Sound Bites Presents His Favorite Live Albums of 2022
Neil Young used “Union Man” to declare: live music is better.
That can sometimes apply to albums as well. And the year almost over featured a slew of terrific in-concert recordings.
What follows are Sound Bites’ favorites, going all the way back to Son House in 1964 and coming all the way up to Aoife O’Donovan in 2022.
The Beatles - Get Back - The Rooftop Performance - The 40-minute concert - remixed in stereo by Giles Martin and Sam Okell - is finally out as the digital-only Get Back - The Rooftop Performance. And though the Beatles had spent the previous few years proving themselves masters of the studio with LPs like Revolver and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Rooftop provides a glimpse of what a force they could’ve become as a live act. Full review here.
Aoife O’Donovan and the Age of Apathy Band - Live from the Hi•Fi - When O’Donovan says “We’re on fire up here,” after she and the Age of Apathy Band finish “Elevators,” she is referring to the weather. But she might as well have been talking about the music. Review.
The Jerry Garcia Band - GarciaLive Volume 19 - To call the Oct. 31, 1992, concert that comprises GarciaLive Volume 19 life-affirming is an understatement along the lines of saying Jerry Garcia enjoyed drugs. Review.
Todd Snider - Live: Return of the Storyteller - Few live albums - including 2011’s Live: The Storyteller - capture the essence of a performer the way Return of the Storyteller captures the essence of Todd Snider. Review.
Hot Tuna - 2021-12-29, Freight & Salvage, Berkeley, CA - This album is beautiful for many reasons. Not only because of the low-key, American-blues music, but because of the deep bonds of friendship between the players and the invisible thread that runs from the stage to the seating area and back. Review.
Creedence Clearwater Revival - At the Royal Albert Hall (April 14, 1970) - Fifty years after their breakup, Creedence Clearwater Revival remain so ubiquitous they - and their music - are often taken for granted. But as At the Royal Albert Hall reminds us, the band had not only a passel of stone classics, it was an outstanding concert act. Review.
Neil Young OBS 3: Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, 1971, and OBS 4: Royce Hall, 1971 - Recorded two nights apart in 1971 and released on the same day in 2022, Neil Young’s Official Bootleg Series Nos. 3 and 4 are very much the same - from setlists to warm, you-are-there sound. They’re aural time machines to the days when Young’s songbook was relatively thin and virtually no one had heard “Old Man.” Reviews.
Son House - Forever on My Mind - Only 50 or so people attended Son House’s Nov. 23, 1964, concert at Wabash College in Indiana. Although virtually one heard it at the time, everyone can hear it now. And they should. Review.
Grateful Dead - Madison Square Garden, New York, NY, 3/9/81 - Cocaine as rocket fuel. Review.
Zero - Naught Again - Despite the paucity of vocals and the long runtimes, these songs are intricately composed with tension and release where choruses and bridges would otherwise dwell. The tuned-in audience reacts accordingly and the result is an album that damn near succeeds in time travel and space-shifting. Review.
Mavis Staples and Levon Helm - Carry Me Home - Carry Me Home is at its core a religious album that doesn’t require religious ears for enjoyment. Yet, it’s so convincing, those ears may be halfway to the baptismal before the stylus hits the runout groove. Review.
Kris Kristofferson - Live at Gilley’s - Pasadena, TX: September 15, 1981 - Fans who weren’t there can now kinda be there with the release of Live at Gilley’s. The partial-show LP has just enough crowd noise to capture the excitement of the evening and the music proves Kristofferson was one of the rare artists not to fall victim to 1980s production and arrangement values. Review.

IMG: at approx. 10:11 AM, Bluefin security feed picked up strange percussive audio, as though someone was frantically beatboxing directly into a cam mic in order to record it. Investigation ongoing.
Tumblr media
“Status update: So, like, Red Flare District isn't doing too hot these days. Turns out the homeless bassist we found under a bridge was wanted for wanted for illegal data brokering, stole all our CD-ROMs and weedkiller and #$@%* bailed.” ... “Yeah, who'da thunk? And our frontman St. Tuna Piano is also wanted 'cuz apparently he, er, knew? The whole time?” ... ”Well, he's the frontman now. Was, at least. You missed a lot, Petr.” ... ”Anyway, he's holed up at a shack in Bluefin Depot and can't get away on account of all the commercialized inkspewing in the area. That's him beatboxing in the clip. Send help.”
