Misguided Ghost ~ Zak Bagans Ch. 10
A/N: Hey everyone! I hope you are all doing well! Student teaching, plus class and working on my TPA's is insane right now! My cooperating teacher decided to forgo the original plans for her 3rd graders in math, and tasked me with making the lessons for this week from scratch...and I'm being observed later today. Distance learning has been interesting to say the least lol
I am working on the next chapter of my Nathan MacKinnon story so hopefully I have that out around Friday/this weekend!
Enjoy!

Chapter 9
Catching Flights and Feelings
“Mia, have you researched anything on Mickey’s Tavern in Georgia yet?” Zak asked as he walked into my office Monday morning, a week after being back from my first lockdown. Things have been back to normal between Zak and I, if you call what we had before normal. I could tell he was getting used to me being around and the snarky comments had subsided. He spent most of the days walking between my office and his, usually to end up sitting on the other side of my desk with his laptop. I had placed a new air diffuser with the same scent I had in his office, but he still said it wasn’t the same and would just stay in my office. Aaron has been teasing me, but I just brush it off.
I nodded and held up a pile of papers while I was reading through an article for a different location. Zak took them from me and sat down in his newly claimed spot in my office. Once I finished the article and highlighted what I thought stood out, I looked over my laptop at him. “Why did you want that one? I’ve done research on like 10 other locations that came in before them,” I asked, curious because he hasn’t before asked me for information on a specific site. Zak sighed and looked up from the papers. “The owner emailed me last night, then called me this morning. I guess the activity is really becoming too much to where it’s affecting his business. He was hoping we could investigate it sooner rather than later,” Zak informed me. I nodded. “Ok so, I researched that one on Friday and from what I can remember the reports are kind of crazy. Are we going to go?” I asked, taking a sip of my tea. Zak smirked at me. “Crazy is what we do here Mia. Nervous?” he asked. I laughed at his tease, as I knew now he didn’t mean anything by it. “Put me in coach,” I smirked back. Zak let out a chuckle and with a wink, left my office to presumably tell the others. ~ ~ ~ Two days later we were all at the airport, waiting to board. I had just met Jay Wasley and he seemed nice. Our flight was at 6:30 in the morning, which means I had woken up at about 3:30 to make sure I was ready when Zak and Aaron picked me up at 4:30. I was listening to my music while everyone did their own thing when Nick walked up to me and nudged my foot with his as he sat across the aisle from me. I opened my eyes and saw him holding out a tray of coffee, with one marked as a decaf pumpkin spice latte. I smiled and reached for it. “Bless your soul sir,” I said, Nick laughed and handed everyone else their drinks. Zak came over and sat next to me. “So you do drink coffee?” he asked, taking a sip of his. I smiled and shrugged. “Decaf when I know I can handle it,” I informed him. He gave me a quizzical look. “What do you mean by that?” I sighed, debating if I should tell him the whole truth. I didn’t mind talking about my anxiety, but it was also a conversation I try to avoid at times. “Caffeine messes with my anxiety. In grad school I developed really bad separation anxiety from my family. I had no one in San Francisco and apparently that is not good for me. I was already stressed out with school that everything just came to a head and I actually would get sick all the time and lost about 20 pounds. It was to the point I would shake and feel light headed when I didn’t eat at regular intervals. I stopped drinking coffee and I was able to manage it better. Turns out I always had separation anxiety when I looked back to elementary school with my mom. No one just really talked about it then,” I looked down at my coffee, unsure of what his response would be. “Do you need to eat something now? I can get you a bagel or something,” Zak asked softly. I looked back at him and he looked a bit concerned. I laughed lightly. “No, I’m better now. I gained a few pounds back when I got home from school and it helped. Also keeping myself busy and being around friends takes my mind off of it so, hence why I can drink decaf at least. Thank you though,” I smiled at him. “Oh so we’re friends now?” he teased me, and I bumped into his shoulder. “Well I was talking more about Aaron, but I guess I would consider you an acquaintance” I teased back. Zak put his hand to his heart in fake hurt. “Ow! Ok, I see how it is.” He laughed. “But seriously, that doesn’t sound great. Why chose to come to Vegas and leave your family again?” “It was time to branch out again. I don’t want my anxiety to control me, and it honestly isn’t as bad as others. I’m lucky that way. Plus, I figured a three in a half hour drive from home was better than a seven in a half one so I thought I would give it go,” I explained. Zak nodded. “Well, thanks for sharing that. I’m sure I didn’t help in the beginning,” he said, looking a little upset with himself. I was starting to see the guy away from the cameras that Aaron had told me about, and I wanted to see more.             “Not really. But you’ve gotten better,” I smiled at him. He chuckled and took another sip as our boarding time was called out.
Perks of traveling for the Travel Channel, business class seats! Instead of being crammed in a three-seat row, we had spacious two seat rows and I was ready for our nonstop four-hour flight to Atlanta, Georgia. I sat next to the window as Aaron sat next to me as our tickets stated. Zak and Nick were in front of us, with Billy and Jay across the aisle. Aaron settled into his seat, then turned to look at me. I was staring out the window, but I could feel his eyes on me. I turned to him and raised my eyebrow. “Can I help you?”
“You and Zak seem to be getting cozy,” he whispered with a smirk. I looked toward Zak and he had his headphones in so I don’t think he heard. Looking back at Aaron, he had a look on his face like he knew what I was thinking.             “We’re just becoming friends. Leave it alone,” I whispered hissed at him. Aaron rolled his eyes but kept his smile. I laughed and shook my head, looking back toward the window. I felt him shift next to me and when I turned to look, he was leaning forward tapping Zak on the shoulder. I stared at him thinking he wasn’t doing what I thought he was. Oh…but he was.
“Bro I need to talk to Nick about something. Mind switching?” Aaron asked Zak. Zak looked at me as I tried to hid in the hood of my jacket and hoped my cheeks weren’t too red. I wanted to shove Aaron.
