i wish I had more friends who liked the same things that i do bc I'm booking this tiny cabin in the woods for a few days and none of my friends enjoy the outdoors so I'm going solo which is good for the soul but at the same time if I'm murdered I'd like someone to be there other than the murderer

Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong....
After dropping the Chrises at Sydney Departures to catch their flight back to the UK (see previous blog post for part 1!), I headed onwards to the Domestic terminal to catch a flight up to Darwin. Arriving at 1am, I had a rather sleepless few hours on the floor of Darwin airport before greeting my parents through arrivals at 5am! We had 3 weeks of Outback adventures ahead to catch up on all we’d missed from a year apart!
We picked up our Britz campervan for the first part of the trip and headed straight in the direction of Kakadu National Park on the red dirt roads in the very hot sunshine to get straight into holiday mode! The evening was spent at an old aboriginal site called Ubirr; here there were ancient ochre paintings, beautiful rock formations and stunning vistas, perfect for a sunset viewing!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We’d heard there might be a possibility of seeing crocs in Kakadu although none of us were convinced we actually would. However, a stroll to Cahill’s Crossing proved us all wrong; on arrival we could see the ominous backs of about 12 crocodiles swimming around in the inaccurately named ‘East Alligator River’. There were locals fishing in the river standing scarily close to the edge, given that behind them were multiple collections of flowers and crosses commemorating people who had been killed in recent years by getting just that bit too close! It was incredible to see the crocodiles climbing out of the water and watching their size triple from what it had appeared in the water!
Tumblr media
All those black dots in the water? Crocodiles!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A stunning walk around Bardedjilidgi sandstone outcrops and a steep hike up to Nawlandja lookout overlooking the Nourlangie escarpment provided some of our first exposures to the incredible Kakadu landscape! Given how much land was burning all the time (at one point there were embers right up to the road we were driving along), we were surprised at how green the landscape was.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We braved another close croc encounter on a walk around Anbangbang billabong and also spotted our first Jabiru! It looked absolutely enormous – especially in comparison to all the other birds on the billabong!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Spent the night at an unexpectedly beautiful campsite on the Mary River where we were surrounded by wallabies and kangaroos!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was time to head across to Litchfield National Park – a smaller area and surprisingly quite different landscape to Kakadu given its relative proximity. We stopped off en route at the ‘magnetic termite mounds’ – so called as they are aligned with their main axis running north to south and orientated such to minimise midday sun exposure and warmth inside the mound. There were also some enormous mounds- up to 5 metres high!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We did a walk to Buley rockholes (which themselves were full of people swimming) but we found our own private one just a few minutes downstream to have a much-needed refreshing dip! Our walk took us down to the popular Florence Falls, and then onwards to the stunning Wangi Falls where we were staying the night! Wangi falls had been closed until the week prior due to crocodile sightings so it was safe to say my mum did not look one bit relaxed for the beautiful sunset swim in there!

