Hey, if you've gotten to the point of knowing the futures of the kids of the sns characters, could you do a what restaurants they own? Similiar to what you did for the sns characters. Especially Erik, Raiden, Sosuke, Akane, Bella, Sumire and maybe Maria. But honestly just do whoever you've got figured out. Thank you! Also, I really love Samara fyi
Hi! Happy New Year! In truth, I haven’t gotten very far in planning the futures of the 119th gen, but I’ll be happy to share what I’ve figured out so far!
Erik
I don’t see Erik opening a restaurant right after graduation the way Alice did. Soe (and Senzaemon, when he was alive) kind of groomed him to handle the external affairs of the Nakiri Group, so I see him going right into the business side of things.
In his early twenties, Erik would act as something of a liaison between the tech world and the culinary world, and he’d get a few lucrative patents under his belt.
He’d probably live his best tycoon/inventor life all through his twenties, and only consider opening a restaurant once he’s settled down and gotten married.
Raiden
In Raiden’s early career, he’d travel a lot, making documentaries about different culinary traditions and issues within the industry (sometimes in collaboration with his mentor and spiritual advisor, Rindou).
He’s always on the move and doesn’t even think about opening a restaurant until Akane and Sosuke start racking up Michelin stars and he’s like “Oh, shit. Better get started!”
His debut restaurant, Sojourn, is in Paris (because of course). It’s an homage to the rare ingredients and techniques he encountered while abroad. It’s quite niche and high-end, but definitely receives rave reviews and critical acclaims (three stars within the first few years).
Second restaurant would open a few years later (because Raiden still cannot bear to stay in one place) in California. This one would be a lot more casual and accessible, but it would still be considered gourmet cuisine.
Sosuke
Right after graduation, Sosuke takes over the head chef position at Souma’s New York restaurant. After two years or so, he’d leave that role to open his own barbecue restaurant in Manhattan.
The restaurant is an overnight success, and the hype around it quickly elevates him to the status of celebrity chef. He earns a star within the first year, and the restaurant’s popularity helps Sosuke’s brewing company take off.
Around this time, he gets married to Isabella and the Ibusaki brewery joins its fortunes with those of the Aldini wineries. He ends up a businessman overnight and it’s a while before he can even consider opening another restaurant.
Akane
After she graduates as first seat, Akane moves to Paris and takes over as head chef of Tsukasa Eishi’s flagship restaurant.
After proving her mettle to the Parisian culinary scene, she opens Le Diadème, a restaurant dedicated to French haute cuisine. Her keen aesthetic sense and emphasis on fragrance set her apart from other chefs, and she’s the first in the 119th generation to earn three stars.
Her second restaurant would focus more on Indian cuisine and the kinds of flavors and scents she grew up with.
Bella
Bella would open her restaurants early in her career, knowing that she would eventually have to take over as head of the Mito Group.
Her first place would be a steakhouse in Manhattan, playfully called The Meat Mansion. Given her access to the highest quality beef cuts as scion of the Mito family, her success is almost guaranteed, and she easily becomes a sensation and begins earning stars.
Her second restaurant, Decadence, is an ode to comfort foods. Her menus combine a fusion of rich Italian dishes  and the culinary traditions of the American south. A critic noted, affectionately, that one would gain five pounds just walking through the door, but the culinary experience is well worth it.
Sumire
Sumire is tapped by the WGO before she even graduates from Totsuki, and begins her career as a bookman. She quickly rises through the ranks based on her ability to use technology to identify meritorious restaurants that were previously overlooked by the WGO’s selection process.
She will be offered the role of bookmaster after Anne retires (I like to think that she’d be the one to succeed Mana), and may or may not accept it (at this point, Alice offers her a top executive role at Nakiri International on her son’s recommendation).
Maria
After graduation, Maria returns home to Tuscany and begins planning to take over Trattoria Aldini.
After a few years, she opens a sweets shop and bakery—named Paradiso after her signature dish—and it definitely puts her on the path to dethrone Momo as the world’s top pâtissière. Her ambitions may or may not be limited by her desire to put down roots and start a family, but only time will tell.

