Superstore Boys saying ‘I love you’ for the first time:
Marcus!!
- literally shaking in his cloud 9 branded work boots
- spends weeks, months even, practicing saying it in the mirror until he builds up the courage to do it to your face.
- not scared of saying it because of himself. He knows it to be true that he loves you more then anything else in this world. He's more scared that he'll say it and you'll give his this blank stare while you whisper an apology that you don't love him too. (It wouldn't be the first time that's happened).
- doesn't plan an extravagant moment or anything to say it to you, but he does want it to be intimate; just the two of you.
- when the words come out his hands are shaking and he can't meet your eyes, until you lean in close, nudge your nose against his cheek and whisper to him 'I love you too' with a chaste kiss to the corner of his mouth.
- once he says it for the first time, he's never not saying it to you.
- "I love you, babe." "Hey, babe, I love you." "Because I love you will you grab some cheese-it's in the store for me?" "I love you, but I love Kraft Mac and cheese more babe, get used to it."
Garrett!!
- doesn't think it's as much of a big deal as the others, but still finds himself nervous to say it to your face.
- plans a nice dinner for the two of you with all your favourite foods and your favourite movie and dessert for afterward
- when it comes to the actual moment that's when the nerves finally hit
- though Garrett spends most of his time flirting with you and acting all confident around you he just crumples. For the first time in a long time he's actually nervous to what May happen.
- you're cleaning up the dishes claiming you had to after he'd put all the hard work into making the food and Garrett comes up behind you, pulling you into a kiss. And then another and then another before murmuring it against your lips.
- you press one more chaste kiss to his lips and lean back with a wide, glistening smile. 'I love you too.'
- the amount of relief Garrett felt when you said it back!!!! He'd never admit how nervous he was that day, not even to you. He couldn't let you know the power you had over him.
Jonah!!
- Freaks tf out
- he's spent more time then the two of you had been together planning on how he would tell you he loves you.
- he plans the most elaborate day out for the two of you, a trip to the park, a picnic, row boat ride into the lake, a long stroll through a flower garden and then dinner at your favourite restaurant
- however, all of that goes to shit when he calls you up to ask you to bring him home his jacket that he'd left at the store and he ends the call with 'see you when you get back. I love you.'
- a brief moment of silence takes over the two of you as Jonah hastily mutters out 'I didn't mean to say that' before hanging up on you
- you tucked the phone into your pocket with a wide smile on your face, picking up his jacket that you'd already had among your things before heading back to Jonah's place as quickly as you could.
- the second you open the door Jonah's apologising, saying that 'I didn't mean to say it in a good way, of course I meant it! How couldn't I? I love you more then anything! This just isn't how things were supposed to go and-'
- before he can get out another word, your grabbing his by the collar of his shirt and pulling him against you, kissing his passionately before pulling back with a bright grin. 'I love you too, J.'

Boys Like You
Garrett McNeill x Reader,, Jonah Simms x Reader,, Marcus White x Reader
"What if you wrote a fic thats like garrett x reader x jonah x reader x marcus x reader??
Like a love square, and then with multiple endings?
Idk if you write poly but one could be poly, one could be with jonah one with garrett one with marcus!
Its like reader is younger and Cheyenne sees her as a sister, and reader tells her she likes someone in the store and the three boys start like subtly fighting over her and being nicer towards her??
Bonus points if she at one point sits on garretts lap because garrett and lapsitting?? Yes pleaseee"
Word count: 6k {plus 1k per ending}

————————————————————————
"It's sweet." You replied taking another sip of the strawberry smoothie that Jonah had brought up to the break room with him from the stores café. "Very sweet. I like the strawberry though."
"You think?" Jonah asked, knocking the bottle closer to him before bringing it to his lips and taking one long sip. "I think I should've got mango."
Letting out a giggle, you brought your hand up to cover your mouth, pink dusting the apples of your cheeks at you laughed at Jonah's statement. Taking in a deep breath, you picking at the skin of your nails, turning back to look at Jonah.
"There's always tomorrow, J." Jonah let a sweet smile curl onto his lips, scratching at the bottles cap with his nails.
"Yeah but you won't be here tomorrow to try it. It's the best part of buying smoothies." How sweet. Too sweet, almost, the compliment forcing your flushed face to stay pink, now burning hot as well.
"Share it with Garrett, I'm sure he'd love to try." You joked, picking up your sandwich and biting into it, finally getting around to eating your lunch now that you'd tried Jonah's drink.
It had become an odd little routine between the two of you: Jonah would buy a new drink from the café once or twice a week and let you have the first sip, then you'd come to your verdict and debate about its rating. Though it seemed like a fun little game to you - an attempt to work his way through the drinks menu of the store - it couldn't have been further from the truth.
Sure, Jonah enjoyed trying different and new things all the time, but it was mostly a way to make sure he got to spend time with you. Cloud 9 could be more then chaotic, but this bi-weekly shared lunch break was a guarantee that he could spend time with you and hopefully - if Jonah had any day in things - help win you over.
It was no secret Jonah had a crush on you - amongst other people in the store - and though it seemed apparent to everyone else, it appeared as though you never caught onto the brunettes feelings.
"I'm sure you're right about that." Jonah mused, taking another large sip of the smoothie.
"When am I not?" You asked, taking another bite of your lunch as you watched Jonah: his hands picking at the label on the bottle and pulling the plastic material away from where it had been stuck down.
"Very true." He replied, a warm smile forming on his face as his eyes flickered between you and the now empty smoothie that spun between his fingers.
"What time do you get off today?" Jonah asked, his eyebrows creasing in thought as he spoke, continuing to fiddle with the empty bottle.
"Ugh, at 6. I was meant to finish at 4 but Amy asked me to stay till Cheyenne's shift finished too. Don't think she wanted her to man the jewellery counter alone." Though you loved Cheyenne, and would walk to the ends of the earth for her if she asked, you didn't love the idea of being kept behind at work for 2 hours longer then necessary. Not even for Cheyenne's sake.
"Ah! Me too. Hopefully I'll catch you before the days over then?" Jonah hesitantly asked, rising from his chair and tucking it back under the table as his lunch break had all-too-soon come to an end.
"Hopefully." You agreed, taking another bite of your sandwich as Jonah walked away from you, watching as he pushed the bottle into the bin before turning and giving you a final wave goodbye as he left the break room.
Slouching slightly in your seat, you picked at your food, feeling slightly alone at the realisation that you'd probably have to spend the rest of your lunch break alone now that Jonah had gone. Taking the last bite of your sandwich, you wiped your hands against your jeans then grabbed your water bottle, attempting to loosen the lid and drink its content.
"Need some help?" Marcus asked, sliding into the seat to the left of you and gently taking the bottle from you hand. Opening it with ease, he placed the bottle cap into the palm of your hand, bringing the now open bottle to your lips and urging you to take a sip.
Letting the cool liquid slide down your throat, you pulled away from the bottle, pulling it away from Marcus's larger hands and placing it gently in the table between you. Picking up the bottle cap, you loosely screwed it back onto the bottle, hoping nothing would slosh out of it.
"Thank you, Marcus." You mused, a sweet smile curling onto your lips as you tilted your head upwards slightly to look at the other brunette in your life.
Marcus had an odd tendency to always be there when you needed help: though you were previously certain that he'd never eaten lunch at this time, he'd appeared, strong hands and lunch box in tow.
"It's never an issue y/n, not for you." Marcus assured, giving you a gentle smile as he picked up the fork in his cup noodle, twirling it around the noodles and scooping some into his mouth. "So, tell me, why's someone so gorgeous is sat by themselves, huh?"
"Well, Jonah was here, but his lunch break was over and he'd already tried dragging it out. 'think Dina was on his case." You explained, prodding at your sandwich before taking another bite. "'s a good thing your here though."
"Oh yeah?" Marcus asked, stirring his noodles around the cup as he avoided your eyes.
"Yeah." You mused, a laugh bubbling past your lips as Marcus finally met your gaze, a wide smile forming on each of your faces.
Marcus was cute, you wouldn't deny that; even if someone were to outright ask you. He always seemed to be right where you needed him, an offer to help and a sickly sweet smile accompanying it: this time, lunch in hand as well. Though you'd never told him outright, you enjoyed his company and looked forward to the brief exchanges you shared during your overlapping shifts.
It didn't hurt that he always seemed to come out with the most hilarious things also.
Few people paid attention to Marcus, mainly his warehouse crew who looked up to him as a leader, so it wasn't widely know that Marcus had developed a little crush on you. However, those who did have the privy of knowing such information about Marcus's private life, knew it all too well. If the topic of you came up, it was hard to get Marcus to stop gushing about how sweet or genuine you were.
"I missed you, y'know." You admitted after swallowing the last of your sandwich, peeling open your packet of grapes and popping one into your mouth. "Haven't seen you around in a while."
"I missed you too. 'M sorry about that, my shifts got changed around." Marcus sheepishly looked down into his noodles, swirling them around his fork before bringing it to his lips.
"Don't apologise." You insisted, popping another grape into your mouth. "It's good they get changed around. Who would've save me from dehydration?"
"You got me there." Marcus smiled, his face turning slightly redder at what you assumed was from the heat of his food, but was in fact your compliment: the tiniest display of gratitude making Marcus a blushing mess.
"Want a grape?" You asked holding the tub out to him, and pulling it back into yourself as he shook his head. "More for me- shit."
Scrambling to pick up all your rubbish, you quickly pushed back from the table, emptying it into the garbage before returning to the table for your water and leftover grapes. "I need to get back out there, but I'll see you around, okay?"
Marcus didn't get the chance to respond, you rushing out of the break room and away from his before he could give you an answer. You'd been gone mere moments, but Marcus already missed the warmth and light you brought into the break room, his shoulders slouching as he returned to his food.
Rushing through the corridors of the back of the store, you quickly reached the store floor, rushing over to the customer service desk where Garrett was waiting for you with a frown on his face.
"I'm late, I know, I'm sorry." Hunching over slightly, you rested your hands on your knees as you caught your breath after running the length of the store in what felt like a matter of seconds. Tilting your head up, your eyes met Garrett's through your lashes, pleading with him to not be mad at you.
Garrett's frown quickly dissipated into a smile, a laugh bubbling past his lips as he look at you, relief flooding your features. "I could never be mad at you, doll."
Garrett flirted with everyone, that's just how he was, so it would be a surprise to anyone to find out he'd started to develop genuine feelings for you. Garrett didn't do feelings, he did fleeting flings, work flirts and casual sex; but for you? He'd change all that.
"How am I meant to do my announcements without a pretty girl at my side?"
Walking around the counter to be on the same side as Garrett, you pushed yourself up onto the countertop, legs dangling at the height. As Garrett pressed the intercom to speak, he patted his lap - as he always did - in an effort to get you to sit in his lap. As always, you brushed it off with a giggle and a blush rising to your cheeks; Garret just seemed to have that affect on you.
Garrett was definitely a flirt: if you'd leant anything about him in your time at the store it would be that. But sometimes, you couldn't help but wish he'd be more serious, so you could figure out how he really felt about you. He was charming and handsome, and the weird work flirting really threw you for a spin.
"Attention Cloud 9 shoppers, today we have a 90% off sale in grocery and dairy products, so grab them while you can! Though, I'd really think about why we'd that first."
The buzz of the intercom faded, Garrett's hand moving from the microphone to rest against the top of your thigh. If the action wasn't so common, you'd have been blushing furiously and probably making an attempt to leave the situation - the exact effect Garrett hoped to have on you.
"You got any actual work to complete today, doll, or do you just get to sit pretty with me all day?" Garrett asked, thumb running across the clothed skin of your thigh where his hand rested.
"Unfortunately for you, I do have real work to do." Garrett let out a dramatic sigh, throwing his head back, one hand against his forehead the other against his supposed aching heart. "Well, I'm manning jewellery, but I doubt you can call that real work."