“Not at all,” I heard Zak say. I looked up as they switched and Aaron winked at me. I shook my head slightly, then tried to smile when Zak took a seat. “Hope you don’t mind,” Zak said with that charming smile of his. I shook my head and smiled back, bringing my knees up to my chest as we got comfortable and ready for takeoff.
About an hour into the flight, I had drifted off to sleep only to be woken with a start when the plane became bumpy and the captain came over the speakers to ask all passengers to put their seatbelts on. I looked around with wide eyes and Zak must have realized I had no clue what was going on. “Hey, hey it’s ok. We just hit some turbulence,” he said, reaching for my hand. I let him intertwine our fingers as my heart started to slow back down. I smiled lightly at him, slightly embarrassed by my panic.
“Sorry,” I said quietly. He smiled and shook his head.
“Don’t be,” he stated, and went back to looking at his phone. I looked down at our hands and I could feel myself start to blush. It was strangely comforting knowing he was right there. I squeezed his hand reflexively as the plane gave another jolt. It’s not like I’ve never been through turbulence on a plane before, but it still didn’t mean that I liked it. Zak gave a reassuring squeeze to my hand and put his phone down, shifting his body so he was facing me more. “Why don’t you tell me about the history of this bar we’re going to,” he asked lightly.             “I’m ok, honestly,” I said, feeling bad I took him away from what he was doing before. Zak smiled.
“Who said I was doing this for your benefit?” he winked. I rolled my eyes but smiled none the less. I quietly began listing off what I remembered about the site, Zak asking questions here and there. Thirty minutes later the seatbelt sign was turned off again but Zak didn’t let go of my hand, and I would be lying if I said that didn’t make me feel like there were butterflies in my stomach.             About an hour later, we were getting ready to land. Only then Zak let go of my hand to put his backpack away and I couldn’t stop myself from feeling slightly disappointed. Though we had started talking about the location, we then started talking about music and concerts we’ve been to, and just life in general. We were really starting to get to know each other, and I was happy he was trusting me enough to open up.
Once off the plane, we claimed our luggage and all the tech equipment, heading off to the rental car area. Because there were 6 of us and many bags, we ended up with two SUVs. Billy and Jay in one with all the tech equipment, and the rest of us in the other with the luggage. I sat in the back with Aaron as Nick drove and Zak was in the passenger seat. I was watching Aaron as he was trying to hid his phone from me, but kept looking up with a goofy smile. I laughed at him as my phone and Zak’s both rang with a notification. Aaron gave me a huge smile as I looked at him suspiciously. “I’m scared to look at that,” I whispered and Zak shot around.
“Dude, seriously?” he didn’t seem mad or irritated, just slightly chuckled and shook his head. I looked between the two of them. Oh God…I picked up my phone and saw the Instagram notification that Aaron had tagged me in a post. I opened it up and my jaw dropped. Crap…
Aarongoodwin: The newbie can’t handle early morning travel #ghostadventures #travelbuddies #adoptedlilsis
Above the caption was a picture that Aaron shot over his head with him making a laughing face. I was fast asleep on Zak’s shoulder, with my knees curled up to my chest and leaning in his direction as well. Zak looked unphased, face in his phone, not noticing what Aaron was up to. To be honest, the picture was cute. But I was slightly mortified. What is Zak thinking? What are the fans going to think? Aaron just posted the picture two minutes ago and it already had over 400 likes and 53 comments. But one stood out.
Realzakbagans: What can I say? I make a good pillow. I looked up to see Zak watching me. When I caught his eyes he winked at me, then turned back around. I laughed and shook my head.
NotMiaThermopolis: OMG! @realzakbagans sorry! @aarongoodwin I hate you. #notamorningpersonBoth Zak and Aaron checked their phones at the same time. Zak let out a bark like laugh as Aaron yelled “Hey!” Nick stopped at a red light and turned toward us.
“Will someone please fill me in?” he asked. Zak showed him the post and he started laughing. “Ok, that is a cute picture though. I will have my two cents in about it once we get to the hotel.” I looked at Aaron and shook my head as he gave me puppy dog eyes.
“You suck,” I laughed and smiled at him. He gave me a big smile as we all settled back into our seats for the hour drive out of Atlanta.

I’m so excited to share with you a bridesmaid experience from my dear friend Beth. She is a total sweetheart and great friend, as you’ll find out yourself throughout this post. When she told me about her friend’s 1920s wedding theme, I wanted every single detail. It took a little bit to compile, but the wait is finally over. I hope you enjoy hearing about her experience and seeing the amazing details that made up this extraordinary wedding day.
Beth the Bridesmaid
My name is Beth Jarrell. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. I graduated from Geneva College, which is where I met the lovely bride Megan I will be talking more about in this interview. I’ve had the honor of being a bridesmaid twice now. The first wedding I was a bridesmaid for my cousin Steph when I was 19 years old. The second wedding was with Megan when I was 27.
On Meeting the Bride
I met the bride Megan in college at a football game where we were talking about how cute this one football player (Brad) was. Turns out she actually ended up marrying the football player we were talking about.
What is so funny to me is Megan was the goth type. I never in a million years would have thought she would go for a football type. Obviously I was so wrong. They are wonderful together. Their personalities are different, but they balance each other out in such a beautiful way.
Beth and Megan’s Friendship
My friendship with Megan really took off after the football game and we became like sisters. She would sleep in my dorm room a lot and we’d stay up having long talks. We were roommates during our Junior and Senior year of college, and spent most weekends together. We would go camping, take day trips, and go to concerts together. Also Megan LOVES breakfast. No matter how late in college she’d stayed up the night before, she was always so excited and begging me to go to breakfast.
She really has a zeal for life. She can get anyone excited about anything. That has always been one of my favorite things about her.
Will You Be My Bridesmaid?
