TRANSLATION
The flower of my dreams is gone, blooms yellow and grows thorns
Beyond scarred wishes can I protect you at the furthest ends?
Search, search Losing
Notice my colorless self strangled
Sensitive to the color red, it looks beautiful
Unclear righteousness pierced
Self-inflicted pain melds with fate
Call me distortion
Please forgive me This knife is beautiful
This is your future, but, it will hurt
The dreams I see with only one eye are all things I don't want
Let's both watch I think I can reach it
The flower of my dreams is gone, becomes a red shining star

GWitch ep 19 thoughts
Every episode is a kick in the teeth with candy boots. A sweet misery you've known like no other. This episode was no different and I relished today's destruction as Mio and Prospera take center stage
Tumblr media
That's a loaded statement if I've ever seen one. Really enjoyed this brief intro segment. We get Guel's thoughts on Kenanji; uninspired and suspicious, which are a vast change from his once admiration of the man. Guel also seems surprisingly chill about returning to Earth, but cryptically comments he wants to check the situation there and aid in negotiations. I like how Mio and him have fallen into this friendly rapport after everything. We'd like to see him apologize formally ofc, but it's not necessary for Mio. She's focused on greater concerns than the petty school days of Asticassia
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Suletta is a wreck. She's completely fallen apart after her mother and sister dumped her in space like hot garbo. She can't even plaster on a smile and lie to herself any longer. Earth House just thinks she's upset about the break up, so she isn't confiding in anyone at all. Suletta.exe has stopped working :(
Tumblr media
Hilariously, Counselor Secilia has decided to make Martin her servant after listening to his confessional. It's great they make a distinct parallel to Miorine here, with Martin explaining he thought the best way to protect Earth House was to give up Nika. The show is filled with instances of people taking away another person's agency in the misguided belief they're doing 'what's best'. So good!
Tumblr media
Real Elan finally gets more dialogue and he makes an excellent point, for once. The quickest and dirtiest way into Benerit's graces would be to forcefully suppress the earthian protests. A gundam, let alone one like Aerial, is a powerful statement of supremacy after all. Shaddiq is convinced Miorine would never allow it, and he's partly right. She wouldn't if she was the one truly calling the shots.
Tumblr media
Feng is so cool for a spook. She successfully preys upon Belmeria's cowardice and gains her begrudging compliance. Really enjoyed the dynamic here at this little tea party. It was almost like a date 😳 Love me two older women with some tension. Is this the newest gwitch ship to take flight?
Tumblr media
I love how Mio recognized these are peaceful protesters immediately. It's another instance of her demonstrating empathy on a greater level than she once did. Her initial ignorant comments about Earthians in cour 1 seem a distant memory, and much of it has to do with her exposure to Earth House. If not for them and Suletta, her pov would be just as narrow as every other spacian's.
Tumblr media
And it's off to a terrible start lmao. I think Mio expected an uphill battle but those are some steep demands. A worldwide ban on spacians is unfeasible but absolutely warranted considering everything the spacians have done. Mio doesn't quite know how to counter, and it's so funny Guel left her here without help after previously saying he doesn't trust her diplomacy skills. I doubt he'd be much help tbh, but I guess he trusts her more than he said? Which is, uh, somewhat appreciated? It's the thought that counts.
Tumblr media
Sad widow moment. Norea grieving Sophie's death and expressing her fear of death explicitly has been a long time coming. 5lan bearing witness as the floodgates open and she reveals they share this core dread? God this hit so good. You can't help but feel for these kids. Nika continues to watch on in bafflement as the drama unfolds. When is she gonna leave this level of purgatory?? Only Okouchi knows...
Tumblr media
OMG, I AM SLAIN. Defeated. This sad husk of a girlboss misses her (ex) wife so much. Normal people would just have a wallet photo or a locket, but she's reduced to watching this goofy ass promo wistfully. I would find it hilarious if it wasn't so sad. It does give her the strength to continue negotiations so that's neat
Tumblr media Tumblr media
More importantly, it reminds her of GUND's ideals and the people who've banded together because of that dream; Earth House. She cleverly points out that fulfilling their demands would also mean removing earthians from space, but she won't because they're her partners at GUND-ARM. Her showing them the medical achievements they've already made together was smart and tips the scales in her favor
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I keep saying I love Mio but I really do. She's inspired to grasp the presidency for her own goals, rather than just as a tool for Prospera. She found a path of peace in spite of everything against her. It's bittersweet to know, in a kinder world, this would be the end of her struggles. But Prospera won't be satisfied with peace.
Tumblr media
This shot was gold. Suletta raiding the fridge like an unwashed raccoon is perfect on so many levels. We finally get unbound Suletta too. Ugh she looks so good 😭
Tumblr media
LOOK AT HER!! Babygirl. She looks like such a sad scruffy mutt here. I love it 🥹 Adored Earth House supporting her in her hour of need and giving her a boost with goat milk too. Really cements the rebirth imagery they had in the last episode.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Martin decides to slink home too and reveals everything going on with Nika. This bit from Lilique says it all. There are times when you are left with only so many options. While you may not choose the objectively best path, you can only pick what YOU feel is best. Miorine, Martin, Aerial. Even Delling and Prospera (Perhaps DoF and Shaddiq as well) It fits all the way across the cast.
Tumblr media
I didn't expect to get the Shaddiq real name drop from this shakedown, but I'll take it. Kenanji may be a cop with blood on his hands, but he's a keen one. We learned that 'Prince' is a longstanding nickname and it implicates Shaddiq wholly in the terrorist attacks. 'Whoopsie, all my nefarious plans undone by one kid's rambling!'
