Friends & Lovers:
Tumblr media
Masterlist | Rules | Peaky Prompts
Trigger Warnings: a lil bit of WWI angst.
Word Count: 1,510
Characters: Ada Shelby x Y/N, Thomas Shelby x Y/N
Requested: Yes by Anon, you can find it here +
Tumblr media
Ada laughed as you waltzed around in one of Tommy’s old coats. It was one he’d kept from years ago, before everything went downhill. It had acquired quite a lot of dust on it until you’d found it in the attic that day. Causing you to sneeze every so often as you pranced around.
“Do the voice! Do the voice!” Ada yelled as you cleared your throat, doing the worst-yet best impression of your lifelong friend and lover.
“When I was in France…” You’d say, trying to make your voice reach a low octave as you folded your arms trying to look tough.
As you felt the soft fabric in your hands, you looked out the window, thinking back to all those happy moments with him, and Ada of course.
You’d been with the Shelby family practically all your life. You being the same age as their brother John, living right next door to them on Watery Lane.
You were there through all their hardships. Giving each of the boys a long hug before they left for the war.
To Arthur, you were like a sister. To Ada, well - you were her lifelong best friend. Her go to gossiper, glittery makeup tester, and her most trusted person. But to John and Tommy, you were their first crush.
John tried to get you first, trying to play with a ball on the streets in front of you. Forever trying to impress you with his sporting skills. Eventually you decided to engage in some games with him. And even sneakily sharing a kiss in the alley between your houses as alcohol flowed through both your veins one night. But you refused to go any further, knowing he wasn’t the one you yearned for.
In contrast with John, you rejected playing sports after a while. Opting for sitting down on the front steps, drawing life around you and often reading. Ada would come out too, shipping her best friend with the blue eyes blinder.
Tommy would see you from in the house, watching you go into your own little world as you’d draw and read. He seemed to be the only one that understood you, being a bit withdrawn himself, he’d sit with you and talk about anything, just to hear your voice. Just to see your smile. But he always liked Ada teasing you, cuz then he could hear your laugh which he thought about often.
Years later you’d come to find out he’d check out the same books at the library and stay up reading till sunrise, just so he’d know about the book and could talk about it with you.
But one day as you grew older, you had went off to school in London, making new friends and establishing yourself slightly. Thomas hadn’t gotten the courage to ask you out yet, but his letters always hinted at something more.
When news of the boys being drafted got out, you raced home, knowing it may be the last time you’d see the men you’ve grown to love. Hoping that maybe after the endless years of talking and confiding in each other, he’d admit the one thing he knew deep down. That Tommy loved you, and always had.
So before they left, he grabbed you by the waist pulling you into a kiss that only novels would dare to describe. Your eyes tearing up as he broke away from you in the alley. Oddly the same alley you’d shared your first kiss with John.
“I love you Y/N…I do. If I don’t make it back…just know I’ll always love you aye? Look out for Ada and Pol for me. I’ll write to you.” He said, wiping a tear away from your cheek as the rain started to pour. He looked at his pocket watch as you’d seen the once innocent and docile Thomas turn to a hard-faced man of stone. The fear that he could very well come home in a box plaguing his mind as he hugged you one last time.
“You’ll come back. I know you will. I love you.” You said through your tears, kissing him once more before he left for what felt like an eternity.
But you were right. He did come back. He was a different man, but he came back nonetheless.
It took a while for him to settle back into civilian life, as it did for his brothers and so many others. But you were the one person he could confide in. You felt as if you’d seen the hell he’d been through as he described it to you. He’d sit on the floor of his old room on watery lane with your head lying gently on his lap as he told you about what happened over there. Knowing he at least could tell you, and that you tried your hardest to understand. He’d often stroke your hair as he continued, pausing his story to wipe tears from his eyes and then from yours as he relived the darkest moments of his life. But he knew that as long as he had you, he was going to be okay.
Years later, he’d made sure of that though, seeing as you married him and officially joined the Shelby family. John was understanding through everything, he knew early on that Tommy had won you over, but he always cherished that first kiss. Not thinking anyone could top that until his wife Esme came along.
“Where’d ya go love?” Ada asked, snapping her fingers in front of you as you’d stared off, reminiscing about the past.
“You know where I was.” You said with a wink, as you continued staring out your window.
“You gonna wear that all night?” Ada asked, giggling as you’d realized you’d still had Tommy’s coat on. It fit you perfectly since it was from so long ago, but wearing it always brought you back.
“Y/N…” Ada said, pointing to the doorframe as your husband stood there quietly with a smirk.
“What? Just thought I’d try it on…Don’t I look cute?” You asked, your heart racing as you came back to reality. Knowing that you were with him, and that he was indeed okay. Damaged, but okay.
“Awe look at the love birds. Oi why didn’t we act like that Y/N?” John asked as he held his wife’s hand. They’d just came in your house unannounced like they often did these days, especially after the business started picking up.
“Fucking what?” Tommy asked, his gaze going from you to his brother in a split second.
“When was this?” He asked, letting you go as he loosened the cuff links on his shirt.
“I’m going to let you fight this one.” Ada said to you as she quietly left the room.
“Love. Sweetheart. It’s okay he’s talking about when we were kids. We shared a kiss in the alley one time when we were drunk. You’d been away with Johnny and Pol in the countryside.” You said quickly, a nervous laugh escaping as you watched your husbands jealousy turn to amusement.
“It was nothing more than that my love.” You said, reassuring the dashing man next to you with a kiss.
“Well it looks like I won in the end aye?” Tommy teased, calming down and sitting on the edge of his desk as you sat next to him. Intertwining your hands together and giving him a peck on the cheek.
“See? She’s always loved ya mate. But it’s alright cuz I found me a real showstopper aye?” John said, Esme drunkenly laughing at his side as he kissed her passionately.
“John…?” You asked, grabbing Tommy’s cigarette and taking a hit. His eyes on you as you blew smoke out your mouth, smirking. It was an unspoken thing you’d do often, but it made him weak at the knees every time.
“Yes?” John asked from the hall, Esme trying to drag him to the spare bedroom.
“Since you’ve both walked into my house like you own the place, can you two clean the room after you’re done?” You asked, Esme rolling her eyes as John looked at his friend.
“C’mon really?” He asked annoyed.
“Mhm. Maid is off tomorrow.” You said before turning back to Tommy. His eyes were on you as he glided his hands over your hips. A smile forming as he pulled you close.
“You know you’re the only one who can tell my brothers what to do?” He asked as you kissed him.
“Mhm. I’m your girl, so they have to do what I say right?” You said cheekily.
He blew a puff smoke out as he smiled at you, that knowing look in his eye as he led you to your all’s bedroom.
“Let me put this back.” You said taking off the coat, his hands stopping you midway through.
“Keep it. You look better in it love.” He said, kissing you as he took your hand, continuing to lead you to the bedroom. The coat soon becoming an afterthought as it lied along the mahogany floors.

Anna's Secret:
Tumblr media
Holiday Oneshot Request for Anon <3
Trigger Warnings: Drinking but that's obvious.
Characters: Thomas Shelby x Daughter/OC + Family
I'm living vicariously through Anna. Like damn girl you get Timmy C all to yourself huh.
Tumblr media
The sound of glasses clashing and men yelling filled the room as the garrison filled up with people. The Shelby New Years Eve party started “whenever the first person drinks” Arthur said, shoving a glass of whiskey towards the woman at the end of the bar. She stopped the glass from sliding past and drank it like water. This was something she’d gotten from her father. Which wasn’t always a good trait.
She stared at her uncle and smirked, rolling her eyes as she turned towards the door, waiting for her father to come bursting through.
As he entered the rowdy pub, he caught a glimpse of his daughter Anna, the cerulean eyed beauty of Birmingham. The one who went hunting with her uncles at 10 and threw punches at 15. The one who’d kept Tommy on his toes since the day of her birth.
Anna’s mother was sweet, caring, and often seen as “far-too-nice” to be with someone as cold as Thomas. But he liked that about her. She, and their unruly daughter were the reason he stayed somewhat sane. Mrs. Shelby was never one for parties though, so she entrusted her husband and in-laws to look after her while she visited Ada on weekends. The two of them getting in their own versions of trouble as they kept the family gossip alive.
“Anna” Thomas said, coming up to her with his hands drawn behind him. His eyes tearing into hers as they always do.
“Don’t go too crazy with the booze tonight aye? Make it a good New Year, love.” He said patting her on the back.
“Mhm” Anna mumbled, finishing another glass as she thought about a few days before the party.
It was a cold afternoon, her hand held tightly by the man she’d loved for months. They’d met at the pub while she visited Ada. But she on the other hand, was just as bad of an influence as a good one. Always letting her niece stay over when needed, and with whoever she wanted. But this was different. He asked if she wanted to date officially, seeing as it was almost New Years and he didn’t want to spend it without her.
She agreed, only hesitating for a second as she thought of what her father would think.
“You gonna tell ‘em?” Ada asked, already slurring her words slightly as her voice snapped Anna from her thoughts.
“Don’t know. Maybe.” She said, gulping down the rest of her whisky as she walked aimlessly around the bar.
“What’ll ya have?” She asked Tommy as he conversed with Polly. Her eyes fleeting over to her every now and then. She’s always had a keen eye for love.
“You alright?” He asked as she heavily poured the whiskey into his glass.
“Yeah. Just pouring a drink for ya. And one for me.” She said, pouring her a glass as she doctored it up with various ingredients. Raising her glass up to his before taking a swig. Polly shaking her head with a smirk.
“You’re the same person, really.” She said, seeing a grin forming on Tommy’s lips.
“She didn’t exactly have much of a choice now aye?” He said, Anna rolling her eyes as she knocked back the rest of her whiskey.
“Well I’m going to annoy Finn, you two ‘ave fun.” Anna said, eyeing her youngest uncle in the corner. He was drinking and gambling with Isiah, his lifelong friend and fellow blinder.
“Can I play?” She asked as they made a space for her at the small table.
“Mhmm, loser chugs the pitcher though.” He said, smirking. Everyone knew she was wild, her reputation around Small Heath only growing as she ran ‘round the place. She was nice like her mother, but cruel like her father, and she wouldn’t let anyone walk over her.
“Fuck.” She yelled as she slammed her cards down. Grabbing the pitcher of beer as Finn and Isiah laughed.
Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for her to feel the effects. The whiskey quickly catching up to her as she went around the room bugging her family and poking fun at her cousins. She laughed loudly as Ada slipped by and told her a joke. Tommy looking over and running a hand through his graying hair.
“You have to tell him Anna. At least at some point.” She said, walking with her over to where Polly and Tommy stood. money and business plots running through both their minds as they drank.
“Told you not to go too heavy now Anna.” He said.
“I know I know. Just wish I could see him now. Bastard had to go to another party…” she mumbled, not realizing what she’d said.
“Who?” He asked, sitting his drink down and crossing his arms as he looked into her eyes.
“My boyfriend…” she said, her eyes widening at the fact that she’d told him.
Polly chuckled as Tommy’s face turned from slight disappointment, to anger, and then a smirk.
“I knew it.” Polly said as she sipped champagne, the clock had just struck midnight, but Anna hardly noticed.
“Well tell him we’d like to meet him. And to ‘ave a happy new year.” He said, his face impossible to read as he knocked back the last of his whiskey.
“I-I will...” She said, crossing her arms just like he had, as she realized what she’d done.
After the hours passed, the ride to Ada’s was fun yet awkward, her driving sporadic as she sang happily and cracked jokes to Anna.
“He’ll lighten up love. We just have to see if the poor lad can make it 5 minutes with us.” She said, earning a smirk from her niece.
“Oh joy.” Anna said, drunkenly thinking about her boyfriend having to meet the infamous blinders face to face.

Masterlist | Rules | Peaky Prompts
Trigger Warnings: None really
Word Count: 1,086
Characters: Thomas Shelby x Y/N (ft. Esme + Polly)
Requested by: Anon
Summary: Y/N doesn't know how Thomas feels about her, thinking he'd never fall for someone like her. But things change after one over-heard phone call.
Tumblr media
“Why’d ya do that?” Arthur asked Tommy as he sulked about his office.
“I had to, if I didn’t there would’ve been witnesses and witnesses are no good for us now.” He said, clenching his jaw.
“It was for the best. The whole lot were dying.” He said nonchalantly, his clothes still stained with blood.
“You couldn’t just let them go after a beat down? I had them in line.” Arthur said, his fists bloodied and bruising in spots.
“Tell that to the one who got away.” Tommy sighed, remembering the man who’d escaped.
“What are we to do then aye? Sit on our asses all day?” Johnny chimed in.
“Mhm” he said, walking out of the room as he undid his shirt. Flinging the bloodied shirt to the ground near his trusty assistant.
Your eyes scanned him as he walked to the wardrobe, pulling out a clean linen button up and slipping it on.
“Did you get those letters done Y/N?” He asked, not noticing how your pupils dilated and your breathing hitched at the sight of him.
“Yes. I handed them off to Polly. She delivered them.” You said, sheepishly looking down at your typewriter.
“Good. Thank you love.” He said quickly, leaving before you could react.
Your heart raced as you over-analyzed what he called you. “Love.”It wasn’t just the word, but it was in the way he said it. It was quick, so as to hide emotion, but soft enough to make you wonder if he felt the same.
As the day turned to night, some of the other employees went home, while others lingered nervously.
Polly sulked near the window, her hands white-knuckling a mug of tea as she waited for her boys to come home.
“He said 9:00 pm. It’s 10:00. If Johns not back soon I’m giving him an earful.” Esme said, moving her hand over her small baby bump.
“Hey Y/N why are you still here love? That bastard say to stay?” Esme asked as you walked out to the common room.
“Mhm. Finishing the paperwork. Said he felt better if I stayed.” You said, thinking back to the day before. Him discussing the boys’ plans with you while you were typing away at a rather long document.
“You mean you want me to stay here and wait for you? Why?” You’d asked, your heart skipping a beat.
“Because I may need you.” He said with a straight face, his eyes fleeing from yours for a moment as you processed everything. He pulled a cigarette out of his coat pocket, looking at you as he lit it. A puff of smoke escaping his lips.
“You’ll be safer here.” He said, slowly walking out as you watched from your desk.
“Ahh I see. Tommy’s at it again…” Esme said with a smirk, snapping you out of your thoughts.
“What?” You asked.
“Oh nothing love. He usually doesn’t have his assistant stay with us on long nights.” She said, looking at Polly with a knowing glance.
“C’mon Y/N, you have to admit he’s handsome. Anyone could have him but he wants you. He’s not good at showing it is all.” She said, wiggling her eyebrows slightly. Teasing you with new knowledge as you sat at the edge of her desk.
“Look at that, red as blood.” Polly said, walking over and patting you on the shoulder.
“He’s good at hiding it. But we’ve noticed. He doesn’t just undress like that. At least not around us.” Polly said smirking into her tea.
“Mhm. Well, um…I’ve enjoyed the chat loves, but I’m going back to my office.” You said, your face flushing as you awkwardly excused yourself.
As you tried to distract yourself with one of Thomas’ books, you continued to hear Esme and Polly making up things as they waited.
Your heart soon jumping out of your chest though as a call rang through.
“Hello?” You asked, your heart calming once you heard a familiar voice.
“Oh, hi Moira. Nothing I’m just at work late again. Yes…yes I know I’m lucky to work for him-do I what?…Want to sleep with him?” You questioned, hoping the others weren’t hearing your friend teasing you on the other line.
“I mean, yes he’s nice looking, I doubt he’d ever sleep with me though. No-no I don’t know if he’s well-endowed alright? Christ Moira. Can we talk tomorrow? I’ll meet you at the pub aye.” You said, feeling eyes on you from a distance.
“Alright love, see ya tomorrow.” You said hanging up and shaking your head slightly as you turned around in your seat.
“Esme not now I-“ you said, stopping shortly after you saw the handsome man leaning against the door frame. His shirt was bloodied for the second time that day. His pants and shoes covered in mud. And a long crimson line of blood running down the side of his cheek. The sound of his cigarette lighter quickly snapping you out of your trance as he smirked slightly.
“I hear you want to fuck me aye?” He asked, your eyes widening as you tensed up. Your face warming up with each second that passed.
“Who told ya that?” You asked, chuckling nervously as he walked closer.
“I heard everything Y/N…” He said, moving closer to you as you swallowed your response down your throat.
“It was just an honest conversation, Tommy.” You said, brushing it off as you got up. His hand catching yours and pulling you back to him.
“Honest aye?” He said, moving his hands to your waist as you thought about everything leading up to this point. He didn’t want you. Did he? He kept his desires to himself, unknown to you. Letting his gaze linger on you for longer than needed, getting lost in your voice at meetings, and thinking about seeing you each day knowing your smile will greet him at the door.
“Mhm. I…I doubt you do though. I’ll-I’ll just go.” You said, taking his hands off your waist.
“Who said I didn’t?” He asked, your eyes locking with his as he lifted a finger to your chin, lightly guiding your lips to his as you melted into him.
“Oi! Y/N. We’re uh…gonna go. Have fun you two.” Esme said with a wink. Thomas shaking his head as you buried your face in his chest.
“Well now that’s settled, what do we do now?” You asked, kissing him once more before he replied.
“I have a few ideas.” He said, leading you to his office.

Through the Looking Glass:
Tumblr media
Masterlist | Rules | Peaky Prompts
Trigger Warnings: Angst, some Season 5 type shit.
Characters: Bonnie Gold x Female!Reader + Finn Shelby and Isiah Jesus
Word Count: 1,305
Requested: Yes, by the lovely @peakyrogers ily bae. You can find it here. <3
Summary: Y/N joins a skeptical Bonnie and his pals on an eerie trek into the woods in search of an alleged haunted house. Little do they know just what awaits them.
Tumblr media
Y/N and her boyfriend Bonnie walked quietly along the streets. It was cold, rainy, and the air seemed off. Y/N looked over her shoulder as she took Bonnie’s hand. His brows laced with concern as he closed his fingers around hers.
“What’s wrong love?” He asked, hoping he didn’t attract any negative attention due to his affiliation with the blinders.
“Nothing…I just felt like someone was watching us. Does it feel like that to you?” She asked, swallowing hard as she stopped along the pavement.
“I don’t feel a thing. I don’t really believe in that stuff ya know?” He said, taking her hand again and leading her to his friend’s Finn and Isiah.
“Believe in what Bon?” Y/N asked, a smirk crossing his face.
“Ghosts. Haven’t seen one. Your mind can play tricks on ya, makin’ ya see things that aren’t there. That’s what my father told me at least.” He said, opening the door to the boxing gym. Y/N nodded, hoping it was just her mind after all.
Inside, Isiah and Finn were finishing up. Their bodies covered in sweat and varying shades of red from their injuries.
“There they are! You ready for tonight Y/N?” Finn asked, wiping his face off with a towel.
“Ready for what? Bonnie what’d you do?” She asked, playfully hitting his arm.
“I may have found a haunted house we can explore…” He said.
“You said you don’t believe.” Y/N stated.
“That doesn’t mean we can’t have a little bit of fun now aye? C’mon.” He said taking her hand as they followed the other young blinders.
The walk there was dark and cold, much like earlier, except now all the creepy animals had come out to play. Y/N clutched Bonnie’s hand as she peered through the trees, swearing she saw golden eyes staring back at her.
“Did you see that?” She asked, her voice a whisper in the dark.
“See what?” Bonnie said, cracking a pearly half smile.
“The eyes. They’re staring.” She said pointing to the trees. Bonnie narrowed his eyes and got in front of her protectively.
“See?” She asked.
“I see a lot of trees. That’s what I see darlin’” he said, earning a hard smack to the shoulder. In the distance Finns voice rang out.
“It’s over here…just have to sneak through this alleyway.” He said, lighting a cigarette as he walked down the narrow strip.
Y/N took a deep breath as she walked through the narrow path. The old buildings bursting with green ivy and dark stories.
“Aye, look.” Isiah said, pointing to the decrepit house in the distance. It’s structure black with crumbling stones and creaking stairs.
As they walked inside, the house seemed to groan as they crept through the halls. Finn and Isiah went one way, and Bonnie and Y/N went the other.
“It’s just an old house, love.” He said as she clutched his arm, her heart racing as they continued on.
In the distance a short scream was heard. Footsteps soon came running to where they stood.
“Guys you have to see this holy shit!” Finn yelled, leading everyone to an old library.
“If you stand here long enough you can see yourself…and your fears.” He said, looking into an old looking glass.
“Who told you that?” Bonnie questioned.
“Isiah, said his father went here once long ago. His friend looked through it and didn’t speak for a week.” He said.
“No, let’s go back. We haven’t looked at the other rooms yet.” Y/N said, tugging Bonnie’s arm as he pulled her into him, his arm snaking around her waist.
“Don’t think about it much love. It’s ok, I’m here.” He said, watching Finn in the distance as he looked through once more.
To Finn it seemed like time stood still, his fear of failure playing in front of him as if it were real. He was broke, homeless, and most of all a disappointment to the Shelby family. But just as he fell into its trance, Bonnie yelled his name once more, snapping him out of it.
“What’d ya see?” He asked.
“Um…me disappointing the family.” He said as Isiah chuckled.
“Really mate? I think you’ve already done that!” Isiah said jokingly, earning a stern punch in the shoulder and slight smirk from Finn.
“Y/N…you’re next.” Finn said, handing her the looking glass.
With shaking hands she grasped it, hoping to whatever god was up there that she wouldn’t break it.
Upon gazing into the reflective surface, she felt compelled to look closer. Moving the glass closer towards her as she saw something forming before her.
A young man similar to Bonnie appeared. He was sullen and weak. His eyes dark and clothes torn.
“Don’t let him die Y/N.” The man said, his voice an eerie whisper as she saw the next image. There was a wooden cross in the distance and an odd whistling sound. The hairs on the back of her neck stood up as she watched him being drug onto a cross by cloaked beings that were reminiscent of the grim reaper.
“No forest.” The man said as the image zoomed to his face, full of pain as he hung there crucified.
“Who are you talking about?” Y/N asked.
“The one you love most. You’ll lose them if you don’t act fast. No forest.” He said before everything went black.
“Y/N? Love can you hear me? Hey…hey…” Bonnie’s voice whispered as she came to. Her ears ringing as she looked around the old house.
“You all take your turns and then let’s go. Please.” She said, shifting nervously in her boyfriends embrace.
“I’ll give it a go.” Bonnie said, smirking as he looked into it, the world stopping as he saw his father’s disappointment. The boxing bell rang as he looked through the crowd. Y/N was there, crying one moment and then gone the next. He’d lost both of his loves. His biggest match, and his girlfriend.
“Bon? Aye c’mon we can’t be here much longer.” Isiah said nervously.
Bonnie snapped out of it soon, handing the glass off to Isiah.
“I’m okay. I don’t want to get into that. Dad will kill me.” He said, remembering how distraught his fathers friend had been.
“Ok, well then let’s go. Tommy’s got orders for us tomorrow.” Finn said, heading towards the exit.
As they all hesitantly walked through the alley and into the forested area again, Y/N stopped. Bonnie looked at her with concern as she brought him into a tight hug.
“Whatever you do. P-please don’t stay out here. Even if your dad wants to camp here, don’t. You have to promise me.” She said with tears in her eyes.
“Did you see something bad about us? Living out here?” He asked wiping a tear from her cheek.
She nodded, silently walking on while holding his hand for dear life. She wasn’t much on fortune telling, seeing as her family was skeptical, but she warned him anyways, knowing even the youngest of the blinders could get themselves into bad situations.
It was on the walk back that she vowed to herself to not let him go in the coming weeks. Making sure he and his father had adequate places to stay instead of out in the dark forest.
“Just please promise me Bonnie. You and your father won’t stay out here. Come to my place…it’s safer alright?” Y/N said.
Bonnie sighed and pulled her close to him. His warmth radiating off of him as he brought his lips to hers.
“I promise.” He said before closing the gap between them.
“Aye quit making out. We have to get back or Tommy will be the scariest sight we’ve seen all day.” Finn said, earning a laugh from everyone but Y/N, who was lost in thought - or more so worry, about the future.