So the next set of aesthetics for @wishingforatypewriter
This time Isabella Mito-Aldini and Yuna Marui, who I both find very interesting. Especially how contrasting the two are. I want to know more about them :)
Once again, I hope I did okay.
Another thing, in Yuna’s case my Germanness and my Nerdness kicked a little in, I have to admit that. And I hope you don’t mind.
The statue in her set is a statue of Goethe and Schiller. The statue stands in Weimar and is also the symbol of the town. Thing is, I asked @wishingforatypewriter if Yuna might be into German literature because of her specializing in German cuisine and she accepted the headcanon. Now, Weimar is pretty much the ultimate nerd city for everyone who has at least a little interest in German literature. It’s where Goethe lived and Goethe is to German literature what Shakespeare is to English literature perhaps. But it’s also a very historic town and also very beautiful (I’ve been there) and I’ll shut up now, but I just wanted to explain that so no one’s gonna be like: “What the-?” ;w; I hope you don’t mind this. Also I take German Advanced Course and I am a huge nerd about all of this ;w;
Also Schwarzwald Cake.

Raiden VS erik
Bella or Sumire
Sosuke + raiden
Raiden v. Erik - Typically Raiden wins in a shokugeki and Erik wins in a fist fight because Raiden has been facing off against Souma and Grandpa Jo since he was little and Ryo let Erik participate in underground fight clubs when he was growing up.
Bella or Sumire - (Wow. I feel attacked by this lol) I love them both SOO much, but if I had to choose one I like better, it’s gotta be Bella. I think she’s my favorite OC overall because she has such a big, vibrant personality.
Sosuke + Raiden - I see their relationship as kind of familial. For Raiden, Sosuke is the brother he never had. Also, Sosuke was basically adopted into Raiden’s family. Souma and Erina look out for him like he’s one of their own.

Bella :)
Bella dabbled in cheerleading for the few years she went to school in the U.S. Ikumi has a few pictures of her with her little uniform and pompoms and Sosuke teases her to hell and back over it.
She has contemplated opening a restaurant that just serves different types of garlic bread with dips and toppings.
Her relationship with cows is quite complicated. She finds them so adorable and sweet, but at the same time, she’s going to eat them.
She once once did a figure skating routine to “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift.
She can be competitive to the point of self-destructiveness. She once continued to compete in a skating competition with an injury because she wanted the medal and Grandpa Mito was watching.
She’s very good at gambling; counting cards comes naturally to her, and she can maintain a strong poker face.
She wants to get a motorcycle, but Akane won’t let her.
She regularly shows up to classes in track suits (uniform? what uniform?)
Wakes up super early every day, but still ends up late to things because she over-commits to her early morning endeavors. Yes, this girl is baking focaccia at 7 o’clock in the morning.
She is the kind of person who depends on her friends to expose her to new music. If not for them, she’d keep shuffling through the same four playlists for the rest of her life.

how does bella feel about the whole maria / raiden / akane stuff? does she generally stay out of it? Also, do Maria and Bella begin to reconnect later down the line or no?
The whole love triangle makes Bella kind of uneasy because she just knows Maria is going to get hurt, and despite the ongoing issues between them, she still feels a little protective over her cousin. She believes that when all is said and done, Raiden will give in to his fate and marry Akane (just as the great Nakiri master plan dictates), and Mari will be left with nothing but her little trattoria and a broken heart.
Isabella and Maria will be on better terms when they’re adults, if only because Bella marries Sosuke, who will maintain a close friendship with Maria after their Polar Star days. However, there will always be some distance between them because they generally run in different social circles.

can you do more akane, bella, and sumire headcanons? I am missing these adorable babies with their adorable friendship
My girls!!! Yes, of course! Since we’re already in December, here are some Winter and holiday headcanons!
Sumire gets really, REALLY excited about Christmas. The literal second the clock strikes 12 on December 1st, this girl is knitting ugly sweaters and hanging stockings over the fireplace in the Nakiri Mansion. Since she isn’t usually this intense about things, Akane and Bella go along with the festive vibes and end up watching hours upon hours of cheesy holiday romances at her behest.
Given her keen artistic sense, Akane is constantly in really high demand as a Christmas tree decorator. In addition to handling the tree in the mansion (always a huge evergreen for Sumire’s sake), she also does it at her parents’ house (whichever one they’re inhabiting during a given winter), Auntie Erina’s house (naturally), the Shiomi Lab, and the Elite Ten administrative building. It’s become such a time-consuming endeavor that Sumire started putting the various trees on her official schedule.
Because Bella thrives on chaos, she often puts mistletoe in random places around campus just to see what people might do. In fact, she definitely made Sadatsuka Nana and Hojo Mizuki canon with these antics during their second year of high school.
Bella is a winter sports enthusiast, and she drags her friends on several ice skating and skiing excursions every year. Akane would rather spend her winters on a beach with a book, but she’s never been one to pass up a girls trip.
In the winter, Sumire and Akane thrive in terms of their fashion (turtlenecks and thigh high boots are Sumire’s bread and butter), but Bella is just trying to stay warm and can’t wait until she can wear shorts again.
Akane likes to make snow angles
Bella declares snowball wars with zero provocation
Sumire hums Christmas carols while she’s doing chores around the house