(I also think the implication was Shaddiq or Jeru Ogul rather, is the 'heir apparent' to Ochs Earth virtue of his dead family. Not entirely certain tbh)
Looks like Guel will be Asticassia bound next episode along with Kenanji. No idea why Kenanji had to tag along but I guess Mio has enough of an escort. Let's hope this detour leads to Suletta using the Schwarzette! Fingers crossed
Tumblr media
You saw it here, everybody. Prospera shot first! I'll admit I didn't fully expect her to go this route but it makes sense. I anticipated her gaining Mio support somehow, but she just cut the BS and said let's do this dirty. Controlling Earthian artillery to mask her intentions and provide an excuse is devious and brilliant
Tumblr media
Destroying DoF's secret stache of gundams even more so. She really cut Shaddiq's plan for a cold war at the knees and Guel/Kenanji are on track to expose his duplicity entirely. He'll be lucky to not be jailed let alone president of anything. It's amazing that everything works out for Prospera no matter how many risks she takes or gambles made. Lady Luck must love her nonsense as much as the audience
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cut back to Bel and Feng, their date did not end as well as I hoped. While Bel spilled some details about Quiet Zero, Prospera's second hunts her down and interrupts this powow. Can't risk QZ leaking to the corpo spooks after all. We did learn that SAL is not as unified or well intentioned as we might have thought. Their high council was revealed to be backing Ochs Earth of all corps. Feng seemed to be an outlier in yet another shady corpo-controlled faction. I'll miss her, but maybe she somehow escaped this dire situation? I won't hold my breath. RIP Feng, you were a real one!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Elan Prime seems so smug to be right, even if it means their horse in this race has some real competition. He really is a little shit just like 5lan. That MS shot though. Damn evocative. War journalists eat your heart out. It's visual reference too, I believe?
Tumblr media
This is the funniest thing he could've said. Shaddiq is malding just like a pathetic incel. Remember when everyone thought he pulled mad game because he's surrounded by women? But the sad reality is he's the most maidenless person in the solar system. The best outcome tbh.
Beyond the laughs, this line speaks so much about how he views Miorine. He views her little better than a prize only he's deserving of; a 'pure' princess to match his crusading prince. He repeatedly disregards her agency, seen in episode 9 when he acts like Suletta controls Mio and here when he blames Guel for what's happening on Earth. He's such a salty little worm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, we're left with Suletta and Earth House as they react to the chaos. Suletta recognizes instantly Miorine's innocence and her mother's culpability. This was why Aerial sent her away. This was what everyone is trying to shield her from. It was a moment of clarity I hadn't expected, but a very welcome one. Hopefully, this means she'll be spurred into action now that Mio is in very real danger. Schwarzette time? We can dream~
That next episode is incredibly ominous though. End of Hope? Considering they have that promo where GUND-ARM/earth house are the ray of hope... yikes. Let's hope I'm just reading into things and it's not that grim
Edit* additional musings:
A segment was deleted somehow so here it is
Tumblr media
Miorine... You know, I've seen people having a bit of schadenfreude at her expense. 'she's so stupid, ofc this happened!' - that flavor of criticism. My counter to this is what could she have realistically done? She was strong-armed into this agreement and manipulated onto Earth. She dared to imagine a peaceful solution based on ideals she slowly grew to believe wholeheartedly. This isn't her fault, much as she thinks otherwise. I can see her willfully remaining on earth to try and correct this atrocity. Girl needs a big hug from her wife ;-;

Ok, wow, that episode was soooooooooo fucked up™ and I have so many thoughts™.
First off, absolutely heartbreaking to see Suletta throw herself into The List and taking care of the Greenhouse to cope with the fact that she just lost everything and she blames herself for it all (which hits really fucking close). She thinks she deserves it and I just wanna reach through the screen and tell her it's not her fault at all.
Lauda is still emotionally constipated and can't express gratitude without insulting someone in the process.
Shaddiq really out here proving why the emblem for Grassley Defense Systems is a snake, the bastard. Really hope he dies at Guel's hand, the Akihiro vs. Iok vibes are strong here.
Schwarzette was a Jeturk machine to no one's surprise, origin is cool though, Vim making it behind the scenes (likely ever since cutting a deal with Prospera all the way back in episode 2). I get the feeling Suletta's going to be the one fielding it first.
So two things that really stuck out to me during the Backroom Trio scene, 1). the fact that Peil has an AI decide who's who gives me such Destiny Plan vibes and makes the four CEOs that much creepier, and 2). El5n and Norea need to just bang already.
On Mio's plan to use Aerial as a symbol of de-escalation, I think Luke Skywalker said it best: "This is not going to go the way you think"
And of course, the big reveal: Suletta, and the eleven other consciousnesses inhabiting the GUND bits, are all clones of Eri - the bits to expand her consciousness and autonomy, and Suletta herself to act as an interface to the physical plane. It was legitimately heartbreaking to see that Suletta was effectively "born" the day Eri "died", which horrifyingly reveals that Elnora didn't suddenly just snap the moment Eri's body gave out - she saw it coming and prepared ahead of time. Jesus fucking Christ.
I have thoughts about Eri rejecting Suletta. She's clearly coming from the same "cruel to be kind/break her heart to save her" place as Miorine - she never wanted Suletta to be an accessory to Prospera's revenge from the get-go - but y'all keep throwing her out without a lifeline, and banking on someone else picking up the pieces. I am curious though, to see exactly how much Eri cares about revenge; we know she's in on it - again, she just doesn't want Suletta involved - but from her PoV back in Cradle Planet, she made it seem like she had no choice but to go along with it, so that may provide an interesting turning point, we'll have to see.
There has to be a reason Secilia is on the other side of the confession booth therapy room, hopefully for more than just comedy.
