#i also LOVE feyre

i don’t care what people say, i LOVE rhysand. he gave everything to protect his family and his court. he sacrificed himself to keep them safe. he kept feyre from totally breaking under the mountain, gifted her music as an anchor there. he only wanted to keep her safe.
he may have made mistakes, but i think he always tries to do his best for the people he cares about. he should have acted different in some occasions, yes, but this is the same man who made sure there was a library where the priestesses who had been abused felt safe (mind you, the same one he used to go to after going back to velaris), the same man who used his last bit of power to make sure his family knew what was going to happen. he did it all for them, for this people, his family, his mate.
i also feel like some people like to forget what a hard life he has had, with everything that happened to his family and the, mind you, forty nine years under the mountain.
he made sure at least a bit of kindness and life remained with velaris and i can’t tell how much pain i felt when he talked about starfall and when he explained everything to feyre.
god, he even tried to help tamlin before, tried to be there for him. there’s goodness in his heart and people who refuse to see it and paint him as an evil male are blind.
oh, and i want to say that i felt so so angry when people kept calling him amarantha’s whore. i was so angry. and there hasn’t been apologies for it. ugh, it’s just so unfair.
and i know this doesn’t really have a coherent pace, but, at last, i need to say that i adore how much he loves his brothers, cassian and azriel, and mor and amrem. and feyre.
he’s just so SO in love with feyre, he would give everything for her. he made her his high lady, he didn’t give two fucks about that tradition. he helped her learn how to read, how to fight, how to control her powers. i think that’s one of the things i love most about him: he never, ever, tried to cut her wings. he never tried to undermine her.
i know he’s gonna be a wonderful dad to nyx and i’m so happy for them both. i wish we see how this little family loves and learns and blossoms.
i love him so so much.

booktok cannot handle unfriendly or emotionally complex female characters. show them a woman who’s a little problematic and they start shaking and shitting themselves. women can be either be martyrs or victims, anything else and ppl short circuit. men can be fucked up emotionally manipulative mass murders but if women have one unpalatable emotion they’re drawn & quartered.
if booktok bitches saw the female characters i liked they would piss blood for a week !!!!

Listen, I will admit that I couldn’t figure out amarantha’s riddle for the life of me BUT my first thought when cardan exiled Jude was “isn’t this bitch ~the crown~? Pardon yourself and go back…” and that has to count for something right???

