In the last few days, withdrawal symptoms had gotten worse, causing pain attacks from time to time, but of that magnitude? It was a first. Even when it came to minor episodes, it was never pleasant to get caught in that state and at any rate, only Cassandra had witnessed.

It was humiliating, he had only recently met again Aurora and after ten years, she was seeing him as broken and weak as she had seen him in Kinloch.

"I trust you won't tell anyone," he uttered rather coldly, "because no one knows..."

“ you don’t have to tell me anything, we can just sit here... ”, she said, "I think at this point an explanation is due," he interrupted her, hating himself for not being able to still his heart, shame growing bitter as he went on, "... and I could very much use your help right now..."

Ha! You should have seen the look on his face. I don't think anyone had ever told him that before. If I see him again, I will be sure to remind him. I think very little of him, to be honest. But Fen'Harel despises him, and with a variety of good reasons.

Though if I had to guess, I would dare say Nethra's worst offense in his eyes is that he is such a waste of potential. Such a rarity, especially now, for one of flesh to have once been a spirit- and you know how partial he is to spirits. And for what? To throw it away willingly under the heels of the ‘gods’? He seems that his ego goes unchecked but what it is really, is a deep-seated pool of inferiority. I almost pity him. He thinks the Evanuris so much above him that I'd bet you he would suckle at Falon'din's tit if it were asked of him. And you know what's more? I think if the Dread Wolf were to remind him sternly of his place, Nethra would bend his knee even to him. That is not a being of ego. That is a creature which gets off of his own weakness.”

42. What does your character want most? What do they need really badly, compulsively?

CHARACTER SOLIDIFYING meme || ALWAYS Accepting!

This is interesting because, for an addict, it’s always hard telling between what they want and what they need. The line between need and will is often blurred and I think this is the reason why - in game - Cullen needs someone who can encourage him to remain true to himself and pursue his goal of giving up taking Lyrium. I guess that’s what made me love his character in the first place: he’s clearly driven by his desire for redemption but he’s also very insecure about himself and his ability to succeed. Cullen will forsake himself if kept on Lyrium, it’s one of his possible epilogues.His biggest fear (unlike Bull who’s scared of madness) is not losing his mind - and as a consequence, himself - but rather being worthless or unworthy of forgiveness and redemption.

At first (and occasionally I still do it tbqh) I used to ignore the Inquisitor’s choice. I thought that no one with Cullen’s willpower would allow anyone to interfere with something as important as their own life. But after a while, I realized that his character actually needs other people to achieve a true rebirth. The guy who’s spent a lifetime alone struggling against memories and ghosts needs to open up to people and realize he’s not gonna make it out all by himself. This is also what will make of him an excellent listener for those Templars willing to retire from the military career.

That said, here’s what Cullen wants and needs:

What does your character want most?

Being free from his addiction and from those who have forced it on him; being free from his fears and from his past; becoming someone he can look at in the mirror.

What do they need really badly, compulsively?

Keeping everything under control, being as correct as possible (even making minor mistakes gets on his nerves), and recurrent naps to make up for his lack of sleep.

Renaldi held her now-shorter arm close to her chest, left hand and forearm gone just after the elbow. The magic that had been used to do it luckily cauterized as it worked, otherwise she’d long since died. Shock had kept her alive long enough to walk back through the eluvian and into the arms of those she’d left behind, and now her breathing was erratic as the pain and panic were starting to set in.

“Solas...” She looked up at the face of the man she loved, tears starting to well up in her eyes. She’d trusted the elf... and he was playing everyone the whole time. A trickster to the end. “He... he’s Fen’Harel. He caused all of this. Took the Anchor...” She fought the urge to faint as her body was starting to register it’s loss. “He’ll ruin us all... to bring down the Veil.”

He couldn't deny it. As much as he loved traveling with Idrilla and the others on their missions just for the sake of exploration and discovery, he sometimes found himself longing for the day to end, and for them to set up camp. The sooner they set up their tents and said their goodnights, the sooner he would have the chance to be alone with Idrilla. Away from prying eyes, he could be -more or less- freely affectionate.

Tonight was no different. Already in their tent for the night, he was pressed against her. His hand caressed her cheek and led her lips to his. He couldn't help it, he smiled against the kiss, but quickly gave another to make up for it. He traced his thumb along the curve of her jaw and when the kiss broke, moved down to her jawline. He gave a short kiss, smiled again, then gently bit before transitioning to yet another kiss.

He could feel a sort of stirring in his chest. It always happened when things between them started getting heated. It was a memory of a feeling that was literally ancient, and even somewhat primal. It was an urge to let go, to be fierce and hungry; to be his former self. He was acutely aware of it, and tempting as it was, he regarded it as a warning to proceed with caution, as another louder part of him forbade him from going too far.

kindness, strength, self-reliance, decisiveness, leadership, sense of humor, an open mind, being willing to admit having been wrong.

not very often. aveline doesn’t fall in love very easily and can go years in between relationships without even noticing how much time has passed, if she’s got enough other things important to her to keep her busy.

ツ - Can your muse speak any other language other than their main one? (Clare)

yes and no. fluently, she only speaks english / common. during her tenure as warden-commander, however, she’s devoted a LOT of time and effort into learning about dwarven culture / history / society, and also building a close working / political relationship with king bhelen and the assembly. as such has a strong command of dwarven phrases and historical terms, as well as some understanding of the written language. however, as the dwarven language isn’t spoken even by dwarves, she cannot claim that either.

she only knows a few elven words, but that’s about it. as nearly all orlesians also speak common, she’s.... frankly never bothered to learn more than a few orlesian phrases. the same applies to the first warden in weisshaupt, although since the wardens all communicate in common anyway, and because she’s almost never actually in weisshaupt, there’s been no real motivation for her to learn any ander beyond ‘hello, my name is clare, i’m a grey warden’, ‘where is there a toilet?’, and ‘how much does this cost?’

dagna is not a creative writer. she just isn’t. her strength lies in scientific writing, in which case she’s very clear and precise, and she has a particular talent for taking complex issues or concepts and translating them into layman’s terms.