Champagne Fire:
Tumblr media
Holiday Oneshot Request for @mootiemoose <3
Peaky Prompt: Humor #11
Trigger Warnings: None
Characters: Arthur Shelby x F!Reader
Tumblr media
You stumbled lightly as the bubbly went to your head, just barely missing a statue to your right.  “Fuck” you mumbled, going towards the bar in the living room. It had been a tense night, Tommy had organized a plan to literally “burn out” one of the guys who’ve caused him trouble over the years.  Sighing, you poured yourself another drink as the clock ticked closer to midnight. As the hands went by, it was as if you could see the building going up in flames. Your mind going to the worst case scenario’s more often than not. People are yelling inside, namely the man who’d caused trouble, and Arthur.  You shook your head slightly, dismissing the thought as “just nerves” and took a huge sip from the bottle. “Who needs the fancy fookin glasses. Christ I got the bottle all to myself after all.” You’d said aloud, walking over to the grand piano by the front window.  “Wonder if I’m better drunk…” You wondered to yourself as the clock struck midnight. Fireworks went off in the distance, illuminating the sky and stopping your drunken symphony. The keys relieved you’d stopped playing them.  “Why thank you. Thank you sky. Glad…glad I could play for you.” You slurred as you gazed out the window, chuckling at yourself as you realized Arthur hadn’t made it home like he promised. It was now 12:05, and the only solace was chugging the damn bottle.  You stumbled through the cottage he’d persuaded you to move into. The stones cold against your feet as you made your way to the kitchen.  “I’m gonna make cake. That’s what I’ll do. If he’s not home by then I’ll make him regret it tomorrow.” You mumbled to yourself once more.  Your vision blurred as you tried reading your own handwriting. The recipe showing the time you should allow for baking.  But in typical Y/N fashion, you haphazardly mixed the ingredients together, throwing the pan roughly into the old oven and going about your night. It seemed as if only minutes had passed as you swayed to the records playing in the distance. Your laughing filling the otherwise empty halls.  You were one sip away from finishing the bottle though, when you’d heard the front door opening. Arthur walked in, smelling of smoke. He shook out his cap and coat and glanced over at you, swaying and drinking the last of the champagne. He smirked as he made his way to you. Wrapping his arms around your waist as he guided you around the room. It was like your wedding night, slowly dancing while your favorite song played.  “I played the sky a song…ya know.” You said, stopping him and kissing his lips a little too roughly for his liking. “Are you drunk?” He asked, a smirk on his face as he thought of the past times you’d had a little too much. “Fuck you. Fuck Tommy. Fuck the whole lot honestly.” You stammered. “I’ll take that as a yes.” He said, watching as you smiled and trash talked his family at the same time. You were the only one that got away with it too, the Shelby family getting quite the kick out of your bad impressions, snarky remarks, and slurred heated opinions.  “S’that what ya did all night then ay” He said, watching you. “Yeah…had to bring in the new year by myself. Too busy startin’ them fires to kiss your wife apparently.” You said, getting up and walking towards the hall. In the distance you smelled something burning, your head not yet connecting the fact that you’d left the cake to incinerate an hour ago.  “I wasn’t the only one starting fires love!” He yelled after you, chuckling as you grabbed the wall for support on your way to the kitchen. “You gonna help me or what?” You asked loudly, your heart racing as you smothered the flames as best you could.  “I leave you alone during New Years and you try to burn our house down? Christ Y/N…” He said, putting out the rest of the flames in minutes as his calloused hands did the work. “Mhmm. Had to make it exciting.” You said with a smirk. Kissing him on the cheek before stumbling to the bedroom. Your head and your husband most likely going to hate you tomorrow.

Masterlist | Rules | Peaky Prompts
Trigger Warnings: idk uh sex.
Characters: Tatiana Petrovna x Female!Reader
Word Count: a lot of slutty, slutty words.
Requested By: Anon, you can find it here.
Summary: Tatiana lets Y/N have her way after a suspenseful night.
A/N: IF YOU'RE UNDER 18 PLZ BE A GOOD NOODLE & DON'T READ IT. You've been warned. 💕
Tumblr media
The sound of heels on the marble floor echoed throughout Y/N’s mansion. Her heart racing as she touched up her makeup and straightened out her lace dress.
It was the night of the ball. Something Tatiana had been going on about for ages. She’d said she had business dealings with a certain Thomas Shelby though.
Y/N’s heart sank as she realized she wouldn’t be able to spend the whole evening with the love of her life, seeing as the business Tatiana conducted wasn’t exactly legal.
“How was the meeting Tatiana?” She asked, watching as the woman she loved walked in without blinking an eye.
“His wife got shot. But it was alright. I managed to get some business taken care of before everything fell apart.” She said, curling up on the plush bed near the window.
“You don’t seem shaken up about it love.” Y/N stated.
“I’ve seen worse. The poor woman bled out in minutes. It’s a shame. She was pretty.” She said with a slight wicked smirk.
“Well then.” Y/N scoffed playfully, undoing her robe to reveal a red lace set of lingerie.
“Why are you all dressed up? Are you making sure I didn’t fall for the deceased?” Tatiana asked, biting her lip.
“No. I’ve just missed you. We went to the ball but never once were seen together.” Y/N said with a sad look in her eyes.
“Next time there’s an event, I’ll make sure we’re together. I promise Y/N.” She said undoing her own dress quickly as you sat on the edge of the bed.
“Good. Because I want them to know you’re mine.” Y/N said, moving to where she was straddling Tatiana. Her pussy growing wet at just the thought of her mouth lost in her depths.
As you swayed your hips slightly, Tatiana grapped them firmly. Steadying you so you could kiss for what felt like an eternity.
You slowly broke the kiss though, biting and sucking your way down her neck, leaving small bruises as you made your way down.
Tatiana gasped as you bit her nipples slightly. Her breasts peeking up in excitement as you grabbed them. You continued your games, trailing kisses down her stomach, stopping right at her clit.
It was supple glistening, just waiting to be messed with. She gasped as you kissed her clit again, blowing cool air onto it as you teased her thighs.
“Please…Y/N.” She said, grabbing her hair.
“Not yet love. I’m not done.” Y/N said with a devilish grin.
“Fuck…” Tatiana moaned quietly as you circled around her clit, gently applying pressure until she was about to burst.
“Don’t cum yet darling.” Y/N said, kissing her clit once again before moving to her lips, the kiss desperate yet passionate.
“I’ll get you back…for this…” Tatiana said, grabbing her hair and coaxing her downward.
“I’m looking forward to it.” Y/N said before licking all over her pussy. The taste of her making her own arousal grow as she heard Tatiana’s moans. She was moaning Y/N’s name. Not anyone else’s, and it drove you wild knowing your name was on her lips.
You slowly slipped you tongue in and out, causing Tatiana to rock her hips slightly as she grabbed your head to create more pressure.
“Harder.” She said breathlessly as you picked up your pace and buried your tongue further in. You brought one and up, gripping her thigh, while the other was circling her clit feverishly.
“Oh….” You heard her say as she ground herself on your face. Her cum coating your mouth and nose as she came closer to the edge.
“Keep going…” Tatiana said, her hands releasing your hair as she gripped the sheets around her. You felt her clenching inside as you kept your pace, knowing she’d let loose at any moment.
And she did, loudly moaning and grinding down on you as she came. Desperately begging for more.
“Fuck me…now.” She said, her eyes serious despite the flushing of her cheeks.
“Alright.” Y/N said, eating her out once more before putting a few fingers in side her. She started her movements slow, allowing her to adjust. Her hips bucking upwards as you thrusted them in faster and harder. She squealed and moaned as you continued, finger-fucking her until she came close again.
“Oh god….Y/N….” She said loudly, her moans and breaths becoming more erratic as she circled her own clit and fingered herself with her other hand.
Y/N gently curled her fingers up, finding Tatiana’s g-spot as she moaned her name. The next orgasm was eminent. He walls clenching around your fingers as she opened like a flood gate. Her juices spraying out blissfully onto you and the bed.
“Oh no….” Tatiana said breathlessly as she shook from her massive orgasm.
“We’re going to have to clean this up.” Y/N said.
“Not until I’m done with you my love.” Tatiana said, moving to where she was straddling Y/N now. She knew she had it coming, but she wanted as much time with her beautiful girlfriend as possible, seeing as the next few weeks she’d be conducting some risky business.

The Proposal:
Tumblr media
Masterlist | Rules | Peaky Prompts
Trigger Warnings: So much Fluff that my teeth are hurting from how sweet it is.
*Based off Fluff Prompt #5 from my Peaky Prompts list.*
Word Count: 1,249
Characters: Thomas Shelby x Reader
Requested by: Anon, you can find it here.
Summary: Y/N’s ordinary day at work turns into the surprise of a lifetime.
Tumblr media
Your eyes were covered with a blindfold as Polly led you to what felt like a field, given there was grass beneath your feet and you could feel your clothes catching on the tall wheat plants swaying in the wind as you followed her lead.
“Am I being kidnapped by your family? What have I done?” You asked with a smile, Polly laughing lightly as she led you onward.
“We wouldn’t dare kidnap you. You’re too precious.” She said, thinking about how you’d been there for Tommy during his darkest moments, seeing him off before the war and putting him back together when he came back. It was a slow process, but you made sure to be one of the only constant things in his life. The only one who could get him to let half of his walls down since they were built up like a fortress. The stones so heavy you didn’t think you’d be able to bear them yourself. But you did, and here you were being led on one of the most interesting times of your life, blindfolded of all things.
“It’s getting late Pol, I was supposed to meet Tom at the Garrison remember?” You asked, your mind racing with how the days events unfolded.
You’d gone through half the days work to find a letter written by none other than your long-time boyfriend Thomas Shelby. The infamous main man of the backstreet razor gang you’d come to love. The letter included a small picture of the two of you from your first date years ago, taken by Polly on the front steps of the old house on Watery Lane. The two of you young and full of life before the war.
“Y/N, you know he said in the letter he was trying to make up for the time spent away from you. I’m just helping him out. I wouldn’t want to disappoint my heathen of a nephew.” She said, slowing her steps as you thought about how you’d gotten to be behind a blindfold.
Polly had whisked you away per Thomas’ request that was unbeknownst to you. Telling her to take you out for an early lunch as a treat for not seeing you enough recently, giving her a few extra shillings to put towards a nice outfit for later.
You being a lover of anything remotely of shopping, perked up at the request, and so you couldn’t turn it down. Not when you had free reign of the shops with just the mention of the Shelby name.
Although, living a life of crime, or more-so watching the others that you’d grown to love, live a life of crime wasn’t always easy. Seeing as you’ve had your fair share of late nights wondering when he’d be home, dealing with constant surveillance due to threats, or deciding whether or not to sew a wound up or have a doctor give it a go.
But this was one of the perks, albeit a rare one as he wasn’t the most romantic of the Shelby men. Most times he’d send you flowers or would take you out on the town when his schedule would allow it, even if it didn’t fall quite on a day worth celebrating, but you applauded his efforts anyway as he was a busy man with a million things going on in his head.
At times, this would put strain on the both of you. You sometimes wishing to turn his brain off, like a light switch. Just so he could focus on you and your relationship for more than 5 minutes. But deep down you knew he tried his best given what he’s been through. Doing everything he had to do to make sure you were safe, even if it meant going weeks without you like recently. But now was his time to make up for it, and little did you know how great of a length he’d gone to make that happen.
Polly slowed her steps as you felt someone near you, the familiar smell of his cologne filling your nose as he undid the blindfold. Your eyes soon adjusting to the sunlight that was just starting to fade into the evening sky.
Thomas’ eyes were happier than you’d seen in weeks. And if you were honest it was a little unsettling at first, at least internally. You’d grown accustomed to his steely gaze but he’d always reserved a softer glance just for you. But this one was...different. There was more love there than before. More depth.
As you tore your eyes away from his with a smile, you quickly looked around at the set-up he had going.
There was a vardo sitting nearby, the one he’d shown you years ago where you’d make out until sunset until one of his parent would come looking for him. And there were two chairs and a makeshift table, with torches around it lighting the area. It was nothing compared to the lavish living you were accustomed to now, but it felt more like him. More at home in a way. Especially with the beautiful lake in the distance that matched the blue of his eyes. The color of them pulling you in like a riptide as he pulled your attention back to him with a light stroke of your cheek.
“Where’d you go just now?” He asked, seeing you have that look once before after he took you to London the night before a mission, seeing some of the city that you’d never had the privilege of being to until then.
“Paradise...I mean look love, it’s beautiful! How’d you put all this together? Never knew you had it in ya.” You said jokingly, wrapping your arms around his waist as he pulled you close, his lips finding yours in an instant.
“I may have stayed here and planned it out with the lads...” he said, referring to his brothers and trusted friend Johnny Dogs.
“Well I think it’s lovely. But I do have to ask...what’s all this for?” You asked, his facial expression changing slightly as he put his hand in his pocket.
“I wanted to surprise you since I’ve been away so long. Also, it got me thinking about something.” He said, watching Polly walk off in the distance, giving you two the privacy you needed.
“You’re always thinking Tommy, I need specifics.” You said with a smirk.
“I was thinking about the future. Our future.” He said, holding your left hand in his as he got down on one knee, the sunset reflecting on his eyes as he gazed up at you.
Your heart raced as he let go to open the small box, a large diamond ring sticking out of the velvet casing.
“Will you marry me, Y/N?” He asked, a cautiously hopeful look on his face as you smiled through your tears. Your hand shaking as you held it out to him.
“Yes!” You said aloud, wiping the tears from your cheeks as he slipped the ring on your finger and wrapped you in a long, protective hug.
For one day, it definitely was the most eventful of them, and you wouldn’t trade any of it for the world, even if you’d gotten offered millions to leave the family, you knew in your heart you couldn’t. It was where you belonged, and now the two of you looked forward to your adventure in marriage. Knowing the title of becoming a Shelby was sure to come with some perks.

I’ll Follow You Into The Dark:
Tumblr media
Masterlist | Rules | Peaky Prompts
Trigger Warnings: ANGST, Explosions, Mentions of Blood, Gore etc, and some Fluff.
*Based on Fluff Prompt #1 from my Peaky Prompts list.*
Word Count: 1,695
Characters: Thomas Shelby x Reader
Requested: Yes
Requested by: Anon, you can find it here.
Summary: When Thomas and the rest of the blinders head towards a trap, Y/N has to decide if they’ll stay behind or go with them. Knowing that they vowed to be with him until death.
Tumblr media
“If heaven and hell decide That they both are satisfied Illuminate the no's on their vacancy signs If there's no one beside you When your soul embarks Then I'll follow you into the dark”
- Death Cab for Cutie
The sound of explosions rang faintly in the distance as you held your hands over your ears, the impact dulling your hearing as a sharp ringing filled them.
“Tom!” You yelled into the void, hoping to hear him through the chaos.
Silence.
Your heart pounded in your chest as you crawled through the sharp debris, looking for the bomb that was set off nearby, hoping to find the remnants of the man who taunted your family and made the fatal mistake of stepping in his own trap. His evil smirk etching it’s way into your memory as he walked in the lavish room ever-so carefully. Thinking he’d be able to avoid the perilous wires near his foot as you spotted them before he did, your warning causing him to take his final step. Your hands soon scraping through the chunks of drywall and broken glass as the dust and smoke burned your eyes and lungs, your mind racing with finding the man whom you’d followed that day into the trenches, so-to-speak.
Every Peaky Blinders mission for Thomas was like a battle, his mind always set on planning attacks to escape the scraping sound of the shovels against the hot, dark tunnels. But as always, no matter how many times he tried to stay one step ahead of his rivals, someone always got in the way.
It started out as an ordinary day, Thomas calling a meeting and giving orders to head to the latest location on his mental hit-list. The name making your heart sink as you realized he was walking into a trap. The infamous, cunning gang leader you’d came to share a bed with was going to waltz right into what he swore he never would.
“Any questions?” He asked, his eyes lingering on yours as he blew out a puff of smoke.
Everyone nodded along except you, knowing the people they were going after were just as dangerous. That week, the rival gang had crossed the line, threatening and taunting the Shelby family with letters and fake explosives just to remind them of “who really ran the town.” One of them said in a tense phone call to Thomas, setting off the chain of events leading up to now.
The decision to leave your clerical duties was a rash one. Nervously following your husbands car to their destination. Once there, you parked a ways back, behind a slew of trees. Your steps light against the cobblestones as you got closer to them, knowing in your heart you had to warn him, even if it was the last thing you’d say to the man you loved.
“Tommy! Wait!” You said loudly, your heart racing from the effort it took to catch up to him and his brothers.
“Y/N...you need to go back to the shop, it’s not safe. Go.” He said lowly, not wanting to call attention to you all.
“I came here to warn you Tom. Remember when you sent me to sit in on their meeting at the pub? They mentioned a trap. I-I didn’t think much of it then, but after the threats...Tom I know it’s a trap. If you go in there now you won’t make it out.” You said as tears formed in your eyes, your nerves getting to you as you struggled to speak.
“I have to, love. Now go.” He said, kissing you quickly.
“No. I’m going with you.” You said defiantly, pulling out the handgun he gave you, checking to make sure it was fully loaded.
He had a pained look on his face as he nodded, knowing he wasn’t going to be able to change your mind. You’d been a good shot in the past, but that didn’t exactly mean much when explosives were concerned.
You all had barely made it through the first floor of the large manor before the first one went off. Thomas shoving you to the ground, shielding you from the small debris falling through the air. As the haze cleared, you sat up, feeling Thomas pull you to the nearest wall, yelling orders at his brothers before checking his bullets.
“Keep your eyes peeled for the wires yeah? Stay behind me.” He said, opening the door as the dust covered space cleared. You walked closely behind, quietly looking at the ground for any signs of the deadly wires as you heard yelling upstairs. Arthur was shouting amongst gunfire, and John sounded like he was scrapping with one of the men they were after.
Thomas roughly took your hand, leading you up the stairs in a sideways motion, backs towards the wall, checking around the corner with a quick glance before a bullet whizzed past your head. A scream caught in your throat as you realized how close you were to the darkness of death itself. Thomas soon returned fire, the screams of the man he hit echoing through the stone hallway that led to his brothers.
Upon arrival, you flanked your husband, pointing your gun at the man holding John down as Thomas shot the other.
“Get off of him!” You yelled, catching the mans attention enough to where John could get a punch in. The man hurling himself angrily at you soon enough until you shakily shot him. The man falling limp to the ground within seconds. Your hands shook as you took in the sight, trying to distract yourself from the blood by looking at the ground for more wires.
Almost as soon as you’d said that though, the man who’d sent you all the taunting letters came in with a menacing smirk, stepping in a weird way so as not to disturb the floor. But your eyes saw the colored wires poking out ever so slightly, your brain wondering how in the hell you all avoided it earlier.
“Everybody down!” You yelled, causing the man to misstep, setting it off. The wind soon knocked out of you as the blast hurled everyone to the ground. The ceiling caving in in various places as well as part of the floor below you.
You felt yourself relax as you breathed in the smoke, feeling as though you were going to pass out from the ordeal. The sharp pain of the glass shards stuck in your now shredded coat the only thing keeping you clinging to consciousness. As you closed your eyes, you pictured what life would be like if he’d never had the family business thrust upon him after the war. How he’d have probably married you sooner and how you’d probably be chasing little kids around by now in a big house on the outskirts of town. But now, reality set in as Arthur’s shouts came through the muddled noise, Johns following not too far behind as they ran towards you, grabbing you up in the knick of time. The once lavish building crumbling before your eyes as you knew the one you loved was most likely gone.
“Tom!” You called out, hands still scraping through the rubble of the first floor as Arthur and John dug through the rest of the larger stuff. Tears visibly splattering on the dust covered floor, the tiles smashed beyond repair.
Your heart ached knowing you’d never find him as you scraped through the debris, your hearing slowly coming back and eyes watering as you continued on, stopping once a hand reached out from one of the corners.
“Y/N.....” Thomas said weakly, his arm badly cut and his face busted up as he spat up blood, most likely from his busted lip or the jagged stone poking him in the chest. It most definitely broke a few ribs, causing him too much pain to move as he thought about what to do, even though he couldn’t do much of anything at the moment.
It seemed like he waited longer now, than he did for the calvary in France, for his brothers to make it to where he was. Helping him up despite his loud groans of pain.
You watched in horror as they drove him to the hospital, his face paling as you followed behind their car, hoping that neither heaven nor hell would take him, even though he belonged to the latter. Hoping that he would stay here, for you. For his family.
Hours had slowly passed until you’d gotten word he was going to make it, the doctors saying he was damn well close to dying by the time they’d got him in surgery.
“There you are love.” He said weakly, the meds doing his head in as he saw you walk in carrying his beloved cigarettes and his bloodstained coat. Your own body covered in various bandages as you sat next to his bed.
“I thought you were dead.” You said, tears rolling down your cheeks as he cupped your face with his hand. A small, pained laugh escaping his lips.
“You can’t get rid of me that easily, Y/N.” He said. Knowing he might as well have nine lives with as close he’s been to death over the years.
“I know...” you said shortly, holding his bruised hand in yours that were bandaged up.
“But...please promise me...that next time you’ll listen to me. At least when I know it’s a trap alright?” You asked, concern lacing your every feature as you felt him pull your hand to his lips, kissing the top of it gently.
“I will, but promise me something as well.” He said.
“What?” You asked.
“Promise me you won’t follow me next time. You shouldn’t have to risk your life for me.” He said, a serious look in his tired, blood-shot eyes.
“I can’t promise that Tommy. I’ll follow you into the dark not matter what. I fucking vowed to you know.” You said, pointing at the diamond on your ring finger.
“Aye, but you’re my partner. Can’t have you dying too.” He said.
“That is true, but what is love without sacrifice?” You said, giving him a light kiss as he pulled you close despite his injuries. Wanting to feel you beside him, to know that he wasn’t stuck in the rubble anymore, to know that he had you, and you had him.

