What the fuck do you MEAN Ron Kamonohashi has the blood of both Sherlock Holmes and William James Moriarty.
HE'S THEIR DESCENDANT?!?
I'm sure they're gonna give us a different explanation but as far as I'm concerned, Ron is their love child and SherLiam is canon now
I need a fic where specifically the Sherlock Holmes and William Moriarty from Moriarty the Patriot are in a modern au and have to deal with raising the little shit that is Ron Kamonohashi. Dare I say detective genius dad and criminal genius dad with their detective/criminal feral child.
Edit:
No but could you IMAGINE the chaos of three eccentric geniuses in one house, we got Ron Kamonohashi in his teenage years probably absolutely hawking down a bag of black sugar syrup at top speed while William is trying to pry it out of his jaw like you do with an unruly cat that's eating something it shouldn't be, Sherlock's in the background watching this unfold like "just be glad he's not doing drugs or something" to which William would probably point out, Sherlock's smoking habit isn't any better
Meanwhile William's side of the family are arguably equally as insane as Sherlock and Liam so they're just a horde of weirdly rich crazy uncles that take Ron out on questionable adventures, Sherlock's side of the family aka John, Mary and Ms. Hudson is relatively normal in comparison but still dote on Ron - Mycroft repeatedly says that he can't believe his little brother is now responsible for taking care of a child, pretends he doesn't give a shit and yet somehow always ends up visiting his nephew.
Sherlock is still a free-lance private detective/consultant for the police force who takes cases whenever they come around, and when Ron asks him why he's usually home he jokes around that he's a kept man/housewife because William was rich when he married him, to which Liam laughs and asks if he even knows how to boil water without burning it -
It can be up to you whether or not William was or is in crime or not, I can imagine in a modern au he could've been the leader of an organized crime group for whatever reason, eventually decided to get out etc. etc.
And then Ron still meets Toto and brings home his cop boyfriend to meet his batshit crazy parents and one of them is a former CRIME LORD LMAO
Toto is able to withstand the sheer level of crazy that is Ron's family, obviously cause it's Toto
John Watson takes a liking to Toto. Gee I wonder why, it couldn't be because he sympathizes with being the detective partner of an eccentric genius could it

can you suggest fics with love confessions/first kiss
Hey Nonny!
It's not much, but I do have enough fics compiled for a new Love Confessions list! Check these out, and also have a look-see at my other lists below! I just recently posted Part two of my First Kiss list, so enjoy that as well!!
As usual, suggestions are welcome, friends!
LOVE CONFESSIONS Pt. 6
Love Confessions / Slow Burn / Dev. Rel. (Fluff Version)
... / Love Confessions, Slow Burn & Dev. Rel. Pt. 2 / ...
Love Confessions Pt. 3
Love Confessions Pt. 4
Love Confessions Pt. 5
Christmas-Time Love Confessions
First Kiss (Updated March 24/23)
First Kiss Pt 2
The Skin Over My Heart by standbygo (E, 8,849 w., 1 Ch. || Post-Hiatus, Fake Relationship, Case Fic, Dog Tags, Military, Homophobia, Gay Bashing, POV First Person Sherlock, Friends to Lovers, First Kiss / Time, Declarations of Love, Undercover, Haircuts, Flashbacks, Touching, Pining Sherlock, Hospitalization, Metaphors, Introspection, Hand Jobs, On the Couch, John’s Past, Angst with Happy Ending) – Sherlock and John are still trying to adjust to Sherlock's return from his hiatus when John's friend Bill Murray brings them a case. Someone is targeting the LGBTQA+ members of Bill's unit. John and Sherlock go undercover at the unit, but when they end up having to flirt to flush out the suspect, Sherlock realizes he's in over his head.
A Comprehensive Taxonomy of Tobacco-Ash by Silvergirl (E, 11,475 w., 2 Ch. || No TRF AU || Cranky Sherlock, Alternating POV’s, Self-Esteem Issues, Jealous John, Pining John, Confessions, First Kiss, Frottage, Bed Sharing, Sensuality, Cuddling, Touching) – A handsome academic approaches Sherlock about publishing his magnum opus on tobacco-ash in a prestigious scientific journal. Sherlock is quite flattered and flustered, and John’s nose is out of joint.In this little AU there is no Fall and no Mary. Instead, there is humor and smut. Truly a disproportionate amount of smut.