That came out a little more rambly than I anticipated, but man, this episode was a wild ride.

I hope you don’t mind me responding to this with a post so I’m not restricted by the limited reply character count!
But, yes! I really, really loved that scene. My understanding was that the intention of the silence was mostly just to add a feeling of suspense for the audience, seeing that we experience the show with Suletta as our protagonist. While we do have a more omniscient understanding of the characters than we would if we were entirely restricted to a Suletta POV only, especially with the show’s use of dramatic irony to build conflict, the show is written for us to root for Suletta. So, during that silence, we have that extra sense of dread because we can clearly see Miorine shouting, but can’t hear anything until the moment Suletta wakes up.
I agree that it is a very well-integrated callback.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So much is the same from the blue light
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To the headbutt (which is not really easy to get a screen grab of from episode 1 because that one was mostly a folly effect that conveyed it).
While it’s true that these two scenes were intentionally very similar, I feel like a lot of their relationship is in general centered around them saving each other in both a figurative and a literal sense.
Besides these two scenes, there’s also the one where Miorine drags Suletta out of the way from that first duel she witnesses. Then Suletta stops Guel and his lackeys from trashing Miorine’s greenhouse (which is very personal to her). Then we have Miorine trying to step in and fight Suletta’s duel against Guel for her and struggling, so Suletta steps in and takes her place. There’s also the instance where Miorine saves Suletta in court from her father and throws away her chance to escape to Earth. Suletta also continues dueling over and over to ensure that Miorine isn’t married off to some jerk. Not to mention that Miorine starts a whole-ass company to save Suletta from going back to court. Then you have Suletta having the spiral where she feels useless and Miorine confronting her and reassigning the work she originally thought was burdensome on Suletta so that she knows that she is wanted and needed. Suletta also literally KILLS someone to save Miorine at Plant, and Miorine responds in horror when she realizes how deep Prospera’s influence runs and she decides to sacrifice her own happiness for the sake of Suletta not being tainted by the whole “sins of the father” premise that we see through the show.
We see another small reference to all of these instances after they’ve been separated for that time after their “breakup” where we see Mio spiral into a depression for platforming someone to start a war, and is pulled back into reality by Suletta (which I could write another analysis on in itself). Shaddiq even asks Miorine if her change in character is “because of that Mercurian Girl,” which shows that their strengthening relationship is palpable to other characters. So, to me, to see that this whole cycle of building trust and feelings for one another through saving the other person start and end in the same way was confirmation for just how important it is that their relationship is mutual in what they provide for each other, which is generally one of the primary factors of a successful and loving relationship. The sequence being the same is just a beautiful cherry-on-top for this whole “I want you to rely on me” / “Now I want to ask her the same” cycle.

if you feel you have reached this message in error
~~~~~~~
This is just a short little nothing WIP for the immediate aftermath of episode 20 of G-Witch. I had some feels I had to get out, spoilers below. Based on how "late" it was by the time Earth House found Suletta digging through the rubble, I'm willing to bet that she wasn't answering her comms/couldn't and so there were likely a lot of folks thinking she may be one of those trapped or killed.
Thanks to @red-the-royal for entertaining my brain worms on this one!
Anyway, Miorine's POV for discovering the school's been attacked again but WORSE.
~~~~~~~~
Of all the sights of carnage and horror that have seared themselves into her mind over the past 12 hours, the endlessly scrolling list of the dead from the second attack on Asticassia was the thing that threatened to send Miorine into a full blown breakdown.
Some of the names she recognized from her own classes; most she did not.
The news feed that was playing on the left of the screen was showing images of collapsed buildings and mobile suits accompanied by rescue personnel sifting through the rubble for survivors and the dead in the heart of campus.
Her hands shook as her fingers clumsily tapped through her contacts, trying desperately to reach out to Suletta. Miorine hadn't seen her name on the constantly updating list, but that meant nothing with so many still unaccounted for.
She found Suletta's entry where she'd hidden it at the bottom of her contacts and hit Call.
Distantly, she was surprised it didn't fail to dial as it should have if she was a blocked contact. Even so, the call rang several times before it cut.
Connection failure.
She tried a few more times. Nothing. Perhaps someone from Earth House could be reached.
So she called Lilique.
Then Martin.
Till.
Ojelo.
Suletta.
Nuno.
Suletta.
Aliya.
Suletta.
Chuchu.
Suletta, Suletta, Suletta.
Sixteen instances of call connection failure ping red on her screen. Desperate, she sends a message through the Gund-Arm Inc company employee emailing list for the first time since Suletta's last duel, praying one of them would respond, confirm everyone is okay even if they didn't all receive it.
All possible direct options exhausted, she finally turns to contacting Guel.
M: What in the world is happening up there Guel? Who attacked the school? I cannot get in touch with anyone in Earth House. Are they okay?
Is Suletta? Please tell me she's okay.
Miorine's typing stopped dead the moment she spotted a clip of Earth House came on the screen, showing nothing but a blown out ruin. She felt her heart rate pick up, panic setting in. Was EVERYONE dead?
G: I don't know where to start. "It's bad" doesn't begin to cover it. We've got Shaddiq, but the other one of those witches from the Rumble had been holed up somewhere and she just started shooting everything and everyone.
G: Panlunch is helping with clearing rubble according to Felsi. Earth House was okay last she saw the rest of them and were evacuated safely.
Guel Jeturk is typing…
None of them have seen Suletta since before she went to class today. They're looking for her too.
G: I've tried contacting her a few times myself and got nothing, but you'll be the first to know once I find her, I promise. I have to go, some members of my house are in rough shape, and I need to get back with Lauda to bring them home.
