You're My Sky

I just finished You're My Sky at the recommendation of both @bengiyo and @ginnymoonbeam and can I just say this was PHENOMENAL. Ben was very correct about the before and after I Told Sunset About You mode of storytelling, this came after both ITSAY and IPYTM and you can tell ITSAY was a heavy and direct influence on the method of storytelling, the cinematography, and certain themes that were a part of the show. (@waitmyturtles if you do not have You're My Sky on your OGMMTV list, you should add it because the ITSAY influences seriously ring loud and clear)

Suar Kritsanaphong is a goddamn revelation and I must have said "holy shit this man can act" no less than twenty times an episode, because it remained true, and NEED I REMIND EVERYONE THAT HE HAD BEEN IN EXACTLY ONE OTHER SHOW BEFORE STARRING AS A LEAD IN YOU'RE MY SKY.

Like, seriously, think about his performance in La Pluie, and understand this man is green. La Pluie is the 3rd television show he has been a part of. THAT"S IT. THIRD. Like Ohm Pawat, this man has absolutely no right to be this good this early in his career.

This is, dare I say, one of, if not the most beautifully colored show I have seen maybe ever. Like the entire show felt like it was shot on film, the show read so much like a memory in the way that it was colored, I don't know what I am explaining myself well and I do not know who the colorist was on this show but the one thing I do know is I owe them my life because those colors were saturated and gorgeous (let me be clear, none of these screencaps have been edited, these are just how they appear in the show themselves).

Like, seriously gorgeous

Like absolutely, unbelievably, incredibly, wonderfully GORGEOUS

If you haven't watched this, you should.

Personally, I have no complaints whatsoever with this show. I thought the pacing was good, the narrative compelling, the couples had great chemistry, and the cursed Episode 11 was painful to watch in all the best possible ways.

This show did two things that made me eternally grateful:

One: The show put Suar in this shirt (once again proving that he should always be dressed as a lesbian).

Two: It gave me this shot (aka my new pfp) so what complaints could I even possibly have?

You're My Sky - Episode 6

Not one beat was missed. It had me by the throat for forty-seven minutes. Every moment was critical. Each pair boldly moved the line. This episode had no right to be as good as it was.

Then that bonus!

AND IT HAD THAT COKE MONEY!

I do not appreciate You're My Sky or those damn Red Rascals enough.

This show and especially episode six served.

Fah and Thorn are so deeply in love and so supportive and so willing to work together and talk and be there for each other in all the ways they can be. They truly believe in each other and in themselves as a couple. The way Fah is willing to let Thorn take their coming out at his own speed and the way Thorn is shy but always finds way to show his love in little ways. And the way their entire team is behind them and just wants them to be happy and knows they're in love but not putting any pressure on them either.

Gosh... I'll say it once again: the people who aren't watching You're My Sky are missing out so much. This show is so beautifully written and shot that it deserves the praise that some of the popular BLs get. Episode 6 just proved that.

The TENSION in this episode between all three of the couples though???? I was on the edge of my seat the entire episode, I dont think I actually took a breath until the end of the episode.

I'm sooo happy Fah and Thorn finally kissed!!! I know they are not alot of people's favorite, but they are my absolute favorite in the show! I felt so bad for Thorn in the beginning. All he wanted to do was play basketball with his best friend and made sure everything was perfect for them and brought snacks. I'm honestly so fucking glad they didn't villainize Ing because she was so wonderful. I think that this is when I realized that the writers truly know what they are doing with these storylines. But like can we talk about the significance of the gate finally being open and not separating Fah and Thorn??? I mean throughout the entire show, that gate has been a physical barrier between Fah and Thorn and a symbol for their reluctance to relieve their feelings. But now that gate is open, and Thorn is finally on the other side with Fah, representing them opening up about their feelings for each other. Man this show is so fucking wonderful!!