It was very apparent to me and my husband Bryan that they would end up getting married. They had come to visit us after we moved out of state and started asking me and Bryan about what it’s like to be married. I told my husband, “It’s only a matter of time before he proposes.” Finally one night, not too long after, I got a phone call from Megan telling me that Brad had proposed to her. She was elated and asked me to be a bridesmaid. This is still one of my favorite phone calls I have ever received.
The Bridesmaids
There were 7 other bridesmaids besides me. It was the perfect amount because there were plenty of people to split the responsibilities with. Plus everyone had a wide range of talents. Some ladies were good at arts and craft stuff, some were detail oriented when it came to planning, and others were good for emotional support. All the different personalities really came together to make the wedding events better.
I think for the most part the bridesmaids got along. We communicated through emails mainly, which gets kind of confusing with that many people. So there were a few issues from time to time. But I feel like I really got to know some awesome ladies who really truly care about the bride.
Everyone wanted her wedding day to be everything she ever hoped it would be. This was no small task because Megan is a very creative and artistic person. Her idea for her wedding was detailed and very involved.
Having so many great bridesmaids who were willing to go the extra mile helped the bride accomplish this beautiful 1920s wedding theme. I really enjoyed all of my time with these ladies throughout planning. They were awesome and I definitely cannot wait to see them again. So yes, I made some new besties for sure!
The Cost of Being a Bridesmaid
I think Megan made it totally affordable to be in her wedding! I paid:
$148 for a 1920’s style dress. $30 for tan wedge shoes from TJMax. $30 for pearl earrings and a necklace from Target. $150 for the shower/ bachelorette. $40 for bachelorette fun stuff for the bride. $35 shower gift – beer glasses listed on their registry and beer. $50 for a a wedding gift – His and Her basket full of things for their honeymoon/ married life together.
$483 Total
Bridesmaid Dress Experience
I adored my bridesmaids dress. The bride was super chill about our look, even advising us to wear comfortable shoes since it was an outdoor wedding. She let us pick out our own dress style as long as it was pink, beige, or a creamy champagne color. It was nice to be able to pick out a dress that would be flattering on all of us. I am still amazed that she was able to bring to reality her dream of creating such a beautiful 1920s wedding.
Bridal Shower on a Budget
We were going to do the wedding at a winery but they were ridiculously expensive. They wanted us to buy a bottle of wine for every so many people and we knew we couldn’t afford that. So we ended up having it at someone’s house, doing all the cooking (some in advance), set up, tear down, and decorating ourselves. This is the best way to save money.
I say DIY shower all the way. Making sure the entire bridal party helped, split costs, and worked on it was key too.
Each bridesmaid paid $100 and that was all the money needed for the shower. There was even some money left over, so we put it towards the bachelorette party.
Bridal Shower Theme, Decor, and Games
The bridal shower was a high tea theme. It was absolutely gorgeous. We used real China place settings and teacups for every guest, as well as gold silverware. Decor included more teacups and lace tablecloths.
For food we had mini sandwiches and cookies in the shape of tea bags. Then there were these adorable calendar cookies that doubled as save the dates made by one of the bridesmaid’s mother. We even made all the favors by putting loose leaf tea in tins that had marriage related sayings on them.
The first game we played was Bride and Groom Mad Libs. You fill in the words and the bride gets to keep the papers with guests answers as a keepsake. Another game we played involved asking the bride questions and she had to guess what the groom would say. Brad had been filmed answering them ahead of time. It was fun to see if their answers matched.
The Blending of Two Families
The bride was absolutely shocked at how beautifully the shower turned out. She saw everything and started crying because she was so happy. She said it was everything she ever dreamed it would be. The guests all commented on how wonderful the decorations were, and they loved the food.
Before we ate the groom’s mother welcomed everyone to the shower and talked about how excited she was that Megan and Brad were getting married. She spoke about how she loved Megan and already felt as if she were family. It was a very meaningful and special moment for the bride and groom’s family/friends to be part of. Many tears were shed.
It was a great day where all of the bridesmaids, the MOB, and the MOG came together to celebrate Megan and Brad’s wedding. It was in this moment that we all knew the wedding was going to be such a wonderful day.
The Bachelorette Party
We started at the bride’s apartment, decorating it in a gold new age theme. We gave her a sash that we all wrote little notes on for her to wear, had some champagne, and then took the bride to dinner at a place she had been dying to try. It was actually an old funeral home changed into an American food restaurant.
Then we went back to the bride’s apartment for dessert and more drinks. We headed back out and went to a dance club that was playing 80’s dance music. After that we had a sleepover at the bride’s apartment, woke up, cooked her brunch, and then helped with wedding stuff.
Getting Crafty for the 1920s Wedding
Megan had the idea of a 1920s wedding in her mind. She had all of the decorations mapped out in her mind, but really needed a lot of extra hands to create those decorations. She sent out an email in January with a list of things she needed help with and had a few days where the bridesmaids came together to help her.
In one of her emails you can see her excitement as she said to us:
“What whaaaat! 4 months to go as of today! I am literally dying on the inside! I’m torn between being so excited to see you all and celebrate aka wanting the wedding to be TODAY and then wishing I had 4 MORE months to get all of the tasks finished! Agh!”
To her credit, Megan spent a lot of time going to yard sales to find the dishes for serving, center pieces, and other decorations. So we did what we could to help her stay on task. Everything from the invites, to the cup cake toppers, to the placecards and favors were handmade mainly by the bride and her bridesmaids. It was a really beautiful wedding.
Beth’s Favorite Wedding Moments
I may be a little biased since my husband was the pastor, but it really was the perfect ceremony. It was  also one of the most well thought out weddings I have been to. Not only was the decor absolutely stunning, the food was delicious, and the venue of the family camp was absolutely breathtaking. It was a very personal and intimate environment for the guests that were there.
