The fact that Joe, his family and PR team ran a smear campaign is already terrible, Joe used children for PR and called the paparazzi is terrible, the fact that he pressured the third child, did not support after the second child and forced to go to events is terrible, but what information appeared now from the court documents (if I understood correctly) simply show that he is the worst. They were planning to live in England, they had already bought a house (if I understood correctly and there are probably documents about this), the daughter was supposed to go to an educational institution (I hope it was documented), and then this piece of shit changed his mind or something and he decided to persuade Sophie, for the children to go on tour with him, she was against it, but he pressed and she agreed, although she didn't want to, but she didn't know what he already planned at the time, and she thought that after she finished shooting Joan, the children would go to her to England where they will continue to live. And he intentionally filed for divorce while she was filming and while his children were with him and did not even have the courage to tell her about it, she found out through the media. I can't even imagine how Sophie felt and feels, I'm sure it's hard for her, I wish her patience and strength to get through everything and I really hope that she will win custody and take the children to England.

Honestly, it's crazy and the divorce is getting uglier everyday. I'm sad for the girls. Their life is being exposed to the world. I don't understand why the divorce fillings are public. Is there some kind of law about it ? Like I said I know nothing about it...

Honestly, if she can prove everything she's claiming in the document, it will be hard to say the contrary. Like you, I understand they bought a house in UK and were supposed to live there in december. There's probably a contract that Joe can't really deny... and if it was really signed in July, then we can believe everything else... that the divorce happened very suddenly. Imagine buying a house one month with someone, and only two next months later you decide to divorce. If I was Sophie, I would be very upset. And actually the fact they decided to sell their home in Miami last year totally support her claim.

If they had started searching for a school, there are probably proofs too, meeting, calls, maybe even documents.

Honestly, I feel like, based on what I've read on the document, Joe changed his mind (I'm not going to speculate on the reason) and didn't really tell her until recently. I don't really get why Florida is the right location for this case like Joe is saying in response. They lived in Miami in a little laps of time, from what I got. They lived in Los Angeles for a long time, their eldest was born there. Why Miami and not Los Angeles ? Is there a law in Florida that help in his case ?

If everything said in the document is true, I understand very well why she's angry.

And you know what I noticed ? In Joe's response, it said that the children were in his care for the last three months. Something we only got from "rumours" and "sources" until then.

Well, I'm going to stop there by saying that it will be horrible and terrible for everyone.

Truth be told, he didn't think about her much.

What was there to think about? It was all already settled - they'd had that dinner, before he'd shipped out for OCS, and he'd talked it all through for her. She'd talked a little bit about volunteering herself, and he agreed that of course it would be a good fit for her, with her family's history of service. They'd find a place for her in administration, or air traffic control, even!

A nice little adventure, before we get married, he'd called it. A girl ought to have some fun before she settled down into being Mrs. Havermeyer. And they would both look so smart, in their uniforms, for the write-ups afterwards and his eventual campaign for the House. A real all-American family - once they'd added a few kids to the mix, of course. The voters would like that.

And Joan would look so good as a mother.

She'd asked, during that last dinner, if he didn't think it would be better if they put what they had on pause for the duration, just a little break, while they... decided. Playing hard to get again, of course. But what was there to decide? He'd made his decision a long time ago.

They'd met at a formal dinner, a fundraiser for a cause he couldn't remember, and he'd known the minute he saw her that he had to have her. "Why, that's Joan!" the hostess had exclaimed, when he'd asked for an introduction. The prize of the social season and the prettiest girl in any room. A little hard to get, but he liked a challenge - he brought her flowers and took her to the opera and for picnics in the country, and met her for lunch sometimes in a little cafe down the street from the Map Division office where she worked.