acotar/acomaf/acowar spoilers
Unfortunately I’m a Tamlin defender and here’s why
We all know that Feyre is traumatized as fuck; it’s why Tamlins behavior and actions towards her hurt so much. Her reactions and behaviors are understandable. But I see everyone putting Tamlin in an evil-toxic-ex-who-deserves-nothing box. I don’t see him that way, never have. His character actually makes me so immensely sad.
From the beginning, he’s been traumatized. He had a father who was cruel and ruthless. Tamlin told Feyre that he disagreed with and unapproved of a lot of things his father did. We don’t know the full side of his story about the night he and his father killed Rhysands mom and sister. Did Tamlin want to do that? Did his dad force him to go like Rhysands dad tried to get him to kill Tamlin? I just have a feeling there’s a lot of unfortunate misunderstandings between them. But then Tamlin had to watch his father get killed right in front of him and he and Rhysand were declared High Lords in the same night.
Tamlin was a child just like Rhysand. The only difference was Tamlin didn’t have a family, or a best friend, or people to hold him up and teach him how to be a ruler. He was a child forced into a position he wasn’t ready for. So he keeps the same traditions, same rules. It’s probably why the Tithe is still a thing. Has anyone told Tamlin that there’s other, better ways to go about that? Does he even know? He’s playing a guessing game as a High Lord and it shows.
Then Amarantha comes in and we know how that goes. Tamlin is easily the High Lord that got the ‘easy’ way out, compared to the rest who were imprisoned and were definitely tortured on the daily for 50 years. That had to have filled him with guilt, but he still doesn’t know What To Do. (I think Tamlin 100% has the Freeze reaction at any given sign of conflict). “But he only sent his men out for two years!” Two years!! That’s a long time for sending people who are devoted to you, people who became your friends, to a death that will likely will come up as pointless. He was running out of people so he stopped. He froze and continued existing in his Court.
Then came Feyre. The human with hate for Fae in her heart, the human who killed his sentry and friend. I, personally, I don’t think Tamlin was planning on falling in love with a human. The deal was that she had to fall in love with him, not the other way around. But when he takes her to his home and she has such a bigger personality than he’d originally thought. She wasn’t only angry, she was also sweet, caring, sarcastic. She wasn’t just a wild human, she loved to paint. Over and over, Tamlin says that he never thought that a human could love such things. Then, she cries over that faerie that died on the table. She held his hand and comforted in his last moments. It was a tender moment that had Tamlin rethinking his own feelings.
But Amarantha still exists. Amarantha is sending more and more beasts and monsters. She’s terrorizing his land day after day. Taunting him. She’s dangerous and all he wants to do is keep Feyre safe. Not because she had to fall in love with him, but because he already fell for her. But Feyre also keeps going out, getting herself in trouble, having to fight for her life. She was reckless. Tamlin wanted to keep her safe. He knew that if he told her the truth, she would go and try to stop it herself without thinking.
Theeeeeen there’s Rhysand. (He’s a whole other point of topic AHH). Rhysand, who spiked a head on Tamlins front lawn. Rhysand, who came into his home and Hurt Her. Tamlin wasn’t able to protect her in that moment. He didn’t fight, he Bowed. Soooo he sends her away, risking everything; never seeing her again, finally becoming a personal prisoner to Amarantha, losing his court, his best friend. He lost all of that just so she would be safe with her real family.
We don’t know the full extent of what Amarantha did to him. We only saw them on the throne when everyone was gathered. We know what she did to Rhysand, who’s to say she didn’t also do that to Tamlin; the man she actually wanted to marry? Did she hurt him? What did she say to him? We don’t know. What did she hold over his head to have him never interject, never argue, never defend?
Oh and then Feyre is there. She’s There. Even though he sent her away, here she was. I don’t doubt he wanted to fight. But whatever Amarantha did to him, paired with his habit of freezing, prevented him from even making a face. Then she was beat up, put in awful, horrible trials. She almost dies. She’s isolated and alone. And He Can’t Do Anything. He’s watching all of this unfold, frozen out of fear and uncertain if he’d even win against Amarantha.
Then he has to watch as Rhysand take her, drug her, make a bargain with her, KISS HER after her and Tamlin finally had a second alone. What was going through his head! This man was probably so hurt and broken and torn between fighting and freezing. What was his reaction when Amarantha told him of the final trial? Was he angry? Scared? Relieved? He knew about his heart of stone, so maybe he already knew the loophole?
I just want to drive it home that We Don’t Know What He Was Thinking when all of this was happening. Then Feyre fucking DIES! Did he notice Rhysand fighting for her? Did he see the true desperation and sadness in Rhysand? Did he understand? Did he think the High Lord of the Night Court was just upset of losing a pet? Weeee don’t know. But I bet it hurt to see someone who is Enemy Number One (other than the obvious) fighting for the woman He loved. Then she’s brought back and everything is good and great and everyone got their happy ending and the world is perfect again. (Haha, there’s a storm coming).
Mist and Fury is the one I want to talk about the most but I’ll make a different post about that.
Thanks for reading my ramblings, more to come.