Little White Lies:
Tumblr media
Masterlist | Rules | Peaky Prompts
Trigger Warnings: Angst, Dysfunctional Family, Unsupportive/Jealous Family Members, Fighting, Swearing, Fluff, etc.
Word Count: 4,266
Characters: Thomas Shelby x Female!Reader
Requested: Yes
Requested by: Anon, you can find it here. (this was such a fun request, I hope I did it justice lol)
Summary: From dealing with unsupportive and envious family members, to being caught in a lie, Y/N is forced to face her family and confront her feelings about her boss, all thanks to a wedding invitation.
Tumblr media
“What do you mean you’re working as a secretary? I put in a perfectly good recommendation for you last month at the hospital!” Y/N’s father yelled as she made her way into the living room of her parents house. The old walls poorly concealing their loud arguing.
“Did you stop and think about how maybe I don’t want to follow in you and Margaret’s footsteps? I thought you’d at least be happy I’ve found something I like! But no, it’s not good enough for you aye? Nothing I do ever is...” Y/N yelled back, crossing her arms over her chest.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” He asked, his eyes boring into hers.
“Let’s face it, you and mum both like Margaret better because she has a “respectable job” as a doctor just like you. You pushed her off to the best schools, and only approve of her boyfriend because he’s a classy businessman.” She said lighting a cigarette.
“See? You’re already picking up bad habits Y/N. We just want the best for you.” Her mother said, plucking the cigarette out of her fingers and throwing it into the fireplace as her father looked to the ground with his arms folded.
“A secretary job is respectable. I keep the company from crashing down half the time.” She said.
“And what company is that? One where they shove you in a dark room to type papers all day?” Her mother scoffed back.
“Shelby Company Limited. It’s quite nice actually.” She said with a smirk.
“Isn’t that where the Peaky Blinders run the streets? I bet you’re dating one of them for christ’s sake!” Her father yelled, turning away from his daughter in disgust.
“What if I am?” She asked, balling her hands into fists at her sides.
“Who is it? I’ll get you transferred out in no time. No daughter of mine is working as a damn secretary in fucking Small Heath.” He said.
“Thomas Shelby.” She said, his name escaping her lips before she could think about what she’d done.
Her father tensed up at his name. His face paling in complexion as he sat down, his wife eyeing him with concern.
“The Thomas Shelby?” He asked, more quietly than before as if he was being watched.
“Mhmm. What is there a problem?” She asked, folding her arms over her chest.
“No...are you sure it’s him? He practically owns half of Birmingham. Although his reputation is not something I’m fond of...I guess if you legally work for him that’s...respectable.” He said, his tone softer and more accepting than earlier.
“Right, so now that I’m dating an infamous businessman, I’m more respectable as a secretary? Why the sudden change? I’m doing quite well on my own with this job.” She said as she observed his rigid body language. He hesitated to speak, remembering when the two older Shelby’s came in half-alive after being shot up by a rival gang.
“Well, given his reputation and my practice, I may have had a few run-ins with him at the hospital. It’s common knowledge not to get in their way but I did. I made him and his bastard of an older brother stay a week to heal after saving their asses.” He said, an annoyed look on his face.
“He threatened your father Y/N. We couldn’t even tell the coppers. But...please don’t get too proud over your position there darling. Your words could come back to you and he could find someone else by sundown.” Her mother said with a nice tone, trying but failing to take the sting out of her words.
She’d always been jealous it seemed. Seeing her daughters getting to achieve things that she couldn’t. Being led to a life of homemaking and hosting parties for her wealthy doctor of a husband. They never amassed the wealth like the Shelby family had, but they were able to afford a decent sized house in London, if that was any indication of her family’s status.
After a long, tense silence, she decided to leave. Saying a quick and frustrated goodbye to her parents before heading back to Small Heath. Her heart racing at the realization that she just openly told her parents she was dating her boss. It wouldn’t be as much of a problem if it were true, but alas it was nothing but a white lie. She had always been quiet on the subject despite them getting along well. Polly could see a connection, which she’d mentioned to her over tea various times, but she always shrugged it off. And now she knew it was only a matter of time before she had to tell him the truth.
As a few weeks passed, she continued with her clerical duties. Filing papers and reporting things to Thomas as usual. Until she got a call from home once again, requesting her presence immediately.
Tumblr media
“Why do you all need me here anyway? I could be working right now.” Y/N said, impatiently tapping her foot on the lavish rug lining the hardwood floors of the living room.
“We wanted to give you this.” Her father said, flicking an envelope at her that she barely had time to catch.
The envelope was a light green color - her older sister Margaret’s favorite - with an intricately written invitation inside.
“Thomas Shelby and Y/N Y/L/N,
We cordially invite you to attend the union of Matthew Reynolds and Margaret Y/L/N. Formal attire will be expected at both the ceremony and reception.”
Her eyes grew wide at the invitation as she realized her parents must’ve told her sister about Thomas. Knowing nothing she did was ever kept private, unfortunately. But in that moment she knew she messed up, thinking about how she’d have to tell them it was all a lie. That she wasn’t dating the infamous gang leader. A feeling of panic and embarrassment washed over her as she realized the gravity of the situation.
“Are you alright? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” Her mother said.
“Y-yeah. Wasn’t expecting Margaret to invite me, let alone um...Thomas to her wedding. Are you all attending?” She asked nervously.
“Well of course! We can’t miss our best daughters wedding day.” Her mother said, not knowing how her words cut into Y/N.
“You’re loved as well. Your mother didn’t mean that. No one would dare disrespect a woman associated with Thomas Shelby. Right dear?” He said, hastily reassuring his daughter and looking at his wife with a raised eyebrow.
“Oh darling I didn’t mean it like that. We love both of you. I’m sorry...I’ll do better I promise.” She said giving her daughter a light hug.
“Please do. I’ll see you at the wedding.” Y/N said harshly, leaving the house in a hurry as she clutched the green envelope in her hand.
A week had passed since she’d set the invitation on her desk at work. The paper easily seen from anyone near her desk as not many envelopes were that color. It cost too much to make them given the financial troubles of the past few years, but of course her sister could afford it.
It was midnight though when Thomas walked by her desk out of habit, the lamp still on while Y/N had left for the night. The faint yellow glow illuminating the envelope as he raised an eyebrow at it. He quickly picked it up, reading the intricate handwriting on the letter inside as he noticed his name next to hers.
Tumblr media
The next morning, Y/N walked to her desk to see that the invitation was missing. Her stomach doing flips as she wondered where it had gone.
“Y/N, can I see you in my office?” Thomas said as he leaned against the doorframe, his tailored suit catching her off-guard for a moment as she glanced at the man her heart ached after. Polly giving her a questionable glance and a small, knowing smirk as she walked reluctantly into his office.
He knew. He knew about the letter and she was dumb enough to leave it there last night. Dumb enough to lie to her parents. Dumb enough to harbor any feelings for the man who certainly wouldn’t admit any himself.
“Y/N...” He said, his low voice ripping her from her racing thoughts as she stood by the door.
“Y-yeah sorry. Busy morning. What do you need Tommy?” She asked, nervously fiddling with her hands.
“I need to discuss something with you. Please sit.” He said, walking over to his plethora of whiskey glasses and filling two of them with the brown liquid he loved so much. If anything, he’d probably marry a bottle of whiskey if he could.
“What is it you want to discuss?” Y/N asked, sipping from her glass as it burned its way down her throat.
“I found this on your desk. I know it wasn’t my business to go taking things, but I couldn’t help but notice my name was mentioned with yours...so now...it is my business.” He said, observing how she grew uncomfortable under his gaze, drinking more as she shifted in her seat.
“It’s a long story.” She said blankly while setting the glass down, wanting to flee out the door never to come back.
“And for once I have the time.” He said leaning backing in his chair and lighting one of his many cigarettes.
Y/N sighed and relaxed back into her seat, her heart skipping a beat as she thought of the best way to explain it to him.
“Alright...so my family is a bit backwards as you know. And happen to just adore my older sister Margaret. They funded her schooling, attended her graduations and awards ceremonies, and they uh...like that she’s dating - I mean - engaged to a businessman now. He’s what they consider successful.”
“Successful aye? What...they don’t think some razor-gang from Birmingham is successful?” He asked.
“No.” She answered, looking out the window as she continued.
“Anyway, when I visited them, they started saying things about the company and how my job wasn’t respectable. I tried to shut them down but um, my father accused me of dating one of ya, like it was a disgrace to the family. So I panicked and said that I wasn’t dating just any of them, I was dating you.” She said, looking down at the nearly empty glass in her trembling hands.
“What’d he say to that aye?” He asked, a small smirk playing on his usually stoic face.
“Oh his whole demeanor changed. Looked like he’d seen a ghost. He um...said he knew of you. Said he treated you and Arthur for a week after a bad night on the job.” She said, nervous he’d go after her father.
“Aye I remember him. A bit mouthy that one.” He said.
“You threatened him though. Why?” She asked, her nervousness turning to a bit of anger at the thought of him harming her parents, even if they weren’t the best.
“They wanted to report it to the coppers. And as you know now, we don’t deal too kindly with snitches. So I had to threaten him. To keep the peace.” He said, blowing a cloud of smoke towards her.
“I wouldn’t say peace. Fear would be a better word.” She said, sipping the last of her whiskey.
“It’s worked out for me so far.” He said.
“Yes it has Tommy...but I have one question.” She said.
“Mhmm?”
“Are you wanting to go to this bullshit wedding or not?” She asked bluntly, hoping her interrogation would be over soon.
“That depends. Are you going? You don’t seem too fond of your family.” He said.
“I’m only going out of love.” She said.
“Well in that case, I am too.” He said, jotting down the address to the ceremony on his calendar with a star on the day, his heart racing despite his cold exterior. He’d harbored feelings for her too, and Polly could see it, often questioning him when Y/N would leave for the night, but he always blew her off due to peaky business.
“Wait...you actually want to go to such a horrid thing...with me?” She asked.
“And pass up a date with my favorite secretary? Wouldn’t dream of it.” He said, a small smirk hinting at his lips which seemed almost out-of-place.
“Date? Are you sure this isn’t some small business deal? You aren’t just agreeing for money or to pity me?” She asked.
“No Y/N...I’m agreeing because I like you. Always have...just never had the time to tell you till now. Now go back to your work before Polly gets even more suspicious.” He said, admitting his feelings like it was nothing as she stood there dumbfounded.
“R-right.” She said sheepishly as she made her way back to her desk, a small smile on her face as Polly watched her. Knowing something had finally gone down between them.

A week into their newfound relationship, the day had finally come and Thomas escorted her inside the wedding chapel, her black dress complimenting his suit nicely. Her mother scoffing as she sat near her, wondering why the hell she’d wear a black dress to a wedding.
“You know black is for funerals...didn’t I teach you anything?” She asked quietly to where only Y/N could hear.
“I’m just marking the death of any peace that was left between this family. I know you both will start hounding me with questions in no time now that Margaret’s spoken for.” She said quietly, staring into her mother’s cold eyes. There’s always been a tension between them, but it seemed even a joyous occasion such as this couldn’t cut it.
“You alright love?” He asked, holding her hand in his as she stared blankly at the alter, waiting for the ceremony to start.
“It’s just my mother. She can’t put aside our differences for one fucking day.” She said quietly. Her mother leaning over to insert herself into the conversation.
“It’s nice meeting you Mr. Shelby. You’re more than welcome to sit with us at the reception.” Her mother said as she watched her daughter talk to the infamous blinder.
“Thank you Mrs. Y/L/N, we’d love to. Right Y/N?” He asked, squeezing her hand reassuringly.
“Love is one word for it I suppose.” She said, her jaw tensing as she saw her father approaching their seats.
“Glad to see you again Mr. Shelby, given this time it’s under better circumstances.” He said, shaking his hand firmly.
“Indeed it is Mr. Y/L/N.” He said, pulling a cigarette out of his pocket and sticking it between his lips.
Her father soon resigned himself from the tense situation by sitting near his wife, who was eyeing the dashing blinder who smoked where he pleased.
“Can you believe she’s dating him? They look like they’ve only just started.” She whispered to her husband.
“If I have to accept him for professional reasons, you can accept him for our daughter. Enough with the snide remarks. Our lives might as well be at stake if he were to hear us...his threat still stands.” He said, knowing that his youngest daughter and her mother always had a tense relationship since her birth. It wasn’t particularly successful, only saving them in the knick of time from complications. Little did he know he was more so the heart of the family, albeit a dysfunctional one.
“They’re talking about me I know it.” Y/N said, fidgeting with her hands as they waited for the ceremony to begin. Margaret taking more than her sweet time getting ready.
“Let them talk then. It can only hurt you if you let it.” He said.
“Now, she better be dressed to the nines because this is the longest I’ve ever waited for a wedding ceremony.” He added, seeing a smirk forming on her face.
“Oh just you wait.” She said jokingly. The music catching everyone’s attention as they all looked on, and surely enough she was dressed to the nines, the whole tailoring industry probably coming together to complete the lavish gown.
“What is this the royal fucking wedding?” She asked, hearing him chuckle quietly under his breath.
As Margaret neared the altar with her father handing her off with a kiss on the cheek, she took a look at her fiancé and then turned toward Y/N, giving her a small smirk that made her stomach churn.
“What was that for?” Thomas whispered quietly, noticing the interaction.
“She’s rubbing salt in an old wound. She’s as bad as my mother.” She said, flicking her off silently. Thomas quickly placed his hand over hers to stop her from escalating the already tense situation. Her mother giving her a scolding look that she ignored, her blood boiling with the fact she was flaunting her status in front of her.
It seemed like forever before the vows ended, the tired crowd clapping and dispersing after the couple ran happily out the door of the church and to the nearby reception. With Y/N and Thomas lagging behind, not wanting to enter the horrendous venue.
“We can leave the reception early if you’d like. Maybe go somewhere more entertaining.” He suggested as they watched the couple parade around the room. Her sister quickly bringing her husband over to where they were standing.
“Y/N, love I’m happy you made it! We were scared you weren’t going to show.” She said giving her younger sister a careful hug as not to disturb her dress.
“Why wouldn’t I? You’re my sister...I can’t exactly avoid you forever.” She said a small smile on her lips.
“You never told me you snagged such a......man. Where did you two meet?” She asked, shaking Thomas’ hand as her husband did the same. Margaret wary of the cold stare he gave her and Matthew.
“At work.” Y/N said shortly, not appreciating her attitude.
“Look at that, my baby sister finally has a job. What is it? A teacher? a factory worker? a nurse perhaps?” Margaret asked.
“A secretary.” Y/N said, staring the bride down the best she could hoping her gaze could silence her before she made a show of it all.
“A secretary? Hmm. Well that’s good I guess. Just be careful though, those secretaries have to sleep their way to the top you know.” She said. Y/N’s face burning as she turned away from Thomas, wanting to run out and never look back.
Thomas cleared his throat and put his hand on the small of her back as she tensed her jaw, reluctantly turning back to her snake of a sister.
“How would you know? Is that how you got to your position?” She snapped back, the anger rising in her chest. She wished she could have captured her sisters expression in a photograph, her words finally cutting into her like she wanted.
“I assure you she isn’t doing anything of the sort. In fact, she’s an integral part of the company already. But if I were you I wouldn’t say too much else.” Thomas said, a dark tone to his voice as he kept a level head between the sibling rivalry that was happening by the second.
“Oh and who are you to threaten me? What’s this company you speak of? My parents never mentioned it.” She said, her husband whispering in her ear that they had to go. The poor man hated the situation just as much as Y/N.
“That was probably to protect you Margaret. You see...you’ve always been a bit reckless with new information. So I doubt you knew what father got himself into.” Y/N said.
“What are you talking about?” She asked, grabbing a glass of expensive champagne as the server walked by.
“He got in my way...and no one gets in Thomas Shelby’s way. It cost me some of my men. So, like I said, if I were you...I wouldn’t say much else.” He threatened again, her fiancé swallowing hard as he led his flustered wife away to mingle with the other guests.
“Why can’t you both get along?” Her father asked, walking over to the pair.
“I’ve done my part with both her and mum. But...I’m not staying where I’m not valued. I love you all but, we have to go. Send Margaret and Matthew our....warmest regards, yeah?” She asked taking Thomas’ hand and leading him out the door. Her father stood there with a tense look on his face, knowing his family had gotten themselves on bad terms with the Shelby’s once again.
With frantic footsteps she walked to the car, tears flooding down her face as she got in herself, not bothering to wait for him to open the door.
“You didn’t have to stick up for me, but thank you.” She said wiping her tears away as he started the car.
“Yeah.” He said, lighting a cigarette before taking off. He wasn’t much for accepting thanks, at least since the war.
“Are they like that all time?” He asked after a long pause.
“Mhmm. Now you see why I don’t see them unless I have to. They just remind me of everything I’m not.” She said, looking out the window at the evening sky.
“That I do. I’ll be sending them something later, don’t worry.” He said.
“What do you mean?” She asked, her stomach dropping as she pictured him killing her family.
“You’re not going to kill them are you?” She asked.
“No...they’re not worth my time. At least not now anyway. And besides...I wouldn’t want to hurt you more than they already have.” He said, blowing a cloud of smoke from his lips.
“Tommy look, I know my father got in your way on a mission and I know he made you stay longer than you wanted to...but you can’t blame him for doing his job. He was trying to help. He may not be the best, although he’s far nicer than my mother and sister, so if anything, please spare him at least. That’s all I ask.” She said.
“Like I said, they’re not worth my time now, love. If they continue bashing you and my family for how we do business I’ll let you know first alright? But I can’t let them off without a warning, so I’ll send them a letter alright?” He said.
“Well it better be good then. That’s the last I want to hear of this feud. I can deliver it to them if it will help...to make a point at least.” She said.
“Take this then, it won’t be good.” He said giving her a handgun from his jacket.
“I’m not shooting my family Tommy!” She said loudly as they approached the Garrison.
“It’s not for them. It’s for you. They’re not the nicest people and I want you safe. Especially since you work for us now. If they hurt one of us they hurt all of us alright? I know that’s not what you want to hear but it’s how this business works. Now...let’s go have some fun aye.” He said, helping her out of the car and into the bar that was teeming with people from the shop.
“Oi! How’d the wedding go? You’re both home early.” Arthur asked, handing them both a glass of whiskey.
“Terrible. Tommy’s writing a letter tomorrow to put them on their toes.” She said.
“Did they say summin’ about ya?” He asked.
“Yes...and about the company.” Thomas added.
“I thought we told him last time that we’d blind him.” Arthur said, an angry look in his eyes.
“Aye we did. But that didn’t account for her mother and sister. They have a way with words don’t they love?” Thomas asked.
“Mhmm. I’m delivering it, maybe then they’ll take what they say more seriously next time.” She said.
“We can only hope.” Thomas said, snaking an arm around her waist as they spent the rest of the night at the Garrison before going to their respected homes, too worried about the mission to do anything else.
Tumblr media
The next week, Thomas signed the end of the letter, his hand cramping from the amount of things he’d written. Wanting to make sure his threat came off clear as day.
“Here Tommy, put this in with it.” Y/N said, handing him a lone razor blade, making him raise an eyebrow.
“Just in case they want to make anymore remarks, they can do us a favor and blind themselves. Like you said, they’re not worth your time now.” She said with a small smirk.
He took a sip of his whiskey and pointed to her with a grin, ushering her to come over to him.
“I like how you think.” He said, pulling her close and kissing her lips ever so lightly. The feeling between them almost electric as they departed.
“I’ll go take care of this, you go on with your business.” She said, as he handed her the letter.
“You know how to shoot?” He asked.
“Mhmm. Been practicing with John.” She said with a smirk.
“Alright, love you.” He said, as he caught himself muttering those words out sooner than he wanted to. But the truth was he couldn’t stand to see her go, not without knowing she was safe.
She stood there for a moment, looking at him as a smile spread across her face.
“I love you too.” She said before walking out the door to drive to the dreaded house she grew up in. Hoping this letter would keep them at bay for once in her life. Knowing her only chance at freedom from her family’s binds were through the doors of the shop and in the arms of the man she loved.

