As it Was

Harry released the song and video on April 1 2022, the morning after the 10 year anniversary of Harry meeting Taylor Swift. It was written with Love of My Life. While he described it as bunch of people dancing to your most devastating experience, I think he has taken it as a reflection point and decided to Shoot his Shot.

Music Video

In the open Harry is behind glass, he tries to move on with others but can't. In the Zane Lowe Interview Harry talked about One Direction band being a unit and reflected on solo peers (Taylor) not having that support. He said "everyone else is on the other side of the glass and I am on this side of the glass, no one really gets it, having that is priceless." When Harry leaves he references the Delicate music video

Harry is pulled back by gravity to be behind the glass again. To me this is similar to Anti-hero, no one else can relate.

This dance then tells the story of him dating Taylor, it references this expressionist dance. They first hold hands briefly (May 2012 - January 2013, Red) They come back and walk together, his arm around her but looking ahead, not at her (from September 2013 (1989) to February 2015). She moves on because he wasn't looking at her. Harry and his muse wear Red (Red) and Blue (1989) to represent the eras they first dated in.

She leaves him and he stops, frozen at that point while she walks on without him (from February 2015, Harry Styles Debut, Exile) until they embrace tenderly and he looks deeply and lovingly at her. (February/April 2016 Reputation, I'm not happy)

But he turns away, she is in great pain and now she is stuck and can't move without him (from May 2016 Reputation). He comes back and embraces her in a supportive caring way and it looks like he encourages her to go on, which she does in late 2016/2017.

For a short time they both walk confidently then they are both stuck on the past, neither able to move and not together in 2017-Early 2018. Then they have a wild embrace in late 2018. (Lover and Fine Line) She falls off the turntable after the affair. The cycle is broken.

Then they go the pool area and take their clothes off alone, apart and with others. Taylor is higher than him, to me indicating more success, I think this is 2019. In 2020, they embrace and go to this colourful world where there is no one else and hold out their arms to hold on tight. (COVID / Folklore / HH) Other people come in, (I think this is Joe and OW, the chairs are a reference to R & C Eames), separated again, the world is black and white.

And then they are back in the turntable / their old cycle again. She is walking confidently without him, he reaches out, tries running and stumbles trying to catch up. (Evermore, Renegade) For a time they both walk alone, but then she disappears. In the bridge, in 2021, (the part with leave America) he is devastated, alone and is defeated.

Then he gets up and joyously dances into the future. (Harry's House) This sequence again references Delicate and has seagulls, referencing 1989. With a smile he goes through a gate. He spoke to Zane Lowe as going through a one way portal of realisation.

Charles and Ray Eames

The chairs are a reference to Charles and Ray Eames, who took a photo like this. Charles and Ray were creatives who had a highly productive marriage that shaped 20th century design. A reference to Harry’s desire for a creative romantic partnership.

Harry told Hits Radio As it was was written at the end, Love of My Life was in the same session. He said it about metamorphosis or perspective change. Saying you get to decide if it is devastating or great and accept it is probably both.

When Zane Lowe asked what Harry was going through Harry talked about the journey of his Pandemic experience having 4 parts.

Lyrics

"Come on Harry, we want to say good night to you"

This sample is his goddaughter, Ben Winston's 5 year old. It speaks to the meaning of the song about the difference between Harry's life and goals and calls back to the time Harry met Taylor when he was staying in Ben's house.

The Lyric video also shows Harry playing piano with a child, I think Tyler's son. Who is referenced in Canyon Moon which is similar. Where Harry compares his famous person life to the settled family life Tyler has and asking a wistful what if he had made a choice to stay in LA with Taylor. To me the Lyric video is reminding of that life, asking if he can or will have that life, or what it would look like.

In the opening verse, Harry is stuck on the past, he cannot replace Taylor because she is unique. He refers to common themes she has said to him, particularly on 1989 - saying he is the one that does those things but she did not - it's a crushing open.

Harry often talks or shows Taylor as in the clouds or sky. (Golden "So you wait for me in the sky" and in the LNT video) Here he is asking her to hold out her hand to help him get there, which is different, he often talks about 'waiting' or 'one day'.

Taylors asked him to hold out his hand many times in song:

Blank Space: "Grab your passport and my hand"

I Know Places: "Just grab my hand and don’t ever drop it"

New Romantics: "Please take my hand and please take me dancing", and

Willow "I'm begging for you to take my hand"

Taylor has also asked him to Stay, including on 1989's track 5:

Harry has a "Can I stay?" Tattoo in October 2013 after that song, which Taylor wrote 10 January 2013.

Treacherous: "I hear the sound of my own voice asking you to stay"

Renegade "There was nowhere for me to stay, but I stayed anyway."

