Fuck it, weird-yet-galaxy-brain take is that Love Is War is rom-com Death Note, but not in regard to the ship that everyone thinks, and what I mean by this is that Kaguya and Miyuki are NOT the lighthearted lower-stakes rom-com version of Light and L, they're the lighthearted lower-stakes rom-com version of Near and Mello.

This is maybe gonna sound deranged but a really long time ago I saw something you wrote on this blog about saying "krilling yourself" instead of killing yourself and I've incorporated it ever since then and it's genuinely added a sprinkle of joy and silliness to my life that helps me laugh when I'm feeling not great so like. Thanks? But also bc it was so long ago I'm not completely sure if it was your blog I saw that on hence why this ask might be deranged. But I thought u should know
it's definitely a phrase I have said, that may well have been me. either way, I'm glad it's helped in some way!

Having so much fun reading umineko (sound novel version) with my lover because i can tell that we are experiencing two completely different versions of every single scene. The amount of foreshadowing and immense density of revelations that make every single character and everything anyone says come off differently is INSANE
They're also so incredibly charismatic in the vn compared to every single other adaptation (uh, except stage, i wouldn't know because i haven't watched) ryukishi's writing is sooooo exquisite, the layering of bombastic character beats with extremely realistic character traits and experiences and how that shapes them and even someone like kinzo is hard to hate due to how exciting he is when he's on screen! However rudolf is a despicable cesspit right away
Reading this especially knowing all the plot beats later on truly makes me feel like maria has to be one of the best intentionally autistic characters ever written, certainly my number one favorite character in umineko. The amount of understanding and empathy ryukishi evidently has towards her and everything to do with her really comes through battler's narrative
Spoilers beneath cut SAM DO NOT LOOK
In particular the moments that have made me so deranged were kanon saying "...even me..." after meeting battler like 😳😳😳😳 HELLO???? i know their heart skipped a beat seeing strong and handsome dumb puppy boy battler fucking help me.
Hearing krauss explicitly say "that man is already dead" had me fucking pogging like damn don't give it away already king!!! but i don't think sam caught on at all, the fantasy scenes already having started without any warning have caught him, though I have tried to gently prime him for not believing every thing shown on screen. It might be time to watch steamed hams: when they cry again because it genuinely is a masterclass example of the level of narrative fuckery when compared to the original steamed hams scene
I definitely feel like the sprites are more representational in order to serve the story than accurate depictions of what they actually look like as people- i find it really ironic that the ushiromiya siblings and their children all have red to blonde hair and shannon and kanon have dark hair when given the bloodlines of everyone involved it feels like it should be the opposite- and given the manga's depiction of sayo-
Anyways, going in, I really feel attached to the "sayo is ikuko hachijo" theory in that i feel like the episodes of umineko being tohya hachijo and ikuko hachijo, ie battler and sayo in a different context, reliving each bottle theory and going over them together. In particular, I've felt like (or want to think) there's a lot of accuracy and vibrancy in particular to Battler's thoughts and experiences, as well as Shannon and Kanon's thoughts and experiences so far that would indicate such a thing, whereas I can't help but imagine sayo would not have written kanon getting flustered by battler in the original theory and the only person who would've been capable of contributing that would be sayo themself.
Well, one way or another, it's a theory i'll cling to with my dear life unless i lose it in the process of reading the vn. I want a happy ending for these characters too much.
