I've loved seeing everyone post about their fankids in the fandom lately! I forgot how fun it is to draw my Sonadow kiddo: Spark the Sable. Hope you enjoy these sketches!

They could care less that their father and dad have saved Earth more times than they can count on their fingers (and that's saying a lot!) They look up to and adore their hero and favorite uncle: Tails! They want to be just like him when they grow up!

Unfortunately, I don't have anything too concrete for the Blazamy kid YET. I am working on their story as I type this and will post more about them soon! So far all I have is that their cat parts are based off of a highlander cat.

So… I’m avoiding spoilers like the plague, but if Vincent does have a golden ring around his eye in remake like how it LOOKS in the trailers then that’s really interesting. And perhaps symbolizes that he’s playing host to Chaos, but is not fully integrated with him.

Which then explains why Weiss’ eyes don’t have that ring in Remake. Weiss isn’t Omega’s host yet. And as for why Weiss had two rings instead of one - maybe it's that Weiss, being dead at the time, was better able to fuse with the weapon. Or as Omega is a full fledged WEAPON and Chaos isn't, both eyes took on that glow.

Which then makes me think about Nero’s shadow form, where both of his eyes go pure gold. I also think that the "Omega" part of the Omega Weiss boss battle is actually Nero approximating what a properly summoned Chaos would look like.

Which brings me to my final rampant speculation point - i have the personal pet headcanon that Nero ended up succeeding Vincent as Chaos' host and so did not fuse with Weiss. In the final boss battle, Weiss is ejected first and the thing he was riding in (which coincidentally shares Nero's color scheme and looks like a more volved form of Arachnero) actually lingers and its eyes slowly go out. It never falls the same way Weiss does.

So my headcanon has been that while Chaos returned to the Planet, it did so after fully fusing with Nero who had already sacrificed his body and was more or less in full baby weapon mode, and Weiss was left alive and picked up by Genesis.

It's also just wild, rampant speculation - but given the Secret ending of Dirge, I feel like Weiss and Genesis are going to be involved in the divergence from canon. And Weiss is going to be heavily invested in stopping that future from happening because he'd rather his baby brother not be eternally transformed into a mech from hell?

the top 6 games i played in 2023!

1. Heaven's Vault

An archaeologist uncovers a lost history in an ancient space Nebula.

I know that I said I had mixed feelings about this game in my initial review, and I'm sure if I tried replaying it right now, I still would. But honestly, I think about this game so often, I had to include it in this list. Truly such a unique experience. I'm even thinking of reading the book version.

2. Bugsnax

Catch mysterious living snacks and feed them to your friends in this unusual island adventure!

This is a great game, with fun gameplay and an extremely bizarre but interesting story, but where it really shines is its characters. You might not guess on first glance, but the character development in this game is so good and so rewarding. It exceeded all expectations in the best of ways.

3. Sable

Embark on a unique and unforgettable journey and guide Sable through her Gliding; a rite of passage that will take her across vast deserts and mesmerizing landscapes, capped by the remains of spaceships and ancient wonders.

Though it can be glitchy at times, this game is absolutely gorgeous, not just in graphics but in its story and its soundtrack as well. Very, very beautiful game. Not to mention the exploration reminded me of Breath of the Wild: you are free to do what you want, go wherever, and the ending will wait until you're ready for it.

4. Song of Horror

Fear the Presence, a mysterious entity you cannot fight: stay alert, hide, breathe slowly… Explore cursed places where unseen spirits and lost souls linger in a true horror story for the ages.

Unlike other games of the genre, in this you are completely powerless against your enemy—and if your character dies, they are dead for good. These (admittedly sometimes frustrating) mechanics make for a particularly harrowing experience, enhanced by the dark, isolating atmosphere of each chapter. A truly gripping experience.

5. A Plague Tale: Innocence

Follow the grim tale of young Amicia and her little brother Hugo, in a heartrending journey through the darkest hours of history.

The story of this was somewhat unexpected, as I was not anticipating supernatural elements in a game about the black plague, but it was so, so good. It really takes you on a journey, though the highlight of the game is obviously the characters. Both Amicia and Hugo felt not only real, they were also endearing, as were the several friends they made throughout the story. Very much looking forward to playing the sequel at some point.

6. Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun

A new Shogun seizes power over Edo period Japan and enforces nationwide peace. In his battle against conspiracy and rebellion, he recruits five specialists with extraordinary skills for assassination, sabotage and espionage.

I've never played a real-time tactics game before and I'm not at all good at strategizing, so you can probably imagine how frustrating this game was for me; and yet, I absolutely adored it. I found the story and the characters compelling, not to mention this game just makes you feel smart. Completing a level was always so satisfying, and it more than made up for any lingering frustrations in regards to the difficulty of the gameplay.

(Also, fun fact: one of the characters, Takuma, is voiced by the same person that voices the narrator in the Trine games! As a big fan of the Trine series, this delighted me to no end. 😊)

On the edge of the bluffs overlooking the Lake of Rage, a lone figure sits and watches the sunset. The breeze ruffles his bangs, knocking his hat slightly askew.

Gold shivers.

With the sun disappearing behind the mountains, it's starting to get cold. He hasn't regenerated his sleeves in hours. Perhaps years ago, his mother would've scolded him. You'll catch your death out here, ███! Come back inside, it's almost time for dinner.