No, it was all already settled, and he didn't think about it much once he was down in Miami at OCS. There were girls that needed dates down here, too, and that was fine - lonely was lonely wherever you were. He could have felt sorry for the guys here, but that was just their luck - his girlfriend at home wouldn't be taking dates with just anyone, he knew that for sure. That just wasn't the way Joan worked. She didn't write him terribly often, but that was just as well - he didn't have time to write her, either. Some fellows had girls who complained to high heaven about how often they got letters, but not Joan. She was pretty much perfect like that.

And once he got overseas, he just…didn't think about it, much. She was in a box, for the duration, wrapped in tissue, a beautiful thing he would return to after all of this was over unchanged and immaculate, and they'd go on just as they had before. He had a picture, in his locker, though he didn't bring it out much - pictures cramped a fellow's style when he had guests over for the night and he didn't like answering questions. They were here, now, and she was not - where was the question in that?

As their work started winding down he started reading more, and the Lee Miller from Berchtesgaden caught his eye. Someone's going to get it into his head that's she's available, he thought to himself. And we can't have that, now, can we?

Winter holiday recap part 4 (and last)

Taping auditions with the help of my sister, first time they ask me for a picture of my back

Meeting for dinner with Joan (already mentioned how he made me feel bad as he can so easily do, feeling much better about it)

Going to Cornella to meet with Mari, visiting the dying mall, walking and talking about race politics and political correctness. I love how she instantly makes me feel like I never left.

I wanted to use the transbordo but I can't, so I jump in the tram towards Maria Cristina without paying. Have to jump out in a rush in L'illa Diagonal when a ticket agent and a security guard enter the tram. My heart beat is flying. I feel stupid. I'm not 20 anymore, who does that?

Walk from there to La Foixarda and climb a bit by myself, then call my sister and talk to her while walking back to Plaza Espanya

Going shopping with my siblings for Reyes, my sister never shows up

I only eat two pieces of Roscon because all this time I've been trying to control my sugar intake since the doctor told me on my last physical that I was pre-diabetic

I would usually eat at least four and big ones

go to Barbera to hand with Marina for a bit before going to see Marc and Marina We hike in this area where there are rocks with weird shapes

we have pizzas and play a zombie survival board game that is all about team effort. Marina struggles with having to do what's best for the team instead of what she wants to do herself, she is very independent

that makes me veeeeeeery late to meet Juan Luis and Jaume, I'm not a great friend

I am driven to Badalona by Marc's nice friend Javi (otherwise I would have never made it)

We eat pizza, again, at the place where they sell it by the meter

it smells horribly of tobacco

Juan Luis tells me about his various ailments while Jaume is a bit off, maybe he's not ecstatic that I'm late

They drive me home

The last day before leaving we take the car and go up to Vilassar de Mar, to take advantage of the nice sun

a very nice bar owner let's us eat some things even though they just closed the kitchen, we have great fried artichokes

we take a selfie using a public stand erected by the town government for that purpose

The next day I wake up at 6am to go get the subway, then the subway, then the train, then the shuttle, then a plane to Munich, then a plane to Miami, then the airplane train, a metro rail train, a metro mover, to do it all in reverse the next morning to go back to the airport and then a plane to Atlanta.

The next day I get a rental to drive to Tallahassee for the FSU thesis films (but I've already talked about it)

Okay, I've rambled enough. Today is my sister's birthday. She came with the spring. Felicidades Ana!

I was collecting a number of my books from my father’s house, where they’ve sat for quite some time, and finally brought the rest of my Joan Didion collection home to my current apartment. I had some select things, but left the fiction (bleh) there for years, and left the academic criticism books there as well. But now it’s all here. I think every now and then about how stupid my undergrad project was, how I wish I had a better idea earlier on and could have focused on ‘Salvador’ more and not had to stick with her boring, mediocre fiction.

So. I don’t know. If I have time in life, and that’s hard to come by, I think, I think, I think I want to write something better, deeper, less juvenile about Ms Joan. I absolutely don’t want to be an apologist for her, as so many have been, myself included, but I swear I would never turn on her. Here: her fiction is shit, as anyone knows, and her earliest most famous works are not all they’re cracked up to be - though there are some absolute gems. But ‘Salvador’ stands to me as a favourite, as an absolute turn in where she found her greatest power. ‘Political Fictions’ and ‘Miami’ if I recall had some great writing in them.

