So I’ve been watching School Spirits, not done yet, but I just finished episode 7 where we learn what happened to Dawn. And I was struck by a realization of why Dawn had her special spot in the alcove. A raised, dry place without poor electrical connections where she could be plainly seen. Even in her afterlife Dawn was keeping herself safe from what harmed her in her last moments; she wasn’t being kooky, Dawn was trying to cope with the trauma of her death. Absolutely beautiful environmental/behavioral foreshadowing, no notes.

Also on the topic of the new school spirits episode I haven't seen anyone mention this but can we talk about how triggering Rhondas scene with Mr Martin had to be for her?? Like idk if it was intentional or not but a male figure she trust, someone who is acting in a counceling role (I can't remember if he was a guidance councilor or just a teacher before he died) screaming at her and walking towards her intimidstingly. I hate Mr Martin and I think he was involved in maddys death but even if I didn't before I WOULD HATE HIM NOW.

I know there are a lot of theories bouncing around that Maddie is still alive and it feels very weird to say this about a character that I genuinely like, but... I hope not? I mean, don't get me wrong, I totally see where the theories are coming from & it would explain why she's so different from the other ghosts, but I also feel like it would really undermine the emotional core of the show for me.

#school spirits #school spirits spoilers #school spirits theories #like if that were the set up of the show (the audience knows she's alive out there somewhere and she's having to try to solve what #happened to her and save herself) then I wouldn't mind it #but I do not like it as a twist #i prefer the show as a murder mystery with an exploration of grief #as opposed to a 'ticking clock' save the main character plot #just thought i should acknowledge this though because it has certainly crossed my mind #i really really dislike dead characters turning out to be alive as a trope though personally- i've seen it done well a couple of times #but to me it almost always just undermines the stakes and cheapens the emotional journey

I’m watching School Spirits and honestly I love this show so much I need more!!

The scene where Emilio is reading Charley’s letter is so sad but I’m glad both of them were able to get that closure so that Emilio could move on because he definitely has been holding that in even if he’d moved on and found love again and Charley is able forgive himself now and live his death.

I love Wally and Maddie I think that Maddie will open up a lot more eventually and she does tend to smile more when he’s around. I really do ship them and I want them to be a couple. This is actually a ship that could work because unlike other shows I’ve watched both of them are ghosts so that’s easier.

This might be mean but I found it so funny that Xavier thought he was going to die almost all the episode poor kid was sweating thinking he was going to get murdered by Claire lmao

What is Nicole doing I want to know I swear every time I think I know who might’ve killed Maddie I’m immediately shown another suspect. She’s so suspicious one scene and then normal the next I’m so confused!

Charley and Maddie’s friendship is probably one of my favourite things like I love Simon and Maddie but Charley and Maddie are just so sweet and I love when they have scenes together. I just get so obsessed with the platonic relationships in media sometimes because even though I love romance I love seeing family and friendship relationships too.

The current theor(ies) rolling around the most in my head is for School Spirts

In the last episode we learn that Mr. Martian was aware that Janet took over Maddie’s body

We also learn that they both died in a fire that may have been started by a student or may have been started by Mr. Martian

So the show is, and has been for a while, (I knew he knew more than he let on like episode two or three when he said something super suspicious) leading us to believe that Mr. Martian is the, or at least, a bad guy

And while I’m not clamoring to claim his innocence, I do think it’s interesting that he told Janet not to move when she jumped into Maddie’s body

It’s entirely possible that Mr. Martian is the ultimate villain and Janet did what she did because she’s trying to escape him or because she feels cheated being stuck in limbo with her (maybe) murderer (Not fair to Maddie in any way but more sympathetic than my next thought)

It is also possible that the show is leading us to the conclusion that Janet started the fire, woke up angry in the afterlife that she got caught up in her own craziness, and has been trying to find a way out ever since, (maybe even causing some of the other’s deaths in her attempts?)

This would make her the big bad of the show, and Mr. Martian (while not completely innocent) a misguided man trying to prevent her (and unfortunately for Maddie, failing) from succeeding her goal to possess someone else and escape

What do y’all think? Am I overthinking or on to something? Do you think Janet is an opportunist, a runaway victim, or a killer Queen? 🤔

Current theories for who killed Maddie in School Spirits.

1. Xander - We never really investigated him, the teacher became suspect 1 because he was creepy and had a bunch of money he shouldn't have. So looping back to him still feels fair.

2. One of the non-Claire cheerleaders - Claire is too early to be the one who did it, BUT, if we show more of her idiot friends being not an idiot maybe they did it for or to Claire.

3. Mr. Martin - No human murderer explains why Maddie isn't a normal ghost. Why her memory is missing, or why Simon can see her. But if a ghost did it, well, that means the rules change.

Add to that his rules don't really seem to matter, and how the antilife society seems to be wrong about the other ghosts, he's a good suspect.

(Wrong in that the Theater Ghost is aware of her afterlife, she's just dedicated to her own death in an unhealthy way. And Dawn isn't trapped in 1972, she's fully embraced 2023. To such degree it weirds out the ghost clique.)

(...Band Ghosts are still weird though, no getting around that.)

Mr. Martin doesn't know what micro-aggressions are. That sort of gives a cultural time frame to him.

Was thinking that it was a little self-centered of Wally to do this, but then he put in how he's showing up for his family. I can respect that.

Claire, you're acting like you want to get caught. Texting him over and over. Visiting his house. Why not just light a signal fire in front of the police station?

Wally gave Charley a kiss. Glad that they didn't go with the typical alpha male homophobic jock from the 80's stereotype with him.

Wally's mom is here. Hope this doesn't go bad for him.

Claire did something. Something serious. She's not paranoid like that because of buying grades.

It was the other teacher. She's the one that recorded it and sent it to the three.

Maddie is simply saying what Mr. Martin's been saying. The ghosts need to move on from what is holding them trapped to the world.

Before people start going all conspiracy theory, Maddie's body is NOT in the trunk of Nicole's car. Those boxes wouldn't fit in that small trunk with her body, and her body would be seriously rank after a week. People would smell it from a distance in that car.

Guessing that Mr. Martin died in that room.

The scene where Maddie is talking to Wally about "how would you feel if the person who was supposed to protect you didn't" makes no sense to me. Wally went through exactly that. His mom forced him to play football and wouldn't let him rest for the rest of the game causing him to die. He can 100% relate to how Maddie's feeling.
