You know, if you wanted my attention, you didn’t have to go to such extremes.” 76. “You need to wake up because I can’t do this without you.” 77. “You shouldn’t have even been there!” 78. “You weren’t supposed to hear that.” 79. “You’re safe now. I’ve got you.” 80. “Teach me?” 81. “We’re in the middle of a thunderstorm and you want to stop and feel the rain?” 82. “Looks like we’ll be stuck here for a while.” 83. “Just once.” 84. “I can’t believe you talked me into this.” 85. “It’s not what it looks like.” 86. “I got you a present.” 87. “Hey! I was gonna eat that!” 88. “See, now, what that so bad?”.” 89. “You’re the best part of me.”

TSA boss doubles down on taking away health care from part-time screeners (permalink)
TSA agents handles the personal belongings and touch the bodies of millions of fliers. Part time agents don't get health-insurance. If they think they might have Covid-19, they might not be able to afford to seek care.
https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/11/politics/tsa-health-care-part-time/index.html
TSA chief David Pekoske told Congress that the Trump administration's decision to take away health-care from part time TSA employees was a good one: "I have no intention of restoring health care coverage for part-time workers. I think that was a good decision."
About 100 TSA agents have been sent home after it was believed they came into contact with Covid-19. The TSA will not try to track down passengers who also might have come into contact with sick people.

My book Radicalized is a finalist for the Canada Reads national book prize. Each of the five finalists is defended by a Canadian celeb: my champion is the amazing and articulate Akil Augustine.
Akil just appeared on the @CBC's Canada Reads podcast to give us a preview of his defense, which he will field during several nights of nationally televised debates next week.

A former top Cigna exec rebuts Joe Biden's healthcare FUD (permalink)
In a recent and important essay, Maria Farrell wrote about the road-to-Damascus conversions that ex-techies are having in which they recant the damaging product design work they did and begin to campaign against their former employers.
https://conversationalist.org/2020/03/05/the-prodigal-techbro/
Farrell noted that these techies had missed an important step in their transformation from venal attention mercenaries to noble attention freedom-fighters: they had yet to hit bottom, to truly repent their earlier sins.
They skipped like stones over the waters of privilege, and never sank, unlike so many of their victims.
Contrast those journeys with that of Wendell Potter, the former Cigna exec turned whistleblower, who has devoted decades of his life to revealing dirty tricks and lies. Potter campaigns tirelessly – and shrewdly – for Medicare for All, and is always at pains to point out that the anti-M4A talking points his adversaries parrots were all developed by him, when he was on the wrong side of history.
Take this thread, rebutting Joe Biden's FUD about M4A, delivered in the midst of a pandemic that has been worsened by the 77 million un- and underinsured people who can't get care or screening and disproportionately work in food-service and cleaning.
https://twitter.com/wendellpotter/status/1237438497218105344
As Potter points out, Biden's assertion that M4A costs $35T is just a lie. Once you factor in the savings of not paying for private healthcare, M4A SAVES at least $450B/year.
https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(19)33019-3/fulltext
Biden's plan to cap premiums on a public option at 8.5% of your income is more than double what M4A would cost you. The corporate plans Biden lionizes shackle good workers to bad employers, and put millions at risk of having their care arbitrarily withdrawn or limited. And, of course, private care doesn't cover much. Surprise bills, deductibles, co-pays, out-of-pockets… Our plan – a blue-chip employer's top-of-the-line Cigna plan – costs us $24K/year.
We're rationing our family's health care because in addition to the $20K/year we're paying out of pocket, Cigna refused to cover a pain procedure that my doc – the most-cited pain doc working in California, who runs a major university pain clinic – says I would benefit from. That procedure might let me get a good night's sleep for the first time in 15 years and allow me to live a more normal, pain-free life. But because Cigna won't cover it, it would cost $55K, which we do not have. So I'm foregoing it.

Ars Technica's Covid-19 explainer is the best resource on the pandemic (permalink)
I've been reading Beth Mole's outstanding science journalism for many years and I've always admired it, but even by the high standards of a Beth Mole explainer, this soup-to-nuts Covid-19 explainer is just spectacularly good work.
https://arstechnica.com/science/2020/03/dont-panic-the-comprehensive-ars-technica-guide-to-the-coronavirus/
Mole's calm and comprehensive coverage relies on the most reliable sources and turns the results of our best evidence-based studies into a coherent narrative, from the disease's origins to its spread to its symptoms to its resolution.
Just this symptom-by-symptom breakdown was enormously informative and filled in a huge gap that I had previously mentally signposted as "flu-like".
According to data from nearly 56,000 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patients in China, the rundown of common symptoms went as follows:
88 percent had a fever
68 percent had a dry cough
38 percent had fatigue
33 percent coughed up phlegm
19 percent had shortness of breath
15 percent had joint or muscle pain
14 percent had a sore throat
14 percent headache
11 percent had chills
5 percent had nausea or vomiting
5 percent had nasal congestion
4 percent had diarrhea
Less than one percent coughed up blood or blood-stained mucus
Less than one percent had watery eyes
The sections on transmission, self-protection, and care during a social distancing lockdown or quarantine are likewise levelheaded, clear and informative.
This is a tab you should just keep open in your browser, IOW. Mole's updating frequently, too.

Boeing is even worse at financial engineering than they are at aircraft engineering (permalink)
Boeing is experiencing a potentially terminal slump. Between losses due to its 737 Max scandal (a self-inflicted injury), and the dropoff in travel during the pandemic, it has had to draw down its entire line of credit and institute a hiring freeze.
https://wolfstreet.com/2020/03/11/boeing-crashes-as-43-billion-in-past-share-buybacks-turn-into-existential-threat
Obviously, Boeing can't be blamed for the pandemic.
But you know what is absolutely the company's fault? Its financial engineering.
Since 2013, Boeing squandered $43 billion on stock buybacks, whose sole purpose was to goose its share-price.
As Wolf Richter writes, Boeing, this "master of financial engineering – instead of aircraft engineering – blew, wasted, and incinerated $43.4 billion on buying back its own shares."
The company just had to borrow $13.825B. Its shares are down 46% since March 2019.
The entire company – a jewel of American industry – might not survive, because it focused on short-term enrichment of shareholders, rather than safe aircraft or financial prudence.
Reality has a well-known anti-capitalist bias, part MMMLVII.
Tumblr media
Senate Republicans kill emergency sick leave during pandemic (permalink)
Senate Republicans have killed emergency sick leave legislation, a move that will force millions of low-waged cleaning and food-service workers to choose between homelessness and potentially spreading Covid-19.
