Mages & Magics
magic – lifeforce/souls/energy/whatever
questions: how prolific is it?  who can wield it?  how is it generally regarded?  is it generally known about?
amulets/talismans – we already have some of these: power sources.  dezod’s house and rob and cassius’ dragons are all examples of this.  really, so are all living things, in a sense.  in any case, withdrawing power/lifeforce/energy/whatever from one being and putting into into something else creates an object (or being in the case of rochilda/safira at the end of the conflagration and rowena’s dragons) of power.  good mages could also make these by placing a part of themselves in them, but they’re probs primarily crafted by dark mages for obv reasons.
questions: can non-sorcerers wield such objects? how many of these are known out in the world? if multiples, can we form a plotline out of this – the resistance seeking these objects of power in order to fight back?
alternate species – only non-humanoid examples.  dragons certainly exist and, for example, gryffins and phoenixes may also, as they are the emblems of great houses, etc
questions: what alternate species are real?  where do they exist?  are they extinct/underground/extant?
mages – some are born with it, such as ric, dezod, and avina, but most people are not (exception: have it thrust upon them aka helena).  the only learnable form of magic is dark magic.
questions: what makes it dark? (presumably a taboo against disturbing the gods’ chosen order?) what, precisely, besides healing and gaining more power, can be achieved by the use of magic? are herbs and potions used or is it simply an act of the will? are there words of power?  staffs (i absolutely object to wands)? any sort of totems?  what is known, generally, about magic and its wielders?

Ch 31 will be uploaded tomorrow (Thursday)!
Here’s a sneak peak because I love this part and I have trouble waiting when I’m excited:
As they walked back into the castle, further down a corridor that was not very well-lit as the rain began to pound harder against the stone walls and thunder sounded from a distance, her uncle told her seriously, “They say Rosby is haunted.” Aly’s brows knitted together. “I’ve never heard that.” Aegon nodded his head and hummed quietly. “Rochilda Rosby went mad with grief when she heard that her husband drank a goblet of hemlock out of his loyalty to Maegor. I overheard Raymun tell Alarra at the feast that some nights you can hear her cries in the corridors.” He stopped suddenly and faced Aly, looking behind her, his eyes wide. “Did you hear that?” Aly turned around, face skeptical. All that lay ahead of her was a dark, empty hall. She took a few steps forward, but the only sounds she heard came from the storm outside. “I don’t hear anything unusual,” she said, still not turning around to look at him. To prove to him that Raymun probably only told that story to Alarra to force her to cling to him in the night. Something grabbed her around her waist right as a crack of thunder sounded from right above them, startling her. Aly gasped in surprise as she jumped, whirling around to see Aegon right in front of her, laughing at her. “That was not funny,” she chided. Her nerves were still in her throat, and her heartbeat still fast, but Aly could not stop the grin from forming on her face at her uncle’s jape, nor the laughter that spilled from her own lips a few moments later.

Religion in Aragoth
There are thirteen gods (well twelve ~true gods and the demon god). Aragoth has only this one religion. The gods do not take an active role (they don’t appear/make themselves known) and there are definitely a lot of people who don’t believe in them anymore.  Most people have one or two gods that they identify with and pray to the most.
The Creator: The maker of everything, including the other gods. It is said that he was a dragon who roamed the empty night skies until he created the earth with his dragonfire. Dragons are also a religious symbol, as well as the sigil for House Godiva. Dragon RIders are said to be The Creator’s protectors of earth.
The Ruler: God of lords and kings.
The Mother: Goddess of families. She is a favorite of mothers who pray to her to keep their children and families safe.
The Orphan: Goddess of parentless children. Prayed to by those who have lost their families and are alone. Also parents look to her when they lose their children (either to death or if they physically go missing).
The Hero: God of chivalry and great deeds. A favorite amongst knights, soldiers and young boys.
The Explorer: God of travel and adventure. Prayed to when you are making a journey.
The Rebel: God of those brave enough to oppose a bad king (or queen). This god isn’t one that most kings like to hear that people are praying to. It is a god only prayed to in times of unrest and obviously he’s someone that the resistances pray to often.
The Innocent: Goddess of young maids and children.
The Lover: Goddess of love – both romantic and otherwise.
The Sorcerer: God of magic. He is the one who bestows natural magical abilities onto those who have it. Those who don’t have any magical abilities and wish to learn often pray to him. Some religious men and women believe that trying to learn magic when you are not born with it is unnatural and offensive since surely The Sorcerer would have given you the abilities if he thought you should have them.
The Jester: Goddess of happiness, celebrations, and wit. Everyone would pray to The Jester for happiness if she did not have a reputation for having a bit of a mischievous side. When praying to her, be careful what you wish for, for it is said that she often purposefully misinterprets your prayers. Some religious believe that this is false and that she will only bestow happiness on you if you truly deserve it.
The Sage: Goddess of advice and council.
The Demon God: Once it was his duty to harbor the souls from the world to heaven. He was known as the god of Death. He was often considered the least powerful of all the gods. To prove that he was not, he created hell and became its master. He was cast out of heaven, for only The Creator may create. The Demon god gains all of his power from human souls. He gets souls when 1) they are sacrificed to him, either directly like Rochilda Thaon or in immortality spells such as Rowena Godiva preforms or 2) when someone with a truly black heart dies, he claims them. If the demon god should ever gain enough souls, it’s said that he could reclaim his seat in the heavens and cast out all the other gods. Followers like Rochilda Thaon who help him accomplish this, are promised high seats should this ever come about, but anyone who knows anything about the demon god, is that he is a made of false promises …

