💝Throughout February, I’ll be posting 28 unforgettable outfits from film and television that I love. I even made an original logo for this series! My ninth FebruWEARy pick: From the moment I saw Kat Silver’s dinosaur hoodie on Call Me Kat, I have been wanting to buy it for myself. It’s from a company called MOUTHMAN and I’m happy to report that this T-Rex design is not their only shirt in this style. Not every outfit on my list is going to necessarily be fancy! Nonetheless, I absolutely love this look—it’s so fun! I’ve had a life long love for dinosaurs and I think the design concept is so cool and creative. @missmayim plays Kat with such an infectious enthusiasm for life, making outfits feel endearing on her that would otherwise just look childish on other characters. And this hoodie was styled in a way that dresses it up effectively with more traditionally feminine touches: the jean shirt and Kat’s hair being up in a bun.💘 #februweary #fashion #puns #myart #callmekat #katsilver #mayimbialik #dinosaur #trex https://www.instagram.com/p/Co0oKkAvUZm/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

💝Throughout February, I’ll be posting 28 unforgettable outfits from film and television that I love. I even made an original logo for this series! My fifth FebruWEARy pick: Janet from the series The Good Place was a cultural reset. The Janet wardrobe, even in The Bad Place, was beyond heavenly. While the Janets had some variety to their wardrobes, especially depending on location or what reboot was occurring, this is considered the signature Good Janet uniform. And if I owned this, I’d wear it all the time, too. It’s playful yet professional at the same time. The blouse is so beautiful with its watercolor-like aesthetic. There’s a controlled chaos to it and at the same time it’s calming, which is fitting for Janet. I think the pattern really adds to the charm and whimsy that @darcycarden brought to Janet. She took a character that could’ve otherwise felt like a bit part—a human-like Siri/Alexa—and grounded it with a wisdom that had an unexpected, evolving empathy. Choosing purple for the matching vest and skirt feels like an excellent fit since it’s the color associated with wisdom. Plus, it really makes the pattern on the blouse pop. This is another one of those outfits that I would both love to wear as a Halloween costume, but would also just wear in my regular life. 💘 #februweary #fashion #puns #myart #thegoodplace #janet #goodjanet #thegoodplacejanet #darcycarden https://www.instagram.com/p/CohBzi1uU8z/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

💝Throughout February, I’ll be posting 28 unforgettable outfits from film and television that I love. I even made an original logo for this series! My second FebruWEARy pick: Anita’s yellow dress from the “America” musical sequence in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story is absolutely glorious. The way it moves with such purpose makes it more than just an outfit— it’s an extension of Anita herself. This is really just another masterful layer to Ariana DeBose’s performance that rightfully won her an Oscar. She effortlessly controls the dress in order for it to become part of the performance, instead of just something she is wearing. Not to mean, she looks breathtakingly beautiful in it! The complete rearrangement of the tone and staging of this musical number for the 2021 adaptation really enriched the material. Usually, this number is contained to one small space and the choreography is very confrontational and cramped to accommodate it—and while the dance number is still fantastic, it doesn’t serve the story as efficiently as it should. This film takes it off the rooftop and out into the city. By doing so, Spielberg allows it to not only breathe but give it an entirely new life. The choreography really elevates the storytelling as it becomes an outlet for exploration and expression, embodying a spectrum of emotions instead of just a verbal duel. And DeBose never once gets lost or outshined by her surroundings—although, I believe @arianadebose would be equally as magnetic in her performance wearing any color. But it’s important to recognize that costume designer Paul Tazewell was able to create a dress for Anita that expresses her hope for the future, zest for life, and the newfound joy she feels now that she’s in America. It’s bright yellow coloring makes her enthusiasm infectious and the red pedicoat pops with a fiery passion. It’s so much more than just a beautiful dress.💘 #februweary #fashion #puns #myart #anita #arianadebose #westsidestory #westsidestorymovie https://www.instagram.com/p/CogoSoqtRuI/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

