Many young people, boys and girls, wonder about the stars in our universe and wish to explore space. This was the big dream of a teenage Iranian girl Sepideh Hooshyar. Sepideh was inspired by Einstein and the first female Persian astronaut Anousheh Ansari, which further fueled her passion for science and space exploration. Armed with a telescope, sixteen-year-old Sepideh would make excursions with her friends into the desert near her village to stargaze and learn more about the universe. But her strong desires and her stargazing trips flew in the face of tradition and was of grave concern to her family and community. A Danish filmmaker Berit Madsen, learned of Sepideh's story and struggle and wrote and directed the award-winning documentary "Sepideh - Reaching for the Stars" which premiered at the 2013 International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, and eventually premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah. Now married and a mother, Sepideh continues her work in astronomical science with a supportive husband. She lectures to international audiences to share her passion and her knowledge. Sepideh Hooshyar is our special guest on the next Explore Now program. Watch it live today at 3:00 p.m. Central. Farah Payan of Woodland Hills Camera & Telescope has volunteered to serve as translator. Seventy percent of Earth's surface is water and over 99 percent is uninhabited, so you would expect nearly all impactors to hit either the ocean or desolate regions on Earth's surface. So why do movie meteors have such good aim?"

Join us tonight for the 73rd Global Star Party with the theme “Falling Stars”. Tomorrow morning is the peak of the Leonid Meteor Shower, although not considered to be a favorable event this year due to the moon's interference, all of us who are watchers of the sky have seen remarkable meteor burning up in the sky and have stories to tell. "The nitrogen in our DNA, the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our apple pies were made in the interiors of collapsing stars. We are made of starstuff.”
― Carl Sagan Famed for the world-popular COSMOS series, Dr. Sagan was an astronomer, planetary scientist, cosmologist, astrophysicist, astrobiologist, author, and science communicator. His best known scientific contribution is research on extraterrestrial life, including experimental demonstration of the production of amino acids from basic chemicals by radiation. Sagan assembled the first physical messages sent into space, the Pioneer plaque and the Voyager Golden Record, universal messages that could potentially be understood by any extraterrestrial intelligence that might find them.  From his message of a more compassionate humanity with his dissertation of the Pale Blue Dot, to his work at NASA, The Planetary Society, Carl Sagan inspired and continues to inspire millions of people. November 9th is his birthday, and we are celebrating with the Inspiration of Sagan on the 72nd Global Star Party. 1st Session Introductions 6:00 p.m. 00:00 Scott Roberts - Introduction 6:05 p.m. 00:05 David Levy – Intro and Poetry 6:20 p.m. 00:20 Astronomical League Door Prizes – John Goss 6:30 p.m. 00:30 David Eicher - Earth's Universe of Minerals  6:45 p.m. 00:45 Karim Jaffer - Sagan in the Classroom 7:00 p.m. 01:00 Adrian Bradley - Night Scapes 7:15 p.m. 01:15 Ed Siemenn - The 2022 Northeast Astronomy Forum   7:30 p.m. 01:30 Ten Minute Break    2nd Session    7:40 p.m. 01:40 Jerry Hubbell - Live from MSRO 7:55 p.m. 01:55 Russ Brick - 2022 Winter Star Party Update 8:00 p.m. 02:00 Jason Guenzel - The Vast Reaches  8:10 p.m. 02:10 Maxi Falieres  8:30 p.m. 02:30 John Johnson - Nebraska Star Party Recap 8:45 p.m. 02:45 Libby in the Stars 9:00 p.m. 03:00 Nicolas Ariel Arias  9:15 p.m. 03:00 César Brollo - Live from Buenes Aires    9:30 p.m. 03:30 Ten Minute Break   After Party  9:40 p.m. 03:40 Cameron Gillis, Pekka Hautala, and ? "We're born with a curiosity about the universe. Those people who don't have a curiosity don't have it because it's gotten beaten out of them in some way." --Kip Thorne   Scientific evidence supports that interactivity, collisions, impacts, mergers, and fusion has dominated the evolution of the cosmos. These effects have given rise to the anatomy of the universe, as well as life on our own planet. The theme of the 70th Global Star Party is “Our Interactive Universe” and you are invited to this amazing free event. Explore Scientific is celebrating the event with special door prizes that will be given to the Astronomical League Door Prize segment.
