I don’t know if I’ll ever reach my goal to publish a proper rewrite on Ao3, bc my brain isn’t suited to long-form writing, but in the meantime I’ve been jotting down scenes and snippets I think of, and I wanna share some already

Takes place during 1-4, in my AA HDM AU

"Well, I guess we should…" Phoenix stopped. The room was rumbling.

"W-what's that?!" He asked, startled.

"E-earthquake! Nick! It's a big one!"

"Thea? Thea!" Anne shouted, fluttering against the partition, "Phoenix, something's wrong!"

Phoenix looked and saw she was right. Alethea was writhing on the table, and Edgeworth was out of sight.

For a few terrifying moments they stayed like that, unable to do anything but try to stay upright. Then…

"I-it's calming down…" Maya said, and she was right. The shakes lessened, then stopped.

"Whew! That was scary!" Maya's voice was relieved, but Phoenix's heart was still filled with fear.

"Where's Edgeworth?" Phoenix asked, peering around the other side of the room.

"Phoenix! Phoenix, she's not moving anymore, why isn't she moving!" Anne all but threw herself at the partition, flitting, trying to get as close to Alethea as she could. "I have to help her, please, I can't, I can't get to her!"

"There!" Maya spotted him. "He's on the floor in a ball, shivering."

"I guess he doesn't do so well with earthquakes," Hansuke said.

Phoenix worried again at that. (I've heard of running, but curling up in a ball?) "E-excuse me? Officer? Could I–?"

"Sorry, sir, civilians aren't allowed back here."

"Phoenix!"

"Could you at least check on him?"

The guard nodded, walking over as Edgeworth stopped shaking.

"It seems he's passed out, sir. Wie'll get them to the infirmary."

Phoenix sighed in relief.

"Alright, thank you."

"Anne." Phoenix scooped up his frantic daemon and cradled her to his chest. "They'll be okay. We should go."

"Phoenix…" she ducked her head down close. He stroked her feathers gently. "They never… never before… she's hurting, Phoenix, and I can't…"

"The best we can do for them is build up our case, okay? We'll come back, Anne, I promise…"

"Nick?"

"Let's go, Maya. We're done here, for now."

I am not immune to HDM AUs and I cannot regulate my engagement with new interests, so I am posting what I have made in the last several days in semi-chronological order before drawing more