We all had so much fun with the photo booth set up with 1920s props. I loved the the cookie and coffee bar, as well as the wine and beer bar. This wedding had tons of dancing, and towards the end of the evening some break dancing even took place. A year later I am still thinking about how great this wedding was. The love that the bride and groom had for each other and their friends/family was apparent that day. A year later it still shines through.
Being a bridesmaid is more than just being in someone’s wedding. It is a pure honor and a deepening of friendship. I was overjoyed to stand beside Megan and support her on one of the best and most important days of her life.
We couldn’t agree more Beth. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
Special thanks to Sarah J Dixon Photography for allowing us to use the wedding day photos.

Part 1 of 4: Solution To Overcoming Your Mental Barriers and Cultivating A Winner's Mentality
Tumblr media
The strange secret I learned from a Senegalese taxi cab driver in Manhattan that re-wired my brain and smacked me back to reality (these words of wisdom will help you finally put aside your fears and live the life of your dreams)
It started at 2 p.m. on Saturday in New York City, in the heat of August.
The blistering sun seemed to be piercing right through my skin, completely ignoring the fact that I was sitting in the backseat of a covered taxi cab.
I guess it didn't help that I was also leaning smack dab up against the window.
In any case, I was understandably not in a good mood.
The heat only added to the anger and anxiety boiling in my brain from being stuck in weekend Manhattan traffic, where a 15 minute drive can easily turn into a 50 minute nightmare.
For a moment, I even entertained the thought that a brisk walk would get me to my destination faster than this godforsaken taxi cab.
But alas, a walk would've taken me 40-50 minutes, and a long walk with luggage in tow in 95 degree heat just didn't sound all too appealing at the moment.
I did have to come to terms, though, with the fact that time was winding down fast.
I now had less than 15 minutes until my 2:49 p.m. train to Long Island left from Penn Station.
Missing the train meant missing a ride to a relative's wedding out on the island.
And this relative was also a friend from my youth, whom I hadn't seen in over 8 years at this point. Understandably, I had zero intention of missing the festivities.
So when my seemingly knowledgeable cab driver drove 2 blocks past 34th street, where we should've made a turn, I flipped out.
I unleashed a torrent of anger, directed solely towards him.
"HEY! You missed the turn!! I thought I told you I'm going to Penn Station and that I'm running late. Are you freakin' kidding me?!?!"
He replied, "Hey man there's some traffic that way since they blocked ---"
Before he could finish his sentence, I responded with:
"I don't give a shit what they blocked off. You probably have no clue what the heck you're talking about. Do you even know where Penn Station is??"
What happened next was akin to being backhanded by an angry Arnold Schwarzenegger, in his prime, hopped up on steroids.
My cab driver screamed back with a fervent zeal that I'll remember for years to come.
"HEY, you better calm down man. Why are you so mad?? You'll catch your damn train. And if you don't, then what? What are you going to do? Huh? Huh?? What's going to happen to you if you don't catch your train? Are you going to die? Is it the end of the world? What is it??"
"You're young, man. Just chill. Everything will be OK. Be happy. You're alive. Don't worry so much. So much goes wrong in this world. You never know what can happen, and you're going to drive yourself crazy for missing a damn train?"
"It's sad, but tragedies happen all the time. For all you know man, that train could crash and you could die. Then what? Then you'll have wished you didn't make it there on time."
"You just don't get it. Life isn't always so simple. You work so damn hard for a brand new car, and then you get hit by a truck when you turn the corner. You kill yourself over a girl that you love, and then something goes wrong, and she takes all your money. You lose everything. Every moment is a blessing. Work hard, be the best you can, help your family and pray. Just pray and accept that everything happens for a reason. If you miss the train, god has a reason for it. People run like crazy to catch their plane and then it drops out of the sky. Relax, be calm, be positive. Everything will be ok.
"And look, man. If you don't die in this crazy way, there is only one thing that will get you.
Stress. Stress is the killer."
Then, he ended with something that I'll never, ever forget.
"I saw this with my kids too. You just never know what will happen. I mean you can think life is so good, and you build a home with a beautiful wife and your kids. And then it all burns to the ground. You never know, man. Treat every moment like a blessing. Like it's your last."
I was floored.
I didn't know what to think of when he said that. I still don't.
I especially zeroed in on what he said last. I don't know for sure if the "house burning down" was just another of his examples, lost in the mix of the other points he was trying to get across.
Or if it was his reality.
And while I regret to say it, I do think that this last example was his reality. I didn't have the heart to ask further but, from the way in which he said it plus based on other things he told me, it seemed that he had lost his wife and children in a house fire.
And both at the moment, and even looking back now as I write this, I truly believe this man has seen some terrible, terrible things.
Beyond losing his whole family, I believe this man has seen more death and faced more pain than 95% of us.
That everything he loved and cherished was taken from him.
And that he realizes all he has left is himself, and the opportunity to be happy. The opportunity to enjoy life at the moment, and to treat every moment like it's his last.
What he told me about his background corroborates my understanding of his experience even more.
He told me that he originally was born in Senegal. That he was raised and lived there for quite a long time, and that he was married and had 2 boys there. And that he had now been in American for 25 years.
From what I surmised, he looked to be about late 50s, maybe early 60s. So I figured he had left Senegal in his mid-20s or early 30s. In my analysis of this conversation, I kept coming back to remember his use of the past tense at certain times. I especially cued in on him saying that he "was married, and had 2 boys in Senegal".
It hurt to hear this, and it hurts to look back at it now. But when I combine this past tense statement and the house fire example he gave me...a strong part of me thinks that sometime in his late 20s, before he came to America, he lost his wife and 2 boys in a fire. Otherwise, I am almost certain he would've said "I have 2 boys".
You see, behind the thin, wiry, gentle-faced Senegalese man, with curly, graying hair, I saw a man who seemed as if he had been to hell and back.
And this pain showed itself, at its greatest, during his long, powerful talk.
He was, at his core, a man who really wanted to be happy, and who really wanted to see other people happy.