@lordspreyer is here to save our souls... and maybe some ghosts, too
"It's horrible."
They were sitting in the kitchen, drinking tea from perfect cups that were never for anyone, but only for special guests. Little whites with a gold border and a handle made to look like a grapevine. Mamma always said that a real lady should have a set of dishes that she would not be ashamed to show to her guests. The set came from the mother and, following the rule, was given only when there was a reason for it. Rochilda took care of it as a dog protects its bone. Tim once had the imprudence to touch the glass doors and leave fingerprints on them. She didn't speak to him for a whole week and only cooled down later when he took her to a fancy restaurant in the city.
Rochilda's life was perfect. Nice house, two children and a husband. Rochilda didn't work, she was one of those women who considered taking care of the house a real job. She believed that only the best worker could keep such a house perfect and clean. Wet cleaning every week, every two weeks the ceilings and every corner were washed, not a single spider had time to build a web. Rochilda was one of those big women who liked to control everything around them. And Roshilda herself looked to match her character and desire to control everything.
"At first I thought they were rats. I hate rats," Rochilda's plump face turned into a crumpled apple. “Our neighbors had them once,” she looked at the priest with a glance, as if he knew about local gossip. "I thought that my husband was making jokes at me. He used to put pranks on me when we were younger. I began to hear giggles, someone’s voice, things began to disappear. I found even bitten food once!" she exclaimed as if spoiled food worried her the most. “And then it began to seem to me that there was someone in the house. Once I looked back, I could've sworn something ran past my eyes. My husband says that I’ve lost my mind, but I know that I don't imagine things!"
Rochilda glanced at the priest. He was young and handsome, which reminded her that her husband was not young and handsome anymore.
"Please, holy father!" she squeezed the priest's hand in her plump palm. "You are the only one who came here!"

we also don’t want cassius doin nothin except waiting around for roran and, while we’ve got more for him to do currently than rowena, still thought id ~rustle up some potentials too so let the brainstorming commence!
following a lead that ultimately brings him and/or the audience to the dragon eggs that the thorels find -- perhaps we have him finally say smth like ‘i know now they’re in the wastes of the north’ or whatever and then the camera cuts to those same tundra scenes and shows two children stumbling upon them this might even lead to a subplot wherein cassius and the thorels have some uhhhhh ~fun interactions oops
which could also be interesting if we do end up pursuing the [ vysovan bolt plot ]
speaking of which, if dezod taps rowena about the vysovan bolt idea, cassius is likely involved in that...but also he def!!!! is!!! not!!! a!!! fan!!! of this whole notion not bc of the danger to himself (we all know he has smth of a death wish anyway) but bc he’s not super sold on dragon murder and wait you may say didn’t he slay tons of dragons personally and doens’t he continue to attack them? yes!! dragon on dragon violence is fine bc there’s a fighting chance but just shooting them out of the sky nO in his book ig we all gotta know where we draw that line in the sand smdh plus he’s concerned about the future of aragoth w that -- things weren’t too amazing back in the old days when this tech was around and the future’s looking bleaker and bleaker all the time
(maybe before we even know that cassius grew up hella poor in the north, himself,) we see him quietly doing some good up there for ppl in need, anonymously leaving them bread and coin etc and no one ever knows it was him bc that’s his style tbqh -- make your atrocities common knowledge and your good deeds secrets you take to the grave ig <3
i think id already mentioned but cassius vs rochilda (and subsequently rochilda!safira depending how we execute that bc idr atm tbh) seems like smth that’d def happen -- literally fighting fire w fire whoops