The smell of roses filled the room as Thomas walked in, the soft petals strewn over the shop floors as the sun shined brightly through the dusty windows, giving an almost pink hue to the room.
As Thomas sat down in his office, the smell only grew stronger as he looked around, opening up every drawer to see them all stuffed with bouquets of roses. He frantically picked them out, throwing them on the ground harshly as the thorns pricked at his fingers, small traces of blood coming through the skin with the contact. As he threw them in the bin he noticed Y/N standing there, her face fixed in a permanent smile as she clutched what seemed to be a hundred roses, all wilting and wet. Her eyes were tired and her clothes were soaking as she stood there, the usual bustling around the shop becoming eerily silent as she stepped into the room, his brothers all following as they carried more wilted roses in their arms.
“Take these. Now.” She said in a menacing tone as she got closer, the rest of the blinders advancing towards him as he backed up against a bookshelf. His eyes fixed on Y/N as she stalked towards him. His breathing quickened as he reached out to take them from her, a piercing scream rang from the doorway as he did so. Polly was holding another bouquet in the doorway, her eyes boring into his as she stood there.
He looked around to see everyone’s faces plastered with wicked smiles as they watched him, all silent as the room grew from a pink hue to red, with only another piercing scream coming from Polly as the roses Y/N was holding plunged their way stem-first into his heart.
With a gasp, Thomas awoke. The air in the room seeming thick as he looked around the large bedroom. The sound of birds chirping and Charlie playing down the hall with the nanny as he got a grasp on his surroundings.
Once composed, he got ready, knowing he had to be at the shop soon. No matter how jarring a nightmare he had, the business never stopped, and so he had to continue even through the madness.
It had been a week since the first bouquet of red roses arrived at the shop, the mailman smiling as he placed it on Y/N’s desk near Thomas’ office.
“Oh these are lovely! Thank you!” She said, dismissing him to go about his deliveries. Polly coming over as curious as a cat.
“Who’s the admirer Y/N?” She asked, smelling one of the roses.
“Oh uh...well...it doesn’t say. There’s no note.” She said, fiddling with the flowers in search of one.
“Interesting. Well enjoy love. This is the most color the shop has seen since Christmas.” She said.
“Thanks Pol, I will.” She said, a genuine smile on her face as she placed them on the corner of her desk.
As the week went on though, the flowers became a regular occurrence. By Friday she’d had 5 bouquets lined up, almost to where she was hidden behind them.
“Who’s the lucky lad aye?” Thomas asked as he walked by, only taking a real interest after the third day the bouquet’s came, forever being oblivious to things that weren’t work related.
“I was going to ask you Tommy. I haven’t the slightest clue. It’s strange now though. I’ll have a whole rose garden by next week it seems.” She said with a light laugh that made Tommy’s heart do flips. She carefully cleared them off her desk to where they sat along the floor, hoping that would be the end of them.
“I’ll decorate the office with them, no use having them all here.” She said, grabbing two vases and placing one on Polly and Esme’s desks.
“Have fun with that. Just leave them out of my office though, love.” He said.
“No problem.” She said, retrieving the other two and placing them on Lizzie and Johns desks.
After the weekend flew by, Y/N hesitantly opened the door to the shop early that Monday morning to find another bouquet placed on her desk, a slight smile appearing on her face as she looked around the room.
“Christ. The poor lads in love.” Polly said as she walked in, seeing the bouquets placed on almost everyone’s desks.
“I still don’t know who it is though. Not a fucking clue Pol.” She said with a sigh.
“I’ll keep my eyes peeled this week. You do the same.” Polly said as she sat down, returning to the work she’d left from the week prior.
“Will do.” Y/N said, starting on her own paper work.
Thomas smirked as he walked in past her desk, Y/N not noticing as he went straight to his office. His suspicions started to grow with each passing day, eventually leading to the nightmare that he’d had later that week.
Thomas nervously went into his office later that Friday. It had been a week since the first onslaught of them, with no man in sight besides the delivery man. But something inside him made him feel something was off. The nightmare only fueling his anxiety as he thought about it.
“Pol, can I have a word?” He said from his doorway, his slender frame leaning out just so she could see him.
Polly nodded and came in, her head swimming with questions.
“This has to stop.” He said sitting at his desk, running a hand through his hair.
“What does Tom?” She asked.
“The roses. I can’t tell if someone’s trying to send me a message or a threat or what. Whoever it is they know where we are and what we do. And they somehow know when she’ll be in the office.” He said, his hatred for uncertainty shining through.
“I don’t think anyone’s after you or the company Tommy. If anything someone’s after her...not in a bad way though.” She said.
“What do you know about roses in dreams?” He asked, lighting a cigarette.
“You’ll have to be more specific.” She said, sighing as she got comfortable in one of the armchairs in the room.
“I had a nightmare...last night... where you were screaming, and everyone was holding wilted fucking roses and...Y/N stabbed me in the heart with them.” He said, the memory of it causing his brows to furrow.
“Well, in general roses are for affection, but if she stabbed you with them, that’s hard to say. But if they’re wilted...that could be a relationship ending...although I’m not sure one has even begun. If I were you I wouldn’t look into it too much.” She said, trying to console him.
“Why not?” He asked.
“It’ll only stress you out more. You don’t need that on you with everyone going on already. If she likes the person, I’m sure she’ll return the favor. Those roses probably weren’t cheap in the first place.” She said.
“Alright, well until then can you help get a family meeting together? I’m trying to see if we can narrow down who’s sending them. I don’t like that they know our business and hers.” He said.
“Okay. May I ask one thing?” She said, looking into her nephews eyes. She’s seen the look only a few times before.
“Are you jealous of this person? Perhaps the roses were for her not reciprocating your feelings.” She said.
Thomas chuckled as he took a drag from his cigarette, his eyes cutting away from Polly’s to stare out the window.
“If I was I would’ve found the lad wouldn’t I? I can’t control who she likes or who likes her.” He said.
“Well, you’re pretty involved for someone who isn’t jealous. I’ll see what I can do, but until then keep your eyes peeled. I’ve told Y/N to do the same.” She said.
“Alright.” He said, watching her leave as he blew out a puff of smoke. The dream still running circles through his mind.
Later that night Polly let everyone go early as she told Arthur and John of the family meeting, the other workers all filing out, including Y/N.
“Hey Y/N...” Thomas said, holding the door for her as she walked out of the shop.
“Yeah?” She asked, the cold air causing her to wrap her coat tightly around her as she stared into his ice-blue eyes.
“The roses haven’t been sent to your house have they?” He asked.
“No. Why?” She asked, clutching one of the smaller more recent bouquets.
“Good. I’m trying to look into who sent them.” He said.
“Oh, thank you. They were uh...sweet the first time ‘round but after two weeks it’s kind of concerning me.” She said, a nervous chuckle escaping her lips as she looked around.
“Me too. I’ll let you know if I find out anything alright?” He asked.
“Okay Tommy. Goodnight.” She said, turning away from him.
“Goodnight.” He said, watching her walk away down the cold streets. Something pained him to see her walking alone, suddenly walking towards her on a whim.
“Y/N wait!” He said loud enough so that she stopped.
“Would you...would you like me to walk you home?” He asked.
Y/N’s face heated up as she looked down, trying to hide it from him.
“Sure.” She said. Her heart racing in her chest as they continued down the narrow walkway.
She’d admired the man from afar for most of her employment, but never had the courage to talk to him more outside of work. He was a busy man and all and she knew he was notorious for nabbing various women, but here she was being walked home by the man who only recently started talking to her more as the hundreds of flowers trickled in.
“I have a peculiar question Tommy...” She said, as they neared her apartment.
“I may have a peculiar answer.” He said, smirking as he looked at her. Her eyes glinting in the setting sun as she turned to him.
“You weren’t the one who sent them were you?” She asked.
As much as he abhorred the thought of a hundred flowers, he wished he would’ve been the one sending them. Loving the way the color of the roses illuminated her skin. The way her smile grew at the sight of them. It was in these two weeks that he realized he should’ve sent them, even if he wasn’t one for flowers, he’d have filled the whole room with them just to see her smile.
With a hurt look in his eyes, he spoke. His answer slipping off his lips as he looked at her.
“No. Unfortunately I’m not one for many flowers. But I would’ve sent one at least. Whoever this was...clearly has me beat.” He said.
“Oh, well, if anything I hope you can find out who it was. Good luck with your search.” She said, unlocking her door.
“Oh and Tommy?” She asked as he turned around, her hair blowing slightly in the cool wind.
“Thank you for walking me back. It was nice to have your company.” She said, giving him a small smile as he nodded and resumed his walk back to the shop. His heart aching and angered at the same time. Someone out there had outdone him, and it was only a matter of time before he found out who.
Back at the shop, everyone gathered around the table as they chatted. Patiently waiting for Thomas and Finn as the sun finally set for the night. With a harsh slam of the door, Finn waltzed in, fingers bandaged as he looked at the roses on everyone’s desks.
“Oi! Where you been brother? Tommy’s called a meeting but hasn’t shown yet. We were wondering if you knew where he was.” Arthur said, causing all eyes to go to the young Shelby.
“Oh uh, I was at the stables. Helping the horses.” He said.
“Did they try to eat your fingers? Look at the bandages on them...” Polly said slowly uncovering them to see small red pricks of dried blood. Her smirk grew wide as she looked at him, his face paling as he realized he’d been caught quite literally red-handed at this point.
“Well aren’t you just a little Cupid!” She said. The others looking at the two like they had ten heads.
“The flowers....Finn sent them.” She said, sitting back proudly in her seat.
“Well well well...Finny boy has a crush aye?” John said slapping his younger brother on the shoulder.
“I’d say he has more than a crush. He’s in love.” Ada said teasingly.
Finn’s face flushed as red as a tomato, his heart racing as he sat down. Embarrassed that he’d picked so many for her.
“Right, so let me take a wild guess. It’s Y/N innit? You know she’s older than you right?” Arthur asked, smiling.
Finn sighed and ran a hand through his tousled hair, the pain from the thorns pricking him finally taking their toll.
“You’d have a promising job as florist brother...if the job with us doesn’t work out.” John said, earning a chuckle from the group.
“Well personally I think it’s cute...But Arthur’s right Finn. She’s much older than you. She didn’t even know who they were from, love.” Ada said.
“I should’ve just kept it to myself. No one would ever go for me anyway.” He said, a sullen tone to his voice. His heart felt like it was stabbed and crushed with the weight of a thousand bricks as he took in the reality of the situation. He’d only liked her from afar, never knowing how to approach her even though she was much older than him. It pained him to know a number held so much weight but it did, and no one could change that.
“Oh Finn...you’ll find someone. I know there’s many a girl your age at the shops down the street. Seems like that’s where they all go to hang out anyways besides the Garrison. I’ll tell Isiah to tag along with ya when I see him tomorrow how about that?” Polly asked, holding his hand.
Finn sighed again, knowing his crush had to end at some point. It’s why they called them crushes after all.
“Yeah...alright. I’ll go down there. I’ll throw those out later.” He said, gesturing to the flowers.
“You know what Finn? One thing ya did right though is you showed Tommy up. He practically had to chase her out the door to see who was sending them. He’s a bit jealous she has such an amazing admirer.” Ada said, a small smile on her face.
“Oh great. Tommy will kill me then aye?” He asked.
“Only one way to find out.” John said, pointing to the front door that swung open.
Thomas walked in, a frustrated look on his face as he neared the family.
“Aye Tommy where were ya?” Arthur asked, trying to hide a smile.
“Walking Y/N home. Speaking of that...I’d like to know if any of you know who’s been sending the fucking flowers? If it’s none of you then it’s some other man trying to drag us into something.” He said, lighting a cigarette as he sat down.
“I uh...I sent them Tom.” Finn said quietly, avoiding his gaze.
“What?” He asked.
“I...I sent the flowers. Bloody stupid of me aye?” He said, laughing at himself to lessen the blow.
“Ah...so...you’re her little admirer then...that’s cute.” He said, his tone low. Finn clutched his fists at his side as he nervously shifted in his seat.
“I’m serious Tom. I was stupid for even laying my eyes on her in the first place. Didn’t know she was older than me by that much.” He said, wanting to run out of the shop and never look back.
“Well, a little brotherly advice Finn. If you’re going to send a girl roses, make sure they’re you’re age and make sure you only send one bouquet alright? 10 were a bit....” Tommy said trailing off.
“Desperate.” John said, Tommy smirking and pointing at him.
“Aye, desperate.” He said, blowing a puff of smoke from his lips.
“So is this meeting over then? Am I free to go? I’d say we solved the fucking case.” Finn said.
“Yes it is. Everyone can go. Except you Finn. I want to talk to ya.” He said.
Finn rolled his eyes and stayed seated as everyone got up to leave. The shop soon turning eerily silent.
“You gonna shoot me or just laugh like all the others?” Finn asked.
“Neither. I would’ve done the same thing at your age.” He said.
“I don’t buy it. You just can’t stand the fact I did something about her before you could, right?” He asked.
Thomas pulled a chair up near him, his blue eyes staring into his.
“You did beat me to it I give you that. I just wouldn’t have sent her a hundred of them.” He said.
“She obviously likes you more though Tommy....I’ve seen the way she looked at ya when the flowers came in. I should’ve known then I guess.” He said, growing done with the conversation. Wanting to desperately run to the comforts of the Garrison.
Thomas sighed as he sat back in his chair, the sadness in his little brothers eyes reminiscent of his own many moons ago.
“Look, brother. I’m not mad alright? I’ve eyed the wrong people before and it hurt almost as much as being stabbed. You’ll find someone though alright? I’ll see to that if need fucking be.” He said.
“I’m just embarrassed I even liked her.” Finn said, fiddling with the bandages on his hands.
“We can’t always help who we like or who we love Finn. But we can always find someone for us. You’ll find her. I promise.” He said.
“You never make promises Tommy.” He said, looking at the floor.
“I only makes ones that I know will be true. With a mug like yours you’ll find someone. I bet tomorrow someone will walk in and you’ll be picking roses for them for the rest of your life.” He said with a small smile.
Finn chuckled as he got up, adjusting his cap.
“So she likes you then?” He asked.
“I think so. I’ll understand if you hate me.” Tommy said, taking a drag from his cigarette.
“Just don’t break her heart. I can see she has one at least.” Finn said.
“I won’t. But I may need help with a bouquet soon.” Tommy said.
Finn smirked and shook his head.
“No. My work is done. That’s up to you now Tommy. Good luck with Y/N though alright? I’ll come by tomorrow and pick all of them up before she comes in. Save myself the embarrassment.” He said.
“I got it brother. Just tell her tomorrow.” He said.
“You mean you won’t?” Finn asked.
“No, that’s your business.” He said.
“Alright.” He said, heading towards the door.
“Where are you going this late Finn?” Tommy asked.
“To the Garrison, I need a drink.” He said.
“Take one of the these fucking roses will ya. Who knows, you may need it.” He said.
Finn plucked one from a vase nearby, tipping his cap to him on the way out.
With a long sigh Thomas looked around at all the vases, there seemed to be almost as many as there were in his nightmare, but at least this part had a somewhat happy ending, even if in the end it was Finn who got stabbed in the heart with rose stems. But it was only a matter of time before something worked out for the youngest Shelby.
The next morning Y/N made her way in to the shop, the thought of seeing another bouquet making her cringe as she opened the door. To her surprise the shop was empty, all except for one bouquet on her desk.
“Morning Y/N.” Finn said quietly, startling her slightly.
“Oh hi Finn! How are you love?” She asked.
“Good...I uh...wanted to tell you something.” He said, nervously putting his hands in his pockets.
“Of course, what is it?” She asked, leaning against her desk. Thomas was eyeing their interaction from his office, smirking to himself as he watched Finn doing one of the hardest things he’s had to do since taking a bullet to the arm.
“I uh...sent you all those roses. Tommy thought it would be best if I told you, seeing as it worried you. I-I liked you for a while and didn’t really know what to do about it and so I may have went overboard on the flowers. I’m sorry.” He said quickly, Y/N looking at the floor with her arms crossed over her chest.
“Finn...” she said quietly.
“I appreciate them. So so much alright? I just....my heart is somewhere else and I’m also older. Don’t get me wrong you’re very charming. I think all the Shelby’s can learn something from you. But just know I don’t feel the same way. I do appreciate them though, it’s probably the sweetest thing that I’ve ever gotten. So thank you.” She said, giving him a small hug.
“I figured that...but it’s fine. I’m happy they made you happy. It’s alright though. I uh, may have met someone else anyway.” He said, his cheeks flushing.
“Oh really? Who’s the lucky lady?” She asked.
“Someone I met last night. I went to the Garrison.” He said.
“I’m happy for you. You’ll have to tell Tommy.” She said, eyeing his office.
“Oh no it’s fine I’m sure he won’t-“ Finn started to say as Tommy walked out.
“Aye Finn! How’d the Garrison go?” He asked, walking near Y/N and holding her hand. He never did that in public really but with the shop being almost empty on a Saturday he figured why not. To his surprise she actually did it back, making his heart race slightly.
“It-it was good. I told Y/N about my attempt at trying to win her over.” He said chuckling at his efforts.
“I see. Did you manage meet anyone last night?” He asked.
“Actually yeah....she’s nice...kind of like Y/N. She’s a florist matter of fact. Turns out she eyed me at the shop when I’d bought some last week. I’m going to see her today, if that’s okay with you and Pol.” He said nervously.
“Of course. Don’t get into too much trouble though, I really don’t want to pull a bullet out your arm later.” He said.
“Finn, wait!” Y/N said, breaking free from Tommy’s hand to hand Finn the roses that were left.
“Take these. She’ll love them.” She said.
“Alright. Thanks you two. Don’t you both go getting into trouble either. I’d rather not have to come back in to work today.” He said.
“Oh I can’t promise that.” Tommy said, smirking at Y/N.
“Oh fuck off Tom.” He said, chuckling and quickly leaving the shop. His heart racing as he ran to the girl meant for him. Finally healing from the past with each step he took.

Summary: Y/N is a nurse at the hospital Michael is recuperating at, and has been a nuisance ever since the ordeal with the Italians. After a particularly snarky encounter with the young blinder, Y/N warns Thomas of his cousins antics, who later asks her out for a drink to ease both their nerves, ending in a romantic night for the lead member and a possible new relationship to form.
Tumblr media
“Will I be discharged soon? The Shelby’s need me back.” Michael asked, the gunshot wound still aching as he spoke.
“No.” Y/N said with an annoyed expression. Inspecting the wound as she put a new bandage over it, Michael wincing as she did so.
“Right, well I guess you’ll have to talk to Thomas then. Good luck Y/N.” Michael said, angrily pulling his shirt back on and leaning against the rough pillows on his hospital bed.
“It’s just our policy Michael. I’d hate to have a patient bleeding out on the floor. I just mopped.” She said, discarding the old bandages.
“Don’t let the door hit you on the way out aye?” He said, watching her with a frustrated look on his face. His nerves still reeling over the surprise visit from Luca Changretta shoving a gun in his face hours before.
He knew he had to get out, and soon if he wanted to help his mother and to try to mend things with the others, at least to some degree.
Down the hall at the reception desk, Thomas walked in, quickly removing his cap before stopping at the desk.
“Hello Mr. Shelby. Here to see Michael?” Y/N asked, finishing her report.
“Yes. Is he able to have visitors at the moment?” He asked.
“Yes, but I’d tread carefully. He’s a bit cranky today. Wasn’t very pleasant earlier...told me to not let the door hit me on my way out.” She said with a smirk, his blue gaze making her breath catch in her throat.
“Well, I’ll apologize on his behalf since he’s not man enough to. You’re just doing your job, love.” He said, a slight smirk forming on his face.
“Thank you, Mr. Shelby.” She said.
“Call me Tommy.” He said, licking his lips before placing a cigarette in his mouth.
Y/N reached her hand out to stop him, the lighter unable to be flicked with her hand over it.
“No smoking in here, sorry Tommy.” She said, a stickler for the rules, at least when it came to her shifts at the hospital.
“If you say so.” He said, a small sigh escaping his lips before he put the lighter and cigarette back in his coat.
“Good luck, Tommy.” She said, a small smirk on her lips.
He nodded before reluctantly walking to the room, not bothering to knock on the door.
“What’re you doing here Tommy.” Michael stated, still frustrated.
“Just checking on ya. You’ve been giving the nurse a hard time aye?” He said, a cold look in his eyes as he remembered Michael’s wrong-doings before the Italians shot him.
“Just asked her if I could go home, she said no of course. Said she didn’t want a patient bleeding out cuz she just mopped. Stupid really.” He said, sneaking a cigarette from under his pillow.
“You can’t have that right now Michael. At least not until you’re healed more.” He said.
“Oh fuck off Tom. I can do what I want in here. What...did she tell you there’s no smoking?” He asked.
“Aye she did. She’s just following protocol.” He said.
“I don’t care. Just leave me will ya? I can deal with her later.” He said, lighting the cigarette.
Thomas sighed in frustration at the young man, unable to understand why except that he was tired of being cooped up in the small, white room.
“I’ll have your mother come by later. I suggest you show the woman who helped save you some respect.” He said, walking out of the room.
“I told ya. He’s been one hell of a patient aye?” Y/N asked, closing the medical book on her desk.
“Mhmm. Say, have you seen anyone in here besides me today?” He asked.
“No, I started my shift only and hour ago.” She said.
“How long does it go till?” He asked.
“Uhm, ‘round five hours. Won’t be out till at least six if all the patients fucking behave.” She said.
“That’s a new one, I’ve seen ya every day for the two weeks and you’re cussing now. Blinders are rubbing off on ya.” He said.
“I knew that’s what it was. It’s contagious.” She said, chuckling slightly.
“Well how about I pick you up ‘round then aye? I can take you for a drink. I think you’ve earned it after dealing with my fucking cousin of all people.” He said.
“You’re joking...” She said, never thinking Thomas Shelby would ever ask her - a day-shift nurse - out for a drink.
“Am I’m laughing?” He asked, a small smirk on his face.
Y/N looked at the clock nearby, the hands ticking down ever so slowly.
“I’d love to. I’ll be counting down the hours.” She said, grinning.
“Alright. I’ll see you then, miss.” He said.
“Aye Tommy?” She called out before he walked off too far.
“Call me Y/N.” She said.
“Right...I’ll see you later miss Y/N.” He said, making it a point to pull out a cigarette and lighting it just as he walked out the door, leaving Y/N chuckling to herself.
The hours dragged on, Y/N dealing with one rude patient after another. One screaming at her and one getting blood all over her uniform during a grueling emergency surgery.
“Jesus. You’ve been through hell aye?” A voice sounded from the hallway as Y/N neared her desk for the last time that night.
“Oh! Uh...hi Tommy. Fucking startled me ya know.” She said, swiping a strand of hair out of her face as she gathered her things.
“I’m going to get out of all this mess and then I’ll be ready to go. You can wait in the lobby if you’d like.” She said, looking at the gangster leaning against the wall, staring at Michael’s door with an empty expression.
“Alright.” He said, walking out to the old rickety chairs outside the main reception area.
She scurried to the nurses changing room and put on the only clothes she had, a black dress and cardigan with worn, black heels.
She washed the dried blood off her hands and face and hastily applied a small amount of lipstick, eyeliner, and mascara, nothing too extravagant given her circumstances.
With a nervous sigh, she looked in the mirror one last time, wrestling with her hair a bit to make it at least somewhat presentable for wherever he was taking her.
“That wasn’t long. You look great, Y/N.” He said, putting down a random book that was sitting on one of the old side tables.
“Thank you! I uh, didn’t have much to work with back there but it’s better than being covered in blood aye?” She said, wrapping her coat tightly around her as she braced for the cold night air that was sure to slither its way through their bones.
“Aye, I guess that’s true.” He said, thinking about how he’d shown up to numerous places covered in blood, not really taking it into account before.
“So, Tommy Shelby. Where in the world are we going?” She asked, looking at him. The streetlights shooting by as he drove down the many dark streets of Birmingham.
“Well, there’s not many I like going to except for the Garrison. You heard of it?” He asked.
“Yeah, been a couple times with friends. It’s fun...most times.” She said, cringing at past drunk memories.
Thomas looked at her as the smirk spread across her features, her eyes wrinkling with the movement as they continued their drive to the pub.
“Here we are.” He said, getting out and quickly helping her down from the tall, black car. The metal hood shining in the moonlight as the noise from the pub made its way through the streets.
The noise grew as they walked in, the smell of booze filling the air as they made their way to the bar.
“Hiya Mr. Shelby. What can I get for you and the lucky lady?” The bartender asked cheerfully.
“The usual for me. What about you love?” He asked, her mind racing with trying to decide on something.
“I’ll just have what he’s having? And a gin please.” She said.
“You like whiskey?” He asked with a smirk.
“Yeah. Only drink it on bad nights usually. Takes the pain away.” She said.
“Pain of what?” He asked as the bartender sat a whole bottle down along with two shot glasses and her gin.
Tommy nodded at the bartender as she spoke.
“A lot of things. I see a lot of people in bad shape all time. Kind of haunts ya you know? And dealing with patients like your cousin aren’t much better. Pain in my ass really.” She said, chuckling and taking a nervous sip of her gin.
“Aye, that he is. I told him to lay off though. You helped save him after all. It’s the least he could do.” He said, pouring them both a shot.
“So are we splitting the bill or? I don’t mind.” She said.
“Nah, I get the drinks for free. That includes yours.” He said.
“Oh...” she said, taking a swig of her gin again, the clear liquid burning like fire on the way down.
“I make gin.” He said, changing the subject.
“Oh really? Is it good?” She asked.
“Personally I think it is, some people prefer it...not as sweet though. What do you think of it?” He asked.
“Wait, this is yours?” She asked, downing the last of it slowly, trying to form a decent opinion as it burned down her throat.
“Hmm, well...” she said, turning her nose up, jokingly.
“I’m kidding. You should’ve seen your face, love...It’s good though. I don’t think it’s too sweet...It’s just right.” She said, looking up at him as he downed his now third shot.
“You drinking that whole bottle?” She asked.
He shook his head and lit a cigarette, pouring her another after she downed the first one.
“Not unless you help me. Maybe then I’ll make it back to the house.” He said.
“You live ‘round here?” She asked.
“Not anymore. Up at Arrow House.” He said, blowing a puff of smoke away from her.
“Jesus. I don’t want to know what that cost, but I’m sure you and your blinders could afford those things. Is it nice?” She asked, slightly regretting the rapid pace she downed the shots in.
“It’s grand. More so in the sense it’s empty. Lots of rooms with no life in them really. My son Charlie’s there but that’s it besides the nanny and the maids.” He said.
“You have a whole crew then. I’m impressed.” She said.
“Would you like to go there?” He asked.
“Sure. But...” she said, pouring herself a shot of the whiskey.
“Let’s finish this first, can’t let a good thing go to waste aye?” She said, knocking back a shot. Her head slowly turning fuzzy as she hadn’t drank in a few months.
As she put the bottle down, a drunken man came up behind her suddenly, an ugly smile on his face as he grasped at her bum.
She quickly turned around, backing up towards Tommy.
“Get your fucking hands off me you bastard! Go on, go!” She yelled, shoving the already unstable man until he stumbled back. The liquor slowly getting to her as she watched the scene unfold.
Thomas moved her behind him as she watched him unbutton his sleeves, the act causing her to bite her lip curiously as she watched his posture change. The drunken man getting up and slurring his words in a drunken rage as he went to punch him. Tommy blocked the shaky punch and landed one on the mans nose as he stumbled back, blood erupting from the mans nose and also from Tommy’s hands from the sharp impact. The man, with practically more booze than blood in his system came at him again, this time landing a hit to his cheek causing a gash to form. As the brawl ensued, she watched tipsily as a crowd gathered around them both, egging on the blinder who practically owned half of Birmingham at that point.
“You bastard! You broke me nose!” The man yelled, finally noticing the damage done.
“Yeah well you touched my girl so I’d say we’re even. Now go on before I kill ya.” He said in a low voice, his cheek bleeding as he spoke.
“Y-you’ll pay for this. I swear it!” The man said angrily as he pushed his way through the pub and out the door, nearly stumbling as he walked onto the cold cobblestone streets.
“You alright Y/N?” Thomas asked as he turned around, wiping the blood on a towel the bartender already had ready for him.
“I-I’m fine.” She said, going back to the bar and pouring herself another shot, her nerves finally calming down after wanting to beat the man up herself, knowing she could have if only she’d tried harder.
“I think he had concrete for a nose.” He said, she could see the way his skin spilt around his worn knuckles, the blood snaking it’s way down his arm as he clutched the bottle of whiskey.
“Sorry you had to see that.” He said, knocking a shot back and then pulling out another cigarette, a frustrated sigh coming from his lips as the flames from the lighter ignited the thin roll of paper.
“Don’t be sorry. You did a good thing. I’m just mad I couldn’t punch him myself.” She said smirking, trying to lighten the mood as the atmosphere around them returned to normal.
He smirked at that, causing the blood to trickle down his face more as she watched.
“Here. This’ll hurt but it’ll help for now.” She said, turning the bottle neck-down so some it would pour onto the towel. As she leaned in to dab it on his cut cheek, his eyes scanned her face. She was halfway focused due to the alcohol in her system but still more calm than others in the past. He tried not to wince as she applied light pressure, not wanting to hurt him.
“How about we finish this bottle and head out?” He asked.
“Sounds like a plan.” She said, clinking her shot glass with his after setting the bloody towel down.
They both drank until the bottle ran dry, Y/N’s head feeling light and slightly like it was spinning as she made her way to the car. Thomas on the other hand seemed a bit less un-phased, having drunken more in that one week than she had in months.
“Did...did I say thank you? I really should’ve said thank you. That was brave. You just....cracked him right in the nose.” She said drunkenly as she made a punching gesture with her fist.
Thomas chuckled as he drove them to his house, the cool night air slowly sobering them up as they set out for the seemingly long drive to the large manor in the countryside.
“Tommy?” She asked, her eyes landing on him as the moonlight shined through the windows of the car, only his silhouette visible as he spoke.
“Yeah love?”
“Out of all the women...why me? Why’d you decide to go out with a nurse?” She said, laughing at herself slightly. The world slowly not spinning as much as they neared the house.
Thomas was silent for a moment, trying to choose his words carefully since he’d been so reckless with past suitors. He couldn’t stand another heartbreak and so he decided to think a bit more cautiously, for once.
Tommy sighed as he pulled up to the manor, his door creaking as he closed it and helped her out.
“I just happen to like you. You seem...kind. At least when a drunk isn’t trying to put the moves on ya” He said, leading her into the house, the rooms eerily empty as everyone was asleep.
“I see. Well Tommy, if it’s any consolation, I uh may just happen to like you as well. I don’t really care about what they say you know.” She said, fiddling with the buttons on her coat as he helped her take it off.
“And what do they say, Y/N?” He asked, his hand going to hers as he led her around the house quietly.
“They say you’re a drug dealing gangster who kills for fun.” She said smirking.
“They’re only half right, love.” He said, stopping just outside his bedroom.
“How so?” She asked, looking into his eyes in the dimly lit hall.
“I kill for business. Not for fun.” He said, gently caressing her cheek before he brought his lips to hers.
She broke away after a moment, looking at the cut on his cheek.
“I don’t want to hurt you, you need stitches you know.” She said, smirking up at him.
He sighed and led her into the grand bedroom, the luxurious bathroom located just near the room as they walked towards it.
Thomas turned on the light, illuminating the space as he rummaged around for alcohol and his small sewing kit, which saved him more often than not.
“I usually do this myself but I’m sure you’re better at this love.” He said, sitting on the counter as she stood between his legs, expertly threading the needle as she inspected it.
“This is going to hurt, I’m just being honest with you.” She said, forgoing her usual bedside manners.
“Can’t be worse than what I’ve done to myself aye? You won’t leave a huge scar like I would.” He said, looking at her as she started her work. The needle stinging as she quickly stitched him up.
“Scar a handsome face like yours? I could never.” She said, with a smirk as she tied off the stitch and clipped it, dabbing a bit of the alcohol on it to clean it once more. Before he could move, she took his hand gently in hers, dabbing the blood off his hand and running the alcohol over his knuckles as he sat there, a hiss of pain escaping his mouth at the unexpected burn.
“That was worse.” He said.
“I know. It’s never fun treating busted knuckles. I’d suggest maybe not punching anyone in the next couple of days...if you can manage.” She said, bandaging them up.
“For you, I’ll try not to. Now...” He trailed off, his eyes roaming over her.
“What?” She asked, looking at him as she caught him staring.
“Where were we?” He asked, his hand gently holding hers as she stood closer.