Both Sides Now by Silvergirl (M, 14,724 w., 5 Ch. || Post-TEH / Reunion Fix-It, Bed Sharing, First Kiss / Time, Undercover John, Couple for a Case, Assassin Mary, Big Brother Mycroft, Norfolk Coast, Angry John, First Kiss, Worried Sherlock, Pining Sherlock, Hand Holding, Bed Sharing, Alternating POV, Infidelity, Meddling Mycroft, Emotional Love Making, Matchmaker Mycroft) – Sherlock, undercover on the Norfolk coast, texts that he needs help; John is still seething after Sherlock’s gambit in the train car, and he refuses. When Sherlock goes missing, Mycroft sends John in to pose as Sherlock’s bit on the side.
The Slow Dance and Death of a Carbon Copy by batslikepastel (T, 15,576 w., 8 Ch. || Angst with Happy Ending, Mutual Pining, Mental Health Issues, Mary is Not Nice, Idiots in Love, Eventual Fluff, Developing Relationship, Alcoholism, Love Confessions, BAMF John, First Kiss) – He hasn’t talked to Sherlock outside the bedroom since that first night. Today, though, when Sherlock painstakingly makes John’s favourite breakfast- eggs Benedict- he smiles delightedly and kisses his cheek. “Thanks, Mary.” The first sign of delusion.
Swallow the Night by ArwaMachine (E, 87,873 w., 15 Ch. || TSo3/Stag Night Fix It, TAB/S4 Divergence, Toplock, Mutual Pining, PWP, Drunk / Public Sex, Anal Fingering/Sex, Alcohol-Induced Amnesia, Everyone Knows Except Them, Emotional Love Confession, Demisexual Sherlock, Internalized Homophobia [John], Parentlock with Rosie, First Kiss, Drug Relapse, Infidelity, Texting, Masturbation, Oblivious John, Emotional Love Making, Angst with Happy Ending, Dreams and Nightmares) – “Do you know how long,” John panted, his cheek scraping against the wall, looking back at Sherlock through half-closed eyes, “I’ve wanted this?” Sherlock pressed himself against John’s back, biting at John’s ear. “Not nearly as long as I have,” he whispered.
Bakers with Benefits by Raina_at (E, 88,130 w., 14 Ch. || Great British Bake Off AU || Strangers to Lovers, Switchlock, Friends with Benefits, Mentions of Alcoholism / Past Drug Use, Banter, Flirting, Fluff, Light Angst, Semi-Public Sex, Past Sherlock/Victor, Mutual Pining, POV Sherlock, Obsessive Sherlock, John’s Bum) – Sherlock Holmes has a successful YouTube baking channel, but what he really wants is his own bakery. When an old friend sends him a call for the very first Great British Bake Off, he seizes the opportunity to finally win a sponsor for his bakery. Here's the plan: Win Bake Off, get the bakery, don't fall in love with the handsome Army doctor at the neighbouring station. Easy.
Drawn to Stars by Silvergirl (E, 109,272 w., 60 Ch. || S4 Compliant to TLD / TFP Doesn’t Exist, Sherlock’s Italian Adventure, Sherlock/OC and Johnlock, Jealous John, Mutual Pining, Misunderstandings, First Kiss/Time, Idiots in Love, 3 Part Story, Slow Burn, Inexperienced Sherlock, Bottom Sherlock, Introspection, Multiple Alternating First and Third Person POV, Separation and Reconciliation, Emotional Love Making, Love Confessions via Letters, Angst with Happy Ending) – After the Culverton Smith case Sherlock is clean, working, and looking for a romantic partner—since John has told him that’s what he needs. Shame John didn’t mention he was interested in that role himself, before Sherlock went off to Rome with a gorgeous Italian copper to try to fall in love and become a complete human being.  Part 1 of the Drawn to Stars series

Fanfics I really liked in February 2023
Tumblr media
So. Since I keep a list of what I´ve read anyway (there´s always a list), I will rec all the fics I´ve wholly enjoyed on a monthly basis. Old and new, canon or AU, big or small authors, long or short but nearly always Johnlock(-ish).
