Sandayuu is not wrong for the first time (or so I think. My brain was not braining for most of the last few chapters.)
Anyway, what is the difference between the Light and the Shadow Endings? What happens in the Shadow(possibly The Bad?) Ending?

Map of "who rules Iga” in the “Sengoku Era”, except it doesn’t say what year of the Sengoku. For all I know this is referring to the year 1500, and it would’ve looked different in the Nobunaga era.
I don’t know what the source of this data here either, but if this is accurate, then this makes the “three great clans” legend make sense.
The red is the Rokkaku, who also holds influence in the neighbouring Kouka territory. Their sub-clans include the Fujibayashi. This also explains why legends say Fujibayashi Nagato no Kami had “friends” in Kouka that helped him plead his case to the Oda and evade execution later.
The Yellow is the Niki, who were said to originally have been the samurai governers of Iga before they got run out and supplanted by the jizamurai. Their sub-clans include the Hattori.
The blue part is the Kitabatake, who were the semi-noble rulers of the neighbouring province of Ise. One of their sub-clans is Momochi, although according to the map Momochi Tanba (sometimes thought to be the same person as Sandayuu) also has influence in the Niki territories.
Now speaking realistically, though...
What makes this very hairy is that Nobunaga had already annexed Kitabatake long before the Iga problem happened. The Rokkaku also essentially submitted some time around 1570-1573. The Kouka warriors also surrendered somewhere around this time.
So the question is: What... exactly did the Oda forces invade and conquer in 1581? When the bigger clans folded and surrendered, does this mean the Oda already actually owned half of Iga? Or did the bigger clans withdraw from Iga in their surrender, as their “home bases” are in the neighbouring provinces? Meaning that the red and blue segments were then left “un-lorded” in the hands of the jizamurai? Or is this a map depicting a situation from decades prior to the Oda invasion, and by the time the Tensho Iga War happened, the whole province are overrun by jizamurai already?
When looking up the castle ownership and the lords of Niki, the online articles claim that there are still people from the Niki family who owns lands and castles in Iga even after the jizamurai union took over, and they’re still there when the Oda invaded.
This strengthened my opinion that the invasion of Iga is actually no different from the conquest of the Saika domains in Kii, and the conquering of Kaga. Especially Kaga, whose region were overrun by Honganji-affiliates. The samurai clans were still there, they just don’t really have any power. Iga just looks special because of the ninja woo woo.

Ranbu
Tumblr media
Ranbu is the Emperor of Light Waters of Aquitar. In the past, He is the founder and mentor of The Alien Rangers. He is known by The Alien Rangers and the Aquitians for having a serious and stern personality. So serious, that he rarely smiled at all. During his time as the mentor, Ranbu had been chosen as the next Emperor of Light Waters. Since Ranbu can't do 2 jobs at once, He decided to promote his servant, Ninjor, to Mentor of The Alien Rangers.
Ranbu would've been a counterpart of Sandayuu Momochi from Ninja Sentai Kakuranger
Tumblr media
The difference between them is that Sandayuu got killed by Gashadokuro while Ranbu didn't meet NOR get killed by Rito Revolto. Joke Incoming: Another difference is that Ranbu did not and would not dress up as a fucking cowboy! XD

Does Momochi Sandayū really exist?
He’s more or less accepted to be a real person, though I’m not sure what is the proof of this.
His exact identity is also a bit muddled. Sandayuu is sometimes referred to as Momochi Tanba no Kami (or Momochi Tanba for short), but some people are of the opinion that Sandayuu and Tanba no Kami are actually two relatives.
Some are also of the opinion that his real name is identified as Momochi Yasumitsu.

Oh ya, with the new “hints” from the gameplay snippets, I feel like... Momochi Sandayuu was functioning as a stand-in for Hachisuka Koroku to some extent. Like, they might actually give you a real Hachisuka Koroku as an NPC to obfuscate you, but Momochi being Hideyoshi’s friend who got hauled in to... well, help the Oda... Yeah, the classic “Koroku is ninja bandit who used to be HIde’s boss/friend thing” version of the story. Just, with Momochi instead because fuck you Nobu doesn’t hate ninjas  who knows what reasons.

Momochi Tanba
According to some website “recent research” shows that Momochi Tanba (no Kami) is not Momochi Sandayuu. Sandayuu is a descendant of Tanba’s. Which is... nice? Wonder what happened to them after the war with the Oda...
Like with Fujibayashi Nagato, “Tanba” is short for “Tanba no Kami”, a title.
... Which... is pretty interesting if you've read about these samurai title stuff. Nagato and Tanba are both provinces. In the Sengoku the X-no-Kami title doesn’t actually have anything to do with the province in question, but having the “X no Kami” title itself is a sign of high rank. Like... the Shinchoukouki mentions a bunch of Oda retainers being “Iga no Kami”, but those people totally got nothing to do with Iga the province.
As a comparison, it took Hideyoshi maybe almost 20 years of service to get the Chikuzen no Kami title? That would mean both Fujibayashi and Momochi are people who are officially recognized as someone of status. Even if it’s hereditary, it still probably means someone in the family was pretty prestigious.
Trying to remember if Momochi is Yasutoyo or Yasumitsu... I mentioned it once in my personal research rambles... I hope I tagged it properly

Kyouichirou is based on the folklore hero Ishikawa Goemon, which is a “Robin Hood” sort of thief, as we have seen in his various routes. Since Goemon’s personal life is not really part of the narrative, Kyouichirou’s personal life is an original creation/fiction.
I’m no entirely sure when the “Iga-Kouka rivalry” trope began. It’s at least been around since in mid-1900s, since the a lot of ninja stories from the time already allude to it. However, historically they have no enmity between them, so there’s no reason to have hostages. This was just a twist invented by Voltage writers to explain why Kyouichirou is originally from Kouka, despite Goemon being famous in lore for being a former Iga ninja. A student of Momochi Sandayuu, even.
Iga and Kouka sometimes collaborate to fight other enemies. The Shinchoukouki recorded that during the Oda’s fights against the Azai, the Azai commanders often had with them fighters from both iga and Kouka in one contingent.
Shima... well, I would probably elaborate more on him later, if there’s better info in the main route. He is also mostly fiction, based on the general lore of the Mochidzuki ninja. The Mochidzuki is indeed one of the “great clans” of Kouka, so in ninja stories they’d often be portrayed as one of the Kouka ninja’s elders/leaders. In fact, the Mochidzuki family’s mansion is today being advertised as a “Ninja house” in tourism.
Tumblr media
One of the most famous of the clan is Mochidzuki Chiyome/Chiyojo, famous for having trained young girls to be spies. Not “ninja”, mind. Even the legendary-leaning accounts don’t go that far. The girls were just spies dressed as shrine maidens, as religious figures often have more freedom in access to places without being suspected, but eventually the story expanded into “she trained kunoichi (female ninjas)”.

With all characters now revealed, there is also a full character showcase trailer released.
It’s very interesting to see Momochi Sandayuu of Iga fame aligned with Hideyoshi... He already has Kazu’uji the Kouga ninja working with him, and now Momochi too? I would have expected Ieyasu to be the one surrounded by ninja. In the new stream, the conversation even revealed that Momochi and HIdeyoshi considered each other brothers of sorts.