“Oh....right...” she said smirking, bringing her lips gently to his as his hands found their way to her hips, pulling her towards him. Their kiss grew heated as more time passed, his hand stinging as he snaked it through her hair, bringing her closer to him as he broke from her lips and sucked light bruises onto her neck, eliciting a soft moan from her lips.
Their hands wandered over each other, pulling at what clothing remained between them as Thomas led her to the bed. Her smooth skin feeling like silk under his rough fingertips.
Y/N giggled as he laid her on the bed, kissing his way down her neck and chest until he got to her core. His head resting perfectly between her legs as he devoured her, the feeling indescribable as she clutched the expensive sheets beneath her. Her insides soon turning to a knot as she felt her orgasm coming on, her hands finding their way to his head as she grasped his hair tightly, feeling her hips grinding on him as he brought her over the edge, her moans filling the room as she came undone on his lips. As he lifted his head up, he hovered over her, kissing his way up to her lips as she tasted herself on him. Slowly urging her hand down to take hold of him, already hard and yearning to be inside her.
“You sure?” He asked, a low moan escaping his lips as she pumped him. With a quick nod she aligned him with her entrance, wanting nothing more than to close the gap between them. She gasped lightly at the sensation, the pressure of him filling her up as he began thrusting his hips into her. The familiar feeling washing over her again minutes later, tightening around him as she moaned his name. The dim lighting making it harder to see as they continued, making the sensation all the more heightened as his thrusts quickened, and a low moan came from his lips again.
In a swift movement, he let her get on top, riding him as he watched from under her. Her hands scratching down his chest as her body tensed around him, grinding herself down harder and faster as she came once more. Her scratches leaving slight red streaks down his chest as she came down from her high.
Thomas sat up slightly as she rode him slowly once more, his hips meeting hers as she bounced on his cock. His breathing a bit ragged as he came closer. His thrusts getting slower with every minute. As she came close once more, Thomas let out a moan as he came undone, pulling her closer to him as he did so, her walls clenching around him as she moaned in his ear. Their breathing both leveling out as they lied next to each other, sleep finally invading their bones as they lay tangled in each other’s embrace.
“You don’t want me to leave do you?” She asked after a while, stealing Thomas’ cigarette from his mouth as she took a drag from it.
“I’d quite like it if ya stayed actually. Why? Do you want to?” He asked, watching the smoke escape her lips.
“No, I just thought you’d want me to. Didn’t think you’d want anything more after this.” She said.
“What if I do want something more aye?” He asked.
She smiled and thought for a moment before kissing him.
“Then you’ll have to be more careful Tommy Shelby. Can’t have you being hurt everyday. The hospital is full as it is.” She said.
Thomas chuckled as he looked down at her, her eyes lighting up at his smile.
“I’ll try, but I’m not making any promises.” He said, kissing her once more before they decided to go to bed for the night, the hope for a new relationship ever so looming on the horizon.

Summary: Y/N worries Finn’s family won’t trust her, but she gains it in an unexpected way.
Tumblr media
“I’ve told you a hundred times Finn, your family doesn’t like me! It’s no secret.” Y/N stated, pacing around her room that Finn ventured to almost every night.
“They do too! They’re just...horrible at trusting people really. That’s all.” He said, stopping her from frantically pacing by placing his arms around her when she got close to him.
“Let me go!” She yelled, giggling as he picked her up and placed her on the bed.
He hovered over her like so many nights before, kissing her neck as she whimpered quietly in her barren apartment. His hands trailing down to her hips as she pulled him closer, their movements slowly breaking her out of her worries.
“When you-“ Y/N began, but was interrupted by Finn kissing her passionately.
“Stop worrying. We’re seeing them tomorrow whether you want to or not. They know how important you are to me, they just haven’t gotten to know you that well yet.” He said, continuing his actions as she moaned into his lips as his hands traveled further down.
Later that night, they lied there tangled in each other’s arms. Breathing ragged as they came down from their high.
“Can you believe we’ve been dating for a year, love?” He asked, looking up at the aging ceiling.
“Dating in secret for 6 months, dating in public for the other 6, it doesn’t feel like a year.” She said tersely.
Finn sighed as she spoke, preparing himself for another mini-lecture.
“My family can be a bit much Y/N, I’m sorry I kept you a secret from them for so long. There’s just...a lot of things about them that are-“ He started before Y/N interrupted him.
“Dangerous. I know.” She said sighing as she cuddled into his chest.
“Yeah. You’re not on their bad side, but it’s easy to get there, so I just wanted to keep you safe. Those 6 months were some of the scariest of my life so far. I just didn’t want you to get hurt.” He said, kissing the top of your head.
She turned to him, not saying a word as she looked into his eyes. They were so bright and full of hope despite the things he’s seen, making her wonder how long it would be until they turned cold and sinister like his brothers.
“I love you, Finn. I really do.” She said, pecking him on the lips before lying back down to sleep.
“I know.” He said, settling down beside her, hoping tomorrow would go well.
The next morning, the mail man came by dropping off various letters, waking them from their slumber as he banged on the door.
Finn shot up, looking to see Y/N still asleep as he went to see who it was.
He grabbed his hand gun after he put on his pants, and quietly walked to the door.
“Hello sir! Good morning. Here’s the mail for Miss Y/L/N.” He said cheerfully.
“Thank you.” He said, his nerves calming as he tucked the gun in his pocket, out of sight of the man.
As he waved the man off and closed the door, he heard his girlfriend’s footsteps lightly coming down the stairs.
“Finn? Who was that? Is everything okay?” She asked, pulling her robe around her nude body tightly.
“Yeah, just the mail.” He said, running his hands through the mass of hair on his head. He hadn’t told her the terrible news yet, but he figured bringing her to the family meeting would suffice.
He watched as she rummaged through various letters from her loved ones in London, knowing she’d probably spend hours writing back as she missed them terribly. Her job at a children’s charity office had forced her to move out to Small Heath after all.
As he watched, he saw her pick up a small letter that had intricate writing on it.
Y/N’s brow furrowed as she didn’t recognize the persons handwriting.
And when she opened it, she only grew more confused as she stared at the black handprint stamped on the white paper.
“What’s this?” She asked, raising it up to him. He crossed the room in a flash and tugged the letter from her hand.
“We have to go.” He said quickly, angrily.
“Finn, wait! We have to get dressed are you mad?!” She yelled, panicking internally.
Finn stopped near the front door and pinched the bridge of his nose in annoyance, realizing he almost went to a family meeting half dressed, and leaving his girlfriend to meet them in a robe.
“Right. Ok, we have to be quick. C’mon.” He said leading her back upstairs so they could change.
Once done, they ran down the stairs, Y/N grabbing the letter and shoving it in her pocket as they went out the door.
Meanwhile at the shop, Tommy paced and checked his pocket watch as the family waited for Finn, knowing he’d probably bring his girlfriend in with him.
“So you’re telling me this fucking black hand is from the Changretta’s, Tom?” John asked, his face flushing with anger as he slammed the letter on his desk.
“Yes. They’re here and they’re taunting us. But I can’t talk about that until everyone’s here alright?”
“Oi he’s probably just fucking his, girlfriend they’ll be here soon. She has no ties to us besides Finn. They wouldn’t go after him or her, he’s not as involved.” Arthur said.
“Not yet. I know how he works. He’s going to try to run this family into the ground if we let him.” Tommy said, lighting a cigarette as the shop doors flew open, Finn practically dragging Y/N through the lobby and into the room.
“What the fuck is this Tommy! Why’s he coming for her eh?” He said grabbing the letter from her hand roughly and tossing it on his desk.
“Finn, Y/N...nice of you to join us. Everyone sit down.” He said walking in front of his desk and leaning against it.
“Why is he coming for her? Can we trust her?” Linda asked, earning a cold look from Finn.
“Shut it Linda. Yes you can trust her for gods sake, leave the poor girl alone.” Ada said.
“Since I got this letter personally may I speak? Or do I have to be pregnant or married to one of you to do so?” Y/N remarked snidely, annoyed at Linda’s assumptions. Polly smirked as she sipped her tea nervously. Tommy raised an eyebrow and nodded for her to continue, not expecting her to join in on things so quickly.
The room fell silent as she clutched Finns hand nervously.
“I know I’m not liked around here. You have no reason to like me and I’m not going to beg for anyone’s approval, but I want you to know you can trust me. I love Finn, and I’d never put him and your family in harms way, and to my knowledge he wouldn’t do so either. I can’t even begin to tell you how I got that letter, but before you call me out again, Linda. I’d like to ease some of your all’s suspicions.” She said, shifting in her seat.
“I’ve met you all a fair amount of times in the last 6 months. During that time I’ve had to readjust to a new job and move away from my family who are in London, and they have no ties to whatever the hell’s going on, therefore they don’t have ties to me either. I swear you can trust me.” She said, feeling her heart rate sky rocketing.
“Do you know about Luca Changretta?” Tommy asked, rubbing a cigarette along his lip before lighting it and taking a drag.
“No. I’ve never heard that name in my life.” She stated.
“Well, I’ve called you all here today because that is one of the men who sent us all black hands. Everyone got one, and that means he knows where we live, he most likely knows where we are at all times.” Tommy said.
“I’m going to have eyes on you until this is over, but I need you all to promise me something.” He said, putting out his cigarette in the tray on his desk.
“Promise what Thomas?” Polly asked, putting her tea down and crossing her arms.
“If you see anything suspicious, you tell me. I don’t care if it’s a false alarm, you tell me and don’t mutter any of this to a single soul.” He said, glaring at everyone as they sat before him.
“John, Arthur, Finn, Isiah. Get ready, grab your guns and your caps. Ladies you stay here, only go out for break. Polly, keep the legal business running, we can’t have someone slipping under our noses.” He said checking his bullets and putting on his coat.
“Will you be setting men up at our houses?” Esme asked.
“Yes. Mine too, don’t worry they’ve been briefed already.” He said, walking out the door.
Finn stood up reluctantly and pulled Y/N in for a hug and she placed a quick peck on his lips before he left, putting his cap on his head and grabbing a gun.
“Now, we have to work ladies. Y/N you’re staying here. You’ll have to call in today.” Polly said, grabbing papers off Tommy’s desk.
“Okay. I can help if needed, I’ve done secretary work before.” She said.
Polly looked at her for a moment and studied her before answering.
“Alright, there’s a desk near mine that’s been empty, I think the poor girl quit but hasn’t handed in her letter of resignation. You’ll take her desk for today, I’ll give you papers to sign with the company name.” She ordered.
“Okay, thank you Polly.” Y/N said quietly, sitting down at the rather large desk. The girl must’ve quit because the desk was empty and she found no personal items there, not even a photograph.
Polly came strolling over with a handful of documents pointing at the various places to sign and explaining some of the forms to her.
“Thank you, Polly.” She said giving her a small smile.
Y/N began signing, using it as a way to take her mind off of Finn and his brothers whereabouts.
Polly and Ada discussed some other work, and Linda filed some papers while Esme typed documents up, they all worked together nicely but there was a visible underlying tension between them and Linda. And if Y/N had a bad list, she knew she was first on it.
She sighed as she blew through the papers, yearning for a break and deciding to call in for the day at her regular job.
“Hello this is Y/N Y/L/N. I’m calling in today, I have some personal matters to attend to.....alright....thank you Mrs. Johnson. I’ll be in tomorrow....goodbye.” She said, hearing the disappointment in her bosses voice as she spoke.
“Did you call in?” Polly asked, overhearing your phone call.
“Yes. My boss wasn’t too happy but it’s not something I can control really.” She said.
“Next time I wouldn’t deal in absolutes my dear.” Polly said, combing through papers.
“What do you mean?” Y/N asked, finishing the forms on her desk.
“I know we haven’t known you for long but one thing you should know about the Shelby’s my dear is that we try not to make promises or make definite plans with others.” She said.
“So you’re saying I probably won’t be coming into work tomorrow either?” Y/N asked, anxiety filling her mind as she thought of Finn being hurt.
“Yes. You never know with this fucking family.” She said lighting a cigarette.
“I’ll keep that in mind.” She said, excusing herself as she went towards the front door.
“Where are you going?” Polly asked.
“I just need some space. I’ll be right outside.” She said, she was about to promise that too but she heeded Polly’s words. They made sense but she couldn’t shake the sense of dread out of her bones.
As she leant against the cold brick building, she heard the door open as Ada walked out and stood near her.
“Did you come out here to see if I was lying?” Y/N asked.
“That and I wanted to apologize for Linda. She’s...difficult.” She said, lighting a cigarette for herself.
Y/N scoffed and lit one of her own, looking around nervously, scanning the streets for anything suspicious.
“They wouldn’t hang out right near the shop unless they want to be shot on sight.” Ada said.
“Can’t risk anything though eh?” Y/N said, taking another drag from her cigarette.
Ava smirked and nodded as she looked out at the dark, black-tinged buildings in front of them.
“We do like you, you know...we just can’t trust people very often in this business.” She said, looking at Y/N.
Y/N smiled as she stared at the brunette Shelby, her eyes less scarred by everything, kind of like Finn’s.
“Finn said that too. I’m relieved to hear that, I know it’s not easy welcoming in new people.” She said.
Ada nodded and patted Y/N’s shoulder before going back inside, leaving her out in the open.
Suddenly, a man walked near her looking just slightly out of place against the tattered clothes of the townspeople. He was tall, lean, and had a black hat on, making her tense up as he drew closer.
“Hello miss. Ya know where I can find a bar ‘round here?” He asked, looking around him quickly as he spoke, a toothpick sticking out of his mouth on the verge of falling with each word.
“No, sorry sir. Have a good day.” She said glancing at the tattoo on his neck.
“You work here?” He asked, walking closer to her.
She backed up until her back hit the wall, leaving her nowhere to go.
“No. May I ask your name? Not many men stop me on the streets and I’d like to know.” She asked, her heart racing as she tried to remain calm.
“You don’t belong on the streets sweetheart. You could join me though, I have some business I’m taking care of here, but when I’m done I can help you ya know.” He said leaning his palm against the wall, he was so close she could smell his cologne.
“That sounds suspicious you know. I’m not stupid.” She said, trying to walk towards the door of a nearby unmarked building, trying to get him away from the entrance to the shop.
He grabbed her wrist tightly as she went to yell, clasping his hand hard over her mouth and nose with a wet cloth. One whiff of the stuff and she was out, blackness overtaking her vision.
When she woke up she was in an alley, her clothes were ripped and her hands were tied to a pipe along a brick wall.
“What did you do to me?” She asked, scared of the answer.
“Nothing sweetheart, just wanted to take you somewhere more quiet, you seemed like a rowdy one.” He said, closing in around her and cutting her hands loose.
“Now, I’m going to ask you a question again. You have to answer honestly or I’ll take you right here in this alley.” He said.
“Okay.” She said sternly, trying to calm her nerves.
“What’s your name?” He asked.
“I asked you that earlier but you never told me.” She spat as he gripped her wrists tightly.
“My name is Y/N Y/L/N.” She said.
“I thought so. Mr. Shelby really needs to beef up his security around there don’t ya think?” He asked.
“Yes.” She said as he chuckled.
“You didn’t answer my question you know.” She stated, looking at his gun in its holster.
“Oh my bad sunshine. The names Luca. Luca Changretta. Wish we coulda met under better circumstances. I didn’t know Finn had such a fine woman.” He said.
“How do you know me?” She asked.
“I know all my enemies names. Ya gotta keep em’ closer than ya friends, you know the saying.” He said.
“I know you’re scared, but I just have one proposition for ya.” He continued, his eyes boring a hole into hers.
“What is it? To join your shitty hat club?” She asked, annoyed she got into this situation.
“Now that wasn’t nice miss Y/L/N. I’ll have to get ya for that one. Such a shame.” He said, flicking his switchblade out with one hand and gripping both your wrists with the other.
“If ya scream I’ll end ya.” He said. She blinked back tears as she forced her mouth shut, bracing for the pain of the blades edge coming for her face.
“You tend to run that pretty mouth of yours so let me help you with that.” He said inching the blade closer to her lips. She breathed heavily through her nose as she thought of anything to get her out of this situation.
She quickly brought her knee up, hitting him in the groin and making him groan in pain as he moved away from her, allowing her to run a couple of feet ahead of him.
“You can’t out-run a gun sweetheart.” He said, standing there with a pained look on his face as he clicked the gun, the bullets ready to fire in a split second.
“Walk back here and listen to my plan princess. I’ll let you go home after we talk.” He said.
Shaking, she reluctantly walked back to him, the alley feeling as if it was closing in on her every second.
“What?” She said, crossing her arms over her chest.
“You’re going to help me. I’m gonna send my men to Tommy’s warehouse and you’re gonna tell Tommy to meet them there with his brothers in tow...and you’re gonna blow it up. We’ve planted the bombs but you’ll push the button.” He said, a evil smirk hinting at his lips.
“You’re mad.” She said, attempting to walk away from him before he slammed her to the wall, cutting her cheek with the switchblade in the process.
“If you stand me up or tell them about the bombs, I’ll kill ya, and then I’ll kill your little boyfriend. I’m already after the rest of them. You can’t beat me sweetheart, I’ve been tracking you and Finn for days.” He said.
She touched her cheek silently as she cried, nodding along with his words as he brought her in for a hug.
“Good girl. Now, go home or back to whatever you were doing. Don’t forget ya job later, be at the wear house at 7.” He said before walking off.
Y/N smirked as the blood ran down her cheek. He wasn’t that smart, and it was the perfect way to earn the Shelby’s trust, now that their lives depended on it.
She glanced at her watch and realized she’d been out for longer than she should’ve. Knowing Tommy and the family would probably kill her themselves once she got back.
As she walked through the alley she realized she was right down the street.
“Stupid bastard, couldn’t even take me to a discreet location.” She scoffed, walking quickly to the doors and going in, walking straight to Tommy’s office. She could hear Finn yelling and Polly arguing with Ada, and the rest of the family quarreling back and forth as she walked in, not bothering to knock.
Everyone stopped to look at her as she walked straight to Finn, tears welling up in her eyes as he pulled her into his arms.
“Where the hell did you go love? You know he told you to stay here...” he said as she cried into his shirt.
“I know. I only went outside the shop. I’m sorry.” She said wiping the blood off her face with her hand and wincing at the cut.
“Where’d you get cut then aye? You weren’t at the shop when we got back. Fucking explain that Y/N.” Tommy said walking over to her as she sat down.
“That’s why I came back here. I was just getting some air outside, Polly and Ada both know that. Then a man came up to me, asking me if I worked there and if I knew where the bar was. I said no of course. Then as I tried to head the opposite way, just to lead him away from the shop, he fucking grabbed me...” She said, struggling to catch her breath as tears streamed down her face. Finn knelt beside her, holding her hand.
“That’s not all. Who was it?” Tommy demanded, the others stood around, tension in their features as they waited for her to speak.
“Luca Changretta.” She said, Finn’s eyes went dark, a look of anger settling over his features.
Tommy and Finn got up quickly, Tommy checking the guns and Finn pulling on his cap. Meanwhile John and Arthur gathered their machine guns.
“Wait! Please...” Y/N yelled, making them all stop and turn to her.
“Don’t go. Please don’t go. He-he told me he’d kill me if I told you about his plans but I don’t fucking care. If there’s a time to trust me then it’s right now because if you go after him you’ll all die.” She said, sitting back in the chair as she felt faint.
“What are you talking about Y/N?” Finn said, checking his gun as he stood near her.
“He said that he wanted me to meet him at the wear house at 7, that’s where you all were going, correct?” She asked, looking at Tommy.
“Yes.” He said.
“Don’t fucking go. He wanted me to be the one to push the button. Tommy he’s laced the warehouse with bombs. He wanted me to betray Finn. He wanted me to betray your family, but I couldn’t do it. I-“ she said, tears streaming down her face once again as Finn knelt down and pulled her into him, resting his head atop hers.
“What do we do then aye Tom?” John asked. His trigger finger growing impatient as he clutched the gun in his hands.
“We wait him out. When he sees we’re not there he’ll go after her, but he’ll come here. If he was confident enough to come here in broad daylight he’ll come here at night in a heartbeat. We’re waiting him out.” He said.
“Polly, Ada, Y/N, Linda, Esme. You go to the room in there, close the blinds.” He said, pointing to the door in his office that led to a smaller area where Lizzie usually worked. Luckily she was at home with the children, so she wouldn’t have to deal with the chaos.
The women went into the office and sat in various seats, closing the door behind them and waited quietly, all except Y/N.
“Did you hear what I said?” Tommy asked, his voice thick with anger.
“Yes. But I have a feeling he wants to see me, maybe I can-“ She started to say before Finn took her hand and led her to the office.
“You’re not staying out here. The Changretta’s take their plans seriously and he’ll be pissed when he finds out you betrayed him. Stay in there until it’s clear.” He said giving her a long hug and brushing his hand lightly over her cut.
“We’ll get them, I-“ He started to say before she cut him off with a kiss.
“Don’t promise anything. Just go.” She said, going into the office and shutting the door behind her.
Polly quietly gave her a hand gun as she came in, putting a finger to her lips as she did so.
“I’ve never shot one what are you doing?” Y/N asked.
“You may need it. Just point and shoot.” She said.
“Why me?” She asked, her hands shaking as she held the foreign object.
“You just helped the family. We trust you, and consider this your first day.” Polly said.
“Wait I still work-“ she started, Polly cutting her off.
“I’ve made arrangements for you. You’re safer with us. Besides...” she said lighting a cigarette.
“We pay better than those blokes at the charity office.” She said.
“You called my boss? When I left?” Y/N asked.
“Yes. Now do you accept or not?” She asked, finally looking at Y/N with a look more so of approval than suspicion.
“I will if we make it out of this alive.” Y/N said. Checking her watch to see the clock ticking down to 7pm.
“Finn.” Tommy said, pulling his little brother close to him.
“You’ll be answering the door. Don’t say a word, just lead them here in my office.” He said.
John, Arthur, and Isiah stood at varying points around the room, guns ready to ambush them if needed.
Tommy checked his machine gun as he saw Polly closing the blinds and shutting the lights of.
“Isiah turn the rest of the lights off in the shop, I only want mine on.” He said and Isiah stepped out to do as told, coming back a few minutes later and deciding to help protect Polly and then from inside the small office.
Finn looked anxiously at the clock as he stood near the front door. It was 15 past 7, and knowing the Changretta’s, they rented the fastest cars they could manage to get there.
A loud knock sounded on the door not long after, causing Tommy to look up from his pocket watch, a feeling washing over him similar to the moment right before The Battle of the Somme.
“Hello Finn. Show me and my men where Tommy is and this whole thing can be over. I promise you that.” He said. Finn just looked at him and led him to his office acting as if only Tommy was there.
He knocked twice waiting for his answer.
“Tommy, Mr. Changretta is here.” He said, waiting for his response.
“Send him in.” Tommy said. Finn came in and quickly stood in front of the door where the women were, reaching for the gun in his coat.
Luca and 3 men walked in, looking Arthur and John up and down as they sized everyone up with their eyes. His lips curling into a sinister smile as the toothpick stuck out of his mouth.
“I have a bone to pick with Finn’s girlfriend. She stood me up...broke my heart really. I could’ve made her night if she woulda let me.” He said, watching as Finn’s face turned into a mask of anger. He’d never been one to keep his facial expressions in check.
“I’m sorry that happened, we were none the wiser, we were going to the warehouse just now.” Tommy said, staring blankly.
“If you didn’t know about her then you would’ve been at the warehouse like we planned.” Luca said.
“Correct. But she didn’t return. We don’t know where she’s gone so that pushed us back.” He lied.
“She’s as smart as she is beautiful, and I told her to go home but I know she came here. I’ll kill her, you’ll see.” He said, walking towards the door to go look around.
“Why else are you here Changretta? You could be out finding Y/N yourself but instead you’re here. My brothers and I were just about to go deal with this business before heading home.” He said, John yawned as if on cue as he rocked back on his heels impatiently.
“If you’re not going to tell me then I’ll have to find her myself.” He said stepping towards Finn.
“Aren’t you here because you wanted to kill the family? Not just Y/N? You served us all a black hand after all.” Finn questioned, pointing his gun at Luca’s chest.
He smirked and turned towards Tommy as he nodded at his men, clearly not afraid of Finn’s gun. The three men lunged for Arthur as John cocked his gun, aiming at one of the men and shooting him in the head.
Tommy went towards one of the others who almost tackled John as Luca taunted Finn against the door.
Arthur tackled the first man down, wrestling the gun out of his hand as a bullet grazed his shoulder, Linda silently cringed in the other room at the sound of her husband in pain.
“You really thought you could take us down?” Finn yelled over the noise, shoving Luca back with the gun.
“I can, and you’ll be glad you’re dead if I tell you what I’d do to her-“ He started to say before Finn landed a punch to his face, sending him back a couple feet.
“You talk too much.” He said, going towards Luca again.
Luca smirked as Finn looked to the side briefly to see Tommy pulling a gun at the man he’d tackled. With one shot the second man was down, leaving John wrestling down the last one.
Tommy quickly ran to where Finn was and hit Luca in the back of the head with the butt of his gun, causing him to fall back against his desk, blood dotting various papers as he fell.
“Finn, go help John.” He said, before punching Luca in the face once again.
Finn shakily held the gun as he aimed at the man who was now landing punch’s to his brothers face, and shot, the sound of his body hitting the ground still causing a shiver down his spine despite him killing before.
As he stood there he heard a muffled cry coming from inside the room as he knew Y/N was watching through the cracks of the blinds, but was soon snapped back to reality as Tommy yelled out in pain.
Luca lowered his gun as he saw Tommy fall back, clutching his arm tightly.
He raised it at Finn, the blood dripping down his face and clouding his eyes as he aimed for the young blinder.
But suddenly the door opened, and Y/N came out pointing her hand gun at Luca, a tear rolling down her cheek as she did so.
“Get back Y/N. Go.” Finn said as he tried to shield her as Luca raised the gun up more, on the verge of shooting.
A shot rang out from behind Finn as Luca’s head rocked back at the impact, his body going limp as the bullet passed through his skull.
It was eerily silent after that. Finn’s ears rang as did hers as he realized he would’ve been dead if she had listened to him when he told her to go back.
Finn quickly took the gun from her and Tommy crawled over Luca’s body to check the pulse, smirking as he looked up at Y/N.
“Nice shot. How’d you get the gun?” He asked, walking towards her.
“Polly gave it to me. Told me to point and shoot.” She said, wiping a tear from her eye.
“Alright.” He said, walking over to the door and telling the others they could come out.
John and Arthur got to dragging the bodies out back, while Polly and the other women tiptoed over the blood and back to the lobby.
Finn followed them out and left Y/N standing there for a bit, staring at the blood coating Tommy’s floor.
“It feels weird the first time killing someone, you’ll get used to it.” He said, tying a tourniquet on his arm before going to clean some of the blood off his desk.
“Um...Polly said something about this being my first day. Am I to work for you now? I-I don’t know what I’d do.” She said pulling her tattered coat around herself.
“Yes. You can start tomorrow actually. Take the empty desk out there.” He said, referring to the one she worked at earlier in the day.
She nodded and walked towards the door, her hands shaking from the days events.
“Oh and Y/N?” Tommy said, grabbing a cloth from a drawer.
“If it makes things any better, I trust you just as much as Finn does. You’ll fit in here, just go easy on him eh?” He said, a small smirk playing at his usually stoic lips.
“I’ll try.” She said smirking and closing the door behind her.
“Y/N you ready to go home?” Finn called out over everyone talking. She looked around at what would be her new work, and ultimately her new family. Linda was cleaning Arthur’s arm, and John and Esme were making out on her desk. Meanwhile Polly and Ada were tidying up the place.
“Yeah.” She sighed, walking to him and putting her arm around his waist as he led her out into the cool night air.
“Does that cut hurt?” He asked, once in the car.
“Yeah, but I’ll be fine. Don’t worry about me.” She said, giving him a kiss before they drove off to her apartment. It was only mere hours ago that she was struggling to earn his family’s trust, and now she had it, and she knew she had to keep it no matter what.

