i read acquittal earlier today, and then i read it again, and in between those times i've been spinning it around in my head bc you've graced the tgcf tag with another fic. usually when ppl try to write "dark" hualian it's a little eyeroll inducing but you get it. u understood book 4's characterization. nail it every time. my favorite scene was the palm reading scene and my second favorite scene was everything else. tysm for pulling this work out of wip hell, praying that u write more hualian <3
although it's been a while since i read hualian, i remember the darkfic being of a different flavor than what i was looking for. i think some people are in the unrepentantly evil love interest "i love you so much i want to kill you" camp and some people (me) are in the "i love you so much i'm going to kill everyone who has ever wronged you" camp. (i've started calling this the Most Worthy Person trope.)
hualian is a forever ship so i'm sure i'll come back around to it eventually, maybe when the next donghua season comes out or the live action. i forget that tgcf is a big fandom and when i went to check my comments the next day i was like, oh right this is what it feels like to write for a fandom that has more than 5 people in it.

I'm fine with people just not being into chengqing, but I do get grouchy at specifically including it just to smack it down, especially when they paint JC as some insistent creep who won't take no for an answer. MY rejection sensitive divorcee??? He honestly displayed an astonishing amount of emotional intelligence in his almost thing with Wen Qing, which is possibly why it never happened again
The thing is pointing and laughing at Jiang Cheng being a forever alone loser is just so incredibly valid and it is very true that MXTX made it illegal for him to fuck.
However how exactly was he being creepy? When he made big eyes at her while she was being undeniably swoon worthy? When he asked if she was going to be ok before then respecting her call on the matter? When he couldn't even make eye contact while proposing, left her a just-in-case token, and then turned away and left so he didn't even know she'd taken it until he'd given it back?
Absolutely no one has to ship it if they just don't vibe with it for whatever reason and I especially understand if that time he was at minimum willing to let a big chunk of her family die to save his brother and was a turn off but pushy? Did you miss the time he literally fainted and fell off a roof in newly enemy territory because a supervillain who wasn't even alive at the time in question spitefully told her boyfriend that his mom trapped his dad into marrying her?
Tumblr media
Look how twirly! I mean yes, other stuff was going on. He was confronting gruesome physical evidence of the deaths of almost everyone he loved and also Jiaojiao was loudly considering further defiling his mother's corpse but still! Jiang Cheng's issues run in the opposite direction.