Miorine choked back the urge to vomit as everything sank in at once. It was hard to not know her ex-groom's class schedule by heart. Or shove down the knowledge that the lion's share of the devastation cut huge swaths through the academic buildings. No, no, no. Suletta would have been in the center of it all and was likely buried beneath tons upon tons of debris.
Every last gamble she had taken had failed to keep the girl she loved safe, and now she wasn't even certain that Suletta was still alive. Miorine dropped her head into her hands and despaired.

Some Thoughts on Episode 14 (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury)
(spoilers & long)
*”Game-changer” is a term that I feel is sometimes overused, but with the amount of revelations and developments in this one episode, I think it’s justified.
Tumblr media
*The first major reveal occurs right away when Prospera explains to Miorine that her mother, Notrette, was the one who started the Quiet Zero project, and that the purpose of the project is to use the data storms that a Gundam (in particular, Aerial) can generate to create an information network that can hijack any Permet-based system, which in the setting of Ad Stella would include *a lot* of important things, such as telecommunications (which, given the vast distance of space, is even more important than it is in real life), and, as we’ll later see, other Gundams. Put simply, Aerial can hack the planet solar system.
*Miorine is rightfully concerned that her father’s been trying to play god. Prospera agrees, but explains that it's for the sake of a world without war. She further explains that she sent Suletta to school both to make her happy (which Miorine expresses skepticism about, because regardless of recent circumstances, she's still loyal to Suletta), and to optimize Aerial under non-lethal conditions; everything was going fine until the Plant Quetta attack and Delling getting incapacitated, but Prospera seems certain that Miorine will agree to take her father's place in the project.
*Prospera notably refers to Suletta as 'the child' at one point, which is yet another hint that she doesn't love Suletta as much as she claims.
*When mentioning Plant Quetta, Prospera is holding her non-prosthetic hand with her prosthetic one, and both tremble. It's a very subtle movement, and given how far away she was from Miorine at the time, I'm inclined to think it was not done to deceive the latter, but because Prospera was genuinely shaken by the events at Plant Quetta. That may seem hard to countenance given how efficiently Prospera killed the terrorists and urged Suletta into battle, but Witch from Mercury seems to be interested in genuine portrayals of trauma, and I don't think it's unreasonable to infer that Plant Quetta reminded Prospera all too well of the Vanadis incident. It’s a small, but humanizing, detail, and an interesting choice considering the awful things Prospera will confess to later.
Tumblr media
This post has a wonderful compilation of how lighting is used to frame Prospera: from Suletta’s POV, she’s only been shown to be bathed in light, while to everyone else she is standing in shadow. This gets played with in this opening scene, as Prospera advances into the light, but with a notably shadowed face, while leaving Miorine half in light, half in darkness. This seems to deliberately contrast with that scene where Prospera coaxed Suletta into killing; while Suletta stepped forward with a smile, Miorine stays still, neither advancing nor running, with a suspicious expression.
*Given the events of this episode, I wonder if the opening credits will have some changes next time.
*After the opening, we proceed with some Spacian adults checking out Gund-Arm Inc.’s event booth, but then turning up their noses at the delicious goat’s milk offered to them (ingrates).
*Earth House in general is worried about Nika, both because of her injuries and what she’s hiding from them, with Chuatury in particular not even saying anything when Till tries to comfort her. Nika shares some of her backstory with Suletta: she is an Earthian orphan like Sophie and Norea, and was delighted to get a chance to go to school, and had bonded with Suletta over seeing her as a kindred spirit. Unfortunately, Nika does not disclose her affiliation with Dawn of Fold, and leaves to fix her problems by herself.
*I really wish Suletta would just punch No. 5 in the face, maybe *that* would make it clear that his advances are creepy and unwanted. Sophie answers my prayers by bonking him in the head with a Haro and leading Suletta away.
*I also wish No. 5 would just stick to talking to Norea, he’s a much more interesting and tolerable character when he does that. Norea chides him on how his life as a Gundam pilot will be a short one, and he makes a curious remark on how her eyes remind him of someone he used to know, and who died alone.
Tumblr media
*It’s unclear if No. 5 means the eye color or the expression, and you generally shouldn’t put much stock in characters with similar eye colors being related, but the fact that this was specifically mentioned leads me to wonder if there’s some connection between the Enhanced People and Norea, possibly familial, or, if Peil can change eye color and it just refers to expression, perhaps the Elans were originally Dawn of Fold Gundam pilots, along with Sophie and Norea, who signed up with Peil in hopes of obviating the Gundam curse.
*”Mr. Elan isn’t gross…” Yes he is Suletta, Sophie may be a terrorist and a murderess, but she’s 110% correct on calling him that.
*Sophie announces that her stake in the duel will be that Suletta becomes her big sister for real, and even promises not to kill Nika if Suletta agrees. In different circumstances, I think it’s likely Suletta would have forfeited then and there, but she promised her bride she wouldn’t lose any duels; Sophie decides that means she needs to kill Miorine to see Suletta as she was during their last battle, and then runs off to prepare for the Rumble Ring, the battle royale event mentioned last episode.
*Secelia acts as announcer, and goes over the rules; they’e basically the same as a normal duel, except it’s a free-for-all and maybe Suletta’s not at risk for losing Holder status (it’s unclear, but it also doesn’t seem too relevant, so for now I wouldn’t worry about it). Lauda, Felsi, Sabina, Renee, Chuatury, No. 5, and Suletta, along with some unnamed students, are all participating. Due to Delling’s absence, Sarius is acting as witness in his stead.
*Most of the named characters are using the mobile suits we’ve either previously seen them fight with or know them to be associated with (i.e. Jeturk House using Dilanzas), with the exception of the Grassley duo, who instead deploy two of the CFP-010 Heindree, which continue the “knight” theme Grassley mobile suits seem to exhibit.