💝Throughout February, I’ll be posting 28 unforgettable outfits from film and television that I love. I even made an original logo for this series! My eighth FebruWEARy pick: Pee-wee Herman’s signature suit always brings a smile to my face. On most people, this would feel like just a boring gray suit, but Paul Reubens effectively uses it as a canvas to bring this iconic character to life. It’s almost as if this suit is a character itself. That small pop of red from the bow tie helps bring out that eccentric personality. Legend has it that this is a custom made suit first owned by then Groundlings Theater director Gary Austin. Reubens borrowed it for the original stage show and the rest was history. Coincidentally, I think this suit is a brilliant choice for the character— and it almost feels as if it was purposely designed just for him. Isn’t it hard to image Pee-wee’s costume looking like anything other than his Malibu Imperial suit? Since it’s from the 1960s, it already had a classic, vintage feel by the time he started wearing it. In addition, 1980s fashion was all about thinking big. It was on trend to go over the top with oversized silhouettes, accessories, and shoulder pads. The decade also embraced bight colors and bold combinations. @peeweeherman ‘s look definitely stood out with its slim, cropped cut and the black and white palette of its glen plaid. Dressing him out of trend was genius. And against the whimsical colors of the world of the Playhouse, I think his suit is a great contrast to it in color. This suit, like Pee-wee himself, is a timeless classic.💘 #februweary #fashion #puns #myart #peewee #peeweeherman #peeweesplayhouse #peeweesbigadventure #paulreubens https://www.instagram.com/p/Co0iPNcPPXw/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

💝Throughout February, I’ll be posting 28 unforgettable outfits from film and television that I love. I even made an original logo for this series! My seventh FebruWEARy pick: Edith Head’s brilliant and beautiful costumes for Kim Novak in Vertigo really elevated the story, with each outfit having a clear narrative objective that it effortlessly embodied. While the gray skirt suit is iconic and important to the plot, it’s this green ensemble that she wears as Judy Barton is first introduced that has always stayed with me. And ironically, this look is supposed to be unattractive—a downgrade. It serves as a dramatic shift in tone that the entire film hinges on. Without any context, this look is really charming, I think— I’d absolutely wear this! However, in the film, it abruptly divides Novak’s duel roles of Judy Barton and Madeleine Elster (it is no secret that Novak plays both). She doesn’t get enough credit for how impressively she pulls off something most actors would find impossible to so subtly convey. Alfred Hitchcock always has a very particular vision for every aspect of his films, especially when it comes to his precious “blondes,” as he feels the audience finds them more trustworthy and therefore more devastated if they are deceitful and or the victim. Novak gets the distinction of living on both ends of the spectrum as a blonde and a brunette in Vertigo. Judy’s first outfit is sadly domestic and frumpy compared to Madeleine’s chic and sleek looks. Judy’s polka dots, monochromatic green tones, and commercial garments are so mundane compared to Madeleine’s sophisticated, classic silhouettes in black, white, and gray that are modest yet sexy. Plus, Hitchcock famously associated green with… maybe I should stop my analysis before some of my insights about this look accidentally give something away for those who have yet to see it. Is there such thing as “spoiling” a movie that was made in 1958? It’s a masterpiece and I wouldn’t want to give anything too big away incase you want to see it. 💘 #februweary #fashion #puns #myart #vertigo #classicfilm #kimnovak #judybarton #hitchcock #alfredhitchcock #edithhead https://www.instagram.com/p/CorI6x0u5Zd/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

💝Throughout February, I’ll be posting 28 unforgettable outfits from film and television that I love. I even made an original logo for this series! My sixth FebruWEARy pick: I am just as obsessed with Disgust from Pixar’s Inside Out now as I was when the film was released in 2015. @mindykaling ‘s voice performance effectively makes her someone of authority rather than just a stereotypical “mean girl.” I’m naturally optimistic, so I obviously gravitate towards Joy, but I cannot deny how much I adore Disgust. While she’s definitely a supporting character, she does have a little arc where she has emotional growth from having to navigate Riley without Joy and Sadness. Just like her other Emotion counterparts, I think she’s a very thoughtfully developed character. From a design standpoint, her aesthetic is as equally fashionable as fascinating. On the surface, her outfit is absolutely adorable. Her belted dress over leggings, paired with a silk scarf and flats has a vintage feel to it; yet it doesn’t feel outdated. The flip of her hair and large eyelashes bring the glamour. Although her essence was inspired by broccoli and its reputation with children, she’s also reminiscent of kale, which is very trendy with adults—that sums up her duality very well. If she where to be drawn in just ink and making a blank expression, you might not guess that is dainty, Audrey Hepburn looking, fashionista embodied such a harsh, somewhat negative emotion—and I think that’s genius. For example, with her color palette, the design on her dress invokes the image of splats of food; yet, if her dress were a composed of more traditionally feminine colors, it may have looked like a field of flowers. I appreciate that she determines what Riley does and doesn’t like rather than she herself being visibly “disgusting.” Also, the accents of purple in her lipstick, scarf and shoes show our fears have a direct connection to our disgust—perhaps if you learned not to be irrationally fearful of something (or someone) than you’d no longer be disgusted by it.💘 #februweary #fashion #puns #myart #pixar #disneypixar #insideout #disgust #disgustinsideout #mindykaling https://www.instagram.com/p/CoqKqaBva6q/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