Garrett let out a boisterous laugh at the comment, the amount of snark behind your words surprising him. Pushing from the customer service desk, you walked around the desk, finger scraping against the counter top as you moved in an effort to stay connected to it.
"If it weren't for the fact Cheyenne was waiting for me, I'd stay here, don't you worry, Gare." With a wink from both parties, you left the customer service desk and with it Garrett, who's eyes followed your figure until you were entirely out of his sight.
Making your way to the jewellery counter, you found your favourite blonde waiting with a big smile and energetic wave. "Hey y/n! What took you so long?"
"Oh, you know, it's a journey from the break room to here." It wasn't a lie, not exactly, but it probably didn't help that you'd made some detours on your way back to Cheyenne.
"Well, it's good your here now. I was worried." Cheyenne had taken on the role of your older sister since you'd started at the store; she was always looking out for you and making sure you were safe and having a good time - and she always came to you first with any gossip she heard, which didn't hurt to know.
"How are you and Bo?" You asked, turning and leaning against the glass cabinet, to face Cheyenne, a lovesick smile and far off look in her eyes as she thought on your question.
"Oh, well, Bo's the same as ever: little mysterious, little dyslexic, little musically talented - you know how he is." Cheyenne talked about Bo the way you wished someone would one day talk about you. She was constantly reminding you that 'someday your prince will come' and if you were lucky he'd be something like Bo; though you weren't too keen on dating Bo the second, the thought was what mattered. "And Harmonic is cute, as always. We're teaching her Nicki songs at the moment, got to get her ready for the concert in September, y'know."
Cheyenne was always doing something crazy with Harmonica: teaching her tap dance, how to 'fuck the government' and how to build a desk amongst the few you could remember. If she turned out anything like her mother, then you were sure she'd be amazing - with, or without, all these crazy skills.
"Enough with me missy." Cheyenne pointed a firm finger at you, stopping organising rings and such to turn to face you, mirroring your position as she leant against the cabinet. "How's it going with Mr You Know Who."
Cheyenne winked at you, it far too over the top and dramatic, eliciting a chuckle from you. Staring intently at the rings that littered your fingers, you pulled the one on your ring finger in and off, ignoring Cheyennes intense stare.
"Oh, you know, it's going." Cringing at your self, you brought a hand up to cover your face, sighing into your palm before running your hand down across your face, letting it drop limply. "I have no clue what to do Chey, I feel like I'm making it obvious I'm into him, but it feels like he has no clue."
"Just take the big jump and ask him; girls can do that now y'know, it's the thing." Cheyenne grabbed your hand, squeezing it and earning your attention. "Besides, I know he likes you back, because I've seen the way he looks at you. If that's not young love, I don't know what is."
"Chey, you're only a few years older then me." Cheyenne huffed out an even more dramatic sigh then Garrett had earlier, throwing her head back shoulder slumping.
"That's not the point, y/n. The point is, he likes you, and you like him, so either get off your butt and do something about it, or wait around in hopes he asks you out, but that day might never come."
"Wow, Chey, That was actually pretty inspiring." Folding your arms across your chest, you got lost in thought, dwelling on Cheyennes words and trying to figure out what your next move was.
"I know, right? I had to take a motivational speakers class in my senior year. I got a B!"
As you and Cheyenne laughed about and discussed how awful Mr Burkett classes had been - the two of you having gone to the same high school - Marcus finally slipped away from where he'd been listening in to your conversation behind a clothing rack in soft lines.
He hadn't meant to eve's drop, however, when he was making his way back towards warehouse, his break over, he couldn't help but overhear your voice and the conversation had instantly captured his attention. God, he was more then thankful he'd chosen to listen in now though.
Warehouse and his shift was instantly forgotten about, instead Marcus found himself running through the store in search of his best friend, Jonah. When he'd found Jonah, he'd excitedly relayed the news, gushing about how this was his sign to ask you out, which set something off inside of Jonah. Once Marcus had left his side, a dopey grin on his face and a far off look in his eyes, Jonah practically stormed over to the customer service counter in search of Garrett (his best friend). He complained and complained about how Marcus had found out you had a crush on someone and he had assumed it was him, when it was so clearly Jonah. Garrett was seething at both assumptions now, gripping on to the desktop till his knuckles turned white, a tight lipped smile replying to any information from Jonah.
All three boys had decided it was clearly them who you'd been talking about, and had to do something to get your attention - even more so then they'd already been doing. As far as each were concerned, there was no competition for your heart when they were around. And so, it began.
————————————————————————
The first was Marcus, he'd tried to win your heart over with the little things, no matter who else was already. Although, he particularly enjoyed it when there was a crowd to coo at his actions for you.
"Is it just me, or is Jonah acting a bit weird today?" Amy stabbed her fork into her lunch, words muffled by a mouthful of food as she sat with you and Cheyenne.
"It's not just him, Marcus and Garrett have been acting weird all week." It hadn't been long since your conversation with Cheyenne at the jewellery counter had sparked a war you were entirely unaware of.
"Maybe there's some kind of man rabies going around."
"Chey, what?" Cheyenne was known for her abstract ideas and unusual commentary, but this was definitely one of the weirdest you'd heard.
"Yeah, man rabies, 'cause they're men and they look like they've got the crazies. Like, they look like one wrong word and they'll pounce." The comparison was actually pretty good now that she'd explained it. The three boys you usually spent much of your time with, had an odd glint in their eyes; want, need, something though you weren't sure what. It wasn't like them at all.
"Well, all I know, is that Jonah's been odd - odder then usual - since last Friday. And it seems, the same applies to both Garrett and Marcus." Amy shovelled another forkful of food into her mouth, the three of you looking at each other and trying to avoid the boys intense looks that you could feel boring into you even when they weren't looking at you. "Maybe they got into a argument."
"No, that's not it." Hand to your mouth, you thought on the situation, trying to figure out what on Earth could be going on between your favourite boys. "I can't imagine Garrett letting that get to him, it must be something else."
"Man rabies!" Cheyenne insisted, you and Amy breaking out into laughter at the mention of 'man rabies' once more, then carrying on with your lunch as if you'd never been debating the weirdness of the boys.
Reaching for your water, you struggled to twist open the lid, placing it down against the table with a sigh as you got ready to pull down your sleeves and try again with the extra grip. However, you never needed too, Marcus appearing at your side in an instant and opening it for you, leaving the cap on the table top as he held the water to your lips, which you gratefully sipped from.
"Mmm, my hero." Squeezing Marcus's hand, you took the water bottle from him, placing it against the table, your other hand still holding onto his. "Thank you, Marcus."
"It's never a problem for you, y/n, you know that." Marcus was absolutely smitten, a blush rising to his cheeks at just the mention of just name from your lips.
"I know, I know. But still, you're always magically there when I need you... it's sweet." Need you. Need you. Need you. Oh, Marcus was so, so certain it was him you liked, how couldn't it be?
You'd called him your hero, and told him you needed him, it was obvious! The sweet nothings had Garrett and Jonah seething across the break room, the pair completely dimwitted by the fact you were talking to Marcus like that and not them. They'd have to make a move soon before it was too late, that was for sure.
"Never a problem, gorgeous." Marcus squeezed your hand back, pulling it up to his lips to place a chaste kiss against your knuckles, dropping your hand only to brush a piece of hair behind your ear, heat rising to your cheeks.
Amy raised her eyebrows at you teasingly, a silent question of 'what was that?' making a smile curl onto your face. It didn't feel like much out of the ordinary, but for some reason this time it had you feeling butterflies from the tips of your toes to the top of your head.
Ignoring Amy's starstruck look, and Cheyennes smirk, you continued your previous conversation as if nothing had changed, briefly discussing the boys weird behaviour before shifting to conversation about the happenings of the store today: completely unaware of the way Jonah and Garrett were boring holes through Marcus as he strutted out of the break room.
————————————————————————
Jonah was next to try and worm his way into your heart, his efforts a bit more extravagant then Marcus's, but nonetheless very Jonah of him. It wasn't like he was afraid of being flirty toward you, he was afraid of outwardly acting that way with anyone. However, if outward flirting was what would let you know he liked you back, that was what he would do.
"Y/n! Are you okay?" Jonah's hands gripped onto your forearms, his eyes rapidly raking up and down your figure in search of something though you weren't sure what.
"Yes, J, I'm fine, wha-" Your hands reached up to clasp Jonah's wrists, patting up his arms, across his shoulders and to his cheeks, pulling his face up to meet your eyes. His eyes were filled with worry, though you weren't sure why, since you'd been sat in the store all day.
"I heard it hurts falling from heaven." A smirk eased onto Jonah's face, the action foreign and clumsy. "Just wanted to make sure you were okay."
Heat rushed up your neck and across your face as you realised what Jonah had been doing, the cheesiest pick up line you could think of having your cheeks burning from the fact you couldn't stop smiling.
What?
Noticing your hands still held Jonah's no longer worries face in them, you dropped them to your side, nervously clasping them together behind your back, avoiding Jonah's eyes.
What had gotten into him?
Jonah, instead, took your silence as an astonished nervousness, deciding that continuing with his plan was the best idea in order to try and get his point across as clearly as possible. In fact, you were simply struggling to come to terms with the idea that Jonah was being so outwardly flirtatious.
Two fingers beneath your chin had you looking up at Jonah once more, a twinkle in his eye that wasn't there before. "What are you-"
"Did you drive to work today?" Jonah cut you off with an actual question this time, his fingers still tilting you head so you couldn't avails his piercing gaze. "Because I'm pretty sure it was your car that got a parking ticket."
Panic settled in then, once more, and you quickly tried to rush away from him, gathering your phone and checking you had your car keys so you could go and check out this parking ticket. However, you didn't make it more then a foot away from where you'd been, Jonah's hand wrapping around your wrist and pulling you back towards him, pressed chest to chest.
"Because you've got fine written all over you."
You let out a relieved laugh, the relaxed gesture making you lean into Jonah's chest slightly more then you otherwise would have. One of his arms wrapped around your waist, keeping you tight against him. Your stomach was churning in nervousness; and you weren't sure if it was in a good way or a bad way - all you knew was you didn't mind the way Jonah was looking at you. Not at all.
"Where's this from, by the way?" Jonah's free hand pinched the fabric of your shirt between his finger tips, feeling the softness of it between his fingers. His other hand continued to hold you close, too close and too confidently for the likes of Jonah. "It suits you; it looks great on you, actually. And as a matter of fact, I would too."
Your mouth hung slightly agape, unsure what to make of the sudden, very obvious advances and the weird fluttering feeling in your gut; very similar to the one Marcus had made you feel the other day in the break room.
Thankfully, you were saved by a call of your name from Amy. Quickly pulling away from Jonah, you uttered a goodbye, rushing away and hoping that any redness in the apples of your cheeks was gone before she saw you.
Behind you, Jonah stood proud with a bright smile, hands on his hips as he watched you walked away, he himself slowly becoming more and more flustered as he realised what he just did. And at the remembrance of the reaction he'd so clearly had on you.
Oh, Jonah thought, he definitely was the person you'd been on about.
————————————————————————
The last to make a move to win you over was Garrett, who found it harder then the other two guys in his attempts. He already flirted with you on the regular, so he'd have to pull out all the stops to grab your attention - more then he claimed he usually did.
"Morning, Gare."
"Good morning, beautiful." Step 1 of Garrett's plan was easy. All he had to do was act how he normally did with you; casual flirting that wasn't exactly returned and a charming, bright smile that he reserved just for you. "What brings you to my neck of the woods on this sunny morning."
"I heard a rumour that you can't make announcements without a 'pretty girl' at your side." One point for Garrett.
Some days he could tell you weren't in the mood for his flirtatious remarks and he'd tone it down; but other days - like this one - you were almost reciprocating his teasing tone and suave compliment. It was perfect.
Step 2 came next, and though easy to execute, could have dire consequences if not executed confidently and charmingly - which, luckily, wasn't something Garrett found himself having problems with.