“The Art of Putting Up Shelves” by Amyreadsandstresses @amyreadsandstresses
https://archiveofourown.org/works/37340701
It’s a Sherlock/OMC. John remains angry after the return and withdraws more and more so Sherlock gets drawn to Adrien who is a really nice guy and good for Sherlock. Hurt/Comfort.
“The Waning of Withdrawal” by LoloLolly
https://archiveofourown.org/works/43413474
What would happen if the hug scene went differently and Sherlock would start to say something?
“In His Care” by BeautifulFiction @the-pen-pot
https://archiveofourown.org/works/24682129
John catches Covid and Sherlock tends to him. This leads to unexpected but very welcome confessions.
“Mistletoe and Misdemeanours” by Robottko
https://archiveofourown.org/works/2700083
Sherlock is in need of a boyfriend he present to his parents at Christmas. So he does the next best thing and kidnaps one John Watson. LOL. Enemies to Lovers and loads of fun in between.
“34 Minutes” by bendingsignpost
https://archiveofourown.org/works/334589
Sherlock needs John for a psychological experiment in eye contact. The result after 34 minutes might be surprising but is very satisfying.
------------------------------------------
Special Feature: The author Chryse
I guess those of you who read a lot of fanfics have definitely come across Chryse who’s a big name in the fandom and (at least imo) one of the best writers out there. Loads of Hurt and Angst but Comfort and happy endings after all.
https://archiveofourown.org/users/Chryse/works
A River without Banks is the time-travel fic of all time-travel fics, brilliant and unsettling. Another Country and The Wench is Dead tell the tale of Sherlock’s confinement in 221b after he shot Magnussen. The Ground Beneath Your Feet deals with Sherlock’s PTSD after the Fall. The Frost Is All Over is a wonderful Victorian-ish teenage lovestory and quest to find Sherlock’s relatives of a truly Dickensian scope. Last Call at the Homesick Club features lonely busker Sherlock on his time away.
You ask why I don’t mention her other fics? Simply because I have not yet read them.

Last Lines Tag
Thanks for the tags @raina-at and @7-percent . I have two WIPs to share, both AUs.
From Five Days my "stranded at an airport" fic:
Most of the people around him don’t seem to be sharing his serenity at the situation. Some people’s eyes are raking over the departures board even though each and every flight is listed as CANCELLED. Others are yelling into cell phones or pacing frantically without any regard for those around them. One woman looks like she’s literally pulling out her hair while trying to console a crying child. John glances down the terminal—there’s lineups of frazzled looking people everywhere, waiting (some not so patiently) to talk to equally frazzled staff. With another sigh, he slowly starts making his way towards the British Airways counter. He should consider himself lucky, really. The lineup for BA is relatively short, especially compared to the giant lines for United or American Airlines snaking around the terminal.
And from Corsi, my hockey story:
Sherlock is busy too and, if the state of his hair is any indication, stressed far more than he should be in pre-season. John has observed more than one vocal disagreement between Sherlock and Forget, and Lestrade has taken to avoiding the assistant GM all together. Meanwhile, the white board in Sherlock’s office is covered in seemingly random numbers and lines connecting symbols that John doesn’t even try to understand despite all the time he spends there.
I only have the two so I'll tag @lololollywrites and @keirgreeneyes . But I'd love to see what others have in the WIP folders too!

Fall Favorite Fic Festival, Entry 5
Remember, winter doesn't officially begin until December 21, she said pedantically.
Tumblr media
I've delayed writing this entry because I was trying to define the reason (or reasons) why I love this fic so damn much. I read this fic at least twice a year, usually sometime in February and then again in the fall. It's a sports fic, and while I am not in general a sports person, I do love me some baseball. But the sport isn't the reason I love this fic, and I think I may have figured it out. Stick with me.
I started the link at Chapter 2, because Chapter 1 is a guide to baseball for the uninitiated. Some of it is out of date now, because MLB in its STUPIDITY has messed around with the rules this year because GOD FORBID people have to wait longer than a minute for anything to fucking happen on a sports field, and of course only HITS matter, but it is still fun to read. You don't need it to appreciate the fic, though.