Wangi Falls
We squeezed as many hikes as we could in our short time in Litchfield so our last full day there was spent hiking along the Upper and Lower Cascades (literally clambering down a waterfall). It was so hot and we found an inviting rockhole mid-hike but had left our swimmers in the van– my dad and I are not ones to miss out on a plunge pool swimming opportunity so we just jumped in in our clothes! Lunch was at the top of yet another waterfall amid the Tjaetaba walk through a sharp contrast of monsoon forest and savanna landscapes! We finished the day with a walk around the Tolmer falls which were worth our close shave with heat stroke in the high temperatures of the afternoon!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We briefly explored Darwin town centre and harbour before driving to the airport for our flight to Alice Springs for our Red Centre adventure!
Flying in we could see no evidence of any human life anywhere close until we got off the plane and saw there was in fact an airport there! It had just been expanses of red dirt as far as the eye could see, with no town in sight! We were staying in an amazing ‘glamping hut’ I found on Airbnb called Under The Hump. Sitting outside by the firepit having our kanga steaks with a beautiful view of the stars will certainly be one of me lasting memories of Alice! We weren’t quite prepared for the cold weather we would be faced with though – going from 32 degree mornings to 3 degrees was a bit of a shock to the system!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We explored the town and rather fell in love with its character! A small sleepy town surrounded thousands of miles of desert! Having lived by the coast all our life we realised it was the furthest any of us had ever been from the sea!
We explored the famous Todd Mall markets, and went to the Todd River (I was hugely disappointed by this as was expecting an actual river and was met by an expanse of sand. Apparently I was the only one to not be aware that this would be the case. My Tripadvisor review would be a generous 1star as far as rivers go. Same goes for the actual Alice Spring which I didn’t realise we had even seen until I was told later – because it was again just sand.) We spent a fascinating few hours at the National Women’s Pioneer Museum at the old gaol and a visit to the Telegraph station which allowed telegraphs to be sent between Adelaide and Darwin and was the site of the first European settlement in Central Australia (I imagine the Spring actually had water in it at that time….) – although should be acknowledged that the Arrernte people have inhabited what is now Alice Springs for thousands of years prior!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of my favourite days of the trip was exploring the absolutely breath-takingly beautiful West MacDonnell ranges along the Larapinta trail. We started about 2 hours from Alice at our furthest point, Glen Helen Gorge. It was a deceivingly cold day despite the basking sunshine so we passed on taking the ‘refreshing dip’ here and felt for the many people we saw running who were doing a 4 day Larapinta trail run!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mum trying to protect herself from the cold wind!
The next stop was the stunning Ormiston Gorge with hike around the top and through the middle of the gorge (which again had no water because dry season!). The other stops along the way are probably best described with photos rather than words. They included the Ochre pits where indigenous people collected ochre to use for rock and body paintings, which they used to tell Dreamtime stories and in ceremony; Serpentine Gorge with a steep hike up to a lookout over the West MacDonnells; Ellery Creek Hole and Simpsons Gap. We had hoped to see a few rock wallabies along the way but unfortunately they may have been hiding away from the cold!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was a long 5 hour drive down to Yulara (the small resort town for Uluru). 5 hours along a straight road with fairly barren red dirt desert either side; even just this relatively short distance made us appreciate how enormous and sparse this country is. We caught our first glimpse of Uluru and Kata Tjuta from afar as we approached and what a beautiful sight it was! We found a viewing area next to our accommodation where we watched our first of many Uluru sunsets!
Tumblr media
We spent the next 3 days exploring the National Park, learning about the significance of Uluru to the Anangu people and all about the local culture and traditions. Seeing Uluru up close was much more impressive than I'd imagined; what looks like a fairly uniform rock from far away is made of up so many caves and gorges and rock formations which all have cultural significance and stories behind them!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mutitjulu Waterhole
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The other place of significance in the National Park is Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) which is a contrasting collection of rocks (the formation of both Uluru and Kata Tjuta seems to be still very much undecided so I’m struggling to know what to call them!). We did an absolutely stunning hike there called the Valley of the Winds with some breathtaking viewpoints.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After lots of beautiful sunset viewings, we braved a very early start, armed with a thermos of hot tea, to drive into the Park to watch the sunrise. It was certainly a popular event but we could see why – watching the colours change over Uluru with Kata Tjuta in the distance was just spectacular!
Our legs were exhausted from a lot of hiking so we spent our last day going to workshops and talks put on by the resort, learning about bush tucker, aboriginal hunting tools and even a didgeridoo lesson!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was time to fly back to Newcastle but what a trip of a lifetime we’d been lucky to experience! It was great to finally show my mum around the place I’ve talked so much about over the past 5 years and to take her back to Sydney to see where they both lived 31 years ago, and meet up with some of their old friends!
Sadly, their life back in England called, so it was another goodbye but we parted ways with so many incredible memories to last a lifetime!
It was back to hospital life and the revision grind for me....