Tumblr media
*Belmeria approaches Prospera to talk about something.
*As the Rumble Ring is underway, Chuatury attempts to shoot Sabina’s mobile suit, but her aim is thrown off when she suffers a flashback to Plant Quetta; I appreciate the show’s attempts at realistic portrayals of trauma, but I feel so bad for those going through it.
Tumblr media
*Lauda attempts to engage Suletta and get revenge, but is interrupted when Sophie’s Lfrith Ur (the green one) breaks into the arena and smashes Lauda’s Dilanza’s face in. Norea shows up in Lfrith Thorn (the brown one), and everyone is momentarily shocked to see them. Notably, No. 5 also remarks on them being the terrorists from Plant Quetta despite very clearly not having been there, but perhaps the Peil CEOs informed him of the situation despite the media blackout (or it’s a minor continuity error, tomayto tomahto); then again, it wouldn’t be the first time the show’s shown something that seemed off, only to explain it later. [another poster pointed out that he was debriefed at the end of episode 12, so nvm]
*Meanwhile, Nika is trying to contact the front management company to confess everything, but is interrupted by Shaddiq’s lieutenant, Henao, and is presumably kidnapped after (this awaits confirmation in a later episode).
*Sophie unleashes a barrage that damages the outer walls, and it’s important to note that the lasers and sabers she and Norea are using are blue in color.
Tumblr media
*Up until now, most beam or laser attacks we’ve seen have been green, and this was to indicate they were in low-energy, ‘safety’ mode; Norea and Sophie of course have no interest in school restrictions, and are more than happy to give most of the students their first experience with actually lethal combat.
*Secelia recovers from her shock as Rouji informs her that the front management company is not responding, and urges everyone to evacuate; her warning is unfortunately too late for one of the unnamed student pilots, who is killed by Norea on live broadcast.
*Sophie and Norea then raise their Permet scores to 3, and activate six EDM-GB Gundvölvas, which are apparently a type of unmanned Gundam mobile suit that can be used much as how Suletta uses Gund-bits, and all of them start attacking.
Tumblr media
*As they fight, and their battle takes them into space, Suletta asks Sophie about her motives, to which Sophie responds that she’s willing to kill for the creature comforts and necessities that most of Asticassia’s students take for granted. Suletta attempts to rebuke her but…
Tumblr media
…well, what *can* she say to that?
*Chuchu’s Demi-Trainer gets its arm blown off, and it looks like she’s about to go into an actual killing rage, and I worry for a moment that she’s either going to get herself killed or kill somebody she didn’t intend to; thankfully, *Felsi* of all people calls her back to her senses when she asks for help because Lauda is critically injured, and Chuatury goes to protect them from the Gundvölvas. We saw Chuatury denounce Dawn of Fold as terrorists last episode, and this action firmly draws a line between herself and someone like Norea; while both have violent tendencies and are vocally anti-Spacian, only Norea is willing to resort to acts of mass murder, whereas, when it really counts, Chuatury is willing to defend people she ostensibly hates. I also can’t help but wonder if Chuatury’s action here might open the door to the Jeturks in general, despite their antagonistic history, making a heel-face turn somewhere down the line; it remains to be seen of course, but it certainly doesn’t hurt.
*In another contrast, Norea and No. 5 clash; Norea tells him to either fight like a Gundam pilot (i.e. raise his Permet score) and risk death, or abandon his Gundam if he fears death, both of which he declines.
*Sarius, unable to escape and awaiting rescue, is instead kidnapped by his son’s lieutenants, Maisie and Ireesha, which is witnessed from a distance by No. 5.
*Sophie and Suletta continue to fight, with Sophie pressing Suletta about Aerial’s purpose; if she’s not intended as a weapon for killing, then why is she so heavily armed? This prompts Suletta to vocally wonder why her mother designed Aerial that way; this might seem a bit naive of Suletta, even taking mental conditioning into account, but bear in mind she did grow up as a rescue pilot who used those beams and lasers as tools to remove obstructions to help people, so despite the obvious use she’s been making of them against her opponents, Suletta does have reason to not see them first and foremost as weapons.
*Sophie reiterates her threat to kill Miorine and destroy Asticassia, causing Aerial to go to Permet score 6 (whether by Suletta’s desire or her own will is, likely intentionally, unclear). Ariel generates an energy sphere similar to the one she used in the Grassley House duel, and takes control of the Gundvölvas, as well as affecting Lfrith Ur, though not controlling it outright; regardless, all of these Gundams’ (and even Sophie’s) Permet lines turn purple instead of their usual red, while Aerial’s remain blue. Despite the danger, even coughing up blood, Sophie insists on approaching Aerial as she seems to finally ‘feel’ to Sophie how she did when they last fought.
*The scene is interwoven with a conversation between Belmeria and Prospera, with Belmeria asking how Suletta is unaffected by data storms, and where, exactly, Prospera’s older daughter, Ericht, currently is.
Tumblr media
*There’s been a popular fan theory that Ericht Samaya was somehow transformed into the Gundam Aerial, and Sophie’s dying vision and Prospera’s words confirm it to be true. Of course, as has previously been the case in this show, there are plenty of questions left unanswered, such as how exactly this happened, and why, and, of course, if Suletta is not Ericht, then who is she? Like yes, of course she’s Miorine’s groom, and that probably will be the ultimate answer to that question, but while that’s the destination, it doesn’t explain Suletta’s origin.
*Belmeria is *horrified*, but Prospera calmly tells her that Ericht has gained a new body, that this “is the future of GUND that [they’ve] been searching for”, and then smoothly transitions over to attempting to recruit Belmeria for the Quiet Zero project, explaining that Delling created it to rid the world of conflict. Belmeria notes there must be more to it than that, and Prospera simply responds that she wants “to rewrite the world…So that Eri can be happy”.
