Rick: Michonne, wait. I’ve been wanting to say something. It’s a broken world, Michonne, and you’re the only thing that puts it back together. 'Til my last breath, I’m yours.
Michonne: I could never have imagined this. But it could only ever have been you. ……I’m yours.
wait. when rick was talking to lori on the phone in the prison he tells her he "couldn't put it back together." now, in his proposal (!!!) to michonne he tells her she's "the only one who can put it back together." is this anything
as a rule, i am not a person who typically pays a lot of attention to reviews of fiction outside of gleaning specific empirical details. this is because there are no reviewers that i follow closely and the random opinions of a stranger are wildly unlikely to tell me much of anything about how i'll feel about a piece of fiction
please consider wrt a particular strain of reviewer having mixed feelings or thinking the towl finale doesn't surpass the previous episodes
that due to the nature of this franchise there are a substantial number of people watching who fundamentally don't understand what this is
they think the echelon briefing matters. they think the crm matters. they think that there's simply no way to wrap it up in one episode because how could two people win against an entire army and beale has to be the new twdu big bad and the 500 year plan is because they have the cure and ppp means they're actually in contact with paris and blah blah blah.
if i had to predict what will happen in episode six, it would be that rick and michonne, who we have been told again and again can do anything together to the point that it terrifies those who know them and are ranged against them, are going to succeed in crippling the crm because of the power of their love for and devotion to each other, and it won't even take them that long. and the rest is going to be them getting their happy ending with their kids complete with mini-montages of the characters throughout the years as a farewell to mom and dad of the apocalypse as they effectively go into retirement to live out their life with their family because the crm was them dealing with all of this shit for the last time.
this is an ending that would make me weep like a baby until i dehydrate myself.
this is also an ending that many people, even if they were very happy for rick and michonne, would find anticlimactic and disappointing because they have ip brain poisoning and think in terms of franchises and interconnected cinematic universes and perpetual continuations and the attendant necessity for every conflict to balloon and become a protracted battle with the latest ultimate villain.
there are many people who will fundamentally find it to be a letdown if this series, proposed conceived and presented as a love story, is executed like one.
NO because Rick hallucinated Michonne on the bridge and they kissed on their knees and then Rick PROPOSED to Michonne in the woods and they were on their knees and I’m unwell 🫠
Michonne: Hi,.....hi. How are you doing? Why are you so big?
Judith: I knew it dad. I knew you were still out there dad.
RJ: You're the brave man?
Rick: I am.........but maybe you can call me dad.
How beautiful is it that after years of being married, and even staying loyally in love while apart for nearly a decade, my babies wanted to make it official. 🥳
Hearing them both say “I’m yours” 😭 So many richonne moments in towl ep 5 elated me to no end, from “I was in love with my son’s best friend” 🫠 to “It’s a broken world, Michonne. And you’re the only thing that puts it back together.” 😍 And then the proposal. The direct, no subtext needed, on one knee with a ring, “until my last breath, I am yours,” “it could only ever have been you” proposal. 🥳 I’ll never get over it.
Richonne is the ultimate love story. And the way we win every second Rick and Michonne have ever been on screen together is just the absolute best.
A short series entailing the harrowing journey of Rick Grimes and Alara Hunter, an unexpected pair who first meet in the CRM.
The CRM had a growing need to replenish its soldiers who were dwindling in numbers. Despite the thousands of citizens they have sworn to protect, it seemed no one was good enough to fight alongside them.
They needed soldiers, yet all they had were civilians clinging onto the echoes of a life long passed.
That was when a proposal was made - controlled re-population.
A programme where criminals who were too precious and too skilled to be sentenced to death were paired with the CRM's most formidable soldiers to create the perfect offspring, ready for the CRM to mould them into the perfect soldier.
But first, they needed a trial.
And who better than the Rick Grimes and Alara Hunter.
One is the CRM's most notorious soldier who was known for his escape attempts at every turn.
The other is the CRM's greatest threat, every bone in her body aching for revenge.
What better way to tie a man down than hold a noose around his child's throat and force him to stay.
What better way to control a threat than to steal what is most precious and hold it hostage.
Chapter I
Chapter II
In this, AU Rick and Michonne were never together, Rick just wants to return to Alexandria for his daughter and friends.
There will be themes of dub-con at the start of this series.
I'm so glad Michonne isn't wearing that ring in any of scenes from the new teaser, even when she's in the car after reuniting with Rick. Hopefully this means that she can finally get a new ring if/when Rick proposes to her in the spinoff. This would be the dream. If Maggie and Carol can get marriage proposals so can Michonne.
So we see Rick refer to Michonne as his wife, but we never explicitly got a proposal scene/marriage.
And we know that pre-apocalypse, Michonne was in a long-term relationship with a child but was not married. So I decided, because it amuses me, that Michonne was just not really into marriage as a concept- "A piece of paper doesn't define our love" type. Plus as a former lawyer, maybe she saw a bunch of miserable divorces and didn't want to be part of that.
However, Rick Grimes is a certified traditional country boy and wife guy so in my head he proposed to her every 52 hours and she was just like no??? What does that even mean anymore? Who is going to marry us? Gabriel?!? That fucking weirdo??? but eventually he wore her down and successfully proposed to her with a ring on the collar of yet another cat statue.
(If any fic authors want to run with this...I wouldn't be mad)