And on this day, he just couldn't take seeing a young, 24 year old man like me being so stressed, worried and rushed to catch a train that may kill me for all I know.
His riveting story shocked me, and taught me an innumerable number of lessons. It was a divine miracle in my eyes to have the opportunity to hear this man talk.
This 30 minute cab ride turned out to be one of the most powerful moments of my life, and it has significantly impacted the way I think, talk, act, and live.
This man drilled into my head many things that I had heard hundreds of times, but could never apply...
He taught me that I really don't know what life will bring me, but that I will be OK in the end.
He taught me that life is a miracle, and it is something to be cherished.
He taught me to take nothing for granted, and to always be grateful for the people and things I have in my life, no matter how insignificant they may seem at times.
He taught me that I have to do my absolute best in each and every moment, and to be the best person I can be, both for myself and others.
And he taught me that everything will be OK, as long as I relax, be positive, and have faith.
That no matter what happens, I'll be OK. That when I'm facing an insurmountable task, or I feel like I can't do anything right, everything will be OK.
That there's no need to worry about things that are completely out of my control. And in doing this, I can let go.
I can let go of any pressures or insecurities, and just relax and do what I have to do to overcome my fears, follow my passions, and live the life of my dreams.
And in doing so, I can finally be happy, joyous, and free.
The way I see it, if a man who lost everything can still find a way to be happy, there's no reason I can't either, there's no reason you can't, and there's no reason anyone in the world can't. If we change the way we think, we can change our lives completely, even in the worst of circumstances.

Chapter 4 - Sorry
The next day Carol didn't see Harry up until the time she was getting ready to leave. She finished all her tasks and proofread her colleagues' as well. It had become an habit of everyone asking her to proof-read their written reports. She didn't like it at first, because there were people who had way more experience than she had, but she finally gave in.
She was on her way to the elevators and texting her friend when Harry was going to knock on his bodyguards' door. They actually bumped into each other on the corridor and her cell phone fell on the floor.
"Sorry" he said picking her phone and giving it to her. "That's alright." she pressed the button to call the elevator. "I'm glad to see that you're going home at a reasonable hour." He put his phone on his jeans pocket but it didn't stop buzzing. Someone was very eager to talk to him. "Well, TGIF!" She joked. "What are your plans?" "Get home, have a shower and go to sleep.", she said matter of factly. "Not going out with friends?" "Nope. Not today." "And not with the boyfriend?", he couldn't help himself and had to ask that question. "I don't have one. Not anymore." She answered. "Oh... Sorry." he was actually embarassed for asking that question. "That's the second time you said sorry in less than five minutes, Harry. You alright?", she asked looking at him. "Yeah. Sure."
She found his behaviour a bit weird but didn't comment on it. He wasn't alright, but she didn't press further since they weren't friends and he wouldn't be talking to her about personal matters anyway.
"What are your plans?" "You know it. I'm going to Villa Country tonight. Edward and the PO's were very satisfied with the place." "Glad I could help. Hope you have fun!" "Thanks.", his phone started ringing and he looked at the screen, "I'm sorry. I really have to get this. See you on Monday, Ok?", he blinked her and continued his way on the corridor. "Ok.", she answered at the same time the elevator arrived at the floor and said before it's doors closed: "Have fun tonight!" --- "Come on, Carol, let's go!", her mom tried to take her off bed on Sunday morning. "Mom, it's Sunday and I don't want to go. And it's not even noon yet. Why did you wake me up?", she grumbled and covered herself again. "It's a beautiful day out there and it's been a while since we went to the park. Let's go. Get up. Up. Up." her mom gave light shakes for her to fully wake up. "Leave me alone, mom. It's too early!", her grumpy mood was obvious. "Come on, Carol. Up. I'll open the windows and turn on the radio if you don't wake up." Maria had her hands on her hips. Carol only grumbled annoyed again and sat on her bed. She was sleepy, tired and her mom wanted a fucking stroll at Ibirapuera Park on a Sunday morning. "Why go now and not in the afternoon?" "Because it'll probably rain the afternoon. You know it. And it's a beautiful winter day. Come on." "Give me 20 minutes to wake up and change clothes." "20 minutes, Carol. I mean it.", Maria left the bedroom leaving the door open.
Carolina never understood the fact her mom actually enjoyed waking up early. She'd be up and running everyday at 5:00am. She didn't like to sleep in and she barely took naps when she was home. But Carol simply despised it. Everytime she had to wake up before 10:00am she'd grumpy and stressed and everything would irritate her. Mumbling and mentally counting how many hours she had slept the night before, she changed clothes and did a messy bun with her hair without really brushing it and brushed her teeth before going to the kitchen and grabbing something to eat. In no time both of them were headed to the biggest park of São Paulo.
There they visited the Modern Art Museum. It was a futuristic and minimalist black and white building with glass doors in the middle of the park. They had a look at the masterpieces for a while before it got too crowded. They left and walked through one of the many pathways of the park to the nearest bike and rollerblades renting place. They rented bikes and simply enjoyed the sunny day in the end of winter. When they were at a part of the park where there were no little kids running around, they even raced each other. They returned their bikes before their time was up and walked again to the part of the park that had lots of snack bars and restaurants. After having lunch in one of the many restaurants, they sat in front of the most famous fountain of the City. The one that got lights around Christmas time. The fountain was in the middle of a huge lake where they could actually see a few ducks and swans swimming and playing with each other. They sat on the grass and saw many families walking on the park, young people working out, some small bands playing and other people simply reading a book, an actuall book, in front of the lake. "How is it like to work with a Prince?", her mom asked. "He is pretty normal. It's like working with anyone else." "Is he polite?" "Yes. So much." She adjusted her sunglasses on her face. "I'm going to buy another beer. Because I can't take your joyful humour without it." Maria said after noticing that her daughter was still a bit grumpy because of her "lack" of sleep. "Do you want one?" "Yes, sure. If you took me out of bed in the middle of the night, you might as well buy me a beer!" Carol said smirking. "It was 10 in the morning, Carolina. Stop exaggerating.", she got up and started to walk away from her daughter.
