Gummies, a short comic
(I’m no writer so bear with me)
Nika is acting strange
grabbing hold of the mechanic’s hand
Chuchu takes Nika to the Earth House dorms to see what’s up
Tumblr media
Once standing now her back suddenly against the floor
Chuchu realized
Tumblr media Tumblr media
she was the bottom of this relationship
Woah…Nika…
She’s on top of her
uniform unzipped
Where did the tie go?
The mechanic was leaning closer
she’s so…wobbly…ah…she fell over
Nika was now lying beside her making grunting noises
What’s gotten into her?! This isn’t like her at all…
“Nika-nee…”
Wait, what is that?
Tumblr media
What the hell?
Gummies?
Is this what’s causing her to act so strangely?
Where did she even get these?!
Chuchu glanced over at Nika
She’s sitting now
and…chewing something..!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She got it out
Nika on the other hand was now clenching Chuchu’s jacket tightly
She would NOT let go
Damn it Nika…
The mechanic brought the jacket down to Pom-Pom’s feet and pulled
Chuchu reluctantly stepped out of it as Nika kept pulling
The mechanic fell back, jacket in her grasp
Ah…she took my jacket…
Chuchu raised a hand to reach out towards Nika to give it back
but she was hugging it dearly
no clear sign of giving it up
Chuchu blushed
Cute…
She turned around, scratching the back of her neck
Well, it can’t be helped..
She looked back at Nika who was rubbing her face all over her pink jacket
Nika…
Chuchu walked over to her mechanic
squatting down, arms over her knees
Nika fell over to her side, giggling with the jacket in her face
Chuchu chuckled,
“You’re so drunk, Nika-nee.”
This wasn’t the time to play around though
even Chuchu knew that
She placed her hands under Nika and lifted her up
carrying her in her arms
Yeah she can carry her
Nika was taller but it wasn’t going to stop Chuatury Panlunch
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chuchu had notified the other Earthian girls via text to come to the dorms
She explained the situation and handed the near-empty bag of gummies to Aliya
Lilique placed her hands on her knees and looked down at a now sleeping Nika
She was worried
Nika wasn’t looking too good
The three knew they couldn’t take Nika to the nurse’s office
They would get in so much trouble for having these kind of gummies on campus
knowing they wouldn’t even get a chance to explain because they’re Earthians
then again
How did Nika even get these? There’s no way she’d eat these if she knew what was actually in them
Did she not notice the taste? Well, Chuchu didn’t know how they tasted like
For all she knows they could taste the same as regular gummies or even better!
Someone must have given these to Nika, saying they were just normal fruity gummies
Chuchu was going to get to the bottom of this
but for now
she’s going to stay by Nika’s side and look after her

Gundam: The Witch From Mercury Season 2 Episode 6 Review
- Suletta needs to learn proper coping techniques fast. Just ignoring the problem doesn’t make it go away. All that does is let it build up inside you until you snap. However, since the very beginning, Suletta has acted as a doormat, letting people walk all over her without speaking up for herself. She deserves to be sad, she deserves to be angry. Being a people-pleaser will only just tear her apart more. Luckily, both Chuchu and Eri realized this, and while Chuchu went about it the healthier way, it was good of Eri to finally cut off Suletta. She needs to establish a life outside of being Aerial’s pilot. It might have been what she was made for, but fuck destiny and parental expectations! Live your own life tanuki!
- Earth House claiming the best supporting character spots simply by recognizing what’s wrong with Suletta and actually acting on it, especially Chuchu. She pushes Suletta to express her true feelings and makes the plan to go see Miorine so she can explain herself. She’s grown up from the violent little doggy she was before. She uses her anger to push her forward, but she isn’t letting it take over her like Norea
- Poor Lauda is projecting his insecurities onto Suletta (though he isn’t really wrong.) He’s dedicated his life and self worth into supporting his brother, much like Suletta with Aerial, and now that Miorine’s the one by his side, he feels empty. He needs to come into his own as person and separate himself from his brother. I can only hope his adorable girlfriend Petra can help him through these times.
