I have a head canon that by the time they meet, Levi is already starting to view himself as nothing more than a weapon, but Furlan thinks the way he fights is BEAUTIFUL. Like not even in a wow this guy is so well trained type of way. More of in a watching a trained dancer performing type of way. Levi would have such good control over every muscle in his body and I just KNOW Furlan could watch him for hours.

On the same note, I think Levi could be a really good dancer. Whether or not he ever bothered to learn, I'll leave up to you.

i think about this…

- one of Furlan’s much much more secret reasons he wants desperately for them to get out of the Underground is how much he imagines all of them flourishing; being able to fly not with a ceiling constraining them but a boundless sky. Furlan having this recurring dream about gliding effortlessly through the air, all three of them, free to go wherever they please with the means to get all they need.

but all of this is especially true in his feelings for Levi. of course Levi is amazing on the ODM gear. his movements are precise and even elegant, seemingly effortless and as instinctive as a bird using its wings. like a dancer.

- it’s not even a conscious observation when furlan feels in some instinctual way that Levi isn’t meant to be bound by the constraints the cold Underground fosters. he and Isabel are the only ones who know the best that Levi is kind, loyal, and sacrificing to a fault at his core. not only that Levi feels, but he feels deeply. but he’s had to make choices that eat away at that. that’s why Levi hides it - in order to survive.

- knowing each other intimately, Furlan is the only person who’s seen Levi up close, and specifically his eyes. Levi changes the subject or dismisses the times Furlan compliments him, which leads him to believe that Levi doesn’t think much of his appearance.

nobody knows that Levi’s eyes aren’t just light grey or silver under cover of the Underground’s darkness. but they’re blue. like an evening sky is blue, as far as Furlan knows what an evening sky looks like, and he wants to reach the surface in order to make better comparisons. and so the sunlight can make the true color of his eyes stand out with his beauty rightfully on full display.

- Levi comes off untouchable by being unapproachable stoic and intimidating. but another way that totally stuns Furlan is in how much he makes violence look like a choreographed dance that he planned, somehow. he’s just full of poise. it’s superhuman - and Levi is superhuman but that’s besides the point - the amount of control Levi has over every movement in his body and the skill to carry it out.

- and yet Levi doesn’t dance. in fact he doesn’t express himself that much at all. all dancing is is free-flowing expression you know? you can’t hide your feeling. Levi never learns how to dance.

- intimately knowing Levi carries it all to the next level. Levi’s eyes being soft and him relaxed is rare, and he never lets himself be vulnerable, but he’s still stunning in his moments of awkward romantics and this deeply buried hue of longing Levi sometimes looks at him with, bordering on something pained. the depths of Levi’s strength is one thing, but his heart is something else entirely.

Furlan is smart and pays close attention to things. sometimes when he and Levi would hold hands in private, alone, the first times it ever happened Levi would hold his hand like gripping a knife.

there is something to savor about taking Levi out of his element, and that being somewhere Levi silently agrees to let Furlan to take him. i feel like their feelings for each other would be paralyzing for Furlan at times.

Levi who can and has taken down men twice his size, but also Levi who cradles his jaw and kisses him without moving, because he wants to explore every single facet of what it’s like to kiss Furlan. unhurried, precise, thorough.

Levi creates space from others like he’s a weapon meant to be put away when it’s not being used, but when he and Furlan have a moment to be close, a slow and prolonged length of time they’re guaranteed, Levi grips his shirt or his sleeves in tight fists and doesn’t want to let go.

Levi always in control of a situation no matter how chaotic or high-stakes, being stoic at the sight of something no matter how horrible, but also becomes bashful and can barely meet Furlan’s eye when he touches him.

Levi is so unassuming and quiet as to blend into a background of conversation easily, but he can’t be silent when Furlan’s hands are roaming his thighs and hips. only he has heard some of the sounds Levi’s voice can make.

that’s beautiful, too. just like everything else.

imagine whilst they live Underground, furlan and levi accidentally-on-purpose end up bathing together. and it is LITERALLY just to save water (so furlan insists, anyway) but if levi blushes throughout, then, well, that's nobody's business ;)

i imagine communal bathing is more common in the Underground with lack of plumbing and the condition of what water there is having to be filthy. imagine the middle-ages. for the water to even resemble clean, Levi’s insistent on boiling what they're going to use first, and with personal bathrooms being reserved for hostels and brothels (probably), they’d use a simple wooden basin big enough to fit them.

so maybe they use two early on. it requires extra water, but it’s worth the privacy. but THEN hell they're ALWAYS bathing together after a certain point in their friendship. clean water is a very important resource. but obviously there's no romantic/sexual tension at alllll... they basically pretend that the other isn't there. twisting around to maintain personal space.

of fucking course it all starts with a kiss and the lovebirds start fooling around in the bath. Furlan perched in Levi's lap while he suds up Levi’s hair. the goal becomes keeping the soap out of his eyes while Levi strokes them both under the water. they were already a little hard by sheer proximity, too...