He supposes, in a way, he has caught his death.

Behind him, the bushes rustle. His entire body shifts around towards the source of the noise, spine clicking as he moves.

Sable faceplants out of the bushes, panting heavily. She gets herself up, stumbling in his direction. A look of concern crosses Gold's face. "Sable-? Are... are you okay?"

Sable is fine, she thinks! Just... winded. And so are her Unown, if their dizzy movements are of any indication. Sable has never run so fast in her life! She was worried if she slowed down, she would lose her trainer!

Gold doesn't answer verbally. He just nods at her, his expression troubled. Nevertheless, Sable waddles over to his side, plopping herself down on the floor next to him. For a moment, Gold turns away from her out of guilt. He's not over what happened earlier, but now that he's calmed down, he knows that it wasn't fair to leave her in the lurch. She wasn't even there for his death.

Forever wasn't there either. And Hurry... who knew what Hurry even remembered. He was just a baby. He'd probably forget that Gold's outburst even happened in a few days.

"...They're looking for me, aren't they." Gold lowers his head.

Sable thinks so? She ran ahead of them. The Wigglytuff's ears flops over, and she tugs on them. Bad things happen when you go off by yourself. Sable thought about finding the grumpy red friend again, but she doesn't know how to find him.

"That's fine," Gold replies tersely, "I don't... really want to talk to Silver right now."

Because he didn't tell you what happened?

"None of them did." He sniffs. "I... I'm not a baby. I could've handled it. They didn't have to hide it."

Sable flops against Gold's side gently, a wheezy hmm escaping her tiny body. She sits in thought for a little bit before responding. Cel-Cel said that the scary monster was your friend. Is that true?

"Y...yeah." Gold stares out ahead, his gaze empty. "Lugia was my friend. I thought so, but- Ugh, Sable, I'm an idiot! I- I could've done something-!"

Sable doesn't respond verbally, but she stares up with her big old eyes. "I- I had a bell. A bell that I could call Lugia with. Before what happened, Lugia stopped responding, and I... I thought the bell broke, or that it was asleep, or- I should've known it was in trouble!"

In trouble...? Sable's head tilts. Like... Sable's trouble? With her old trainer?

"Kinda. You weren't there, but... Sable, you should've heard its roaring." Gold musters up enough strength to form a pair of eyelids and squeeze his sockets shut. "I... I think Lugia was in pain. So much pain. And when I tried to talk to it, it--" He coughs up a glob of blood. "It-"

Sable reaches a tiny paw over to pat Gold's side, allowing him to quiet down. Sable thinks... that when somebody is really badly hurt, they want to make other people feel hurt like they do. Like Mr. Hypno. She frowns and looks to the Unown transcribing for her for a brief moment. Sable wonders Lugia was feeling hurt like Mr. Hypno is.

"Y...yeah. Sounds 'bout right." Gold sighs.

Sable can see her trainer is hurt too. Sable affixes her eyes onto Gold again. That's why you made that scary face and very big noise at everyone, yes? Because you felt hurt, and you wanted our friends to know you felt hurt.

Gold doesn't say anything for a moment. Judging by his slightly wobbly lip and firm expression, however, Sable thinks he's taking in what she has to say. Sable doesn't want to see her trainer or any of her friends be hurt. Sable was hurt too, and she didn't like it.

"Y...yeah. You were." Gold looks down at her, white pupils fading into view.

Sable blinks slowly at him. It is okay to feel hurt and mad! But... can you promise Sable that the next time you feel hurt and mad, you come talk to her again?

Gold manages a weak smile. His wounded stumps begin to slowly fold closed as he takes a deep breath. "I promise," he says.

Sable claps her hands together as she watches Gold's sleeves materialize again. Does Sable's trainer want to go back yet?

"Soon, but..." Gold turns back to the sunset. "Can we... stay here for a little longer, so I know what to say to everyone?"

Okay! Sable can do that. She scoots away from Gold and sits next to him in silence, enjoying his company.

Make no mistake, Gold is far from okay. He's still mentally reeling from everything that's come to light, and he's still unsure of how to process things now that he remembers what happened. How he died. He doesn't even know what the next steps are.

But... for now, the sunset is beautiful. For a moment, all is at peace.

Sable the Shadow

He’s based on shadow people, which is a form he can turn into! He becomes a solid black mass and only his grin is visible. I think he’s a kind of demon? I gave him white demon wings originally but changed my mind. Yes, he has no eyes but he does have eyebrows. He likes to set traps that either kill people or keep them in one place so he can kill them personally - but he’s just as likely to turn into his shadow person form and scare the shit out of you for fun. He can fuck with electronics but when he’s in A Mood, he’ll lose control of it.

Personality wise, he’s arrogant, cocky, flirty, and pretty immature despite being an adult [I think]. He’s prone to pouting and sulking but is much, much smarter than you’d think. You will only get to underestimate him once. 

I’m not sure what his backstory is yet.

and yes, he does have dark red hair around his face, and little star markings under his eyes. for some reason. His skin is ‘bleached’ from being out in the sun - the dark circles where his eyes would be are often covered by the goggles when he’s in the sunlight, and are his normal skin color.

In a setting with both Slender and Zalgo, he’s more likely to work with Zalgo.
