Thinking about Bazelgeuse again (you can tell he left an impression on me) and there's such a small note in the design I love but I really like that despite him being a wyvern he clearly has more pterosaur wings with two digits.

It's definitely both the monster-design and nature/biology parts of my brain firing at the same time but with so many wyverns using the bat wing pattern for their monsters I like that Bazel went for something a little different. His whole design is just insane and amazing anyway.

oh why thank you! I love my dumb fandergs so much kldjkldd

I'm not sure if I have tips per se, but I can explain how my thought process works when I do make fandergs so maybe that can be helpful 👀

when it comes to making them, the way I do it is first deciding what breed to make em. I consider what details I want to bring out of the fandom character so for example, I made my Johnny Bravo dragon a pearlcatcher cuz I wanted the dragon to have hair but not so much like a tundra. I also had an outfit in mind (to match Johnny's t shirt and jeans) so that ruled out ancients since you can't dress em and I didn't feel like making a skin lol.

and behold: a man™. when I drew him, I thought it'd be funny to actually match the style of the show so he's all angular and disproportionate. I only included features that I wanted from the pearlcatcher like the horn, ears, and tail and tbh he looks like a rhino lol but I decided stuff like the hair tufts on the face and limbs was too much for my taste.

same thing went for my Samurai Jack dragon. however, this guy's actual dragon sprite is a lot more complex just cuz I felt like making him fancy and giving him armor.

but when I drew him, he's just very much like Jack in the show, including the style. and I'm not saying fandergs have to match the style of whatever, I just think it's a fun nod. you can also notice here I didn't draw the smoke gene on him. that's just a personal decision I wanted to keep only on the sprite, in reference to Japanese ink paintings.

my design philosophy in general is "how would x person look like if they were a dragon." but if it's like an animal/creature fanderg (like for example my bazelgeuse derg from monster hunter) then I just kinda combine both elements together.

so for Tasha here, laced and edged look like chonky scales which for me was close enough to the egg-like scales of bazel and I got a skin for the fire theming. no clothes cuz I didn't wanna cover up the skin so sometimes I don't even dress em up if I prefer seeing their bodies.

when I drew her, you can see the combined bits of both the monster and wildclaw - bazel's wings, the chonk claws, egg scales, facial features - wc tail feathers, the multigaze, feather hair. there's a lot of "use your imagination" in my designs so like, I don't usually take things at immediate face value. so some people might see laced/edged as just flat scales or maybe even feathers but my brain went oh those are fat fuck egg bombs kjldfkldkl.

sometimes my fandergs are just inspired from colors like Baja who's a taco bell fan dragon lol. I saw this hat and was like yeah I can do something with that. another example of a derg I didn't really dress cuz I wanna see the baja blast™ capsule. Baja would prolly be one of the more thematically standard flight rising dergs of my fandom ones cuz she's just a spiral without anything fancy pancy going on like the previous ones.

and sometimes it's just fun to make things kinda funky. for my Jacket fanderg, I was like, what if the chicken mask was literally a part of him and badabing it worked out really well with scales. his other colors are like red and white cuz I wanted a sort of basic bitch rooster color scheme. most of the fandom bits come from the skin I made him so he's a bit more involved on the artsy side of things. the art of him afterwards became a literal interpretation of the sprite.

I have a lot more fandergs of course but that's more or less my thought process on designing them! I don't usually have any sort of standard for designs, it really ends up being how much I feel like putting in and how much do I directly want to interpret from a fandom source. sometimes it's very literal and other times it's like a lil nod or so. tbh, you can really make a fanderg out of anything since what you wanna see is entirely up to you. I personally think it's pretty fun to see how close I can get with just what the site has to offer.

I have two more fandergs I'm actually working on rn and am very excited to share when I get to it hohohehe

Adore the collectibles in the Elder's Recess! They look gorgeous, sadly the textures get weird when I try to take a picture of them.

Speaking of textures, I was happy to delete 47 gbs of highest textures, cause apparently I do not use them anyway and they just east my memory space))) Why isn't this An Option In Every Game And I have To Manually Dig Through Files With Fear Of Breaking The Game Tailing Behind Me. I have only been a pc-gamer for less than half a year, and I already hate the memory space problems. Make the highest-res texture packs optional downloads.

Some Nergigante being a total bastard shots. The first one - he flew to the arena above the one we previously fought on, and the moment I climbed onto it, he did a diving attack, which landed him right back at the lower arena. I had to jump down after him, only for the bastard to Fly Up Again. And then we got right into the beginning of this situation, because he did the dive attack and fell down AGAIN. I swear. This absolute bastard. Also, I'm pretty sure that death pose is a meme?

Finished him off with utter disrespect through firing at him with the slinger. Took me three tries. At least, the high rank armor/weapon grind is finally accesibble now.

