Always a Winner.
Summary: Courtney wins CBBUK, and when she’s crowned there’s only one person she wishes was there to share the moment. Little did she know that person is waiting for her, in her hotel room, ready for the reunion and the congratulations.
A/N: This is so stupid but I wanted to write something dumb and cute and I love my girl in the house so here we are!
She was elated to have been crowned. Granted, she thought someone else should have won- one of the women to represent ‘the year of the women’ appropriately, but then again if it had to be any of the men at least Courtney did some justice. She deserved it too. She had gone in with a mission to educate the British public, maybe even give a differing perspective to those within in the house to walk away with, and she kept her cool the whole time. Coming out to the overwhelming amount of love, it was a feeling she couldn’t quite explain.
Her mother had flown over to see her, and she was grateful to be in the arms of a loved one after so many days apart. The rest of her housemates had their friends and family there, it seemed only Courtney had little support, but she understood. All of her friends were abroad busy with work, and her family was literally the other side of the world- her mother was plenty company!
There was a nagging part of her that missed that one person, however. The secret that she’d been keeping for almost a year, the person she’d adored in her humble privacy with no begrudging between them. She’d secretly hoped they’d fly out to see her, regardless if she won or not, but she understood why they weren’t here. It wouldn’t dampen her mood, no way.
“I think there were plenty of worthy winners this year, I had some tough competition. And regardless of winning, this has been an amazing experience and I’m delighted to have shared it with these wonderful people!” Courtney had said in her winner’s interview, gaining an immense cheer from the crowd and those within the studio. All her previous housemates were sparkling with jovial pride, and it seemed no one disliked her (’What a difference from Drag Race’ she thought).
On her way to the Bit On The Side studio, Courtney got a hole of her phone and sent the text she was dying to send (and admittedly, she felt a little doleful to see she had no messages thus far).
‘You’ll be happy to hear I won! I know, shock horror, queue the bitch parade of endless mockery that the British public must be blind or crazy! I miss you, I’ll call you later!’
She gave her phone back to her mother when they began filming the second show - more cheers and more applause, and the few spanners in the works as others scuffled - and while she was enjoying herself, she couldn’t wait to resign to her hotel bedroom later. The others seemed up to partying, going out to a few clubs or restaurants to celebrate, but Courtney was drained! Of course she kept up her sparkling appearance for everyone else’s sake, but all she wanted was to lay in bed and be on the phone to that one person.
When filming was over, she stayed another hour for pleasantries before insisting she had to go. A few of them exchanged numbers, Andrew in particular insisting Courtney hit him up before she flew back home. She would for sure, but with all the boys, not to get into any accidental experimenting that they’d come too close to while in the house. Saying her goodbyes, she made her way back to the hotel with her mother who had a different room booked.
“Take care.” Her mother said, hugging her tightly in front of Courtney’s room. “I’m so proud of you.”
Courtney’s cheeks were beginning to hurt how much she’d been smiling. “Thanks mum. But why don’t we just share a room? You didn’t have to book your own place.”
“Nonsense. You need some space after sharing with so many people. Relax. You’ll have a good night.” She kissed Courtney on the cheek and walked toward the elevator. A good night- thought that had already happened? “I’ll see you tomorrow, love!”
“Course. Night mum!” Courtney said, waving her off as the elevator doors closed. A sigh of relief left Courtney, for this was the most peace she’d had in over a month. The dreary buzz of a hallway light and nothing else, and the thoughts in her head able to whisper again with no fighting against other’s voices. Sweet serenity. There was only one thing that could make it better...
She opened the door and dragged herself through the room, ready to throw herself at the bed when suddenly her breath was caught in her throat. The surprise of a lifetime after such a substantial night, there he stood in his usual slacks and tank top, grinning with the utmost pride.
“Roy!” Courtney cheered, not letting him get a word in as she threw herself at him. She wrapped her legs around his waist as he caught her, burying her face in his neck. Her heart was soaring, hearing the familiar laugh she’d fallen in love with and needed more than anything. His hands on her back, his body against hers.
“Guessing your mom kept it a secret then?” He asked, putting her down but keeping his hands on her waist. Courtney’s face was beyond shocked, her smile brighter than it had been in weeks.
“She- wait, she knew about this?!” The lightbulb moment when she realised why her mum got her own room. She shook her head, holding Roy’s face in her hands. “I can’t believe you’re here!”
“Of course I’m fucking here! I was hoping you’d lose again so I could mock you, but I guess it’s nice to see you win, for once.” Roy teased. Courtney pushed him playfully, laughing, before finally pulling him close and kissing him. It felt like home, and she missed it so dearly.
Roy pulled away first, in the process pulling Courtney down on the bed and wrapping his arms around her. “Did you really think I wouldn’t fly out to see you?” He asked. Courtney turned over in the bed to face him, hands playing with his coyly.
“I thought you might have had a gig, I dunno-”
“I did. I cancelled.”
Courtney’s eyes went wide. “You never cancel?!” Roy just shrugged and held her hands tighter, his smile never leaving; his dimples poking holes in the flaws of their worries.
“Be a bit more grateful, cunt, I did it for you!” He took her hand to her lips and kissed over her knuckles. “I missed you...kind off.”
“You did?” Courtney hummed, walking her hands up Roy’s chest. “Are you going soft in your old age?”
Roy rolled his eyes, grabbing Courtney’s hands and pushing her on his back, pinning her down as he straddled her thighs. With Roy above her, his eyes mischievous, his hands tight on her wrists, it felt wholesome to return to his love after what felt like forever apart. Roy leaned down, mer inches from her lips.
“You certainly had fun in there. Andrew seemed nice.”
Courtney’s smirk fell cold at his words. She turned stiff, watching him eat up the delicious fear now plastered to her face, and stuttered. As much as everyone wanted to pretend it wasn’t, it was purely platonically with Andrew - with, maybe just a little bit of self indulging flirting for the sake of entertainment, but nothing more than that. Of course Andrew was absolutely gorgeous, and if she was single maybe she’d have toyed with the idea a little more, but they were nothing but cosy friends. Roy was more important, 100%.
Although, maybe Courtney could have done a better job of adhering to that fact. Less late night cuddling, more pining over the secret boyfriend waiting for her back home.
Eventually Courtney found her voice. “It really wasn’t anything, Roy. I don’t know what you saw, but we were-”
“Court, I’m playing with you. I just enjoy watching you sweat.” Roy laughed, closing the gap between them with a kiss. “Although given the chance, that boy probably would have fucked you, regardless of his heterosexuality.”
Courtney is quiet for a second, then grins. “You think?”
“Doesn’t matter, I’m here now, and we have a lot of catching up to do.” Roy holds her face in his hands as he lays down on top of her body, kissing her passionately. He’d missed it so much, the warmth of her body, the lines of her lips on his, the way his heart would sore when she’d hold his waist. His winner, regardless of what would have happened. He was just glad to have what was his back in his arms.