- Lauda and Felsi thanking Chuchu made me weak. They’re so honorable. But what shot me in the heart was Felsi’s smile and look back at Chuchu before she ran off. She loves that poofy girl so much. I’d love to see the two go to Earth and fight together
- I feel so bad for Martin. He did the right thing in reporting Nika because she never explained herself despite him giving her multiple chances, and he wanted to protect the rest of his friends. Dude’s carrying a heavy weight on his shoulders, but his little therapy session just made it worse.
- WHAT THE FUCK SECELIA!
- Girl created a whole catholic confession booth on the school to figure out the student’s dirty secrets. Interesting thing though, is that it’s Rouji’s Haro instead of the normal ones. The normal Haro’s are connected to the authorities and report everything but since Rouji’s is custom, it probably doesn’t have that feature. And is Secelia doing this just because she likes gossip or because she’s now taking her job seriously and wants to weed out any dangerous individuals? Or is the Burion House sort of like a secret police that monitors everyone?
- Shaddiq ONCE AGAIN is a total snake, but he’s definitely bit off more than he could chew by meeting with Prospera. If Shaddiq is two steps ahead of our main cast, Prospera is at the top of the stairs ready to push him down
- Peil House is the worst group of people I’ve ever seen in my life. They literally just let a computer decide the fates of orphaned children and pick out which ones they’ll experiment on. Elan Prime was lucky. He could have ended up another Enhanced Person if fate decided to be a dick. Which probably only makes El5n even more pissed. Like, he could have been the special one, but instead some computer decided he wasn’t important enough
- Speaking of El5n, my beloved, tight lips my ass. Bro just spilled the whole tea on Peil to two random fugitives. Shows just how much he hates them. But poor Nika wasn’t expecting to have to deal with all that and now she’s floundering. Maybe she’ll start working on Gundams that don’t kill people. Also El5n calling out Norea and pointing out the similarities between each other all while she’s trying to stab him is hot and I ship them so hard. Nika should ask Sabina for a separate room or she’ll be witness to their hatefucking
- Finally we see the Schwarzette! There’s been so much discussion about this suit, what it was or who would pilot it, and now we get to see it in all its glory. We’ll have to see if the AI will take on the Permet strain or if it’ll hurt the pilot.
- If this anime wasn’t political already, then we’re about to get sooooo political. Miorine is gonna have a hard time connecting with the rioters considering her position and personality. Maybe Guel will be able to help her navigate, and maybe even use his Dawn of Fold connections. Personally, if they want to help, I think setting up field hospitals would be the first best step but that’s just me
- The swole chad Kenanji has now joined the group and I’m so excited. Bro was hyped up in the prologue and then dropped off the face of the earth. But considering he’s on the same spaceship as Prospera, I don’t think he’ll be getting out of it alive
- Eri’s a savage. She allowed Suletta to come to her just to tell her she’s ditching her. Like, I know she’s trying to help, but she could have been gentler. And activating the Permet really didn’t help either.
- Prospera actually does something nice and stops using Suletta for her revenge. But she still doesn’t explain anything and this leaves Suletta a sobbing broken mess out in space. Truly the mother of the year. But the way she defers to Eri shows that ultimately, she’s a broken woman who just wants her daughter back. Everything she’s done is all so she can be with Eri again, ignoring the thousands of people she’s trampled
Next episode is gonna be painful as well. I don’t expect good things to happen on Earth, especially not since karma magnet Guel and warcrime MILF Prospera are there. Also since Shaddiq was the title vocalist, maybe we’ll get more of his backstory?

# yours, and maybe mine 🥟
it had started to drizzle a bit on your walk to suna's house, your sneaker soles lightly slapping against the concrete as you pick up your pace.
"i'm home!" you call giggling from where you take your shoes off in the suna household's entryway. the kuromi slippers you use already set out (they match rin's younger sister's ridiculously pink my melody ones).
"welcome home!" suna's mom calls from the kitchen, you can hear the smile in her voice.
she has her back to you, her hands busy as she prepares something. with a closer look you realize she's wrapping dumplings.
"rintaro put saori down for a nap a bit ago, he probably fell asleep himself. she had a bit of tantrum early today. they're probably in his room if you wanna check on him." she says, giving you a smile over her shoulder.
"i'll just take a peek, and then come help with dinner."
you leave the kitchen to walk your way to rintaro's room opening the door gently as you step inside.
saori is curled underneath the comforter while rin lays next to her on top of it. his hand is tucked into his shirt, resting on his abdomen, while his other arm is used as his sister's pillow.
you lean over him to brush his hair out of his face and as of he can sense your presence his eyes slowly blink awake.