💓💌 For sosuke x bella, maryu
Sosuke and Bella
💓: who initiates most physical contact?
Let it be known for all time that Isabella Lucrezia Mito-Aldini cannot keep her hands off her boyfriend. She’s been known to drag him off to secluded corners so they can kiss or cuddle (she definitely won’t start anything in public because our girl has a fearsome reputation to maintain). Ofc, Sosuke does not mind in the slightest.
💌: who is more likely to send cutesy texts to the other?
Both of them to an extent. Bella really hits him up every morning like “Rise and grind, pretty boy” (with heart and sunshine emojis) a full 45 minutes earlier than he would like to be awake. Sosuke spreads his messages out throughout the day. He thinks he’s being smooth, but it usually comes off as cheesy romantic.
Yuki and Zenji
💓: who initiates most physical contact?
Yoshino Yuki for the win on this one. A poor, unsuspecting Marui can be making breakfast or reading an article or bidding his students farewell after a lecture and then Yuki will appear out of thin air and pounce on him. He’s learned to brace himself for it, lest the both of them go toppling down.
💌: who is more likely to send cutesy texts to the other?
Marui will send her a literary love pun or a quote from a novel every once in a wihile, and Yuki lives for this. Yuki will edit them into memes and then send those to him. Much of the time,  he doesn’t get the references, but after he looks up the memes he always finds them sweet and funny.

24 sosuke bella erik nana
24. What would they order from a fast food/take-out place?
Sosuke - Puerto Rican food! Back when they were first years, Raiden exposed Sosuke to a number of dishes he hadn’t tried before. Among them were pernil, maduros, and mofongo. Naturally, he fell in love. When he moves to New York after graduation, he finds a local restaurant and frequents it.
Bella - Cajun food, or southern barbecue. The time Bella spent living in Texas with her parents, and visiting cities with rich culinary traditions like Nashville and New Orleans, definitely shaped her palate. If she can find a place with decent jambalaya, she’s definitely ordering it.
Erik - Turkish street food! When he was very young, his godfather (Akira) put Erik on to the deliciousness that is doner kebab and dürüm, and he has never gone back. Whenever he can’t successfully annoy Akane into making it for him, he’ll end up ordering takeout (and inevitably sharing with Akane, who will criticize the food and say she could have made it better).
Nana - Vietnamese food! Nana’s moms encouraged her to try all types of foods, and Vietnamese food ended up being a cuisine she really enjoyed. Vermicelli are her favorite noodles, and she could eat them everyday. She also loves banh mi, and will order them every time she sees them.

can you do some headcanons of akane, sumire, and bella's friendship? The trio is soooo cute
THANK YOU for giving me a reason to talk about my girls!!!
Bella cooks breakfast for Akane and Sumire almost every morning because she wakes up super early to work out. The other two will still be in their pajamas and rubbing their eyes when they come downstairs, and Bella will be frying up bacon, sausage, and eggs and playing pop music on full blast. She has so much energy that it’s impossible for them to stay tired.
Bella feeds the other two a lot in general because she’s often involved in multiple shokugekis per day and is always testing out recipes, and therefore always seems to have extra food on hand. Sometimes when Akane is stuck behind her desk with her paperwork or Sumire is fiddling with her tablet, she actually has to remind them to eat (very brashly, of course, as this is Isabella Mito-Aldini we’re dealing with).
Subaru, being Subaru, was very excited that his daughter had a close group of friends, so he embroidered matching fleeces for them and the girls slay in them all winter long. Sumire, who learned how to sew, knit, and embroider from her father, also come out with the occasional scarf or beanie for her friends.
Sumire, who manages her friends’ very busy schedules, blocks off a weekend every month for relaxation and spa treatments. She can tell just by looking at them exactly what services they want/need.
In general, Akane’s cooking style mirrors her father’s—with a strong focus on fragrance and spices—a lot more than her mother’s. However, if Bella or Sumire so much as sneeze one time too many, all of that Arato expertise comes pouring out of her and she has them wrapped up in blankets, sipping medicinal teas in about ten seconds flat. She is mom-friend to the max, but they love her for it.
Akane really likes to mess around with hair and makeup, and she will deck Bella and Sumire out every time they’re going to a party or an event. They allow themselves to become her guinea pigs with amusement (and always come out of her ministrations looking fabulous).
Akane and Bella are both very protective of Sumire, who they view as the baby of the group, and anyone who insults or threatens her will be dealt with severely. They know that she can fight her own battles, but they’re still gonna defend her anyway.
Every once in a while (like twice a year), Sumire and Akane will humor Bella and go running with her in the morning. By the end of it they are invariably sore and exhausted, but glad they made her happy.
The building of empires takes a substantial amount of work, so our girls divide and conquer. Akane mostly strategizes (she sets the goals, builds the coalitions, negotiates with upperclassmen and faculty), while Sumire handles logistics (scheduling, media managing, research), and Bella provides the muscle (shokugekis, shokugekis, shokugekis!) as they spread their influence across Totsuki.