Delicate: "Stay here, honey, I don’t wanna share"

New Year’s Day: "But I stay when you’re lost and I’m scared and you’re turning away"

The Archer: "Who could stay, you could stay"

Right Where You Left Me: "Everybody moved on, I stayed there"

"It's just us" is being separated from other people by celebrity. Similar to Taylor's Coney Island, (written in a shortly beforehand) "If I can't relate to you anymore / Then who am I related to?" Harry and Taylor have a long shared history, similar experience of celebrity.

'You know it's not the same' is referring to the realization that things have changed and they need to move forward. To me the 'not the same' has layers:

They are no longer the young pop stars in Slut!, Suburban Legends or I know places. Earlier on the record, in Sushi Harry also addresses this "I don't want you to go broke / I won't go broke." They and their fans have matured, he is saying that it won't be as hard as in 2014 and they could now be together.

Their relationship is no longer as it was, in the video Harry shows them being 'built to fall apart and back together' and "when we go crashing down we come back every time' (OOTW/Style). They are older their dynamic had changed and I think he now wants more.

Answer the phone "Harry, you're no good alone Why are you sittin' at home on the floor? What kind of pills are you on?" Ringin' the bell And nobody's comin' to help Your daddy lives by himself He just wants to know that you're well, oh

This verse shows Harry alone in a literal and psychological sense. He wishes he was with Taylor. He is alone and his family are worried for his wellbeing and safety.

Go home, get ahead, light-speed internet I don't wanna talk about the way that it was Leave America, two kids follow her I don't wanna talk about who's doin' it first

To me, the leave America line is about Harry finding himself part of a blended family with teens, with a partner he didn't know 6 months earlier. This is pulling him away from his single celebrity life and future expectation Taylor was End Game / Someday.

Much focus is given to that line, but to me "I don't wanna talk about who's doing it first" is equally impactful. It speaks of a sad frustration with the state rather than joyful beginning.

It sounds like being competitive in personal relationships in your late 20's and managing a public narrative with a personal relationship. Hence the sadness here in the film clip.

"Leave America" is his partner leaving a 'Home' rather than going toward one. Home being intertwined with love and commitment in Harry's songs. Looping back to the "Come on Harry..'" sample and lyric video, this 'leave America' is not the life he wants.

In this part of the video Harry dances off into the future. In the bridge Harry saw a path that was not what he wants.

Knowing it is the last song written leaves me suspensed for HS4! Harry is purposeful in his track listing and placed As it Was toward the beginning, between Grapejuice and Daylight. I take that to mean Harry has chosen to pursue the life he wants and to Shoot his Shot.

HEADCANONS –

Zarina’s pixie dust alchemy has combined with human chemistry upon getting trapped in Evermore. What she’s been focused on as of late is trying to find a way to create more pixie dust, whether synthetic or pure. Maybe even blue pixie dust! She only has so much left of her supply from Pixie Hollow… but she’ll be damned to let her passion trickle out when she’s come so far.

Most fairies have their reservations of the ocean to some degree, other large bodies of water included. Zarina wasn’t any different. Wet wings made for a downed fairy, and in extreme conditions the loss of their wings entirely. But of course, Zarina being Zarina, she had her curiosities about the sea. She daydreamed about what all could be dwelling in such intense, expanse oceans and trenches. Mermaids. Monsters. Magic? Maybe. Eventually the water grew on her after running away from Pixie Hollow and spending so much time on ships and boats. Now she seeks it out when in need of peace or inspiration.

Zarina has always been very independent and more than comfortable with her own company. However, her severe trust issues and growing loneliness are at a constant war inside her mind. Not to mention that she’s always in survival mode. The other fairies seem to have grown accustomed to Evermore, getting cozy and building a life. Zarina doesn’t really have that luxury. Stealing things just to get by typically burns bridges before she can build them. She’s learned to keep her talents to herself since people have only ever used her or thrown her to the curb because of them.

Did you know crows bring “gifts” to people who share morsels of food and kindness with them? Zarina does. Crows are misunderstood creatures, just like her. They’re also probably the purest friends she currently has. Zarina regularly feeds the crows that loiter outside of her very small apartment. Occasionally they bring her gifts. “little treasures” as she prefers to call them. Dropped coins, lost earrings, small pebbles, etc. She keeps the more interesting items in a little box under her bed. One time a crow even brought her a one-hundred dollar bill… that was a really good week for her.

Zarina often adds little braids into her hard-to-tame lion’s mane. Sometimes she even weaves in little feathers, charms, hair cuffs or whatever else catches her fancy. Scarves and bandanas are also very common. But beware: if Zarina asks to borrow a hair tie, you’re not getting it back. More than likely she’ll accidentally snap it before you remember to ask for it back. Be gentle with her though, it’s not her fault. Blame her hair.