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/coronavirus-paid-sick-leave-us-republicans-block-senate-bill-new-york-washington-a9395821.htm
The GOP says that paid sick leave will endanger the fragile bottom lines of employers and also that the feds have no money to pay for such a thing – despite finding it easy to blow $2.3 trillion on tax-cuts for the super-rich.
https://www.politico.com/story/2018/02/28/tax-cuts-trump-gop-analysis-430781
They also found $20 BILLION in the senate's sofa cushions to give to the Pentagon, an agency whose auditor found more than a trillion dollars in off-the-books transactions in its financial records.
https://www.defensenews.com/congress/2019/12/19/pentagon-finally-gets-its-2020-budget-from-congress/
Refusing to help poor Americans stay fed and sheltered isn't just cruel, it's lethally reckless, and it demonstrates the moral hazard of oligarchic capitalism. Subsidizing sick-leave would merely afford survival to millions of Americans, after all.
Whereas the crisis that this will produce – a pandemic that is made worse and longer – will cost billions more, but that money will go to the donor-class, the Beltway Bandits whose cost-plus, no-bid contracts will transfer even more money from the poor to the wealthy.
It's disaster capitalism at its worst. The Senate GOP is dooming you and everyone you love to the risk of disease and death because preventing that risk would help millions of poor people, whereas creating the risk helps a handful of ultrarich people.

The EU's new Right to Repair rules finally come for electronics (permalink)
The EU Commission's latest "Circular Economy Action Plan" has enormous significance for Right to Repair and electronics.
https://ec.europa.eu/environment/circular-economy/pdf/new_circular_economy_action_plan.pdf
In addition to a host of eminently sensible, long overdue measures (bans on single use items and the destruction of unsold goods), there's a renewed emphasis on electronics, through the "Circular Electronics Initiative".
https://techcrunch.com/2020/03/11/european-lawmakers-propose-a-right-to-repair-for-mobiles-and-laptops/
The initiative mandates that components be reusable, repairable, and upgradable, and requires long-term software support to keep IoT devices useful for longer. These mandates – also long overdue – show that the EU is finally willing to ignore the priorities of Apple and other US Big Tech companies in favour of Europeans' rights to the long-term enjoyment of their property and the right not to drown in e-waste).

Currently writing: I'm rewriting a short story, "The Canadian Miracle," for MIT Tech Review. It's a story set in the world of my next novel, "The Lost Cause," a post-GND novel about truth and reconciliation. I'm also working on "Baby Twitter," a piece of design fiction also set in The Lost Cause's prehistory, for a British think-tank. I'm getting geared up to start work on the novel afterwards.
Currently reading: Just started Lauren Beukes's forthcoming Afterland: it's Y the Last Man plus plus, and two chapters in, it's amazeballs. Last month, I finished Andrea Bernstein's "American Oligarchs"; it's a magnificent history of the Kushner and Trump families, showing how they cheated, stole and lied their way into power. I'm getting really into Anna Weiner's memoir about tech, "Uncanny Valley." I just loaded Matt Stoller's "Goliath" onto my underwater MP3 player and I'm listening to it as I swim laps.

My Top 40 Movies of the Decade
***just my opinion***this list is not set in stone either***
1. 12 Years A Slave (2013)
What Steve McQueen has managed to do with this movie in nothing short of the best thing art is capable of. He takes the horror of humanity and turns it into a heart shattering tale of the best of humanity. A film that could have sunk easily among the brutality it contains, instead soars with Solomon’s survival. It is one of the most life-affirming, uplifting works of art I’ve ever seen. It makes you cry, it makes you shout, it makes you cheer, it makes you breathless. In short, all the things movies are best at. Not just a definitive movie, but a definitive work of art.
2. The Act of Killing (2012)
This has my vote for the best documentary film of all time. What begins as a transfixing profile of the mass murders responsible for the 1965 Indonesian genocide quickly transforms into a Brechtian nightmare as director Joshua Oppenheimer somehow convinces these men to stage scenes for a fake movie reenacting their crimes. As the film progresses you can hardly believe what you’re witnessing. Horrifying, yet you can’t look away. Oppenheimer holds your attention for every second. What’s captured for film here is truly unique, ground-breaking, soul shaking. A statement about the banality of evil as profound as Ardent’s essays.
3. The Tree of Life (2011)
Malick has reached his final form here. An organic art form, pure cinema, visual poetry, whatever you want to call it. Nothing but a movie could be this. The images he crafts here are as close to a religious experience as I’ve ever had watching a movie, and probably ever will. In exploring childhood memories, Malick’s style perfectly matches his subject manner. He use of ellipsis and fluidity mirrors the way memories flash through our heads. It is as if we are witnessing memory directly, unfiltered. This movie will move you in ways you didn’t know a movie could.
4. The Social Network (2010)
That Facebook movie? Hell yeah that facebook movie. What Fincher and Sorkin have managed to do is take what could be a standard biopic, or dull tech movie, and made it into an epic tale of betrayal, greed, friendship, coming of age, and identity. Ross and Reznor’s score pulses, as does the dialogue. This movie starts the instant you press play and it doesn’t let you catch your breath for one second until the very end. Endlessly quotable, perfected acted. A masterclass.
5. The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)
What can I say about this movie? Every shot is perfect. Every joke, beat, pan, zoom. Well, I guess I’ll say this. This movie disarms with its charm, its facade. But at its heart is a wrenching tale of loss, nostalgia, and the fleeting nature of everything, especially those we love. A jewel of a film. Anderson makes sure you’re cozy and then pulls the rug out from under you, and suddenly you’re crying.
6. The Master (2012)
Career best performances from Joaquin Phoenix and Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Lushly shot. Greenwood delivers another ground breaking score. PTA has made an aimless film about aimless characters that nevertheless is riveting. At the end, you may not know exactly how far you’ve progressed, but you’re sure glad you went on the journey.
7. Drive (2011)
This is not an action movie. It’s a love story. The now famous dream pop soundtrack. Ryan Gosling doing so much with so little. Refn’s breathtaking cinematography. Diluted dreams. Crushed hopes. Silent gazes, filled with more emotion than dialogue could ever render.
8. The Revenant (2015)
An achievement of pure cinematic insanity. I still have no idea how they got some of these shots. A brutal, thrilling story of survival among nature’s cruelty. Inarritu’s camera is like magic in this film, uncovering the previously thought not possible.
9. La La Land (2016)
A reinvention of a genre that somehow manages to have its cake and eat it too: a nostalgia trip that also subverts expectations. Right up there next to Singin’ in the Rain, in my book at least. How on earth was that only Chazelle’s second ever movie?
10. The Lighthouse (2019)
TELL ME YE FOND O ME LOBSTER! WHYD YA SPILL YOUR BEANS? IF I HAD A STEAK ID FUCK IT. That about sums it up.
11. Parasite (2019)
Bong Joon Ho has made a beautifully twisted psychological thriller that is also hilarious, touching, and a lasting commentary on class and social mobility.
12. The Florida Project (2017)
Baker’s approach of setting this story from the viewpoint of children makes it a glorious romp through a world of innocence as well as tragedy, and also makes it all the more emotionally impactful.