Making your way around the customer service desk, you leant against your usual post at the wooden table top, arms folded across your chest as you looked down at him with a bright smile. Garrett, as always offered his lap as a place for you to sit, however, this time, he tried his luck: slipping a hand around your hips and pulling you down to sit on him.
You let out a gasp at the contact; Garrett always offering, you never accepting and the change of position startling you. Why was everyone being so... flirty with you this week?
Your head swivelled to face Garrett in an instant, heat rising to your cheeks as Garrett shuffled you around, trying to help you get comfortable in the new position you'd found yourself in. Legs were across his right knee, you sat on his left, and your arms were clumsily looped around his neck in an effort to stay straight up.
"Good morning, cloud 9 shoppers. Today we've got an extra special offer on sportswear as we are closing that line due to lack of sales. Get them while you can, or don't, because you weren't doing so anyway."
Garrett continued speaking into the intercom, keeping you in his lap as he worked his was through his list of announcements. One hand rested on your furthest thigh from him, his thumb rubbing circles into the jean covered skin.
If you weren't so flustered by the sudden action, you have been angry that he was acting like it was nothing. He'd pulled you onto his lap, and was caressing your thigh as if it was the most normal thing in the world. The thought alone had you even more flustered.
As his announcements finally came to a close, he looked up at you with a suave grin, your flushed cheeks and nervous demeanour only fuelling his motivation to take the next step; step 3.
Step 3 was the easiest of them all; a simple compliment and then an urgent need to go, to keep you on edge and wondering. Thinking about him.
"This is a good view, doll face." Garrett had turned the charm to the max, one hand caressing your face the other your thigh as his words slipped off his tongue, honeysuckle sweet. "You should sit here more often."
Before you had time to process his words, he was nudging you off his lap and back to leaning against the customer service table top, walking off with the quietest goodbye and the knowledge that he had something to do.
Though you couldn't see it, a smirk had curled onto his lips, confidence filling him at the thought he was definitely the guy you were into; especially so when he turned his head to find you a blushing mess still stood where he'd left you.
————————————————————————
It had been a long week.
Every corner you turned, every trip to the break room, every time you clocked in or out or walked to your car it felt like Marcus, or Jonah, or Garrett was there. Fuck, you couldn't even go about your shift without one of them by your side at all times.
At first, it had been sweet, but now? It was just annoying. You loved each of the boys in their own way, but you were beginning to feel suffocated by being swarmed by them 24/7. In any other time, you would've thrived off of the sweet comments from Marcus and the way he was always around when you needed him, or the strange and cheesy pick up lines from Jonah that made you feel butterflies, or even the more outlandish advancements from Garrett, but now it just made you confused.
Cheyenne had pointed it out to you that there was a good chance they'd heard about the fact you had a crush on someone in the store - that and the fact that Amy told you Marcus had confronted her in an effort to get to know you better - in an effort to explain the weird behaviour you'd been experiencing from the boys.
And now that she'd said it, you were certain that was the reason why. It was the only thing you could think of that made any sense: how else could you explain the sudden intensifying attitude from each of your beloved boys? However, nothing could change the fact that your heart was sat on one of them in particular.
In fact, it had been set on him for a long while, and despite the flirtatious efforts of the others, he already had you up wrapped around his little finger; even if he didn't know it.
Walking out of the store, another week come to a close, you made your way towards your car. Pulling out your keys from your pocket, you unlocked the door, pulling on the handle to open the vehicle and climb inside. However, before you could sink into the battered leather seat of your beat up car, a voice called out from behind you.
"Hey, y/n. You got a minute?"
Turning to face the man behind the voice that you recognised all too well, you flashed him a sweet smile, leaning your arm against the brim of your car door to talk to him.
"For you? Always."
A wide, glimmering smile crept onto his lips teeth showing in the wide grin. He took a deep breath, eyes flickering to the floor before returning to your own, squinting as the sunset shone into his eyes.
This was it.
... Garrett's Ending ... Jonah's Ending ... Marcus's Ending

Garrett : Look me in the eyes and tell me you don't have feelings for Y/n.
Jonah : *looking across the breakroom at Y/n* I don't have feelings for them.
Garrett : Jonah, you are nowhere near my eyes right now.
(Wrote this incorrect quote post the same night I posted ‘all nighter’ and figured we deserved a throwback to season 1 of SOTS Jonah, because I low-key miss him and his crush on y/n sometimes 🥲)

Garret : So, would you fuck him?
Y/n : I don't know what's worse: that I don't know what you're talking about, or that my first thought was "who, Marcus?"

Boys Like You: Garrett's Ending
"I've tried my hardest, I really have, but it seems like nothing was enough." Garrett gulped, fiddling with his hands as he avoided your gaze on him, boring into his head. " I flirt with you all the time: I call you doll, doll face and gorgeous and pretty girl and yet you still haven't seemed to get the hint."
You remained silent, it only unnerving Garrett even more, spurring on a confession that he didn't know he had in himself - an effort to try and explain himself, and his feelings, before you inevitably rejected him.
"So, I decided to try and turn it up a notch, y'know? Try and make it more obvious I had feelings for you - cause I do, I like you, y/n. I really, really like you, y/n - and I don't know what I thought, maybe I though that if I got you to sit on my lap, you would realise how obvious I was trying to be. But even then, that didn't work."
"Garrett..."
"And I get it now, I know you don't like me like I like you. And I'm sorry if anything I did ever made you uncomfortable. But I would really, really love to still be your friend." Garrett still refused to meet your eyes, looking at his hands that fiddled with each other in his lap. "If you'll have me, that is."
"This is my fault." You sighed, a hand coming to press against your temple, rubbing into the warm flesh in frustration. "This is my fault."
"Doll- I mean, y/n. It's not your fault you don't feel the same. You can't help that."
"Please don't ever stop calling me doll." You fawned with a sweet smile, grabbing Garrett's hand in your own and running your thumb across his knuckles. "Or doll face, or gorgeous, or your pretty girl."
A smile was slowly curling onto Garrett's lips with each word that left your mouth, courage beginning to bubble at the tips of his fingers.
"Because that's what I want to be: your doll, your doll face, your gorgeous..." A full, wide smile was settled on his face now, his hand squeezing yours. "Your pretty girl."
"Oh, doll." Garrett let out a relived sigh, pulling you down onto his lap for the second time this week, his hand that wasn't holding yours coming up to hold your face. "I've been you're for a long time. All I've wanted and waited for is for you to be mine."
With the suave line - that easily could've been pulled from straight out of a movie script - he pulled your face down, nose nuzzling against his own, before his lips met yours. It was soft, gentle. Gentler then you would've imagined that Garrett would've been, but amazing all the same. It flowed easily, and you didn't have to try hard to avoid bumping heads or leaning in the same way - but, it was always easy with Garrett, wasn't it?
The pair of you pulled away from each other with wide smiles on your faces, warmth filling your cheeks and foreheads pressed together.
"Come over to mine." Garrett pleaded, his hand running up and down your arm as he spoke. "I'll order a pizza, or Chinese, whatever you want and I'll put on some movies."
A laugh bubbles past your lips at the rapid change of opinion, his attempt at appeasing you funny considering he already held your heart.
"That sounds wonderful, Gare." Your lips a hairs length apart, you lazily slot yours back against his, kissing the words of admiration you couldn't say into his soft skin.
You and Garrett spent a weekend filled with laughs together, movie after movie, take out after take out: looking back on all the obvious signs that should've had you all over each other a lot sooner. Repeatedly, you teasingly chastised him for flirting with you at the start of your time at the store, knowing if he hadn't it would've made this whole thing a lot easier. But honestly? You doubted you would've had it any other way.
The pair of you lived in blissful ignorance over the weekend, enjoying your time together in each other's company without ever thinking about returning to the store on Monday.
However, when Monday came, like it always did, it wasn't the pair of you that was affected by the new far too closeness and the constant lap sitting. No, it wasn't. Jonah and Marcus on the other hand, seethed in jealous rage when ever they saw the pair of you together. Realistically, they should've seen it coming. You and Garrett were like two peas in a pod, it was inevitable! But then again, that didn't stop the sting of jealousy whenever either of them saw the two of you together, or the silent yearn that it should've been them.
It all went unbeknownst to you, too encapsulated by Garrett's loving stare and constant hand on your thigh to notice. However, their jealous stares never befell Garrett, a mischievous glint in his eye and smirk crossing his face whenever he noticed their eyes falling on you.
His doll.

One Doodle That Can't Be Undid Homeskillet
Jonah Simms x Reader ,, Garrett McNeill x Reader (Platonic)
"I was thinking like jonah and garrets bestie reader gets heavy baby fever after Cheyenne gives birth and she just tells them both "i want a baby too" and they brush it off thinking she isnt serious but then she keeps mentioning it and then one of them sits her down and asks if that's what she really wants and then reader gets pregnant and she is so happy!"
Word count: 1.9k
Requested by Anon <3
————————————————————————
"I want a baby." You whined, stacking toilet paper with Jonah into a large pyramid shape. Though it wasn't the way Cloud 9 policy recommended, you had found it to be far more stable and efficient.
"You what? Why are you telling me this?" Jonah asked, looking up at you from where he was crouched down, reaching into the box of toilet paper and passing them up to you one at a time.
"It's just, Harmonica is so cute. I want a cute, little baby. Not any time soon at least; just seeing Cheyenne with such a precious baby in her arms, made me want one." You explained, carefully placing the toilet rolls Jonah passed to you onto the pyramid, making sure the display didn't topple over as you stacked it high.
"Hmm. Sounds like baby fever." Garrett suggested, suddenly appearing behind you, startling you so that you pushed too hard against the toilet paper pyramid and sending it crashing to the ground. With a deep sigh, you bent down, picking up as many rolls as you could and beginning to rebuild the display.
"It's a real thing." Jonah added, helping you to rebuild the structure so that you could move on sooner rather than later to something else you needed to do within the store. "I read an article about it. Typically, when men and women come into contact with babies the influx of emotions from being around a it can spark their instincts to reproduce."
"When you say it like that J, all science-y, it sounds less appealing." You and Garret let out short laughs, unsurprised by Jonah's all-knowing ability to come in useful on even the most mundane of topics.
"Where'd you even read that? Twitter?" Garrett teased, knowing that Jonah had a tendency to regurgitate everything and anything he read online into one conversation or another. "The times?"
"Actually, discover magazine." Jonah quipped, happy that Garrett hadn't been able to call out the super he had got his information from this time. Stacking the final tier of toilet paper, you took a step back, taking in your hard-worked display in all its glory.
"Well, whatever it is, I'm sure it'll pass." You hummed idly to yourself, adjusting one of the parts of toilet roll, before stepping back and finally being happy with how the display looked. "Anyone want to split a pizza for lunch?"
"I'm down."
————————————————————————
Oh how wrong you were. The 'baby fever' as your boys had dubbed it, didn't pass. In fact, it seemed to grow stronger and stronger with every day that passed.
"I don't get why you want a crying, screaming, pooping baby y/n. Babies are hard work." Amy slouched down into her seat, her eyes fighting to stay open as she blew on her cup of coffee, hoping to cool it slightly.
"Ames." You whined, stirring your sweetener into your morning coffee absentmindedly. "I was hoping you'd understand. Have you never sat there and though 'I really want a baby'?"
"Well, of course!" She cheered, encouraging your dwindling thoughts once more, sparking a whirlwind that consumed your mind. "But then I had them - and as much as I love them, some days, you find it so hard you question if it was all worth it. And it is - It's just hard."
"Very insightful Ames." You chided, taking a long sip of you still-warm drink, looking at Amy across the brim of your mug. "But I'm still not convinced."
"Well, I can't say I tried." Amy laughed, rolling her eyes at your antics - of course once you'd set your mind on something, you'd not back down. You were stubborn yet determined, sometimes to a fault, but it's something she often admired in you; you didn't back down from what you wanted.
————————————————————————
"You think she's still serious about this? The whole baby thing?" Garrett asked, leaning closer to Jonah so he could hear him as they watched you stocking childcare; every bottle and blanket you picked up being handled with the upmost care.