— Hiddock, guitarist for Red Flare District, in a correspondence with band vocalist Petr following the latter's recovery from choking on a really, really spicy bell pepper.
Unfortunately, Petr was then swept up in the shopping frenzy of the Barnacle & Dime Big Run and has not been seen since. We fear he has been purchased by salmonid for ₡850.
(Extension and sample source list can be found on my YouTube)

Just another ‘may’ nic day caring about Jen - 3 for me!
- Lilith slept for a solid 7 hours last night! Before you write that off as no big deal… she’s only slept through the night ONE other time. She’ll be 5 in October. I woke up, and was completely discombobulated. I needed that sleep. Man I needed that sleep.
- I was able to do a quick mile on each of my 15 min breaks and 2 miles on my lunch - walking 4 miles during work doesn’t always happen. It was a gorgeous day, sun out, not too hot, a good breeze… I feel and function so much better when I can actually take my breaks and get some fresh air!
- good food today, had leftover tuna steak with homemade slaw, some peppers and dip for a snack and oranges to get in my sweet.
- 60 ounce of water, I had my typical amped up coffee and a kombucha. I did better on water today and I’ll have more under my belt before bed
- we realized last night that J had his year end musical performance/art show at school tonight. I thought it was next week and c said he forgot completely. It started at 6, and I don’t even get home until 6, C works Wednesday nights. I was able to get out 10 minutes early, run home, chris had fed the kids a snack and made us carrot sticks, apples, cheese and some turkey pepperoni in a lunch box to have there and on the way. My dad met us there.
It was a really cute performance, each grade has a song or band number, then they have a grade art project that is auctioned off to raise money for the art program. They did Frank Sinatra and the band played Star Wars while the conductor directed with a light saber. It was super fun and even dad had a great time.
- ran home, lunches sorted, clothes out, late bedtime, worth it though. The kids and I have started reading together, instead of separately. I do 2 books for Lils and more mature 2 books/part of a graphic novel for Jams. They seem to enjoy it and it’s such a special time snuggling with them.
- all in all, it’s been a success. I got sleep, food was on point - really amped up my veg which just is my thing - and hydrated the heck out of today.

Whatever It Takes: A Degrassi Season 10 Retrospective (You Don't Know My Name, Pt. 2)
Remember that HBO Degrassi reboot that was supposed to happen? It's cancelled, just like my interest in this episode. Let's get this out of the way so I can talk about things that actually facilitate entertaining commentary beyond making fun of the word "hoedown" (who am I kidding, I'm not getting any wittier than that).
Back at Degrassi, Drew struggles to write his own essay. His brother Adam snarks that maybe Drew should've turned in the paper Alli wrote for him after all. Drew is offended at the memory of Alli's betrayal, saying he doesn't appreciate being called stupid. What he's really saying here is he hates honesty.
KC runs through the list of different cliques Drew should consider picking a new girl from. Are cliques a real thing? In Catholic school, we just had a) popular girls b) semi-popular girls and c) girls like me, who didn't even make the senior year class montage slideshow. Drew likes the sound of a cheerleader and hits on Marisol, which is hilarious when you remember how he ends up hating her guts just one season later.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Fiona attempts to give Holly J an intervention in the hallway after Sav calls her "hot stuff." Holly J denies she has any feelings for him. Fiona reminds Holly J that she needs to marry Declan so they can become sisters--fitting, as Degrassi Takes Manhattan taught us that Fiona is rather fond of incest.
Tumblr media
Sav has a very different version of what's going on between the two. Peter, holding a rather negative view of Holly J (which isn't altogether unwarranted), grills him as to whether their kiss was "tight," "hot," and involved slapping. I think he's getting a little ahead of himself there.
Love is also blooming amongst our Three Tenners (for one of them, at least). Connor defends his online girlfriend, saying she's just as good as a real life one. Dave needles him into trying to move the relationship offline, which Connor eventually agrees to--just so that Dave can find out what a real date is like. Haha, fuck you Dave.