"you're here." he mumbles, more statement than question, his hand moving from his stomach to wrap around your wrist.
"hi," you say softly.
"chuchu." he replies, a sleepy smirk on his lips.
you lean closer to give your boyfriend a kiss, but turn your head at the last second. his lips brushing your cheek.
"my lipgloss, sorry rin."
you move to face him but not before he gives your cheek a playful bite. a laugh rumbling through his chest as you try to stifle the yelp that threatens to spill from your mouth.
"brat." you hiss at him in a low voice, still mindful of his sleeping sister.
"your brat." he replies easily, moving his hand to rest on your hip.
you roll your eyes despite the smile on your face, basking in rintaro's sleepy warmth for a few moments before pulling away.
"i'm gonna go help your mom in the kitchen, wake saori up in a bit okay?"
he hums in affirmation as you slip out of the room.
wrapping dumplings with suna's mom is therapeutic, you love her company and how she's always treated you as part of her family.
rin pads into the kitchen just as you finish setting the table, a sleepy saori in his arms her head rested against his shoulder.
when her eyes find you she wiggles in his grasp and reaches for you, squeezing her body tight around you once you take her in your arms.
"i missed you so much, oneechan!" she says happily, leaning back to look at you.
"i missed you more!" you reply with just as much enthusiasm, "hurry and wash your hands so we can eat dinner together." you continue, setting her on her feet. she races off in the direction of the bathroom.
"i'll get your dad from his study," rin's mom announces, leaving you alone in the kitchen with your boyfriend.
as soon as his mom turns the corner rintaro's arms wrap around you, a hand coming up to grip your jaw so he can press a few quick kisses to your lips.
"you're so," you sigh before continuing, " spoiled."
he merely shrugs before licking your sticky gloss from his lips. "what flavor is this? i think it's my new favorite."

Adolescence is the period of transition between childhood and adulthood. It includes some big changes—to the body, and to the way a young person relates to the world (Allen & Waterman, 2019). The adolescence period is classified into three (3) stages; the Early, Middle, and Late Adolescence. The early adolescence occurs with children aging from 10-13 years old. This is the stage where children grow rapidly, and this is where they feel an increased need for privacy, they seek for ways of independence. The second stage is the middle adolescence, this occurs with teens aging from 14-17. This is where physical changes of puberty continue. And teens aging from 14-17 become interested in romantic and sexual relationships at this stage, this is also where teens argue more often with his/her family and develop and be attached more with his/her peers, and this is also where the brain continues to change and teens start getting matured. And the last stage of adolescence is late adolescence, which occurs from ages 18-21 and beyond. This is where late adolescents completed their physical growth, and have grown to their full adult height. This is also where they have more impulse control and have become more mature, and they now have their own sense of individuality.
Through these stages in adolescence, we will experience numerous numbers of challenges. Challenges with yourself, family, friends, and with other people. And in this blog, we, my colleagues and I, will share to you our own challenges and what we have learned during our adolescence stage. First, let’s call her by the name Jade and this is her story.
This happened around the year 2016-2017, it took place when I was in first year highschool. When I was in 5th grade in elementary I had this best friend, let’s call her ‘Grace’, and when I was in 6th grade of elementary I also had these best friends by the name ‘Jessie’ and ‘Alliyah’. The four of us were best of friends. Since now and then I easily trust other people, which is one of my personality traits that I dislike. We were very close. Friends who does not keep a secret. Friends who trust each other. Friends who have each other's back. But that’s only what I thought with our friendship. In the middle of the school year, I was confused why some of our classmates knew some of my secrets. It’s like they knew some information about me that they shouldn’t know. In the middle of the school year I found out that the friendship I knew is gone. That it was all a deception. That whenever I turn my back at them, they do things against me. When I knew all that I couldn’t understand what I should feel and do. It was the very first time in my life that this happened, deception. At that very moment, the only thing I felt was hurt. I was hurt with the deceiving they did. But what I do not understand at that time is why I wasn’t mad despite of what they did to me. And even thinking about it now, I couldn't feel anger or hatred. I was betrayed that time but besides the emotion of being hurt, I do not feel anything else.
