Goode
Comments under the cut:
No lyrics with this because Archie's not really fussed about lyrics, Archie wants to know if there's scope for MAD DRUM SKILLZ and if there is then he's into it. And don't be fooled by the serious Ben Kingsley faceclaim, Archie is mostly a goof, it's just a bit of a nightmare finding good fcs for him.
The ironic thing about the Punjabi punks of Paisley, Archie and (Turkey) Mat Abernethy, is that they didn't become punks until they were in their thirties, because punk hadn't been invented before then. They ended up in the Glasgow care system very young but were lucky enough to be adopted by a couple in the wake of WW2. They were encouraged to be curious about all kinds of music, and I'm going to say maybe their adopted dad had suffered some hearing loss during the war and had other care requirements, so from a young age they were encouraged to be both noisy and caring. Mat went off to America quite young (details tbd), maybe he has an unexpected past as a jazz session musician before punk emerged in the '70s. But that's a whole other playlist.
Archie stayed back in Scotland, caring for their parents, playing the dhol (which Mat never did), and working at the zoo to pay the bills (Archie are you singing Wild Thing to the tigers?). The Punjabi folk he has access to is pretty classical stuff from the '20s and '30s that he gets from people at the Gurdwara, which opened in the 1950s, probably a bit late for Mat to be interested, Mat's a bit wilder, but it's a place Archie attends for the language lessons and musical connections in particular. It's in a tenement flat in Gorbals and he gets the train in from Paisley. But he and his big brother love their local acts, too, they're there cheering local girl Lulu along with everyone else when she performs in Glasgow after having her first big hit with Shout (1964) - Mat even makes the trip back for it. Later on, when mosh pits have been invented, you'll find that Archie and Mat can get a mosh pit going for Lulu.
Other local acts are Bert Jansch (folk hero involved in Pentangle. Archie thinks Moon Dog is kind of hilarious but he likes playing it and pretending to be a Beatnik. In reality he's not cynical enough for the Beats though), and The Sensational Alex Harvey Band. Archie and Mat grew up seeing Alex Harvey perform all round Glasgow with his various jazz and skiffle outfits (yes, they saw a very early version of the Beatles supporting them) and when he goes glam in the '70s Archie's well into it. For a man who goes bald quite young (and never really gets into fully into practicing Sikhism), Archie does love him some hair metal and glam.
In all, Archie gets into punk even later than his brother, so mostly this playlist is about the drums and about Archie's influences - he's a fan of early rock'n'roll, he knows who its real founders are, and basically he's here to have fun and hit things hard so that people dance. He came of age in the era of the drum solo, and it speaks to his soul, but he knows that the main thing about the drummer is to be the person keeping things on the level, maintaining the beat when all the egos of singers and guitarists are veering all over the place around you. Archie knows that the true meaning of punk is radical kindness. And drumming really, really fast.

Remembering Tun Tun on her 95th birth anniversary. Tun Tun (11 July 1923 – 24 November 2003) was the screen name of playback singer and actress-comedian, Uma Devi Khatri, who was called "Hindi cinema's first-ever comedienne". She arrived in Bombay (Mumbai) at the age of 23, having run away from home, and knocked on composer Naushad Ali's door. She told him that she could sing and that she would throw herself in the ocean if he didn't give her a chance. He auditioned her, and hired her on the spot. She made her debut as a solo playback singer, in Nazir's Wamiq Azra (1946). Soon she signed a contract with the producer-director A.R. Kardar, who used Naushad as music director, and went on make a place for herself amidst music stalwarts like Noor Jehan, Rajkumari, Khursheed and Zohrabai Ambalewali. In 1947, she had huge hits with "Afsana Likh Rahi Hoon Dil-e-beqarar ka", "Yeh Kaun Chala Meri Aankhon Mein Sama Kar", and "Aaj Machi Hai Dhoom Jhoom Khushi Se Jhoom", which she sang for actress Munawar Sultana in A.R. Kardar's Dard (1947), again under the music direction of Naushad; she also sang a duet, "Betaab Hai Dil Dard-e-Mohabat Ke Asar Se", with Suraiya In fact, a gentleman from Delhi was so enamoured by her song, "Afsana Likh Rahi Hoon", that he stayed with her in Bombay. They got married, and the couple had two daughters and two sons; her husband, whom she called Mohan, died in 1992. Success of Dard meant that she next received Mehboob Khan's Anokhi Ada (1948), which again had two hit numbers, "Kahe jiya dole" and "Dil ko lagake humne kuch bhi na paya". This brought her into the league of highly rated playback singers. She reached her peak as a vocalist in director S.S. Vasan's "Chandralekha" (1948) made by Gemini Studios, Chennai. Her seven songs, which include hits like, "Saanjh ki bela", remain her most accomplished work in her singing career; though signing the film also meant a breach of contract with producer-director Kardar, which led to her dwindling fortunes in the industry. Moreover, in following years, owing to her older style of singing and limited vocal range, she found it difficult to compete with the rising singing stars, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. Eventually Naushad suggested that she take up acting, because she had a very bubbly personality and wonderful comic timing. He asked his friend Dilip Kumar to cast her in one of his films, and she appeared in Babul (1950) with him, which had Nargis as the lead actress; it is he who renamed her as 'Tun Tun' to suit her comic persona, the name stayed with her, and a comedic legend was born. She went on to act in Guru Dutt's classics like Aar Paar (1954), Mr. & Mrs. '55 (1955) and Pyaasa (1957). In the 1960s and 1970s, she was a permanent comic relief in numerous Bollywood films, a few years down the line, she most notably starred in Amitabh Bachchan starrer, Namak Halaal (1982), a Prakash Mehra's blockbuster. In her career spanning five decades, she acted in around 198 films in Hindi/Urdu and other languages like Punjabi etc, pairing with top comedy actors of her times like Bhagwan Dada, Agha, Sunder, Mukri, Dhumal, Johnny Walker and Keshto Mukherjee. She was last seen in Hindi film in 'Kasam Dhande Ki' (1990).

