Pete “Maverick” Mitchell with a younger SO

- Pete met you at the Hard Deck while you were celebrating your 21st birthday with some friends, your charm and laughter that filled the room managed to fill his heart and grab his attention

- He had Penny send over a beer to you to help the pretty girl celebrate her birthday and hoped deep inside that you didn’t see him as a pervy old man

- When you looked over at who Penny said bought you the beer you were in shock! It was an attractive older gentleman with kind eyes and a small smile on his face as he sat at the bar nursing one of the same beers he had Penny send your way.

- “What’s your name?” You shout across the bar and he laughs when he shouts back “Pete, all of my buddies call me Maverick”. You two were inseparable ever since.

- You never had any doubts in your relationship, but it did take Pete a little bit to not feel ashamed of how people looked at you two. You finally sat him down and told him that if he wants to continue to ask ashamed of you that you would leave him for someone that didn’t make you feel like a dirty little secret. Now that lit a fire under him! “Sweetheart you are never going to be my dirty little secret. I love you and I just worry that people will treat you differently because you’re with an old man like me. I don’t want you to look back later and regret us.” That had you crying as you grabbed his shoulders, looked him square in the eyes, and said “Pete Mitchell you make me the happiest girl alive and I don’t want you to feel like you have to hide me anymore! I want to meet your friends and your co-workers and hang out with their girlfriends and wives.”

- Pete invited you to stop by the base for lunch one day after he finished training his class at TopGun. Hangman walked in on you giving Mav a kiss on the check. “I didn’t know you had a daughter. Sweetheart you are gorgeous, maybe you could see me when you stop by to see pops sometimes” he says with a wink. You spit out your water laughing. “I may call him daddy, but he certainly isn’t my dad” you shoot back laughing even louder when that causes Mav to choke on his sandwich and Hangman to drop his jaw to the floor and walk out.

- Word of Mav and his younger hot girlfriend spread through the members of his class at TopGun. The boys just couldn’t believe it, but Phoenix thought it was nice to know another woman in town. You and Phoenix really hit it off and often spent time joking about what a dick Hangman could be.

- Maverick decided to move permanently near base so he could stay near you after the mission. In fact when he told you he was moving you invited him to live in your house with you! It had plenty of room and your grandmother had left it to you when she passed, so it meant a lot to be adding another chapter of life to house’s history.

- You jokingly have him in your phone as “old man” and he has you in his phone as “Y/N 🙂”. You would text him pictures of dogs you saw out while at work and running errands in the beginning and slowly it turned to baby items and cute married couples you saw. Now Mav is a smart man and he could pick up on things pretty fast. “Sweetheart do you have something you want to tell me?” He as you both are curled up on the coach. “What do you mean?”, “now I may not be as tech savvy as you, but when you’re sending me photos of baby stuff and couples I’m pretty sure you’re dropping a hint” he says as he plays with your left hand. You blushes hiding your face in his neck as you mumble and answer. “What was that sweetheart? You know I can’t hear you with my old man ears when you mumble” he says as he laughs. You giggle and raise your head up long enough to pipe out “I want to marry you and get to have your cute little babies and build a family together” before quickly hiding your face in his neck again. “Well honey I thought you would never ask” he says as he leans back so he can see your face. “You’re not mad at me or think we’re moving too fast?” “Honey I love you and I knew you were the one for me when I laid my eyes on you at the Hard Deck”.

- You two get married at City Hall after deciding that neither of you needed or wanted a fancy wedding to show your love for one another. Phoenix called you miss Mav for the first few weeks noticing it made you light up like a Christmas tree.

- Ultimately Maverick would love you and make sure that you two had fun together. He would learn to care less what others thought of the two of you and he knew that if anyone said anything to you about it that his entire class at TopGun, especially Phoenix would be ready to kick their ass.

For the sake of me writing more and more and MORE angst. 🙂🙂 I present you the fic I will most likely NEVER write because this wip just caused me anxiety... 😂 No, honestly.. If anyone wants to take this plot Tribble for themselves amd go ahead and make the most painfully heartbreaking thing ever, be my guest. I'd read it, but not sure I'll ever write more than little wips...

Married Icemav, but at one point Mav is deadly sure his husband is cheating, disappearing for days, being unusually silent, not telling him where he goes, who he sees, only answering as "it's classified" over and over. He never doubted him, not like that, but now he does and damn, that hurts so much.

So he throws himself into tests and flying and everything to keep his mind away from that as long as possible.

Things just keep getting worse, though, ice receives calls at any given hour, he leaves in the dead of the night without explanation, throwing clothes on so fast, hell, even half tripping over the chair, waking Mav up. He's tempted of following, he wants to know, he wants to understand what ended wrong between them, making Ice take such a decision of cheating so blatantly. But he doesn't, because he still wants to trust him, somehow. Because something in the back of his mind tells him that Ice still loves him, and he must have valid reasons for acting that way.

Besides, Ice still is his guardian angel, keeping him out of bigger and bigger troubles with other admirals, so he must still love his husband, right?

Until he's called back at top gun, and Ice is not answering a single text he sent for a couple of days on a row, and now Mav is worried. Did something happen to him? Is he sick? Or just so damn busy? So busy not to text him? Not even a little good morning? Or goodnight? Nothing?

Well, Ice shows up at top gun too, in full uniform, but with disheveled hair and red eyes, like he spent the whole flight there crying his eyes out and just barely managed to stop. It's a sight Mav absolutely hates as he runs up to him, checks him all over, hands brushing over his face and cheeks and the dam just breaks again, and they both slid on the tarmac in front of the little daggers, and a shocked Mav too. But Ice, oh, he just can't stop sobbing so hard, so loud, so fucking desperate.

