FBI seizes retired general's data related to Qatar lobbying
FBI seizes retired general’s data related to Qatar lobbying
The FBI has seized the electronic data of a retired four-star general who authorities say made false statements and withheld “incriminating” documents about his role in an illegal foreign lobbying campaign on behalf of the wealthy Persian Gulf nation of Qatar. New federal court filings obtained Tuesday outlined a potential criminal case against former Marine Gen. John R. Allen, who led U.S. and…

12 May 2022: Jordan’s relationship with the United States is institutional and one of the strongest in the region, because it is based on trust, King Abdullah II said in an interview with H.R. McMaster in Washington, DC, for the Battlegrounds series by Stanford University’s Hoover Institution.
“My father met Eisenhower as his first presidential contact, and this is an institutional relationship, not only with consecutive administrations, but with the military and the Congress, and it is a very strong one, I think it is probably one of the strongest in the region, especially based on trust,” King Abdullah said in the interview, which was recorded last week and released Wednesday on the Hoover Institution’s platforms. In his interview with Battlegrounds, a programme that features interviews with world leaders on their views on issues of relevance to US foreign policy, His Majesty said Jordan lives in a difficult region, and time has shown that Jordanians and Americans stand shoulder to shoulder in the face of different conflict zones. (Source: Petra)
Answering a question on regional violence and wars, the King said all regional stakeholders currently seek to look at the glass half full moving forward. His Majesty pointed to challenges in Yemen, concern over the humanitarian disaster in Lebanon, in addition to two years of the COVID pandemic, and the re-emergence of Daesh in Syria, Iraq, and Africa. The King said his visit to the United States was aimed at coordinating with friends and planning tactically and strategically for 2022. On his vision for joint Arab action, Jordan’s role in the region, and the importance of isolating and countering terrorist groups, His Majesty stressed that there has always been joint Arab action and coordination against the threats of Daesh. The King highlighted the importance of following a holistic approach to address various challenges at the same time, pointing to the role of Aqaba Process meetings, and expanding their scope to include South American and Latin American countries. His Majesty added that he engages with Arab leaders in discussions on how countries in the region can find solutions for their own problems, and “do the heavy lifting”, instead of seeking solutions from the United States, noting that several meetings were held over the past months to discuss charting a new vision for the region. “So you will see Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Iraq, Egypt, and some of the other Gulf countries really coming together to tie in and chart a vision for their peoples and have that coordination” before requesting any help, the King added. But His Majesty said he has consistently warned American presidents that they ignore the Middle East “at their own peril”, and therefore the Palestinian issue must be resolved. “No matter what relations Arab countries have with Israel, if we don’t solve the Palestinian issue, it is really two steps forward and two steps back,” the King stressed. Responding to a question on the relations between the UAE and the US, the King called for understanding the nature of ties between the two countries. “I think the Emiratis are being put unfairly into a box… Again, this is a nation that has spent 30 years in six campaigns fighting side-by-side with the United States,” His Majesty said, adding “this is a very capable, wealthy country that has investments all over the world.” Answering a question on dealing with Iran, the King cited diplomatic efforts from some Arab countries to communicate with Tehran, adding, “we want everybody to be part of a new Middle East and to move forward, but we do have security challenges”. His Majesty noted that the presence of the Russians in the south of Syria was a source of calm. “That vacuum will be filled by the Iranians and their proxies, so, unfortunately, we are looking at maybe an escalation of problems on our borders,” the King said.

It's a matter of historical record that former National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster was the 3ACR Commander for the Tal Afar deployment. He's very loosely depicted here - please don't sue, Sir. I have no idea who the Regimental CSM was - and neither does ANYONE - ZING! I do have a more positive, or at least ambiguous, depiction of a Sergeant Major coming up in ... two stories from now. One short one, then that one.

