In spite of the spray misting with the thundering waves, in spite of the rolling mass of bottomless water underneath the manmade hull, the boy stays perched at the dragonhead, eyes free of apprehension and full of ambition, ever steady on the coastline drawing clearer with each passing hour. The fog has lifted with the early morning winds, and now a blue, frigid day reigns in splendour, the sun too far from the northern pole to provide any warmth. Breaths freeze over near the boy’s mouth, and Juris amuses himself by observing him. Not a classical beauty, not like those Kaelish men of leather and iron, shielded by armour and valour, that Juris grew up with when he was just a man himself. An impossible amount of lives ago. “Aren’t you scared, lad?” he asks―his tone not quite a murmur, but low enough for none at the oars to hear him. Black feathers, this raven figure has, and Juris does not want to see them ruffled by undue disparagement; let him keep his dreadful appearance without discrediting the fearlessness he radiates. Not even a glance his way, the mass of dark hair flying with the ravenous winds Juris has called forth. Only one curt, “No.” A prickly creature, and Juris can feel the smirk growing on his own face, shaping his mouth into a crooked slice. Because if the lad has eyes only for the sea, then Juris has eyes only for him.

“I am not your friend.” The young man cast him a clever, calculating look, as if he were appraising their relative strengths against his own. “However, I suppose I am not your enemy. I’m Kir Ilyan.”

You’re a liar, Juris thought. And a good one.

There’d been no beat or hesitation; he’d invented the name smoothly. Only the flicker of shadows to his dragon-sight betrayed the boy’s untruth.

Gift like yours, I can’t say I blame you. You’ll have learned never to trust our kind either.

NAMES ONE SHOT

This is an established Darkolai one shot where they are getting married and of course Aleksander will have to take the Lantsov name, which he already dislike, but he also gets extra angsty about losing the Kirigan last name.

In this, he got the Kirigan last name from Juris (in the form O' Ciaragain).

(unrelated but I have a second headcanon where Ciaragain is the nickname Juris gave him lmao, I can never decide).

So Nikolai discovers things about Aleksander's past and then they go to the Fold to exorcise his Volcra and guess who they meet...

“If you… You don’t have to tell me anything about it, of course, but if you’d like me to find a way to preserve your last name… Then please, do tell me, and I’ll find one. I don’t think we can get away with you not taking mine, but there are many ways to keep a name alive. We could— Name something with it?” Perhaps if it was someone’s name, that Aleksander had borrowed, they would have liked for their name to be given to something in particular, or— Aleksander let out an undignified chortle, finally putting down his pen as well and turning toward him to give him a wry smile. “Thank you for pointing out the absurdity of my current line of thoughts,” Nikolai gasped. “I’m not. It’s not absurd, and I just want—” “I know. You want to help,” Aleksander took his hand and slowly brought it to his lips, kissing his knuckles tenderly. “He has enough things named after him, I’m not sure what I was thinking,”

WIP Tag Game

Thank youuuuuuuu @goatsandgangsters for the tag!! Took me a while, but here goes!

I've hit a mean writer's block these past months that I hope will lift away some fateful day, but that does not mean several of these listed wips aren't marinating in my head day and night soooooo ONE DAY I'LL BE BACK!! but anyway, these are all GV fics (and i realise that i have NO folder for my wips so it's just a pure hazard opening my main doc folder each time, should def work on that)

RULES: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, and then post a little snippet or tell them something about it! and then tag as many people as you have WIPs.

the cabin au (where alina and aleksander must hole in during a fjerdan blizzard that interrupts the first book stag hunt and where aleksander is injured and alina is just done with the shit hand life continues to throw her way. lots of spite and hurt/comfort and mutual frustration in that one, which is a killer combo imo)

we are the wild youth chasing visions of our future (that epic AU darklina fic that i will one day finish!! i swear on my life!!!!)

the darkolai priest/demon modern AU that @darkolaism and i fantasise about (so hannigram-konstantin/medved mashup i guess)

And that's it! not a ton of fics, but still too many for my current much too low energy. I've realised I put way too much info related to each title, but fuck it. Anyway, one day, my man will come back from the war (my man = writing mojo, the war = fuckin life)