Whilst I was processing this fic, I spent some time thinking about sports fics in general, and that led me to reread a couple of other favorites. One was A Study in Winning, by Jupiter_Ash. I really like that fic as well, even though I know next to nothing about tennis. I like the drama of the story, I like Sherlock faking his nationality just because, and I enjoy John being a petty little bitch to Moriarty there at the end. I feel like there for a while everyone had read or was reading that fic. Another one I went back to was Of Ice and Men, by SinceWhenDoYouCallMe_John, which is an OT3 set during the Winter Olympics. That one has John in the Paralympics, which gives the relationships an entirely new dimension. There are other good sports fics - throw your favorite in the comments, if you like. I'm mostly limiting my scope in these musings to Sherlock, as I've said before, but I'll read anything if it's good. Links to these two fics are below.
One of the ways in which sports fics have an advantage is that they have a built in structure. There's a match, or a tournament, or a season, and the relationship drama plays out against that backdrop. Writing classes always talk about the "ticking clock" approach to narrative tension, and almost every sport has some type of literal ticking clock. The Bang and the Clatter plays out over a full baseball season, including Spring Training and the postseason. That's basically a year minus the main American holidays, and EarlGreyTea does a really good job of letting the story play out at an appropriate pace. That's very impressive considering that she was posting this as a WIP over the course of an actual season.
(I need to take a minute to talk about my issues with EGT, and by "issues" I mean "soul churning jealousy." EGT is ridiculously prolific. If you go back into the fandom annals and look at the timing of some of her biggest fics, she was posting what became major reference points for the fandom in tandem, writing multiple fics at the same damn time, while, you know, teaching law or moving cross country. She is the best example I know of the importance of writing regularly. Of course, she's incredibly gifted, highly skilled at plotting, characterization, pacing, and just words. She has a fabulous imagination. Her dialogue rings true, and it's fun. But she can turn really good stuff out relatively quickly because she's limber AF. She writes. Anyone who comes to Word Sprints on Sundays or just hangs with me writing knows I'm not fast. I'm lucky to break 100 words in 15 minutes. Part of that is that I edit as I go, but it's also that I don't write as often as I would like to, so it takes me some time to warm up. I would like to be more like EGT, which probably sounds kind of creepy. I hope she doesn't see this. Anyway, she's written many of my top 20, and she actually finishes her stuff. So, yeah. Issues.)
So here is where I ended up: this is a good AU that takes advantage of the time crunch of the sport in which it is set, but that is not why I read it 2+ times per year. I read it because this is one of my favorite John and Sherlock relationships ever. It feels so in character for the way we see them in the show (at least through S2; this was written in 2013). We see them meet, we feel their attraction, we feel Sherlock's very authentic confusion. We feel their fear at being caught out, at first by each other and then by the world. They earn their angst. The way to my heart is good characterization, and this has that. Alongside the battery, the OCs (especially Sherlock and John's families) are complex and have issues of their own. Moriarty doesn't show up until the All Star Workout, which is halfway through the season for those of you who don't know, but it works because by that point, John and Sherlock have things to lose. Lestrade is the best effing choice for a beleaguered, exasperated baseball manager there ever was. Mycroft saves the day AND fucks it up, which I wish we'd seen more of in those days.
Also, John and Sherlock never get too far away from each other, and when they're separated, it's usually for narrative reasons. I like that in a fic, I've come to realize. I like to watch the characters' interplay. It's hard for Sherlock to keep secrets from John when they work together, commute together, and live together, and John is no fool. Their office isn't 221b Baker Street, it's a stadium in Austin, TX, where shit plays out in front of 30k people. John loves baseball. Sherlock loves John. They fight, they fall in love, they eat Chinese food, and they play baseball. And best of all, they are themselves together.
If you read the parts that EGT wrote after the big story, there's a mention of Sherlock pulling together a pick up game in London made of American ex-pats for John's sake, and I'll tell you what. That really pulls this fic together for me. This Sherlock would do that for this John, and we end up a little on the outside looking in, and it's just charming as fuck.
In conclusion, read this even if you don't know baseball, if you want great characterization, a chance to be reminded of how beautiful John and Sherlock were together back in the golden age. Pay attention to the ticking clocks in your favorite fics; intentional or not, there's almost always some time pressure ginning up the conflict. If you're a writer, the best way to get better is to write more. Feels like bullshit, but it's true. And finally, fuck MLB forever for going the completely wrong way on the DH. Pitchers in both leagues should have to/get to hit, and more to the point, DHs should have to fucking do something when their teams are out in the field. I will die on this mound.
