Strolling Along The Canals Amsterdam, Netherlands October 9 & 10, 2022 If ever there was a city to be enjoyed walking, bicycling and boating, Amsterdam is it! Such a beautiful city. Tons of old world charm! I loved walking along the canals just absorbing the sights and sounds of the city on a lovely autumn afternoon. in love with this house This Austin home began with an awkwardly positioned pecan tree. Because the tree had protected status, homeowners Creede Fitch and his wife, who recently relocated to Texas from Salt Lake City, got the lot cheaply knowing they could make something work. But the resulting home does more than serve its purpose: Thomas Bercy of @bercy_chen_studio was able to marry Creede’s taste for midcentury and Mexican modern design with his wife’s affinity for Mediterranean and Moorish elements in a two-story cube and equally boxy guesthouse/office. Breaking the starkness of the design are patterned metal screens reminiscent of mashrabiya, an Islamic architectural element used to create privacy, passive cooling, and natural ventilation. To both incorporate and highlight the tree, Bercy turned to another Moorish reference—riads, in which interior spaces are organized around a courtyard, often with a fountain or other water feature. Here, he separated the two structures with a gravel yard and a pool, and with all but two windows facing it, the tree anchors the space as well as provides much needed shade from the hot summer sun. Have you seen such a #gorgeous #trainstation?⁠⁣⁠ ⁠⁣⁠ Welcome to #TravelTuesday my friends! This is the Antwerpen-Centraal #railway station. ⁠⁣⁠ ⁠⁣⁠ Awarded in 2014 as the most #beautiful railway station in the world by @mashable. ⁠⁣⁠ ⁠⁣⁠ We made a point to travel to #Antwerp from #Brussels via #train because (1) Kaeden & Kenzie loves trains, and (2) we really wanted to explore there as well.⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ The kids enjoyed the #trainride and taking photos at the train station. We walked around the downtown area and ate at a pub! It was hard to get a good photo of their famous square because it was filled to the brim with stalls for their #ChristmasMarket.