ok so ur favorite odr co-author had some thoughts on a walk today but ur least favorite odr co-author went and forgot most of them aljsfkdjf let me see what i can remember ksljfkljdf
cassius
we already know everybody’s best pal, king cassius lowkey knows for much of the plot that guin is a dbl agent lkasdjfkjsdf i feel like part of cassius’ motivation for staying on the wrong side for so long is actually kinda noble (except...yknow...there was more he coulda done if he’d left rowena but here we are) in the sense that...ok so i think cassius as of 1.01 sees himself as standing between a selfish, heedless, worthless council and the ppl of aragoth and, tho he knows they hate him, he feels that now that he’s deprived them of all their other dragonrider defenders, it falls to him to look out for them.  at first, he tries to deceive himself that rowena’s still ~getting things together~ before she launches all those great reforms they talked about!!!! but even as recently as 1.01 he’s pr deeply disenchanted w her and those dreams ever coming to fruition so he feels 1) if he deviates from his course he killed all his friends for nothing 2) he’s abandoning the ppl to the cold mercy of a council that’s ruling only for themselves
so!!! that’s where guin comes in!!!! and idk maybe we’d already come up w this but??????? maybe sometimes he actually like feeds her info so the resistance can do this or that thing which might benefit the ppl?????? smh of course there’s also tons he tries to keep from her etc its a whole thing but yeah!!!!
also, since cassius isn’t a dark sorcerer in his own right, perhaps (in addition to the sacrifices or not??? idk??) its his connection to rowena that’s keeping him alive ever since he yknow took all those mortal wounds in the purge.  this is another reason he remains loyal so long -- and it also means that, when he does decide to take a stand against her, he does so knowing full well that he ~will die of the wounds his friends once inflicted
safira/”rochilda”
so our friend cassius is from the north ++ his main squeeze ends up moving to a really cozy ruin up there askdjfkjsf so maybe cassius is in some way in investigating some of safira’s doings in s2/3 and perhaps they even have some sort of showdown asp that foreshadows cassius vs rowena????? maybe she tries to sacrifice guin or one of cassius’ many family members and cassius aint having nonE of it???? or maybe he’s just, yknow, of the opinion that burning innocent ppl to death isn’t he nicest way to be???? isklfjkljaf either way, idk why i didn’t think of it before but i deffff feel like cassius would feel that its his duty as a rider to ~interfere and i defffff feel like that could go super badly and make some interesting tv
cordelia
when cordelia ends up being dispatched north, perhaps its w an ‘honor guard’ that’s actually supposed to assassinate her if it seems like she might be about to pull an arthur/lynessa bc i deffff feellike by this time rowena’s entering her paranoid stage (tbf, cordelia ~does end up turning against her tho so she’s not wrong lksjfklsjf) and she aint taking no more chances just bc ppl are family and have never betrayed her ~before anyway cordelia plays dumb but she knows perfectly well what’s up.  however, she’s also been sent there and now the north is hers and she’ll be damned if she doesn’t make things better!!!! so basically she does her ruling apprenticeship phase -- helping to encourage craftsmanship, invigorate trade w the east and west, give the needy food and shelter, try to make repairs to all the post-rowlin/safira damage, and generally repair the north so she’s got challenges on both sides to spice it up -- assassins who’re supposedly her protectors (who she probs ultimately wins to her side bc...i mean...i feel like rowena is noT the best employer atp tbqh), scared and angry ppl who need food and shelter, etc, and learns about loyalty and her impact etc etc etc
just thought of this, re: her honor guard, but if we wanna bring tristan/ophelia back in, this might be a good place but idk if we even wanna do that
lord commander elections
ok idr where i was going w this ~exactly but i remember thinking oh!! gotta remember about lord commander elections!!!! askjfskldfjds i do know that i was thinking that perhaps the dragonriders elected their lord commanders (i think we’d already discussed that?) and basically it ends up going from charles --> roran potentially and slkfjksljf my emotions but also!! imagine, once rob bc a dragonrider, rowena is like ‘you two are the legit riders!! since they’re out there electing false lord commanders, you should elect the REAL lord commander!!’ and basically its this ridiculous scene of two men alone in a room, each voting for himself and coming to a stalemate alksjfklsdjfs but anyway!! idk what the actual plots was anymore laksjfljfsdf
oh wait maybe it had to do with [ this ]????
there was def more!!!! i think i had avina and ric and dezod and rowena thoughts and probs some others but...this is what made it out alive so make of this what you will i suppose