This girl is super crafty and creative in more ways than one. In the traditional sense, Zarina without fail customizes and personalizes a lotttt of her things. Her favorite is her lab coat and smock. Whenever she has free time, Zarina will add some scrappy embroidery to the fabric or glue sea glass to the edges. In the less traditional sense, while she hates all of their guts, she learned a lot from the crew that betrayed her. Pickpocketing, sneaking around, resourcefulness, fashioning a good lie and even knowing how to work a knife. Well, sort of. She has surprisingly great aim.

Zarina is a big tea girl. Earl Grey is her favorite, but she loves coffee, too. Like many other people, she'll turn to flavored, espresso based drinks when she's looking for an extra kick of caffeine as long as they're not too sweet. Zarina isn't a huge fan of sweet coffee, but she always munches on candy when working in her little makeshift lab. When it comes to alcohol, Z bounces around between rum and cokes, whiskey and bourbon. It's also not uncommon finding her turning to weed when she's stressed or her brain won't shut off.

OHH sorry for the late reply i wanted to answer this when i got on pc cos i knew i’d have a LOT to say

So as far as ovw memories, idk if u mean personal or esports so I’m doing BOTH, with esports first:1. Libero’s hack on Evermore right out the gate on Hanamura. It was the first time I’d seen Sombra in pro play and it SHOOK me to my core seeing her be played AND so well!!2. Zunba’s grav through the window on Eichenwalde. Shit’s legendary. It was one of the first games I’d ever seen since I had just gotten into ovw esports and the High seeing that play gave me made me love esports ever since3. Surefour’s bait from spawn. Fucking iconic. chef kiss. one of the best moments from last season.4. That one game, shortly after Aero became head coach where Mickie was on Winston and Seagull was on D.Va vs NYXL. I love that game so much i need to rewatch it I loved watching them.5. Shanghai’s first victory. A bitch might have cried. I’m not as huge of a fan as many other are on here, but I recognize hard work and Shanghai has been doing their absolute best from the get go. I’m so happy for them.

and now for personal:1. One time, my friend Griffin, my ex, and I all played against Sylphea (at the time she was the highest level player in ovw) and that was REALLY fun. Griffin was on Mei, and he just. fucked them UP, even getting potg. We also had a solid McCree, and I had fun on sym :)2. I used to do widow custom games with friends (mostly 1v1s w phil) but we had a huge boss fight with Griffin, where it was 5 of us against him, and he STILL whooped us. He was such a wicked good widow it’s crazy.3. Before the mercy 2.0 meta, Sombra was my most played hero, because she’s so much fun. I played w friends who liked having a sombra on their team, too so that worked out Nicely. I love playing Sombra4. Back when Comp could get to five rounds on koth, I switched to Bastion on round three, and Griffin was on Ana, and we managed to win with nano tank alone. Three fucking rounds in a row i only died once.5. One comp game I had 23 players rezzed with 3 five man rezzes. We still lost but like holy fuck that was fun. 6. Idk if it’s still in the game, but there was a glitch with mercy’s wings where if she said hello with her gun out and angelic descent was active, her wings would get REALLY big. Griffin and I spent like 2 hours one night just fuckin messin w it it was so fun7. honestly… late night qp w griffin was rly good. nothin like tryharding in overwatch till 5am… i miss that

And… when it comes to playing… yeah I definitely enjoy the game less. I used to have a bunch of people I played with, different groups, different needs, so it was really fun when I was really social, but I broke up w my ex, I lost contact with others, and many just don’t play overwatch anymore. Now its rare I’m in anything bigger than a duoq. I spent most of my time in game w Griffin, and when we stopped playing together I had to relearn the game and how I tracked things because we had our Way of playing. I’m still highly invested in the game, hence having and Overwatch League sideblog. I still really love the game, and I don’t think that’s going to change even I don’t play it nearly as much as I used to.

The current meta… is still GOATS right? I havent seen any of stage 2 (im a fake fan who been BUSY) so idk how baptiste has changed anything. But I hate GOATS. I remember disliking triple tank and playing it but GOATS isnt even… fun to watch. I like zen and lucio play, but my fave supports to see are moira and ana. and I love myself a good zarya but Man. Tone it Down.

And as far as favorite meta? Hard to say. I definitely played the most during the mercy meta, and I love watching good mercy play… but I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite to watch. I’d probably go out on a limb and say dive. Dive or Triple tank. Dive could get real creative, but nothin smacks my ass quite like a good ol fashioned deathball comp. There’s pros and cons to every meta, and I have fun with all of it, because overwatch is a Fun Game. Even GOATS has its moments, especially the ways teams try to shut each other down.

And as far as new hero… I’m not sure. Still Tank/Support cos we still have too many dps, but… idk. I really like hybrid heroes, and I’d like another Support/Tank hybrid, but utility heavy heroes are deffo always on my list. But that aside… where the black women at, Jeff? I wanna play as one.

Sorry this is so long, but ty for asking!! I love overwatch so so much It’s so weird to think it’s been with me for almost three years.