💝Throughout February, I’ll be posting 28 unforgettable outfits from film and television that I love. I even made an original logo for this series! My fourth FebruWEARy pick: Words cannot describe the hold that the Queen Amidala throne gown had over me in my youth. I had just never seen anything like this in my entire life. I loved the drama of it and how she looked both delicate and strong at the same time. Its volume could’ve easily swallowed her up yet she commanded it. And while its regal, there’s almost this alien or monster-like quality to it that makes it even more interesting. I remember coming home from seeing the film in the theaters and immediately trying to draw it from memory with crayons. Now you have to understand that this was not a point in time where I could just look the dress up on the internet to see what it looked like. I drew this thing over and over and over from memory (and kinda poorly at first, I might add). Then I got the official Barbie Doll and she became my model—I still have her; although some of her accessories have sadly been misplaced throughout multiple moves across the country. Now as an adult, I have the stunningly beautiful Funko Pop. It shouldn’t be too surprising that I was so taken with something from the film, considering how obsessed I already was with Star Wars that early on in life. I never could have imagined how expanded the Star Wars universe would become when I was an adult. Sadly, I don’t think there’s been any more outfits from the Star Wars universe that have had me quite as enamored since I’ve seen this one all those years ago. So… may the FOURTH outfit be with you!💘 #februweary #fashion #puns #myart #natalieportman #padme #padmeamidala #queenamidala #starwars #maythefourthbewithyou #maytheforcebewithyou https://www.instagram.com/p/Cog1M3Gui9N/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

💝Throughout February, I’ll be posting 28 unforgettable outfits from film and television that I love. I even made an original logo for this series! My third FebruWEARy pick: Leslie Knope’s wedding dress makes me emotional. Parks and Recreation was truly a once in a lifetime show, always laughing with instead of at. It’s the only satire I’ve ever seen that is deeply grounded in hope and sentimentality. And in many ways, this dress is an excellent showcase for how emotionally driven the comedy series was. Handmade by her best friend Ann, the skirt of Leslie’s wedding dress was made of “meaningful bills, pictures, documents and mementos.” Leslie is known from being extremely thoughtful in her friendships and never asks for anything in return. And while she loves to exchange gifts, your friendship IS the gift to her in Leslie’s eyes. So it was beautiful to see something like this be done for her. The dress itself is very chic but the story behind makes it beautiful, in my opinion. I love it AND I like it. 💘 #februweary #fashion #puns #myart #leslieknope #parksandrecreation #parksandrec #amypoehler #iloveyouandilikeyou https://www.instagram.com/p/CogxZZMOZjK/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

💝Throughout February, I’ll be posting 28 unforgettable outfits from film and television that I love. I even made an original logo for this series! My first FebruWEARy pick: I’ve been slightly obsessed with Dani Dennison and her signature look from Hocus Pocus since I first saw the film as a child. I just love everything about her. She’s a true original and so fearless. This outfit really embodies her spirit, as it is an unconventional take on a traditional witch costume. There’s real beauty to it whereas witches are not necessarily associated with such things, especially back in the 1990s. I really like how it pairs classic Autumn colors with black and the witch aesthetic. And even the hat is elevated with that pop of orange around the brim and the black netting with colored puffballs that hang in the back. In the sequel, many feel that Mother Witch’s outfit is designed to look like Dani’s. So perhaps Dani was dressed as her for Halloween in the original movie or (and I find this most likely) the filmmakers just wanted to have a nod to Dani in the sequel. Personally, dressing as Dani for Halloween is on my bucket list. I hope to do it soon! More than a costume, I’d also just wear this in every day life in Autumn; although, I may only bring out the hat for Halloween.💘 #februweary #fashion #puns #myart #danidennison #thorabirch #hocuspocus #disney #1990s #90smovies #mychildhood https://www.instagram.com/p/CogPz5NNJ-W/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