Another alternative Effloresce pov. Azriel, as the slow moving shitshow train wreck his life is is quickly becoming a fast moving shit show train wreck.
I cannot tell you how much I love this one!
So, I would say across all my fics Azriel is a character who is the most consistent? Especially since almost all of them were written before acosf TERRIBLY let us in his actually creepy little headspace, and I've additionally chosen to keep my made up shadowman as he is.
Effloresce Az is basically Starlight Az but SADDER. He's Daylight Az without a kiddo and husband, Shoreless Sea Az without the absolutely beneficial retirement, and man is he TIRED.
You're Azriel, and your job sucks. Your inborn skillset leaves you zero other options, and you know this. It's better to be the left hand of power than in a cell for life, but you know what? Sometimes you can only do so goddamn much.
You're Azriel and that's kind of all you've got. You're one of a kind, literally. Alone forever in that. But you love Cassian. You play the little games with Mor for harmony. You respect- alien, ancient, different, probably what you'll feel like in a thousand goddamn years if you live that long- Amren.
You see the good in Rhysand, limited as it is to personal things, but you also see the vast potential for failure.
You see him listening to this CHILD OF A GIRL- who seems nice, yeah. You're worried about her, frankly. The Courts of Prythian revived her and will not just let that go- but that doesn't mean you think she has, shall we say, good ideas.
You watch Cassian spend days arguing against this.
You rock up over the wall and realize these two mortal, innocent women have probably been taken captive by Spring. Your orders are a mistake, you have a war to fight that has nothing to do with these people, but you're here, and you might as well do some good.
You move to neutralize the threat.
Lucien Vanserra does not act like a vassal of Spring. No, not even at Autumn prince. You can drown fire in the dark, but you can't swallow the sun or an ocean of flame without end.
That doesn't matter either, because this determined little slip of blond sunshine just fucking stabbed you. And for the first time in maybe decades, you just want to laugh. You've fucked up, clearly, but you're okay. (You can live through so much worse than letting a human woman stab you to feel safe.)
You hear Cassian coming, and you know.
It doesn't matter what Feyre is saying. Has said. You're Azriel and you can't not know or not hear- she's wrong or she lied. You have a High Lord sweating blood to protect a stunningly, dangerously charming woman and you have her sister, who feels less like delight and more like a dream.
You're a shadowsinger, whose providence is secrets and these two woman are shrouded.
You're fucked, essentially.
You know they're not really human.
You know they're hiding, and Feyre is going to break that right open if Rhysand has his way, no matter how many times you point out that the Queens want nothing to do with Prythian's fae.
You're Azriel, and you've always been smart enough to stay quiet when you have no orders forcing you to do otherwise. You're polite. You're frankly, horrified. You have no idea what to do with the Archeron sisters acting like you're nothing to be afraid of.
You know, before Cassian knows, that every wind that has ever carried him had lead him right here.
(You remember what that felt like. The fear, the euphoria. You were young and stupid enough to consider it simple rightness, your extra senses on your side, pulling you toward the correct choice in fealty. You didn't know what it was until too late. You didn't know and you never even got to know or got to mourn. You didn't have the right to mourn a girl dead too soon, who would have never been anything but your queen had she grown old enough to wear a crown.)
(Dead before the start, just like you.)
You decide, immediately, you cannot let what happened to you happen to Cassian. Nesta Archeron might be a compelling power, might be a fighter with ash in her hair and a cunning mind, but Shahar was a High Lady born. Not even that could save her.
You understand the instant way you like Elain is magic, whether she knows it or not. (She does not). Real affection follows quickly, you are, despite all magic to the contrary, as Illyrian as Cassian. You cannot not know. You like Nesta too- if only for her ferocity. Her bleeding, present fury.
They treat you like a person.
Fearlessly.
Easily.
You watch as their sister breaks their hearts, cracks already laid. You watch Rhysand act more and more territorial, and of course you know why too. You watch Lucien Vanserra safeguard the lives and livelihoods of hundreds of humans and you understand this, here, is a Court too.
A better one.
You quietly, a secret, kill their father.
You bind yourself in blood to a favor, and use it to unshackle the Archeron bloodline and their vassals from the Queens.
You watch Nesta Archeron kneel in the snow, watch Elain Archeron pull a knife on a High Lord of Prythian over human lives, and think, with dread and barren exhaustion, you're making the right choice.
The hard choice.
(How many noncombatants died in Sangravah? In every city Amarantha occupied? How many servants in the Hewn City every year? How many Illyrian children in the starving north? How many deaths were Azriel's fault, because Rhysand didn't care?)
(The Archerons would rather die with their people than live. Were educating their maids. Sending their kitchen boys to university. Taking in the orphans of other estates, having never forgotten what it was to be forgotten, hungry and alone.)
You're Azriel, and you can't not know how badly this is going to hurt.

