Hiroto Sutou - A lesson in finding family

My favourite aspect of Go-Ongers "found family" vibes is how its used to add depth to Hiroto's character. (I also have a lot of Miu thoughts but we will save that for another day lol)

While he initially comes across as a very judgemental, arrogant, rich bastard, it quickly becomes apparent that his personality is a defense mechanism. His need to perform tells us his parents probably never gave him the time of day (whether its singing/dancing/training, this boy LOVES being the centre of attention but HATES to admit it). Outside of his relationship with Miu, he's cold and aloof and hidden behind layers of emotional walls. "Family" is nothing but a chore for him, having to keep up appearances and "be what a Sutou is meant to be".

But then he meets the Go-Ongers, and they teach him what family is ACTUALLY meant to be. He goes from "I fucking hate these idiots why wont they leave me alone" to "these are MY idiots and I will cause physical harm to anyone that so much as looks at them wrong" and idk fam I just think thats the best character arc someone can have

Tiny Toku Tale #4: Go-Onger, Naptime

It was a beautiful day, Renn noticed absentmindedly, otherwise focused on driving Ginjiro to their next destination and trying not to listen to the arguments that were breaking out. The Sutou siblings were with them, saying that if the Go-Ongers were going somewhere new, they might as well come. He had to admit it was nice that they were acting like teammates, finally.

However, the arguments were getting to be too much. Renn wasn’t even sure why there were arguments, just that they seemed to be between Hiroto and Gunpei, and Sosuke and Saki, with Miu and Hant backing up Saki and Gunpei, respectively. He glanced at the map and saw that a field was coming up.

It didn’t take long to get there, and once they were there, Renn grabbed a bunch of blankets and ordered everyone out.

“Come on, everyone needs a nap, let’s go,” he said, gently nudging Hant out of the door.

“Yes, Mom,” Sosuke said with a roll of his eyes, laying a blanket down. Renn put his down next to Sosuke’s, slightly at an angle. Hiroto put a blanket down next to Renn, then Miu, Saki, Hant, and Gunpei back next to Sosuke, a circle with everyone’s head in the middle.

“This is a great day for this, Renn,” Saki said dreamily.

“Just! It’s time to get some rest,” Renn replied. “We can get back in the road once everyone gets some sleep.”

A snore from Sosuke was his response, making Hant giggle. Still, judging by everyone’s breathing becoming deep and even fairly fast, the Go-Ongers had needed the nap. Renn smiled slightly, closing his eyes and allowing the wind to lull him to sleep.