I planned to do a lot more writing while I was away, but due to not having a laptop, very limited access to a computer, and laziness I didn’t write much, none really. So here is a small insight for those who want to know more about my time in South America. Photo: Indigenous Home in Northern Peru
Ecuador
I initially arrived in Quito, Ecuador in early October. Arriving there was quite the shock, being in a new culture and certainly standing out a lot more than the people around me. I went straight into Spanish classes a couple days later, with the idea of learning enough Spanish just to get by. After 2 weeks of classes, I discovered this passion for the language I never I knew I had. Learning Spanish was something I really enjoyed. The classes were intense, and with a lot of homework, but the study certainly paid off many times in the months to come.
Whilst in Ecuador and between classes I visited a range of different spots, because Ecuador is small compared to most other South American countries, it was really easy to navigate around the country, I was able to visit the Cloud Forrest and witness toucans in the wild, visit the largest indigenous markets of Ecuador near the Columbian border and also hike the Quilatoa trail. The highlight of my time was easily the Galapagos Islands a truly outstanding and unique place in the world.
Before leaving Ecuador a good friend of mine who was teaching English in the city, offered me the opportunity to come into his class for half a day. It was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down, and a chance to really see what school is like for so many children in Ecuador. I ended up teaching some Australian slang, and what we like to eat here (thankfully all while speaking English), and I also learnt a lot about Ecuador from the students themselves. After about 6 weeks in Ecuador, I was ready to head into Peru. I was giddy with excitement to surf the north coast and leave the comfort zone I had created in Ecuador.
Peru
Arriving off the overnight bus into Peru was radically different. Ecuador was often lush, green, while the north was easily the driest place I had ever seen. The north really shocked me, there was very, very few tourists and I found myself only speaking Spanish for days at a time. In the north I found some surf, got adopted into a Latino family, suffered from altitude sickness in the high mountains, and really found myself outside my comfort zone a lot of the time. It was a tough but very rewarding part of my journey.
After about 3 weeks on the north coast, I came down into the south of Peru. This region is far more famous, with ancient sites such as the Nazca Lines, Cusco and Machu Picchu . It was a really spectacular time in Southern Peru, and easily one of my favourite place in South America. The culture and variety of landscapes are truly incredible. For anyone looking for the ‘quintessential’ South American experience, I can’t recommend southern Peru enough.
Bolivia
The next step of the journey was Bolivia. Famous for its incredibly high altitudes and strong indigenous presence. At many times I felt as though Bolivia, was uniquely different, and with lower levels of tourism throughout the country it felt often more authentic. In the 2 weeks in Bolivia, I was fortunate to visit the sprawling city of La Paz and its museums, Lake Titicaca the highest inland lake in the world and the endless Salt Flats. Bolivia was great, and I could’ve easily spent more time there. It’s an incredibly cheap place to live, and due to the highest levels of poverty in South America, the cost in general is very low for most things. but after two months at high altitude, I was ready for the coast and maybe most of all more oxygen.
Chile
After crossing the border into Chile, it was easy to see how different it was.Things were far more expensive, the price in Chile was similar to that of Australia and radically more expensive than Bolivia. I had to be sure to be a lot more savvy with my money, I had to become cheap again like I was in Canada and Alaska. After long bus rides through the Atacama Desert in the North I arrived in Santiago, arguably the heart of Chile.
Santiago is a giant and unfortunately very smoggy city nestled in the mountains. Great hospitality kept me there, but it was Patagonia in the far south which more than any other place in South America initially made me want to visit the continent. Hitchhiking through the mountains there was an unreal experience and some of the best days of my life. Spectacular mountains, speaking lots and lots of Spanish everyday while receiving amazing Chilean hospitality, which I come to know well.
I was also able to catch a couple weeks of work in Patagonia working at an Eco resort or ‘glamp ground’. I got paid in food and accommodation for a few hours work each day. It was a great deal, I was eating the same food as the guests, and a lot of the work just involved me helping out in the kitchen, or helping the guides with kayaking or mountain biking. As far as I was concerned I was living the dream. From there I hitchhiked across the border into Argentinian Patagonia, than back into Chile. I ended up hitchhiking close to 2000km in Patagonia.
Falklands Islands
Getting to the Falklands islands was a logistical nightmare. With only one flight out a week to the islands from Chile there was a high demand for the flight and it’s hard to get a ticket. The flight was also more complicated due to the war between Argentina and the Falklands Islands, making it almost impossible to catch a flight to the Falklands from the closer Argentina. Even when I made it to the airport, initially they wouldn’t even let me on the plane.
Once I made it there, I was able to stay there with my extended family, which made me quickly forget about the challenges of making it to the Islands. The Falklands islands were radically different to Latin America, and it felt unbelievably weird to be speaking English all day, in fact in many ways it still does now. During my time in the Falklands, I was able to witness the incredible diversity there particularly of the animals. The Falklands is home to 5 different species of penguins, many whales, dolphins and seals. Often I felt as though I was lost in a nature documentary, particularly because of how the animals were not at all alarmed by people. The sub antarctic islands were a really special place.
Overall
This trip was radically different to other trips I had done in the past. Whilst in Canada and Alaska, I was working almost 90% of the time, and I just made the most of my time on the weekends, and in between seasons I travelled as far as I could with minimal money. In a lot of ways it was there, where I was able to learn how to travel really cheap and far.
This trip will maybe be the most memorable for me, as it forced me to learn a new language and really go outside my comfort zone every day. It sounds cliché but I certainly learnt a lot about the world and myself on this journey.
A few things I learnt:
•        People may speak different languages, eat different foods and live different lives but we are all not that different from one another. We all want love and happiness.
•        I am unbelievably fortunate to have been born in Australia, a land of opportunity. Given this wealth of opportunity, I can’t afford to squander that, instead go after my dreams to the furthest extent.
•        I didn’t know my own language. Whilst I learn a lot about Spanish, I also learnt an unbelievable amount about how we speak English.
•        South America is giant, Brazil alone is bigger than Australia, and it has everything you could ever want, from big mountains, epic surf, rain-forest, history, culture… It has it all.
•        It always sounds scarier than it actually is when reading about a place back home. South America is a surprisingly safe and welcoming place.
I’m truly grateful and genuinely happy with my time in South America. A huge thanks to everyone out there. Lots of love!