So with all her books plus five books of criticism, I think I have enough material to work with. I miss being academic. Hopefully I’ll have the time and energy to do it.

This blog is kinda embarrassing. Some of it I stand by, and some of it I just thought was decent material. Kinda just wanted to have a nice library of quotations for other folks. And them reblogs, yknow? Microfame etc. Joan meant a lot to me. And, perhaps, she still does.

Lavar Munroe is a Bahamian interdisciplinary artist working primarily in mixed media painting, cardboard sculpture, and drawings. His work examines themes present in folklore, fables and historic films ­– drawing comparison between his upbringing in the Bahamas and travels to various countries in Africa. Addressing multiple narratives that span personal, historical and mythological references, Munroe’s work presents conflicts between a desire to escape and the longing for home while challenging us to journey beyond the familiar. 

Described as a hybrid medium between painting and relief sculpture, Munroe’s work often incorporates sentimental objects collected and gifted from his family and objects found during his travels. His work focuses on themes such as journey, utopia, magic, love and the celebration of escape through fantastical and dreamlike imagery. Munroe (b.1982, Nassau, Bahamas) earned his BFA from Savannah College of Art and Design (2007) and MFA Studio Art at Washington University, St. Louis (2013). He also attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (2013) and was awarded a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (2016), Benny Andrews Fellow from the MacDowell Colony (2016), and The Carolina Postdoctoral Program for Faculty Diversity-University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill NC (2014). 

Recent solo exhibitions include Jack Bell Gallery, London, England (2022, 2021, 2014); Walters Museum of Art, Baltimore, MD (2021); NOMAD, Brussels, Belgium (2017); Meadows Museum of Art, Shreveport, LA (2018); SCAD Museum of Art and Gutstein Gallery, Savannah, GA (2016); and The Central Bank, Nassau, Bahamas (2010). Notable group shows include The National Art Gallery of the Bahamas (2022); Centre Pompidou Metz, FR (2022); Ichihara Lakeside Museum (2020); Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, Virginia Beach, VA (2020); Perez Art Museum Miami, FL (2019); Jack Bell Gallery, London, UK (2017); and Nasher Museum of Art, Durham, NC (2015). He has also been featured in the Art Basel Miami Beach (2022); Kampala Biennale (2020); Off Biennale Cairo (2018); 12th Dakar Biennale, Senegal, West Africa (2016); and 56th Venice Art Biennale (2015). His work is in the collections of The Baltimore Museum of Art,  Fondation de France; Fondation Gandur pour l’Art, Genève, Switzerland; The Studio Museum of Harlem, New York, NY; The Central Bank of the Bahamas, Nassau, BA; The National Art Gallery of the Bahamas, Nassau, BA; and the MAXXI Museum, Rome, IT. 

He is the recipient of honors and awards including the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellow, Robert De Niro Award (2023), the Sondheim Artscape Prize Finalist (2021), Distinguished Alums Award from Sam Fox School of Art and Design from Washington University of St. Louis (2018), Postdoctoral Award for Research Excellence from the University of North Carolina (2015), Sam Fox Dean’s Initiative Fund (2013), Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters and Sculptors Grant (2013), Joan Mitchell Foundation Scholarship (2012), The Kraus Family Foundation Award (2011), and The National Endowment for the Arts Grant (2011).

In the same document, it says the couple had moved to purchase a property in Henley-on-Thames, England, which was due for completion this coming December.

Per the document, as Turner was working, it was decided that Jonas would take the children to America for his Jonas Brother Tour in August, as he’d have more free time during the day. Turner was due to meet up with them in September.

However, the marriage broke down in an alleged argument on August 15, Jonas’ birthday. Jonas then filed for divorce while his children were in America, which Page Six reports, Turner allegedly found out “through the media”.