Every penalty shot is valuable. Only one point can change a game. Except... What, coach? Except when you do a rebound during a penalty shootout. You get not one but two points. Does it mean you have to fail the penalty shot? Yes. The ball must touch the rim but musn't go into the basket. If you're too obvious, the other team will see through it. This trick needs two players who know each other very well. You need to trust the other player to do a rebound in time. The question is, do you two trust each other enough? If you fail to score, I'll get the ball for you. If I fail to score, you get the ball for me. If other teammates fail to score, we'll help.

Question. I have never heard of you’re my sky. And now I have added to my list because of your post. I have found that the Most popular BLs are not normally the Beat BLs according to regular fan base so……. Because I have not heard of this one I am in hopes it’s going to be a good one?? 👀

Anon, please do not trust my recommendations because I have trash taste, but as an American, I tend to like sports-themed stories. Give me a plot about an underdog in the sports world coming up against the big bad rich multiple-time winning team, and I will love the shit out of it! I will eat up media like The Mighty Ducks, Friday Night Lights ("clear eyes, full heart, can't lose"), and One Tree Hill ("I DON'T WANNA BE ANYTHING OTHER THAN WHAT I'VE BEEN TRYNA BE LATELY") because I want to root for the little guy. I didn't watch Creed and Bring It On just for the color coding.

So understand this is a BIG reason I love You're My Sky. At the center of it is a story about a dark horse (or more like a Red Rascal) who not only brings life back into his school's basketball program but also into every single person who gets involved with it. The coach, the players (FLUKE!), and his love interest all get a second shot (pun intended) at fulfilling their dreams.

Oh, and the antagonist? Perfect! People HATED the 11th episode because it had a time jump and flipped the script on our little long shot, but it brought a new layer to our despised coach who had been the enemy for the last ten episodes, AND it made sense why the lead would act the way he did, mostly to people who have played a competitive sport on a level of this nature. It's a different beast, mentally and physically, and changes people.

In addition, people lost. One of the reasons people liked My School President was because of the seriousness of the competition which was the underlying thread throughout the series, but also that the possibility of losing was very real. In You're My Sky, competition is treated the same. The team won't win simply because they want to or the narrative proclaims it. No. The actors look like they can actually play basketball, the strategies make sense, and the fear that loss can and will happen is always present. Not just in basketball, but in track, in soccer, and most importantly, in love.

I haven't even mentioned the love parts! But know that those are good too. We have childhood friends-to-lovers, a younger boy chasing an older one, and pseudo-enemies-to-lovers but one is dating the other's sister. I don't care what anyone says about the leads or the sister's boyfriend plot. They did their jobs and EPISODE SIX SUPREMACY!

The show demonstrates that no man is an island regardless of the endeavor. In order to achieve greatness, we must work with others. People will let us down, but we have to support others in order to receive support, and we need to help the people we love even in their darkest times, especially when they feel unworthy of it.

This series is a top for me, so even though some people disliked it, I hope it makes you "CHEER! CHEER!"

Well... tbh, I was not much invested in You're My Sky in first few episodes but the story developed well and got me hooked. Also, the cinematography is amazing~

The sweetest relation was of AiiSaen. Sean learning to be patient with Aii and giving him time to adjust is so sweet and also encouraging him to pursue his dream, even if they have to bear the long-distance relationship is peak romance!

My heart broke for VeeDome. "Right person, wrong time"... poor him, the guilt was killing him, he couldn't decide between Go or No Go. It might seem like it would have been easier if he had confessed to his sister earlier but that's not easy. Pan is super cool though, thanks to her, they can follow their heart now~

Fah and Thorn... they had quite ups and downs in their relation but that's how life is, it's not bed of roses. I thought the re-entry of Chain would cause some drama between the couple but it was nice to see pure friendship! Coach Tuan is there to show the harsh choices we need to make in life.

I always have special adoration for friendship. The friendship among the Basketball team, Fah-Aii-Dome-Pete, Thorn-Aii, are all sweet~