101 hobbies for the start in 2019 – Listed by hobby types
via WordPress bit.ly/2Rj4DrD
When I was in high school and college, I remember feeling bored. The world was wide open and the possibilities to create and reshape me were endless, but the best in life seemed to be ahead of me. I have always been waiting for this good part.
Now I'm not preparing for the future anymore. Maybe I arrived already.

101 hobbies for the start in 2019 – listed by hobby
As much as we love our work, our work has become a problem lately. Travel blogging is not a big gap between work and life, and we admit that we are both workaholics.
We were swept away by the hustle and bustle of NYC and it was only recently that we realized how much we had begun to value work more than anything else. One day, we set ourselves the goal of releasing the evening, and when we realized that we did not know how to fill our time, we immediately went back to work.
That may sound easy, but it was not so easy for us. We also need something we like to do for ourselves, not so we can post something that, strangely, is a predominant part of the present human experience.
The benefits of hobbies
A few reasons why I want to find some new hobbies next year:
To play and relax – We have to find hobbies that bring us zero money and that may bore everyone. Haha
To sharpen my mind – I have such a terrible memory now and may be on the way to Alzheimer's early on duty (it's in the family and it's killing me).
For personal growth, enrichment and emotional health – something I have to work on all the time.
For better physical health – we are already climbing, but I think we need some cardiovascular activity.
Further advantages are:
Learn a useful skill
Make contacts and make new friends
Make extra money
Title of the subsection
With our blog, you may already know that we are all exploring our homes and backyards. We firmly believe that the adventure begins in you by cultivating an adventure spirit. Many of them can be done at home. How many more locals can you get?
"Find three hobbies that you love: one to earn money, one to stay in shape, and one to be creative with." And if there was a fourth, we would add one to the world to make a better place. Which one do you want to do next year?

It's a great way to work out without feeling like you're training. The frequent use of the local climbing gym was also one of the best ways to make friends as we move from city to city. Here are a few tips for beginners.
canyoneering
Start with a guided canyoning tour. This is also a good guide to getting started.
slacklining
Many climbers also slackline to work on their balance, but there are also people who only have slackline. We want to set up this kit at home when we leave our little NYC apartment.
Rockclimbing
Mountaineering takes hiking to the next level by adding more technical aspects. They can pick up equipment at REI and they can always show you the best equipment. You also have the best return policy.
Mountain biking
Explore nature on two wheels. Here you will find mountain bike fans.
camping
Camping can be as relaxing or extreme as you like. As an example, we have this cheaper tent for camping and this for long backpacking.
Glamping
If you want to experience nature but still need comfort, glamping is the way to go. This is one of our most popular glamping trips.
Kayaking, canoeing or SUP
Kayaking, canoeing and / or SUP are great on the go as it allows you to explore areas most people are not capable of. This was one of our first kayaking trips.
rafting
Try this out by going on rafting tours with guides. You can then take some gear with you when you are ready to take it seriously.
Skiing or snowboarding
We met some people who are moving out of pure ski or snowboard love to a new city. If you're worried about the cold, make sure you have solid winter clothes, and you're done.
Scuba diving
We have always been interested in diving and eventually took classes in San Diego and admitted. We are now whiskey divers.
Fishing, crabs or lobsters
Here's a great beginner fishing set to get your feet wet. We also wrote this guide on how to get crabs on the Oregon coast.