13. Inside Llewyn Davis (2013)
It’s all about the cat. Alongside the Coen’s mastery of dialogue and the side character, as well as the beautiful folk music, this film acts as a deeply moving portrayal of depression, and how sometimes we are our own worst enemy.
14. Moonlight (2016)
Expertly crafted. Expertly acted. Expertly shot. A gorgeously rendered coming of age story. I’m not really the person who should speak of its importance. I’ll just say: it is. Very. A movie that will stun you.
15. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
Practical! Effects! Yeah, that really is Tom Hardy swinging fifty feet off the ground on a pole as explosions go off behind him. A feminist, post-apocalypse, road trip movie brought to you by the director of Happy Feet and Babe 2. What more could you want?
16. Moonrise Kingdom (2012)
A wonderful celebration of childhood and of fantasy. Anderson crafts a world you want to return to again and again. Anyone else get jump scared when they realized Lucas Hedges was in this???
17. Arrival (2016)
I love Denis Villeneuve’s films for so many reasons. The most important I think is that he balances entertainment and artistic depth so well. Like all great scifi Arrival is not really about aliens, it’s about us.
18. Inception (2010)
A film that runs on all cyclinders. Smart, funny, jaw dropping, just plain fun. Nolan manages to build some surprisingly moving moments as well.
19. Gone Girl (2014)
Ah Fincher and his twists. Rosemund Pike at the top of her game. Ross and Reznor return with another gripping score. Around the narrative, Fincher creates a fascinating portrayal of the media and marriage, one with endless twists and turns. You never quite know where it’s headed.
20. Sicario (2015)
A second thing I love about Dennis Villeneuve: he does point of view characters better than anyone else.
21. Enemy (2014)
A third thing I love about Dennis Villeneuve: he plays with genre and narrative structure unlike anyone else working right now.
22. Incendies (2010)
A fourth thing I love about Denis Villeneuve: he’s given us some of the best female lead characters this decade.
23. Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
A fifth thing I love about Denis Villeneuve: he somehow managed make a Blade Runner sequel work. Here’s hoping for Dune.
24. The Look of Silence (2014)
The companion film of The Act of Killing. Oppenheimer does it again, this time focusing more on the victims of the genocide. Groundbreaking cinema.
25. Shame (2011)
Slow clap for Michael Fassbender. Slow clap for Carey Mulligan. Slow clap for Steven Mcqueen.
26. Hereditary (2018)
Using horror to examine mental illness and family trauma. Aster has made a new classic of genre, taking it to new heights.
27. Under The Skin (2014)
How to make a movie about an alien descended onto earth in order to capture men and engulf them in her weird black room of goo? Make a very alienation movie. Chilling. Otherworldly. Haunting.
28. Son of Saul (2015)
In making any holocaust film there’s always the risk of feeling exploitative. Nemes’s radical camera work, focusing almost entirely on the main character’s face in close up leaves this concern in the dust. The horrors enter only at the corners of the frame, while humanity is firmly centered the whole time. An important film everyone should see.
29. Whiplash (2014)
As visceral and heart pounding as the solos performed, the film as a whole is a perfectly made portrait of a obsession.
30. Amour (2012)
Haneke takes his unforgiving approach and lays bare a topic with incredible emotional depth. The result is deeply moving without ever being sentimental. I’m hard pressed to find another film about old age that is this poignant.
31. Birdman (2014)
A whirlwind of a film. A high wire act. The long takes turn it into something more akin to a play. A pretty damn good one at that.
32. Once Upon A Time In Anatolia (2011)
What’s Chekhov doing in the 21st Century? He’s in Turkey. He name is Nuri Ceylan.
33. The Favourite (2018)
Lanthimos turns down his style and turns up his humor. The result is the best of both worlds: a dark, twisted tale of power and a hilarious parody of monarchy and British costume drama.
34. Phantom Thread (2018)
PTA delivers again. What could easily have been another tired tale of the obsessive artist and the woman behind him is instead a fairy tale-ish ensnaring of two people’s ineffable pull towards each other.
35. A Hidden Life (2019)
Still fresh in my mind. Malick’s late style is given the backbone it needed in the form of a relevant tale of resistance and struggle. A meditative, prayer-like film about the power of belief.
36. Prisoners (2013)
A sixth thing I love about Denis Villeneuve: his movies have layers, but only if you look. Otherwise, the ride is pretty great as well.
37. Manchester By The Sea (2016)
A masterclass in doing less with more.
38. Foxcatcher (2014)
Bennett Miller does biopics unlike anyone else. That is to say, maybe better than anyone else working today.
39. The Witch (2015)
Eggers’s first foray into historical New England horror. A chilling commentary on the evils of puritanism.
40. The Kid With A Bike (2011)
The Dardenne brothers managed to make a gut-wrenching tale of childhood, masculinity, abandonment, the power of empathy, belonging, and redemption in 84 minutes. Here’s a suggestion. Watch this movie. Then watch it again. A better use of the same amount of time it takes to sit through The Irishman. Oh wait, no you still have 30 minutes left over.