we've seen EriKane/RaiKane and RaiMari/RaiKane, what about SouYuna and SouBella?
To be fair, this one wasn’t as much of a split decision as the Maria, Raiden, Akane, Erik, Sumire situation. I think I knew Bella and Sosuke would be endgame since the first oneshot I wrote about the two of them, but I’ll still discuss some key aspects of both relationships.
Sosuke x Yuna (SouYuna)
The Ibusakis and the Maruis live right across the street for one another, so Sosuke and Yuna grew up seeing each other every day. When they were kids, Sosuke would always climb the tree in front of the Maruis’ house and knock on Yuna’s window whenever he wanted to hang out (which was all the time). Sosuke was really popular in school and had lots of friends, but it was always really clear to everyone that Yuna was his favorite person. Their entire hometown thinks they’re going to get married as soon as they’re grown.
When they were kids, Sosuke would look out for Yuna and make sure no one bothered her. She could always count on him to grab the book on the shelf she couldn’t reach and be there to walk her home when she lost track of time and stayed out after dark. Even when they’re in high school, she knows he’ll still do anything for her—if he’s around, anyway.
In some ways, Yuna knows Sosuke better than he knows himself, and she always seems to be there with exactly what he needs—the study notes on the night before the test, lemon tea when his voice is raw after a show, actual food when he’s locked up in his brewing shed all day. Their relationship often takes on a really domestic quality, and he subconsciously goes to Yuna for comfort, even when he’s romantically involved with someone else.
For the longest time, Sosuke had no clue that Yuna had romantic feelings for him. He’d always had a lot of fangirls, and she didn’t act anything like them, so he assumed she only saw him as a close friend. When she finally confesses to him—during their second year of high school, while he and Bella were on a break—it broke his brain. Like...he needed time to process because suddenly everything that had happened between them in the last decade was cast in a different light...and then he realizes that he does actually return her feelings on some level.
When they start dating, it brings out a different side of Yuna. She’s always laughing and cheerful, and the similarities she shares with her mother really start to show. Sosuke starts to feel a lot more content with life in their hometown, and life is pretty idyllic for them for while.
Sosuke x Bella (SouBella)
Isabella Mito-Aldini has always had the ability to leave Sosuke speechless. She is wild and irreverent and tough as nails, and from the first time he met her, he knew there was gonna be something between them. Sosuke was used to a lot of girls chasing after him, but with Bella, he had to fight for her time. When they first started talking, he was just one of several guys she had on rotation, and he put all of his charm and style and best recipes into becoming her main—and then her only.
Bella has always liked to flirt and play around with guys, but Sosuke is the first person she starts to develop real feelings for. Even though he can come off as just another handsome playboy, he’s very sincere and makes it clear that he isn’t just interested in fooling around. He is definitely the more romantic of the pair and she is often touched—if not a tiny bit embarrassed (she still has a reputation to protect!)—by his gestures.
Bella is usually very self-assured and fearless, but as their relationship grows, she begins to come out of her comfort zone for him. She actually felt a lot of anxiety around meeting his parents for the first time and tried her hardest to be respectable around them. She ends up being the first one to say “I love you” and that took a lot out of her. He also proposes when they’re like 21 and she says yes even though she never imagined herself as someone who’d get married young.
Bella and Sosuke come from different social classes, and are in different friend groups, and for a while they seemed a little like star-crossed lovers. Sosuke isn’t intimidated by Bella’s background, and he works to become someone that her friends and family—especially private investigator Sumire and no-nonsense Grandpa Mito—can respect. Bella is always helping him navigate her world (ie. “Yes, you have to check your email at five in the morning when your boss is in another timezone”) but he’s a quick study.
Bella is a morning person, and Sosuke is not and all of their early morning interactions are pretty hilarious. When they’re in high school, she would hit him up every morning with a “Rise and grind, pretty boy” text; it would be a phone call if he had something important to do early in the day, and he would make some snide remark about how morning people were psychotic. When they’re older and living together in New York, Bella wakes Sosuke up every morning with fresh espresso and kisses on his neck and half-sarcastic requests for him to go running with her.