Martial arts or kickboxing
I switched kickboxing on and off with my friend for a few years. I would borrow gloves, but I always had my own hand wraps.
Parkour / ninja warrior
Ever since Ninja Warrior became popular, gyms are appearing everywhere to run free and train NW. You can even start building a home-made course.
Paintball
Some of our friends were semi-professional paintballers. There are arenas around the world, and you can even pick up your own paintball gun to practice at home.

Jacob ran 10 km each year with his father and completed a half marathon. None of us really like it anymore, but we have many friends who do that. We love these shoes (men + women) because they are great for traveling and running.
Go skateboarding
We bought one of these penny boards to learn something this year, but were intimidated by car and pedestrian traffic in NYC.

Join the local league, whether it's basketball, tennis, the ultimate Frisbee or Jacob's latest obsession – Pickleball.

We have never started yoga, but our Yogi friends swear by these yoga mats.

Choose something that is important to you and find a way to get involved in a local organization.
Favorite quotes on hobbies
If you need a few words of motivation next year to join a hobby, here are some more quotes I like.
"I can never read all the books I want. I can never be all the people I want and live all my life. I can never train in all the skills I want. And why do I want? I want to live and feel all the nuances, sounds and variations of the mental and physical experience that are possible in my life. And I'm terribly limited "(Sylvia Plath)
"Legendary innovators like Franklin, Snow and Darwin all have some common intellectual traits – a certain speed, unlimited curiosity – but they also share another defining trait. They have many hobbies. "- Steven Johnson

