#modern Phillip wittebane on 2015 tumblr sending anon hate to himself
Courtesy of @edoro I am thinking again about Belos and his religious trauma, and how it shows up in his weirdly Puritan approach to pleasure and suffering and goodness. He’s good because he’s suffered! Never mind that a lot of it was his own fault. But at the same time only his suffering matters because for him it is Righteous Trials Undertaken in Pursuit Of The Cause and for everyone else it’s just the consequences of their sinful nature. He actively self-harms, through the glyphs carved into his skin and the chunks taken out of his ears and the repeated murder of his brother-substitute, but for him it’s cathartic. He’s doing good! He can tell because it hurts, and if he secretly likes what he’s doing a little bit, well, he’ll just ignore that.
Trigger warning for assault etc under cut
I’d say more but this tweet I saw pretty well sums it up.