Yours, Mine, & Ours ;D: Compositing Safira & Rochilda???
yours truly has, on brand, had a crazy idea which might be terrible but what if...we composite safira and rochilda??  i was thinking about them and i realized they are at the very least foils, i mean:
rochilda accidentally burned her family member(s) (tba) to death and went on a search for a value system (demonism) that would enable her to live w herself which brought her to magic
safira found magic and went back and intentionally murdered her family in order to validate the value system she’d aligned with (pleasing dezod)
rochilda grew up feeling powerless bc of a magic she could not understand or control
safira grew up feeling powerless bc she didn’t have any power
both have a dark master (dezod, the demon god) and would do literally anything to please said master and believe endlessly in him
now, it is useful to have a demon god true believer(tm) to help explain things so!! if we go w this, we could put that on alivia, make safira a true believer, or else make safira and rochilda separate characters...in the beginning -- what do i mean by this??
at the end of s2, safira is beaten and clinging to life, etc., after her battle w rowena.  instead of being killed she fakes her death and/or just straight up escapes idk buT it is then that she shows up in the north, face-to-face with rochilda...and sucks the life out of her in order to restore herself ++ assuming her powers...and takes her visage.  so its safira who consumes the conflagration, etc...and unfortunately that would also mean its safira that gets eaten by dezod dlksafjksldjf which...oof
(safira, seeing dezod right after she’s consumed the conflagration like ‘look what ive done, im so powerful now, etc’ dezod ‘yes, safira, you’ve done very well’ *bites into her* ksdlfjksjdf yikes)
anyway!! idk if any of this is a good idea or not buuuut it came to me so you had to hear about it
edit: if we go w the safira killing and taking rochilda’s form thing, it could also serve as foreshadowing for the cassius/rowena & roran/dezod showdown -- fire magic vs dark magic so we already know that fire can’t beat magic...or can it ;DDD

as possible conflagration foreshadowing, show magic users going to places of ‘great magical calamity’ where many souls were sacrificed or smth to draw off the residual power -- and then, later, we get to see such a cataclysm, ourselves, or smth??? idk