It had been weeks since your conversation with Amy and months since Harmonica had been born, and the 'baby fever' you had claimed would pass, seemed more prevalent then ever. Jonah had since deemed that you were serious about having a baby - whether you had come to terms with it or not yourself - but Garrett wasn't quite convinced.
"I'm telling you, if she's not pregnant yet, she will be. She's not stopped fawning over babies and everything about them since Harmonica was born." Jonah explained, though Garrett just scoffed at the thought, he couldn't imagine you still being hung up on something so small. Not for this long anyway. "Look watch this. Hey y/n!"
Jonah walked over to you, picking up a pale yellow pair of soft, cotton dungarees - covered in tiny embroidered daisies and with white, heart shaped buttons. "Isn't this the cutest thing you've ever seen?"
"It's beautiful J." You replied, reaching out to feel the material of the tiny outfit between your fingertips. "Soft too."
"It would look so cute on a little one. One with your eyes as well; it would really make them pop." Jonah complimented, his eyes flickering between you and Garrett - as though to tell him that he was right.
"You really think so?" you fawned over Jonah's words, gently pulling the material from his hands and running your fingers along the stitching. After realising that you'd spent just a moment too long looking at the clothes, you shoved it back onto the rack, becoming slightly flustered. "I've got to go."
Leaving Jonah and Garrett behind to finish what you should've stocked, you rushed off into the store, slightly embarrassed by your infatuation with the outfit and how clearly you'd shown that to Jonah and Garrett.
You would get over your 'baby fever' you were sure of it.
————————————————————————
"This feels like an interrogation." You muttered, sipping on the milkshake Jonah had bought for you at you and Garrett's insistence.
"Pretty much is." Garrett confirmed, taking a bite into his grilled cheese that he had bought from the stores deli, against the idea of using his lunch break to ask you about your 'baby fever.'
"Well, we just want you to know that we love you and want what's best for you." Jonah began, your face palling slightly at the seriousness of his words; had something happened? Did they know something you didn't? Of all the things running through your mind, you hadn't thought of what they'd decided was important enough to bring up. "And if that's you wanting a baby, we'll be their to support it."
"He will. I said nothing about supporting a baby." At Jonah's sharp look, Garrett held up his hands defensively. "I'm joking, I will support you doll."
"Just not financially."
"What he means," Jonah continued harshly, unamused by Garrett's usually charming, comedic tone - though you and Garrett stifled quite giggles at his words. "Is that no matter what you decide, we will support that. If the 'baby fever' passes or if it doesn't. We'll be there."
It was sweet - the sentiment of it and all - but even you weren't clear on if you wanted a baby or not. Sure, you thought they were cute and whenever you saw one, you wished you had one to call your own, but, there was so much more to having a baby then just that.
"Thank you." You replied, though it sounded more of a question then a genuine thanks: Garret sending Jonah an 'I knew I was right' look at the uncertainty in your words.
Silence settled among the three of you, no one knowing where to begin at the odd tension that had formed after Jonah's very serious declaration of support.
"This is a good milkshake." You mused, swirling the pink liquid around with your straw that was beginning to become soggy at how long it had remained in the drink. "Thanks J."
It was more then just a thanks for the milkshake though, and deep down you both knew it.
————————————————————————
When the two pink lines glared back at you, the colour was far too vibrant then it should've been.
You hadn't been expecting that.
Having downed three cartons of 'Sunny D,' and having peed on 4 pregnancy tests, you knew this was one doodle that couldn't be undone - no matter how much you shook the plastic stick, the lines never faded or went away.
Though you didn't feel sad, or scared, you felt rather happy at the discovery. Perhaps your 'baby fever' would never fade away; but you were beginning to think you were actually okay with that.
And three months later, a small bump beginning to form, you were certain you couldn't hide it any longer.
Looking into the mirror, a ghost of a smile settled on your face - one that had permanently seemed to remain there since your discovery, and one that made you glow with radiance wherever you went. Your hand rested on the bump lovingly, admiring how different and yet the same you looked with it. You could get used to this.
Finally feeling as though you were far enough along to start sharing your secret, you decided today would be the day you'd tell Jonah and Garrett - knowing, as they'd previously made it clear, you would have their unconditional support.
You couldn't wait to tell them.
————————————————————————
"So." You began, shifting about in your seat, your usual coffee switched out for its decaf version instead, you prepared yourself to share the news. "I've got something to tell you. Or rather, show you."
"Is it another one of those cat memes? 'Cause I don't think I can take another." Garrett groaned, Jonah rolling his eyes and declaring he liked them and wanted more if it were possible.
"No, no. It's a big bigger then cat memes. In fact it's probably as big as a plum." Pulling out the small, black and white photo from your pocket, you unfolded it, sliding it across the table in front of the two boys. Your two boys.
Without words, Jonah stood from his seat, walking around the table and pulling you up into his embrace and rocking the two of you from side to side. "Holy shit y/n! I'm so happy for you!"
Pulling back to look at Jonah, you saw a wide and bright smile consuming his face, much like the one you imagined was on your own face, and his eyes crinkled half-shut. A laugh bubbles from your throat, relishing in the happy moment shared between the three of you: they knew this was what you wanted, and you knew that they'd be there for you no matter what.
"That things inside of you?" Garrett groaned, focused solely on the ultrasound you had placed in front of you.
"Yep." You replied, smile not leaving your face despite Garrett's disgust of babies, not specifically the one inside of you, just all of them. "And in about 6 months, that thing will come out of me."
"Gross." Garrett scoffed, though a smile soon settled on his face. "It's got your nose"

Always the Bridesmaid, Never the Bride
Garret McNeill x Reader
Requested by @lolawassad <3
Word Count: 1.2k
To say your social life had been blooming would be a lie. You couldn't remember the last time you'd hung out with someone who you didn't know from work, and you'd couldn't remember the last time you'd kissed someone who wasn't your ex boyfriend of 2 years.
The dating scene was more than lacklustre and didn't bring you much hope for a romantically active future.
Until Tate asked you out.
You hadn't expected the slightly eccentric, yet extremely attractive pharmacy counter guy to ask you of all people out. Tate was known for his scandalous flings and whirlwind romances with other employees and customers alike. And thinking you'd end up just another story he'd tell, another notch in his bedpost, made your stomach churn.
You knew you were worth more than that, but hey, a dates a date, right?
Garret couldn't seem to agree less.
"Doll, going out with such a sleeze bag as Tate isn't going to make you feel better. Trust me doll, he's going to hurt your feelings one way or another." Garret was just looking out for you, and you'd usually be quite happy about that. But all you wanted right now was some attention from someone new, who you didn't have to care about.
"We've already been out once Gare and he was perfectly lovely. Defiantly a bit of a drunk though, dude was downing margaritas like they were going to disappear." Letting out a small giggle you saw the tension melt out of Garrets creased forehead.
"I'm just trying to look out for you doll, I hate for Tate to hurt you."
"I know that. And I appreciate it Gare. You're too good to me." Garret waved his hand at you in faux humbleness, laughing as you pushed yourself off of the customer service counter. "I'll see you around."
Blowing him a joking kiss you walked away to pharmacy, oblivious as to how he continued to stare at your receding form until you were entirely gone from his sights.
Unfortunately for Garret, he was going to be proven right very soon.
——————————————————————
Walking towards pharmacy, you bumped into Jonah, who was carrying several large boxes filled with flu jabs. Oh how you hated flu season. Customers would flood the store day in and day out, coughing and sneezing everywhere and anywhere. Gross.
Silently taking two from the top on his pile, you flashed you a kind smile, thankful for your help. Jonah was sweet, and even though he'd not been working at cloud 9 for long, he seemed to fit right into your weird little group.
Approaching the pharmacy, you saw Tate prepping someone to have their dose of the shot, looking up and dropping the injection when he saw Jonah approaching.
Hastily jabbing the person in the arm and injection the fluid, he pulled it out just as fast, handing them a plaster and pushing them away from the counter.
"Hey J-dog! You got my boxes, good man. You want me to finish telling you that story now?" Tate pushed his feet up onto the counter top, not waiting to hear Jonas response before he continued.
"Well, like I was saying, too much for me dude. When she got onto her 3rd marg I knew - like who drinks that much alcohol? Wasn't very lady like. Not like I'm going to go out with her again anyway, total pity date." Tate scoffed and your face flushed red as you realised he was taking about you.
What the fuck?
Slamming the boxes onto the counter in front of you, your eyes met Tate's, who quickly pushed up from his seat and tried to spew out an apology.
"I'll see you around Jonah." You said quietly, walking away from the Pharmacy and towards someone you knew would be waiting with open arms - and probably an 'I told you so'.
——————————————————————
After no avail at the customer service counter, you walked up to the break room, where Garret sat eating his lunch in the peace and quiet.
"Gare..." you whined, your words cutting short as more tears filled your eyes, your voice catching in your throat.
"Oh baby doll." Garret motioned for you to come for a hug, you crashing into his arms as you met him.
"You were fucking right." You sobbed out, tightening your hold on the man before you, tucking your head as far as it could go into the nape of his neck. Hoping and praying if you stayed there long enough you would just disappear.
"I mean, I don't want to say I told you so... but." Garrets words broke the tension that had settled over the break room, making you let out a croaky laugh. Aw man. He always knew how to make you smile.
"Anyway, you deserve better then the likes of Tate." Garret soothed, rubbing calming circles on your back. "You deserve someone who will treat you like you're the only thing that matters on this earth."
Letting out a deep sigh, you looked up at Garret from your place against his chest, unsure where exactly his speech was going.
"Someone who will make you laugh, and make you happy. Who will cheer you up when you're sad. Who will make you feel good about yourself, and remind you how beautiful you are each and every day. Someone-"
"-like you." You interrupted Garrets speech, the sudden realisation hitting you like a ton of bricks. Garret was describing himself, at least to you he was: the way he talked about the person you deserved was what you had found in your friendship with Garret. But, God, did you want more than friendship with the man.
How you had never seen it before amazed you - you and Garret had been friends for years, since your very first day at cloud 9, you'd been attached at the hip. And you'd known you'd liked him for at least the past year, but hearing him list off all the things you deserved, made you realise that he liked you too. The flirty back and forth, the cute nicknames, the comforting touches and knowing glances were all more then they had first appeared to be - every moment spent together suddenly feeling more romantic then it ever had in the moment.
"You like me." You asserted, looking intently at Garret's face, amused by the heat that now flared across his cheeks.
"Next time I'll try and be more obvious doll face." Garret teased, his hand moving from your back to rest onto of your hand, giving it a light squeeze. Giving him a gentle push you stood up next to him, walking towards the door of the breakroom.
"I'll see you later Gare." You promised, smiling at Garret as you leant against the doorway to the breakroom.
"Oh will you now doll?"
"Yeah! For the date you better take me on tonight." Smirking at the man, you turned and walked away from the breakroom, filled with a new sense of confidence and warmth. Hearing Garrets loud laughter brought a genuine and wide smile to your face, excitement filling you at the thought of seeing him, hopefully sooner rather then later.
——————————————————————
Thank you for the request!!

Confusion and Confessions
Garret Mcneill x Reader
"younger reader liking garrett but she thinks he doesnt like her back so she lets jonah or marcus take her on a date and garrett confesses"
Requested by @lolawassad <3
Word count: 2.1k
You liked Garret. You really did - and you had since the day you started at cloud 9. Yet, he'd never seemed to notice, at least as far as you were aware.
Prior to now, you'd spent days, weeks - even months - waiting for Garret to notice your affections and ask you out, as you were too concerned about getting rejected to act on your feelings yourself. So when Marcus asked you out, you decided their was no harm in going out with him, especially when Garret would never see you as more then a friend.
"I just don't understand, why would you want to go out with him?" Garret asked, deeply confused and seemingly stressed by the fact you had agreed to go out with Marcus.
"The dude's sweet enough," You defended, folding your arms across your chest. "Besides, It's not like I'm going to get any otherwise. God knows all I do is work."