Maybe the reason I did not feel any anger or hatred at that time is because I believe that it happened for a reason. I forgave them despite what they did, and even though they did not ask for my forgiveness. And true to say, after forgiving them for what they did, my friendship with ‘Grace’ became stronger, but my friendship with ‘Jessie’ and ‘Alliyah’ was not like before but I can still say that we are close friends. Our bond became stronger despite of what happened although we found our own friends. As childish as it may seem, this experience taught me so much. This experience taught me not to hold a grudge to anyone despite the wrongdoing they did to you. Holding a grudge to someone will not cause any good thing, once you resent someone, you will feel like something is holding you back from being truly happy. It is only right to forgive someone no matter what they did to you, because once you forgive someone your life will be happier and easier. You will feel like something was lifted from your heart. You will feel more at ease and you know that you will not regret anything. For me, the best thing you can do in this world is to forgive and be forgiven. It is only right to forgive someone despite what they did to you because the lord God forgave us for all the sin we did with no doubt, no matter how bad it is. Forgiving and trusting a person again is not a sign of being foolish, but rather it is a sign of our endless love, and a sign of showing care and affection towards other people.
The next story will be from, let’s call her by the name ‘Stella’. First day of school and I was enrolled in a public school. In my first section, my life was peaceful. No one was bullying me at first. But when they transferred me to a different section, it is where it all started. At first, there was still nothing, but when someone befriended me, i thought she treated me as a true friend, but I was wrong. She suddenly told me to ask for 100 pesos from my mother. She told me that I should pretend that it was needed for school related expenses. And when I won’t follow what she says, she’ll report me to her sister. I got scared that time and I don’t want any trouble, that’s why I did what she told me. During the Christmas party, I received a small hello kitty clock. And then she threatened me again that if I did not give her money she’ll report me to her sister. And I got scared again so I did what she wanted. I did as she told me, I asked my mother for 200 pesos pretending that it was meant for school expenses. But my mother was wondering why I kept asking for money, and so she went to the school and talked to my teacher. And my teacher is also confused because she’s not asking for any payment. Then my mother asked me who told me to do such things, and then I told her everything, and she got mad so she asked the teacher to transfer me to the front seat so that she won;t bully me again. The next day I got hospitalized, and i wasn’t able to go to school for a long time. And when I got back to school,my mother always gave me packed snacks. And then suddenly, a guy accused me of spilling my juice on the floor, although I’ve thrown mine in the trash can. And also when I got back from the restroom, someone wrote at the back of the notebook ‘Stalla love chuchu’ and then they kept teasing me even though I did not because I was in the restroom that time. What I have learned in this experience is to trust God or you should prefer to focus on God's words, or focus on your studies. And it is not important whether you consider having a friend or not. But then you will be surprised that someone will approach you and treat you as a real friend.
This time, ‘Julia’ will share hers. Many of us encounter challenges in our adolescence, just like me I have encountered changes in different aspect of myself - physically, metally, and with my social behaviour. One of the challenges I experienced was having a low self-esteem. I remember the nights when I always ask myself how unimportant I am, questioning my self-worth everyday were the hardest days in my life. lt is not easy to find your worth if you have a low-self esteem. l also remember when my self worth is based on what other people say to me, think of me, or how they act  towards me. Also in school, my mindset was  always say I can't do this, I can’t do that, especially in reporting, that’s why I hate reporting before and I don't have enough courage and confidence in everything I want to do. Also in recitation I always doubt my answers. That's why I don’t raise my hands. Even activities that need exposure I also hate that.
But now I can say that I overcame this challenge and I am thankful to those people who helped me to get through this trial..One of the reasons I overcome this challenge is through positive relations with others. It’s a great help to be friends with positive and optimistic people because they help us to think of ourselves better. They help us to be the better version of ourselves. People who surround us are important because they have a great impact on us because there is a great possibility that we will adapt the way they think or/and act. That’s why one of my advice to those people who’s going through the same challenge or experience is to choose a person who can help you in growing. Be wise on choosing the person you want to be with.