While her mom walked to the small kiosk nearby, Carolina got to think about the last few months of her life. How her heart was still broken all because of someone who was supposedly her best friend. How she was still mad at her dad after her parents divorce, because he simply alleged to the judge that he was the victim in the middle of two manipulating people and that he was very damaged because of the treatment they were giving him. All lies, but that got him out of paying things for them. And that allowed him to do the worst thing ever: kicking them out of their apartment without a warning. And he hadn't even called for the last eight months to know if they were alive or if they had found somewhere safe to live in. She also thought how much her mom had worked to be able to pay all the bills and to see that she had aged more in those months than in the last couple years. How she was complaining of knee and back pain, because of all the standing she had to do as a kitchen chef. Seeing her mom like that had made Carol cry herself to sleep every other night while she was unable to help her. She thought about the exams at school that she wasn't sure she got a good grade because she simply couldn't concentrate with everything going on her life. Everything that seemed to be happening at the same time. And she didn't have the emotional structure to handle it all well. It was like she was juggling. And one of the balls was about to fall at any time.
"Carol", she heard her mom's voice and was a bit startled. She shook her head to clear it from the thoughts she was having and turned to look at her. She was accompanied with a man. He was tall, a bit athletic and had a thin bit of grey beard and hair. He was probably closer to age to her mom and was wearing black work out clothes and had kind blue eyes. "Yes?" "You won't believe it. I was asking for our beers and I bumped into Flavio." Carol knew who he was. Her mom's ex-boyfriend, the one she dated 30 years before. Her mom had told her the history of how they had met, dated and how they fell apart due to his mom's prejudice. How they tried to stay togehter but it simply didn't happen. Shaking her head to be back at the present, Carol got up and reached a hand for him. "Hello. I'm Carolina. Nice to meet you.", she offered politely. "Nice to meet you too!", he answered shaking her hand and smiling. Her mom gave her the beer can and Carol opened it to have a sip. "It's been what? 30 years since we've seen each other?", her mom asked him in her usual cheerful self. "Yes. 30 years. And then we just bump into each other in the middle of Ibirapuera on a Sunday afternoon." They all laughed of the improbability of the situation. "Have you guys eaten? We could head to the restaurant and have something." "We actually have...", her mom started to make an apology for them. "You know, Flavio, you guys probably want to catch up those thirty years." She smiled and her mom noticed it was another joke and hint about her age "And since my mom dragged me here in the middle of the night, why don't you guys go have something while I go home to study and sleep for a bit?", Carol smiled at them. "It was 10 in the morning, Carolina!" Her mom answered crossing her arms annoyed. "Are you sure?" "Yes, I am sure. And I have to finish a school essay anyway." She had a half smile on her face. "Well, then I guess I could stay a little bit more" her mom was uncommonly nervous at the time and her smile wasn't reaching her eyes. "That's good. How are you getting home?" He looked concerned. "Oh, by bus. It's Sunday, so it's basically traffic-free and I'll be home in no time." "Don't you want a taxi? I can call one for you" He offered. "No, the bus is just fine. But thank you. And nice to meet you, Flavio." "Nice to meet you too, Carolina.", He said politely before she left and she could hear him ask: "She knows who I am?" And her mother answer: "She does. She's my best friend and knows everything about me."
------
Carol was the first to arrive at the office on Monday. Everything was quiet and calm. She made some coffee while her computer was turning on. Today she was more relaxed and rested. She knew the day wouldn't be a full one and that she didn't have packed up work. The feeling of being in control of things was one of the best feelings for her.
After people started to arrive, everyone started to do their jobs and Carol was the one everyone wanted an opinion from or tips while translating things and putting together a good sentence. Everyone there worked as real team and they were happy with the results of everything they were creating. It was almost 4:00 in the afternoon when Harry entered their headquarters. He greeted everyone and had a huge smile on his face. He soon sat on the chair in front of her desk. It was becoming an habit of his.
"I guess I owe you a big thank you!", he said with a cocky smile on his face. "Why?", she answered uncertain. "That place was lit." He clapped his hands together and had his eyes wide open. She burst out laughing because his reaction. But soon had to compose herself to try to not bring attention to them. "Yeah?", she said still stifling a laugh. "Yes! The music was great, I actually learned how to sing one with one of the singers. Who by the way, knew who you were.", he said leaning in and almost whispering, so nobody else would hear him. "The drinks were good and not very expensive, the food was delicious. And you should've warned me that the place was packed with beautiful women." "Well, brazilian women are beautiful. I thought you'd know it by yourself at this point, mister.", she joked. "Yeah, you're right. I went back there on Saturday as well." "So you really liked it then" "I did. Thank you Carol", he said. "You're welcome, Harry.", she was about to get back to the files she had on her hands when he asked. "So how was your weekend? I was hoping to see you at Villa on Saturday.", he said and she laughed because he was using the place's nickname, just like everyone who went there did. "I just went with my mom to the Ibirapuera.", she said. "Oh, that's fun. I went there last time I was in São Paulo." "And we bumped into her ex-boyfriend." She said while typing things on the keyboard. "Was it awkward?", he started scribbling on a notepad that was on her table. "Not for me at least. I used it as an excuse to be able to go home and sleep.", she laughed. "You sleep a lot, don't you think?" he said. "I don't sleep enough, you mean. Try to go to school and work and have house chores to see if you wouldn't be as tired as I am." "Yeah, yeah. You've got a good point." They were in silence for a couple minutes before Harry's curiosity got the best of him. "You said you bumped into your mom's ex-boyfriend. What about your dad?", he asked curiously tilting his head. "My parents got a divorce at the beginning of the year." "Oh, I'm sorry.", and he meant it. "Is that the only word you know how to speak these days? You’re apologizing an awful lot since Friday.” she looked at him and smiled. “But... It was definitely for the best, though." she kept eye contact with him while saying it. "Care to elaborate?" "It's a long history. We don't have the time right now.", she answered knowing he'd have to leave in a moment. "Some day, though. I want to hear it." "Well, I'll tell you if you ask nicely."