Drew and Marisol's date isn't going so well. Drew quickly realizes Marisol is just copying everything he does, including liking the band Hot Chip. I don't think that's a real band even in the context of Degrassi. He further tests this theory by ordering a tuna wrap with strawberry ice cream and garlic salt, which she also orders. Peter walks away in disgust, probably thinking these two were made for each other. Marisol tops it all off by literally saying "It's easier if I don't have to think for myself!" You know, maybe these two are made for each other.
Tumblr media
The Three Tenners arrive at the steakhouse for Connor's date with LoveQueen16, looking for a girl in a Realm of Doom shirt. In walks what appears to be a woman who looks more like a LoveQueen46. Connor wants to talk to her, but Wesley and Dave quickly drag him out.
Tumblr media
Speaking of romantic failures, Drew immediately runs back to Alli after realizing Marisol has the depth of a sheet of paper. He tries to win her back, but she's rightfully unmoved by such charming lines as "You win. I'll go to the dance with you" and "Does 'ugh' mean 'yes' in Hindi?" Alli's face says it all.
Tumblr media
Things are going a little better for Sav and Holly J. She arrives at the Dot to check out how Hoedown (.......ha) decor is going, and is so wooed by the wagon wheels and cowboy print tablecloths that she forgets everything she said about not liking Sav. This Hoe is Down bad.
Later, she gazes wistfully at photos of the two of them posted publicly on her FaceRange. Fiona warns Holly J that's she's probably just rebounding from Declan, which she denies. She then gazes wistfully at a photo of Declan.
Drew, meanwhile, has devised the perfect plan to woo Alli: have guys on the football team enact a skit in the hallway about how great he is. No one but Drew is impressed, and he is left to forlornly fondle his football.
Tumblr media
Having come Down from her Hoeing high, Holly J realizes what she needs to do. She returns to the Dot where Sav has been decorating by himself for hours instead of going to class. She tells him she’s not over Declan. He’s sad but unsurprised, but at least he has Jones Soda to comfort him.
Tumblr media
Later that evening, it’s finally times for the Hoes to go Down to the Dot to party. Drew is staring at Alli dancing with an NPC when Marisol pops in to flirt with him. He asks if it would be weird to request girl advice from her. Yes, yes it would be.
Tumblr media
Sav publicly thanks Holly J for making the dance possible, which is weird to me because it seems like he’s done 99% of the work. Holly J mostly just showed up to either kiss or dump him. Either way, she’s impressed by Sav’s farmer hat and flattery. They decide to have a casual thing for the six months to graduation. What’s really optimistic here is to assume a Degrassi relationship will even last six episodes.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Adam lures Alli to the photobooth. She’s annoyed to find Drew in there, which is the natural reaction. He finally tells her what he actually likes about her, which is basically that she’s smart in every way he isn’t (and that’s a lot of ways). Alli tries to say he’s people-smart, but I’m not sure about that after the whole self-aggrandizing football fiasco earlier. But whatever, they’re back together now. Woo.
Things wrap up the next day with Sav and Holly J in the student council room. They’re stunned when Fiona and Anya walk in, even though they weren’t doing anything particularly scandalous. They all stand around awkwardly with coffees until Sav asks if Fiona and Anya will help them count change from the dance. Fiona refuses because she doesn’t like touching Coynes. Not after last summer.
And that’s it. You know what? Fuck the long-winded analysis this time. I can’t pretend to care about this episode enough to act like there’s anything warranting me acting like I remotely know what the fuck I’m talking about. Drew and Alli are a bad couple. Holly J and Sav will—by their own admission—end their relationship by graduation at the latest. The only plot that comes close to being interesting is Connor’s middle aged cyber gf, and it barely gets any screentime here.
Enough. It’s taken me nearly a year to scrounge up the motivation to do this, and it’s solely so that I can move on to the rest of the season.

Here are some tips on maintaining a healthy lifestyle while sticking to your budget
Rising costs and high inflation continue to take a toll on Maritimers' wallets and their health.
According to Naturopathic Doctor Joyce Johnson, people don't have to spend a lot of money to optimize their health, even during these uncertain times.
