Happy Homewarming everybody!
what do you mean it's March no it's not it's still desperately cold out and-
Anyways! Happy WH update everyone, if you checked out the Wish Book, you saw a few things I got to make for the update! :D These were so much fun to make and I'm so glad it seems like everyone has been really enjoying the update, getting to make props for this project has been amazing and I adore working with the whole crew!
I made Eddie Dear's toy set bag, cut & sew Frank & Wally plushies, and the big Welcome Home tree skirt! (Design collaborated with Echo to get everything to look just right!)
(fun goofy fact: I used a Lost Origins ETB to help stand the mail bag up because I couldn't find anything better than a pokemon tcg box lol)

This is big spoilers for the commercials in the Awayfrompryingeyes website on the Welcome Home site.
I've been saying since DAY 1 that Eddie Dear was going to be one of the most important Neighbors to pay attention too, aside from Julie, Frank, and Sally. And this update just practically confirmed it, I had this long running suspicion about Eddie Dear, and it's that I think he was one of the first besides Wally to gain sentience in a way.
I know most people believe Wally was the one who "woke" up first essentially and was able to see the reality of what they were actually living in, but I think Eddie Dear was the first of Wally's friends to actually wake up. My reasoning for this is that Eddie's "backstory" on the neighborhood page is so vague and strange compared to the other neighbors. He's the ONLY one who doesn't remember where he came from, and we see routinely throughout these updates that he's kind of the odd man out a lot of the times.
And that's not totally unusual for a kids show, but there's something about Eddie that just points to him being a lot different from the other puppets. Like that he's also the only one who's able to actually tell what time it is, as he's the only neighbor with a real watch.
And he really REALLY wants to fit so badly into the world of Welcome Home that he sticks to his job as a mailman as much as he can. But even looking at his interactions with the others, you can tell he's not quite playing the role he's been set as perfectly.
I don't think Home (the house) had anything to do with Eddie waking up, I actually think it was a combination of Eddie just not being able to mesh well with the part he has to play and the other characters breaking his routine without asking him. The moment that really shakes him is when he can hear the Narrator say "And Eddie Dear was happy." and i think that's because he really doesn't know if he is happy or not. Home is still strange because its obviously the one thing that Eddie fixates on when he first gains sentience, but I don't think its what shook him out of just being a puppet only.
Eddie is also so obviously playing along with the idea of Homewarming and doesn't actually know much about it. But he's not letting the others know this, as when he's alone is when he tells himself to just "focus on the festivities" instead of the other confusing parts of Homewarming. When he's with Poppy decorating the tree (with turkey...? and gravy...?) He just makes it seem like what they're doing is a no brainer, and something everyone does during the holidays.
But when he starts spiraling at the party, all of the things he helped decorate look strange and confusing to him. He can't focus on anything, staring into the wallpaper makes it seem worse, and the fabric of his own reality is literally being ripped at the seams (there's just an excessive amount of video tearing which I equate to Eddie's sense of sanity at the moment and just how present he really is)
It's here that Eddie finally realizes just what they're doing, and what everything really truly looks like. Eddie even tries to focus solely on Frank's face to sort of ground him, but the goddamned credits for the episode itself is playing over Frank's face and obscuring his vision. The scene itself wants to move on but Eddie is still able to see what the audience normally wouldn't be able too, and that split from his reality to ours is what makes him freak out in the end.

Happy homewarming (this is my little story it is non-canon)
Tumblr media
In the neighborhood homewarming is celebrated 2 weeks before christmas, homewarming is celebrated on the 13 and 14 of December. Homewarming is celebrated the same as christmas but it's mostly about celebrating the homes of the neighborhood and how much they are grateful to have them. Home and wally give the most thoughtful gifts to everyone, so this year everyone wanted to do the same for them, so they painted a big picture of them smiling and saying happy holidays. Sometime later at the gift exchange everyone came up to wally and home and showed them the picture of them, wally smiled at the picture and home creaked happily at the picture, "thank you everyone for the picture" wally said will a calm and happy voice, everyone smiled giving wally and home a big hug.

So this last update seems to have confirmed the fan theory that there's some force within the neighborhood that wants Eddie gone. He spends the entire day waiting for a call that never comes, he's left out of the Homewarming storybook entirely, the narration cuts out as soon as his name is mentioned in the Wish Book advertisement, and it seems that no one told him about Wally's housewarming party that evening since he doesn't mention it when trying to figure out why no one's contacted him. Something is isolating Eddie, trying to push him out of the neighborhood entirely.
But just as Eddie is about to reach his breaking point, he's saved by Sally of all people.
Sally doesn't like Eddie, this has been established in past updates. She refers to him exclusively as "mailman," is incredibly dismissive towards him during "Happy Haunting," and in general she seems to not want him around. But she was watching Eddie all day from her spot on the tree, being able to tell why he was upset from the outside looking in. She assured him that everyone just wanted to give him a break, quietly dispelling his fears of being unneeded. She's the one to invite him to the Housewarming party he wasn't told about. And she tells Frank that something is wrong with Eddie.
Why would she tell Frank of all people that Eddie is upset? By all accounts she shouldn't have any reason to believe that those two are especially close, they rarely interact out in public and when they do they address each other only by last names. But as these last two updates have shown, Sally knows things she's not supposed to, she sees thing that she's not supposed to. She likely knows that Frank and Eddie are far closer than they're meant to be and just this once she's willing to use that to keep Eddie from spiraling any further. Interestingly enough, she also leaves the two of them alone just as Frank is starting to become concerned, as if she knows that Frank can only show his true feelings away from prying eyes.
Sally doesn't like Eddie but she's not going to let him be pushed out of the picture. She brings him to the Homewarming party he wasn't invited to- potentially putting herself in the line of fire- and makes sure that Frank knows something is up with him. By all accounts, Sally is now silently rebelling against the malicious force lurking in the neighborhood and using her forbidden knowledge to do it. As she says herself-