Have you ever felt like Fawad Khan dislikes Sheheryar Munawar ?
nooo.. they’ve known each other for a while now.
Sheheryar is Sultana Siddqui’s nephew and has worked with him in Zindagi Gulzar Hai and he’s been kinda of ‘interning’ before working as an actor on several sets of Hum Tv and with Asim Raza. Fawad was asked to do Adeel Husain’s role in Ho Mann Jahaan which was partially produced by Sheheryar.
so no, i don’t think Fawad dislikes Sheheryar they might not be the best of friends but still get along pretty well i would say. Sheheryar even mentions Fawad as someone he looks up to and Fawad considers Sheheryar as a “great new addition” to the industry.

Today is death anniversary of Shyam
Shyam
By Karan Bali
Shyam was regarded as one of the most good-looking leading men of Hindi cinema by old timers. Hindi cinema historians are certain that if not for his untimely death in 1951, the face of Hindi cinema in the 1950s would have been very different, for at the time, Shyam was as big a star as the Trimurti that would rule Hindi cinema in the ’50s – Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand and Raj Kapoor.
He was born Sunder Shyam Chadha on February 20, 1920 in Sialkot. However, he spent his growing up years in Rawalpindi and graduated from Gordon College there. He appeared in a screen test for Bombay Talkies in the early 1940s but was rejected and even assisted director JK Nanda briefly. He then made his acting debut in the Punjabi movie, Gowandhi (1942) co-starring Veena, Manorama, SD Narang, Asha Posley and the great character actor, M Ismail. However, Shyam’s father was not keen for him to work in the film line but his uncle, Tarachand Chadha convinced the family to let Shyam work in films.
Shyam appeared in WZ Ahmed’s Man Ki Jeet (1944), opposite Ahmed’s ‘discovery’ Neena and in Room No. 9 (1946) opposite Geeta Nizami but was finding the going tough. Following partition of India in 1947 and screen testing again for Bombay Talkies, Shyam starred in their production, Majboor (1948) co-starring Munawar Sultana. He received good notices for his work even from the hard-to-please Baburao Patel and did not have to look back thereafter. His association with Bombay Talkies also led to a close friendship with writer Saadat Hasan Manto, described in rather touching detail by the latter. That year, he also appeared in Shahid Lateef’s Shikayat opposite Nigar Sultana.
Shyam finally broke through big time in 1949 with a string of hits including Dillagi (1949), Kaneez (1949) and Patanga (1949). Dillagi, co-starring Suraiya, remains his best known film. Directed by AR Kardar, the film showed Shyam had it in him to be a fine actor as well. The film, a tragic romance, was a huge success at the box office with the song Tu Mera Chand Main Teri Chandni hummed all over the country. The Shyam-Suraiya hit pair would go in to do Naach and Char Din as well. Another extremely popular film, Kaneez, saw Shyam caught between his wife, Munawar Sultana, and sexy vamp, Kudip Kaur, who all but destroys his marriage, forcing Sultana to live like a servant in her own house.
As he became a star, Shyam acted with heroines like Naseem Banu (Chandni Raat (1949)), Nargis (Chhoti Babi, Meena Bazaar (both 1950)), Rehana (Surajmukhi, Nirdosh (both 1950)), Nimmi (Wafa (1950)) and Meena Shorey (Kale Badal (1951)). While shooting for the Filmistan swashbuckler, Shabistan co-starring Naseem Banu, Shyam fell off a horse and suffered major head injuries. He succumbed to his wounds in hospital on April 25, 1951.
On the personal front, Shyam was married to a Muslim woman, Taji, who migrated to Pakistan after his death. His daughter, Sahira, went on to become a popular TV artist there. He also had a son, Shakhir, whom he did not live to see as the latter was born a couple of months after his death.
Some other films that Shyam acted in include Raat Ki Rani (1949), Samadhi (1950) and Sangeeta (1950) .