Camping In Yosemite Travel Guide
I was asked to be Lorissa’s Kitchen’s Travel Expert for 2017 (so excited!) and I’m pleased to bring this Camping in Yosemite Guide as the first of our partnership. I was compensated for my time. Stay tuned for more!
It’s been forever since I wrote my last Travel Guide. While my life certainly hasn’t been short on travel, besides my trip back to Toronto most of my trips have been work related and less “Davs takes on the wilderness”. This post feels like a throwback to our cross-country road trip last year and in many ways, our trip to Yosemite was even more reminiscent of it.
Good people, great food, off the grid and exploring the great outdoors. My happy place, if you haven’t figured that out already.
This wasn’t our first trip to Yosemite. C and I went with a couple of friends in September of 2015 and that trip was equally as awe-inspiring as this one. But they were also different in so many ways. When we went in September 2015, California was still in a drought and it was the end of the season so none of the waterfalls were running. Yosemite was certainly still beautiful, but not nearly as lush as this visit. But with lushness comes rain so it’s not surprising that it rained all 3 days we were there. All the rain meant snow in the mountainous meadows so we couldn’t get up there this time, but the weather also forced us to explore some of the less popular nooks and crannies of the park that oftentimes get passed over for the spectacular views of Glacial Point or Tenaya Lake.
We also had a different crew with us this time. As many of you know, I went to summer camp for 10 years in New Hampshire and the friends I made there will forever hold a special place in my heart. You’ll remember Dale and Erica from the post I wrote about our camp reunion a few years back, but Dale and her boyfriend Dave are on a cross-country road trip and me, Erica and C decided to tag along on their trip to Yosemite. We couldn’t have asked for a better group!
On this trip we also decided to camp rather than stay in one of the cabins at Half Dome Village. So this post is written more as a guide to anyone looking to camp in Yosemite. Together I think this guide and the last one give a really well-rounded picture of Yosemite and what to explore on your next trip to this stunning national park.
CAMPING IN YOSEMITE
The biggest thing you need to know about camping in Yosemite is to BOOK IN ADVANCE. And we’re talking at least 6 months in advance. Spots book up super quickly so even you’re thinking about visiting definitely be on top of booking.
There’s a couple different parts of the park where you can stay. Staying in the valley is definitely the most popular but I’m going to vouch for a few other places. There are 13 campgrounds so I can’t cover them all, but instead will highlight a few.
In the valley:
Upper/Lower/North Pines – Right on the valley floor, these are a great option for camping in the park
Camp 4 – this site has an extensive history for rock climbers and is definitely the “party site” in the park
Housekeeping Camp – We stayed here last time and really enjoyed it. It’s more “glamping” because they give you a cot and sheets (we just used our sleeping bags), but you can have a campfire and that’s always the best part of camping anyway. Technically this is not one of the 13 campsites, but it’s a nice middle ground if you’re not prepared to sleep in a tent!
Outside the valley:
Hogdgon Meadow – this is actually where we stayed on this trip and we really liked it. Perfect for car camping and if you’re looking for something a bit quieter and outside the valley. This campsite is right after the entrance to the park and about 40 mins to the valley. Definitely request a site on the outer circle rather than on the inside, which are a little too close to the bathrooms (just sayin’!)
Wawona Camp – I haven’t been here but it’s open year-round (as are all the ones mentioned above) and is South of the valley, which is great if you’re coming from Central or Southern California.
Tuolomne Meadows – we’re dying to stay here, but it’s only open for a limited season in the summer. Check the forecast as opening and closing dates depend on the snow. During our most recent trip, the road up to the meadows was closed so it wasn’t even accessible but when we were there in September, it was spectacular!
WHAT WE DID
We definitely covered the more popular areas on our last trip like Glacier Point and Tuolomne Meadows, but due to snow both of these were actually closed. Yup, it’s definitely snowing there well into May! But as I mentioned, the bright-side to all of this is that we were able to explore some less popular regions of the park. Here’s what we did:
Valley Loop Trail – Just driving into the valley is an adventure in itself. We drove in from our campsite late on Sunday so we only had a few hours to explore. We walked the loop along the valley floor to take in the views of Half Dome, El Capitan and all of the waterfalls rushing down around us.
Tuolomne Grove – the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias is perhaps the most famous in the park, but because it was closed during our trip (theme of the trip?) we ended up going to Tuolomne Grove, which did not disappoint! I had never seen Sequoias before and was blown away but their size.
Yosemite Falls Trail – We LOVED finding this trail on our last day. We ended up doing the 2 mile up to Columbia Rock rather than the 7 mile trail to the top for time purposes but, whichever one you choose to do, you will love it. It’s a strenuous hike but gives you incredible views of the valley and of Half Dome and Glacier Point.
If it seemed like we didn’t do a whole lot, you might be right. Because of the rain, we were held off a bit and honestly, we wanted to enjoy each other’s company as much as we could. So we spent quite a bit of time sitting around the campfire EATING. Which brings me to…
WHAT WE ATE
Camping definitely requires some prep when it comes to food. And for as much as I love peanut butter sandwiches, I was determined to elevate our camping eats. Because we were car camping, we were able to bring in a lot more supplies so I put together a menu and did a full Trader Joe’s grocery shop beforehand. And if the pictures haven’t given it away, we ate A LOT of Lorissa’s Kitchen! The Korean BBQ is my favorite flavor.
If you’re planning a car camping trip soon, definitely use my Car Camping Packing List. I used it for this trip and was so grateful I had it!
No matter where you camp in the park, you will have to store your food in a bear locker. There are black bears in the park so it’s definitely something to be aware of, but as long as you store your food in the bear lockers provided you should be totally fine.
Lastly, if you find yourself camping in the rain, there are a couple of restaurants you can eat at in the park. Half Dome Village (where we stayed last time) has a pretty decent cafeteria and pizza and the Majestic Yosemite Hotel (formerly the Ahwahnee) offers fancy dining. Rush Creek Lodge is a hotel just outside the park and we actually ended up eating one dinner there because it was raining too hard to cook on the fire. The food was great and the environment was awesome if you’re looking for a place to get some civilization outside the park.
If you’re interested in seeing what was on the menu, stay tuned for my next What I Eat In A Day video coming on Sunday! I’ll be sharing all of our Yosemite eats and some more behind-the-scenes footage.
* * * * *
If you haven’t been to Yosemite yet, you should definitely add it to your bucket list! It’s one of our favorite places in the world (if you couldn’t tell) and we can’t wait to explore more. We’re hoping to get back there in the fall and explore more of the meadows before they close. Stay tuned!
Have you been to Yosemite? Do you enjoy camping trips?