(Also, if I'm being honest, Bull Durham is probably my favorite movie, so maybe I'm more of a baseball fan than I'm letting on. I do generally love baseball in popular media. But I still think it's the characterization.)

The Secret Flatmate
3. Impulsive
From this list of gt prompts.
AU: Unknown BAU
Note: Two prompts in one day??? Yep! ^^ this prompt and a few others have given me a bit of an excuse to actually post some things that have been floating around in my WIPs for a good while now. Enjoy some bonus pocketlock!
~~~
John Watson was a creature of habit. That was to the advantage of one Sherlock Holmes, who carefully watched the man from the safety of the walls.
221B Baker Street was an odd place for someone less than four inches tall to hang their hat– or long wool coat in Sherlock’s case– but Sherlock loved it. He’d been a drifter for quite some time, always shifting around London. One thing Sherlock had never been able to do was sit still.
Until he stumbled upon this humble flat in Central London. At first glance it didn’t seem like much; the most interesting thing about Mrs. Hudson the landlady who lived on the ground floor was that she was apparently married to a drug lord, and he wasn’t even in England anymore. Bored, he decided to explore the flat one floor up. From the second he saw it– with its kitschy wallpaper, rubbish carpet and mismatched armchairs– he was enamored. How he ached to be able to live in 221B Baker Street properly, like a human.
And then he remembered he was human. At least he used to be. He’d given up on wishing for his old life back ages ago. Things would never go back to the way they were.
He ended up settling for the next best thing. After a few weeks of absconding with food and supplies from Mrs. Hudson, Sherlock considered himself fully moved into 221B. It was empty, but someone would rent it out eventually, and then he could live off them.
Sure enough, John Watson moved in, and he was at least a little more interesting than the landlady.
Sherlock had a hobby in childhood that became an instinct as an adult. Extraordinarily observant, he could pick apart even the most minute of details in a person-- their clothing, their posture, even their accessories-- and from them glean an understanding about their life. This was all the easier when observing human beings, whose relatively massive statures rendered all those details plain as day to Sherlock.
While peeking in on his first conversation with her, Sherlock observed that the man was ex-military, wounded abroad if his limp and tan were any indication. Just returned from either Afghanistan or Iraq (confirmed later to be the former) and clearly hadn’t found a job yet. There was no way he could afford rent in Central London on Army pension alone, so it stood to reason that he must be getting help. Perhaps a loan, or a bit of aid from a family member. Taking a wild guess on a hunch after a closer look at the human’s mobile phone, Sherlock thought John’s brother might have lent him a little. Judging by the other things Sherlock deduced about the brother’s failed marriage and drinking habit, it wasn’t the easiest thing for John to reach out to him.
John took the flat– Sherlock’s flat– right away, and the smaller man kept a watchful eye on the new human. It took John a while to find a steady job, solidifying a schedule for Sherlock to take advantage of. He fell into his own habits, patterns of going through his flatmate’s things to learn more about him. It didn’t take him more than a week to learn about John’s career as a doctor, his shoulder wound that got him discharged, and the psychosomatic limp and tremor that came out of that.
This was a man lost in his own world, his own thoughts and nightmares, especially in the comfort of his own home. A perfect human for someone trying to avoid detection.
Or so Sherlock thought.
A few months after the doctor moved in, Sherlock was raiding the cupboards for enough to last him the week. John had long since gone to work, so the flat was quiet and peaceful.
Sherlock took full advantage of Dr. Watson’s recent grocery run, snitching a little from each freshly opened box and package. It was almost boring, how easy pickings were that day. He decided to climb down to the counter, make the rounds of the kitchen before heading back to his hidden home.
No sooner had he emerged from the cupboard sliding smoothly down his hook and line, than the smell hit him. Dark curls whipped around as Sherlock followed the scent to the table in the middle of the room where a plate of homemade scones sat. Sherlock’s stomach clenched with longing; it was around lunchtime and, while the bits of cracker and cereal and dried fruit in his bag made for a successful haul, it had been ages since he’d had the chance at a proper scone.
He longed for the days when he could hold one in hand and carry it along his merry way as he ate.
As it was, no one was home and the plate was hardly touched. Sherlock reasoned that it’d be a shame to let them go to waste, landing efficiently on the counter and giving his line a pointed flick to disengage the paper clip he’d twisted into a hook. The second he caught it, he was on the move to dig it into the edge of the counter. From there, it was a short jog along the floor, a sharp toss of his hook, and a quick shimmy up the dark thread.
