Zomato will go public tomorrow
July 23rd will mark a historic day for India’s startup ecosystem as Zomato food delivery platform makes its highly anticipated debut on the domestic stock exchanges.
The Gurugram-based firm originally planned to record on July 27, but has now postponed it until tomorrow, ET reported Wednesday evening.
More than 40 times oversubscribed: Last week, Zomato launched the first domestic IPO of an Indian startup unicorn. The issue was subscribed 40.38 times and generated demand of Rs 2.13 lakh crore, the highest for a domestic IPO in 11 years and the third highest in the history of the Indian capital market.
The IPO, which opened on July 14 and completed on July 16, also set a record for anchor investors and attracted the second highest number of registrations of all time. The allocation of the IPO share allocation to investors took place today (June 22nd).
IPO offer: The issue included fresh equity valued at Rs 9,000 billion and an Selling Offer (OFS) valued at Rs 375 billion from existing investor Info Edge (India). At the high end of the price range, the company will have a market cap of nearly Rs 64,500 billion. Prior to going public, Zomato had raised Rs 4.197 billion from 186 anchor investors by allocating 552.2 million shares at Rs 76 each.
India’s startup ecosystem has been closely watching Zomato’s IPO performance as it could set the tone for a number of other companies including Paytm, Policybazaar and Mobikwik.

BlackBuck goes to the unicorn club
The online trucking platform BlackBuck became the newest member of the Indian startup unicorn club.
Push the news: BlackBuck raised $ 67 million in a round led by Silicon Valley-based venture fund Tribe Capital, IFC Emerging Asia Fund, and VEF, which valued the startup at over $ 1 billion. The company was previously valued at approximately $ 850 million on its last fundraising in 2019.
BlackBuck has increased nearly $ 300 million since it was founded through a mixture of equity and debt financing. Investors also include Accel, Apoletto Asia, B Capital, Flipkart and Goldman Sachs.
Where should the money go? The company will use the money to expand its customer base and introduce new services. Rajesh Yabaji, co-founder and CEO of BlackBuck, said the company will invest heavily in product and data science capabilities to achieve better freight matching efficiency for the Indian trucking ecosystem. The startup will also be scaling its financial services and insurance offerings through partnerships.
This funding comes as a company sees a shift in demandwith most of it no longer coming from large corporations but from small businesses, brokers, and large corporations. “In the past two years, digital adoption has increased … we’ve seen 20x growth on the supply side and 10x growth in demand,” said Yabaji.
big picture: It’s been a record year for domestic startups, raising $ 12.1 billion from venture capitalists and private equity firms in just the first six months. India’s startups cost $ 11 billion in all of 2020, according to Venture Intelligence.
The continued flow of cash amid high valuations has also helped catapult a record number of startups into the Unicorn club.

RBI says the digital rupee will be rolled out gradually
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is working on a “phased introduction” of the Central Bank of India’s (CBDC) digital currency and a pilot project to test a general purpose digital currency is possible in the near future, RBI Deputy Governor T Rabi Shankar said on Thursday.
What is a CBDC? CBDC is a form of virtual currency issued by a central bank as an alternative to physical currency. In contrast to cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, CBDCs are covered by the state reserves of nation states and are therefore not subject to the same volatility.
Enable legal framework: In order to launch India’s CBDC, RBI is reviewing several legal frameworks, including amendments to several sections of the RBI Act, the Coin Act 2011, the Foreign Exchange Administration Act, and the Information and Technology Act.
What are the advantages? Shankar said a CBDC would reduce reliance on cash, lower the cost of printing cash, and provide a more robust settlement mechanism. Another key benefit is the elimination of “time zone differences” in foreign exchange transactions, which could pave the way for a cheaper and smoother international settlement system.
meanwhileAt the other end of the world, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on Wednesday that they will likely accept Bitcoin as a payment option again after carefully considering the amount of renewable energy used to mine the currency.
Musk noticed that too he and his space company SpaceX also own Bitcoinapart from Tesla. Musk also owns Ethereum and Dogecoin in his personal capacity.
Catch up quickly: Tesla bought about $ 1.5 billion in Bitcoin in February and announced it would accept the digital coin as a payment option. But in May, Musk announced on Twitter that Tesla would end this initiative, citing concerns about the “rapidly increasing use of fossil fuels for Bitcoin mining and transactions.”
That move had triggered a bitcoin route, with the cryptocurrency falling nearly 17% within hours of the tweet. It also sparked allegations of “price manipulation,” which Musk denied last month.
On Wednesday, Musk said, “I could pump, but I’m not caving in … I definitely don’t believe in pushing the price up and selling or anything like that. I want to see Bitcoin successful. “
CCI accuses Amazon of hiding facts about the Future Group deal
In a notice to Amazon, India’s competition regulator accused the company of hiding facts and providing false information while seeking approval to invest in a Future Group unit, Reuters reports.
The deal: Amazon had agreed to acquire a 49% stake in Future Coupons, a promoter of Future Retail, for around 1,500 billion rupees in August 2019. The firm is currently involved in a lawsuit with Future Group and Reliance Industries after the latter took over Future Group’s retail and wholesale business.
Amazon has argued in court that the terms of its 2019 deal prevent Future Group from selling Future Retail to Reliance.
CCI notice: The Competition Commission of India (CCI) announced in a June 4 announcement that the US e-commerce major had failed to disclose its strategic interest in Future Retail when it applied for approval for the 2019 deal. “The representations and behavior of Amazon before the Commission represent false information, false information and the suppression and / and concealment of essential facts,” it says in the communication.
CCI has now asked Amazon why it shouldn’t punish the company.
What is Amazon saying? Amazon confirmed to Reuters that it has received the notice and will extend its full cooperation to the CCI. The company said it was “confident that we can address the concerns of the Chamber of Commerce”.
What’s next? If CCI isn’t happy with Amazon’s response, it could fine the company and also review its deal with the Future Group, Vaibhav Choukse, partner at J Sagar Associates, told Reuters.
Large retailers are seeing a 2- to 9-fold increase in online sales
India’s largest brick and mortar retailers are seeing a huge shift in consumer behavior as more people shop online amid the pandemic.
What’s happening? Reliance Retail, DMart, Croma, Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail and Spencer’s Retail increased their online sales by 2 to 9-fold in 2020-21, although many of their stores either remained closed due to Covid-19 restrictions or had restricted their operations. This is based on disclosures made in their annual reports and presentations to investors.
For India’s largest retailer Trust retail, accounted for the e-commerce business about 10% of sales by the end of FY21, down from almost zero last year. The growth was led by the company’s own platforms Jiomart and Ajio.com as well as acquired startups such as Netmeds, Urban Ladder and Zivame.
Devendra Chawla, managing director of Spencers Retail and Nature’s Basket, said online sales accounted for up to 30-40% of their total sales during the peak months of the lockdown.