I went for a 'quick odogaron grind' hunt. While I was chasing the doggo, who ran to the highest level of the valley, where I followed him, where apparently bazel followed Me, and we all crashed into a poor radobaan who didn't deserve any of this. Bazel was a freakin menace, he kept tailing me, while I was tailing odogaron, simply thinking he'd go away. Apparently not, cause after I managed to cut down the poor doggo, bazel finished me off, And Odogaron Respawned. So i got no materials out of my 'quick doggo grind'. I was angry enough to try to take on the pinecone plane himself, but I only managed to cut his tail off and drive him away, after which I went to hunt the respawned odogaron, Again. I wanted to chase the pinecone afterwards, but he fleed like a coward. Anyway, this was an interesting hunt for sure, and I now have an unfurfilled grudge against bazel, which I will try to remedy for sure. He is really cool tho, I cannot lie, and I think his battle theme is metal? Anyway, pinecone boy is annoying but cool, I like him.

MY ULTRA FAVE has to be Astalos and if it werent that he is like one of the least popular monsters merch wise i would have my entire room with him ;_; I crave a statue of him,,, but my friend was kind enough and found an old plushie that i now have sat on my bed so its something!! :D

The second MUST be Nergigante. He is a special little blorbo in my heart <3 And I have his giant statue perched beside my desk with his spiky ass staring me down menecingly. I had it above my bed once but i had to move it cuz it was creeping me out with its eyes LOL

Now the rest hold equal love status in my heart.

Yian Garuga is an ANGEL and everyone being rude to my screaming chicken is wrong and a pussy. He was my special blorbo to fight against in world when i needed cheering up or bored teehee. And also my main companion for 80% of monster hunter stories 2 until i got astalos and nergigante lol

Gore Magala is still VERY terrifying to me. It was my first elder in mh4u so it has special feelings attached to it. Im getting a statue of him and a plushie later this year <3

Valstrax! He was the first big elder i fought on my own in monster hunter ultimate and it was a TRIP. I always considered his armor weird and never used it including weapons until he was added to monster hunter rise and i fell in love all over again. I would love to have his fight completely conquered one day. And i wore his armour for majority of high rank as my 'walmart astalos' LOL

Bazelgeuse of course!! Seething in particular. The colours of purple pinecones growing in side and the intensity of the fight is just what gets me each time. The theme fucks and i want to bench press her into the floor <3

Seregios!!! The original pinecone!! He and bazel are in love and you cannot tell me otherwise. An absolute MACHINE of a monster. Love his attacks and the way his scales flare so so much. Its one of the few i would become a conservation researcher for to protect their natural environment ;_;

And of course, Namielle. A BEAST. I feel like she just hyptnotised me to love her so so much. I usually despise the water element. But theres just something about her grace and elegance, and the flashing colours of rainbow and when she lights up if you fight at night. Theres just something surreal about this terror typhoon

I really really love Najarala. Its one of the few monster that deserves a remake for just being so unique. A snake?? Hell yes.

Nerscyllia is another one. The OG spider lady. I would have thought theyd bring her back, but alas. I really like almudron and magnamalo as well from the new game, but i dont know the new monsters in rise havent really captured my heart entirely? Like maybe if i fight the final boss a few more times itll click something because hes cool as shit but who knows.

Velkhana, Val Hazaak, Glavenus, Ahtal-Ka, Seltas Queen and Chameleos are another few. I cant pick just a few im so sorry

I swear people who abuse macros in C need to shot. These are the same dickheads who switch build systems halfway through a project because they just finished watching a talk on the wonders of Bazel. We aren't compiling a million lines of code, fuck you. I really don't understand why programmers in my generation have such a hard on for ignoring established norms. At least be able to write something that works; the only thing worse than bad dumb code is bad dumb code that doesn't work. These are the same fucking people who mock me for sticking to the C89 standard but beg for my help when they are stuck with unintelligible compile errors because they used some dumb fucking macro.

I'll say it before anyone else does, I'm stupid. But consider what that means for these scum-fuck degenerates who deliberately write shitty code. Using pointers to point to pointers of pointers isn't a high IQ idea just because nobody else can understand why or how it "works". It's like placing the shit smear of an ape in the MMA and bitching that people just don't understand fine art because they can't stand the smell.

Not everyone is meant to code, specifically the motherfuckers who think watching a 5 hour course on youtube makes them an expert. Same goes for the front end devs who have more stickers on their laptop than brain cells in their thick fucking skulls. If your interest in programming is limited to memes on r/ProgrammingHumor or a 6-figure income promised by some dumb fucking YouTube short, stop. Please, for the love of god, stop. I am tired of being nice to people who think so highly of themselves but fail to deliver anything of value. I've had to put up with them during my freelance projects after they've fucked an existing codebase beyond recognition. They are a minority of a mostly wonderful community but their presence is still overwhelming.

I know my place is near the bottom of the skill ladder. I know I have a long way to go and I'm usually the last person in a position to criticize others. But morons duct taped to keyboards are tricking their way into high places and it is everyone's moral obligation to put them back in the dirt where they belong.