To know him is to loathe him.
Tumblr media
January 25, 2024
Donald Trump loves nothing better than to insult, mock and otherwise attack his perceived enemies. Whether it's Democrats, the media, judges, prosecutors, the "deep state" or any of a host of others, he delights in blathering endlessly and annoyingly about his plans to wreak vengeance upon them.
But these are not the enemies Trump should be worrying about. On the contrary, the biggest threat to the traitorous career criminal are the people he once hired to work for him, who know him best, and have come to recognize him for the dangerous narcissistic sociopath he is. Consider these examples.
Former defense secretary Mark Esper: “He puts himself before country. His actions are all about him and not about the country.”
Former chief of staff and national security advisor General John Kelly: "He is the most flawed person I know. The depths of his dishonesty are astounding.”
General James Mattis, Trump's first defense secretary: "He is more dangerous than anyone could ever imagine.”
Another national security advisor, John Bolton: "He’s not fit to be president.”
Trump's second attorney general, Bill Barr: “Our country can't be a therapy session for a troubled man.”
General H.R. McMaster, yet another national security advisor: “President Trump [has] repeatedly compromised our principles in pursuit of partisan advantage and personal gain.”
Former assistant to Trump's chief of staff, Cassidy Hutchinson: “Clearly an irrational man.”
Former secretary of state Mike Pompeo: “We can’t be following celebrity leaders with fragile egos who refuse to acknowledge reality.”
Alyssa Farah Griffin, former White House Director of Strategic Communications: “A second Trump term could mean the end of American democracy as we know it.”
Plus, of course, Trump's own VP, Mike Pence: “Anyone who puts himself over the Constitution should never be president of the United States."
And this is only a partial list of those who have spoken out against the disgraced ex-president. Others include his former attorney and fixer, Michael Cohen; his one-time secretary of state, Rex Tillerson; his secretary of education, Betsy DeVos; his secretary of labor, Elaine Chao; his transition manager, Chris Christie; his former communications director Anthony Scaramucci, and so many more that we risk running out of room.
Not only do his one-time friends invariably become two-timing foes, they also present the most danger to Trump personally. Because it's the testimony of people like these that could put him behind bars for the rest of his life. Which would be good news for the rest of us who also despise him.

The Adults Are Not In This Room!
Back in the early days of Trump’s administration, there were a few who we referred to as “the adults in the room”, such as Dan Coats, Rex Tillerson, James Mattis, H.R. McMaster and a few others, whom we hoped would keep the Trump circus train from going completely off the rails.  None of them lasted long in the toxic environment … they either threw up their hands in frustration and left, else…

Tabloid Ilta-Sanomat (siirryt toiseen palveluun) covered Finnish President Sauli Niinistö's attendance at a security policy conference hosted by Stanford University. The president's appearance at the San Francisco Bay area event on Tuesday was part of his five-day tour to the US.
Former US National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster opened the panel by saying that Finland brought "clarity" in terms of policy against Russia. McMaster questioned Niinistö how the West can protect their democracies against hybrid attacks from actors like China and Russia.
"We have to have public-private cooperation here [on security]," the Finnish President responded.
The panel also questioned Niinistö on his perception of Russia and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Finnish President noted that Putin's character has changed since Russia invaded Ukraine a year ago.
"The sense of disappointment in his speeches has turned to frustration and even anger," he responded.
Niinistö went on to point out that while Finland is wary of its neighbour, the country is prepared.
"The Finnish Defence Forces are equivalent in size to Germany, which has 14 times the population of Finland," Niinistö said, illustrating the breadth of Finland's defence.
Despite the gravity of the topics, Niinistö's humour was still on full display, remarking that relations between Finland and Russia were unlikely to improve during his presidency — which ends in 2024.
Hungarians MPs visit Helsinki
A visiting delegation of Hungarian MPs headed to Finland on Wednesday to discuss the fate of Finland and Sweden's Nato membership, Helsingin Sanomat (siirryt toiseen palveluun) reported.
Hungary and Turkey are the only Nato members which have not yet approved the Nordic countries' bids into the defence alliance. According to HS the visit could expediate Hungary's decision on the matter.
The Nato debate began last week in the Hungarian Parliament with a vote expected at the end of the month.
The delegation's leader is Csaba Hende, Deputy Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament and a member of Prime Minister Viktor Orban's ruling Fidesz party. On Tuesday during a visit to Sweden he said the majority of Hungarian MPs support Sweden's Nato application.
Members of the Hungarian delegation are scheduled to spend Wednesday meeting with Finnish MPs to discuss Finland's Nato application.
Discounted customer service
Tabloid Iltalehti (siirryt toiseen palveluun) reported that the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (Traficom) sought to hire workers in Spain to fill customer service jobs.
IL reported that a recently closed job advertisement in Spain requested two vehicle tax customer service representatives, offering a monthly salary of 1,224 euros.
However, with an expected 39-hour workweek, the salary is significantly lower than it would be in Finland, where the service workers' union PAM's collective agreement calls for payment of at least 9.74 euros an hour.
Traficom started using Finland-based staff recruitment firm Barona to help fill customer service jobs in 2019.
Marianne Eliasson, Barona's operations director in Spain, explained that the local collective agreement for the contact centre sector states that the salary paid to employees in Spain is around 50 percent of the salary in Finland.
Eliasson said that in this particular round of applications, around 30 people applied for the post, of whom around 20 percent were Finns already living in Spain. The rest were people living in Finland.
The Head of Traficom's Tax Services Unit, Mikko Helminen, supported the move saying that it was fully in compliance.
"This procurement was put out to tender in accordance with EU rules, and we chose the most economically advantageous option," Helminen said.