*This may age like milk, but despite Prospera seemingly being okay with her elder daughter’s fate, I have a difficult time seeing the woman she was at the time voluntarily Gundamize her daughter, unless it involved, say, an accident, or was an act of desperation to keep her alive in some form or another.
*Suletta opens Sophie’s cockpit to find the latter is dead. Norea appears to claim Sophie’s mobile suit and body, and sadly tells Suletta this is the fate of all Gundam pilots, shifting to an accusatory tone when noting that Suletta seems to be an exception.
*Martin has apparently reported Nika for terrorism, as the front company arrives seeking her arrest, and also telling Earth House they’ll be detained on suspicion of association.
*Suletta tries to rationalize what happened, with some assurance from Aerial, insisting that Sophie must have been mistaken, that she and Aerial protected her friends and the school, and repeats her family’s cursed motto.
Tumblr media
*According to Merriam-Webster, cognitive dissonance can be defined as: “psychological conflict resulting from incongruous beliefs and attitudes held simultaneously”; I’m not a psychologist by any means, but that strained smile and those tears? Suletta is definitely suffering from this, and is barely holding herself together.
*So, to summarize:
Asticassia has suffered a terrorist attack, with at least one student dead, and at least several wounded, on live broadcast, in a way that the Benerit Group cannot simply cover up.
President Lauda, CEO of Jeturk, has been critically injured, with no heir apparent, while President Sarius, CEO of Grassley and Acting President of the Benerit Group, has been kidnapped.
Nika has been accused of terrorism and also kidnapped, and the rest of Earth House has been detained on suspicion of association.
Between the attack by Gundams and the arrest of Earth House, Gund-Arm, Inc. is in serious jeopardy.
“Elan” (No. 5) and Shaddiq are doing just peachy.
Sophie is dead, and Norea is escorting her remains back to Earth.
Prospera is recuiting people for Quiet Zero, a project with absolutely terrifying implications.
Delling is still recovering from his injuries.
Miorine is almost certainly about to play a incredibly dangerous game by pretending to cooperate with Prospera while secretly working against her, plus her groom and her company are in dire need.
Suletta’s newfound little sister is dead, she has no idea that her Gundam really is her older sister, nor that she is enabling her mother in a terrible plan, and she’s on the verge of a breakdown trying to reconcile what her mother and Sophie have told her.
*Folks, it’s perfectly reasonable to be distressed by all this, so remember to take a deep breath, and maybe drink some water if you haven’t recently.
*Not only has the school setting been permanently impacted, I'm wondering if Asticassia will even remain open, at least for now; between chaos in Benerit's upper ranks, with only Shaddiq and the ladies of Peil as possible leaders at this point, and the casualties among the student body, I'd imagine a lot of parents are reconsidering their children's enrollment.
*Between Gund-Arm and Quiet Zero, the situation of Earth House, Suletta, and Miorine seems overwhelming, but I wonder if Miorine’s new allies in the Space Assembly League (the ones made back in episode 10) will step and offer assistance.
*In addition to being a game-changer, this episode was also a brutal cliffhanger, and it’s hard to say where everything is going next. From the next episode’s “Father and Child”, it seems likely to focus on either Miorine and Delling, Shaddiq and Sarius, Nika and Naji, or possibly some combination of the three, but we shall see.

Tumblr media
finally have time to continue my rewatch, so on to episode 9
again another one of my favorites and the grassley duel is probably my favorite fight of the series tbh
Tumblr media
worth noting that miorine doesnt seem bothered that shaddiq comes to check up on her. gotta wonder how often he'd swing by, though i think it's safe to say absolutely not often enough that he would show he actually gives a shit
Tumblr media
ok idk how i didnt notice it in the op after so many times but that fuckin door is there again.... i'm just going to hyperfixate on this dumb gold door that probably doesn't mean anything besides being another nod to utena
Tumblr media
lol it honestly kills me that under difference circumstances (aka if shaddiq didnt have his head so far up his ass), they really could have been good friends. instead his decision to stay relatively distant and put up his cunning business front results in miorine (rightly) not trusting him at all.
Tumblr media
right before miorine challenges shaddiq, there's a real fast cut to him tightening his fist on the table and i gotta wonder how in the world he thought he'd be able to just talk this out after basically screwing miorine over like this and then trying to extort her lol. yea he was ready to have to duel if it came down to it, but like cmon man just be normal for once
Tumblr media
god i wish we could've seen secelia just dig into lauda more lmao
Tumblr media
i love that miorine knows how to play the stupid game all these people play just as well as all of them but god am i glad that at the end of it all she doesnt have to deal with any of this shit anymore
Tumblr media
lol i really wanna know how no one had noticed nika having secret meetings and sending secret messages for months tbh like chuchu even makes a comment asking where nika is in the scene before this one so she probably just disappared at random times but anime logic lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Tumblr media Tumblr media
up until this moment when miorine tells shaddiq that he's just like everyone else in the group, did this guy think that anything he's done (or really, hasn't done) would have made miorine think differently?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the look on his face here as miorine stops him from entering her most sacred of spaces just really says it all. like he can't fathom that miorine legitimately does not think positively of him
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is definitely one of my favorite scenes from the whole series. just showcasing how highly suletta thinks of miorine. whereas miorine was upset suletta agreed to a duel with elan a few episodes back, suletta just never questions miorine challenging shaddiq
Tumblr media
this has gotta be the moment shaddiq realizes suletta is a "rival" for miorine's heart, yea?