This last sharing will be from ‘Jay’. One of my challenges as an adolescent is that many young people are now seeing me as their role model. This challenge gives me a constant pressure in what I do almost every time. I do not want them to see a mischievous role model or they will copy that. So I think of a possible solution that will make me a good role model to young people. So I make good things as my habit like helping other people when they need it. I become responsible when I have a task to do and I follow the orders of older people also so that the young people will know what they should do from my actions
Every challenge we encounter contributes to the way we think and act. These challenges contribute to our maturity, it teaches us behaviour that will influence our way of thinking and behaving. These challenges are what build ourselves. So when you face these challenges, not only during your adolescence stage but throughout your life, do your best to overcome and surpass them. Embrace, accept, and overcome these challenges. It is the only way you can get through them. And once you have overcome these challenges you will start seeing the world in a different way. Take these challenges as an opportunity for yourself to grow. EMBRACE. ACCEPT. OVERCOME.

A New World Chapter 15: Center Stage
Author Note: There’s some stuff going on with RAS in this chapter, which I might consider expanding on more with a spin off at some point.
First Chapter Previous Chapter
__________________________________________________________
It was a hot, stifling summer afternoon. When Ako and her friends reached their destination, it was a relief to escape the heat.
The mall was cool, but it was unpleasantly warm again inside the arcade. Ako, Rokka, and Asuka had come straight after school, taking the train before walking the final stretch.
Ako was super excited to go; she’d even made sure to bring all of the pocket change she’d been saving. When she found a coin under her desk at school today, that was just an extra bonus.
She led the way inside, looking around with wide eyes at all the flashing games. A wave of noise washed over her, as each game competed for her attention. She hadn’t been here in a while, so there were definitely some new ones.
“Where should we start?” Ako asked, spinning to see more of the arcade. There was a cool new light gun game, oh and a taiko drum game that looked super awesome. She couldn’t ignore the claw machines either. Those large plush animals were too fluffy to resist.
“Why don’t we make a loop?” Asuka suggested, gesturing to the right side of the arcade. The light gun games were over that way, which Ako absolutely wanted to try.
“Let’s go!” Ako pumped one fist in the air, turning to follow the suggested path.
The three teens only made it about ten feet before they stopped at one of the games. It was a large machine with two huge screens, with a large table in front it. A light gun was hooked up on each side, painted in bright neon colors. An indent near the bottom of each side housed a pedal, likely for taking cover in the game.
Rokka stepped up to one of the guns, picking it up confidently. Ako took to other, pointing it at the screen with both hands.
“Have you played this before?” Asuka asked as she stepped up between them.
“Nope.” Ako leaned down to insert a hundred yen coin. Then she took position, ready to fire at the game.
Rokka did the same on her side. “Just once before, when I came with Masuki-san.”
“Oh?” Asuka arched one eyebrow. “How’s it been going with her?”
“T-the same as before.” Rokka almost dropped her light gun as she stumbled over her words. Ako glanced over at her, confused by her reaction. She already knew that Rokka was spending more time with Masking this year, but that was the stutter of someone with secrets to spill.
Ako would’ve asked what she meant by that if Rokka hadn’t fired her light gun at the screen, starting the game before Ako could ask.
A tutorial started to play on both screens, pulling Ako’s attention to it. She learned how to make her character duck behind cover, how to reload her gun, and how to shoot at enemies. It was all easy; though this was a new game, she’d played this type many times before. Her skill level was definitely an A+!
Then it threw her and Rokka into the fray, with waves of enemies spawning around them. Ako fought as hard as she could, shooting every enemy in sight. That didn’t stop them from shooting back at her. It was hard to remember to duck into cover until it was too late.
Before long, her hp had hit zero. The screen flashed with ‘continue?’ as a timer counted down. Ako set her light gun down, perhaps some other time she’d try again.
Rokka, on the other hand, was still going strong. She had about half her health and looked dead serious as she expertly dodged the enemies.
“Gettem!” Ako cheered her on as she made a kill. Asuka had moved to Rokka’s other side and was rooting for her as well, though much more quietly than Ako.
When Rokka made it to the next boss, her fortunes started to change. The boss kept destroying her cover, forcing her to fire out in the open. It hit her a few times, which marked the end of her run. The same ‘continue?’ message appeared, taunting the player to add just one more coin.
Rokka placed the light gun in its holster with a smile. “This one is pretty good.” She said, before asking Asuka if she wanted to try it, but the other teen said she’d pass for now.