CHENNAI: Prithvi Shaw’s elegant strokeplay (64 off 43 balls) and a disciplined all-round bowling performance helped Delhi Capitals make it two wins out of two in IPL-13. Having scored 175/3 from their 20 overs riding on Shaw’s effort, Delhi restricted Chennai Super Kings to 131/7 and notched up a 44-run win in Dubai on Friday.
For the second time in succession, CSK left themselves with too much to do in the run chase. MS Dhoni walked in to bat in the 16th over when 78 were needed off 26 balls. He was dismissed for 15 off 12 balls in the final over. Clearly, CSK need Dhoni to do more with the bat in the coming games.

Unlike the CSK spinners who disappointed once again, the DC tweakers – Axar and Amit Mishra – stood up to the occasion and stifled the opposition batsmen. In eight overs between them, they conceded only 41 runs for one wicket.
CSK’s opening partnership continued to be a problem on Friday. Both Shane Watson (14) and M Vijay (10) fell within the Powerplay as CSK limped to 34/2 after six overs. Watson inexplicably fell to Axar Patel for the sixth time in his career. It soon became worse for CSK when the inexperienced Ruturaj Gaikwad was run out for 5 to give DC their third wicket.

At 47/3 in 10 overs, CSK were in desperate need to bring the asking rate down. While they got a few boundaries away in the latter half, it wasn’t good enough.
It was Shaw who set up the platform for Delhi with a blistering knock. And yet, CSK had managed to pull things back in the final 10 overs. After conceding 88/0 in the first 10 overs, after all, only 87 runs were given away in the final 10.
While Rishabh Pant finished unbeaten on 37 off 25 balls, skipper Shreyas Iyer managed just 26 off 22 balls. Marcus Stoinis, who hit 53 in the previous game for Delhi, faced just three balls. For CSK, seamers Sam Curran (4-0-27-1) and Josh Hazlewood (4-0-28-0) were the pick of the bowlers.
CSK did not take any wickets in the opening six overs, but they kept the run rate under control as DC reached 36/0. Once the fielding restrictions eased, though, the DC openers opened their shoulders. While Shaw took a liking to Piyush Chawla and hit some delightful boundaries through the off-side, Dhawan did not let Ravindra Jadeja settle.
Dhoni’s move, however, to keep his spinners on was rewarded with the wickets of Dhawan and Shaw in quick succession. It was Chawla who removed both the openers, finding redemption as he finished with figures of 4-0-33-2.
Regardless, the spinners’ form seems to be a matter of concern for CSK. Both Jadeja and Chawla were guilty of bowling too short on occasions and allowing Shaw in particular to punish them with the cut shot.
Shaw did have a lucky break on just the second ball of the innings. Shaw got an inside edge through to Dhoni off an away swinger by Chahar. CSK chose to not appeal, but replays showed that there was a slight edge. If Shaw had been given out then, things could well have been far easier for the men in yellow.

