I have made
a man!!
My friends and I are doing a mech rpg and he’s the pilot.
His name is Veles and he’s got no money but he does have significant medical needs. So the arm is donated, the scars are too big, and the nose healed broken. I bet he pierced his own damn ears.

Spike Shepard: 846030: The Chaos War of '59
(By Spike Shepard: 846030) The Chaos War of '59 We all knew a second Chaos War was coming. The previous war had been weighed and measured. It had been found wanting. But, for some reason, the powers that be decided that another Chaos War was a great idea. On the whole, the first chaos war had been a mess. Absent pilots, pilots who didn't want to be there who had not entered but found themselves thrown into the cut and thrust of the battle mercilessly and without a choice. Some pilots simply had never been in a war and it showed. Futile attacks over and over again against opponents they were never going to beat. I called it many things Crap Wars (due to it being likened to a casino crap shoot) was my personal favourite as I worked on more than one level. Yes, it had been bad. Yes, somehow my Chaos Clan had managed a silver (simply because other clans were worse off, not because we were any good). So the general hope was that this Chaos War was the one to finally live up to it's initial billing. We hoped..... First off we were promised that this time, only pilots who opted in would participate. The first issue I personally encountered was that I was automatically entered and had no 'choice'. I took it as a mistake as personally I wanted to sit it out. Ask my clan and they'll hopefully remove my choice language at not only being auto-entered but also that I couldn't post in the players page to be removed. I initially thought that maybe it was just me but others have come forward who were just thrown into the mix without their consent. The prime example of this was a message from WS Cal (a pilot in our clan) who sent me a message asking to be removed and he did not enter this War. He was none too impressed when I directed him to the powers that be! If it wasn't bad enough that we were a pilot down before a shot was fired, we were then further screwed about by the division listings. First we were in division 5 with 3 other clans. With 24 hours to go we were suddenly in Division 2 in a group with 7 other clans. WTF? Was my comment. It was already clear that this Chaos War had not learnt anything from it's previous outing. When the starting horn did finally sound we only had 6 active pilots out of 8. Jerry Moon was missing, his mechs were nowhere in sight and I was even starting to question why I had accepted the leadership from Sten. I'm used to active clans, if we have 8 pilots we're all active and all know the plan. Blackwatch are not the clan we are because were all niode, pay to play, etc, etc. We're good because we are experienced, communicate and know and respect our limits. We don't hit unless we know we can win! A not sure or a 50-50 will be a big NO NO for us. We win because we don't give away stupid D wins. But this goes out of the window in Chaos War. You're stuck with inactive pilots who haven't signed up for the event in the first place. Pilots who don't understand a specialisation in any aspect and will attack at will! Even when there's a 100% chance of losing. Yeah, look at our Clan 'The First Order' in Division 2. You'll see my pet hate of pilots who just attack anyone even when there is no chance of getting the win! Some will say that's chaos. I come from the thought process of seeing disorganisation and simply accepting that having a pilot who is not only weak but never signed up in the first place as being 16 losses down before a shot is fired and I have to point fingers at the powers that be. That's a burden no clan should carry! But we didn't seem to be the only ones. Achernar, another clan in our Division had one pilot who actually lost to WS Cal our weakest (I didn't sign up for this) pilot. We had found a clan worse off than our own. So how did our war go? Well with the situation we had, we managed to edge a win in the first round in a hard fought battle with Keepers of Thannhäuser Gate. Thanks for bringing a great fight! Round 2 we got slightly more fortunate with Achernar but only because they had a worse pilot than we did. It's disappointing when loss or victory does not come down to tactics. To a well laid plan. To organisation. When a victory is gained through your opponents having a weakness that is out of their control. Again, I would say that's chaos! I have to point at the well known fact that piloting level means very little in the Mechaverse! But still, silver is silver and 3 niode mechs when the fighting ends. Some will say I shouldn't complain, especially if they got less. But read it again and you'll see I've pointed out a number of glaring issues with the Chaos War format that should have been solved long before it was used again! I love a good battle. It's not that either clan had not battled hard and given their best shot. It was simply that pilots were not active, some didn't want to be there, some didn't show up and worst of all there was still the total mismatch that I've mentioned previously in posts for Galaxy Gathering. Level means very little in this game. I'm level 144 having levelled up just before round 2. Overall there's no pilot below me in level that can beat me and my main is only a Double Rainbow. Go up to level 200 and there's a dozen or so pilots who can match me. 2 x Chaos Wars and The shafting war that punished the contributors still didn't level the field. I get it, the non-paying masses want a level playing field! But neither of these war styles are the way to go about it. So, what do I think should be done instead? Don't ask me, I'm banned for my last comments and suggestions yet other players say a lot worse and their still posting away.....go figure! Ok, yeah, I haven't gone into the Gold match up versus 'Don't attack Charles Z'. Well....Sometimes a close match-up can come down to the number of D wins. I'm not going to point fingers at those pilots who blindly attacked with 0% chance of ever winning. But it all came down to the simplest of facts. One pilot was missing