The three walked away from the machine, continuing their circle around the arcade. They next approached the crane games, all full of large prizes.
They stopped at one full of medium sized figures, where Asuka tried to bump one from its stand. Rokka and Ako watched with wide eyes as she nudged it, but unfortunately it remained right in exactly the same spot.
As Asuka put in another coin to try again, Rokka reached in her pocked to pull out her phone. She had been smiling before, yet she grimaced as she looked down at the screen. She tapped on the bottom of her phone with both thumbs, probably texting someone, before putting it back in her pocket.
Rokka pulled out a folded piece of paper from that same pocket, looking up at Ako. Ako wasn’t paying any mind to her, as she was engrossed with Asuka’s second failure at getting the figure.
“Hey, Ako.” Rokka called her name quietly, barely loud enough to be heard over the noise of the arcade.
Ako still heard her, though she wasn’t sure exactly what she said. “What is it?”
“Is Roselia busy two Sundays from now?” Rokka’s hand, the one holding the folded paper, fidgeted with the corner of it.
“Hmm, lemme check.” Ako took her phone out and opened the master calendar, clicking to the asked about date. “Just rehearsal, why?” Sunday was usually the best day for the whole band to practice together.
Now Rokka lifted the paper, holding it out to Ako. “RAS is playing at a summer festival. One of the bands dropped out, do you think Roselia would want to perform?”
Ako accepted the paper, unfolding it. It was a colorful flyer, advertising a summer music festival featuring local bands. “I have to ask, but that would be awesome!” Ako snapped a photo of the flyer and sent it to the Roselia group chat.
“RAS wants us to play with them!” Ako typed after sending the photo.
“Looks interesting. If we cancel practice we could do it.” Sayo replied quickly, as usual. It seemed like she was on board.
Rinko was next. “It looks like fun.”
“We haven’t performed in a while.” Lisa chimed in. “What do you think Yukina?”
Yukina could be seen typing for a few moments, slower than the others. “This will be the next step on our path.” After all these years, Ako knew that was a yes.
“Yay!” Ako added a smiling emoji.
“Ako, can you get the organizer’s contact information?” Lisa asked an important question; they would need that to get everything ready.
“For sure.”
Ako grinned as she looked back up at Rokka, who was waiting for her to finish texting. “Roselia is in!”
Rokka nodded once, still with a hint of unease in her expression. “Chuchu will be happy.”
“I’m so excited to play on the same stage as RAS again!” They hadn’t performed at the same venue since early last year. The contest had been stressful, but Ako had loved every minute of it. Oh, right Ako was supposed to ask something. “Do you have the contact info for the event organizer?”
“Yes, one moment.” Rokka took her phone back out, clicked a few times, then showed the screen to Ako. It had a name and phone number on it, which Ako texted directly to Lisa.
After sending it, Ako glanced back up at Rokka. She was looking at her phone, a frown again in place on her lips. Ako wondered what was bothering her, was it something to do with RAS? She never got to ask about Masking earlier too.
Ako opened her mouth to ask, but was once again interrupted by a loud voice.
“Yes!” Asuka exclaimed, startling Ako. Rokka flinched and gave a small ‘eep’ of surprise at the noise. They both turned back to Asuka and saw that she finally succeeded at knocking the figure off the platform.
“Great job!” Rokka recovered quickly and stepped closer to Asuka as she leaned down to retrieve her prize. She seemed to have snapped out of whatever funk she was in.
Ako joined them, stowing her questions for now.
Her phone buzzed in her pocket, which was Lisa thanking her for the info. Roselia’s group chat soon blew up with discussion about a set list.
There was an excitement running through Ako as she read the discussion, a rush of energy. They had a little over two weeks to prepare for the live; she was going to make it great!
______________________________________________________
Today was the big day, the day of the summer festival. Ako had been practicing super hard for the last two weeks to get ready, refining her technique and making sure to play perfectly in time. The band had even squeezed in extra practices to get ready, though they were mostly with only part of the band.
They decided to wear their original stage outfits for today, since it was the band’s classic look. Ako made sure to try it on ahead of time and worked with Rinko to adjust it for her new height.
On the day of the event, Ako left the house with plenty of time to spare. Tomoe was planning to go as well with the rest of Afterglow, but Ako had too much energy to wait.
