Apricity's first little comic! Ruffles is a very loyal slugcat, I'll have you know.

Apricity is an AU set between Rivulet and Saint's campaigns that assumes that Rivulet was sent to investigate conditions around Five Pebbles and Moon, given the mark of communication by-- of all iterators-- Unparalleled Innocence. A pearl from Moon's area carried back to UI reveals that, perhaps, it may be worth a shot sending some instructions.

In the meantime, with no contact between the rest of the local group and FP/Moon, the local group has been busy. Busy with what? Well, with abandoning their slowly deteriorating cans and going to the one with the best chance of long-term survival, but perhaps more is going on than just that...

And Spearmaster makes a return! (Not dying on my watch.)

Take better care of yourself, Artificer, you're ragged! I have a bit of a soft spot for Arti. She just makes me happy. I have a few thoughts on her in AUs, but I think she ages gracefully...and lives for a very long time because WHY NOT. I bet the other slugcats may have met her or saw her from afar, hanging around Five Pebbles, although not all of them got up close.

She also probably attacks anyone who gets too close to Pebbles in Apricity. New child obtained, and it's an iterator.

Seven Red Suns has the most finalized outfit right now, but I think I'm still experimenting on the outfits for the others and SRS' build and how I want to stylize them all!

Still feeling my way around FP, I think. He's a fun character to think about. He's definitely present in Apricity-- but in what form? How to express my thoughts about him? How does he shift from what's reflected in the glass to whatever the 'present day' would be called? How much of anything is just a metaphor?

Been thinking about the little post I made the other night and the lovely little responses to it, especially for Gourmand and Hunter...oh to be a big slugcat and your little partner who you try to help...

Just because I'm a sucker, they're both alive in Apricity, but they don't hang around the iterators as much as some of the other slugcats do. I think they come by regularly to make sure Hunter's condition is maintained and possibly even pushed back further, but I think it'd be really cute for them to be on a little food quest of their own to show Hunter all of the different kinds of food out in the world--and perhaps discover more! Gourmand gets severely disappointed by the fact that the iterator puppets can't eat when trying to offer NSH some food.

I think I'll be working on some full designs for these two later, but enjoy my tired doodles! I like to imagine that Gourmand is also just large in general, not just Big.

Lilypad, I think, is a good pair, although I'm not sure how romantically I see into it. Might just be my odd relationship with romance, but a queerplatonic relationship re: Lilypad seems a good descriptor for the way I'd imagine it.

NSH definitely hangs around Moon a little too much when she arrives at UI's can and ends up being too overbearing for her, too overwhelming. I think they settle into a nicer status quo--they like multitasking and working near each other in a good, comfortable quiet.

Please. Please be reachable somehow as we venture out to find you. It was your rarefaction cell that set off this chain of events; you must be out there, wondering what has become of it. Have the cycles taken you down beyond repair? Was it Ruffles that spelled your end? I hope that your puppet still remains, when our rescue mission finds its way up your can.

Moon wonders if the prize that she seeks--Pebbles and his safety--still exists in truth. It is the work of cycles, short but agonizing in the uncertainty of it, to convince the others to assist her and physically leave Unparalleled Innocence to try and rescue Five Pebbles. Their party eventually consists of her, Suns, the slugcat that Suns calls their Messenger, and an older slugcat that No Significant Harassment seems anxious for upon their departure, rot-scarred and battered but hardy. Ruffles is held back; Moon can't bear to look at their wide, watery eyes watching them go.

She can only pray ineffectively to the uncaring forces of the world that he is alright. He must be alright.

He has to be, or else she isn't sure she'll make it, either.

Between sending out Spearmaster and Rivulet together and their return with Moon, Seven Red Suns takes to brooding. There's so much riding on the slim chance that she's even still alive--the chance that Pebbles could still be out there, for example, unconsumed by his rot--that it drives them spare thinking about it.

It's not a surprise, then, that No Significant Harassment sticks to them like a burr. Despite any annoyances, Sig's presence is...well, it's comforting.

They're both the same kind of worriers at heart, even if the nuances within flow along different currents.

thinking about NSH...HMMM....so gender....

I feel like NSH would definitely like some flowers. Perhaps that's it. I also need to get better at hands. And poses....

But anyhow! NSH is having a decent time in Apricity. Time to smell the flowers, I suppose, but I think NSH is just basking in the fact that so many other iterators are in the same space. Wants to go pick up Pebbles, but currently happy that Moon is there! And alive!

Real Gourmand Hours

Wanted to do some Shapes with some grainy brushes, so I decided to refine an idea for a Gourmand design! Inspired very, very faintly by raccoons, and mostly by the fact that I wanted to render as much fluff as I could.

Gourmand is certainly the fluffiest of the slugcats, and they have the body heat to match. Big, furry paws, nice and robust body--he's a little stretched out here like a show cat, but plumps up when sitting down or crouching. I think I need to develop them a bit more in that sense of showing the Rotundness, but this is a good start!

In Apricity, Gourmand isn't present that often, but I like the idea of the Cherrypie ship, so I think whenever Gourmand shows up, she's right near Hunter. I think they go off together on little food quests to more out there regions, so they sort of cycle in and out together. Gourmand is also very large, so she gets all of the pronouns.

Still at work, but decided to draw all the scugs for fun. Even got to color their lines because I have colored pencils! Did more sketches, but I'm vaguely proud of how this turned out. Tangentially related to Apricity, but it's mostly just canon art! I think I like Hunter (top right) and Saint (bottom right) the most. Listened to Millie, Warm the Kettle on loop as I drew.

Ended up experimenting with some brushes and techniques + a few design thoughts for Five Pebbles! I'm a big fan of messing around with shapes for heads, since there's no reason iterators couldn't've had some funky head shapes.

The last image is all experiments with a grain brush and the lasso tool! The iterator on the left is mostly just to test things, but I find the head and antennae particularly satisfying. It and the two greyscale slugcats (bottom uninfluenced by canon slugcats, top influenced by Rivulet) are all freeform, whereas Moon, Pebbles, and Sig were all made on top of a guiding sketch. I'm particularly pleased with the vibe that Moon's gives!

Perhaps I'll experiment a little more with brushes again. For now, I think I'm settling into Moon's outfit--particularly the luna moth inspired shawl/cape--but it definitely needs to be worked on sometime.

Trying to figure out the vibe I want Five Pebbles to have. Love him to death, so it's fun to experiment both with a few brushes and a few methods of drawing him!

PERHAPS....my next study of him will be on how I can adjust his build and outfit + a few interactions with the rest of the crew...or maybe Artificer???

I think I am MAAAAYBE a little too in love with the strings/wires between his antennae in the rightmost study...oops.

I think I always have the most fun when I mess around and try to use some palettes I'm not comfortable with. Had a lot of fun adding some Moons to an outfit exploration!

She delights in the new, in the curious...I feel as if she tries the most outfits out of all of the iterators, and that she would have a lovely, if pretty calm, sense of style. She likes to pair the cozy with the cute, and ABSOLUTELY gives Ruffles some matching accessories.

It takes her a while, after getting out of her can, for her to develop her style and wardrobe...there are certainly many failed outfits that get recycled for materials.

Moon goes through a bit of a trial and error phase as she tries to make clothing with the help of her fellow iterators. Eventually she settles on a daily wear set and tables the thought--for the moment. She knows there's better fits to come...

(Because I don't have the best sense of style.)