Johnson provides a number of tips on how to maintain a healthier lifestyle while sticking to your budget.
MEAL PLANNING
Johnson says the best tool to eating healthy on a budget is meal planning.
"Meal planning is making a grocery list of what you need, what's on sale, there's a lot of really great apps that you can put onto your phone that show all the sale flyers. So, you can get a little bit of a comparison and you can find what are your best prices, especially on things like dairy, and meat and protein," she said during an interview with CTV Morning Live Atlantic Monday.
Johnson also suggests "shopping your pantry first."
"So, go to your pantry before you go to the grocery store. See what some of the basics are that you have on-hand, what potatoes and starches you have. Do you have pasta? Do you have rice? These types of things. Look at your proteins, look at what's sort of hiding in your [fridge] crisper," she said.
Johnson said it's also important to think about what leftovers can be turned into new meals.
PROTEIN REPLACEMENTS
The cost of certain meats are out of reach for some Maritimers. Johnson says there are lots of other options to make sure you are getting your fill of protein.
"When it comes to protein, for example, we know chicken breasts can be pretty expensive. Chicken thighs are still just as nutritious and they tend to be a little less expensive," she said. "They still have things like iron, zinc and protein in there. The same as flank steak compared to strip loin."
"You can get protein sources from eggs, also beans and lentils, and look to canned [items]. Canned tuna, canned salmon. These are other great sources."
INCORPORATE VITAMINS, SUPPLEMENTS
Johnson says taking vitamins and supplements can also help fill a gap in someone's nutritional intake.
As some can be quite expensive, she says Vitamin D and Omega-3 are the top two she would recommend.
"Vitamin D is pretty inexpensive when it comes to a vitamin. It has so many good important properties to it. Everything from bone building, it's that sunshine vitamin, it can be important for supporting your immune system, helping to boost moods even for people that are afflicted or affected by seasonal affected disorder," said Johnson.
"And Omega-3. So, this is one of those nutrients that the majority, a lot of people, are deficient in. They're not getting enough Omega-3 from their diet. So, you're looking at either a fish oil or a flax seed oil, if you're a vegan or vegetarian."
BETTER SLEEP SCHEDULE
Johnson says getting a good night's sleep is also important.
Some tips she provided to help include:
Take a hot bath before bed to help relax
Incorporate some deep abdominal breathing
Look for some guided sleep apps
Drop the phone time before bed
EXERCISE
Getting a form of exercise is also important when it comes to your health.
"Exercise doesn't have to be super expensive. It doesn't have to be a really expensive gym membership or classes," said Johnson. "Whatever works in your budget. Things that you could do at home, there are thousands of free videos, different types of classes, even pick up yourself something easy like resistant bands. You can use these for a full-body workout. You can train every part of your body with something as simple as this."
Johnson says there are also many different kinds of body weight exercises that cost nothing to achieve at home.
"I know sometimes the classes are a little bit extra motivation, but you know what, there's a lot of free trials that you can look into as well. There's options for you," she said.

Sound Bites Presents: the 2023 Live Music Year in Review
The year 2023 will go down in history as the year Sound Bites finally started seeing live music at something resembling a pre-pandemic clip.
In addition to attending Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in San Francisco, the blog - often accompanied by the long-suffering Mrs. Sound Bites - caught a slew of gigs by musicians he’d seen a couple of dozen times and many others for the first time. And as the years combine, Sound Bites realizes that soon he will be seeing more acts that are younger than him, rather than older.
But not yet. So here, then, is Sound Bites’ 2023 Live Music Year in Review presented in order from favorite to least-favorite gigs; all were in backward Oiho, unless otherwise indicated.
Los Lobos (22) at Midland Theatre, Newark, July 14 - Fifty years into their career, Los Lobos are still on any given night, the best live band in America. Review here.
Billy Strings (3) at Andrew J. Brady Music Center, Cincinnati, March 16 - Think rock-’n’-roll-bluegrass show. Review here.
Hawktail (1) at Holland Theatre, Bellefontaine, Jan. 21 - Hawktail is a genre as much as it is a musical group. Review here.