Fantastic Four Vol 1 #117
Thur Jul 25 2019 [07:22 PM] Wack'd: Previously on the Fantastic Four [07:22 PM] Wack'd: Diablo: After 100 years I'm free! Time to conquer Earth! [07:22 PM] Wack'd: Ben: Fuck off *punches him so hard he's trapped again, then drops a castle on him* [07:22 PM] Wack'd: Diablo: After five issues I'm free! Time to conquer Ea--*falls through a frozen lake, presumably drowning* [07:22 PM] Wack'd: Diablo: After a heartfelt engagement and eight issues I'm free! Time to fuck a weddin--*gets fucked up off-panel* [07:23 PM] Bocaj: He also showed up in an Avengers story that was pretty meh [07:23 PM] Wack'd: Good to know [07:23 PM] maxwellelvis: It gave us Hank's new identity as Goliath, though. [07:23 PM] MousaThe14: Diablo, that’s the F4 villain that does magic potions, right [07:23 PM] maxwellelvis: Yeah [07:23 PM] Wack'd: He's an alchemist and also has a dragon robot [07:23 PM] maxwellelvis: He's the guy who turned Ben into a really creepy halfway version of himself [07:24 PM] MousaThe14: It’s been a time since I listened to the Fantasticast so memory isn’t the best [07:24 PM] Wack'd: We now return you to your comic book, already in progress [07:25 PM] Wack'd: Johnny has decided to go to the Inhuman City to recenter himself [07:25 PM] Wack'd: I'm sure everyone will be thrilled to see him [07:25 PM] Wack'd: *cough* [07:25 PM] maxwellelvis: "How's it going douchebag?" [07:26 PM] Bocaj: The most notable thing I think about the Avengers Diablo story is that Diablo tried to create AN ARMY OF DRAGONS MEN and also that Hank studying Dragon Man was the start of his Ultron program which thoroughly shits his life down the shitter [07:26 PM] MousaThe14: Johnny only brings good things with him [07:27 PM] MousaThe14: He’s a dummy [07:28 PM] Wack'd: PREVIOUSLY ON FANTASTIC FOUR [07:28 PM] Wack'd: Crystal: I need to go home, Johnny [07:28 PM] Wack'd: Johnny: No you don't! You're being brainwashed! [07:28 PM] Wack'd: Crystal: No I'm not [07:28 PM] Wack'd: Johnny: I'm gonna fight your family! [07:28 PM] Wack'd: Medusa: Good fuckin' luck! [07:28 PM] Wack'd: Johnny: I'm gonna burn this entire city to the ground! [07:28 PM] Wack'd: Crystal: I'M HERE BECAUSE BLACK BOLT IS DYING [07:28 PM] Wack'd: Johnny: Haha my bad. We cool? [07:28 PM] Wack'd: Crystal: We cool [07:28 PM] MousaThe14: That is so dumb [07:28 PM] maxwellelvis: He threatened to go supernova inside the city. [07:28 PM] Wack'd: I'm...not really exaggerating [07:28 PM] Wack'd: That's basically what happened [07:29 PM] Wack'd: Right down to Johnny making the conscious decision to destroy an inhabited city [07:29 PM] MousaThe14: Comics write high drama back then [07:29 PM] MousaThe14: You know how it is [07:29 PM] MousaThe14: Teen hormones run high [07:29 PM] MousaThe14: Soap opera emotions are intense [07:30 PM] MousaThe14: Sometimes you just gotta blow up a city [07:30 PM] Wack'd: Crystal did an about-face and came back with them [07:30 PM] Wack'd: She later returned to Inhuman City anyway because air pollution was killing her [07:31 PM] MousaThe14: Makes about as much sense as anything, complete with environmental message [07:32 PM] maxwellelvis: Crystal only ever seems to serve on the FF for short periods of time, probably because being the Avatar, Master of the Four Elements makes her a bit hard to write drama around. [07:32 PM] MousaThe14: They never had her be as powerful as she was [07:32 PM] Bocaj: As I said, consequences are for people without superpowers or money [07:32 PM] Bocaj: Which is a superpower [07:32 PM] Wack'd: Yeah they did! A couple of times! [07:33 PM] MousaThe14: Did they? Well that’s good. I guess they didn’t Sue her, huh [07:33 PM] Wack'd: She had the highest kill count when Mad Thinker and Puppet Master sent an army of robots after them for the 100th! [07:33 PM] MousaThe14: I thought they had [07:33 PM] Bocaj: Crystal will fuck you up [07:33 PM] maxwellelvis: Oh, it was the 100th that they had to run that gauntlet? [07:33 PM] Wack'd: She got seven named dudes on top of an entire hoard of robot Atlantans [07:33 PM] Bocaj: Crystal: "I'M THE AVATAR, YOU GOTTA DEAL WITH IT" [07:34 PM] Wack'd: So anyway Johnny arrives and immediately gets shot out of the sky, which as we've established is probably a reasonable and proportionate response [07:34 PM] MousaThe14: Indeed [07:34 PM] Wack'd: But it turns out it's because Maximus has conquered the Inhumans [07:34 PM] Wack'd: Again [07:34 PM] Bocaj: He's always up to that [07:34 PM] maxwellelvis: How typical [07:35 PM] MousaThe14: He has no other powers besides persuasion, right? [07:35 PM] maxwellelvis: Try to blow off steam by crashing at your girlfriend's place and family drama's going on over there, too [07:35 PM] Wack'd: Johnny is unimpressed by this plot twist
Tumblr media
[07:36 PM] maxwellelvis: Does Maximus still have his Schmott Guy hat? [07:36 PM] Wack'd: We've yet to find out [07:36 PM] MousaThe14: I mean, how do they allow that to happen [07:36 PM] MousaThe14: I think at this point, the royal family deserve to be conquered [07:37 PM] Wack'd: He typically has an army of loyalists with shitty powers like "being a centaur" who provide armed backup [07:37 PM] Wack'd: But as Johnny quickly proves they're not very impressive [07:37 PM] maxwellelvis: He has a very trustworthy face https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/452938861807403018/604094860819169281/clean.png [07:37 PM] maxwellelvis: They don't even warrant names most of the time. [07:37 PM] MousaThe14: I mean, when you keep getting beaten by 1 dollar store Master, you deserve to stay conquered [07:38 PM] maxwellelvis: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/452938861807403018/604095064200839170/maximus-is-pleased.png [07:38 PM] Wack'd: So it turns out, Crystal never came back to the Inhuman City
[07:38 PM] maxwellelvis: I'm telling you, it's like looking in a mirror https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/452938861807403018/604095198829477918/gilsnicehat_3200.png [07:38 PM] Wack'd: No one actually knows what happened to her and Lockjaw when they left the Baxter Building for the last time [07:39 PM] Wack'd: So we're probably not actually gonna see Maximus this issue, max, sorry [07:39 PM] maxwellelvis: Alas [07:39 PM] Wack'd: Franklin, Sue, Ben and Alicia, meanwhile, have decided on a relaxing weekend getaway at Agatha's [07:40 PM] MousaThe14: Some say Havok has the worst hat in the Marvel universe [07:40 PM] MousaThe14: And that’s because they haven’t seen this monstrosity [07:41 PM] Wack'd: Reed, Sue, and Franklin play out in the yard, while Ben--reluctantly--hangs out inside so Alicia can feel Agatha's art collection [07:41 PM] maxwellelvis: If there's anything that sums up the Jack Kirby aesthetic of character design in one image, it's Maximus in that armor. [07:42 PM] Wack'd:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[07:42 PM] Bocaj: In fairness to the Inhumans Maximus mostly gets opportunities to keep conquering them because Black Bolt insists on keeping him around because he's his brother. [07:42 PM] Bocaj: Just