I read it in 2005 when I was 8 and obsessed with Catscratch and almost 15 years later at age 22 I decided to rewatch the show and then as I was scouring tumblr for content I rediscovered the comic! it's so much more enjoyable as an adult currently in school for animation and made me laugh as much as I did as a kid. so thank you!

1. Which one is the better cook

David, of course! I personally hc him as having grown up without his parents around (in my fic it’s because his dad left and his mom works all the time), so he had to learn all those skills like grocery shopping, laundry, and cooking in his early teens. It also just strikes me as the cute kind of fiddly task he’d enjoy the fuck out of -- appeals to his love of useful skills and following directions, and plus it’s just kinda homey.

Gwen? Can cook enough to not die. She mostly doesn’t cook out of laziness, because she hates all the work. She doesn’t mind cooking with David though.

2. What their love letters look like

David’s are handwritten, obviously; he’s a very traditional romantic, so the idea of writing letters while sitting at his desk and gazing longingly out the window appeals to him on an aesthetic level. It’s a lot about the Mood, really. As for Gwen, she claims to only write them because she’d feel guilty if she didn’t, but she’s a sucker for a good Mood too, so she’s also pretty happy sitting somewhere with her notebook pretending she’s a heroine in a Regency-era novel. It’s canon that she handwrites things -- although that might just be because they don’t have a computer and she might not like typing on her phone -- though I could also see her typing her letters for practicality.

They both have trouble coming up with things to talk about, though. They tell each other everything as soon as it happens or they think of it, so there’s just not that much to fill the pages with. David usually fills the space with long, rambling descriptions of how happy she makes him. Gwen opts for smut.

15. What they would change about each other

Gwen would answer immediately: for him to just fucking chill about the little things that don’t matter. Not in a panic-attack-y kind of way -- she’s pretty empathetic to that sorta shit, and one of the few people who can reliably talk him down -- but the man cries at Doritos commercials. He will spend 20 minutes dithering in the cereal aisle, trying to decide whether 15 extra mg of sugar outweighs the extra dietary fiber. And god forbid she get him flowers; he loves them, and his excitement is almost painfully adorable, but he also has to hold funerals for them when they die.

Chill, David. Please. (She probably doesn’t really mean this, although it would make her life considerably easier. The more serious answer would be his tendency to neglect other people’s feelings when he’s swept up in something, but who wants serious answers?)

David . . . gosh, he’d sure have a hard time thinking of something, because Gwen is perfect! But if pressed, he would probably prefer it if Gwen turned her music down. And stopped making inappropriate jokes and references in front of the children. And threw her clothes everywhere instead of putting them away. And, while we’re thinking of stuff, stopped breaking his guitar over the heads of people who piss her off. And --

(Around this point Gwen would probably give him a look that says she’s thinking about breaking his guitar, and the conversation would abruptly end. Pobody’s nerfect and all that.)