Rhiannon Giddens (3) with ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, Southern Theatre, Columbus, Jan. 19 - After 110 minutes and two sets, Giddens and the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra were out of songs. They’d given enough. Review here.
Robert Plant and Alison Krauss (2) at Rose Music Center at the Heights, Huber Heights, May 3 - Slightly less than flawless. Review here.
Tommy Emmanuel (3) with Jorma Kaukonen (6) at Southern Theatre, Columbus, Ohio, July 13 - “Damn, Tommy, I had to smoke a cigarette after that last song,” opener Kaukonen said at one point. He wasn’t the only one. Review here.
Eilen Jewell (1) at Natalie’s Grandview, Columbus, Sept. 10 - While Jewell makes good records, the self-described Queen of the Minor Key is at her best on stage. Review here.
Mighty Poplar (1) at Stuart’s Opera House, Nelsonville, Sept. 17 - They come from non-traditional places. But when they come together as Mighty Poplar, members of Watchhouse, Punch Brothers and Leftover Salmon embrace bluegrass tradition head on. Review here.
Los Lobos (23) at Hoover Auditorium, Lakeside, July 15 - Los Lobos treated the gated community of Lakeside to a swell, 1950s-themed dance party and the nearly 2,000 people who attended the gig responded in turn. Review here.
Darrell Scott (4) at King Arts Complex, Nicholson Auditorium, Columbus, May 13 - With a rare combination of musicianship and showmanship, coupled with a versatile voice that moves effortlessly from falsetto to baritone, Scott is a master solo tactician. Review here.
Blind Boys of Alabama (3) at Mershon Auditorium, Columbus, Nov. 15 - The voices change, but the Blind Boys of Alabama endure. And though the group that kicked off its tour in Columbus, Ohio, was different, one thing was the same: You always leave a Blind Boys show feeling better than you did upon arrival. Review here.
Lyle Lovett (6) and Leo Kottke (6) at Midland Theatre, Newark, Oct. 28, 2023 - Opposites attract for an engaging evening in Conversation and Song. Review here.
Yasmin Williams (1) Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, March 28 - Williams is the reason why the term see a concert - rather than hear a concert - remains in use. Review here.
Lyle Lovett (5) and His Large Band at Rose Music Center at the Heights, Huber Heights, July 26 - Lovett and his multi-genre band played comedic soul, ballroom balladry, blues, gospel and virtually every other style of American music as ragtime, Dixieland, bluegrass and more popped up across the band’s many improvisational interludes. Review here.
Dead & Company (13) at Rouff (Pronounced “Deer Creek”) Music Center, Noblesville, Ind., June 27 - The last - & best - Dead & Company show Sound Bites saw. Review here.
Toward the FUN(ds): A Concert Benefitting Camp Winnarainbow at Herbst Theatre, San Francisco, Calif., Sept. 28 - Seeing how they all were in town for separate appearances at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, Steve Earle, Rickie Lee Jones, Peter Rowan and John Craigie got together and donated some time to a guitar (and mandolin) pull to benefit Wavy Gravy’s Camp Winnarainbow. John Popper popped in, too. Review here.
Béla Fleck’s My Bluegrass Heart (2) at Midland Theatre, Newark, March 30 - This was music of flat picking, clipped chords, bowed bass and blazing solos. Everyone was in top form. Review here.
Jackson Browne (5) at Palace Theatre, Columbus, June 3 - Someone wanting to hear the records in a concert hall might say Browne is losing his edge. Someone out for the without-a-net experience might revel in the not-set-in-stone nature that led to myriad surprises. Review here.
Roger McGuinn (3) at Midland Theatre, Newark, Aug. 22 - There’s no need for McGuinn to write a book. His Songs and Stories With … tour is his autobiography. And hearing the man speak and sing about his incredible life and career is much more enjoyable than reading about it anyway. Review here.
Loudon Wainwright III (1) at Natalie’s Grandview, Grandview Heights, May 10 - With his shock of unkempt, white hair and his shirt collar askew, Wainwright resembled a mad lecturer as he spanned his vast songbook. Review here.
FERD (1) at Rambling House, Columbus, Nov. 11 - If you don’t know FERD, you don’t know modern, old-time music. Review here.
