my favorite theater reaction was the second time i saw merrily when frank said “i just met the girl i oughtta marry” and the audience…gasped and murmured…instead of laughing…they truly got it…

Yesterday, The Museum of Broadway welcomed the stars of Merrily We Roll Along, Daniel Radcliffe, Jonathan Groff, and Lindsay Mendez, following their announcement of the 2024 Awards nominations live from the Museum.
After the program, Daniel and Jonathan were able to catch exhibits featuring artifacts from their former Broadway credits currently on-view at the museum.
Daniel Radcliffe stopped to pose with his iconic suit from How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, on display in The Museum of Broadway, while Jonathan Groff visited composer Duncan Sheik’s piano, used in the original Broadway production of Spring Awakening.

anyone else completely loosing it over Jonathan Groff’s choice to have Frank’s voice get progressively less harsh and textured as the show progresses (or, as he becomes younger and less… harsh and textured)?
at the beginning of the show (and the END of his cannon arc) in “That Frank,” he growls frequently in his singing (“…let it never stop!”) and thoroughly textures his louder line deliveries (“PARAMOUNT!!!”), whereas by the finale, (and the END of his cannon arc) “Our Time,” he’s skillfully tapered out the texture throughout the course of the score. totally buttered my skunk, and was an elegantly effective focal point for my second listen!

"merrily we roll along would have worked if it were told in order" actually merrily needs have an even weirder timeline. tell it completely out of order. put opening doors before old friends before bobby and jackie and jack. like it was before now you know. if the audience can't keep up that's their problem.