"So you're just going out with the guy to get laid?" Garret asked, surprise filling his words.
"Oh, get off my dick." You snapped back at the man who sat beside you, fed up with his criticisms of your date. "Marcus is nice. And who cares if I'm going out with him to get laid? You certainly shouldn't be one to judge."
Pushing away from where you had leant against the customer service counter, you stood up, ready to leave Garret as his attitude was not amusing you today. If he had such an issue with it, he should have asked you out instead. But he hadn't.
"I'm just saying, y/n. You could do better." Fed up with Garret's constant criticism, especially after Marcus had been nothing but sweet to you since he'd asked you out, you began to walk away.
"I'll see you tomorrow Gare. I've got to go and get ready for my date." Waving goodbye to him, you turned around headed for the breakroom to get your things before making your way home to get ready for what you were sure would be a good night.
Unfortunately, when wrapped up in your own thoughts and anger at Garret, you didn't see as he watched your retreating form longingly until you were completely out of his sight - wishing it was him who was taking you out tonight instead.
————————————————————————
Brushing the fallen strands of hair out of your eyes, you looked yourself up and down in the mirror once more, making sure you looked good for your date with Marcus tonight. Though you didn't particularly mind what the outcome of your time tonight was, you still wanted to impress the man who had asked you out.
Smiling at your reflection, you smoothed out the fabric of your dress, pulling your bag onto your shoulder and picking up your phone which then buzzed in your hand.
Marcus <3 | I'm outside! Can't wait to see you ;)
A blush covered your cheeks, taking a second to breathe, you slipped your phone into your bag before quickly walking out of the front door. Marcus was leant against the side of his car, a single pink carnation held loosely between his fingers, which he rolled back and forth between his forefinger and his thumb. Looking up from where he had been staring intently at the floor his eyes met yours, his mouth dropping open slightly as he took in the sight before him.
"You look beautiful." Marcus complimented, though his words came only barely above a whisper due to the awe he was captured in. He suddenly scrambled to stand up straight, taking a step closer to you and offering you the flower he had brought with him, before running around to the other side of his car and opening the door for you. "M'lady."
You let out a quiet laugh, a hand coming up to cover the smile that was covering your face at his very serious use of the formality. Holding the flower delicately, as though not to damage it, you walked around the side of his car, placing a gentle hand against his chest as you now stood right in front of him. "Thank you my lord."
Climbing into Marcus's car, you watched as he ran around to the drivers side, hopping inside quickly, his excitement making him appear as though he was visibly vibrating inside the vehicle. With a final glance shared, you noticed Marcus had forgotten to plug in his seatbelt, so you leant across him, grabbing it and gently placing inside the socket.
"There you go, nice and safe." You sheepishly smiled at him briefly, shifting back into you seat and looking out of the window, excited for what the night ahead of you may hold, especially when Marcus had already been so sweet to you and the night had barely begun.
————————————————————————
"No way he said that! Really?" You cried, nearly stumbling over your own feet as you were laughing so hard at what Marcus had said, his story making you laugh so much your stomach hurt. However, you were quickly stabilized by Marcus's hand wrapping around your waist, pulling you into his side and helping you walk down the path as you continued to laugh.
"Yeah, really! It was hilarious!" You leaned more into Marcus side as you laughed once again, the conversation slowly dying down as you realised you had completed the walk back to your front door from the car, Marcus's story having filled the silence that may have otherwise remained.
Coming to a standstill at your front door, you both stood facing each other, a slightly awkward silence filling the distance between the two of you, Marcus's hand having slipped from around your waist to hold your hand in his bigger, warmer one.
"I had a good time tonight." He admitted, his thumb brushing over your knuckles as he rocked back and forth on the balls of his feet anxiously. "Did, um- well, did-"
"I had a great time Marcus. Really." Your response was earnest, having had more fun tonight then you had had in a long time, not just in the realm of dating, but in general.
"Well, maybe we could do it again sometime? Or something? If not though I totally understand." The blushing mess before you made your stomach fill with butterflies, Marcus's words being vulnerable and genuine, him seemingly worried that you wouldn't want to see him again despite the amazing night he had made for you.
"I would love to." You confirmed, leaning up and placing a light and delicate kiss on his cheek, lingering there just a moment longer then you should have, revelling in this strange, new thing you were feeling.
"Goodnight Marcus. Thank you." Slipping away behind the safety of your front door, you slammed it behind you, leaning against it and slipping down to the floor. You hadn't felt so overwhelmed from being on a date - in a good way - in a long time, and it was all too much, the butterflies beating against your stomach making you feel sick. Unbeknownst to you, Marcus was experiencing something not all that different only on the other side of the door, still in the spot you had left him, his hand hovering over the ghost of a kiss you had left upon his cheek.
You couldn't wait to tell Garret about it in the morning.
————————————————————————
"Who rained on your parade?" Jonah asked, sitting down in the seat next to Garret, the seat usually occupied by you. Scouring his eyes across the breakroom for you, he finally found you, sitting at a different table, with a different guy then usual and seeming to be enjoying it all too much. "Oh."
"I still don't get what she sees in him." Garret scowled, his knuckles turning white due to the tight grip he had on his mug of coffee, fuming at the sight before him. He had hoped he'd said enough before to convince you to not go on that stupid date, but now watching as the two of you laughed and joked together, he'd wished he'd done everything he could've to stop you.
Garret hated how you looked at him: your cute little smiley-eyed expression that he had thought was reserved just for him, the way your hand rested against his arm without thought which you usually did with him when he'd told a joke you couldn't hide your laugh at, the way you were sharing your morning in the breakroom over a coffee with Marcus and not Garret as you had done like tradition everyday since you began here.
Garret felt as though he had been replaced overnight - and he didn't like it one bit.
"Should've made a move while you had the chance." Jonah chastised, waving at you over the brim of his coffee as you looked around the breakroom and made eye contact with him. "God knows she likes you, even I can see that. And If I didn't know better, I'd think you liked her too."
"No, I- I never-" Garret's attempted defence was cut short as you shouted Jonah over to you, wanting him to hear the story Marcus was telling you, thinking he'd like it.
"Duty calls." As Jonah walked away, joining you with a wide smile and an awkward side hug, Garret made the decision he had been dreading, knowing that if he didn't say something sooner rather then later, he would probably loose you for good.
————————————————————————
"Done avoiding me now are you?" Garret asked as you approached the customer service counter, him seeing you without Marcus by your side for the first time so far today. Quirking your eyebrow at him, you continued towards the counter he sat at, taking your usual spot leaning against the ledge of it and looking slightly over your shoulder at him.
"I could never avoid you Gare - what are you on about?" The man before you let out a deep, frustrated puff of air, his shoulders dropping and a frown settling on his face.
"Where's thing two?"
Oh. So that's what this is about?
"Are you still being grumpy that I agreed to go out with Marcus? Seriously?" Standing up straight you turned to fully face Garret, folding you arms across your chest and glaring at him in disbelief. "I don't understand why you can't just be happy for me? I had a great time and Marcus is so sweet to me, so what is your issue?"
"It's not that Y/n I just-"
"Well it sure seems like it. This is the first time I've gone out with anyone and actually enjoyed it in years. You know how I feel about this kind of shit." You cut Garret off abruptly, anger completely consuming you as you couldn't believe you had been so foolish as to think that your best friend would ever be happy for you. "And it's not fair for you-"
"You're right its not fair for me!" Garret cut you off this time, for some reason upset at what you had said as though it wasn't the truth; as though you hadn't spent the last few years waiting around for him to notice you, as though it was bad for you to be happy about a date going good, as though he wasn't acting like a dick. "Because it should be me."
What?
"I should be the one talking you out, and walking you back to your doorstep and kissing you before I go, and bringing you flowers or whatever. Whatever he did I can do, and I can do it one hundred times better! It's not fair that he gets to have you when you're all I want."
"Gare-"
"Don't pity me." Garret snapped, his harsh tone cutting you off before you could even begin to admit you felt the same about him. "I can clearly see you're more then happy in your current situation."
"I think I'm In love with you." You whispered out, Garrets demeanour immediately dissolving at the sheepish tone you used, suddenly very aware of close you had gotten to each other despite the counter separating you. "I mean, you're like the coolest person I've ever met, and you've always treated me as an equal, even when others treated me as though I was a kid just because I'm younger. You're my best friend, and I would kill for you to be more - if that's what you'd have me be."
"Well then, you better go and cancel any second date plans you've made." Garret commanded, his hand reaching out to intertwine with you own, his thumb rubbing back and forth over your knuckles. "'cause I've got to take my girl out on a date."

For The Greater Good
Garrett McNeill x Reader
"So garret, our beloved, i was thinking about younger reader being shy but liking garret, very obviously but she is oblivious to garret liking her back and one day jonah gets enough of the pining and flirts with reader and then jealous dom garrett?"
Word count: 1.3k
Requested by @lolawassad <3
Jonah was practically buzzing in his seat with the knowledge that sat unused in his head. The breakroom was tensely quite, you and Jonah sat across from each other while Garret tried to get something out of the vending machine.
Your fingers drummed against the table without thought, your other hand wrapped around the smoothie Jonah had pushed across the table at you, demanding that you try it. Pulling the bottle away from your lips, you loosely screwed the lid on before sliding it back over to Jonah, whose hand was readily stretched across the table to grab it from you.
"So what do you think?" Jonah asked, his knee bouncing up and down rapidly underneath the table, filled with tension.
"Sweet." You replied, letting out a low hum as you took in the taste of the bright red drink that remained in your throat. "But not bad, I like strawberries."
"Not as sweet as you though." Jonah rushed out as soon as you finished talking. Choking on the smoothie at his words, your face began to flush a bright, hot red; what did Jonah just say?
"W-what? I'm sorry J, did I-" You stuttered, flustered at the small complement from Jonah. Though he'd complimented you several times before - as had your other friends - it never stopped you from feeling slightly embarrassed. Especially when Jonah said it with such enthusiasm.
"Oh, you heard me princess." Jonah smirked, falling back against the back of his chair, bringing his smoothie up to his lips and taking a long sip. At his suave attitude, you felt your face become hotter - it had taken you months, maybe even years, to get used to hearing nicknames from Garrett, so for Jonah to come out with it had greatly startled you.
"Oh." You squeaked, shrinking into your chair, a red flush covering your face and neck. "Okay then."
"Did I just hear what I thought I heard?" Garrett asked, moving back to his space next to you at the table, throwing his bag of takis onto the table and folding his arms across his chest.
"Heard what?" Jonah asked, pushing away from the table and standing, walking out of the break room with a wink in your direction. "I'll see you around gorgeous."
"Has he come down with something?" Garrett all but yelled, arms still crossed across his chest in frustration. What did Jonah think he was doing? Garrett had told him he liked you, and now he was pulling whatever this stunt was? He thought Jonah was his friend.
But he'd soon find out how much of a good friend he was trying to be.
———————————————————————
"This is stupid." Amy scoffed, rolling her eyes at the bright eyed expression that rested on Jonah's face. "You're digging your own grave."
"I think I'm doing the opposite actually." Jonah chided, a proud smile settling on his face at the pure genius of the plan he had concocted.
After Garrett had revealed to him his feeling for you, and you had revealed your feeling for Garrett to him, Jonah had decided he'd have no choice but to play matchmaker, and put you two together - whatever the cost.
And if that cost was Jonah blatantly flirting with you until one of you cracked, then so be it.
"Oh and what is the opposite of that?" Am questioned, unamused by Jonah's meddling antics and how likely this would upset you in some way or another.
"Oh, well. I've never actually thought about it before - it's quite philosophical actually when you think about it..." As Jonah ranted on about what the opposite of digging your own grave was, Amy snook away, hoping she could let you in on Jonah's plan before he could make you a blushing mess once again.
