With openly, I don`t mean that you necessarily need to show your teeth – smile how you want to smile – but I mean that you can open up und be “real”. Don`t try to hide behind a fake smile. Think of the camera as a friend. Also be curious: You might also learn something interesting about yourself, too, when you see the images later. The trickiest thing about smiling for a photograph is that we tend to worry about how we look. And worry and smiling don`t go well together. So let`s tackle these worries in order to free up our smiles! Firstly, we may worry about the judgement of other people. But think about your own reaction to people with an honest and relaxed smile: It makes us, as the viewer, feel relaxed and happy, too. Isn`t it, that when we see someone smiling, be it in a picture or in our everyday life, it influences our own mood? Smiling is contagious. No one with a heart is going to start judging a person’s flaws when that person is genuinely smiling. Because a true, authentic smile is overpowering everything else.
