Tagged by @yanjing, thanks love!💕✨ • Last song: Cosmic Dancer - T. Rex (I literally just finished watching Billy Elliot and the opening credits soundtrack got stuck in my head) • Currently watching: I'm trying to finish Steven Universe after 7 years, and I'm also watching the new season of The Witcher😊 And my bf and I are gradually working our way through a box set of the old Godzilla movies (which are hilarious by the way). • Currently reading: I have three books in my rotation, though I'm an embarrassingly slow reader; Howl's moving castle, Americanah, and The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath. An eclectic mix for sure... And I'll still be reading them in a few years' time. • Currently playing: I rarely play video games but I recently enjoyed Bear and Breakfast as well as Spiritfarer! • Current obsession: First off, I've had cold tofu salad once a day this week (google Liangban tofu, it's life-changing in the summer heat). I've also been really into organizing my closet digitally, like taking a photo of every article of clothing and putting it into an app as PNGs so I can make nice outfits for myself without making a mess of my clothes😽 Lastly, I'm trying to brush up on my Japanese skills with the help of Duolingo threatening to kill my streak every day, I'm on 62 consecutive days so far and going strong💌 I'm tagging a bunch of my mutuals because I adore all of you and I love learning about your lives🥺 @muijaliisa @localbuttstuff @mantisblues @622am @volumniafox @corvus-pictor @sciencefiction-doublefeature @cowboyskissin @lawfultop @again-for-the-first-time @worldofpotsandpans @perfectlullabies And anyone else who feels like participating is of course welcome to!

Rushed lunch: liangban dofu
I was given an hour’s warning to give a quick presentation, so I had a rushed lunch as I was trying to bake bread at the same time. This was a pretty simple recipe and honestly I just mixed everything together by eyeballing the ratio.
I wonder why all the Asian sauces I bought needed to be “refrigerated after opening.” My fridge space is already so limited that I’m going to run out of space even more quickly than I anticipated.
Recipe: spicy cold tofu (liangban dofu) from the Woks of Life