Tumblr media
“Is she alive?” Polly asked the local medium who’d been known for telling fortunes and such. The medium’s eyes were dark beneath her jewel-toned veil as she answered the female blinder.
“Your eldest, Y/N, is in London. Go find her and your boy Michael. He’s living on a farm out in the country side.” She said flatly, her voice void of emotion.
“And what about my youngest daughter, Anna?” Polly asked, knowing in her heart that the truth wasn’t always the easiest thing to hear.
“She’s dead.” She said, tightening her grip on Polly’s hand as she shook with emotion, tears streaming down her face as she remembered the little baby girl placed in her arms years ago before her death. Knowing too that her son and eldest daughter were ripped from her arms at such a young age after their drunk of a father died lodged between a boat and a dock in the cut.
“Thank you.” Polly said shakily before leaving. Putting a few shillings down on the table as the woman nodded and watched her leave.
“What’d you expect aye? She tells you what you want to hear Pol’....”Thomas said, as she told him about her meeting with the medium earlier that morning.
“I just needed confirmation is all. God I can’t believe they’ve been out there all these years. You have to help me find them Tommy. Please.” She said, pulling her hands to her mouth nervously as she bit at her nails. Her eyes still tinged red from crying and her makeup smudged slightly.
“I’ll do what I can with the information we have. Until then I think you should take the day off unless you think you can work in the condition you’re in.” He said, looking over the papers from her son Michael’s entry into an orphanage and then glancing at the adoption papers where he’d been named Henry.
“Henry of all names...can you believe it? Disgraceful.” She said.
“Any word on Y/N? She has to be nearing 28 by now. The poor woman will probably faint when she finds out.” She said, feeling herself wanting to close herself off into her apartment as the thought of re-kindling a barely-there relationship loomed over her.
“I’ve found her adoption papers. They kept her name, but she’s in London as far as this goes. This address is where she’ll be.” He said sliding the document towards her and running his index finger over the crinkled paper.
“Alright.” She said, shakily lighting a cigarette.
“Pol’...I’m serious. You need to prepare for this if this all works out alright? Can’t have our best woman down. We still need you.” He said, looking into her glassy eyes. Tears threatening to spill once again.
“I will. I’ll go home right now. But please bring them to me once you get them.” She said. Thomas nodded as he watched her walk out the door quickly. Her nerves rattled as she sped off to her lavish apartment that had been vacant for far too long.
“Johnny?” Thomas said over the phone, the rowdy traveler making it to a payphone to report how their latest burial was going.
“Oi! How are ya Tommy? Just got done burnin’ the old bastard. What’s next?” He asked.
“You’re going to help me get Polly’s children back. She has a son named Michael in his late teens and an older daughter named Y/N who’s 28.” He said quickly, checking his pocket watch.
“Christ....alright.” He said, looking out at the burning pile in the distance.
“It’ll help her make peace Johnny. She needs this for more than just her. For the whole family really.” He said.
“I know I know. If only that poor bastard Gray didn’t die a drunk then none of ya would be in that mess aye?” He said, a long silence lingering over the phone.
“Perhaps.” Thomas said, his mind remembering all the hell their family went through as they grew up. The poverty, the fights, the nights sitting up in fear as their father yelled at their mother, their mother succumbing to her visions and bouts of depression, the feuds with the other families around them, the long nights in the trenches of France, and the whole family business being shoved onto their shoulders with no parental guidance besides their aunt Polly. She being the one saving grace of the whole family.
As Thomas and Johnny drove out to meet Michael, Polly sat at home pacing back and forth as she wondered how the next few hours or even days would go. Knowing once Thomas put his mind to something he always tried to finish it, especially if it involved family.
“I’m here for Henry. His mother wants him home.” Thomas said bluntly to the woman who’d practically raised him.
“My Henry? I have the papers...He’s mine.” She said.
“Aye, and I have the papers too. I’m his cousin. And I know his birth mother would love nothing more than to see him since he was ripped from her arms. Let the man go and meet her. Once he’s done that he can make his decision.” He said, eyeing the woman coldly.
With tears in her eyes, the woman called for Michael to come forward, the fawn-haired young man running over to him.
“Hello Henry. Your mother wants to see you.” He said. Michael’s face evolving into one of confusion.
“But she’s right here? Who are you anyway?” He asked, a sassy tone to his voice that reminded Thomas of Polly.
“I’m your cousin Thomas Shelby. Your birth mother is Polly Gray. Your real name is Michael Gray. Now you can stay here on this little farm or you can leave to meet the woman who’s fought to find you for so many years. Which one will it be?” He asked impatiently, lighting a cigarette.
Michael nervously looked around and pulled his little sister in for a hug, telling her to be good and then giving his adoptive mother a hug. Knowing she was fuming inside.
“I-I’ll ring you alright? I’ve been wondering why I never had pictures here of when I was younger...and...I’ve been wondering why you all look different than me. I-I think it’s time I go find out for myself mum.” He said, giving her one last hug before going off with his blinder cousin and his friend Johnny Dogs.
“Now on to your sister.” Thomas said, driving off towards the busy London area.
---
Your head pounded as you got up. The drinks from the night before doing your head in as a sharp knock sounded at your apartment door. You shrugged on your red laced robe and lit a cigarette as you hastily put your wild locks in a bun, your eyes burning from the sunlight streaming in through the window nearby.
One more sharp knock sounded as you neared the door, making your blood boil slightly.
“Bloody hell. Hold on a moment will ya?” You yelled out, tying your robe around your nude frame. The stranger in your room snoring loudly in the back room of your haphazard apartment.
“What’s all this then? It’s a little early to be soliciting people don’t ya think?” You asked, blowing out a cloud of smoke as you took in the men before you.
One had piercing blue eyes, who had one of the coldest looks you’d seen on a man in a long time. Knowing he’d probably seen more hurt than happiness in his past years of life.
The other two had darker eyes, one of them younger and oddly familiar as you thought about your own facial structure. You had the same eyes. Eyes that never matched your adoptive parents. Eyes that the kids in the orphanage always picked on for being too brown in color when theirs were reminiscent of the sea and the sky and all the green earth in between.
The seemingly oldest of them looked on from the distance. His cigar dangling from his lips as his dark eyes scanned you up and down. He had a rough look to him, like he’s seen more sun than anyone here. That he’d lived everywhere and nowhere at the same time.
“Who are you all and why are you hogging my doorstep?” You asked.
“We don’t have a lot of time, but long story short, I’m your cousin Thomas Shelby. And this young man here is your brother Michael Gray. We only just found him. Your mother...Polly Gray...has been looking for you all these years.” He said bluntly.
“What? I thought she was dead or something. God knows father was.” You said, remembering the drunken man vaguely as well as a beautiful dark haired woman you were sure to have gotten your good looks from.
“You remember them?” Michael asked, a bit envious that his newfound sister was able to remember such a thing.
“Mhmm. Well...when do we meet her aye? I have some business to take care of.” You said, fiddling with your hands as Johnny continued to stare.
“Go do what you need to. We’ll wait out here.” He said.
“Who’s the rough looking fellow? A bit quiet aye?” You asked, pointing to Johnny.
He cleared his throat and took his cap off. His bright smile catching your eye as you blew smoke out from your lips.
“Sorry. I’m Johnny. Johnny Dogs. Traveler and helper of the Shelby family and such. Nice to meet you Y/N. Heard lots of good things ‘bout ya.” He said.
“Oh really? Like what? That I’m a drunk like me father? That I’m a whore?” She asked with a smirk, her laugh sending Johnny’s heart over the edge.
“Gods no. That you’re beautiful actually. Polly said so herself. She remembers ya well.” He said with a small smile that was soon extinguished by a cold glance from Thomas.
“Right....well I’ll be out in a moment.” You said with a slight smile, walking back inside and throwing your best clothes on and hurriedly doing your makeup.
“Well hello there love, who are you getting ready for this morning?” The man lying on your bed half naked murmured as you put on the last of your makeup.
“Get out.” You said, pulling your coat over yourself as you grabbed your purse.
“What? After last night you want me to leave?” He asked.
“What is this? A bed and breakfast? I said get the fuck out of me house!” You yelled, not even bothering to remember the lads name as you followed him down the hall, his pants put on haphazardly as he ran shirtless out the door.
“You’ll pay for this!” He yelled, causing the three men to look on curiously.
“Actually you did sir, thanks for the tip love!” You yelled.
“Fucking asshole.” You added under your breath.
“Who was that?” Michael asked as you got in their car.
“Just a joyride love. Don’t worry about it.” You said, not bothering to filter yourself as Thomas smirked slightly. You we’re definitely Polly’s daughter. There was no doubt about it.
As you all neared Polly’s house you and Michael exchanged a nervous look with each other, knowing you might as well have forgotten her since it’s been so long. Your adoptive parents never mentioning her unless you started acting up. But the vague memories you did have always swirled around in your mind.
“Here we are. She said you could stay there with her if that’s something you both want. But I’ll let you both go on.” Thomas said, helping you both up to the apartment.
You knocked hard on the door, your hands shaking as you looked to the ground. You hoped for this day for years but you never thought it would happen so soon.
“Do ya want me to help em’ wit their bags Tom?” Johnny whispered from the car as he watched the woman standing nervously with her brother.
“No. Just stay in the car.” He said, bringing the rest of the bags up to them as Polly opened the door.
“My god...” she said, her hair a bit disheveled as she adjusted her dress and shawl around her shoulders.
“Mum? H-hi. Um....it’s me...Y/N...and Michael.” You said with a small smile on your face.
She didn’t say anything, instead just rushing forward and enveloping you both in a hug as Thomas stood by awkwardly.
“Thank you. Tommy my god thank you.” She said, giving him a short hug as well as you and Michael made your way inside the lavish apartment.
“Just make sure you’re all at the office early tomorrow alright? We’ll have a family meeting.” He said, a small smile on his face that hadn’t been there in ages.
“We will.” Polly said, waving him and Johnny off as she closed the door behind her.
“Now Michael...I know you don’t know me very well. But I want you to know I’m here for you always alright? You too Y/N. I can’t believe I have you back.” She said giving you each a tight hug as you wiped tears from your eyes.
As the night went on you all both gradually settled in, Polly agreeing to let you go to your apartment when you wanted since you were of age. But for now you accepted your place here, wanting to get to know the woman you’ve searched for all your life.
“Michael...it’s alright if I call you that right?” She asked hesitantly.
“Mhmm. I-I guess it’s growing on me. Never felt much like a Henry.” He said, unpacking his things.
“Right, well I’ll leave you two for the night. I’ll be expecting you both up early for Tommy’s meeting tomorrow. Welcome to the family.” She said, her mind racing as she left the room. Her heart slowly mending back together after being torn to pieces so many years ago.
---
At the shop the next morning, Michael and you both walked in a bit on edge, having gotten the rundown from Polly about what the business entailed on the way there. The workers around you eyeing you up as you lit a cigarette and walked past them in your heels and red overcoat. Michael looking around as well but with a smug smile on his face as he made acquaintances with the younger blinders rather quickly.
“Alright so the new members of the family as you lot can see are Y/N and Michael Gray. They’ve both confirmed they preferred their natural names so that’s what you’ll all call them. The papers and everything else are being sorted to give Polly any parental rights, and Michael...I have a proposition for you.” He said eyeing the young man who had a tough-yet laid back demeanor about him. The innocence of his past life slowly fading the longer he stayed in Birmingham.
“Alright. What is it Tommy?” He asked, smoking a cigarette carefully since he’d only done so once before at college.
“You’re going with us to the races. After we see what you’re made of, I’ll consider you for an accounting position.” He said.
“Sounds good to me.” He said swallowing hard and looking towards his mother.
“It doesn’t bloody sound good to me. I’ve just gotten my children back and you want to put them through some peaky initiation?” Polly snapped at her nephew. Ada, Arthur, John, and Finn looking at you and your brother with curious eyes during the awkward silence that ensued.
“It’s the only way Pol’ he’ll be fine.” Thomas said flatly, his voice still void of emotion.
“What will I be doing? I can’t stay cooped up here all day.” You said, blowing a cloud of smoke from your lips as you stared down your blue eyed devil of a cousin.
“Well, you could work here with the rest of us or you could work with the Lee’s and the rest down at their stop. Think of it as being a liaison for us.” He said.
You looked around at the dark and cramped place, your mothers familiar eyes knowing what you’d pick. You were an adult and had been on your own for many years, knowing full well how to handle yourself for the most part and besides, if you got to get out in the open air for a while it wouldn’t be half bad.
“I can do that. Just tell me how to get there and I’ll go.” You said. Thomas handing you a map as he grabbed his car keys.
“You can still stay at the house you know.” Polly said as you gathered your things.
“I know mum. I’ll be back, it’s just work. Don’t worry.” You said giving her a hug and Michael a fake punch on the shoulder as you waltzed out the door.
“It’s better if I go with you. You don’t know them.” Thomas said, opening the door for you.
“....alright. Do I need to do anything before we go?” You asked.
“Just please tell me you know how to shoot a gun.” He said, starting the car.
“Just point and shoot right? I remember one thing before dad died and that was going hunting with him in the woods. Just that once.” You said.
“That should be good enough. Take this.” He said, handing you a small handgun from his jacket.
“Do I have to kill anyone?” You asked, the thought making a shiver run down your spine slightly.
“Only if they come after ya or the family.” He said.
You nodded your head silently as you understood. You’d heard of the blinders while being in London, and from Polly’s rundown before getting to the shop, but you’d never thought you’d be related to them in such a way. But maybe this was the start you’d needed. At least now you weren’t making a living off cleaning houses and singing in taverns.
“Here we are.” He said after a long while of silence. Your eyes adjusting to the bright sunlight that spread across the vacant land where a slew of vardo’s were parked. Bonfires lit near them as they sat around the flames. Various animals roasting on a spit as music played in the distance.
“This is where I’ll be?” You asked, not seeing an actual brick and mortar house in sight. But remembering bits and pieces of the old vardo you had grew up briefly in with your mum. Her late teenaged self doing the best she could to care for the three of you young children.
“Mhm.” He mumbled as he led you through the tall grass to the people you’d be spending most of your working days around.
“There they are! What a sight! How are ya Tom?” Johnny asked rather loudly, a smile dancing across his face as he greeted you with a quick kiss to your hand.
“Good. Y/N here is going to be staying every few days or so. She’s the new liaison between the families here. Teach her what ya know and show her where she can call from. She’ll be reporting to me about anything going on that may need our attention. Think of it as security aye?” He said, eyeing Johnny as he stared slightly at the gorgeous woman.
“Will do, will do. Say let’s get you shown around, we have a place for ya all set up.” He said, taking your hand in his which made you smile. A flush of red hitting your cheeks as you looked on at your new place of work.
“Don’t do anything stupid Johnny.” Thomas said threateningly, knowing he could sense that Johnny had some feelings for his cousin.
“No worries Tom.” He said, tipping his cap to him as he led you to a vacant vardo.
“So what’s a woman as beautiful as you doin’ round these parts anyway? Did Polly drive ya off already?” He asked, setting your luggage down.
“No. I volunteered to come out here. Didn’t wanna be cooped up in that old dusty building.” You said, brushing a stray hair behind your ear.
“Well you’re in luck, darlin’. No dusty buildings here. Just a few snakes though.” He said as you jumped slightly, eyes making a mad-dash to the ground.
“I’m just messing with ya, doll.” He said, leaning up against the back steps.
“Is it hard being out here all the time? I know a few bars in London we could go to sometime. Get ya out for bit.” You said looking into his brown eyes that glowed almost golden in the bright afternoon sun.
“Not as hard when we have pretty women such as yourself here. Say...I’ll take ya up on that offer. How ‘bout later this week after we show ya the ropes?” He asked.
“Sounds good.” You said, smiling as you helped him carry things to the pond nearby. Children running around and skipping stones as you both made small talk while washing various clothes.
“How long do you all stay out here? It’s beautiful.” You said after a while of learning how to do various chores.
“Oh about a month or so. Never too long in one place in case the coppers come by bootin’ us out. We belong to ourselves, not to them. The sooner you learn that the better off you’ll be here aye?” He said, a hint of warning in his voice.
“Did someone tip you off one day? I’d never do that. I’m just working for Tommy and me mum.” You said, never wanting to come between anyone’s business.
“Yeah. Lost a few people a couple years back. Wasn’t good. But that’s all done now. New beginnings aye Y/N?” He said raising his flask to your glass of whiskey as you all sat near the pond.
“To new beginnings.” You said, staring off into the sky as you realized you’d be here more often than you’d thought.
---
The next few weeks seemed to fly by as you got used to living half there and half at Polly’s place. It was a hard decision but one you felt deep down needed to be made as you sold your apartment in London to be closer to your mum and Michael. Turns out he wasn’t as good and innocent as he’d claimed to be, gradually going on business with the boys and coming back high as a kite on cocaine. It was something even you hadn’t done in a long while, and something you swore one night to never do again after a bad spill landed you in the doctors. So it was safe to say your hard partying days were over, except for when it came to Johnny.
Over the course of the few weeks you’d been working together and updating Tommy on the business there, you grew closer and developed feelings for the rowdy traveler. Johnny’s smile and snarky remarks always bringing a wide grin to your face when you’d hear him with the lads or when you’d both go off drinking with people at the camp. But unfortunately, good things seemed to come to an end once the month was up, seeing as Tommy visited at a bad time one night and caught the two of you together. You’d been slightly embarrassed, but didn’t think he had it in him to ruin a good thing. But ruining things was Tommy’s specialty.
The night was abruptly ended when he dragged a naked Johnny away from you and threatened to terminate both of your positions with the company if things continued. But you were stubborn and strong willed just like your mother, and kept seeing him anyways even if it meant you were out of the company.
“I don’t see why I can’t love one man Pol’ Tommy’s gone and probably fucked every woman in town! He’ll he has enough children by various women to worry about already and here he is worrying about what I do with my life and my time?” You yelled as you packed your things away. You’d discussed moving out there with Johnny to spare the family drama. Thomas could tell you liked it out there and he had to admit, you gave him good information on people you’d come across, even if it was by letter or by pay phone more often than in person. And Polly knew you were like her, wanting to be free to do whatever you pleased and as much as it pained her to see you leave for a life on the road, she loved that you were the only one who kept that spirit alive. The only one who decided to throw away the silver spoon you’d been fed with half your life, to live for yourself and for a man that made you happy, even if he worked for the blue eyed devil himself.