Made Good
Summary: Ibusaki Ryoko reflects on her oldest son’s success.
Ibusaki Ryoko sat at her kitchen table with an incredulous expression, watching her best friend pour over half a dozen culinary magazines. After a few minutes of archival research, the amber haired woman looked up.
“Congratulations,” she said, beaming. “By my calculations, which are never wrong with this sort of thing, your son is a celebrity chef.”
“I figured he must be by now,” Ryoko replied, thinking of the TV interview she saw the week before. The reporter had hung on every word as he talked about the brewery and the question of when, not if, he’d branch out and open his own restaurant.
“It’s so exciting, isn’t it?” Yuki, who’d always carried a torch for all things luxurious, was nearly bursting with pride. “I always knew my brilliant godson was going to make good!”
Since his graduation from Totsuki three years prior, Sosuke has been a rising star in the culinary world. He’d started his career as head chef at Yukihira’s New York and launched his own brewing company on the side the year before. She was proud, they both were—though Shun wasn’t always the best at showing it—but yet...
“I knew it too.” She sighed. “I just wished we saw more of him.” It had been nearly two years since she’d last seen her firstborn.
“Come on, you know how it is,” Yuki told her. “I barely came home at all when I was working overseas and I’m not doing half as much as he is.”
“Yes, I remember.” It had been a lonely time, indeed, with both her and Megumi gone. But at least Yuki had come back when things got sorted out between her and Zenji.
Just then, Yuki’s expression changed, her eyes widening to roughly the size of dinner plates as she looked at one of the foodie blogs she kept up with. “Well, you’ll see him before too long, anyway,” she said, handing her phone over.
It was a tabloid photo of Sosuke’s high school sweetheart—in all her toned, tanned, and curly-haired glory—stepping out of a taxi with a stunning diamond ring on her finger. “I’m glad she said yes. He’s been in love with that girl since he met her.”
Ryoko had known the Mito girl was his match since the first moment she saw them together, but her joy was disrupted by a sliver of hesitation. Now, there’d be no way home for him. Even with the blurry shot, she could tell the ring—an oval cut yellow diamond on a diamond encrusted band—had cost more than the down payment on their house. What it was to live in a different world than one’s own children, to know that one’s grandchildren would be born to a different universe.
“Do you think you can get an engagement party together?” she asked her best friend.
“Of course! Everything should be ready within a week. When Yuna comes home this weekend I’ll ask if she can get all their school friends together.”
“I think that would be cruel in the extreme,” Ryoko said, mostly to herself. “Besides, if anything I remember about Ikumi is still true, the Mito-Aldinis will have the grand-scale bacchanal covered. This one will just be for family.”
Speaking of family, she’d have to let Shun know the minute he walked through the door. Finding out about their son’s impending nuptials from the media, or from Yuki—to whatever extent the two were separate entities—would only piss him off.

OH WAIT, I forgot the topic (because I’m a moron) but Yuna + Clothing and Bella + Friendship, please? And once again, sorry for me having the brain capacity or a goldfish 😅
You’re fine! It’s early in the morning (I think?) lol.
Marui Yuna + Clothing
Yuna was a ballerina when she was younger and Yuki would always go overboard in terms of making or ordering her costumes. There was one in particular, a soft blue with flowers embroidered along the skirt and neckline that made her feel like a little princess.
Yuna’s primary fashion style is kind of preppy. She can rock a plaid skirt and kitten heels with the best of them, and her cashmere sweater collection is second to none. And of course, she has a number of headbands to match most of her looks.
In the summer, she usually rocks denim shorts and white shirts or tank tops in earth tones. It’s a different vibe from her usual look, and her school friends are always surprised when they visit her over the summer.
Isabella Mito-Aldini + Friendship
At Totsuki, many think of Bella as Akane’s second in command, but when they were in elementary school the roles were completely reversed. Bella was the mysterious new girl destined to become queen bee and Akane strategically put space between her and the masses.
Although she is a hedonist in general, Bella has a girl code that she strictly abides by (and wishes others would too because it would eliminate so many problems). Despite her many boy toys, she would never even look at a person one of her friends had feelings for.
While she seems like the poster child for tough love to most people, Bella can be incredibly soft with her friends — particularly Sumire, who she thinks of as a slightly younger sister.