———————————————————————
"Hey there beautiful." Jonah flirted as he walked up to the customer service counter where you had been enjoying a conversation with Garrett. Sliding next to you, he snaked his arm around your waist, pulling you into his side - his other hand brushing a stray strand of hair behind your ear. “How’s your day going?”
“Oh, um, it’s good - I guess.” Your hand pushed against Jonah’s chest gently, feeling claustrophobic at the sudden closeness between the two of you - not that you hadn’t been this close before.
Sure you had hugged and whatnot, but it had never felt so… intimate.
“How’s yours been?” You innocently asked, unaware of Jonah’s plan to turn everything and anything he could into some kind of innuendo or flirtation.
“Well mines better now I’ve seen you again.” With a wink he leant forward, brushing his lips against your temple in a fleeting kiss. Well, this day just kept getting weirder and weirder. “See you around gorgeous.”
With a final, yet brief, goodbye to Garrett, Jonah walked away from the customer service counter.
“What is going on with him today?” Garrett spat, a scoff coming from deep within his chest. You didn’t understand his distaste for Jonah’s actions; though it was probably clear you weren’t too comfortable with Jonah’s change in temperament, it was Jonah. And you could never be truest uncomfortable around him.
“Yeah, it’s weird, to say the least.” You muttered, not sure how to quite phrase what you were thinking: it was weird for Jonah definitely, but if the sweet names and lingering touches were coming from someone else, it probably wouldn’t be so. “I’ll see you around Gare.”
Pushing away from the customer service counter, arms folded and eyebrows furrowed, you nearly didn’t hear Garrett. “Catch you later doll.”
———————————————————————
“Y/n! I’ve been looking for you all day!” Amy whisper yelled through her teeth, storming towards you and wrapping her arm around your own. Leaning in so she could talk to you in hushed tones, you walked together from the break room, having clocked out and ready to go home for the day.
“Oh! Hey Ames, how’s your day been?” Relieved to be with someone who wants Jonah for a second, you let out a breath you didn’t realise you were holding in.
“How’s my day been? It’s been good thank you, had some issues with the guys in the warehouse but that’s sorted now.” Amy rushed, quickly becoming breathless as she sped through her day in order to get to what mattered. “But how’s your day been? Jonah told me about his stupid little plan.”
“What plan?” You asked, unaware that Jonah’s behaviour today had been orchestrated; whatever weird, little game he had been playing with you wasn’t just him being odd. “Ames, what plan?”
“Oh, hey pretty.” Jonah smiled as he slid up next to you, his fingers curling between your own and pulling you along with him. He gently pulled you away from Amy and closer to him, in the direction of Garrett who had been waiting to drive you back to his for your weekly ‘End of the work week’ movie night.
Amy rolled her eyes at Jonah’s words, unsurprised that he was still trying to sell his ploy till the very end of the line. As you came to a stop in front of Garrett, who stood with a scowl on his face, he squeezed your hand, slowing stepping away from you keeping your hands connected. “I’ll see you around Doll.”
“You don’t get to call her that.” Garrett huffed, glaring up at Jonah who feigned innocence at the pet-name. “That’s my thing - our thing.”
“It’s not like it’s reserved just for you.” Jonah challenged, a knowing smile forming on his face as he spoke - as though it was his intention to rile Garrett up. “It’s not as though y/n’s yours to call doll.”
“Well she should be.” Garrett rebuked, anger immediately dissolving from his body at the confession he had accidentally made.
“I think we should leave these two to sort thinks out, don’t you Jonah.” Amy seethed, grabbing Jonah by the shoulders and steering him out of the store.
“So you like me, huh?”
———————————————————————

Sitting On The Shelf - Marcus White x Reader
Part 5 - Shoplifter
SOTS Masterlist
As you and Amy pulled up to Cloud 9, you checked off a point on your mental to-do list. In the car ride over you, Amy and Emma had discussed the strongly worded voicemail that had been left by your mother the other day. It had been a difficult conversation - anything to do with your mom was difficult, but the voicemail she'd left had your feelings all up in the air again.
You knew her words were meaningless, that she was just saying things she knew would get to you; but that didn't make them hurt any less. She was your mom after all, and as hard as you tried not to, you couldn't help but hope she'd change, that she'd grow to love you as she was supposed to - like Amy loved Emma.
As you got out of the car, you wiped the stray tear that had fallen from your cheek, taking a deep breath in as to prepare yourself for the day you would have to face once you were inside the store.
Barley through the doors you already heard Garrets cries. "Oh, Jonah touched a dead guy! Jonah touched a dead guy!"
You could do this.
————————————————————————
"Well, we can likely rule out foul play according to his license, he was 87. Probably died of old age." Dina announced to the breakroom, flicking through the contents of the mans wallets to find a slot to place the ID card back into.
"My great-grandma died the same way. Her mom too. Bad genes, I guess." Cheyenne said making you chuckle. Cheyenne had a way with words that made everything she said feel... so perfectly Cheyenne - funny and slightly naïve.
"So, she just kept the dead man's wallet, and we're all okay with that?" Amy asked, sitting across the table from you, her hand caressing a warm mug of coffee; much like the one you had yourself.
"Finders keepers." Dina replied, shrugging her shoulders as she tucked the wallet into her back pocket.
Bringing the cup of coffee Garret had made for you to your lips, you took a long sip, allowing your eyes to close as the warmth seeped through your body. As you opened your eyes they were met with the whiskey hues of Marcus's. Hiding your smile behind the brim of your mug, he flashed you a bright and wide grin, holding his hand up in a small wave. The shared moment between the two of you was far too quickly broken for your liking, by a sharp nudge from Garret. You rolled your eyes at the man beside you, ignoring his look of confusion, choosing to instead take another sip of coffee.
"Anyway, uh, I thought we should all gather as a group in sort of a safe space so that we can share any feelings that we have. About what happened. Um, is anyone feeling any sadness? Or shock? Or guilt? There are no wrong answers. Yes, Garrett." Glenn asked around, worried that someone may be feeling upset due to the man that had been found in the store - though it seemed pretty clear that Glenn was the most upset about it.
"I guess apathy. I don't got any feelings about this dude." Garret stated blankly, causing Glenn to take in a sharp intake of breath.
"I agree with Garret, Glenn, I don't think any of us knew who this guy was before today." You and Garret shared a look as Glenn let out a frustrated whine.
"Okay, uh, Garrett and y/n, thank you for sharing. Um, is anyone else feeling feelings of apathy? Okay, well, that's valid. That's va no, it's not valid! You know what? No one is leaving this room until I see someone express some real g-d emotion!" Glenn's sudden outburst shocked you, while you could tell the incident this morning had effected him, you didn't think it had this much.
"Uh, well, perhaps seeing a dead person today made us all realize how fragile the journey of life really is." Jonah offered, his wide eyed expression revealing that Glenn's outburst had surprised him too.
"Thank you. A little cliché, but points for effort. All right, um, why don't we just all. Bow our heads." Glenn announced, driving the break room in to an attempted prayer.
Though his attempt was quickly stopped by Dina enforcing the stores rules over Glenn's satisfaction. If he didn't have the chance to express how he was feeling now, you knew it'd probably eat at him all day - and then evolve into something much worse then a moment of silence.
"Okay, Amy, could you come and say a few secular words?" Glenn asked, sending a pointed look at Dina who simply gave him a tight lipped smile back.
"Um Charles, uh, wasn't just a man who needed corrective lenses, he was also not an organ donor. And, um, in conclusion, he lived on Oak Street. Thank you." Amy was hesitant in her words, trying to please both Dina and Glenn while working with what little information she had.
"Beautifully said Ames." You cheered, clapping quietly at her as she took her seat across from you again.
"So tragic." Mateo said, a frown forming on his face. Though it quickly returned to a smile as he asked, "What's gonna happen to the couch?
"What? The couch?" Glenn asked, confused and partially offended that people cared more about the couch then the man.
"It was the fanciest one in the store." Mateo affirmed, looking around the break room as people made sounds of upset.
"He died on the fancy couch?" Cheyenne whined, upset there'd be no more fancy (and comfy) couch to sit on when we should be working.
"Does that mean it's gonna be on sale?" You asked, meeting Cheyenne eyes as you spoke. If it was you'd totally chip in to buy it for her; she had the space for it and you'd had loads of good times on that couch talking together.
"We don't have to tell anyone somebody died on it." Dina scoffed, rolling her eyes at the idea of stock being lost of something 'so little' as the death of a customer.
"Not disclosing someone died on it is lying. I'm a man of truth, Dina. Maybe lying's your thing." Glenn snarked, still riled up by being denied his moment of prayer earlier.
"Oh, you like truth, huh?" Dina asked, placing her hand firmly on her hip as she looked threatening over Glenn.
While Dina and Glenn argued, yet again this morning, over whatever you stood to leave the break room as did everyone else. There was work to be done and Dina and Glenn's antics shouldn't stop you. However, as you went to leave, you turned to face where Marcus had once stood - hoping you'd have the chance to talk to him before the long day ahead of you. Unfortunately for you, Marcus was long gone, so you left the break room; a slight slump in your shoulders as you did.
————————————————————————
"You're loading that wrong." Turning to face the familiar voice, you laughed at Emma's observation. Despite being so much younger, and having no formal training, she was right.
"Oh, um, thank you, little girl, but I think I know what I'm doing. There we go. Just got to use a little muscle." Jonah responded, trying to force the pallet into the freezer with all his might.
"Can I have one?" You and Emma asked at the same time, laughing at how I'm sync you were. However as Jonah tried to grab one, with how he stocked them, he couldn't.
"Sure. And I don't know if you..." Jonah's sentence went unfinished as Amy came speeding around the corner.
"Emma, there you are. I told... you loaded it wrong?" Amy clasp her hands around Emma's shoulders, more than ready to drag her away, until she saw Jonah's attempt at stocking the fridge.
"Wait a minute. That's your daughter!" Jonah shouted in shock, waving his hands around in front of him.
"And you knew!" He shouted again this time turning to face you, who was holding a hand to your face in an attempt to smuggle your laughter.
"Shh! We're not allowed to bring our kids to work." Amy whisper shouted at Jonah, pushing Emma behind her as she spoke. "My sitter cancelled, and she's hanging out for a couple hours, but can you please not tell Glenn or, shh Dina."
"No, no, no, no, your secret is safe with me. I'm not telling anybody. Hi, I'm Jonah." Jonah bent down to Emma's height as he spoke to her, making you laugh as he tried to act cool.
"Yeah, I figured. You guys are right, he is incompetent." Emma said looking between both you and Amy as she insulted Jonah.
"You told her I was incompetent? Ba-na-na-na. Talk about me at home? I don't know if I should be flattered or insulted." Jonah flashed Amy a toothy smile as his ego grew at the idea she talked about him at home. Oh they were definitely work flirts.
"Don't be flattered." Amy said, turning away and taking Emma with her. As they left, Emma sent you a small wave over her shoulder, before she turned and follow in time with her mom.
"Yeah you should be insulted." You said to Jonah as you turned back to the fridge to try and fix his miserable attempt at stocking it.
"You talk about me at home too y/n?" Jonah asked, a smug smirk still on his face.
"No, but I do talk about you to Amy and Emma." Ignoring the look of shock on Jonah's face, you continued to take the pallets out and put them back in correctly.
"I used to look after Emma a lot, I still do sometimes, but we'd talk about stuff. Sometimes you'd come up." You shrugged your shoulders as you spoke, acting nonchalant about what you'd said, knowing otherwise it'd just feed into Jonah's ego even more.
As Jonah stumbled over his words, you finished placing in the pallets of stock correctly. You stood up, brushing you hands off onto you jeans before announcing, "I'm going to find Garret."
Turning to leave Jonah, you felt a buzz come from your back pocket. Pulling out your phone, the screen was illuminated by the notification of a text.
Marcus :p | Morning y/n :) Come find me when you've got a minute.
————————————————————————
As you walked towards the customer service counter where you saw Garret sat, you saw Dina approach him.