A/N: I wasn’t going to post today, but since I am getting lots of help from many of you guys, I decided to update. This is also Bruna’s birthday gift. See ya next week.

NEW- Why am I still teaching Kings? I explain on video.
Just a few practical things here- We see the heirs to the thrones [both Israel and Judah] and how their sons after them often follow the footsteps of their dads- but not in every case.
Usually those with short reigns- are leading the people down wrong paths- and those with longer rule- are attempting to do what is right.
Asa- king of Judah- does right- has a 41 year reign- and he is a builder. Yet- in times of trouble- he takes the restored wealth- and hires the king of Syria to fight against Baasha- king of Israel- in order to stop Baasha from fighting him.
Baasha was building Ramah- a city that was vital to the survival of Judah- and the king of Syria does his ‘hired’ job- breaks a covenant he had with the king of Israel and attacks him.
Baasha- the Israelite king leaves off building of Ramah- and goes home to protect his own turf. Then Asa makes a decree- and he uses all the stones that were being built against him- and builds good out of them.
The lesson is clear- what the enemy meant for evil- Asa turned it around- and built the kingdom [or 2 cities]-
Just a note- down the road we will read a rebuke that God gave to Judah- because they trusted in the arm of the flesh in hiring the king of Syria- and did not trust wholly in the Lord. But the idea was good at least- in using the enemies rocks- and making something good out of it.
I’ll add my past teaching on this chapter below- and simply end this note by encouraging you- what roadblocks have you had to deal with on your journey? Have they seemed unfair?
Often times they do- But turn it around- wait on the Lord- maybe for a season you will have to put the building project off- because of a fierce battle.
Fine- fight the battle- but don’t forget to get back to the task at hand. You are a builder of the kingdom of God.
The rulers of this world did something- they crucified the Lord of glory- But if they knew what they were doing at the time- they would have never done it-
1 Corinthians 2:8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. In Context | Full Chapter | Other Translations
But they were simply carrying out the foreordained will of God.
And in the end- it worked out well. Genesis 50:20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive. In Context | Full Chapter | Other Translations

(927)2ND SAMUEL 11- David sends Joab and his men out to war. He stays home and takes a walk on his roof and spots Bathsheba. He sends a servant to contact her and he sleeps with her. He finds out she’s pregnant and the gears in his mind start moving. He calls her noble husband, Uriah, from the front lines of battle and pretends he just called him to inquire about the battle. He sends him home, hoping he will sleep with his wife, and then David will be off the hook. Sure enough Uriah is so noble that he refuses to sleep in his house when his men are in the battle. So David gives it a second shot and gets the brother drunk. He sends him home again and Uriah refuses to sleep with Bathsheba. So David calls for Joab, the lead commander of his army, and says ‘put Uriah in the front lines and draw back and let him die’. Something interesting happens. Joab carries out the plan but also allows some of David’s other men to die. Then he sends a messenger to tell David ‘we were at the front lines, close to a wall, and some of our guys were killed’. Joab tells the messenger ‘if David gets mad and says “what were you thinking by getting close to the wall? This is a basic mistake that should have never been made!”’ Joab says if David asks this, then say ‘Uriah is dead too’. It’s possible that Joab stuck it to David here for making him partake in his personal problems. Military men do not like carrying out personal political vendettas. Either way the messenger goes and tells David and David feels he covered up his sin. Of course we will soon find out the cover up didn’t work. Bathsheba does move in with David and they make plans for the coming baby. A few things; David was a great man, he followed God as a man ‘after Gods own heart’. David was also human. Hebrews says ‘every high priest taken from among men must make sacrifice for his own sin as well as the peoples’. I don’t want to excuse sin, but I want you to see that all of us have ‘feet of clay’. Modern ministry has a system where we present the best image of leadership to people. We feel this is part of the role of leaders. The scriptures show you ‘the good, the bad, and the ugly’. We just saw the ugly.
(928)2ND SAMUEL 12- Nathan confronts David over his sin. He gives a parable about 2 men in a town, one owned lots of flocks and sheep, the other owned one precious lamb. The man with all the sheep had a visitor come to him in need. So instead of sacrificing his own sheep, he went and took the precious ‘only lamb’ from his neighbor. David is incensed over this injustice, he declares ‘This man will pay back what he did and also die for this sin’! Nathan says ‘you are the man’. David realizes he did this very thing with Bathsheba and Uriah. Notice how we have a tendency to be enraged over the sin and faults of others, but we make room for ourselves when we are guilty of the same things. Jesus confronted the religious hypocrisy of his day when he showed the Pharisees that they were guilty of lust and anger and jealousy, the same root causes of murder and adultery. They wanted strict judgment on others who were guilty of the same sins that they were guilty of. Also the fact that the man with one little lamb lost his favorite, this speaks of the great sacrifice of giving up the ‘only begotten Son of God’. Jesus sacrifice was great because the father gave his only Son. Now David receives the reproof from the prophet and Gods judgment is pronounced ‘the sword will never leave your house. From within your own family treachery shall arise. Your wives will be taken from you and publicly disgraced. The son from Bathsheba will die’. Very strict judgment indeed, yet the Lord says ‘nevertheless, I will spare your life’. This was something David did not leave room for in his earlier judgment on the sheep stealer! David mourns and fasts for the child’s life, but the child dies. David has another son with Bathsheba and his name is Solomon. One of the greatest/wisest kings Israel will ever have. A few things; in David’s earlier scenario he said the ‘sheep stealer’ should pay restitution. He wanted the man to right the wrong. In David’s case he killed the very man whom restitution should have been made to! In essence his sin was so severe that it actually cut off part of his future reconciliation. Unforgiveness towards others falls into this same category. God requires us to forgive those who have wronged us. We often do every thing else under the sun to get back on track, but we ‘eliminate’ the very person that stands in the way of total reconciliation! That person is often times the offender. Also at the end of the chapter David is told by Joab that he is on the verge of taking a city and David should come and finish the job so Joab won’t get the credit. David musters his forces and finishes the job. One of the hardest things to do in ministry/service is to regroup and move forward again. David had some very serious issues he had to deal with. The situation with Bathsheba was not going away. He couldn’t completely resolve this issue. But he still needed to function and carry out his responsibilities. Faithfulness means sticking it out even thru your own personal failures. Completing the task to the best of your ability. At one point they asked David ‘why were you grieving and fasting while the boy was still alive, and after he died you ate and functioned again’? David said ‘who knows, when the boy was alive there was a possibility that God would change his mind and let the boy live. After he died there was nothing else I could do’. Most of us would have been angry at God. David didn’t have all the answers, he knew Nathan was an accurate prophet. The things Nathan said were from the Lord. But David also was ‘from the Lord’. He too had a relationship with God. He depended on this relationship to guide him thru stuff. Maybe God would do something? David did not have all the answers. And when God didn’t do what he wanted, he didn’t take it personal. He moved forward the best he could. God showed tremendous mercy in allowing this sinful situation to produce a future king. Solomon was born from this turmoil and he was a great man of God. Look to the lord to bring forth wisdom from the failures in your life. The ‘first son’ might not have survived, but the second son just might be a prodigy.