S1!Dezod
thinkin about what dezod’s up to in s1 -- since we’ve got a fairly clear outline of his main plotlines for the other seasons but not so much s1 -- and obv he’s tryna bring about s4 (thanks for bein’ on board w our plot, dezod!! you absolute legend!! ;D) but i feel like he probs has a couple main things!!
messing w helena
why??? poor helena??? ill tell you why!! helena is a huuuuge danger to him -- he probs knows that she’s the one who can 1) find out about his house and 2) get the info to avina via their ~connection which is what leads to his doom
tbf, we might have a fun lil plotline for him learning the details of this so its clear why/how he doesn’t instantly stop it
but he probs comprehends at least the overarching sense of danger from her
im also thinkin that this is part of why he made her sick, probs moreso even than messing w rowena, tho that was yet another fun side benefit!!
he also knows that he has to keep helena alive as long as possible bc that’ll be rowena’s last big motivator and she’s the only thing that can kill roran, so!!
dezod got lotsa thoughts and feelings bout helena
1.02 offers a nice place to start delving into this re: rowena asking deozd (and cassius) about helena’s dreams
he also might be giving her some of her dreams of charles, if we want??? (tho i guess indirectly he does anyway regardless since he’s the one who linked her to dragons...)
maneuvering the e resistance...elsewhere!!
im thinking maybe ~he doesn’t know where the scrolls w their tell-all about his house are bc otherwise he wouldn’t esp like them going west!!
(cue a lil plotline dealing w him looking for them???)
however, he needs charles and roran to go south obv which happens bc they hear rumors of another dragonrider in the south while they’re in the west so!!
generally manipulating/maneuvering his key players: cassius, rowena, the resistance members (present and future)
his energy’s just gon be pure chaos honestly to the audience the first time they watch s1 i feel like
bc he’ll be on all sides equally creating and fixing trouble and ppl just ???? anyway!! that’s all so on brand for him heehee
he wants rowena feeling more and more threatened and isolated
possibly he summons safira and FOR that purpose???
cassius feeling more and more like there’s no point to fighting back/taking another side (bc he’s the only thing that can stop rowena and rowena’s the only thing that can stop roran and roran’s the only thing that can stop dezod...)
helena to straight up die...but at a SUPER precise moment in time
^^ same w roran and charles, etc
guin + co to go north and help create tension there w rochilda which’ll help lead to the conflagrations where dezod ends up recharging his power batteries w all them tasty, tasty barbecued souls...
jon/team beaumont to create their chaos which will ultimately result in lynessa’s rebellion and rowena feeling super isolated etc as well as scattering rowena’s more helpful council members *cough* alex *cough* and ultimately also certain beaumonts which also contributes to the above chaos
s1 he’s super, super plot-compliant actually!! so he’s def there to make anything happen that we want to happen!!! bc he wants it too -- he’s actively striving to create the circumstances of s4!! so dezod’s really here to make our plot happen!!

Dezod Thoughts????
So, as you know, I’ve been reworking Dezod so he’s not so derivative.  I’m changing lots about how he presents himself and how he thinks but the details that came entirely from the rp I’m keeping.  So I’m leaving a lot of his backstory in place: born a sorcerer a la Ric, was betrayed and got massacred, sought revenge, he sold his soul to the demon and drank the blood of a Thaon witch and gained many additional powers via dark magic including foresight and possibly some elemental magic, was involved in one of the many revolutions in Aragothi history as a mortal man...(tho this was so v long ago, idk if ppl really remember that it happened anymore - like the Roman Sack of Jerusalem: ppl know it happened but not much more than that or who was involved.), etc.  Plus, I def don’t think ppl know that Daerion and Dezod are the same being.
Anyway, my thought is that a couple of things came together to make Dezod the way he is, now.  In addition to all that I mentioned above, I was thinking maybe he actually died and was brought back and so there’s this discord (in addition to the sort of madness that comes w dark magic ++ the sold-his-soul thing) between [ who he was and who he ~is ] and that’s part of why he’s so erratic and part of why he both helps and hinders both sides hahaha  Also, like, he’s ~been to hell, if he’s died, so that is probs yet another tick in the driven-mad box hahaha AND he gets to know that, when he dies again, he’s going back *thumbs up*  Anyway, already being dead ++ being magical ++ being sworn to the demon are all things that would make him hard to kill, I’d imagine hahaha so yeah that might be part of why he’s the Big Boss at the end, so to speak?
That also makes what happens to Ana foreshadowing for what we find out about Dezod and idk how I feel about that.  Like, I can see where it’d feel like a great pay-off to that plot or where it might be weird????  Idk?????  What do you think of this whole thing??????

More Meeting Questions
What does reanimated!Ana do, plot-wise?  How does she act?  What becomes of her?
Now that we’ve re-introduced the Castillons, Wystans, etc., we should discuss their ultimate fate.
We should figure out s5 a little more beyond just the ultimate fates of the characters still alive by then (tho this might come from further working out the intermittent seasons).
What’s Alaric’s ultimate disposition?
We should also figure out the fates of our more newly acquired characters.
What’s a satisfying way to wrap up the religious/elemental plots esp as showcased in the Southern Isles.  For example, for the demon god, there are the burnings, etc.
Also, we should chat a bit about the juxtaposition between the holy fire of the dragons, as symbolic of the creator, and the unholy fires of Rochilda held in honor of the demon, etc.
We should also chat about any potential relationships we’d like to explore (romantic or no)
We should also figure out how we wanna wrap up things - for example, Evie’s dying, how do we want to leave her various relationships, etc.