goes to show loyalty to family is dumb [07:43 PM] MousaThe14: Oh yeah, that’s right, Ben is terrified of the supernatural [07:43 PM] maxwellelvis: Once again, Agatha's place just makes Ben think about his stories [07:43 PM] Wack'd: For the record this is the last issue of 1971 [07:43 PM] Wack'd: And thus probably our last Dark Shadows namedrop for a good long time [07:44 PM] MousaThe14: Man, Agatha’s just got an amazing design. Gotta love a witch with that face. [07:44 PM] MousaThe14: The face of a witch you can trust with your unreasonably powerful toddler [07:45 PM] MousaThe14: I’m not being sarcastic, I think she looks great [07:45 PM] Wack'd: I love Agatha's whole vibe and will be sad when she eventually becomes more of a Avengers/Strange supporting player [07:45 PM] Wack'd: They don't deserve her [07:45 PM] MousaThe14: Awws [07:45 PM] MousaThe14: Too bad [07:45 PM] Bocaj: she's not really an Avengers supporting player [07:45 PM] Bocaj: She hangs around them briefly but only for Wanda [07:45 PM] Wack'd: She has a whole thing with--yeah [07:45 PM] maxwellelvis: She's more of a Scarlet Witch supporting-yeah [07:45 PM] Bocaj: and then fucks off out of the book when she decides Wanda has probably learned enough [07:46 PM] Wack'd: Scarlet Witch doesn't really have her own book enough for the words "Scarlet Witch supporting player" to sound right [07:46 PM] Wack'd: Anyway Johnny pushes himself to the brink of exhaustion getting back to North America so he can ask Agatha to find Crystal [07:47 PM] Wack'd:
Tumblr media
[07:48 PM] MousaThe14: So, was Lockjaw a person before the Terrigen Mists or a dog, does anyone know? [07:48 PM] Wack'd: Unfortunately the effort is too much for Agatha and all she can give Johnny is a glimpse [07:49 PM] Wack'd: MEANWHILE... [07:49 PM] Bocaj: A dog [07:50 PM] maxwellelvis: I now associate those sorts of big MEANWHILE...'s with Baywatching, so I'm almost expecting David Hasselhoff to show up cooking some sort of meat. [07:50 PM] Bocaj: There was a time when it was claimed that Lockjaw was an Inhuman person who was turned into a dog shape and made unable to talk by the terrigen mists but it was later later revealed that the Inhumans made up that story to fuck with Quicksilver [07:50 PM] Wack'd: "Meanwhile...  a dog" is accidentally correct [07:50 PM] Wack'd: Crys and Lockjaw ended up on some desolate, decimated world, a bombed-out city somewhere in space [07:52 PM] Wack'd: Turns out Doom banished Diablo here in Marvel Super-Heroes #20 so I'm just gonna...check the wiki real quick [07:52 PM] Wack'd: Okay so Diablo tried to blackmail Doom into a partnership by kidnapping Doom's childhood friend [07:52 PM] Wack'd: Doom retaliated by using the time machine to strand Diablo in a post-apocalyptic future [07:53 PM] Wack'd: Turns out Doom's childhood friend isn't suuuuuper thrilled he grew up to be a supervillain and runs off [07:53 PM] Bocaj: Doom has childhood friends he hasn't flayed into skin armor? [07:53 PM] Wack'd: Did [07:54 PM] Wack'd: Past tense [07:54 PM] Wack'd:
...unbeknownst to her, Doom had made a pact with a cabal of nether demons who offered unimaginable mystic power in exchange for the sacrifice of something of irreplaceable value — and Doom had chosen the life of the only woman who had truly loved him. Valeria was killed as the demonic spell unleashed by Doom consumed her body, her flayed skin becoming Doom's new enchanted armor [x]
[07:54 PM] Bocaj: Eesh [07:54 PM] Wack'd: I am now spoiled on a *Fantastic Four* comic from 2003 [07:55 PM] Bocaj: Wait. He named his godchild after the woman he ritualistically slaughtered to make skin armor? [07:55 PM] Bocaj: SUE DON'T LET DOOM BABYSIT ANYMORE [07:55 PM] Wack'd: Okay in fairness [07:56 PM] Wack'd: Valeria Richards was born 13 issues before Valeria Lastnameunknown got flayed [07:56 PM] Bocaj: Hm [07:56 PM] maxwellelvis: Is that right? [07:57 PM] Wack'd: Yeah [07:57 PM] Bocaj: Anyway sorry for spoiling you on a Fantastic Four comic again [07:57 PM] Wack'd: It's fine [07:57 PM] Wack'd: (Honestly I'm pretty sure I read that one and didn't realize it was the same lady from Marvel Super Heroes #20) [07:58 PM] Wack'd: Man Doom isn't even in this one, we're waaaaaaaay down a rabbit hole here [07:59 PM] Wack'd: So Diablo knocks Crystal and Lockjaw out with ALCHEMY until he can figure out how to make Lockjaw take him home, also presumably with ALECHEMY [08:00 PM] Wack'd: Meanwhile, back at the haunted house, turns out Agatha forgot to turn off the globe [08:00 PM] Wack'd: And it shows Crystal, Diablo, and Lockjaw to Johnny [08:01 PM] Wack'd: Aw jeez Diablo Princess Leiaed her!
Tumblr media
[08:03 PM] Wack'd: Now that the three of them are back in the present things are getting positively retrograde up in here
Tumblr media
[08:03 PM] Wack'd: I think we can all see where this is going [08:05 PM] Wack'd: So Diablo wants his own country so he can be Doom's equal [08:05 PM] Wack'd: And go kick his ass [08:06 PM] Wack'd: And Crystal makes the perfect fake god on account of the whole "avatar" thing [08:06 PM] Wack'd: This guy is very punchable
Tumblr media
[08:07 PM] Wack'd: "Central America! You know, all of it, I guess!"
Tumblr media
[08:08 PM] Wack'd: So this is, what, the second consecutive civil war Johnny's refused to get involved in this issue? [08:09 PM] Bocaj: Marvel is very bad at non America [08:10 PM] Wack'd: Yeeeeah [08:10 PM] Wack'd: *sigh* [08:11 PM] Wack'd: I might as well finish this arc so I don't need to look forward to more of this specific racism [08:11 PM] Wack'd: Other racism, maybe [08:11 PM] Wack'd: But not this one

★ FILL IN THE QUESTIONS AS IF YOU ARE BEING INTERVIEWED FOR AN ARTICLE AND YOU WERE YOUR MUSE.
TAGGED BY: @rogueprinceconsort
TAGGING: Anyone who feels like it.
1. WHAT IS YOUR NAME?   "Rapunzel!”
2. WHAT IS YOUR REAL NAME?   ”What? I just-- do you mean, like, with my title? Her Royal Highness, Princess Rapunzel of Corona.”
3. DO YOU KNOW WHY YOU’RE CALLED THAT? "Yes! I was named after this little purple flower that grows from the rampion plant. People keep saying I’m named after lettuce or radishes, but they don’t realize that rapunzel is the flower and rampion is the edible parts. Oh, wait. You asked why I was named that. Ummm... not really? I guess Mom and Dad just liked the sound of it!”
4. ARE YOU SINGLE OR TAKEN? “Taken! Most definitely taken.”
5. WHAT ARE YOUR POWERS AND ABILITIES? ”Wow, that’s a big question. I guess you haven’t noticed seventy feet of hair? *laughs* I have magical hair. It used to glow when I sang, and heal people, but it doesn’t do that anymore. Now, it’s unbreakable. And, I know, people are probably reading thing thinking, ‘Hey! I wish my hair was unbreakable! No more split ends!’ But I mean you can’t even cut it on purpose with scissors. Or anything, for that matter! As for what it does? Gosh, lots of things. I’m not entirely sure of what all it can do, but sometimes it... acts on its own... And I used to be able to control those black rocks you see everywhere, but that was only once, and I haven’t been able to do it since.”
