I also heard recently that apparently Reylos made up all of their harrassment as a cover for their racism in not shipping Finn/Rey, and to be perfectly honest with you I think racism is not a fandom-specific issue but kind of a social issue where you aren't insulated from it based on what you do or don't ship? And shipping isn't political activism? I wouldn't be granted rhetorical immunity if I did, in fact, ship Finn/Rey, because I could equally be responsible for perpetuating racism in writing their dynamic (and in addition to that, romantic relationships are not free of sexism or racism; how does this immunity hold coherently at all?) and in fact, I don't like Finn/Rey because I don't like enjoy how it services their characters. If Boyega were cast as the main villain we'd be having a different conversation.

If you wanted to reckon specifically with the ST's racism, we can start with TFA where TFA refuses to expand upon Finn's psychological evolution and turns him into a sanitation worker as a fucking dramatic punchline at the end of the film, or is unceremoniously knocked out by Kylo so he can't do anything narratively? Or just being there for bathos-esque quips? No matter what you say about TLJ, Finn's epic confrontation with Phasma and the potential of a Stormtrooper rebellion is there, and instead in TROS it's turned into... some people are just born right and others deserve to be Stormtroopers. *shrug*

That is not a fucking Reylo problem. That is, in the first place, teasing Finn as the 'main' character and then doing a reversal with Rey, and choosing to focus a new Star Wars series on the Skywalkers again. A Black Jedi with his own original story not contingent upon white legacy characters could've worked but by design it was not made so, and then they erased his character from Chinese marketing anyway. That should tell you were D/isney's priorities lie. If they actually had any gumption that is what they would've done following the ST to mop up what they did with Finn and actually got onboard original storytellers who were not looking to rehash nostalgiabait.

I'm particularly sore about this because I don't enjoy the implication that racism is a fandom-specific issue or that fandom is where the conversation starts and ends, or not that on some level these commercial productions with millions of dollars behind them influence the conversation. Or that there is a competition of socially-minded interests. Or that if we got rid of the Bad Shipping fandoms we would only have the Good Ones left with no problems forever. That's not how it works.

But inventing harrassment is an interesting accusation. We're just outright accusing each other of making up our experiences now? We're allowed to do that? I've never been 'in' the mainstream Reylo fandom enough and if there were evidence of Reylos behaving badly or, in the case of this context, being racist, I'd take it seriously as much as I can and challenge it, but I'm not sure what other authority I do have in intercommunity politics. Fandom doesn't work like that. There is only so much you can do. But accusing us of making up our experiences when I know that I personally keep to myself because of it is a new one.

I don't want to tell you the things I've seen or experienced myself in the Reylo fandom. Sure, the ceaseless crossfandom stuff is bullshit, but anti-Reylos are probably people I wouldn't get along with anyway and people can draw boundaries as they see fit. There are a bunch of ships and fandoms I don't want much to do with. I don't even think that anti-Reylos themselves are uniquely -ist in whatever given way; they probably just enjoy the opportunity to be sexist or racist or anti-Semitic against someone they think deserves it (and it always comes out when the opponent is sufficiently Of the Wrong Sort).

I think it is extremely dangerous to treat activism as a performative endeavour where I ship the right ships and interact with the text in the way I have been mandated to. Because it doesn't actually insulate me from racist behaviour or beliefs. I think it is true that there are times this notably happens, but equally, is shipping Finn/Poe alongside Rey/Kylo a way to mitigate this? How do we square it out?

I think this conversation with Reylo is probably over. Reylo's online legacy is always going to be mixed at best. But I don't think the anti-racist conversation begins or ends with it.

RULES POST

((Hoh boy did I receive a bit of a sign to go ahead and do this after debating on whether it was REALLY needed or not, but here it is now-

Haven’t had a problem with any of these, but these are just to note is all!

Making this a post rather than a separate page that way it can’t be missed whatsoever, so here goes:

No hug/fetish asks: This is kinda self-explanatory. If I feel just the slightest bit suspicious of an ask that goes through I will simply delete and not answer it. You’re more than welcome to ask me if your phrasing is fine! At some point there will be things happening on the blog that characters could use comfort and some would be accepting of a hug or any other platonic affection. But just you know, don’t be a creep about it.

No “hi”/overly simplistic asks: I do understand it’s hard sometimes to come up with an interaction, and sometimes language barriers get in the way! But please give me something to work with-something like “hi, what’s going on here/are things okay/etc” relating to the current situation is totally fine! I get a few of those in especially when introducing new characters. This hasn’t been an issue yet so this is just more something to note c:

*Do not make attempts to romance any of the characters, joking or not: This is a big one for me. I don’t mind talking about familial and friendships at all! Those don’t affect the canon of the characters in a huge way and I’m fine with it. Light teasing and flattery is fine, but if you wouldn’t do it to a friend or acquaintance, don’t do it to my characters.

*This is mostly for out of the blue type things, as I'm not very keen on making ships currently as it's not my priority on the blog. HOWEVER if relations develop and it's of interest, we can talk about things and see where they go.

No nsfw asks: This is simple. I got youngins exposed to this blog and in general I’m not comfortable with that type of thing being out there for the world to see. The closest that anything of the sort would pop up is most definitely pg-13 at the highest, and even that it’s just light jokes that would only happen with one person of which is my girlfriend.

No characters without a blog: Basically, don’t go sending an anon ask with a character description and have no blog for me to refer to. Written descriptions for a character are fine as I know not every askblog has drawn references, but I just need a blog to refer to! The only way this one doesn’t apply is that I know you and your characters very well outside of tumblr-which really only applies to a handful of people of which they know who they are.

