My dearest is going to the hall of fame of dramas. It's just so good.

Gil Chae and Jang Hyun are soulmates. Truly. They both are so strong and so silly even in these times. Gil Chae still dreaming about her dearest and sulking that it's not him when she woke up. Girl, you are the finest thing on that timeline and I love you for that. And Jang Hyun forgetting about the injury and straight up starting the teasing because she said "my dear". My dear. MY DEAR. MY DEAREST.

I can't talk about them anymore before I combust. Knowing that they survive at least till the penultimate episode is my solace because they're just so adorable together. All their little flirtations and teasings while surviving. It makes it more tragical actually. But it is just so good.

So I watched the first 2 eps of Blood Free last night and I’m…underwhelmed.

I love the cast. I was intrigued by the premise. But by the end of ep 2 I was like girl yikes.

Hyojoo is one of the most bland actors I’ve ever seen. I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt that it’s the writing right now. Her character doesn’t feel entirely fleshed out, especially in comparison to Jihoon’s. But even Jihoon was pretty dull. The two characters are equally stoic and mysterious and very serious but together on screen it’s just so….boring. And if someone talks about how much *chemistry* those two cardboard cutouts have together one more time I’m gonna scream.

I’m going to try rewatching it tonight. I’m hoping that maybe I’ll feel differently. Maybe my mood was off yesterday I don’t know. But I was so looking forward to this series based on the cast alone, I’d be so upset if it let me down like this.

Speaking of the cast.

The big reveal of my man Choi Youngjoon had me SCREAMING at the tv. I will at least stick around for him.

personally, re: hyewon's character, i don't think there's much to dislike about her. conversely, there's also not much to like - the issue is that she has little to no presence in the drama. her one on one conversations with taeoh are the most personality we get from her, and she appears for maybe two minutes in episode 4 alone. for the supposed female lead, her screentime, lines, and everything else are more befitting for a tertiary or secondary character. and when she's on screen, her appearance is bland and forgettable to a large degree, which i think is a mix of bad writing and perhaps more inexperienced acting (though i think it's kind of unfair to compare her as a new actor when she's starring alongside someone like ljw lol). the writers have failed to properly develop her character - some of which i think is intentional, but also, we're four episodes into a twelve episode drama and i still don't know what she wants or even what she does?

I need to get fit. I've known I needed this for a long time, but I can no longer ignore it.

In order to 'encourage' (force) myself to work out for longer, I generally choose a drama to watch while I'm on the gym equipment. If it doesn't capture my interest then this doesn't work very well, because I need a good reason to stay on that treadmill/elliptical for longer. Choosing a good drama and setting a rule that I can only watch it while working out means that I go to the gym more often, and for a bit longer.

My current drama is Dr Cha and I am loving it. I love it every single time she receives acknowledgement and every time that disgusting husband and mother-in-law of hers receive their comeuppance. I love that it's a drama about an older woman who had to give up her dreams and rediscovers them at a later age, needing to fight multiple challenges to do so - it's not been preachy so far (I'm up to the 8th episode), and it's got a nice humorous vibe to keep things light. With the subject matter and all the hidden secrets it should probably be a makjang but it's not - it's a very good show.

I do like Jeong Suk with Roy, but I'll be happy with the ending even if there's no romance between them as long as she leaves that pathetic husband and he learns his lesson.

alchemy of souls is THE kdrama, idc what anyone says. it somehow uses so many cliches in kdrama but either twists them or gives a different view on them that is so refreshing. the plot is intriguing but not convoluting or confusing to follow and the romance....i just. do not touch me. i will burst into tears.
