Starting a new company out of Nebraska. I managed to buy this rig and trailer from my old boss for a meager amount. Plan on ripping that wing off soon as I can. Thank you to High Tide Customz for the wicked paint job.
A gimbal uses sensors and motors to stabilize and support a camera, doing what a tripod usually would if staying in one location to capture a still image.
This one-take, indoor 4K-video test shoot is a bonus if you’re into aquariums. The featured tank is a LowBoy 50 gallon planted scape, first introduced in an EARLIER POST.
a freight broker is middle man between a shipper and a freight service provider. Freight brokers have expertise in certain types of freight, such as equipment hauling on lowboys, oversize, bulk tanker, auto, or any other types of freight transportation.
Sometime in the 1990s there was a book entitled "The History of White People" and the central joke of the book was that where every other ethnic group has a proud history to draw upon, white people have mayonnaise and bad sex. There was even a special hosted by Martin Mull.
This story was written in 1959 and it seems to hit the irony button of when everyone but WASPs were proudly speaking of their heritage. The book Roots was a defiant refutation of the racist beliefs that Africa was a "dark continent" that the black people were rescued from. There was a push towards more observance within Judaism with Jewish pride on full display. In just a few short years, Jews went from hiding their Jewish identity to proudly declaring it (or using it as a joke, but nobody's perfect). Even groups that had fought to become white (or struggled for white privilege) were more interested in their history.
But WASPs? Yeah, not so much. They didn't have to struggle to reclaim their histories. Hell, those histories could be easily looked up at the local library.
What we got here is two brothers. I'm really not certain why critics are so eager to see Cheever brothers as bad and good. The unnamed narrator doesn't like his brother but what is his brother's sin, exactly? In "Farewell My Brother" the "evil brother" didn't approve of the alcoholic family. In this one the brother is too obsessed with the lowboy, a piece of furniture that the brother is obsessed with.
The narrator is mostly bemused but he doesn't exactly advertise his feelings. He wants the lowboy but he's fine with his brother getting it. He reports on his brother freaking out over a hairline fracture in a fender bender but he doesn't seem to openly mock his brother or sympathize. It's just something that happens.
Even realizing that his brother got a priceless antique does next to nothing for the narrator's emotions.
It feels like a Checkov play (the hardest play to interpret for actors) because all of the emotions are under the surface. It's only at the two set pieces that we find out the narrator's feelings.
In the first scene, the narrator describes his brother looking at the lowboy and imagining everyone who has ever owned the lowboy and every ancestor they ever shared. It's a complete fabrication, but the narrator gets more anxious about it.
The final scene is the summation of the narrator's feelings. He destroys every family heirloom in order to start fresh. He's not bound by his past and doesn't feel like he owes everything to his family.
Which is kind of the history of white people in America. They were proud of themselves once, but now they really want to forget what their ancestors of guilty of doing. But ancestry is one thing and the fact that white people still benefit from white privilege means that you must do more than destroy all your pretty glassware.
So the "evil" brother at least embraces his past, if only in the form of an antique, while the narrator pretends that he's innocent.
Friday we moved an asphalt silo and it’s pieces from Conway SC to Greenville SC. We had to stretch the low boy out to 54 feet in the well. The load weighed 66,000 lbs, 14 feet wide and 15’10 feet tall on the trailer. My overall length was 110 feet long.

Welcome back. In an earlier post I introduced aquaria / fish keeping in KEEPING A HOBBY OUTSIDE OF PHOTOGRAPHY. Photography and fish keeping are two distinct practices, however when the occasion arises, they can be combined to create visually stunning images of aquariums and their inhabitants.
THE LOWBOY.
The LOWBOY project is a planted riverscape aquarium measuring four feet long and two feet deep. It's an eco-system and style I'd been interested in for a few years. This type of shallow aquarium is often used as a frag tank for growing out corals in a saltwater environment. I thought it would also be a unique style to showcase a wide, underwater view of a freshwater planted aquascape.
FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS.
When creating images of an aquarium this length and depth, and the goal is to have the entire tank and it's contents in focus, the challenge is to actually get everything in focus.
Reflections and distortions caused by water and glass (both your aquarium's and your camera's lens), depth of field, light and the tank's geometry can impact image quality. And of course there are other creative decisions to consider. An important one is:
"Do I want to freeze frame swimming fish, or do I want to incorporate some blur to portray their movement in the water?".
PHOTOSTACKING.
In this LOWBOY photograph, eleven captures laid on top of one another, each with a different focal point, ensure focus throughout the LOWBOY is tack sharp the entire length and depth of the aquarium. Downside, or upside depending on your point of view, is that it gives the illusion of many more fish in the tank.
Creating a mood in the photograph via light emanating from the aquarium, ambient light and / or additional lighting is another consideration.
This is a fun photography project. With the holiday season upon us, some will be starting their own aquaria journey, or maintaining their existing aquarium/s. Try this technique to create beautiful images of your aquascapes.