Sosuke bella 5 :) pls
5. In the back seat of the car
The Lyft was arriving in one minute. In a mere sixty seconds, they would be on their way home to sleep off a long night of club smoke, bass beats, and hard liquor....if he could manage to get his lovely fiancee to the car in one piece.
“Hold my purse for a second, pretty boy?” she asked, her speech slurring slightly as she shoved the spiked leather clutch into his hands. “These guys have the audacity to say that I can’t do a back-handspring and I am totally going to prove them wrong.”
“No tumbling tonight, please, babe,” he said, taking hold of her upper arm.
“But I’m a gymnast,” she argued, pouting. And if she didn’t look so cute doing it, Sosuke might have reminded her that she hadn’t done competitive gymnastics in a decade or so.
“Yeah, you’re a gymnast who’s had five jagerbombs and a scorpion bowl. You’re lucky you can stand up.” Now that he mentioned it, she was starting to look less than architecturally sound in those stiletto heeled boots.
“Oh, please,” she said, crossing her arms over her chest in a way she probably thought intimidating. “I’m completely fine.”
“Sure, Belle.” She was going to crash so hard when they got home.
“I can drink you under the table any day. Let’s go, right now!” She took one step back in the direction in the bar and then froze, bringing a hand to her temple. “Fuck. Why is the room spinning?”
Just then the car pulled up to them on the curb. And not a moment too soon. “We’re outside, Belle.” He turned her around gently and opened the door for her. “Come on.”
“GOOD NIGHT, NEW YORK CITY!” she bellowed at the crowd still milling about outside before half stumbling into the back seat. As soon as Sosuke closed the door behind him, her curly head was on his shoulder.
“Mmm...why is your shoulder so nice, Sosuke?” She was nuzzling him now, compelling him to wrap an arm around her as the driver turned a sharp corner on St. Marks Place.
“Because that’s where you lie down when you’re drunk off your ass.”
“I’m not drunk,” she said, her blue eyes drooping low. “Just a little sleepy. And hungry. I could go for a burger right now.”
“And I suppose I’m the one who’s gonna be making this burger?”
“Yeah. The hell else do you think I’m marrying you for?”
Sosuke couldn’t help but laugh at this. It was astounding that this amount of alcohol only made her marginally more outrageous than usual. “So that’s what it was, then?”
Bella nodded sleepily, her head now tucked beneath his chin. “Mhmm..Burgers and barbecue...and you’re the love of my life or whatever.”
Sosuke smiled, running his hand up her side. “Love you too, Belle.”
“Obviously,” she said before drifting off to sleep.
In a minute or two, the car would pull up in front of his apartment building and he would have to carry his handful up to the sixth floor. If anything in the world could make him regret her it was that—and of course, he still didn’t.

The Stagiaire Struggle (Portraits of 119)
Summary: In which the struggle is real for young Ibusaki.
If Ibusaki Sosuke had learned one thing in the past few days, it was that there was no sleep like that oh-my-fuck-I’ve-never-worked-this-hard-in-my-life stagiaire sleep.
For this reason, when his phone started ringing at 5:05 in the goddamn morning, he was less than pleased to say the least. After glaring at his phone and willing it to disintegrate to no avail, he sighed, accepted the call, and pressed the device to his ear.
“What?” he grumbled.
“Rise and grind, pretty boy,” came the low, teasing voice of Isabella Mito-Aldini. She sounded like she’d been up for a while, and was probably going to town on a stationary bike somewhere, psychopath that she was.
“Fuck do you want, babe?” Sosuke pressed the heel of his hand between his brows, already fighting off the headache.
“Just reminding you to check your email,” she said.
“At five am?”
“Of course. You’re working for Yukihira Souma, for fuck’s sake. He has like eight restaurants. If you don’t stay on top of your shit you’re going to end up on the wrong continent one of these days.”
Sosuke sighed. “You’re right—”
“Clearly.”
“I’m looking.”
After fumbling in the dark for a minute, Sosuke grabbed his iPad off the nightstand and saw a single unread email, sent at 2:47 in the morning—subject line: Flight
Yo Sosuke,
We’re going to be working out of the Paris restaurant for the next few days. Flight info below.
Souma -sent from my iphone
He read the message aloud to Bella and sighed. “Guess I’m heading to Paris this afternoon. Good night.”
“Afternoon?” Bella repeated incredulously before he could hang up.
Wordlessly, Sosuke opened up the attachment and found that he’d be flying out of Tokyo International at 7:50 that morning. For the first time, a jolt of real anxiety ran through him. He shot out of bed and immediately started looking for his duffel bag. “I’m already late, aren’t I?”
“You should probably be at the airport already, but it’s salvageable,” she told him. “Pack and get dressed, and I’ll have a car in front of your place in fifteen minutes.”
“You’re the best, Bella.”
“Obviously, pretty boy. But there’s no time for all of that now, you’ve got a plane to catch.”
She hung up on him then, but the car was outside of his house, as promised, when he bolted downstairs. He could tell already that it was going to be a very long day.