Angst/Fluff and Smut if you think it fits.”
Summary: A marriage done for business seemed fitting at first, but as tensions rise among the family, Tommy eventually finds it in him to love again, but it falls on deaf ears as Y/N struggles to cope with his antics.
Tumblr media
The clock struck midnight as you lied awake, the door ajar where Tommy had left to go to his study. He’d often leave you in the middle of the night when his thoughts became too much and when his emotions would threaten to take over. He had only cried around you once before, and it was when his wife Grace, had passed. Other days his mood would swing like a fragile ball on a pendulum, and you being one of his assistants at the company, you got to see almost every face of Thomas Shelby first hand, except one of genuine love. His love seemed to only be reserved for ghosts.
The next morning you would awake and hear Charlie crying, and scuffling down the hall looking for his father. He was a toddler, hell-bent on trying to run through the house any chance he got, so mornings were often spent chasing him around the vast expanse of rooms. Unfortunately, Tommy was already gone for the day, leaving you and the nanny to care for him until it was time for you to come in during the afternoon.
At some points while at home, you swore you could feel the portrait above the stairwell giving you daggers as you carried Charlie up to his room, Grace’s glistening, painted eyes boring a hole into your soul. Tommy hadn’t been the only one affected by her sudden death though, as the whole family was facing his wrath lately.
Your marriage had been a quick business arrangement ordered by Polly. She grew tired of Tommy’s antics, thinking him finding someone else would help him move on despite Grace’s death being only 6 months prior. And so here you were: a diamond ring and signed paper here, a nice dress and a family portrait of fake smiles there, and nothing but tense conversations and awkward attempts at affection getting you by until now.
Tommy was never one for love, at least not with you. You knew that deep down the only time that he seemed to love you was when he fucked you on the nights that the business became too much for him. When he’d come home needing some sort of release that wasn’t opium or whiskey, something to keep the memories of Grace and the shovels at bay, if only for a little while.
As the clock down the hall drew nearer to noon, you finally got Charlie down for a nap and got ready for work, a tear threatening to flow down your cheek as you put on your makeup, thinking about how much you had loved him secretly, even before Grace died. You’d always steal glances at him and would stay after to help him with paperwork, and it didn’t take long for Polly to know. She hated Grace, seeing as she betrayed them years before, almost destroying the family. But she’d always see the way you interacted with him and the rest of the boys and Ada, and how you immediately helped with Charlie when things got too much for Tommy. She loved you and the rest of the family did too, seeing as you were one of his most loyal assistants, and so it only made sense at the time that maybe you would be the perfect fit for Tommy. You never wanted his wife dead, and you could’ve gone your whole life just admiring from afar like all the other women would do on the streets, but you didn’t think you’d end up how you were now. Taking the place of his dead wife, being a step-mom to Charlie, and trapped in a loveless marriage to the man you felt so strongly towards.
As you blotted your tears away, you quickly finished up your makeup. Attempting to look somewhat alive despite your loneliness inside. If it wasn’t for this union being for “the sake of the business” as Tommy harshly put it when you’d overheard him talking to Polly, you’d be out finding someone who actually loved you, but in your twisted turn of events this was what had to be done.
The nanny came by the room, giving you a sympathetic glance as you tightened the belt around your waist that was accentuating your dress, you mentally kicking yourself for wearing such a revealing dress without thinking about the cold weather outside.
“I’ll have Charlie for the rest of the day as usual Mrs. Shelby, and I’ll let the maid know to straighten up and the cooks to start prepping for dinner later.” She said softly.
“Alright, thank you...truly. I...I mean we don’t know what we’d do without you all. I know Tommy doesn’t say much...but thank you for all your work.” You say, giving her a small hug. She was your only friend in the house it seemed. She’d help you when you’d drink yourself into a crying fit when Tommy was off on business, and she’d listen to you when you needed reassurance on if it was the right choice by marrying him.
“If he didn’t love you, you’d be sleeping elsewhere my dear. He’ll wise up, just give him time.” She would say, helping you back to the bedroom on those cold, dreary nights.
As you left the insanely large house you drove out onto the gravel roads, nearing Small Heath gradually. Your heart raced as you parked the car along the black dirt roads, the smell of burning wood filling your nose as the sounds of pounded metal filled your ears from the warehouses in the distance.
Other women and children would move out of your way as you swiftly walked down the narrow sidewalks and through the doors of the shop. The sound of papers flipping and typewriters clicking as you made your way silently over to your desk that was next to Tommy’s office.
“Good afternoon Y/N how was the drive?” Polly asked sitting near you. You sighed and looked at the stack of papers on the desk as you answered.
“It was fine. Quiet as usual up until arriving here of course.” You said with a small smile. You hoped she wouldn’t see the silent pain behind your eyes but you knew she did because she lingered there for a bit longer.
“Trouble at home?” She asked, her eyes flicking to Thomas as he sat in his office smoking a cigarette and looking at his own stack of papers.
“Always.” You said shortly, getting out your own cigarette and lighting it.
“Am I doing something wrong Pol? I’ve tried my best to be there for him. To be there for Charlie. To try to love him even though he couldn’t give a damn about me...” You said looking out at the lobby of the shop, wanting to be anywhere but here.
“You’re doing the best you can my dear. I’ll have a talk with him.” She said, an annoyance in her voice as she said the last part.
“Thank you.” You said as she walked off, knocking hard on Tommy’s door. You could see in through one of the windows, but you willed yourself not to look at him as your anger bubbled up inside you.
The stack of papers in front of you seemed like a mountain at the time, business proposals, unsigned license agreements, betting numbers, bank statements, anything and everything under the sun needing to be signed by the end of the day, and so while you heard Tommy shouting at Polly, you poured yourself into your work.
After awhile you saw Polly leave in a hurry and so you got up, following her out the door with your coat draped over you.
“Where are you going Polly?” You asked, the chilled air almost taking your breath away.
“To the Garrison. I need a drink. Do you care to join?” She asked.
“I thought you’d never ask.” You said sighing in relief as you both hurried into the bar. The familiar scent of smoke and whiskey filling your nose as a few people sat inside drinking their woes away.
“What will it be?” The bartender said.
“I’ll have a gin and tonic, what about you Y/N?” Polly said.
“Whiskey.” You said eyeing the bottle you’d grown to love only because of your bastard of a husband.
“He’s already rubbed off on you. Whiskey was never your drink till now.” Polly said sipping her gin.
“Well, now it is. Needed something strong enough to deal with his bullshit.” You said, knocking back a shot.
“What did he say when you talked to him?” You asked, bracing yourself for the worst.
“He told me that he’s wanting to move you and Charlie back here to Small Heath due to the recent gang problems.” She said.
“Is he mad? He can’t up and move right now! Why would he do that? He doesn’t care about us! I practically see his son more than he does.” You said, grabbing the bottle from behind the counter.
“Hey that’ll cost ya!” The bartender said. You and Polly shot him a look and he glanced at the huge rock on your finger.
“Oh...I apologize Mrs. Gray...and...Mrs. Shelby. It’s on the house.” He said before turning to serve the other patrons.
“Why would he fucking move us down here...if he doesn’t love me why would he want to protect me? I was just a fucking business deal after all...right?” You said, a tear slipping down your face as you knocked another shot back.
Polly glanced at her drink as she let you continue.
“He told me he wants to keep you safe because he loves you, I know my nephew well enough to see that he does love you, he’s just god-awful at showing it recently.” Polly said.
“Well when he wants to actually care about me more than his dead fucking wife then let me know.” You said before taking the shot glass and whiskey bottle and walking to one of the booths in the back of the bar.
Polly sighed and finished her drink, watching as a blonde haired man came over to your table and sat next to you, draping an arm around your shoulder.
The shots slowly made their way into your system as you poured yourself another one, barely acknowledging his presence at first.
“Why are you alone and wearing a dress like that with a ring around ya finger aye? Old husband getting ya down?” He asked, whiskey tainting his breath as he spoke in your ear.
“How about we go somewhere more quiet. I can love you like he couldn’t.” He said. You knocked back a couple more shots and smirked as you awkwardly ignored his advances and made flirty conversation to pass the time. Polly stiffly turned back to her drink, striking up a conversation with the bartender as you soon let your hand wander down the mans chest as he got closer.
You felt wrong for making moves on him as he wasn’t your husband, but at this point you had no love to really lose, or so you thought.
Just as you and the blonde haired man started making out, you heard the doors to the Garrison fly open, revealing your emotionless shell of a husband. His stoic face looking towards the bar to see Polly nursing another gin and tonic and chatting up the bartender.
“Thought you were working, Polly.” He said annoyed.
“I am. I’m trying to work on your love life because you won’t. I love you but you don’t know a good thing until it’s gone.” She said, her words stinging him a bit as he thought of Grace.
In the distance he heard a familiar giggle and his head shot up, his eyes glaring at the woman he desperately came to love, wearing a revealing evening dress, kissing and giggling with some blonde haired worker from god knows where.
“Is that what you call working on my love life Polly?” He said pointing to you in the distance, your face burning as the now half-drunk bottle of whiskey coursed through you, helping you not to have a care in the world as you giggled at the mans joke as he reached for your waist.
“If that’s what gets you to see reason, then yes.” Polly said sipping her drink as she watched you two making out.
“As much as I want to I can’t. I’m sorry...I’m married...” You said breathlessly, stopping his hands from traveling further.
“He doesn’t have to know.” He said.
You looked up through your slightly blurred vision to see the familiar peaked cap of your husband getting closer to your table.
“He already does.” You said, a nervous edge to your voice as you watched everything unfold before you.
Tommy yanked the man off you by the back of shirt and spun him around to where he was facing him.
“What are you doing here messing around with my fucking wife aye!?” He said pushing him roughly into the wall before landing a fist to his jaw.
The man smirked, spitting out blood right onto Tommy’s shirt before speaking.
“I was just about to do what you couldn’t.” He said.
You cringed and took another shot as you heard the sound of the mans jaw break as Tommy’s fist landed on his face once again, rendering him unconscious.
As you watched in silence, he grabbed his cap and cut a gash in his face that was deep enough to need stitches.
“Tommy stop!” You yelled, struggling to get up and stumbling towards him, nearly knocking him over. His breathing was ragged as you clutched onto him, his arms gripping your waist and steadying you.
“I-I can explain...” You said wiping a stray tear from your eye as you felt your mascara streaking down your face.
“Explain fucking what Y/N!? That you wanted to fuck him? Am I not enough for you? You had to go find some random man just because I’m busy?!” He said shouting loudly.
You shakily stepped forward looking him in his eyes which were burning like blue flames from jealousy.
“If I did why would you care? Just say it Thomas...you don’t fucking love me! You love Grace, and no woman will ever amount to her even though she’s six feet under. You’ve never loved me...and you just expect me to act like everything’s fucking fine, but it’s not!.....Hell! I even see your fucking son more than you do, now how is that love Thomas? If you don’t love me just say it. Because I’ve loved you as best I could...and I’ve loved you long before that. If you did love me, and I mean actually loved me...then this wouldn’t have been a “business deal” it would’ve been a proper fucking marriage!” You yelled, throwing your shot glass on the ground, watching as the glass shattered into a million sparkling pieces on the wooden floor.
He stood there silently as you stumbled off towards the restroom, shooing Polly away as you closed the door behind you and locked it. You practically collapsed on the floor sobbing as the cold tile soothed your burning skin, the room spinning the longer you laid there.
“What are you going to do Tommy?” Polly asked as she eyed him from her seat at the bar.
“I’m going to try to get my wife back. It’s not a fucking business deal anymore Pol. Never was. You think I didn’t notice the whispers from you and the lads when she’d leave the room? About how she liked me and how we’d be good together? You think I didn’t notice her eyes watching me as I worked despite being married to Grace? Of course I loved Grace but she’s not been the easiest fucking thing to get over. I know I’ve been a terrible husband, I can see it in Y/N’s eyes every day...I can see her withering away from me as well as Charlie and it kills me inside...I’m just not the best at loving people and you know that...ever since Grace died it’s like a part of me has too, but I’m going to get that back. I have to.” He said, his eyes glistening a bit as he headed for the restrooms.
He knocked lightly and waited before calling your name, panic coursing through him as you didn’t answer.
Without a second thought he shoved his shoulder into the door, busting the lock and stumbling in to find you on the floor barely conscious.
You mumbled something unintelligible as he crouched down and picked you up, bringing you out to his car as Polly followed quickly behind.
“My god where are you taking her?” She yelled over the start of the engine.
“Home. Tell the lads I’m taking the day off.” He said before speeding off towards the house.
Once there, he carried you to the lavish bathroom that connected to your all’s bedroom and sat you down in a chair. He quickly got a cold rag and wiped it on your forehead and around the rest of your face trying to keep you conscious. You perked up slightly at the cold sensation but were quickly overcome by the all too familiar feeling of nausea, your body cursing you as you stumbled towards the toilet almost blindly. Tommy held your hair back as best he could, waiting for what felt like ages for you to stop getting sick. With a weak hand you flushed and stumbled up, shakily brushing your teeth and staring at your tragic reflection in the mirror as Tommy kept an eye on you from the door frame. He held a pair of your sleepwear and one of his t-shirts in his beat up hands.
You looked at him as you grudgingly took the clothes from him, changing into them carefully as your balance was still shit.
After wrestling them on, you went straight for the bed, barely acknowledging Tommy’s presence as he watched you carefully.
“I’m going to bed Thomas. You can leave for all I care.” You said wrapping yourself in the plush covers and closing your eyes.
“I’m not leaving Y/N.” He said as you heard his footsteps softly move towards the bed. The mattress shifting a bit as he climbed in next to you, letting you snuggle up against him.
“You should be at work.” You mumbled.
He stroked your arm lightly as he laid there, an unlit cigarette dangling from his lips.
“I’m not going anywhere. Not while my wife’s a mess.” He said.
“Why should you care?” You asked, sleep threatening to take over.
“Because I love you, Y/N. I’ve just been terrible at showing it. To both you and Charlie. I love you and I’m not going to lose you. I can’t lose you.” He said quickly, knowing you’d fall asleep at any moment.
“Tell me you love me when I wake up then, because I won’t remember this.” You said, listening to his heartbeat as you let the darkness overtake you.
“I will, I promise.” He said, gently kissing the top of your head as he laid there with you, hoping sleep would take him too.

It was a bleak winter evening the night you met Thomas Shelby. The stars were shining and the moon was illuminating the dark roads of Small Heath, giving you an rare view of the town. You had just finished packing up your small jewelry stand that you had set up near where your families vardo was parked. This was one of your more frequent stops as there were always locals wanting to buy jewelry for their loved ones. In return, this made you a nice familiar face amongst the dreary town.
In the distance, you heard screaming, but it wasn’t one of children playing or couples yelling, it was fearful and full of anguish. Before you knew it you were running towards the sound. Yelling for your mother to keep an eye on your stuff as you dashed off into the unknown. Your heart beat frantically as the shrill screams got closer, causing a shiver down your spine as your eyes adjusted to what lay before you in the dark alley. A woman seemingly around your age was lying there in a pool of blood, a cut running across her arm and a stab wound to her abdomen. You cringed at first, but having seen your fair share of blood due to your family throwing punches and hunting, it made you a bit less squeamish. You carefully crouched down beside her, pulling off your scarf as you gently placed it over her abdomen.
Her eyes were closed and her voice was horse when she spoke.
“Please don’t let me die out here. Please take me back.” She said crying as she finally glanced up at you.
“I-I won’t let you die love you’ll be fine...where do you live? What’s your name?” You asked applying pressure to her wound as she screamed out in pain.
“A-Ada...Ada Shelby...I don’t want to go home. Take me to my brothers.” She said frantically trying to get up.
“Hey hey easy, it’s okay I got you. Where are they aye?” You asked as you draped her arm across your shoulder and helped her walk down the dark glass-like roads.
“The betting shop on the corner. You really don’t know do you?” She asked.
“Know what Ada?” You asked, leading her up the street.
“Usually if I say the last name Shelby people run or they look at me like I killed their whole family. The Shelby’s are part of the Peaky Blinders...does that ring a bell?” She asked wincing, signaling for you to stop for a moment. As you both caught your breath, you shook your head no.
“I don’t know how you couldn’t tell but I’m not like most people. I’m not from here. I travel with my family and I come here often to find work and to sell jewelry, but other than that? I’m on the road.” You said looking at your flat shoes, nothing compared to miss Ada’s fancy heels.
“I see...what’s your name?” She asked smiling slightly.
“Y/N Y/L/N.” You said, grabbing her arm and helping her walk towards the brick building up ahead.
You led her through the doors, the scent of whiskey and cigarettes filling the dimly lit lobby.
“Polly! Tommy! All of you bastards help me please!” She said yelling as the scarf grew more saturated with blood in the short time you walked her in. She was paling and you sat her up in a nearby chair as you heard everyone running over.
“My god what happened! Arthur, John, get the first aid kit now!” She yelled as Tommy came over, a worried look on his usually stoic face. You grabbed your coat, applying pressure as Ada winced until they got back with the supplies.
“I was walking here from my apartment. Tommy, I think one of Changretta’s men got me. They had those awful tattoos on their necks. They fucking cut me and stabbed me. I can’t die not like this.” She said putting a hand on her pale forehead.
Tommy looked at her concerned, his eyes going down to you as you sat by her holding her other hand.
“Who are you?” He asked angrily.
“Y/N Y/L/N...I heard her when I was packing my jewelry stand up. I ran over to help her. I didn’t see where the men went though.” You said looking him in the eyes before helping Polly prep some gauze. You took your glove off and urged her to open her mouth.
“You’ll want to bite down on something. This is going to hurt.” You said before pouring some of the whiskey on her abdomen while Polly poured some on her arm. Ada screamed through the cloth, earning concerned glances from some of the unrelated workers in the shop. You poured more, making sure to flush out the wound before quickly threading a needle.
“I can stitch if you’d rather not go to a hospital.” You said. Polly eyed you and Ada nodded as you began. Tommy watched as you worked, neatly stitching the small puncture wound closed.
Polly gently wrapped her arm with gauze and you helped Ada up to wrap some around her waist. After that, she gave you a hug and you went to grab your coat.
“No dear, here I’ll wash these, it’s the least we can do. Thank you for saving our Ada, Y/N.” Polly said smiling.
“Of course...I couldn’t let something happen knowing I was that close.” You said, messing nervously with the gold necklaces draped around your neck.
“So you’re travelling with the other gypsies up the road aye?” Polly asked.
“Yeah. my family likes stopping here, good business since it’s busy usually.” You said.
“Oh I’m very familiar. I grew up traveling. I think I’ve seen you before...you sell the beautiful necklaces.” She said smiling, putting your nerves at ease.
“Yeah...” You said.
“C’mon we have to find them. John you get the guns, Arthur you get the ammo.” Tommy said lowly walking by you.
“Are you going after them?” You asked him. He stopped in his tracks as his eyes pierced yours. He nodded and lit a cigarette staring at you as he waited for his brothers.
“You going to kill them?” you asked.
He smirked and looked over at Ada and Polly and then back at you.
“No I’m just goin’ to see if they want to have a tea party.” He said dryly joking.
You nodded, knowing the real answer. To be honest you’d do the same if someone came after your family.
They soon left, leaving you with Polly and a groaning Ada.
“You’ve not heard of the blinders?” Polly asked gathering your blood soaked clothing. You shook your head, yet preparing yourself for her explanation of the family business.
Later that night, you were taken back to where you family was parked by one of the Shelby’s drivers. Thanking him as you were helped out of the fancy black car. Your family came out of the two vardos and ran towards you enveloping your frame in a hug and asking where you had run off to. You hesitantly told them, knowing they were more likely to know who your new acquaintances are.
Your father tensed up and so did your mother, but you reassured them and could tell they were still happy you stopped to help someone.
The next few days passed and you spent them selling various necklaces and then deciding to go into town with your parents. You all bought some supplies and various things, and then returned a few hours later. While unpacking your latest haul, you heard an oddly familiar voice outside. Carefully stepping out, you saw Ada and Tommy talking with your parents. They seemed at ease as you heard Tommy speaking with your father. As you walked up you saw Ada smile and go in for a hug. You embraced her gently to avoid ripping her stitches and then stepped back.
“Hello Y/N. We wanted to thank you.” He said smiling slightly, handing you your jacket and scarf from the previous night, no sign of blood on them. They were soft and smelled rather floral.
“Oh thank you. And it was no problem really Mr. Shelby.” You said, catching him looking at you as you glanced up from the coat in your arms.
“Call me Tommy.” He said, another small smile playing at his lips.
Your parents excused themselves knowing this was more your business than theirs, and you hugged Ada once more before waving them off.
A thought crossed your mind though, making you smirk.
“Hey Tommy!” You asked, causing him to stop with Ada, the two of them looking at you.
“How was the tea party?” You asked smirking.
“Great...a little bloody though.” He said smirking back.
You nodded and waved them off, putting on your coat and placing your scarf in one of your pockets. When you tried to pull your hand out, your fingers brushed against a piece of paper. You gently pulled it out, and opened it so you could read what it said.
“Y/N Y/L/N,
I apologize for being so frank last night. Per my aunt Polly’s request...as well as all of my sibling’s, I have written this as a thank you for saving my sister. She has been talking non-stop about the events that transpired and about you. Something about how we should meet more often and that you seem like a good fit for me? I can’t say no to her though, since she practically begged me to write this.
Therefore, since we didn’t meet in normal circumstances and since I can’t help but to agree, I’d love to ask you out. I’ll be at the shop tomorrow evening at 6. If you’re interested, I’d love for you to come by. I look forward to getting to know you and discussing the “tea party.”
~ T. S.”
You smiled at the small letter and laughing at the assumed inside joke between you two. You’d barely met the man, but if his family felt this strongly, you figured it couldn’t hurt. You’d been single for a long while, the constant travel putting a strain on any relationship you attempted to have in the past.
Tumblr media
The next day you spent the day rummaging through your various dresses, picking out a lacey white one. You slipped it on and checked your makeup in the small mirror in your vardo before heading out, wrapping your coat around your shoulders. As you made your way through the streets you eventually got to the shop and walked in nervously. It was a drastically different atmosphere compared to the other night, men were roaming about yelling out various numbers and the other women among them were typing and making calls.
You saw Polly in the distance and smiled when she saw you come in. She quickly walked over, giving you a hug.
“What are you doing here dear? Is everything alright?” She asked.
You smirked. “I’m um, here to see Tommy. I got a letter?” You said, holding it in your hand.
“Ah that. I’m glad he got to writing it. I’ll show you to his office.” She said, taking your hand.
She knocked and he answered, letting her in with you following behind.
“I have a visitor Tommy. Be good. She said nodding towards him and leaving.
Tommy smiled and stood up, eyeing you as you walked towards his desk.
“I see you got the letter...would you like a drink? I have whiskey and.....whiskey.” He said, walking over to his stash of the brown liquid and crystal glasses.
“That’s a hard one...I’m going to have to go with the whiskey.” You said smirking.
A minute later you were holding a cold glass, sipping on it as you sat in one of Tommy’s leather chairs.
“So about the tea party...I’m assuming my aunt told you about the peaky business right?” He asked.
“Yeah.” You said, fiddling with your necklace.
“Does that make you scared?” He asked. You thought for a moment, but you decided to take another chance.
“Not really. I’m here aren’t I?” You said.
He laughed lightly and took a drink, sitting down beside you.
“You said you agreed to their request of meeting me...is that true?” You asked. Tommy got up after a moment and put his hand out for you to grab.
“If it weren’t, we wouldn’t be leaving.” He said. You took his hand and laughed as he pulled you through the lobby and out the doors of the shop.
“Where the hell are we going?” You asked seeing the sun was setting over the town.
“The Garrison. I figured that it’d be more of a date if I took ya somewhere.” He said ushering you inside the pub. The smell of smoke and various alcohols filled your nostrils as you took your coat off and placed it with Tommy’s.
As you all talked the night away, you grew more drowsy and he walked you back towards your vardo. But in shock, you stood there looking at the sight before you. The wooden planks holding up the intricate structure were torn off, and the inside was destroyed. You ran over to your parents and saw them picking up pieces of clothing and random trinkets the assumed robbers left behind. When you walked back and checked your living space you saw a black cross-like design had been painted on your door.
You looked at Tommy with hot, anger filled tears in your eyes.
“Who did this? Who fucked with my family aye?” You said walking up to him and shoving him in the shoulder. He barely moved as a an angry look overcame his features as well. You stormed off and rummaged for a handgun you had in your purse, never feeling the need to use it until now.
“You know who did this don’t you. Don’t fucking lie to me Tom.” You said cocking the gun and checking the bullets. He watched you as you angrily paced, and walked over, gently placing his hand over the barrel of the gun.
“I do know. It’s the same gang that attacked Ada. We...unfortunately have a vendetta with them. But going out there and shooting random men isn’t going to stop this.” He said looking at you. You were shaking slightly at the sudden rush of emotions as the alcohol still burned through your system.
“They took almost everything from us. Where will we go? Where the hell will we live? I though you took care of them last time!” You yelled, easing the handgun down and shoving it back into your purse.
“I have a spare property down the road, you all can stay there. Don’t worry Y/N I’ll make sure they won’t live to see tomorrow.” He said before you threw him into a hug. You cried knowing your family was safe, but also at the thought of losing all you’ve worked for. Your life was in that small space and it was all gone or severely broken, and your heart was too.
“C’mon, I’ll send some men to come help them. I’ll take you to the shop, and you’ll stay there until I get back ok?” He said. You nodded and followed him to the shop, this time in a much more sullen tone.
He immediately called everyone into the meeting room and he let you sit by Polly as he spoke. You quietly told her what happened and she sighed. The rest of them you had assumed liked you after saving their sisters life and all, and so they all got ready, cocking their guns and putting on their razor caps. Ada came over to you with tears in her eyes, taking your hands in hers.
“Oh Y/N I’m so sorry to have dragged you into this.” She said. You smiled and reassured her she wasn’t at fault. As the night drug on, you discussed your new living situation and were alerted by some of Tommys men that your parents were safe. You cried with relief, sitting in the meeting room shakily. Polly came in a moment later, with some tea, knowing you needed something to calm your nerves.
“Thanks.” You said, feeling the hot steam against your lips.
“No problem. Don’t worry about him, he’ll be back. He always is.” She said staring out at the night sky through the dusty window.
You nodded, sitting there as you let your mind wander. You looked up after a long while, your eyes growing heavy, and decided to concentrate on the clock. It was almost midnight.
Before your mind could race to where your new love interest could be, he thankfully came through the doors with his brothers, as they hollered and sat their weapons down.
You stood up slowly, as you saw Tommy walk towards you. He had a cut on his forehead and a slightly busted lip.
He said nothing as he came to you, the adrenaline from the night coursing through him as he embraced you, catching you by surprise. He then kissed you, his lip burning slightly as he kissed you, but nevertheless he continued. When he stopped, you stood there gazing into his eyes.
“They’re gone. You don’t have to worry now.” He said. You nodded and hugged him again, feeling him planting a kiss on the top of your head.
“Well are you going to invite her over or are you going to fuck in the lobby?” Arthur shouted as John and the others laughed. Tommy turned around slightly and gave him a look and then turned back to you.
“Would you like to go now?” He asked.
Your cheeks heated up at his brothers remarks, but you decided to take him up on the offer. “Yeah, as a matter of fact I do.” You said, and before you knew it you where being led out to his car and driven to his house, nervously awaiting what was to come. As soon as you got to his estate, he led you through on a tour. Your eyes widened at the grandiosity of the place. You had rarely seen a place like this, only imagining them in fairytales. You looked around as he led you through, stopping lastly at the main bedroom which you assumed was his.
You had just enough time to revel at the room before he kissed you again, making you giggle slightly as he snaked his arms around your waist and nipped at your neck. As he worked his way down, he undid your dress, letting it slip down your frame as he went to lie back on the bed. You hesitantly undid his shirt and pants, slipping them off as he watched you.
“Are you sure you want to?” He asked.
“Never been so sure in my life...” You said before straddling his waist. He smirked, and kissed you as you continued your movements making him fall for you more with each second that passed.
After your night together, you decided a couple of days later on another date, more-so like a re-do since you both were more drawn to each other. As time went on, you became closer with his family, while yours acclimated to their new temporary surroundings. And over the upcoming weeks you managed to land a job with them, helping you to earn some money and helping your parents to get a new vardo to get them back on their feet. After a couple of months you had been able to attend more of the family meetings, after deciding to stay at Tommy’s place instead of travelling. And after some odd weeks later, a new gang problem arose, giving you that same fearful feeling that you had some many months ago. Before heading out, tommy cocked his gun and checked the bullets making sure each one was accounted for, and walked past you with his brothers towards the door.
“Hey you forgot something...” You said smirking as he smiled and walked towards you kissing you.
“No more tea parties alright? You be careful okay?” You said. He chuckled and winked at you before heading out the door, going out to deal with death and destruction once again. As much as you hated him being gone, you loved when he came back, and his family did too of course, especially since you’ve made him a bit nicer. As you walked back to your desk and picked up where you left of with your work, you smiled, knowing you made the right choice and took the right chances.

