for the ask meme, herbert/ dan. tell me your re-animator blorblo thoughts -does that pose where im on my bed on my stomach with my legs in the air kicking them head in my hands like im at a sleepover and we're gossiping-

we are like that businessman does his work lying on bed like a schoolgirl meme :3c but i'm actually really excited to talk about those goobers so let's see!

What made you ship it? canon is SO good to this ship. everything about the first two movies position dan and herbert in a romantic subtext - notable in the first one but NOTABLE in the second one - and i think that's SO funny of a 80s gore flick. the way herbert is immediately positioned as the other woman to meg's presence/the seductress to meg's voice of reason trying to keep dan on the straight and narrow with his exciting new medical breakthroughs. and the fact dan is not an unwilling participant in any of the reanimator movies, because herbert's ideas and ideals resonate with him! a lot! to a degree to always be on his defense. and their on screen chemistry!! herbert's near constant physical contact on dan and dan just?? rolling with it? there is not a single thing they agree on but they both understand that they have found a connection in the other that is once in a lifetime? dan's protective instinct over herbert and herbert's (still notably rude) willingness to let dan get close to him and his research??? they are insane? and in the second part it just goes up to eleven. least heterosexual movie about two dudes making a woman from scratch (notable genre of 80s cinema).

What are your favorite things about the ship? i like that they are. extremely funny. that's definitely one, they are a bickering old married couple. i also like their strange codependency, because dan makes the impression of the normalest guy, but herbert is the only person that is left in his life and the only person who has an understanding of what he's been through - even if herbert was very much the leading cause of said trauma. and herbert is just excellent right back, because he's so bad at emotions, but it is SO clear that he would do anything for dan to stay by his side - and it is so clear that just that, continuing his research with dan, would make him happy. it does make him happy. and it makes dan completely miserable, because they have such opposing needs and herbert can't be what dan wants (approval from any woman let's be honest), but he would be, he would go to extremes to make sure dan stayed. they are both,,, grabbing at the other tearing at nerves and flesh trying to get their needs met, but what they need from the other is so incompatible and different. they're so toxic. really no children by the mountain goats. get couple's therapy. herbert's whole weird thing also really resonates with me as a (closeted) gay narrative, especially in part 2.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? hmm it's hard to think of anything. i see herbert use pet names in fanwork a lot, and i think that's. super far from him to be honest. i think he may pull out a "danny" when he's gotta puppy eyes his way into committing an atrocity with him, but that's probably it. dan would fully notice too, just fall for it regardless. i also think herbert probably. wouldn't be much sweeter in a relationship. or nicer, even. i think the side he's showing dan is already his best behavior. he's already doing his best in showing affection (almost exclusively acts of service). with other routes open ofc i imagine he'd continue to show affection in a couples context, but it wouldn't really change his catty demeanor.