Hot Tuna (11) at Jorma Kaukonen’s Fur Peace Ranch, Pomeroy, April 22 - To the people facing the stage, it was music. But to the men on stage, it was the continuation of a conversation that’s been running 60 years now. Review here.
Weyes Blood (1) at Newport Music Hall, Columbus, Aug. 30 - With a knockout-gorgeous voice, a knack for writing what she calls “sad-ass” songs and a penchant for arrangements that harken to Pet Sounds-period Beach Boys and Mind Games-era John Lennon, Blood is, indeed, mellow. But she has a stage presence. Review here.
Tedeschi Trucks Band (12) at Palace Theatre, Columbus, March 21 - Comparing Tedeschi Trucks Band to other groups is unfair to other groups. Comparing Tedeschi Trucks Band to Tedeschi Trucks Band is similarly unfair to Tedeschi Trucks Band. Review here.
Dead & Company (12) at Riverbend Music Center, Cincinnati, June 13 - Not only did Company men outnumber Dead men on Dead & Company’s Final Tour, they also dominated the music. Review here.
Joan Osborne (4) at Memorial Hall OTR, Cincinnati, Nov. 18 - Joan Osborne the singer remains the centerpiece of everything Osborne the artist has to offer. Review here.
Tim O’Brien and Jan Fabricius (2) at Natalie’s Grandview, Columbus April 20 - Playing as a duo, O’Brien and Fabricius sounded like your uncle and aunt might if they entertained the family sitting around the campfire outside the cabin. Review here.
Tony Hagood Quartet (1) at Natalie’s Grandview, Columbus, Dec. 14 - Vince Guaraldi is long dead. But the Music of Vince Guaraldi is alive and swinging thanks in part to the Tony Hagood Quartet. Review here.
Southern Culture on the Skids (3) at Rumba Cafe, Columbus, Oct. 9 - Combining a love of rockabilly, surf music and straight rock ‘n’ roll with equal parts irreverence and earnestness, Southern Culture on the Skids is the rare band that can make such antics as inviting fans on stage to dance and toss fried chicken into the audience and delivering a no-jokes musicality entirely congruent. Review here.
Bruce Hornsby & the Noisemakers (11) at People’s Bank Theatre, Marietta, Sept. 14 - Hornsby and the band played a concert imbued with “strange stylistic pacing,” as Bruuuuuce put it. As it unfolded, the gig traversed peaks and valleys. Review here.
Steep Canyon Rangers (9) at Murphy Theatre, Wilmington, July 22 - Poor sound and rebuilding notwithstanding, the Rangers tapped into some of the old magic. Review here.
Buddy Guy (2) Christone “Kingfish” Ingram (1) and Ally Venable (1) at Rose Music Center at the Heights, Huber Heights, June 25 - Guy’s June 25 gig in a two-thirds-full Rose Music Center at the Heights was a torch passing of sorts as his 75-minute performance wrapped with the bluesman jamming alongside a pair of 24-year-old acolytes, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram and Ally Venable, who opened the evening with sets of 60 and 45 minutes, respectively. Review here.
Tim Heidecker & the Very Good Band (1) at Kemba Live!, Columbus , Aug. 14 - Comedian Tim Heidecker is a serious musician, a better musician than comic, in fact. Review here.
The String Cheese Incident (3) at Rose Music Center at the Heights, Huber Heights, Sept. 20 - With a night off from the Outlaw Music Festival, the veteran Colorado band rolled in to Southwest Ohio and proceeded to “expand a little bit.” Review here.
Chicago (14) at Rose Music Center at the Heights, Huber Heights, May 6 - Chicago has become a cover band. Review here.

Rules: Tag 10 people you want to get to know better!
Tagged by @emma-hahn and @corasorangejuice (omg you guys, thank youuuu! I loved getting to read your posts!)
Favorite time of the year: Autumn for sure.  I love the sunny days and the brisker weather and HALLOWEEN and I just love the pre-holiday time when we have the anticipation and the trees start to change but it’s not too dark or too cold yet and it’s just perfect.  We are almost getting to spooky season and I cannot wait.