A/N: Get ready for some sad shit. I saw the request and this is what my mind jumped to lol. I wrote this to be set like around Season 1-ish btw.
Summary: Life and death have a way of revealing the truth within us, and it can cause things to happen at the most unexpected times. This is especially true for Thomas Shelby as he realizes not even he can stop death.
Part 1 | Part 2
Tumblr media
“Dear Thomas,
How are you? It’s been a long while and I hope you and your family are doing okay. I know this may be out of the blue, but you know I’ve never been much for planning things. You also know that I prefer getting straight to the point, so disregard any smudged writing in advance. I’m trying to keep the tears at bay while writing this, but I figured I’d burn any bridges while I still can.
I know we parted in anger but I’d love to know if you’d forgive me for how I acted. When I left during the months after you had gotten back from France, every fiber in my being wanted to stay there with you, but I couldn’t. I had no one besides you and your family and it made me feel worse, like a burden. I was so scared you’d send me away if I told you then...so I made that decision for you and I know it destroyed you.
I don’t think I’ll ever forgive myself for that, and now of all times I’m sitting here wishing I could be back there in that dirt-covered town, walking by the cut with you just like old times...but I can’t, not in this life anyway.
It saddens me greatly to know I’ll never see your face again, but for the sake of time I’ll be blunt. A couple weeks after I left, call it karma if you will, I fell more ill and went to the doctor. When I left, my suspicions were confirmed. I was pregnant.
I fought the urge to call you though and I regret that to this day, but I’m writing this now to hopefully make up for it.
I had not been with anyone else the whole time you were deployed. But if you can think back, you’ll remember our time at the Garrison and how you’d brought me home. That night stuck with me for nine months, Thomas. I had a beautiful baby girl who I named Anna. And the best part is that she has your eyes.
With all that said, I know this is a lot to take in, but I have one dying wish. You see, I’ve been diagnosed with cancer and the doctors said I have only days left to live. I’m...I’m trying so hard not to cry because I don’t want to wake the poor girl, but I can’t go on much longer and she deserves a good life...One that I can’t give her. I’d love for her to not have to go to the orphanage, as it would break my heart. So I’m asking you to do probably one of the hardest things you’ve had to do in some time, my love. I’m asking if you’d be willing to take in our Anna?
I’ve always wanted her to meet her father, and I wanted to wait until she got older to do so...but it seems life had a way of throwing off those plans as you can see.
I just wanted to let you know in case a lovely little one year old shows up at the shop soon. I’ve sent my friend here in London to take her to you after I pass. I know you may not love me anymore Tom, but I hope that whatever love is still in your heart, you can give that to our daughter. And that you can also find a place in your heart for forgiveness, I know I have.
I’m not expecting anything else, but I truly wish you the best in life, both for you and the family. I’ll think of Anna and you when I sleep tonight. That’s about as close to being in heaven as I can think of.
With all my love,
Y/N Y/L/N”
Thomas set down the letter, hands shaking as he slid his finger over the dried ink that was smudged in various spots by her tears.
He sat there with his head in his hands, tears silently falling from his eyes as the memories came flooding back.
He had just gotten the business in line, and had a good thing going with his family. Even securing a legal betting license, but just as he’d known all his life, he couldn’t get his hopes up when it came to love. Every woman he’d ever loved seemed to have an expiration date, and this one tore him to the core.
As he sat there, the rain pattered on the windows of his office at the shop. The sound only fueling the rage inside him as he came to terms with the letter.
He had thought she’d moved because she found someone new or thought she’d gone off to find a job somewhere perhaps. But he didn’t expect this. After all, he still loved her. He was never good at showing it but he truly did love her and now she was being ripped from him without even getting to say goodbye.
He took a shot from his glass at his desk and threw it in frustration, shards exploding on the ground like tiny specs of glitter.
As he watched the shards shimmer in the dim light, he remembered the fancy envelope. Frantically picking it up and seeing a small picture hanging out of the corner that he must’ve missed before.
It was of Y/N holding Anna. Y/N had a weakened look to her as she sat on the steps of her apartment in a light green dress. It was her favorite color after all, and he knew that.
She had the brightest smile despite her frail state as well and it instantly caused him to smile too. When his eyes landed on his daughter it only grew and he felt his throat tighten as he cleared his throat, trying to keep his emotions at bay.
She indeed had his striking blue eyes though, and the beautiful color of her mother’s hair. With tears threatening to fall, he noticed she had her smile too, thanking whatever gods above that she didn’t get his toothy grin.
As he admired the picture, he remembered seeing the date and a phone number scribbled on the letter, her handwriting noticeably declining compared to when she used to write him long ago during the war.
Without a second thought, he called her number hoping she’d answer. His heart stopping for a moment as he heard static on the other end before it picked up, a faint voice saying “Y/L/N Residence.” in response.
“H-Hello, I’m sorry it’s late but this is Thomas Shelby. Is Y/N there?” He asked, his voice trembling as he wiped tears from his eyes.
“I never thought you’d call...” She said.
“You sound...different.” He said.
Y/N laughed, and he swore he could feel his heart pound at the faint sound of it.
“Death does that to ya.” She said, making light of the situation.
“Y/N...I-I got your letter. I know we don’t have much time...but I love you. I do. I-I love you so fucking much okay?” He said frantically, sitting down at his desk.
“I’m not dead yet.” She lightly chuckled.
“I know...just wanted to let you know I do love you, and that I forgive you. For everything.” He said quietly.
“I thought you’d moved on Tom...But I love to you too. I’m so sorry I’ve put you through this...” she said, breathing heavily.
“Don’t you worry sweetheart. You’ve done nothing wrong. I-uhm...I haven’t moved on. I could never move on from you, Y/N...” He said, her name on his tongue like a spark. He hadn’t said her name so often in ages.
“Did you get the picture?” She asked.
“Yes. You’re beautiful. Anna is too. Beautiful just like her mother.” He said, holding the picture in his hand.
“I was so excited when she opened her eyes. I’m so glad she has yours.” She said, her voice fading a bit as she reminisced.
“And I’m glad she has your smile my love. Can’t have her running around with a smile like mine aye?” He joked.
“Oh stop.” She chuckled.
He laughed lightly as she continued, her breathing audible over the phone.
“I’m happy the letter got to you when it did. I was trying to hold out for you both.” She said, her voice thickening as tears welled up in her eyes.
“I’m happy it did too. You’re the strongest woman I know. You know that right?” He said, wiping his own tears from his eyes as he heard her crying.
“I want our Anna to grow up strong too. Have you considered my offer?” She asked.
Thomas hesitated, his hands were shaking more than they had when first reading the letter.
“Yes. I-I don’t have a nursery yet, but I’ll be able to get things sorted in no time, alright love?” He said.
Y/N sighed with relief. “Good...you don’t know how happy that makes me. I’m...I’m holding her little hand right now. She’s got a firm grip just like her daddy.” She said, sniffling.
“Good. She can rough house with Finn when she’s older.” He said.
“Just...protect her Tommy. She’s so sweet. I love her so much...” She said, her voice weakening.
“I love you, to the moon and back you hear me? Is the nurse with you?” He asked, noticing her voice changing.
“Y-yes. My friend is too. Told her to bring Anna as soon as I go. I-I’m so scared Tom...” She said, her voice cracking as she cried.
“And I love you to the moon and back too sweetheart. I just wish I could have you here with me.” She continued.
“I know you’re scared Y/N. Just hold Anna’s little hand and listen to my voice...okay? Everything will be alright. I-I promise.” He said, his own voice cracking as more tears ran down his face.
“I’ll always protect our daughter. And I’ll tell her how much you meant to me and how much you loved her. I’ll always love you. Always, to the moon and back aye?” He said.
Her breath shallowed as she answered, the last of her strength fading as she spoke.
“I love you both. To the moon...and back.” She said, taking a final breath before her eyes closed and her body went slack, including the finger that her daughter was clutching onto while lying beside her in bed.
The line was silent as Tommy listened. His heart nearly broke when he heard Anna’s cries, and her friend and the nurse sniffling as they helped around the room.
“M-Mr. Shelby? This is the nurse. I know this is hard...but would you like her ashes or would you prefer her to have a traditional burial? She never got the chance to specify.”
He wiped his tears on his sleeve and looked out the window as the rain fell, the moon shining brightly as he gazed up.
“Traditional burial. She needs to be where she’s loved. My family will be in touch as soon as we can.” He said.
“Alright. We recommend doing it soon, tomorrow perhaps. Her friend just left with Anna and will be by your shop in the morning.” She said.
“Uhm...yeah tomorrow is fine. Bring Y/N to the fields and we’ll take care of the rest. I’ll be here at the shop when Anna gets here.” He said, his mind feeling like it was about to explode.
“Alright. I will see you tomorrow Mr. Shelby.” She said.
“Alright.” He whispered before hanging up the phone.
He frantically strode over to his whiskey stash, downing a good portion of it before he ran to the shops bathroom. The mixture of suddenly ingesting all that alcohol and his frazzled nerves taking its toll.
When he composed himself, he freshened up as best he could and splashed cold water over his face, trying to wash the memories and the rush of the alcohol away.
As he made his way back to his office, he thought to call everyone. Even if they were sleeping, this was the one time he truly needed everyone in the family.
“Polly? It’s me. I’m going to need uhm...a crib...and a funeral lined up in the fields. Can you bring the crib here to the shop? I-I guess I’ll need anything baby related.” He stammered.
“Holy mother...slow down please! What are you talking about?!” She asked tiredly through the phone.
“It’s Y/N...yes...her....she left me because she was pregnant and she had the baby and she’s mine. Her name is Anna and she’ll be here in the morning. Y/N she uhm...she died. I just talked to her as she passed alright? She ended up having fucking cancer. She wrote to me and...and it was her dying wish that I take care of Anna for her. I need everyone here. This is the one thing I can’t do alone, Poll.” He said frantically.
Polly stayed silent as she processed what was said, he could hear her sniffling as she spoke.
“Christ have mercy....I’ll call everyone in. You try to get some sleep even if you’re lying on the shop floors. You can’t take care of your daughter drunk like that. I can hear it in your voice.” She said before hanging up.
Polly quickly got ready, waking up little Finn and sadly explaining to him what happened. Together they gathered an old crib from when Ada stayed over with Karl a couple nights, and she found some baby food and diapers.
Next on her list was to call Ada as she had more things at the ready, and she and the rest of the blinders were just as shocked as the news rolled in.
2 hours had passed and Tommy had forced himself to lie down with his coat draped over him on his office floor. The half empty bottle of whiskey smashed to pieces from when he’d gotten off the phone with Polly.
His eyes were blood shot and moving rapidly under his closed eyelids, dreams of coming to save Y/N from the inevitable somehow threatening his mind as he watched her disappear like a ghost. His eyes flew open though as he heard the shop doors close. His tragic slumber interrupted further by numerous heavy boots on the floor.
He sat up slowly, trying to smooth out his hair and putting his coat on as the draft from the cool night air crept in through the creaky floors and window sills.
He sat there on the floor, not having the strength to get up as Polly and the rest of his blinder brothers came into the dark room.
“Tommy...Polly told us what’s happened. I’m so sorry...” Ada said, holding a large bag of everything baby related that she could find. Little Finn held a small crib and Polly had a blanket in her arms as well as a small bag of food.
“Everything was fine a couple hours ago, I was just ‘bout to go home then I saw the letter on my desk...” He said, wishing selfishly that he could turn back time.
“Look mate...we have your back. Just tell us what ya need done and we’ll do it. It’s a family meeting after all.” John said, nervously biting the toothpick in his mouth.
“I...I spoke with the nurse. She said they recommend having the funeral tomorrow. We’re having it in the field like we usually do. It’s what she would’ve wanted probably. I couldn’t let them burn her and stuff her in some urn. She deserves better. God damn it...” He said putting his head in his hands. He’d always been the one in control. He’d always had a solid plan, a solid mode of attack, but this was something he had no control over. Just as much as life had control over death. It was all out of his hands.
“I’ll go get Johnny Dogs and the Lee’s help with all that, you stay here Tom.” John said, kissing Esme goodbye as he went out into the night.
“Oi, brother do you want me to go with him? I promise I won’t do anything this time.” Arthur said, crouching down by his brother and placing a hand on his shoulder.
“I don’t care, as long as Anna gets here safely and as long as Y/N can have a decent place to be buried in. That’s all I’m on about now. Fuck the rivalries, for one day.” He said. It wasn’t like him to stop condoning a lot of violence, but perhaps this made him have a change of heart.
He glanced at the photo she sent him, his eyes glossing over as he held it in his shaking hands.
“She has my eyes.” He said, his own filling with tears that not many of his family had seen in so long.
“She’s beautiful.” Polly said, sitting by him on the floor. Little Finn helped set the crib down and Esme and Ada helped clean up the mess Tommy had made.
“She is...” he said.

Around 4 hours later, John and some of the Lee’s returned and told them they’d gotten everything set up and Tommy had met with the nurse. She was dressed in a black dress and a black coat, and holding a silver necklace with a light green stone in it. It was Y/N’s that Tommy had given her before he went off to war.
“She wanted you to keep this, to give to Anna...she thought maybe as an 18th birthday gift would be nice...” She said, wiping a tear from her eye.
“Thank you. I’ll keep that in mind.” He said, putting the necklace in his jacket, clasping the button on the small pocket so it was secure.
As the night blurred into the morning, Polly and Esme napped in the chairs as Tommy rested his head at his desk. Finn and the rest all finding places to doze off to in various corners of the shop.
As much as Thomas hated everyone sleeping uncomfortably, he knew it was good they were here. He needed the support whether his pride liked it or not.
It was around 6 am when the nurse arrived again, letting him know Y/N’s funeral things were all set up. And it wasn’t long after that a small car pulled up. A woman with blonde hair and a black dress getting out quickly as she reached for the little girl.
Her faint cries were heard as Thomas watched from the doorway, alert and ready to do what he had to do for the coming days, and eventually years.
“Hello Mr. Shelby. My name is Jess. I was a good friend of Y/N’s. Here’s your daughter. I hope she’ll be a comfort to you.” She said quickly as she handed her to him.
He nervously cradled her into his arm as she squirmed in defiance at first. The new person holding her making her only want her mother more.
“Hey...hey...shhh. It’s alright love. It’s okay. Daddy’s here. It’s okay.” He cooed, carefully swaying a bit as he held her. As she adjusted to her new surroundings, she gradually stopped crying, her bright blue eyes opening and landing on her fathers face. Tears were coating her cheeks as she looked up at him in silence, curiously as she took in the man holding her.
“It’s okay. I promise.” He said, gently wiping her tears as he carried her inside.
Polly and the girls gasped quietly so as not to startle her too much. But she cried nonetheless, the new people overwhelming her. Tommy cooed again and gave her his finger to hold, helping her out of her crying fit.
“You’re a natural Tommy. Must’ve been all the babysitting when we were little.” Ada said, as she watched her niece slowly stop crying.
“I can only hope so.” He said, looking down at his little girl. John and Arthur and the others came near as quietly as they could, watching as she had a death grip on Tommy’s finger.
“She’s a strong little bugger. Finn you’ll have to show her the ropes ya know.” Arthur said, Finn looked on curiously at his new niece and nodded.
“Not till she’s older. We have to protect her alright, Y/N will strike me down if we don’t.” Tommy said, smiling a bit as he wondered where her soul was now.
“How about we let you be? We’ve set everything up in your office, so it should suffice until later today when you can take her home. The funeral is at noon. So everyone get home and get ready and meet at the field.” Polly said, before patting Thomas’ shoulder. He was in shock at the nights events, but his daughter luckily helped him from spiraling too far down.
The hours leading up to the funeral were spent trying to feed and change her and having Polly come back early to show him the ropes. Anna was dressed in a small black dress and wrapped in the soft blanket Polly had brought, her cries echoing throughout the shop as everyone gathered their things.
“She’s gonna be a little hell-raiser, I already know.” Polly said.
“Good. Maybe she can take over this place someday aye?” Tommy said, placing his cap on as Polly nestled her into the car with her.
“If she wants to that is.” Polly said, closing the door and looking at the little bundle. Tommy started the car and drove off towards the fields, the bonfire sending smoke into the air upon their arrival.
Tommy stopped the car and closed his eyes, taking a deep breath as he sat there.
“Are you alright? We can take a minute if you need it Tom.” Polly asked, putting her hand in his shoulder.
He wiped a stray tear from his eye and ran a hand over his face before looking back at his little girl. Her eyes wandering over him as he sat there.
“No. I’ll be fine. We’ll be fine, we just have to say goodbye that’s all.” He said, getting out of the car and gently picking up Anna.
She protested at first, her eyes welling up with tears as she looked around, but they stopped once she saw her fathers face. He was grinning slightly at her and stroking her hair, trying to make sure she was alright.
“She’s okay. She’s probably bloody overwhelmed, poor thing. It’ll be like that for a while, but you can do this Thomas.” Polly said, walking towards the field.
“We can do this right Anna? We have to say bye to mummy alright? It’ll be okay my love.” He said, her cries stopping as he walked with her in his arms and towards the wagon and the bonfire.

The smoke invaded everyone’s lungs as the flames grew around the wagon. Everyone who knew her back when they dated coming together to say some nice words or to offer up small prayers.
Tommy couldn’t say anything, fearing he’d break down, but he stood there holding their daughter, throwing a rose towards the flames and silently thinking of her. Hoping she’d watch over them while she was up there.
As the ceremony ended, he wiped a stray tear away and carried the little girl around the remains of the fire, trying to think of a plan for their new life.
Anna mumbled as he sat with her on a nearby log, giving her rose petals to play with from one of the leftover bouquets.
“Those were your mums favorite.” He said, hearing her mumbling in baby babble.
“M-mama.” She said lightly, looking out at the fire. Thomas felt his throat closing as she said it, wishing nothing more than to bring her back.
“Yes love...Mama is gone but dads got ya now love. She loved you so much...” He said, tear running down his cheek as he kissed the top of her head. She looked up at him as he held her on his lap, still gripping his hand like a security blanket and smiling like Y/N.

Over the next couple months they both grew used to each other’s company. She was babbling more and not crying as much, but she could always sense something was missing. Thomas was home more now than he’d ever been, always keeping an eye on her and taking her to the shop when he’d go to work. Everyone loved her though, as they all took turns watching the little girl.
“She’s doing so well. I know Y/N would be proud, Tommy.” Ada said, patting his shoulder as he stood at the window, looking at the night sky.
“She would aye? I’m seeing more of Y/N in her each day. Only a matter of time before she takes Finn out though.” Tommy said smirking.
“I can’t wait to see that.” Ada said, slowly walking away to do her paperwork.
Tommy walked in his office to see Finn playing with her, giving her random toys as she sat up in a chair, and watching her throw them to the side as soon as she saw her father.
She smiled her little smile and threw her hands up towards him as he walked to her, crouching down and scooping her up as she giggled.
In the silence between them he’d often look up after the long day and see the moon, hoping Y/N would be looking back at them from up there, and he’d whisper to himself that they were alright, hoping in some way she’d know they were.