101 hobbies for the start in 2019 – Listed by hobby types
via WordPress bit.ly/2Ti4KkJ

Outdoor Hobbies
hike
Some of our friends are top collectors. This is a form of gathering where you will compile a list of peaks of your choice (for example, the 14's in Colorado). Take a look at our 25 best hikes in the world.
rock climbing
More: 25 best walks in the world you can put on your list
Sports hobbies
archery
A good start is teaching at a local archery club.
bowling
Regardless of how serious bowling you are, if you go more than a few times a year you should take your own shoes to save money (for men and women).
To go biking
Cycling is available in many different forms and is a great way to explore and challenge yourself. Here's your cycling gear.
golfing
Golfing is a great hobby and something you can do while traveling around the world. Read this book about what all golfers should know.
Ride horses
Whether you want to become a full rider or just ride when you're on the go, there are many different ways to do it.
Ice skating
Lutz Jump, Twizzle and Salchow jump around the ice. Or if you're like us, just try skating backwards. If you are in NYC, here are the best skating rinks to visit.
To run
Jacob ran 10 km each year with his father and completed a half marathon. None of us really like it anymore, but we have many friends who do that. We love these shoes (men + women) because they are great for traveling and running.
Go skateboarding
We bought one of these penny boards to learn something this year, but were intimidated by car and pedestrian traffic in NYC.
surfing
We surfed a few times and even took surf lessons while living in San Diego. We would like to come back when we are closer to the sea.
swim
Swimming is one of the best forms of exercise as you get older as you do not use your joints so much.
Join a sports league
Join the local league, whether it's basketball, tennis, the ultimate Frisbee or Jacob's latest obsession – Pickleball.
yoga
We have never started yoga, but our Yogi friends swear by these yoga mats.

Street trips are a great way to explore the surroundings of your city and appreciate your larger garden. To help you get started, read our day and weekend tour guides.

We never had the idea of sailing full time since getting seasick, but we hope to visit some of our sailing friends. We will see if they change our mind.

coloring
Dyeing can be fun and therapeutic. We made it for a date and looked through some nice travel books.

Whether you're just drawing doodles, drawing anime characters or drawing comics, you can learn how to draw. This book is so good for people who do not believe that they can draw.
engraving
There are many different media for engraving, and it can be very advanced, but it is easy to buy a kit for beginners.
Graffiti Art
It's amazing to see how popular graffiti is and there are beautiful pieces all over the world. With its growing popularity, you can also sign up for the start.

Improv class
Whether you want to perform or not, it's a great way to overcome the fear of what people think about you.
Juggle
Our neighbor has a set of juggling balls on his coffee table so everyone can pick them up to pick them up. With a little practice, you can do some impressive things.
Latte Art
Release your inner barista by picking on Latte-Art. Even if you do not succeed, you can enjoy your messy creation. Here is a great book for inspiration.
Magic
Lately, we've been looking at Magic for Humans, which has sparked our interest in magic. Start with a nice card game to practice your handgrip.
musical instrument
We both grew up playing the piano, but lost much of what we learned. We still bring our books with the intention of practicing again.
painting
I always wanted to learn how to paint. When I was younger, I attended art class and Jacob bought an easel a few years ago so I can start again.
photography
No matter which camera you have, you can always learn to take better photos. If you are looking for a DSLR camera for beginners, have a look at them.

ceramics
This toolset has the highest ratings.

to compose music
Try to write your own music. If you feel comfortable, you can even do it with local microphones.

Crafting hobbies
Twist balloon
I did not know that this was one thing until one of our friends got down to business before his kid's birthday party. All it took was a basic kit and a few YouTube videos.

Cross-stitch / embroidery
This is another great hobby that has a lot of resources and kits so you can do it alone.

Food styling
I always wanted to learn the food styling, especially since we take so many food photos. Get a book or participate in local courses.

I tried Urban Gardening, but I have a black thumb. I'm always jealous of people who let anything grow. Having plants in your house can reduce stress and improve productivity.

Which one do you want to do next year?

via WordPress bit.ly/2rW3doF

I want to live and feel all the nuances, sounds and variations of the mental and physical experience that are possible in my life. And I'm terribly limited "(Sylvia Plath)

101 hobbies for the start in 2019 – Listed by hobby types
via WordPress bit.ly/2EYKwIT

101 hobbies for the start in 2019 – Listed by hobby types
via WordPress bit.ly/2EYqcIc

Outdoor Hobbies
hike
Some of our friends are top collectors. This is a form of gathering where you will compile a list of peaks of your choice (for example, the 14's in Colorado). Take a look at our 25 best hikes in the world.
rock climbing
