The premise of the au is based around the fact that ballet dancers/companies still have very strict height limits.

König falls in love with ballet after watching a performance on the local news station. He's mesmerized by the ballerinas grace and poise, by the strength they make look effortless. He begs his mom for lessons and finds a home for himself dancing despite the teasing he gets for it at school. He's all set to become a professional dancer and he is fully pursuing that dream.

Then he hits 6 foot in eighth grade and doesn't stop growing. He stops getting cast in shows, towers over the ballerinas in a way that looks menacing instead of complimentary, he feels his dreams falling apart. Then by chance he gets cast as the rat king for his company's production of nutcracker and does so well at being scary that they sell out of tickets after the first rave review. It's the beginning of his career and also the end of his dreams of one day being the lead. He will always be cast as the villain.

He's signed to a company in America and feels like he's lost his love for the art. If he's only going to be type cast then what's the point? It's like he's being told over and over that he's only good for one thing and it's killing him. Especially when he meets you, one of the main dancers at his new company. You're everything he loved about ballet when he was a kid, you float and move like you a fairy and he is just taken with you. He wants so desperately to be more than a villain for you, he wants the love story on stage that he thinks you'd never give him off of it. But he's resigned himself to always be the villain for you.

Until you're both cast as the leads for beauty and the beast, and there's not time to change dancers between him taking off the mask and revealing the prince under the beast, and he gets to kiss you and love you under the lights for the world to see. And maybe he has a little panic attack when you smile and tell him you're excited to work together.