Final ODI between England and Australia started in dramatic fashion. Starc dismissed Roy and Root of first 2 balls of the match. Bairstow and then steadied the ship with a 67 run stand before Zampa put Australia ahead again. He dismissed Morgan and Butler in his first spell. Australia 96-4. Billings and Bairstow then took the attach to Australia with 114 run stand in 19 overs. Bairstow scored a breezy century. Woakes and Billings scored brisk fifties to take England to 302-7 by end of 50 overs. Australia kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Woakes and dream spell by Root helped England reduce Australia to 73-5. The delivery which Root bowled to castle Warner was a dream ball for any spinner. He bowled around the wicket. IPL 2020 finally kick started in UAE. CSK won the toss and chose to bowl against MI. Rohit and Quinton gave a brisk start In 4.3 overs they were 44-0 before Chawla dismissed Rohit for 12. In very next over Sam Curran dismissed Quinton for 33. SA keeper looked in great touch. MI 48-2. Suryakumar and Saurabh Tiwary then steadied ship for MI. They had 44 run stand before Deepak Chahar dismissed Suryakumar. Tiwary then hit a few lusty blows. He and Hardik took MI past 100. They were past 120 by the time 14 overs was done. 180 looked set. Jadeja turned the match on its head. Faf grabbed 2 brilliant catches. Hardik and Tiwary were dismissed in the same over. MI lost way post that. They just managed 162. That looked 20 runs start. MI don’t have Malinga this year which puts lots of pressure on Bumrah. Boult and Pattinson gave Mi a dream start as they reduced CSK to 6-2 in 2 overs. Rayadu and Faf then showed maturity to play with caution earlier and then open up. Once dew started coming in, it was tough for bowlers. Rayadu showed his intent and form when he clubbed Bumrah for a six. Bumrah has struggled to bowl yorkers this year which was evident in NZ tour as well. Bumrah outside yorker is not as lethal and it showed. Spinners couldn’t grip the ball. Mi spinners are not as classy as their CSK counterparts. Rayadu’s 71 and his 115 run stand took CSK closer to victory. Jadeja and Sam Curran came and played great cameos which helped keep run rate under control. Faf then finished off the match in style. MI have now lost first IPL game in 8 consecutive IPLs. CSK have finally beaten MI after losing last 4 matches against them. MSD’s charm is clear to see but star of the day was Rayadu. He made a clear statement and showed selectors what India probably lacked in SF. Ind were at 6-2 then as well and had Rayadu played, he would have batted at number 4. India picked Pant and Vijay ahead of Rayadu and rest is history.
In Italian open, Nadal started off with easy wins against Busta and Lajovic to storm to QF where clashed against Schwartzman. Nadal looked rusty in QF. His serve was pretty poor. He had a dismal 47% first serve percentage. He held serve only 4 times in the match. Result is Schwartzman shocked Nadal 6-2 7-5. Schwartzman was leading 4-2 in 2nd and even served for the match at 5-4. Nadal levelled both the times but eventually his serve deserted him. Clay season being played in early winter is a different proposition. Courts would be heavier which is not the conditions Nadal excels in. Schwartzman would face Shapovalov in SF who outclassed Dimitrov in 3 sets. Djokovic had a tougher route but still reached QF without losing a set. In QF too he was tested by Koepfer. He was up by a set and a break before he lost focus. He won in 3 sets to reach SF. Berretteni was shocked by Ruud in QF. Berrettini was up 4-2 in final set tie breaker before losing it 5-7.
In US open golf, Justin Thomas started off with a great round of 67. He was first round leader as well. Reed , Pieters and Wolff were 1 behind by end of round 1. Mcolroy and Westwood had good solid round of 69 each, 2 behind leader. 2nd round was the opposite. Due to breezy conditions, most of the players struggled. Mcolroy and Westwood had 6 over par round and went out of contention. Woods even missed the cut. Reed had a even par round to be sole leader post round 2. De Chambreau was one shot behind. English, Thomas and Cabrera were 2 shot behind Reed. Baring Carbera, rest of top 5 were all Americans. It’s a typical US open course where Europeans tend to struggle. If player misses the greens, then it’s a long battle ahead. More than big hitting stars, it needs accurate tee shots. If 2nd round was tough, 3rd got even worse. Mcllroy got back to contention with a 2 under round. He ended round 3 at 1 over par. Justin Thomas threw himself out of contention with 6 over par round. Only 3 players ended day 3 at under par. Oosthuizen had a 2 under par round with overall score of 1 under par. DeChambeau had a gritty even par round to have overall score of 3 under par. Matthew Wolff had a dream round of 5 under par to have overall score of 5 under par. He is clear favourite to win the title . But final round and especially back nine could play strange games. So all 3 players under par, English , Matsyuma( both at par) and Mcllroy are in contention to win the major. Wolff who is playing his first US open looks a clear favorite though