Date night-Chongqiu
Chongyun had been meditating on top of a nearby mountain in Liyue, it had been a cold and rainy day so the mountain was deserted from hilichurls and people alike. He found it calming, the cold air was billowing through the quiet mountain, a few soft sprinkles of water falling down from the tree he was sitting underneath sprinkled on his face. Xingqiu on the other hand clutched the jacket closer to his body as he shivered, climbing the mountain in his best attempt to get to Chongyun before the sun set.
With a sigh of relief as he finally reached the top of the mountain Xingqiu navigated the slippery mud and slick wood making his way to Chongyun. Sitting down next to him on the bench he leaned his head on his shoulder. Chongyun opened his eyes and looked over at Xingqiu and gently wrapped an arm around him “you know it’s cold out right?” asked Chongyun and Xingqiu snickered. “Yeah I do, but I wanted to find you. I had some plans,” he smiled.
Chongyun chuckled and kissed his forehead “Well let’s get you in before you freeze, I don’t need nor want a frozen boyfriend,” Xingqiu laughed in delight as he stood up, Chongyun followed suite, holding his hand as they walked down the mountain Chongyun opened his mouth to speak “So what did you have planned for us tonight?” he asked, glancing at Xingqiu’s face, his cheeks a bright pink from the cold air. Xingqiu gave his cheeky smile as he giggled “You’ll just have to find out~” he hummed, raising his hand and booping Chongyun’s nose.
Chongyun laughed as he clutched his hand closer, “You’re absolutely freezing so I hope it’s somewhere warm, at least for you,” hummed Chongyun. Xingqiu laughed and leaned into him “Don’t worry I have everything planned out, it’ll be fun,” he smiled. Chongyun returned his smiling gaze and kissed his cheek as they walked down the mountain’s path. They walked for a few peaceful minutes as they wandered back into town. Admiring the lights and lanterns hanging up amongst the walking citizens, it was a lovely November evening and people were prepping for a small party, in celebration of a wonderful year.
Despite being a year since Rex Lapis’ death things were never the same but the people adapted well. The Qixing worked incredibly hard and made sure everyone was as comfortable as possible. Xingqiu led Chongyun through the streets, the sounds of children and adults laughing filled the cold air with a warm delight. Stopping at the Wanmin restaurant, Xingqiu sat down with Chongyun sitting nearby. Xiangling came over with a bright smile on her rose red cheeks, obviously working in the kitchen she and her father had set up some tarps and tents to make things warmer for the customers.
Xiangling gave them a warm smile as she handed them the menu, listing off the special for the day she ran back off into the kitchen with her father who was hollering for her to get back, her meal was burning. Xingqiu laughed and Chongyun chuckled as he looked at the menu “So, a date at Wanmin restaurant. Always enjoyable here,” smiled Chongyun glancing up to stare into Xingqiu’s eyes. Xingqiu glanced up and gave a bright smile “But of course! Xiangling cooks the best meals and she even prepared something special for you,” giggled Xingqiu. Chongyun laughed softly at Xingqiu’s smiling face as he reached across the table and booped his nose “I doubt it’ll be as lovely as you” he hummed happily.
Xingqiu blushed brightly and laughed loudly. Setting down his menu he reached into his satchel “So I found a new book and it’s really interesting,” he smiled as he set the book down on the table. Chongyun listened happily to Xingqiu as he explained the book's plot, characters and more, Staring lovingly into his eyes, watching them light up as he spoke about it. Torn from the story when Xiangling came with their meals setting them down. “Liangban for Chongyun and for Xingqiu a countryside delicacy,” she hummed happily, proud of her latest creations as she skipped away.
Chongyun looked down at the meal and smiled happily “Didn’t think Xiangling could cook something cold,” he chuckled, Xingqiu gave a bright smile “I asked her to give it a shot, I wanted tonight to be perfect,” he hummed picking up his chopsticks. Chongyun smiled at him “Thank you,” he gave a warm smile at him as he picked up his chopsticks as well.
After a pleasant meal Xingqiu stood and took Chongyun’s hand, he had paid in advance so they could keep moving. Chongyun happily followed after Xingqiu, they walked slowly through some of the more decorated places in Liyue harbor, the extravagant lights illuminating the dark cold night. It was truly breathtaking. Chongyun was looking around admiring the lights when suddenly Xingqiu pulled him aside and up some stairs.
Slightly shocked from the sudden movement Chongyun followed him regardless, trusting his judgement as Xingqiu pulled him towards a story-teller who was finishing setting up for his next story. After everyone settled down and Xingqiu was happily sitting in Chongyun’s lap, because there were more people then he had anticipated but was fine with this. Chongyun wrapped an arm around Xingqiu’s back to keep him held up and the other draped across Xingqiu’s legs. Xingqiu happily leaned into Chongyun’s chest as he listened to the story-teller begin his tales.
“Tonight, fine ladies and gentleman. I’ll be telling the story of the Guhua clan!” he announced, outstretching his arms in excitement. There were scattered claps across the crowd as Xingqiu blushed and put his hand to his face. Chongyun glanced down at Xingqiu’s blushing face and laughed gently kissing his forehead. They settled in to listen to the story despite Xingqiu’s bright blushing as the story-teller exasperated the tale of the mighty head of the Guhua clan.
After the story was over and Xingqiu was thoroughly exhausted from listening to stories of him acting brave Chongyun gently lifted up Xingqiu setting him down on his feet he stood and took his hand walking along the balconies towards the Bubu pharmacy led Xingqiu. Leading them up the stairs they walked towards one of the observation towers set up just on the outskirts of the property. Chongyun was looking around, the clouds were starting to scatter, exposing the twinkling stars above. Another beautiful night.
Xingqiu released Chongyun’s hand so he could climb the ladder. Chongyun following shortly after, at the top Xingqiu had set up a small little tent, warm blankets and some other things they both liked, Chongyun stared at it before laughing and pulling Xingqiu in his arms kissing him deeply. Xingqiu happily returned the kiss as they stood there for a few brief moments in a tender embrace. They slowly pulled apart from each other and Xingqiu raised his hands higher “Would you like to dance?” he asked with a soft smile.
Chongyun returned the gesture as he took his hands and they slowly waltzed together into the night, the lovely music from the town radiating out as they held each other close.
After some time of dancing, they sat down and talked about everything they could think of, new books, meditation and more. As the moon reached its peak Xingqiu yawned and leaned into Chongyun’s shoulder. “Did you like the date?” he asked softly, enjoying the silence of the night. Chongyun hummed as he kissed his forehead “I loved it, you did an amazing job dumpling,” giggled Chongyun. Xingqiu laughed loudly “Is that a jab at my love for dumplings?” he chuckled. Chongyun snickered “Oh definitely but they’ll never be as sweet as you~” hummed Chongyun.
Xingqiu chuckled as he stood up and stretched “Alright we should head home, the town is starting to settle down and we should too,” hummed Xingqiu. “One final request of the night,” hummed Chongyun standing up next to Xingqiu, he looked at him curiously as Chongyun brushed Xingqiu’s bangs aside. “Sleep with me tonight?” he smiled. Xingqiu smiled and nodded as he booped his nose “Sure~”

the expansion of unemployment to self-employed folks + the fact that all my petsitting appointments cancelled for the foreseeable future means I can apply, but wrangling the system is a nightmare. I got an email saying I was approved but my account still says my claim status is unavailable and I think all I can do about that for now is wait and see. very grateful to not be strictly depending on this money, very worried about everyone who is, very grateful to every applicant who's gotten further in the process and is hanging out on social media helping other people through it because TWC is being so damn opaque that the grapevine is the only way to get some information.
if I can get it to go through I swear I'm going to be proper responsible with most of the money but the first thing I am doing is buying something deeply frivolous. not sure what yet, but! something! I am so stressed.
fancy takeout, maybe. (the original location for the diner that my family celebrated half the occasions in my childhood at closed yesterday and I may be mourning a little.)
learned to make liangban huanggua today, do recommend, what is it about a) pickled vegetables and b) cucumber dishes that is instant magic
bff’s mom called this evening and said she just wanted to hear my voice and I nearly cried at her. I love her.