and another was wildly swinging away. We fought valiantly but the odds were against us from the start. The other clan was stronger, had all 8 members active and took their leader's tactical advice. Only allowing a maximum of 5 defeats per battle makes no difference when clan sizes are small and certain pilots are simply self destructive and incapable of following the most simple of orders. I was all ready with a big Congrats to Joshua Bourne and his clan 'Don't attack Charles Z'. But those defensive losses and the other clans early charge didn't open up the gap I was expecting. It was strange, It was almost as if the lead they built up instilled a sense of overconfidence in some of the clan's pilots as they just stopped attacking. Had they punched themselves out? Not by a long shot! But Myself, Sten and Luc had planned for this. We knew they were stronger, we knew they had 8 active members. We knew we had to let them 'think' they had it in the bag. Then one by one we all picked our targets and made our runs. Our tactic was working! We were within 5 wins and you could tell that some of the other pilots were starting to panic. With less than 35 minutes to go we played our final tactical move....'Luc Lachance'. No, it's not a tactic, more a fellow Blackwatch pilot who had sat back, forgotton by the opposition. We at 'The First Order' though hadn't forgot. This was our plan. We knew Luc had 8-10 wins in him. We just needed to be within 6-8 of our opponents. With just over 30 minutes left Luc charged with all guns blazing... When we got thrown together in our little clan I made the comment 'If we lose, we go down fighting!' We had fought, we had planned each round ( by some miracle they had both come off!) Was this third time lucky? As the Horn sounded and the smoke cleared we looked up at the scoreboard. Don't attack Charles Z - 43 v 46 - The First Order We were celebrating! Somehow we'd pulled off an upset and had come from behind. Joshua Bourne of 'Charles Z' sent his congratulations over our comms and I returned the praise for this was one of the closet battles I'd ever been in. But one thing bothered me in the midst of our celebrations...The other clan were arguing and a lot of the negative comments were aimed at Joshua. Why? First off, We're no amateurs! Look at my medal haul I have 49 KOTM Golds and (with this Victory) 26 Clan Golds. Sten was busy with long shifts in RL but when he asked me to be leader he did it knowing I was no slouch. Second, The 3 specs were set for our highest pilots (except Sten who is kick ass hard) because the plan was to limit losses. Yes I run a double rainbow but I knew that even though I was the second lowest level in the clan, I knew I could hold my own with a spec. Having the most D wins in my clan for the war backs this up! Third, we planned every battle. Yes WS Cal was missing. Yes Jerry Moon only ever turned up to ask for a spec half way through battle day one. (yeah, I know) But the rest of us were fully committed. We scouted, we planned. We had various contingency plans for each round depending on wether we were ahead or behind and by how much we were ahead or behind. Yes there was Chaos, but in the Chaos there was some meticulous planning. We didn't just turn up and get our Gold by total luck! I don't know exactly what happened with clan 'Charles Z' but I do know that you can't blame the leader. The whole clan was active! I personally couldn't believe that they took a decent lead and just sat back. They still had attacks in them. Let me explain...When I was at Heroes David McCallum always ran each battle by numbers. Projected wins, losses, safe numbers, etc,etc This was something I did for this war. For the oppostion I projected an easy 44 wins. That was without having to hit myself, Sten or any of our 3 Specialists. They didn't even have to change formation to get these wins (well the specs did) Then they had the specialist wins. Jorge was 50-50 so I predicted an equal win/loss there. Luc had 80 ton for his spec and this is so rare I predicted a zero loss for this match up. Brian D Wise had a Double Rainbow spec. It was decent, not as good as mine. I predicted 4-8 losses with a possibility 1-2 D wins dependant on if any of the opposition had a DR formation (some of them had to, right?) Taking myself out of the picture I could see 'Charles Z' taking 44-52 wins without having to come near myself or Sten. For us I crunched the same numbers and came out with 40-46 wins based on our abilities. Add in the defensive wins from the actual battle .... We gave away 7, They gave away 2. So 'Charles Z' should have had 51-59 wins We should have had 42-46 wins. Score ... We won 46 - 43..... We came in on target, our opponents were easily 8 wins short. 8 wins short and that's without even taking risks? You can't blame a clan leader if his clan members just aren't taking their opportunities. Anyhoo.....After the drinking, Dancing and the hangover we returned to our respective clans and started planning for the next war! No rest for the wicked!
As for Chaos Wars 3....please leave me out of this one! I have zero intention of entering and should you enter me against my wishes I will not battle, I will not field a line-up and I will force whichever poor clan you force me on 16 losses plus 5 each round as I wildly attack specialist 70 ton formations with one solitary ant! You know me, that's a promise! I just can't deal with this format again! There's too many holes! There's pilots in who haven't entered! There's pilots who are inactive! There's pilots who couldn't hit a barn door at 10 paces! etc, etc, etc! Yes it makes for an interesting battle if you get 2 equally matched teams BUT at best there was barely a handful of these overall. Yes there were some pilots getting Gold and Silver with their 3 complimentary Niode mechs to boot who had never had this before. But this was still a minimal percentage and it'll make no real dent on the long time spenders and contributors and the advantages that this has given them. But hopefully this may get a few more hands in pockets overall. That aside, I see no real change and if a 3rd Chaos War comes around I see the same slap dash piece of trash that we've all just witnessed.