No godmodding/attempting to control my characters: Y’know, just don’t try to control the situations going on. You’re allowed to interact with the environment such as picking up a shell and handing it to a character, or bringing fruit that one can’t reach. Hell, even those who have pokemon with certain abilities can use them on my characters such as other Darkrai casting dreams. But that’s the extent of it really.

Altercations/conflict is allowed, but expect retaliation: At some point in the blog’s plot, there will be a very obvious window to allow actual physical attacks against certain characters. When those come around I’ll make a separate post explaining how such moments will go. Aside that you’re allowed to invite a character to battle in which I’ll move it over to my rp and reply blog (kuixotic-rps) so as to not clog this blog up with all the replies. You’re absolutely allowed to antagonize characters verbally/get under their skin! I actually encourage it! That’s how you get to know about them a lot more than you expect, and if you don’t want to send a character you’re more than welcome to just use the anon function. (perhaps I can have it be like an inner voice depending on the context, hmmmmmm decisions.....) Just you know-if you punch expect a punch back!

No crossfandom interactions: Sorry on this one, this is strictly a pokemon blog. I don’t mind anthro pokemon at all but it just has to be pokemon related. If you REALLY want to interact and you don’t have a pokeverse character, you can dm me and we can discuss a simple pokemon design to allow the interaction to happen. Humans are generally easier to blend into the pokeverse since well-they’re human there’s not much aside that-but I know majority that interact on this blog do so with pokemon rather than actual people.

Lastly some things you should know:

This blog will deal with subjects such as discrimination, colorism/racism, LGBT+ phobia, classism, misogyny and the likes. Just because they are presented does not mean I condone them-they are present to create depth to the characters and their struggles. I’ll be tagging these and making the warning posts as I have, but just so you know!

Standard DNI applies, this blog is for is for equality and equity in all regards of humanity.

If I find out that you are against any of the aforementioned and you interact with this blog, you best expect a block IMMEDIATELY. ))

Divine Me A Masterpiece Challenge

♦ About

Welcome to my 1000 follower challenge!!! With there being a lot of seasonal challenges right now I thought I’d do something a little different. I thought that maybe we should get in touch with magic that’s in the air right now ;)

So for this challenge we are looking at tarot! First I’ll go over the rules and expectations, then gloss over tarot, and finally round out this post with the characters and prompts. So let’s get started :D

To Enter

You must apply through my ask box so no anons. If you are using a side blog and don’t want your main shown to the world tell me so in the ask and I will not post it publicly.

Every entry needs to be inspired by a Major Arcana card and must be focused on a character or ship I listed.

Each card is limited to one person!

Entries must be sent by ask and will be posted publicly!

I have bonus prompts listed at the bottom of this post; you need to use at least one (1) and you are limited to three (3) total! Sentence prompts are all first come, first serve! The majority of the AU prompts have a two person limit.

What your ask should include - the tarot card you wish to claim, the character or ship you wish to write for, and 1-3 of the prompts/AUs I have listed (You need to use at least one from the list).

All angst must have a happy ending and no cis-swapping.

I am accepting - fics, fan art, moodboards, edits, and playlists (you need to make a cover for it).

Note: I work second shift so please don’t panic if I don’t respond in the afternoon/evening hours.

♦ About Tarot

We’ve all seen the decks of cards with beautiful designs used for helping find possible answers to questions we may have, but not everyone knows what’s going on with them. I will gloss over the bare minimum of info here, but I encourage you all to read up on tarot if you are unfamiliar with it.

Tarot cards are used for uncovering possible answers to questions we have about our lives - from love to career. Cards can be drawn and placed in a certain layout (spread) and are then read in a specific order. They are meant for enlightenment and what they tell in the spread is not set in stone - they are cards and you can ignore their take if you wish.

There are two ways to read the cards depending on how they appear in a spread - upright and reversed (upside down). If the card is revealed to be right-side up you are to read the card as is and if it is reversed then it’s meaning is reversed.

Depending on the deck, the description of the card can vary slightly, but overall they are similar. Also, the meaning behind the card is affected by the other cards in the spread. For this challenge you will only have to worry about the card you selected.

Because there are in total 78 cards in a standard deck (divided between the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana), we will only be using the Major Arcana which totals 22 cards.

★【ｖｅｒｓｅ】 — RFA PARTY COORDINATOR ( MAIN ).

As stated above, this is my MAIN VERSE and will include all interactions that do not fall into one of the verses below. Crossfandom interactions, as well as interactions taking place where Jiae hasn’t fallen for a specific character within the Mystic Messenger universe will be contained here. I’ll only move interactions to their specified “routes” when agreed upon with my writing partner.

★【ｖｅｒｓｅ】 — WE’RE PLAYING GAMES ; BUT WE DON’T EVEN KNOW THE RULES ( ANOTHER STORY ).

Pretty self-explanatory. Interactions that fall into Another Story’s timeline of events will be included here; typically reserved for interactions within Mint Eye, V, etc. Again, a blanket verse where Jiae hasn’t developed feelings for anyone in particular.

★【ｖｅｒｓｅ】 — ONE TOO MANY WRONG ANSWERS ( BAD END ).

For the time being, this is a blanket verse for all bad endings, including the prologue ( and V’s route, when I get around to playing the bad end ). I don’t play a lot with bad endings, so I don’t feel the need to separate these by route ( yet ), but this may change in the future.

The rest of these should be self-explanatory. These are my verses for specified routes where Jiae has an ESTABLISHED SHIP. Again, I’ll only put interactions here when it’s okayed by my writing partner, otherwise they’ll be in my main verse.