It’s funny we don’t really seem to be too concerned with classified information ever since Biden was caught with a few.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/trump-revealed-highly-classified-information-to-russian-foreign-minister-and-ambassador/2017/05/15/530c172a-3960-11e7-9e48-c4f199710b69_story.html
It’s funny we don’t really seem to be too concerned with classified information ever since Biden was caught with a few. Which President was it again that promised Russia more flexibility after his election?
According to this article Presidents have board authority when declassifying government information. Does that same apply to a Senator or Vice President?
This is prior to the Ukraine / Russia war and appears to be an olive branch about concern with terrorism. White House officials even confirmed that no intelligence sources, military operations or methods were discussed.
It’s funny no one want to questions Biden trying to build a better relationship with China but Trump gets criticized for trying to build a better relationship with Russia.
Direct Quote:
President Trump revealed highly classified information to the Russian foreign minister and ambassador in a White House meeting last week, according to current and former U.S. officials, who said Trump’s disclosures jeopardized a critical source of intelligence on the Islamic State.
For almost anyone in government, discussing such matters with an adversary would be illegal. As president, Trump has broad authority to declassify government secrets, making it unlikely that his disclosures broke the law.
White House officials involved in the meeting said Trump discussed only shared concerns about terrorism.
“The president and the foreign minister reviewed common threats from terrorist organizations to include threats to aviation,” said H.R. McMaster, the national security adviser, who participated in the meeting. “At no time were any intelligence sources or methods discussed, and no military operations were disclosed that were not already known publicly.”
White House officials defended Trump. “This story is false,” said Dina Powell, deputy national security adviser for strategy. “The president only discussed the common threats that both countries faced.”
The president also “raised Ukraine” and “emphasized his desire to build a better relationship between the United States and Russia.”

The insecurity among the Republican ranks to expose anti-Trump elements is not new. While they took action against Liz Cheney for her anti-Trump remarks in the post-Trump era, they did it with several officers of the bureaucracy and other Republicans with the help of Project Veritas, a conservatism group that exposed the central figures of conservatism. Project Veritas is a right-wing group that aims to expose anti-conservative voices. The recent reports of the New York Times suggest that the group conducted sting operations against FBI officials and officers of the Trump government.  The acts portray the sense of distrust that President Donald Trump had on his team during his presidency. How did Project Veritas try to expose anti-Trump elements during Trump’s tenure? Let’s see. Below the Belt Attacks by Project Veritas A group of activists driven by conservatism constitutes the Project Veritas. The group is backed by a former British spy, who led the efforts to expose the so-called enemies of Donald Trump within the government during his presidency. The project was involved in a series of sting operations against the former national security advisor, H.R. McMaster, and other FBI staff. The primary motive was to see if people working within the government have anti-Trump sentiments or not. Project Veritas used various tactics in which female agents of the projects dated the FBI staff just to record them while talking poorly of Donald Trump. Solid Backing: Sting Operations Were not Possible Without White House Support Obviously, there is no use in arranging these operations without governmental support in the first place. It implies that the Trump government funded the project for finding the so-called defectors working within the government. These revelations against  Project Veritas also show the autocratic ambitions of the Trump administration, which aimed to silence all the anti-Trump voices within the government. These efforts of Project Veritas are a smaller part of the whole picture, where Donald Trump himself censured people who went against him during the last part of his presidency. Richard Seddon was the central figure of the whole scenario, as he started his pro-Trump agenda in 2016 and continued until mid-2018. During this period, he led many episodes, including infiltrating the Democratic Congressional campaigns and trade unions to find his targets. When the New York Times reported the activities of Richard Seddon last year in training the staff for conducting the operations, this was the time that authorities should have scrutinized him for the wrongdoings. Failure to do that delayed the investigations against him. These latest reports also suggest how an organization used to conduct operations against Democratic politicians, news organizations, and advocacy groups turned against the government officials themselves. The relation between Project Veritas and the White House is still unclear; however, one of the project workers, Barbara Ledeen, said that she was in contact with someone “with access to McMaster’s calendar.” This statement indicates the involvement of the White House members in the operations, as having access to the national security advisor’s calendar is not everyone’s business. The group ended its activities in mid-2018 when it succeeded in obtaining the information it wanted, resulting in McMaster’s resignation. Final Thoughts Although Project Veritas denied the allegations of investigating “Trump enemies,” only a proper investigation will yield the truth against the project. James O’Keefe, the head of Project Veritas, said,    “Because The New York Times is losing to Project Veritas in a court of law, it is trying to smear Project Veritas in the court of public opinion.” (James O’Keefe)   Seeing the track record of the Trump administration for scolding the anti-Trump elements, everything can be expected from them.
Trump was the person who used Qanon and Proud Boys for his personal gains, so the possibility of exploiting Project Veritas also remains high.  If the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) director can be fired, the US attorney general can be forced to resign, the Supreme Court justices can be censured, the patience of the national security advisor can also be tested, which seems to be the case in this episode. All of the events also depict the priorities of the Trump administration, which wasted four years exposing people who did not comply with their agenda.