6. WHAT COLOR ARE YOUR EYES? “Green, with a dash of brown in there.”
7. HAVE YOU EVER DYED YOUR HAIR? “Nope! It’s changed color on me before, on its own, though! *laughs*”
8. DO YOU HAVE ANY FAMILY MEMBERS? “My mom and dad, and Eugene of course. He’s the family that I chose. And, for that matter, Cassandra and Pascal and Maximus, too!”
9. DO YOU HAVE ANY PETS? "Not really, I have animals who are friends, but I wouldn’t call them pets, exactly.”
10. TELL ME ABOUT SOMETHING YOU DON’T LIKE. “I don’t like lemonade. I don’t know, it’s just... too bitter. I like lemons a lot, though! Lemon meringue pie, lemon cookies, you can use them to remove stains and make a room smell nice... But lemonade? Not so much.”
11. DO YOU HAVE ANY HOBBIES OR ACTIVITIES YOU DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME? "Soooo many hobbies. My biggest one is painting, but I do all kind of things. I read and knit and play musical instruments and dance and I’m always on the lookout for new activities! Every night, I take a stroll around the palace gardens with Eugene, and at least once a week we have a date away from the palace.”
12. HAVE YOU EVER HURT ANYONE BEFORE? "Oh, um... yes. And I’m so sorry it happened, but... I don’t think he forgives me. I’m not sure he ever will... Also, sometimes you have to defend yourself, you know? If they’re coming after you, it’s them or you.”
13. HAVE YOU EVER… KILLED ANYONE? "That, I can honestly say I’ve never done.”
14. WHAT KIND OF ANIMAL ARE YOU? "I’m a bird, stretching my wings and flying to freedom! Corny, huh? *laughs*”
15. NAME YOUR WORST HABITS. "I guess... I’m a people pleaser? And that sounds good, but that also means I go out of my way and make my own life much more difficult so that people will like me. I can also get really competitive. Oh! And I recently found out I’ve got a jealous streak in me!”
16. DO YOU LOOK UP TO ANYONE? ”I look up to almost everyone. Everyone’s so much taller than me! *laughs* But really, I look up to Cassandra for how tough and strong she is, and I look up to Eugene because he’s so resilient, and such a good person at heart. I look up to Pascal for his loyalty and Max for his perseverance. Really, if you take the time to get to know someone, you’re likely to find something you admire about them.”
17. GAY, STRAIGHT, OR BISEXUAL? ”Uh... I don’t... I don’t know what this question means...” “OH! Um... I don’t know! I love Eugene and I’ve only ever been sexually attracted to him, but... who knows what would have happened if things had been different, you know?”
18. DO YOU GO TO SCHOOL? "Life is school. I try to learn something new every day!”
19. DO YOU EVER WANT TO MARRY AND HAVE KIDS SOMEDAY? “Yes, very much so. Someday.”
20. DO YOU HAVE ANY FANS? ”A lot! (And I was really tempted to make a pun about the kind you wave to cool off, but I knew what you meant.)”
21. WHAT ARE YOU MOST AFRAID OF? “Oh, um... failing, I guess. Not... not for me, but for everyone who’s counting on me.”
22. WHAT DO YOU USUALLY WEAR? "Bright colors and loose skirts! Stuff I can run around in and still be comfortable.”
23. DO YOU LOVE SOMEONE? "Oh, yes. I’m very much in love with Eugene Fitzherbert.”
24. WHAT CLASS ARE YOU? "Royalty. *laughs* I feel pretentious saying it.”
25. HOW MANY FRIENDS DO YOU HAVE? "Oh gosh, lots! But I have an inner circle, a middle circle, and an outer circle, you know? I consider most people I meet to be my friend after not too long.”
26. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON PIE? "I love pie! I love backing pie and inventing new recipes and making them creatively! Plus, it smells so good, fresh out of the oven!”
27. FAVORITE DRINK? "Juice, I guess. But not lemonade.”
29. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE? "Anywhere in the world I haven’t seen yet! But I also really like the palace roof and the gardens and the stables. I like laying in fields and looking up at the stars at night. Oh, if there’s fireflies about, I’m there!”
30. ARE YOU INTERESTED IN SOMEONE? “I’m interested in everyone! Everyone has a unique perspective and story to tell!”
31. WOULD YOU RATHER SWIM IN THE LAKE OR THE OCEAN? “Hmmm... I’m more buoyant in the ocean, but feel cleaner coming out of a lake...”
32. WHAT’S YOUR ‘TYPE’? “Type? Type of what? ... ... Oh! Eugene is my type!”
33. ANY FETISHES? “I think I have one... But I’m not sure it counts as a fetish so much as a turn on.”
34. TOP OR BOTTOM? DOMINANT OR SUBMISSIVE? “All of the above! It depends upon the mood I’m in!”
35. CAMPING, OR INDOORS? “Camping! I’ve spent way too much time indoors.”
36. ARE YOU WAITING FOR THIS INTERVIEW TO BE OVER? “Not really! I like telling people about myself!”

Muse Questionnaire
Rules: Pick one of your muses and fill in the questions/statements as if you were your muse. Repost, don’t reblog.
Tagged by: @sturmazing smooches Tagging: ayyyy do this ok
1. What is your name?    Bonbon Charbonneau.
1.1 What is your real name?     It is as I have said.
2. Do you know why you were called that?     I was named after my grandmother... Not that I’ve ever met her. I wonder if we’re alike---more than visually, I mean.
3. Are you single or taken?     I’m happily taken.
4. Have any abilities or powers?    I don’t... know. I’ve shattered glass yelling. And someone’s eardrums. And that same someone’s entire life. It’s kind of... scary.
5. Stop being a Mary Sue!     Um, excuse you. A Mary Sue only applies to literature. And usually, only bad writers really write those. And honestly? Everyone’s a Mary Sue, okay? I’ve read sooo many books to come to understand that. Your favorite protagonist? They’re a Mary Sue. Every single one of them. So... silence your tongue, before I remove it from your mouth. Like, there was this one person who like, was fixated with making their character and Handsome Jack madly in love with one another and like, he’s not even that kind of guy, can you believe that---
6. What’s your eye color?     Lilac. Although my pupils are a different story.
7. How about your hair color?    A really pale pink. My grandmother was as light as me, I think.
8. Have you any family members?    My mother and my father. Sonya and Andy, too.
9. Oh? What about pets?    Oooh! I’d really love a pet! Any kind, really! Just something to keep me company...
10. That’s cool I guess, now tell me about something you don’t like.     I’d sooner eat a Nautilus than go near Mahi-Mahi. Any body of water. Honestly, ugh.
11. Do you have any hobbies/activities you like doing?    I love to dance. Singing especially. It’s just really relieving. It’s just a little hard to find anywhere I can sing without being caught by someone.