Tumblr media
i know what you are, sabina
Tumblr media
lol these dorks
Tumblr media
lmao miorine, you're so ruthless
on a serious note, someone please write a random student from asticassia pov fic because like imagine seeing all this going on from some rando's pov. the benerit group princess who hates everyone and has been trying to fuck off as far as possible suddenly forms a business and now she's challenging people to duels????
Tumblr media
imagine if vim had sucessfully murdered delling and he just left guel as bob the builder for the rest of his life. why in the hell did he have to go by bob lmao
Tumblr media
omg did we all collectively forget that the second school shooting episode wasn't the first time she's done this?!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
so glad our little tanuki calls this bozo out on this shit. all you had to do was be a normal human being lol
Tumblr media
the funny thing about shaddiq's little monologue here is that it's all his feelings under the assumption that miorine would forever be trapped within the confines of the benerit group and the stupid game her dad made up. and yeah, i suppose in that respect, he's partially right... but if he knew miorine well at all and not some idealized version of her, he'd know she wants nothing to do with any of that
Tumblr media
bless you, gjm for making this loser seem more unhinged just by choosing to translate onna as bitch lmao
even secelia and rouji are just like uhhhhhhh
Tumblr media
oh this is real nice juxtaposed with episode 24's "i'm a selfish person"
be selfish all you want, little tanuki, you deserve it
Tumblr media
aerial hitting permet score six is such an iconic shot lmao this episode and this part specifically gave me goosebumps like a little loser the first time i saw it as the witch from mercury song starts playing
Tumblr media
omg i am so excited that i preordered a permet score six aerial from p-bandai lmao look at her shes so cool all in blue
Tumblr media
same, prospera, same
Tumblr media
will never forget how happy i was when the till-chuchu headshot happens lmao, it still rules
i hope if gwitch ever gets a recap movie or movies that we get the moment miorine finds out about ericht and aerial. as aerial hits permet score six and suletta is talking to her, we see miorine visibly confused over suletta talking to her mobile suit... and i just really really want to see miorine's reaction to finding out about eri on top of her inner thoughts on suletta talking to aerial. like at first i'm sure she thought it was some quirky thing especially calling it her sister, but it's gotta be something she was like wtf about, right?
made it to image limit so no more pics but one thing that's respectable about shaddiq is him realizing at the end of this episode that there really is something special between miorine and suletta even if perhaps at this point the two of them haven't outright acknowledged it. we see him acknowledge in ep 7 that miorine is becoming a better version of herself from suletta's influence on her, but him bringing up dueling for her hand in marriage, to me at least, is him hanging up his towel when it comes to miorine because he realized suletta really won her heart over - he literally says "maybe you'd have let me in [to the greenhouse]"
lmao i really tried to not go overboard with screenshots but oh well
lets see if i can finish cour 1 tomorrow

G-Witch episode 9 thoughts
Another great episode but that's no surprise. I loved so many things about this one so gonna break it down in order of relevance. First up, Shaddiq.
Tumblr media
Ofc Mio doesn't trust him a lick and refuses to sign the contract even though they both have much to gain by allying. She suspects his motives justly, but she's mistaking his genuine care for her as ambition.
Which leads to the biggest mistake Shaddiq made with Miorine. Inaction. He's played his cards close to the chest from their first school days, something we briefly see in the opening scene. While Guel duels Shaddiq stands on the sidelines and waits, perhaps thinking she'll recognize he's respecting her boundaries before he finally takes initiative.
Tumblr media
Yet the distance also means he can never close the gap between them. Miorine only allows Suletta to cross this line willingly. And since Suletta is unattached to the company warfare within Benerit, Mio feels safe with her in ways she can't with the other duelists. Guel barged inside without regard for her feelings and Shaddiq waited, but both were doomed to fail.
Miorine herself acknowledges by the end that while he may care for her, he did nothing to show it. He stood by as Guel and the rest treated her as a trophy and only began taking action when it was clear Mio was changing for Suletta. RIP
Tumblr media
By the way, can we just appreciate the growth from Suletta in this episode?? She did amazing with the duel ofc, but it's the first time we see some steel from her and I'm so proud. Girl has finally accepted Mio as her bride and voiced multiple times she believes in her. I'm gonna cry
Tumblr media
The duel itself was fascinating as Shaddiq and his Angels play dirty. Speaking of, I wonder if they're set to play a bigger part. It's intriguing they're all named and given personalities beyond what we see from Guel's flunkies. One of them even had beef with Lilique because her boyfriend was rejected. Amazing
Tumblr media
Earth House provided Suletta support in this duel and while they're certainly not ace pilots, they came through at the last moment to score the definitive win. Ngl, I may have shouted when ChuChu blasted his antenna. Shaddiq ate a piece of humble pie here. He deliberately called off his support and demanded to face Suletta himself; a decision which led to his defeat. Mio even rubs salt in the wound, calling out his hypocrisy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was wondering if Shaddiq would play the role of Touga wholly, even giving Suletta her first loss. But I'm very happy to be wrong and see a coordinated team effort between Earth House. This episode was amazing from beginning to end, though there are parts of it that leave me puzzled.
Tumblr media
Why is Prospera crying here? Why is she so overcome with joy at a mere won duel with so little (from her pov) stakes? Is it related to Suletta's performance, or because we see the GUND format glowing blue just like in the prologue; proof of Eri's influence within Aerial? Only she knows the truth, but I'm eager to find out. Until then, looks like the happy train is going full steam ahead for Suletta, Mio, and friends~
For now

Welp
Watched The Witch From Mercury Episode 12 and I feel I’m the recipient of a monkey paw’s wish (here be Episode 12 spoilers):
All the characters whom I wanted to live, did, and ended the cour not in danger, not kidnapped, and not separated, so, that’s technically good, but geez howdy I am NOT okay with how that came about.