Family abuse/violence is so normalized that it’s really mind blowing, specially between siblings. If your partner threatened to slit your throat if you just talked to someone, many people would see that as abuse. If your partner repeatedly verbally assaulted you, many people would consider that abuse. If your partner told you that no one would care/remember if you die, many would say that they’re abusive. But if your sibling does these things, it’s considered normal sibling rivalry. Where’s the line? Apparently, someone can stab you, mock you every day, destroy your self esteem, threaten you, but if they’re your family - especially if they’re your sibling - it’s okay.
Yup. It’s also a lack of respect. People think they can treat their family any kind of way because “well that’s my family they’re always going to love me at the end of the day”.
You can say you love your family all you want but that love means nothing if you don’t respect them. That’s why so many people think it’s okay to threaten your siblings or to be vile to them. That’s why they think it’s okay to cross boundaries in arguments and give a half assed apology and excuse with “that’s just how siblings fight”. Not that’s how siblings who don’t respect one another fight.
You can love your family yes. You can care if they’re hurt however the way you treat them in their day to day life is what matters. And it’s funny how so many people get on here to flex their toxic relationship with their family to defend the Archerons when all they’re yelling to everyone is “I come from a toxic household and I’ve normalized not holding any respect for my siblings”.
And look I’m no stranger to sibling fights. I have four of them (2 little sisters, 1 older sister, 1 older brother), I know all about the screaming matches that you get into with your siblings however I can confidently sit here and say not once have I ever crossed a boundary that has done serious damage to my relationships with them.
I’ve never threatened physical harm on them, I’ve never called them sluts or used their personal issues against them, and I have never fucking stabbed them😭. And that’s not something I should be given a pat on the back for because it’s literally normal. Respecting your siblings enough to not want to hurt them (even when you’re arguing) should be the standard but because toxicity in households is normalized, people now call you too sensitive if you go “hey maybe that’s too harsh to say to someone who you literally share blood with”.

You know what? I loved Nesta, and I liked the inner circle!
Nesta's gotta be my favorite charcter, and I ship her with Cassian!
I like Feyre, I like Rhys, I like the inner circle, I love the valkiries! I hate Tamlin.
I can like all those charcters and still love Nesta!
I liked her book! And I kinda agree with the inner circle. She was destroying herself and while maybe it might not have been the perfect corse of action, they were trying to help, and it worked.
I enjoyied reading Nesta's jorney! She had to work with herself to heal and forgive herself. Cassian helped her the way he knew how.
When looking at these charteres, try to actually put yourself in their shoes, empathize with them. Yeah, they're fictional, but they're meant to act like real pepole. I scroll the tags assoisciated with ACOTAR and I find so much hate, ussaully just to defend a charter the poster likes. I mean, have your opinons, but you can love charteres without hating on others! Surpise surpise, the charters meant to modle actual people have flaws!
This all being said, I have a minor complaint about ACOSF. Nesta was super op and powerful and I LOVED that! I love powerful female charters! I was dissapointed when she had to give up her power to save Feyre (Which I'm glad she did, btw. And about the whole pregnacy debacle, I think Rhys should have told her, but i can also see his point of veiw. Nesta probobly shouldn't have snapped the way she did out of anger, but I'm glad she told her)
Forgive my spelling errors

Exactly, the only thing Feyre *did* was cause Tamlin to become jealous of Lucien… but still that’s Tamlin’s fault for thinking the worst of his friend.
I was actually disappointed in ACOWAR because of how little Feyre did to the Spring Court. Especially since ACOMAF had this massive end reveal that Feyre was HL and Tamlin let her into his court.
When I saw people say she “destroyed” the Spring Court I was expecting her to blow it up or something. I wanted chaos. I wanted Feyre to make Tamlin suffer for all he did… instead we just got her watching as Tamlin ruined himself.
I mean I get it… I get that SJM wanted Feyre to remain the heroine but so many people say she “committed war crimes” like she was Dany burning down Kings Landing.
I would love for Feyre to have committed some actual crimes… everyone at the Spring Court deserved it for how they treated her, from day one.