"Hey, Garrett. I've got a shoplifter in my cross-hairs." Dina bragged, looking around the store floor as she spoke, as if she was waiting to figure out who exactly was shoplifting.
"Hmm, I've taken four breaks today, so I guess we both got stuff to brag about." Garret smirked at his own words, appeasing Dina's antics to get away with his own.
As you heard a cry come from somewhere within the store, you saw Dina ready to run off. "Gotcha, you gorgeous piece of garbage."
"What was all that about Gare." You asked, raising an eyebrow at him as you spoke.
"Dina's got a shoplifter or something, I'm not really sure." His confused look made you both let out a laugh. Dina had always been an interesting character.
"So what's up baby girl?" Garrets look of concern and care made you feel more confident about what you were about to do.
You laughed and shook your head at Dina's words, turning to face Garret as your laughter died down. "I just need to speak to you for a sec, Gare, if that's okay?"
It was now, or never, you had decided. Cheyenne's words filing you with enough confidence to do something that had been working you up for weeks now; you had to tell him.
"Of course you can doll, I'm all ears." He sent you a charming smile, reminding you that nothing should change once you told him. No matter how much bad stuff had happened, he'd still be the same; and for even that, you were grateful.
While you didn't want to talk in front of the audience within the breakroom, you weren't sure if the store full of customers was any better. Listening ears, and the all too nosy people of St Louis, made you worry that someone passing by would relay what you were going to say to one of your co-workers. However, you weren't going to let fear hold you back after coming this far.
"It's a lot. I have a lot I want to say, so please can you just listen until I'm finished speaking?" Garret nodded his head slowly, a curious look crossing his face as he spoke. This was going to be a difficult, yet important, conversation.
"I know you've been suspicious of me getting lots of rides home from Amy, but it's for a good reason. I've been living with her." Garret chocked on his own saliva as the words registered in his mind. You'd been what? Despite his shock, he sat quietly, still giving you the opportunity to speak.
"My mom kicked me out. Amy knows. But only because I'd thought I was the last person left at the store, but she had to lock up the store and she..." You took a deep and slow breath in as you spoke, trying not to let the tears well up in your eyes.           "And she found me crying at the bus stop. I'd waited to get the last bus home because I knew I had nowhere to go, and I didn't want to worry anyone. Shit, I didn't think anyone would care if I did tell them."
"Most importantly, I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner. Out of everyone in this store you should've known, and you should've known sooner. I was just scared? And I was ashamed. And I was so worried it would change how you looked at me that I thought that maybe it was best to just not say anything at all." Now, you didn't care to stop the tears from spilling over, as you let them fall freely down your cheeks - Garrets hand coming to gently wipe the fallen tears away.
"I thought, maybe, It would make you want to leave me too." A sob wracked your body as you let out those final words, only just understanding yourself why you'd been so reluctant to tell Garret. Though deep down you knew Garret wouldn't change because of something so out of your control, that couldn't stop you from worrying and overthinking.
Garret swiftly pulled you down into a tight hug, holding your shaking body tightly against him. Despite him now having the opportunity to speak, he sat silently against you, not knowing how to respond to such a vulnerable moment shared between the two of you.
As your tears slowly stopped flowing, you leant back away from Garret, letting his hands fall from where it had been stroking your hair. Before you had the chance to say anything to him, Garret finally spoke up.
"Don't you ever - and I mean ever - think that no one cares enough about you to be there for you when you need them. Especially me. I'm not going anywhere doll. You're my one and only baby girl and no matter what happens, I'll be there. Don't worry that you took so long to tell me, I'm just glad you were finally able to talk about it at all." Tears welled up in your eyes once more as Garret spoke, thankful that he had been so incredible as to be so caring after all you've been through.
"Your secret is safe with me." Garret flashed you a gentle and loving smile, rubbing his hand up and down your back as you mouthed a silent thank you to him.
You couldn't have imagined this conversation going any better than it had.
"Well, doll, you best get back to work. God knows you never do any real work around here." Garrets humorous tone made you break the sad atmosphere and let out a quite giggle.
"There's my baby girl." Garret was like the brother you never had, in so many ways that you could not even begin to count. You couldn't be more thankful, especially now, to have him in your life.
Wiping away any stray tears that remained on your face, you stood from Garret and turned to leave towards the depths of the store.
"Hey Garret, thank you." You sent him a genuine and wide smile. letting out yet another laugh as he blew you a kiss as you walked away. It felt so much better having that weight off your chest, and knowing that Garret still loved you the same.
————————————————————————
After speaking with Garret, one more thing checked off of your to-do list, you decided to actually try and get some work done, just like Garret had jokingly suggested. Making your way over towards housewares, as Amy had asked you to this morning, you heard Jonah shout.
"Hey, uh, Dina?"
"I'm in a hurry. If you want to talk, you have to walk with me." Dina commanded, continuing her fast paced walk as she spoke to Jonah.
"Uh, okay, this is gonna sound crazy, but, do you remember your first period? Because..." what? Why on earth would Jonah care about Dina's first period.
"February 4th, 2003. It was a Tuesday. Unseasonably warm." Dina announced, a smug smile making its way onto her face at Jonah undivided attention to what she was saying.
"Okay..." Jonah's voice wobbled as he spoke, clearly getting much more out of Dina then he was hoping to.
"So I was 19. Late bloomer, though I've more than made up for that since. My gyno says I ovulate like a champ. I drop eggs hard." You rose you eyebrow at what Dina said, recoiling slightly deeper into the isle as they came to a stand still next to you.
"All right, uh..." Jonah's words came out above a whisper, his face flushing a deep red as he made eye contact with you; clearly understanding you'd been blessed with hearing this conversation.
"You know my aunt was born with two vaginas? Yeah, she always thought it would help her date, but it didn't. She died alone. Well, she will die alone. She's still alive. She's only like 50 or something." Even though you found Dina story interesting it's not exactly what you wanted to be hearing, especially after the events of this morning (which had been strange enough themselves).
"Okay, thanks. Think I got all the information I need." Jonah said, clapping his hands together as he moved away from Dina's side, down towards where you resided further down the isle.
"God, I'm good at flirting." You heard Dina mutter to herself. what? However, her words were clearly lost on Jonah as he continued to storm towards you. Gently grabbing you by the hand, he began to pull you out of the isle and somewhere else within the store. Without having the chance to ask why, Jonah said:
"Y/n, I really need your help." ————————————————————————
Upon arriving at the toiletries isle, Jonah still held onto your hand pulling you up and down it's lengths in search of what he was looking for.
"ah I'm an 11-year-old girl. Do I like pads or tampons? Hyp... hypothetically." He asked, though to no one in particular, pulling several different brands of products off of the shelves and placing them into a stray shopping cart that stood behind the pair of you.
"Oh, hey, dudes. You want to split a pizza for lunch break?" Garret asked as he came from around the corner, looking between you and Jonah in wait of a response.
"What do you know about periods?" Jonah asked in all seriousness, completely disregarding the pizza.
"Oh, it's bleeding from the uterus that's released through the vagina. Happens every 28 days, give or take a few, depending on the lady. They all snowflakes." Garret explained, raising his eyebrows at Jonah's genuine intrigue of the topic. What was going on here?
"So was that a no for pizza?" Garret asked, ready to leave for the pizza that you oh so wanted.
"I don't think I'm hungry anymore." Jonah answered, pulling you with him towards another row of products, and away from Garret and the promise of pizza.
"Dude, you could've just asked me?" You said, pulling Jonah's attention away from the plethora of boxes and packets in front of him by the hands that still connected you both.
"Sorry y/n, my heads a bit scattered at the moment." With a deep sigh he shovelled more of the products into the cart.
"What's all this about anyway?" You asked, watching as Jonah continued to desperately shove things into the cart.
"Well, Emma-" Before Jonah could say anything more, you'd grabbed the brand of pads Amy kept at home, rushing off to the customer bathrooms. Jonah rushed after you, pushing the cart filled with tampons and pads with him.
————————————————————————
While Jonah hadn't exactly told you what had happened, you could easily put two and two together once he'd told you Emma was involved. Why he hadn't come and found you sooner was beyond you.
"Okay, Uncle Jonah's back. Gross. Please pretend I did not just call myself "Uncle Jonah."" Jonah proclaimed as he entered the customer bathrooms, his cart of pads in hand. You grimaced at his attempt of sounding cool to Emma, 'uncle Jonah' being the best he could come up with.
"Did you get something?" Emma asked, a sense of urgency in her voice. God, how long has the poor girl been stranded here.
"Yep, these are colourful. Oh! And this one has a girl playing soccer on the cover." Jonah dug through his variety of items, picking out the most eye catching and girly ones he could find.
"I just want whatever's easy to use." Emma let out a deep sigh, done with Jonah's antics and wishing anyone but him was helping her right now. God, she'd even take Glenn's help over this.
"I got to be honest, none of these really look easy to use." Jonah said, opening a box of tampons and staring in awe at the applicator.
"It's gonna be okay Emma. Can I come in?" You asked, pressing yourself up against the door of the stall so Emma could hear your hushed tone. With a sigh of relief coming from inside of the stall, you heard the door click open and Emma's face peek out from around the corner. Turing around, you gave Jonah a pointed glare, getting him to turn around as you slid through the gap in the door, and into the stall.
Once inside the stall, you locked the door behind you, turning to face Emma as she fiddled with her hands awkwardly. Breathing in a deep sigh, you began to speak:
"Listen Emma, I know I'm not your mom, but unfortunately I'm the closest you'll get to her right now. So, let's get into this." You gave Emma a weak smile, trying to show her it would be okay.
As you opened the pack of pads you'd brought into the bathroom stall with you, you heard Jonah ripping open packet after packet. What was he doing out there?
After showing Emma how to use the pad, you stepped back out of the stall, only to be met with a pad covered Jonah.
"Uh Emma, look through the crack. I'm a mummy! Ahh!" He groaned like a zombie, sticking his arms out in front of him. Though he quickly stopped his little performance when his eyes met yours; a blush covering his face as he realised you'd come out of the stall.
Before he could begin to say anything, a customer opened the door, smacking it into Jonah who was then pushed into you. You caught him, spinning him around to face the women, who was slowly backing out of the bathroom.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I'll be right out. I'm helping a little girl." Jonah rushed out, tripping over his own words as he tried to explain what she had walked in on. Despite this, the woman turned and quickly left the room, the door slamming behind her as she did.
Hands still holding Jonah up, the pair of you dissolved into a fit of laughter, him leaning deeper into you as he tried not to fall over.
As the laughter died down, Emma finally left the stall, standing nervously before the two of you.
"So are we leaving the bathroom or are we all just going to stare at each other?" Emma asked, pushing past you and Jonah as she left the bathroom. While Jonah stayed to peel off his 'costume' before he left, you rushed out in Emma's wake, catching up with her as she walked towards electronics.
After a few moments of silence shared between the two of you as you walked, Emma finally began to speak.
"For the record, it was cool of you to come and help. I'm kind of thankful it was you and not mom, she'd have probably made it into a big thing." Emma let out a nervous chuckle at her words, fiddling with her fingers as she walked. While you had always felt like a big sister figure to Emma, today it felt different, more like you'd been her big sister than just a good family friend.
"Thanks Em, I love you too." Emma let out a groan, speeding off to electronics with her arms folded across her chest. While it wasn't what she'd said, you knew her enough to know it was what she'd meant. And you meant it too. You were glad you were able to be there for Emma today, and only hoped you could continue to be there as long as she'd let you.
————————————————————————
A while after you'd caught up with Emma in electronics, Jonah had come over, finally having found you once he'd peeled himself free of pads.
For a while now you'd been sat on one of the couches on electronics, Jonah leaning over you, as you both shouted to Emma what to do.
"See that? In the back corner? You see the little family over there? Kill 'em." Jonah commanded, waving his hand in the general direction of the tv.
"Blow 'em up!" You added, pointing to the button on the control Emma would need to press in order to do so.
"Here you are. I'm sorry I was gone so long. What'd you do all day?" Amy asked, coming from the back of the store, unfortunately breaking both you and Jonah out of 'the zone.'