Before anytime they get filthy in the sheets, it's more productive (says Levi) to make up a bath beforehand since the task is so arduous.

Cue later. Levi slotting his knees outside Furlan's hips with two of his fingers slid inside Levi, who's whispering in Furlan's ear to fuck him again. He's still open enough for it, used up from earlier. Levi, haggling in his ear to give him just one more.

And Furlan is so quick to give in; when Levi begs, it's guaranteed. Then there they are, Furlan's fingertips working into Levi's ass while he lifts himself up and down, all relaxed and tired.

but also: Levi enjoys to an adorable extent just bathing Furlan :/ It's one way he shows affection <333 cutie.

lemme just go in-depth on all of these.......

The environment in the Underground doesn’t allow them to settle down for too long and keeps especially Levi always busy, so when they finally have a moment in private Furlan will wrap his arm around Levi’s waist real tenderly so he doesn’t startle him when he plants Levi against the wall and kisses him.

Levi likes to complain, but he’s the one tugging down on Furlan's bottom lip and pushing his tongue inside his mouth, and the tightest to cling on.

They’re just the perfect example of first loves and clueless navigating that at the same time, which means knocking their noses sometimes, teeth clacking together and refusing to pull apart until their lungs burn. Furlan is the most whipped and Levi is the neediest.

I can’t remember if this is canon or not, but it’s said Levi holds his teacups like he does because the first time he ever purchased a nice one for himself, the cheap handle broke off and shattered.

Butttt maybe something like this happened when Levi was little and it was a prized possession of Kuchel's, even though by all accounts, it was a cheap little thing. One day Levi picks it up, and it breaks. Kuchel is simply not capable of getting genuinely angry at her baby, but in a way that makes Levi feel worse, because it was important to her :( and he could tell she was upset about it. So now he has this complex about it.

I have an annccieenttt wip where this happens in front of reader long after the fact and Levi is :((( so just imagining Furlan teasing him about the way he holds his teacup until Levi is red in the face. Then Furlan bets Levi can't hold it like a normal person.

Pre-canon Levi has a bit of a pride problem sue me. So after several beats of silence and Furlan laughing at him behind his hand, he takes Furlan up on his challenge and holds it up so it's just hovering above the table.

And Furlan just bursts out laughing. "Are you kidding me? You're barely trying."

"You didn't say how high I had to hold it up."

Furlan deadpans a little. "Five seconds. And a little higher than one inch, what about that?"

Levi hesitates but in the end takes him up on it, and guess what.

The handle breaks off, and the teacup falls and shatters.

like there's no way anything of luxury exists in the Underground. Levi buys (or otherwise steals/trades LOL) the best supplies, but this happening is entirely possible and once it does the silence after that is deafening.

Furlan snaps out of the shock first, surprisingly. Levi is just sort of staring... but one of those faraway stares. Just. absent. Furlan tries to utter some kind of apology/word of comfort, but Levi doesn't react. He simply sets what's left of the handle on the table with a clink and gets what anyone would think is irrationally upset, in a silently devastated type of way. Without a word, he sweeps the shards up.

And you know Levi is going to pretend like it's nothing. He doesn't blame Furlan, either. Really it all comes down on himself because of the last time it happened, and he gets distant for the rest of the afternoon.

(god this is so long) BUT THEN later, Furlan was supposed to go out somewhere anyway, but he ends up buying (most likely stealing) this rllyyyy nice entire set of teacups from this vendor visiting the Underground. The friends Furlan is with all sort of make fun of him for this and make jabs at Levi who they assume put Furlan up to this errand. Furlan totally fucking defends Levi and maybe throws one of them to the ground before storming back to the hideout and giving Levi this present / i'm sorry gift.

And goddddd Levi highkey gets so soft about it. Mumbling about how no one told Furlan to do that, and he could've gotten himself into some shit if he got caught, but Levi also takes it and looks so precious blushing and examining the intricate designs :( it even came with saucers!! the saucers!!!! And anyway they're deeply in love the end.

as for Furlan dying in canon, i wish the OVA had included Levi’s last sight of him alive being Furlan waving goodbye. And thenLevi cutting open the Titan and doing everything he can to drag him out alive, despite him knowing full-well it’s hopeless...