(FAN ART! Please do not repost!)
WAHHH! The update has me in shambles over here! I haven’t had time to draw something new, so I’m sharing this again but now you can actually see the puppeteers haha!
I’m so interested in the puppeteering aspect of this story, and I think it’s even more deep when you consider how many people are working these silly guys. For reference, I looked at images of Jim and the gang puppeteering Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street. I love learning how this stuff works!
Anyway, the art itself isn’t a spoiler, but I’ll tag this as such just in case.
Happy Homewarming! 💌

Alrighty since I'm going in alone here's what I could personally find on the website. I'm making this post as I go along and hunt for clues! The first thing I noticed:
The Staffer seems to have lost track of time completely and moving the website was less about wanting a new domain, and more about needing a place where Wally couldn't communicate as easy. I hope this doesn't mean finding any audio or photos is a lot harder this time lol otherwise I'm cooked and will have to rely on everyone else like always to solve THOSE puzzles. The very first thing I did when I got on the website was to immediately look for Wally's eyes by zooming all the way out only to find I couldn't see his eyes anywhere, so I don't think Wally is watching...for now.

2. During the advertisement in which santa lists all of the various toys for each neighbor, everyone gets a toy except for Eddy who is again suspiciously being left out of these little cute interactions.
Tumblr media
3. In Wally's ADORABLE Housewarming song, there is an emphasis on "toyland" and never being able to return once you leave and go. Considering Welcome Home's entire theme of puppet's trying to make contact with the outside world as much as they possibly can, I feel as if this is a very important detail to note.

TLDR: Eddie's self-consciousness about his place in the neighbourhood and lack of identity cause him to momentarily panic which lead to him seeing beyond the reality of the neighbourhood and becoming somewhat self-aware that his world isn't "real".
This is gonna be rambly btw..
So about Eddie,
Eddie rather became self-conscious of himself or self-aware.
We see from the commercials that Eddie doesn't know how to deal with himself. He is constantly look to help someone or do his job. Eddie is also one of the few characters that has no known origin. Eddie is described as absent-minded and forgetting where he is from, it a running joke. Eddie is the only other neighbour that doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the wacky cast. This update was clearly meant for Eddie. It's him on the cereal box puzzle that sends us to the website that shows us him struggle. This has lead me to come to the possibility that Eddie has self-identity besides being the mailman (What a conclusion I know...).
I'm not going to argue on who became self-aware first just because there is no clear cut evidence on just how Welcome Home crew/Marlo/and other associates were able to get this footage or manipulate these scenes. This is all going on the fact that Sally spoke of monsters in the woods walking around the neighbourhood while they all sleep. Julie never refuted this so she at least knows it's not her family. And the neighbours can clearly interact with the narrator in the Storybook Records. There is a clear disconnect on if the Neighbourhood is REAL, I'm not gonna get deep in that subject but it's confusing at least for me.
Besides Eddie, Frank is the other neighbour with no other known point of organ. Everyone else has a family member or home noted except for Frank and Eddie. Unlike Eddie, Frank fits into the stuck-up nerd archetype of wacky and zany characters you would see on a kids show. Eddie's Post Office is also the only one not decorated for Homewarming. So once Eddie sits down at the Homeswarming Party and the Narrator says he is happy is when I think Eddie starts to think about how happy he is. He really starts to think about it. My theory is that Eddie, hearing what the narrator is saying, really starts to think about if he is happy and that leads him into a spiral of just who he is. And for a moment he starts to see everything for what it is, the cartoon reality breaks and he sees the world in puppet form (the version of the neighbours we see). Frank coming over to talk to him is what solidifies this for me. He calls him "Eddie." Frank breaks the "script" and if the Frank Bug Theory is true, Frank should already be partly aware at this point (again not gonna get into it but I do believe if not Frank, Barnaby was the first to notice). Eddie says "I should go home." really quietly before Narrator takes over at that point. The transcript makes it a point to mention the panic and strain in his voice while images of Home pop up. Home knows and whoever controls Home (if something does) is also aware of it and ends the broadcast.
It makes the most sense to me that the odd ones out, Frank and Eddie, would be the ones to notice something is off but unlike Frank who seems to be (hypothetically) holding it together, this reality break absolutely destroyed Eddie. Now the question is, what will they do with Eddie?
Edits: you can hear Eddie speak, I just couldn’t 🤷🏾‍♀️