"how? How did you do it, Pete?" Mav can hear between the sobs, and he'd be damned if that doesn't break his heart despite not understanding. "when Carole passed?"

What? What about her? Ice knew well how he made it after, he was there, he stood at his side, he held him as he cried, as he lost the one who was like a sister to him. Ice knew, why was he asking now? "when goose--"

He chokes on his words, trembles, breaks into a louder sob and maybe, maybe Mav understands now, not completely, not everything, just a little little bit. But he has no answers for him, all he can do is kneel there and hold his admiral so tight, so close, until he will be ready to tell him.

At the funeral ice can't get out a single word, he should give a speech, as the higher rank between them, as the best friend. He should be the one saying a couple of words to remember Slider because he was his RIO, and they've been glued to each other since forever. But he can't.

Mav calls him the best RIO he ever flew with after Goose. One who deserved the world. The sky. Everything. One who stayed by Ice's side through everything, who looked at him with so much pride that made him, Ice husband, feel jealous. Mav is, in the end, the first to punch the wings on the coffin, even though they never called each other friends, it was left unspoken, but it was real. A pilot and his RIO, like ice and Slider. Like him and Goose.

Ice still doesn't tell him everything, just that he was there, holding his hand as life slipped away, further and further, like Mav did with Carole, just the same. And he's sorry, for not telling him, for keeping it a secret, but that's what Ron asked him to, not wanting Mav to know, because it would be too painful for him. Too much.

There's a will left, nothing official, a letter, old-fashioned, that gets delivered to Mav a couple days later, from Slider, in a crooked handwriting, trembling, and damn, it's almost painful to read it too.

"make it alright." it says, and Mav knows he's talking about Rooster, still looking out for him, still being who baby Goose called Uncle Sli. "once more, I leave my pilot in your care, he'll need you, more than ever."

But he needed you too, Ron. Mav finds himself thinking as he reads through.

"be good to him, understand him. Stay with him when he'll try to push you away, he will, I know that stubborn cat our Admiral is. Fly with him. Fly him to the sky. And when night comes show him the way back home."

He knew those words, Mav thought, holding the letter close to his chest. He nodded to the empty room, like answering a silent plea.

"I wish we had more time, Slide..."

He muttered before reading the final lines and break into a choked laughter.

"wish we had more time, Pete. It had been a honor flying with you. Until next time."

”Day 11: Paralysed” with rooster. I have to say that weirdly enough “Me before you” is my comfort movie (I pretend the ending doesn’t exist) and I think it would be interesting if it was a similar situation. Like, maybe mav and ice (I don’t even know if you ship icemav so if you don’t, just ignore ice) hire someone to cheer him up because of how depressed he is. Reader taking care of him when he has a fever and making him enjoy life without flying, it would be so cute! And if you’d be oh so merciful, he would live in the end 🙂 (please I’m begging you not to kill him, he’s my babygirl 🥺)

I haven’t seen me before you but I’m definitely going to look into it because this prompt seems really interesting.

okay it took me ages to think of the most memorable scene bc they are all important to me but there’s just something special about the opening scene of chapter 7 to me ,, like i’ve reread it so many times that it’s one of those automatic pop up things on my chrome home page that recommends sites based on how often you visit them. it’s just so nice and special and i love it so much. especially mav just freaking out and ice is just like 🙂

There are literally no Roosmav (or Goosmav or Hangmav or Hangster or Slice) podfics on AO3. How is that even possible? Is there some other site people are sharing their podfics at now like Jinjurly back in the day? Do you know any podficcers doing commissions maybe?

Podfics have never been something I personally listen to, so I have to admit that I haven't paid much attention to them in the TGM fandom. If I want to listen to a fic instead of reading it, I usually download an epub file from AO3 and upload it to a reader app and have one of Google's more authentic and human-sounding text to speech voices read it to me like an audio book.

But I assume that the lack of podfics about the various TGM ships could simply be because a podfic takes so much time and effort to make. If it's not your own fic, you have to get the author's permission to turn it into a podfic and then you have to actually read it and record it. And a lot of people probably don't have good microphones and might be shy about their accents if English isn't their first language. I know I personally would never record a podfic because I have a really thick accent and I doubt anyone would want to listen to a fic where Mav and Rooster sound Scandinavian 😂 I also get the feeling that podfics might not be that popular with the younger generation of fans, and the TGM fandom seems to have a large number of first time fandomers and people who are in their late teens and early 20s.

But I do hope that you and anyone else who likes podfics finds someone make you some! And if not, you could always be the change you want to see and make some yourself? 🙂

Some people love a quiet life. Just to have a peaceful life, because they can't with adventure; it is enough that the days and the nights are repeated. That sounds so ordinary, but some people just prefer to be at home rather than a nightclub, you know? They like to stay at home and get bored,with their spouses.

But on the other hand, some people expect adrenaline. They can't without adventure, so they like dangerous risks; Love is a game for them, a very enjoyable game. It's your decision to decide between cold versus hot.

Mav: Which one is cold, which one is hot? Can't you at least help me to decide on that?? 😔

Inspired by a discussion I had with my friend. She enjoys a very canonical read of the movies, straight outta the book. :D So she sees Maverick in a situation where he has to choose between two women, Charlie and Penny; but I adapted her ideas for GooseMav vs IceMav.

BUT I’m a Celtics girl always in my heart and soul. They pulled me in back in the day because I was in love with Rajon Rondo, but somehow they kept me - probably because it was the first team I really cared about.