1Kings 15:1 Now in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam the son of Nebat reigned Abijam over Judah. 1Kings 15:2 Three years reigned he in Jerusalem. and his mother’s name was Maachah, the daughter of Abishalom. 1Kings 15:3 And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father. 1Kings 15:4 Nevertheless for David’s sake did the LORD his God give him a lamp in Jerusalem, to set up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem: 1Kings 15:5 Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite. 1Kings 15:6 And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of his life. 1Kings 15:7 Now the rest of the acts of Abijam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? And there was war between Abijam and Jeroboam. 1Kings 15:8 And Abijam slept with his fathers; and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead. 1Kings 15:9 And in the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel reigned Asa over Judah. 1Kings 15:10 And forty and one years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Maachah, the daughter of Abishalom. 1Kings 15:11 And Asa did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, as did David his father. 1Kings 15:12 And he took away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made. 1Kings 15:13 And also Maachah his mother, even her he removed from being queen, because she had made an idol in a grove; and Asa destroyed her idol, and burnt it by the brook Kidron. 1Kings 15:14 But the high places were not removed: nevertheless Asa’s heart was perfect with the LORD all his days. 1Kings 15:15 And he brought in the things which his father had dedicated, and the things which himself had dedicated, into the house of the LORD, silver, and gold, and vessels. 1Kings 15:16 And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days. 1Kings 15:17 And Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah, and built Ramah, that he might not suffer any to go out or come in to Asa king of Judah. 1Kings 15:18 Then Asa took all the silver and the gold that were left in the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king’s house, and delivered them into the hand of his servants: and king Asa sent them to Benhadad, the son of Tabrimon, the son of Hezion, king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying, 1Kings 15:19 There is a league between me and thee, and between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent unto thee a present of silver and gold; come and break thy league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me. 1Kings 15:20 So Benhadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of the hosts which he had against the cities of Israel, and smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abelbethmaachah, and all Cinneroth, with all the land of Naphtali. 1Kings 15:21 And it came to pass, when Baasha heard thereof, that he left off building of Ramah, and dwelt in Tirzah. 1Kings 15:22 Then king Asa made a proclamation throughout all Judah; none was exempted: and they took away the stones of Ramah, and the timber thereof, wherewith Baasha had builded; and king Asa built with them Geba of Benjamin, and Mizpah. 1Kings 15:23 The rest of all the acts of Asa, and all his might, and all that he did, and the cities which he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? Nevertheless in the time of his old age he was diseased in his feet. 1Kings 15:24 And Asa slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father: and Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead. 1Kings 15:25 And Nadab the son of Jeroboam began to reign over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned over Israel two years. 1Kings 15:26 And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to sin. 1Kings 15:27 And Baasha the son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him; and Baasha smote him at Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines; for Nadab and all Israel laid siege to Gibbethon. 1Kings 15:28 Even in the third year of Asa king of Judah did Baasha slay him, and reigned in his stead. 1Kings 15:29 And it came to pass, when he reigned, that he smote all the house of Jeroboam; he left not to Jeroboam any that breathed, until he had destroyed him, according unto the saying of the LORD, which he spake by his servant Ahijah the Shilonite: 1Kings 15:30 Because of the sins of Jeroboam which he sinned, and which he made Israel sin, by his provocation wherewith he provoked the LORD God of Israel to anger. 1Kings 15:31 Now the rest of the acts of Nadab, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 1Kings 15:32 And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days. 1Kings 15:33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah began Baasha the son of Ahijah to reign over all Israel in Tirzah, twenty and four years. 1Kings 15:34 And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to sin.

NEW- Why am I still teaching Kings? I explain on video.
Just a few practical things here-
We see the heirs to the thrones [both Israel and Judah] and how their sons after them often follow the footsteps of their dads- but not in every case.
 Often times they do-
But turn it around- wait on the Lord- maybe for a season you will have to put the building project off- because of a fierce battle.
Fine- fight the battle- but don’t forget to get back to the task at hand.
You are a builder of the kingdom of God.
The rulers of this world did something- they crucified the Lord of glory-
But if they knew what they were doing at the time- they would have never done it-
 1 Corinthians 2:8
Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

But they were simply carrying out the foreordained will of God.
And in the end- it worked out well.
Genesis 50:20
But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