Comfort foods: Macaroni and Cheese is my favorite food of all time, particularly the deluxe four cheese from Kraft and I add a little bit of truffle salt to it.  Other comfort foods for me are my mom’s ground turkey tacos and the grilled ahi tuna my dad does on the barbecue with the sauce my mom makes (sesame teriyaki with wasabi and sour cream all melted and magnificent)
Do you collect anything? I used to collect miniature snow globes and now I collect magnets whenever I travel.  And I don’t think books count as collecting but I live in a studio apartment and I have 3 enormous bookshelves and I need another one so maybe that counts.  Oh and I low key collect makeup products but I use all my insane shit so...
Favorite drink: Red wine probably.  But I love an old fashioned or other classic whiskey cocktails or a fruity vodka cocktail.  I mostly drink a lot of water day in and out.
Favorite music artists: Oh man okay get ready for a paragraph that no one will read.  I was raised on the big-voiced divas.  Barbra Streisand is the deity to whom I pray.  Celine Dion and Whitney Houston and Julie Andrews are how I learned how to sing when I was younger.  Bette Midler is deeply important to my soul, as is Cher (I basically have the taste of a middle-aged stereotypical gay man, it’s fine).  Liza Minnelli and Judy Garland and Patti LuPone.  Love a big belter.  And then if we get away from the showtunes and divas, I love almost anything from the 60s, especially Herman’s Hermits, The Beatles and all those fabulous Motown artists.  Peter, Paul and Mary and Patsy Cline are deep loves of mine.  Jim Croce (another reason for me to love Jim Hopper, he’s a Croce fan).  And then of course we have my all time favorite bands, ABBA and Fleetwood Mac.  Deep love of jazz standards singers, especially Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra (my whole family were jazz musicians so I was raised on Sarah Vaughn and the whole Rat Pack).  Also why I have such a love of Sadie and the Hot Heads and Michael Buble. Modern artists I love are Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Ed Sheeran, Walk the Moon, Lizzo, Lil Nas X, Sugarland, Michael Buble, P!nk, Miley Cyrus, Maroon 5, Lady Gaga, Kesha, Imagine Dragons, Florence + the Machine, George Ezra and uhhhh I’ll stop it there I guess.
Current favorite songs:
(not gonna link them because I’m running late right now so here’s just five songs off the top of my head that I really love)
Back to Before by Patti LuPone (original from Ragtime performed by the amazing Marin Mazzie but I just am too obsessed with Patti’s voice)
Leaving on a Jetplane by Peter Paul and Mary (my favorite song of all time)
Mamma Mia by ABBA (has become my go-to karaoke song because I sing it really well and it’s just so fun and people love it lol)
Daylight by Taylor Swift (created an entire AU crossover fic just so I could use the lyrics in a couple chapters and this song just hits my soul real deep)
Rainbow by Kesha (”what’s left of my heart’s still made of gold” is a lyric that came to me at a very hard time in my life and it makes me cry whenever I even say it out loud and it’s very important to me)
Favorite fics: (again not linking because I don’t have time but you can find them all on ffn) Galway Girl by @rahleeyah (Spooks AU fic that changed my life and I think about it at least once a week), A Messy Kind of Love by rahleeyah (Doctor Blake fic that is the reason Leah and I became friends and one of the most impactful things I’ve ever read and also changed my life), One Fine Day by rahleeyah (Spooks AU fic she wrote for me and it’s everything I could have ever wanted), Dolce Notte and Calda Notte by @whatsabriard (Downton fics, the concepts of which have been in my head for forever and I just cannot stop thinking about how magnificent the idea is), Heartlines by ladycobert (Downton fic so good I just didn’t work at all one day so I could read it and as soon as I finished it, I read it again), The Proper Way of Things by AndAllThatMishigas (my Downton masterpiece that I’m more proud of and had more fun with than anything ever), Forever In Your Arms by AndAllThatMishigas (Doctor Blake vampire Jean which is really what I want to be known for forever), Glances by AndAllThatMishigas (City Homicide story that is probably the most perfect canon/canon divergence story ever, if I do say so myself), After by AndAllThatMishigas (Spooks post-series story that truly just made me so happy to write and makes me happy to reread) and honestly I think that is enough.