She carried her costume and drumsticks carefully as she took the train to the venue. It was being held on an outdoor stage at a park, with 6 different band performing over the course of the day. The weather was cooler today, though still moderately hot. Raise A Suilen would perform second, while Roselia was scheduled fifth.
Ako wanted to go early so she wouldn’t be late, so she didn’t have to wait around the house, but there was more to it than that. She also wanted to watch RAS perform; their music was always a lot of fun to listen to. The way they worked the crowd was inspirational.
The park was already bustling when Ako arrived, with many people milling around. Ako weaved through them to reach the backstage area, where she stored her costume and drumsticks in Roselia’s tent. Sayo’s costume was already back there.
Then, Ako headed back out into the crowd. If Sayo’s costume was here she must’ve been too, so she looked for a splash of light blue hair. As expected, she was able to find that distinct color in the crowd.
Surprisingly, there were two individuals there with it. Sayo and Hina were both near the back of the venue, standing together and talking. Ako weaved past a few people to reach them.
“Good morning, Udagawa-san.” Sayo greeted her as she approached. Hina waved as well. “You’re awfully early.”
“Hi!” Ako stopped in front of them. “I was so excited; I couldn’t just stay at home!”
“Me too!” Hina beamed, her smile practically stretching from ear to ear. “I can’t wait to hear Onee-chan play!”
Sayo flushed slightly. “Hina, please remember there are people around.” Indeed, a few of the audience members had turned to stare.
“Oh, sorry.” Hina clamped one hand over her mouth, giggling as she did.
The conversation shifted to the other bands playing today. Besides Roselia and RAS, there were four others. One was from Sayo’s school and often performed there. Ako hadn’t heard of the others, but she was still excited to hear them play.
Rinko arrived next, appearing in the group without a word. Afterglow came over to say hi when they got there, but they only stayed for a minute. They were determined to get a good spot near the stage.
Lisa and Yukina walked up ten minutes before the first group was set to perform. The band decided they would stay to watch through RAS, then they’d head backstage. They stood in the corner, where it would be easier to slip away.
The crowed had completely filled up, with at least a thousand people packed into the park. They cheered as the first band came on stage, waving multi-colored penlights in the air.
Ako cheered too, waving her arms to the music. This band was great! Their music almost seemed to fly by, as they rolled through one song after another. Their drummer was particularly good, hitting some impressive patterns.
Before Ako knew it, it was time for RAS. They came on stage to a flurry of cheers.
The audience had grown even more since the start of the concert. Chuchu called out to the audience to introduce them. She named each member as they played a solo, with Pareo introducing her last.
Ako had seen them do this many times, but it still impressed her to this day. She probably had stars in her eyes as she cheered at the start of their first song.
They opened with Hell or Hell, which was one of Ako’s favorites, before hyping up the crowd through Unstoppable and A Declaration of XXX.
Ako tried to ask Rokka how things were with the band at school last week, after they didn’t get to talk about it at the arcade, but Rokka insisted that everything was fine. Based on the strength of this performance, Ako could only believe that to be true.
Despite any trouble the band might’ve been having, their music came together perfectly. Ako mostly watched the drums, noting Masking’s excellent technique.
When RAS finished, it was time for Roselia to head backstage. Hina wished them luck as they walked away.
Immediately upon reaching the back, the band found themselves face to face with RAS. They had just come off the stage and must’ve been heading to their tent.
“Minato Yukina.” Chuchu was covered in sweat from having just performed in the heat, yet she still had the energy to point directly at Yukina. “There’s no way your stage outshines ours!”
Yukina’s expression was impassive as always. “We will see.” She replied simply, before brushing past the band.
“You were amazing!” Lisa called as the rest of the band followed her. Ako looked back to shoot them a thumbs up and a grin.
As Roselia reached their tent, they could hear the next band starting to play. They quickly changed into their outfits for the show and prepared their instruments. Ako only needed her drumsticks, since she would use the drum set on stage.
The tent was soon full of the sounds of the band, of Yukina warming up, Sayo tuning her guitar, and Lisa practicing one last song. Rinko would use the keyboard on stage as well, so she was taking the time to stretch her fingers.
Once they were ready, they circled up. Ako leaned in between Rinko and Lisa in the circle, with one arm around each of them.