"Uh, we mostly played video games. It was fun." Emma replied, looking up briefly at Amy, though quickly turning back to the game before her and blowing up another family.
"Good job. Thanks for, uh, keeping an eye on her." Amy thanked, looking between you and Jonah as she spoke. Though she knew you and Jonah got on well, she couldn't have previously imagined you teaming up to look after Emma- and in any situation of the sort, she imagined you doing all the work.
"It was easy." You replied, waving your hand at Amy as to brush off her compliment. It had been easy for you: you'd only spent the last two hours or so with Emma, unsure how'd she'd ended up in Jonah's care and ready to fix the mess you'd found him in.
"She's a great kid." Jonah added, smiling across at Amy. Emma was a great kid; the best you knew by far. And it would be fair to say she was a sentiment to her mother.
"Yeah, she is." Amy awed proudly, rubbing Emma's head as she leant deeper into the couch.
"Y/n and Jonah taught me how to use a maxi pad." Emma stated bluntly, causing you to choke on the air you were breathing in. While you knew you were going to tell Amy once you got home, you didn't think Emma would be so open about it.
Taking advantage of the awkward silence you stood up, announcing your departure and that you'd be back in a while. Walking away from the group you pulled your phone out of your back pocket, thankful to finally have a free moment today.
Y/n ;) | Hey Marcus! Where can I find you <3
With an almost instant reply, you headed straight towards the break room.
————————————————————————
Upon walking into the break room, you were shocked to find it desolate - apart from the tall figure who sat, back to the door, right in front of you. Marcus.
"Hey you," you teased, acting just like he had the last time you'd spoke, in person at least. Turning away from the table and towards the counter, headed to put on the kettle.
"Oh, hey y/n, I already made some coffee." Marcus pushed a mug across the table, in front of the seat opposite him, before carefully lifting his own mug up to his lips.
A light blush covered your cheeks at the thought he'd made you coffee in advance of you being here. Only Garret had ever done that for you before, and every time he did it - even to this day - it made you feel special, and cared for. For someone to remember the little things, it made you feel important.
"Oh, wow, thank you, that's very sweet." The blush only deepened as you sat across from him, his gaze solely on you as you shuffled deep into your seat.
"So what's up? You just want to have a chat?" You asked, taking a long sip from the steaming up of coffee; it was perfect, maybe even better than perfect. It had just the right amount of milk and sugar, and filled you with comfort and warmth.
"'No, I was going to speak to you this morning, but the dead guy seemed to kill the mood." He shrugged his shoulders, taking another sip from his mug.
You let out a short laugh at his words, the old man who'd died in the store was the reason you were having to stay after your shift had ended - looking after Emma and now talking to Marcus - so you could attend the funeral you'd heard Glenn was planning. I guess you'd have to thank him for that.
"I just wanted to let you know I'm going to be out of town for a few weeks. I've got court out of state." Oh. At least he'd been kind enough to tell you in person.
"Oh Marcus, I'm so sorry. I hope everything's okay." You said, reaching across the table to hold his hand tightly in yours.
"Oh it's not big deal, my grandmas just a psycho." He said, rolling his eyes as he took another sip of his coffee, drinking the last of it as he pushed his cup away from him.
"Well, I hope everything's okay still. When will you be back?" It was strange that Marcus had thought to tell you - to you at least. To Marcus there was no one else he'd thought about telling; since he'd found out he had to leave, all he could think about was if you'd forget him by the time he was finished.
"Um, I'm not sure, maybe four weeks from now if I had to guess. My grandmas not going to make this easy on me." You let out another small laugh, despite him having to go to court, it sounded like a trivial matter, and that he'd be back home sooner than he thought.
"Well, I can't wait for you to come back." Marcus's eyes lit up at your words, though it went unnoticed to you as you stared into the cup of coffee, taking a long sip to fill you with much needed energy and warmth.
"Me either." Marcus flashed you a charming smile, his eyes meeting yours from over the brim of your mug. A comfortable silence fell over the two of you, and the rest of the break room, your hands still connected in the middle of the table.
With few words of small talk shared, the silence was eventually broken by Mateo sticking his head through the door of the break room.
"Guys, it's funeral time." Mateo announced, rushing off as soon as he'd finished in order to round as many people up as possible to attend Glenn's impromptu funeral.
Reluctantly letting go of Marcus's hand, you stood from your chair, pouring what remained of your coffee down the sink as you made your way towards the break room door.
"I'll see you around Marcus." With that you left the break room, catching up to Mateo who was headed out of the back of the store and towards the parking lot.
————————————————————————
"Thank you all for gathering to help me honour and remember Charles Maynard Rand." You linked arms with Mateo, leaning into him and the warmth he provided as you stood around the fancy couch.
"Why do we have to destroy the couch?" Cheyenne whined from the other side of Mateo, upset she'd spent her day fighting for the couch for nothing.
"Well, for one thing, it's a wonderful way to memorialize a man." Glenn suggested, looking longing at the couch that was behind him. Todays events had really effected him huh.
"Plus, I looked up the store policy. If a death occurs on any display furniture, it has to be destroyed. Who knew?" Dina shrugged, standing with her arms crossed beside Amy.
"I knew. Same thing happened at the Kirkwood store a few months ago." An offended gasp came from Mateo; he'd told you how Garret had been monitoring his and Cheyenne's competition for the couch, so to find this out felt like a big betrayal.
"Jonah?" Glenn asked, breaking Jonah out of a daze.
"Right." Jonah's words sounded far away, even though he'd only stood a few feet away from you. Walking quickly towards the couch, he lit it on fire, it soon taking.
"We didn't know Charles, but he chose to spend the last few moments of his life with us. Charles, may your soul or non-denominational life force, I guess, be lifted by the non-gender-specific arms of a loving entity or non-entity..." As Glenn tried to avoid turning this into a religious event, the couch behind him started to become engulfed in flames.
"Hey. Just once. Knock yourself out." Dina said, Glenn's face lighting up at the opportunity he'd been given.
"Jesus Christ! The hands of Jesus Christ, who saves us from our sins. With his precious blood, and welcomes us as little lambs..." As Glenn spouted out his religious words you couldn't help but worry as the ablaze couch continued to burn wildly.
"Is is meant to be burning like that?" You asked Jonah, walking closer to him and Garret, leaning into his side as you had dispersed into little groups to talk.
"How much gas you put on that thing?" Garret asked in shock, the couch completely engulfed in fire now.
"None, and that fabric is supposed to be fire-retardant." Jonah took in a sharp breath as he spoke, worried about the other furniture in the store if the fire-retardant one reacted like this.
"We give you the love, and we take away the evil! Amen! What a day! Okay, uh. God bless us all, and let's get out of here." Glenn finished his mini sermon, taking in a gasp of breath to refill his lungs after his long spiel.
Jonah moved his arm around your shoulders as the three of you walked away from the burning couch, towards the front of the store, wherein you'd wait for Amy. Today had been a long and hard day; but people like Jonah and Garret made everything feel so much easier.

Hey guys! Bit of a longer part this week, but next weeks will probably be a bit shorter to counteract that. I hope you enjoyed! Please let me know what you think and how I can make this series better.
A few of you picked up on the little crush Jonah has on y/n and though I didn't intend it, it sure has began to make its way into the story - and is a storyline I'm definitely going to divulge into a little bit :)
Have a lovely week <3

The 4 Times You Knew Garrett Was In Love With You And The One Time He Said It.
Garrett McNeill x Reader
"seeing as you're doing garrett x reader requests ..... any chance i could get a "watching garrett fall in love with you" one shot????"
Requested by @emobabeyy <3
It started with the cute nicknames. He'd called you 'Doll' in his usual, teasing tone - but something about it felt different that time. Maybe it was the way his gaze lingered on you for a moment too long, or the way he laughed and looked away from you when you asked him if you had something on your face.
Whatever it was, it was different, new, but a welcome change all the same.
The nicknames didn't stop after that - not that they'd ever gone in the first place, Garret having called you 'pretty girl' the first time he met you. Not that you'd want them to stop - they were sweet, endearing and made you feel special.
You never noticed him calling anyone else the sweet names that seemed to be reserved just for you, and it made your heart beat faster and your cheeks grow warm each time he used one.
Unfortunately, you weren't sure if you'd ever get over them.
However, you were sure that Garret liked you, had a crush on you, whatever you wanted to call it. And your thoughts were only confirmed as Jonah cornered you in the break room one day, telling you in hushed whispers how Garret would not stop gushing about you.
——————————————————————
Then it was the random acts of kindness. He’d make your coffee for you; a fresh, steaming cup of the liquid, and just the way you liked it too, would be sat in front of the seat next to his in the break room each morning.
If he went out of the store to buy his lunch, he’d bring back something for you. Meatballs from his favourite Italian place, a cupcake from that cute, little bakery Jonah forced him to go to, a sandwich from a store that wasn’t cloud 9.
When he got snacks from the vending machine, he accidentally put in the wrong numbers, your favourite snack falling out, so he just had to give it to you instead.
How he always seemed to have plasters tucked away in his pocket for when you inevitably gave yourself a paper-cut, or tripped over a stack of boxes (or your own feet) and grazed your hands and knees.
Of course, you thanked him profusely, and always offered to pay him back, to do it for him next time, but you were always met with a refusal - that he didn’t expect anything in return, he was just thinking of you.
——————————————————————
Next came the touching, no matter when or where you were.
In the break room, knees touching beneath the table, a warm mug of coffee that he had made you that you took occasional sips from in between your hands. His hand falling to rest over the back of your chair, subconsciously pulling you into his side, or, resting gently on your near-connected knees rubbing small circles into the flesh.
Leaning against the customer service counter, Garrets hand fiddling with the zips of your jacket or a loose thread on your top. His hand fiddling with the material and carefully avoiding brushing against the skin of your stomach or wrist - wherever he had decided to mess about that time.
His hand on your lower back as he escorted you across the car park when it was late, dark or when his hand rested on your thigh as he drove you home; claiming walking or waiting for the bus was too dangerous so late at night.
You relished in the closeness, though you wouldn’t admit it, and you knew even more so that Garret was falling for you.
——————————————————————
Your favourite thing by far thought was how he wanted you to share in the little delights of the day.
Seen a cute dog come into the store? Damn right you’re getting a photo. New song he’s listened to? You’re getting a recommendation or he’s giving you one of his headphones. Free donut holes in the store cafe? He’s stealing more then a handful for you to split.
No matter what it was - big or small - Garret wanted you to enjoy it just as much as he did. And the thought of his actions alone were enough to realise, after all, you were falling for him as much (if not more) then he seemed to be falling for you.
——————————————————————
After months and months of Garrets sweet, sweet actions you knew for sure how he felt about you - but weren’t sure you could say the same.
You’d tried to show Garret how you felt, never having the confidence to tell him outright, but it never seemed to come across clear enough for him.
Or so you thought.
It was as normal of a morning as it could’ve been: you trudged through the store and into the break room, where a fresh cup of coffee sat waiting for you next to a brown paper bag. Garret flashed you a bright smile, his toothy grin bringing one onto your own face.
As you slouched down into the chair next to him, you gently brought the brown paper bag towards you, peeking inside to find a still-warm croissant from the bakery between Garrets place and the store. One of your favourites. You pulled the delicious pastry out of the bag, taking a big bite and washing it down with the sweet, warm coffee.
“Thank you Gare.” You whispered, as always, enjoying the sweet treat, though not as much as his presence.
“Of course doll, you know it’s no issue.”
“I don’t thank you enough as I should though.” You muttered back, continuing your explanation as Garrets eyebrows scrunched together in confusion. “You’re so good to me - too good to me - and I should thank you more. ‘Cause you really are the best Gare and, you know-“
“I know doll. Me too.”

Also I’m posting this from my phone 😬 so I can’t put a keep reading thing because tumblr hates mobile users, so sorry about that and I will add it ASAP.