The Successor (Portraits of 119)
Summary: Thirteen-year-old Hayama Akane receives a piece of mail that will change the course of her tenure at Totsuki Academy.
“We still think of a powerful man as a born leader and a powerful woman as an anomaly” —Margaret Atwood
When the letter arrived, Akane had been lurking by the mailbox as she tended to, waiting for a postcard from Raiden. The smooth envelope held an invitation to the executive suite at Totsuki’s parliament—the private offices of the first seat.
Flanked by Bella, newly returned from a session at the local ice rink, and Sumire, who’d finally finished moving the rest of her things to the mansion from her old apartment, she read over the letter again.
“To Hayama Akane and associates—”
“The least she could do is include our actual names,” Bella huffed, arms crossed.
“Look at the penmanship,” Sumire said, studying the note carefully. “This is clearly the handwriting of the third seat, Saito-senpai, not Mizuhara-sama herself.”
“Girl, how do you even know that?”
Sumire shrugged. “I collected handwriting samples from all the sitting Elite Ten members at the beginning of the year.”
Bella blinked once. Twice. “How the—”
“Can I finish?” Akane asked with a small sigh, reminded once again of so many afternoons with Raiden and Erik.
“You are cordially invited to afternoon tea with sitting first seat, Mizuhara Himari. Please arrive promptly in front of the parliament building at 1 pm on November 15th. An aide will be waiting to escort you to the executive suite. The instructors of any conflicting classes will be provided with excused absence notes signed by the Elite Ten.”
“What does she want from us?” Isabella asked, her eyes set squarely on Sumire.
“Why are you looking at me?” the dark haired girl questioned.
“Well, you know, don’t you?” Bella rested a hand on her hip, waiting to be briefed.
Sumire shrugged. It was a valid assumption, after all. “By my estimate, she wants to recruit us to the Totsuki Women’s Organization,” she said. “She’s had her club secretary pull all of our records from the registrar’s office—mine once, yours twice, Akane’s six times. More importantly, she likely wants to make Akane her successor.”
Akane’s brow furrowed. “Her successor?”
The thought sent a tremor through her. She remembered watching Mizuhara-san two years ago in the final round of the Autumn Elections. Her cooking had emitted such a raw, unadulterated power that even Auntie Erina took notice.
The match itself had been an upset, most of the students and alumni stating that Tsunozaki-kun had all the trappings of a first seat, that he couldn’t possibly lose. Akane herself had won an untold number of strawberry flavored Kit-Kats from both Nakiri heirs, who had bet on the golden boy.
But what could a person like that possibly want with her?
Reading the confusion on her face, Sumire decided to elaborate. “Mizuhara-sama orchestrated a revival of the academy’s peer mentoring program, but abstained from taking on an apprentice herself. She’s been known to say that she will only mentor a girl she believes to be capable of taking the first seat.”
“And she thinks I am?”
“Who else, amica?” Bella asked. “You’re the best in our year, probably one of the best in the lower school overall, and now that you’ve started picking fights with high school students — and then winning them — everybody knows it.”
The praise, so rare from a person like Bella, made her cheeks flush. “Even if I were the best in our year—”
“You are, without a doubt,” Sumire said. “I’ve devised several algorithms to confirm it, and it’s checked out every time.”
“It’s just…” Akane sighed, too prideful to admit it out loud. “Never mind.”
If she was the best, it was only because Raiden and Erik hadn’t shown up. Was all the intrigue surrounding her not simply because she stood as their proxy in the eyes of the student body—at best a girlfriend of sorts, at worst a sidekick?
How could Mizuhara-senpai not take one look at her and know that she descended from a long line of highborn servants?
“Aren’t you excited?” Sumire asked, her voice softening.
Akane was quietly startled, even though she should have been used to it by now. All her life, the only person who read her silences that well was Erik. “I am,” she assured. “I am. The idea just takes some getting used to.”
As a child, she had envisioned herself as a third seat, like her father—or the second on bold days—but the first? That was uncharted territory.
The next day, Akane didn’t wait by the mailbox. She spent the evening cloistered in the kitchens of the Nakiri Mansion, putting her own spins on classic French recipes.
If the first seat needed the successor, someone to entrust with her interests after she graduated, why shouldn’t it be her? Perhaps she too could claim a place in the academy’s history books.
She shook her head. Ridiculous. But at the very least, she would show up for tea.

