just watched one of the hetalia musicals for the first time and i'm here to report that england's characterization was so astonishingly bad that i couldn't even bear to see him onscreen

#they flanderized him to death with his punk stuff #like . it's all there is to him in it???? ALL OF IT #which is soo frustrating because like. part of the reason THAT aspect of him is as intriguing to me #is cuz it accents his gentleman persona in a really interesting way #like he's moody and bitchy but he's also a gentleman who cares about manners in an objective sense and he likes punk fashion and rock music #but also tea and embroidery #and neither aspect of him is falsified they simply coexist #so to see them giving him this exaggerated punk personality with no room for the other side of him... that's just literally not him #no mention of magic or spells or mythical creatures to be seen either WHICH IS SUCH A HUGE PART OF HIM AS WELL #and like. one of the REASONS i like him so much is BECAUSE he's so layered in a way that is so uncomplicated #he just is all of these things at once #and then the pirate thing #THERE'S SO MUCH #AND HE MAKES IT ALL COHERENT WHEN YOU OTHERWISE WOULDN'T ANTICIPATE THESE THINGS TO MAKE SENSE FOR ONE CHARACTER #but he has it all!!!!!!!!! #i'm just mad. they took everything from himmm #sparkletwinkles