“This is our first performance of the new year.” Yukina took the lead in the huddle. “Let’s show them our devotion.”
Ako nodded, prepared to do just that. She looked around at her band members, who each wore expressions of determination.
The band broke the circle and left the tent, heading to where they were supposed to wait. The fourth band had just started, so soon it would be their turn.
They had to wait a little, but their turn did come. After the previous band finished and left the stage, Roselia went up the steps to take their place.
The crowd cheered loudly, with purple penlights on full display. Ako waved broadly at the audience, before sitting down at the drums. She adjusted the seat quickly and checked that the drum set was in the right spots. On the other side of the stage, Rinko had finished doing something similar.
After moving one of the snares, Ako looked over at Yukina. The vocalist was waiting for that cue.
“We are Roselia.” Yukina introduced the band to the audience. “Our first song is Black Shout.” With that, Ako counted off and the band started to play.
They chose Black Shout as the opener since it was one of their most well known songs. Ako played it confidently, hitting her parts exactly right. She even used the new technique she’d been refining. This was great, she was playing perfectly.
There was a problem though, as Ako turned her ears towards her bandmates something felt off. The audience was still roaring, but something sounded wrong. Ako kept her smile pasted on her face as she glanced over towards Rinko. She wondered if Rinko could feel it too.
Rinko was still smiling as well, but it looked strained. She met Ako’s gaze for a moment, so Ako cued the next down beat with a larger motion.
For a moment, that made the feeling go away. But it didn’t stay gone.
The piano felt off. It wasn’t just the piano, the guitar, the bass, and the vocals too. It felt like the band was bursting out in every direction, pulling the music their way. Ako stayed in the center of that, keeping the beat. Their sound was completely different than before, something new and scary.
Sayo had turned back towards her, lips drawn in a tight line. Ako cued her as well, hoping that would help.
It didn’t.
The band felt unstable, like it was on the verge of tearing. Ako knew that wouldn’t happen, that every member of her band was capable of staying together no matter how strange they sounded. No matter how they clashed in this moment, they could still play Black Shout together.
They continued on to the next song. The crowd cheered even louder. They had especially enjoyed the guitar solo.
Ako wondered if the crowd couldn’t hear it, or perhaps it was in her imagination. No, as Lisa as well looked for a cue she normally would’ve hit without help, Ako knew the problem was real. The rest of the band could feel it too.
The second song ended and they continued on to the next. Some songs felt better than others, while some felt far worse. Ako fought to keep her smile up the entire live, which became even harder with the heat of summer.
The crowd was still cheering loudly when they finished their final song, still enthusiastically waving their penlights in the air.
Roselia bowed and thanked them, before leaving the stage. Ako wasn’t sure what to think about their performance, or how to feel. They walked back to their tent in silence.
Once inside, Ako stopped by the entrance. She couldn’t just hold in her words. “What happened out there?” She asked, looking between her bandmates.
Sayo and Lisa were both putting their instruments away. Rinko had her hands held together, while Yukina stood with her arms crossed.
“I-I’m not sure…” Rinko muttered.
“We were out of sync.” Sayo cut in, glaring up from her guitar case.
Yukina’s eyes narrowed. “We shouldn’t have been.” Her stare was heavy.
Lisa finished zipping her bass case, then turned towards the rest of the band. “We need to talk about it.” She said, eyes landing on Yukina. Even she was not smiling. “Let’s meet next Sunday, instead of band practice. We’ll figure this out.” That was probably the next time they would all be free again.
“Alright.” Yukina acquiesced without a fight. “I’m going to watch the last band.” With that she turned and exited the tent, leaving the other band members behind. Lisa sighed as she watched her go.
Ako stepped over to Rinko, who was now wringing her hands together. “We should do that too.” At least it could take their minds off of their performance.
Rinko nodded and followed Ako as she started to walk away. Sayo and Lisa remained in the tent.
They didn’t go back out to the audience, since they were still in costume, but they watched the last band from backstage. Yukina was nowhere to be found. Hina came past as they watched, likely looking for Sayo. The sixth band was excellent, as expected.
It didn’t succeed at distracting Ako from her thoughts. She could only remember how Black Shout had sounded, how it had felt as the band pulled in different directions.
Next week they would debrief it. She couldn’t wait.