Norea, Sophie, and most of Dawn of Fold escaped, so they’re definitely recurring antagonists now, and since Gundam seems to have a time honored tradition of someone having a homoerotic rivalry with the protagonist, looks like Sophie will be filling that role.
Elan No. 5 seemed to have stayed behind at Asticassia after all, so Peil’s situation hasn’t really changed, and unfortunately that means Elan’s nature as a spy in GUND-ARM, Inc. hasn’t been sussed out either, though I do think that No. 5 is eventually going to try to turn the tables on Peil by eliminating and replacing the original Elan, but we’ll see how that goes.
Shaddiq seems undisturbed by his plan’s seeming failure, but since his stated goal is breaking up the Benerit group, he’s actually advanced considerably: Delling is badly injured and will need time to recover, meaning he will have to appoint someone less experienced as Acting President for awhile, and who will have greater difficulty regulating the other corporations (which they will absolutely take advantage of); the terrorists were identified as Earthians using stolen Jeturk suits, which means they are unlikely to be traced back to Grassley, leaving the company’s reputation intact (for now); and Vim Jeturk is dead, which means that he’ll be succeeded by Lauda as President of Jeturk Heavy Machinery, which will leave that company in a position of weakness due to the transfer of power to an inexperienced leader, leaving Peil as Grassley’s only serious rival at the moment (with the added bonus that Vim can no longer testify against Shaddiq, further concealing Grassley’s role in the terrorist attack). From Shaddiq’s POV, he’s definitely sitting pretty after this episode
I did think it was likely that Vim was going to die because of Shaddiq’s betrayal, but I did not anticipate *who* was going to kill him. Poor Guel lived, but he’s going to need a LOT of therapy, and I’m honestly not sure where he’s going after this: it’s likely he’s not going to be blamed for Vim’s death since, due to the terrorists’ use of Jeturk mobile suits and Guel’s own MIA status, it will most likely be blamed on the Earthians instead, and while previously I was pretty confident he was going to attempt to ally with Suletta, his guilt is likely to prod him to take revenge on Dawn of Fold, regardless of who he has to ally with.
Earth House all lived, yay! ...But now they know that Nika is somehow connected to the terrorists, who were Earthians, and that’s not only going raise questions about how much they can trust her, but is also going to make their existence at Asticassia much more precarious; they will likely need to rely more on their status as GUND-ARM, Inc. employees and the blessing of President Delling and Miorine to maintain their school life, and even then anti-Earthian sentiment seems poised to increase. Nika’s also going to have to be very, very careful, since she’s currently the only real loose end in Shaddiq’s plan to conceal Grassley’s involvement, and once he’s aware of that...well, I’m worried for her is what I’m saying,
So Delling lived (albeit badly wounded) which is good for Miorine’s mental health (girl’s already had enough trauma for one episode) and also because it seems dude’s got a lot of secrets between allying with Prospera for his Quiet Zero project and whatever is going on with Miorine’s mother (secrets which he’s in the best position to reveal); in a great bit of irony, his recovery is probably going to be enabled be GUND tech, the very technology he once persecuted (good thing he decided to invest in a medical prosthetics company when he did, eh?). In a morbid twist, and given that Delling is a results-driven ex-military guy, when he learns that Suletta was willing to kill in his and his daughter’s defense, he will likely give his future daughter-in-law his full approval and be pleased that she can be entrusted with Miorine’s well-being, which, yay? (no, I don’t actually think that’s a good development, Delling may not have won Worst Parent of the Year AS 122, but he’s still an asshole).
Speaking of Worst Parent of the Year: Prospera’s revenge plan continues to be enigmatic, but her level of manipulation over Suletta is terrifying at this point (and honestly, I don’t know what’s worse, the possibility that she doesn’t care about Suletta at all and the latter is just a weapon to her, or the possibility that Prospera’s worldview is so warped that, to her perspective, this *is* what loving and caring for Suletta looks like).
Remember when I mentioned that monkey’s paw wish at the start? So, it’s good that Miorine wasn’t killed (though I don’t think most people thought that likely), or kidnapped, or even separated for that long from Suletta, and she didn’t lose her dad or Earth House or her company, and her fiance is even likely to be celebrated as a hero after this...but now she has to deal with multiple traumas, including seeing a guy brutally killed in front of her, and the knowledge that there is something very wrong with Suletta at the moment, and figuring out how to deal with that. I suspect Miorine is probably going to throw herself into work for a bit after this, and part of that will hopefully include a badly needed investigation into what’s going on with Prospera, Aerial, and Suletta.
As for Suletta...Damn.
I don’t blame her for killing that guy to protect Miorine and Delling, and ultimately I don’t think Miorine will either, it’s Suletta’s really *off* reaction to her just killing someone for the first time in her life that’s really unsettling; her state of mind is almost certainly a consequence of being traumatized by seeing people killed in front of her, combined with her mother’s long-term manipulation/gaslighting, but damn that doesn’t make seeing the effect on her any better.
Tangentially related, I’ve been increasingly suspecting that, despite the fandom jokes contrariwise, Prospera did not intend for Suletta to fall in love with Miorine, with Prospera’s absolute neglect in informing Suletta about same-sex relationships (despite her own knowledge of such) being prime evidence, supplemented by Prospera encouraging Suletta to turn toward her (and not Miorine) whenever Suletta’s been encountering difficulty with her new relationships, and I think this is simply because outsiders could potentially weaken Prospera’s own influence (one of the main tactics in manipulating anyone involves isolating them from other relationships). Assuming that this is correct, then, Prospera’s underestimating Miorine’s ability to intervene may prove to be Suletta’s only path to salvation from her mother’s influence.