12. Ever hurt anyone before?     Mhmm.
13. Ever….killed anyone before?    [ Her shoulders droop, her bottom lip hanging ajar as circular brows sink down with the rest of her body. ]
14. What kind of animal are you?    I’m a Bobtail squid. But I’d like to be anything else, honestly---
15. Name your worst habits    I... At a time so long ago, I would’ve said I had none. [ Closes her eyes. ] I bite my nails, still. When I’m nervous, I’ll just... munch on them. It hurts my fingers a lot, but I can’t help it. It’s a little better than pinching at my skin, or pulling on my tentacles. I guess if not those, I do... have maybe a li-ttle lying habit.
16. Do you look up to anyone at all?    No. Not anymore.
17. Gay, straight, or bisexual?     If they have a good personality, I’ll like them.
18. Do you go to school?     I still keep up with my education, but I never went to school with others. My parents didn’t think it was a good idea. I was home-schooled by fancy, pompous professors. I wonder a lot about how things could’ve been...
19. Do you ever want to marry and have kids one day?    I’d really like that. I don’t know about the kids, though. I... I don’t know if I’d be a very good mother.
20. Do you have any fanboys/fangirls?    I’ve been asked to bite people in place of an autograph. I’m very concerned about the state of my fans.
21. What are you most afraid of?    ...the sound of silence.
22. What do you usually wear?     Oooh! I love frilly, flowy things. I just love the idea of things trailing behind me! Ribbons, skirts---anything! I love to see my shadow as they majestically tail me...
23. Do you love someone?    [ Her face warms as coquettish eyes meet with the ground. ] I do.
24. Well, it’s not over yet!    ...okay?
25. What class are you? (high class, middle class, low class)     High. Very high.
26. How many friends do you have?    I don’t really have many. I prefer to keep to very few.
27. What are your thoughts on pie?     Oh! It’s very yummy, but kind of messy. I love the spillage, though. It’s so nice to just... lick right off your plate! When no one’s looking, anyway. I like the kind of pies that don’t have a thick filling, though---the ones that you can just spoon right up!
28. Favorite drink?     I like strawberry flavored things. Max got me one when we first met. The way he got it was, uh, a tad unconventional, though.
29. What’s your favorite place?     There’s... this little hill me and Dustin have, and... it’s just really nice to stargaze, there. I’ve fallen asleep multiple times out there, sleeping beneath a curtain of stars, in a bed of grass, under a warm, cozy comforter.
30. Are you interested in someone?     You’ve lost me.
31. Would you rather swim in the lake or the ocean?    MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMNO---
32. What’s your type?    I... don’t follow? Type of what?
33. Camping or indoors?      Camping!

for the ask meme: all of them, but if thats too much maybe just the last 10?

[YEAH over a darkwing duck episode]26: What colour is the shirt you are wearing? [Grey. It has Mickey mouse on it!]27: Do people ever call you by your last name? [No it was my great grandma lol]31: Who was your last call/text message from? [Call: red cross asking for my blood. Text: raven saying “dang”]32: Are you mad at anyone? [Not really? I don’t get angry very easily at all]33: Have you ever kissed someone older than you? [When I was a freshman I was dating a junior]34: How old will the last person you kissed be on his/her next birthday? [My great grandma! 88 I think]35: How many more days until your birthday? [LIKE a whole entire year. August 2nd]36: Do you have any summer plans yet? [Help my friend after her spine surgery p much. Visit family around the 4th of july]37: Do you have any good friends of the opposite sex? [I have tons of girl friends!! [Lmfao yeah but don’t hold your breath I’m awful at relationships]43: How many people have you had real, strong feelings for since high school ended? [My ex and bff dksdkdiajsai kill Me. [Septum]45: Do you believe exes can be friends? [Yeah!!!!! I just reconnected with my ex from freshmen year and he’s cool]46: Do you regret anything? [Times where my mouth moved before my head could think and I hurt someone I cared about. Times where I didn’t listen. Times where I hesitated. But the past is a different country, and I try not to waste the present lamenting what I could’ve done.]47: Honestly, what’s on your mind right now? [Home. And the mistakes I’ve made.]48: Did you ever lose a best friend? [Yeah. She moved away and we just… talked less, and less, and less.]49: Was your last kiss a mistake? [Nah it was my great grandma]50: Why aren’t you pursuing the person you like? [They have a bf and also dont like me plus im unlovable and bad at relationships and feelings *shrug emoji* the other person I’m interested in lives too far away and also doesn’t like me like that]51: Has the last person you kissed ever seen you cry? My favorite 40 games of all-time
Made an arbitrary list of my favorite games of all-time cause I wanted to figure out where Breath of the Wild is on it. It’s, uh, pretty high. Assload of text below the break.
40: Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow I'm not the world's biggest Symphony of the Night fan (outside of the incredible soundtrack) and I think this is where Iga's seamless platformers found their footing.
39: Call of Juarez: Gunslinger I love goofy, experimental games like this and Far Cry: Blood Dragon, but I think the schtick in this (an unreliable narrator bragging about their heroic exploits) works better than Blood Dragon's dorky 80s nostalgia.
38: Rayman Origins A beautiful platformer with incredible level design. The music for the diabolical secret level is seared into my memory.
37: Cibele A short, story-centric indie game that captures the essence of playing MMOs in the mid-2000s and long-distance relationships. The awkward conversations in this game made me think about my WoW years for an entire weekend.
36: Mario Kart Wii It's not technically the "best" Mario Kart, but I actually enjoyed the motorcycles and I have fond memories of crushing my brother while we downed beers and talked shit.
35: Guild of Dungeoneering I'm usually not super into "We made X game, but added CARDS!" even though I love card games, but they nailed the loop here. I vaguely remember one of the decks being super busted, though.
34: Tropico 4 Adding a political slant to Sim City by making you the leader of a banana republic was just the slant to that formula I was looking for, and I lost a weekend circa New Year's '13 just delving into this hard.
33: Gran Turismo 2 My brother bought a PS1 off a friend when they upgraded to a PS2, and I grabbed a copy of this cheaply at the local EB Games. Once I wrapped my mind around the simulation, upgrading cars and havin fun with them here might have more to do with me being somewhat of a car person than anything else.
32: Metal Gear Solid 4 I should really put the whole series on here, but MGS4 deserves special note for making the core stealth actually fun and somehow tying all the loose ends of the insane plot together while dialing up the insanity even further.
31: Sim City 2000 I figured out how to make a 50,000 person city when I was like, 8. I still have no fucking idea how I did this. It took me till my 20s to crack 100k.
30: Pokemon Black/White People are torn on this game, but the contentious design decision to hide the old Pokemon in the postgame made every new encounter incredibly exciting in a way the series hadn't been since the orignals. The writing also shows signs of the maturity that Sun/Moon would follow through with.
29: Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 I think most would deride this series as a soulless Pokemon cash-grab on the surface, but they're actually roguelikes with a crazy monster breeding system and the most rote of stories to get you into the core loop of exploring new keys to breed ever crazier monsters.