But then he's shocked by that one blip of hope when Furlan appears from its guts and flesh. Levi looking visibly, desperately relieved with the rivets of rain falling down his cheeks. Only to pull Furlan the rest of the way to the ground.

There's only half of him left. His body from the waist down to be missing. Bitten in half. Guts spilled out. The only mercy possibly showed to Furlan, perhaps, that he died instantly.

aka everything that happened in the manga. (i’m evil btw)

I feel like growing up in the Underground made Furlan a light sleeper like Levi. So he twitches awake pretty quickly to Levi writhing around beside him, getting tangled in the thin blanket they share. Stress heavy in his pinched brow and his jaw grinding, whimpering.

But Furlan knows that wrapping his arms around him isn't an option. Because when Levi wakes up from that, Furlan's getting kicked or knocked back because Levi will instinctively sense someone crowding in on him like that as an attack.

So just him murmuring Levi's name while petting his hair and rubbing his back to covertly bring him a little closer. Which doesn't help because Levi starts shaking his head and moaning, "No... No...", jostling Furlan, and the ensuing struggle jolts Levi awake.

His eyes fly open. He instinctively jerks up and looks from wall to wall of the room before his attention settles on Furlan, and he remembers where, and when he is. Contrary to the dream.

And Furlan just doesn't see that type of wild terror on Levi's face often.

"Come here, Levi..." He makes himself heard over Levi's hyperventilating.

Levi sags down heavily on one arm, still cringing, and touches Furlan's face as he melts into his arms. He's covered in a cold sweat, but he just can't. "Hold on, did something happen?—Is this..."

"You're fine—we're fine," Furlan reassures him calmly. He touches his hand. "Everything's fine..."

Levi watches him for a moment longer, and finally lays his head down, though he's still rattled.

Levi simply doesn't talk about these types of things, so Furlan decides rather to reassure him now and again, embracing Levi tightly to his chest. It takes a while for him to catch his breath.

"Sorry..."

"It's okay," he whispers. "Swear... it's okay." Furlan just combs through Levi's hair with his fingers and tries to be of as much comfort as possible. Levi has nightmares often, but not usually this bad, and he just deflates... There's no saying whether Levi can go back to sleep or not, but he'd rather stay awake than dream again.

Levi is such a little guy it's precious. I don't think there's any question that he would give Furlan the clothes off his back if he really needed it tho...

But of course it's tight on the shoulders and chest, but somehow loose at the waist...

I feel like that'd be such a meaningful gesture from Levi too, giving Furlan a knife he specifically had collected / bought / had made for him :(( It's nothing decorative or anything, probably a simple blade, but that suits its exact purpose.

A little bit, Levi would be apprehensive of his reaction, his eyes constantly darting over Furlan's expression of growing gratitude for any clue to his feelings. Once Furlan grins and tells him he loves it, Levi is stoic but pleased.

It's honestly another gesture for Levi to teach him how to wield it like he would.

Lots of pinning each other down. Levi pinned underneath Furlan with his grip straining on Furlan's wrist, who's wielding the knife. In reality... it'd be effortless for Levi to turn the situation around to his favor, but he's aware nobody really compares to himself and trains Furlan within his potential instead <3

Writhing against each other. All that grunting and struggling. Levi wrestles the knife back and throws it away soon enough, but Furlan takes the advantage of surprise to kiss him until they're writhing on the floor for other reasons...

Whenever they have the privilege of time, Levi may not like it, but Furlan takes his time giving him attention. From the little knicks on Levi's toughened fingers, to the burn scars like full moons on his arms, the swooped, shallow scar below his adam's apple... down his whole body. Scars pale and old or pink like diluted blood and raised—and Furlan kissing the latter particularly touch Levi's heart in a way. They were deep, ugly wounds, and the slightest bit sensitive.

The rough reddened scar tissue on the backs of Levi's fucking ankles from wearing shoes too small for him, even. That odd freckle on his shoulder. The faint forming indentions the last few years of ODM use has inflicted on him. Everything.

A few times, Furlan has seen Levi smile the slightest bit enough to spot the one dimple that appears. Whether he gets to see it or not, Furlan is kissing it.

I just feel like Furlan and Levi are deeply, irrevocably in love with each other the way only first loves are and also boyfriends. The end.