Fire on Ice (Portraits of 119)
Summary: Hayama Akane and Isabella Mito-Aldini meet for the first time.
Akane had been lying on the plush carpet in her bedroom, practicing her calligraphy, when her mother came in, cellphone precariously positioned between her ear and shoulder.
“Sweetheart, do you want to go ice skating?” she asked, standing in the doorway and fumbling with her purse.
“Ice skating?” the nine-year-old repeated, perplexed. In the past few days her mother, the esteemed Dr. Arato Hisako, had scarcely looked up from her laptop long enough to nibble on a piece of toast. “Don’t you have to finish writing that journal article?”
That made her mother flush the same shade of pink as her short locks. “D-don’t worry about that now. Just get dressed.”
And so, as any child presented with an unplanned afternoon of recreation would, Akane put away her brush and inkstone and dressed as quickly as she could.
Once she was seated across from her mom in the backseat of the towncar, sipping genmaicha tea from a thermos, Akane felt empowered to ask the question burning at the forefront of her mind.
“Mom...what put you in the mood to go skating?” She could not recall her mother ever putting on ice skates, even after Auntie Alice goaded her for hours.
“The truth is, we’re going because there’s someone I want you to meet,” Hisako explained. “One of my old friends recently moved back to Tokyo from overseas, and she has a daughter who’s the same age as you. She’ll be starting at your school after the winter break.”
Akane sighed. She knew it had always bothered her mother that she never had any close girl friends, a situation that had not been remedied by sending her to a private all-girls international school. “I’ll be nice to her,” she promised.
“You might really like her.”
“Where is she from?”
“Italy originally, but she spent the past few years in North America. Texas, I believe, and California.”
Despite the nonchalance she had decided on, Akane couldn’t help but wonder how a person like that would cook.
When they reached the ice rink — which was virtually empty — Hisako and Akane were greeted by a woman with light brown skin and short blond hair. She looked too young to be somebody’s mom in that same half-mystical way Auntie Jun did, and she lunged to hug her mother like they were long lost sisters.
Akane decided immediately that she liked this woman, and that was even before she gave her European chocolate and complimented her hair.
It was less than a minute before she turned her attention to the ice where a lone figure kept landing sky-high jumps and impossible spins. As if drawn by a magnet inside, Akane drifted to the edge of the rink, transfixed.
She watched the girl skate backwards without a glance behind her and twirl on the tip of a single boot like the figure on a musicbox, convinced that a person endowed with that much power couldn’t possibly be mortal.
Lost in her musings, Akane was only half aware of the girl approaching until they were face to face, with only the edge of the rink between them.
“The hell are you staring at?” the girl demanded, one hand resting on her hip. “Another spy from Coach Nara’s rink?
Akane was taken aback. The curt tone and imposing posture were so at odds with the grace she’d demonstrated on the ice.
“No! Not at all,” she said quickly. “I don’t skate. I was just...I mean it’s just you’re...really talented.” Akane looked down, her face burning. Here she was making a fool of herself in front of what must’ve been the coolest person she’s ever encountered.
The girl’s expression softened a bit. “I’m Bella. Isabella Mito,” she said. “And I’m guessing you’re Arato-san’s daughter...and not a spy?”
“Akane,” she replied, and shook the girl’s hand.
“Go get some skates on,” Bella ordered. “I’ll teach you.”
Akane’s eyebrows shot up. She was more than certain she’d break her neck. “Oh, I could never.”
“Oh, but you’re gonna,” the girl told her, a spark of mischief glinting in her ocean  eyes. “Skates on, amica. I don’t make friends with punks, and I like you already.”
“Fine,” Akane said after a pause, flipping her pink hair behind her. “But if I do this, you’re going horseback riding with me next weekend and learning how to jump.”
“Done,” she said.
And by the time Akane got her ice skates on, they both knew they’d be friends until they were their mothers’ age.