28: Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls Diablo 3 vanilla's reliance on the auction house created design issues that were hard to look past, but Blizzard abandoning it for the expansion made the game into an incredible dungeon crawler. I never laddered, but had fun for hundreds of hours chasing loot with friends.
27: Fallout 3 I'll never forget the feeling of walking out of the vault for the first time, and feeling like I could go anywhere. I also think this is the only Bethesda game that regularly pays off when exploring - weird shit like the Republic of Dave or the man stuck in the tree are fantastic rewards for poking at the less inhabited edges of the map.
26: Bassin's Black Bass featuring Hank Parker I'm honestly wondering if the rest of the world has picked up on this game's low-key genius since I saw it for 15 bucks at a retro game store recently, but this game's arcadey fishing is incredibly satisfying and snappy. It has some major, obvious, irritating mechanical issues, but the core gameplay loop is so good I don't care.
25: Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor I still remember my nemesis. This motherfucker was right at the beginning of the game, inside the first quest area, and was like level 5 or 6, but had a defensive ability that made it harder for me to gank him easily. So he killed me. Twice. And leveled up each time, becoming a level 12 badass who could literally sniff me out when I hid. But he was weak to fire, and I lured him to a campfire and set him ablaze, getting my revenge.
24: Super Metroid I feel like most people would have this game higher on the list, but I think the controls are floaty and Meridia is overly confusing. The rest of the game is incredible and I can't believe they pulled it off on a Super Nintendo.
23: Pokemon Sun/Moon After XY and ORAS were disapointments I was cool on Pokemon, but Sun/Moon challenged a ton of series conventions and got a lot right in the process. I can't believe how deftly this game handles dysfunctional families.
22: A Link Between Worlds This was Nintendo's hit at what was to come with Zelda - a smart, experimental take on the franchise that's easily its best 2d outing.
21: Muramasa: The Demon Blade Vanillaware's magnum opus, a gorgeous Metroidvania where everything is hand-painted. The combat's loop of mixing launchers with sword management is also incredibly fun, if not particularly deep. But fuck I loved looking at it so much and it felt good.
20: The Walking Dead Only time a video game made me cry.
19: Banjo-Kazooie The only 3d collect-a-thon platformer from that era that still holds up, it combines cheeky humor and an incredible soundtrack to craft a world that's always surprising.
18: Borderlands 2 is better crafted, but I enjoyed the dry wit and more grounded guns of the first. I've replayed this like 4 times and I'm not entirely sure why, but I have a blast each time.
17: Doom (2016) Apparently the secret to making this license work in a modern context is to give Halo combat arenas a healthy dose of cocaine and play Meshuggah riffs over it. It so fucking works.
16: Saints Row: The Third I think the writing in GTA is usually sophomoric at best and its attempts at commentary are eye-roll worthy, but having a game say "FUCK IT" and just Mel Brooks that experience is such a wonderful idea. It's also hard to pull off, and SR3 totally sticks the landing (unlike the sequel).
15: Super Mario World The best traditional Mario game. I replayed it recently, and it struck me how much secret exits add to the level design versus 3, and how freed Koji Kondo is by the new hardware. The castle music's classical overture sticks out.
14: Monster Hunter 4 I liked Monster Hunter 3's various iterations but I hated swimming. Taking out swimming and replacing it  with mounting was enough for me to sink hundreds of hours. I actively avoided getting Generations because I knew it would interfere with school.
13: Mario Golf (GBC) The perfect portable game. Golf works well on the platform, and adding basic RPG hooks was enough to make a rote story totally engaging.
12: Super Mario Maker I think the real triumph of Mario Maker isn't the levels (which are usually terrible), it's how Nintendo imparted the feeling of being creative in such an easily digestible and satisfying way. It's an achievement that ascends past Mario design (which still works here) into something greater and more profound.
11: Hearthstone I fucking hate this game and I keep playing it because the Arena is like literal fucking crack and every time I have an opponent at 1 life and they beat me they can eat fucking dicks.
10: Super Mario RPG Clever writing and a strange world grabbed me way harder than Intelligent System's later Paper Mario games. It's too easy and doesn't look as slick now, but the writing still holds up.
09: Mass Effect Trilogy You can't really separate these, as the experience that makes Mass Effect great was carrying your Shepard and their decisions from one game to the next. Everyone will remember Garrus, Wrex, and co. Shame about the ending.
08: Tetris I am weirdly good at Tetris. I know what a T-Spin is. I sank hundreds of hours into it on Facebook. I don't regret it.
07: Persona 4 Describe a game to me as a mix of a J-RPG and a slice-of-life anime and I'll run to the hills, so the fact this game's sharp, mature writing and "just one more day" calendar mechanic combined into one of my favorite games of all-time is a shock. They also put in Pokemon with fucking demons, how cool is that shit?
06: Ocarina of Time I can't believe this game came out in 1998. The world is still fun to traverse, and the dungeon design (especially as an adult) still holds up at the top of action-adventure puzzle design.
05: Magic: the Gathering I wish it was less expensive otherwise it'd be higher.
04: Breath of the Wild I can't believe Nintendo reinvented the wheel so well that I'm putting the game so high on the list. Every design decision in this game is carefully considered to make exploring this iteration of Hyrule that much more satisfying. And its incredibly clever chemistry engine, where every object in the game has chemical properties that can be manipulated as well as physics, creates a ton of emergent gameplay scenarios where you're constantly asking "Can I do that?" and the game almost never lets you down.
03: World of Warcraft Sometimes I regret the 4000 hours I spent in Azeroth, but I'd have a hard time giving up the friends I made there. I could probably shred and like, speak another language though.
02: Pokemon Red I was the perfect age for Pokemon mania, and the fact that the core game was literally designed to appeal to me didn't help. I still love collecting the things and min/maxing ways to beat the Elite 4 with minimal grinding.
01: Mega Man X I think this is literally the perfect platformer. Moving X feels incredible. There's nothing in any of the levels I think is out of place. The soundtrack is a masterpiece. And the game's hidden secret is so insane you'd probably call bullshit on any kid who told it to you at recess. I'm really glad the rest of the world picked up on it after Arin Hanson did a Sequelitis about it, because I've been beating this drum for decades.

Some nephilim seed, probably lemurian or something, who cares. This is shit, and it's evil. Because those ancient civilizations they were less than humanity in spiritual evolution and were science based not witchcraft based.  It's amazing how those jesuite Satanists did communism and Nazism and WWII. But it's all about being a Christian and evolving technologically. IT's known that symbols have certain energetic representation, its a result of the way metaphysics work in the universe, and they use those things and demonic spirits to do magic, but it's science that overruns all. Those reptilians are really Satanists so anything connected to them is a failure, having dumb communist ruining their countries representing Switzerland to me, it's a failed system obviously. Those pyramids look to be fake to me, hollow you know :). The fact that you build pyramids doesn't mean you know science. And the egregor they can stick up their ass. They have no style.