The smell was even stronger on the table surface. Sherlock usually exhibited a lot of self control when it came to what he ate, whether it be out of necessity due to a shortage of pickings or a voluntary fast to aid his brainwork. But for some reason, this scone was different. Maybe it was the sheer nostalgia of the treat or the rare opportunity for something fresh, but there was absolutely no hesitation in his step as he made a beeline for the plate.
He had to give Mrs. Hudson credit: her scones were heavenly. The pastry crumbled easily enough and melted in his mouth, interspersed with the sweetness of the fruit that had been baked into the dough. For once, his ever-running mind stood still for a moment, drawing him back to childhood.
Shoving his older brother aside to snag two handfuls of scones before school in the morning.
Opening his eyes to regard the crumbs in his hands, Sherlock forced himself to push those memories away. That family was lost to him forever, and he would never get that life back.
Not while he was under four inches tall.
My fic year in review
@calaisreno tagged me, so here goes :-)
All in all this was a very creative year in fandom, and fandom was a much-needed source of joy and fun, even though I was recovering from a car accident, worked an insane amount, had Covid, and had a whole load of other RL issues. I'm so grateful to fandom, and writing, and reading fic, it helps so much to have an outlet like this, an escape hatch from RL when it gets too grim. Don't get me wrong, I've had worse years, but it was plenty stressful, and I'm glad I had fandom.
So here goes:
Total number of completed stories: 6 (though one of them is still posting, I completed it in 2022.)
Total word count: about 90k, plus about 10 k at least in unpublished drafts and snippets I'll never finish.
Fandoms written in: BBC Sherlock
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected? More, much more. I finished 2021 with a nasty case of writers' block, and I finished 6 stories this year. That's amazing, and I'm glad my flow is back.
What’s your own favorite story of the year? Spare Parts because I got to say some stuff about Sherlock and John I always wanted to say, and I did a whole lot of world-building and plotting.
Did you take any writing risks this year? See above, I practially wrote a Sci-Fi novel.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year? There's some stories I want to write, but I wouldn't call them goals. I'm also thinking of participating in FTH, but I'm not sure yet.
Most popular story of the year? Toss-up between Dont' Read the Last Page and All I Want for Christmas (Is Proof), apparetly you guys really like Sherlock and John wearing slutty Christmas outfits and sappy parentlock ;-)
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: My Hotel Transylvania AU Zing and You'll Miss It sank like a stone, but I had a lot of fun writing it ;-)
Spare Parts is super niche, so it didn't have the "mass appeal" that Bakers had while posting, but I think it'll find its audience, and if only Jrow, me and three other people like it, that's still plenty. I might still be crazy for wanting to write a sequel, but you guys, the amount of world-building I did, I barely scratched the surface. So. I'm not sure yet, but there might be a sequel. (or two, I have two really good ideas)
Most fun story to write: All three stories I wote for the Year of the Crackfic challenge were incedibly fun, especially Speak Now. It was pure wish fulfillment. Also, I stand by my theory that Mrs Hudson could take Mary in a fight.
Most unintentionally telling story: The Bakers ficlets for the Austrian traditions, probably.
Biggest disappointment: Spare Parts contains some conversations and some passages I'm insanely proud of, and I'm not getting that much of a reaction to the parts I really love, so... yeah. But hey, all is relative, and I'm insanely grateful to every single person who reads anything I write.
Biggest surprise: Every year, that people read and like my stuff. Thank you so much, every single one of you.
Also, the grumpy, hurt, bitter 24th century John Watson who kidnapped the rest of my writing year sometime in spring was a surprise as well ;-) This story wasn't even on the list of WIPS and then I was 5k in... (thanks, fake fic title challenge, and thanks, @whatnext2020 for the idea).
Tagging everyone who wants to join in (I'd especially love to hear from @jrow , whose beta skills elevate everything she touches, thank you so much!!! She writes delightful fic, and she saves you all from my appaling inability to write an em-dash. She's a complete and total superstar!)
Hi do you have a fic wherein Sherlock and John lived in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, or 1990s? Thank you very much 💓
Reply: I'm also including the 1950's to give you some Greaserlock.
1950s
Cuss and Hold On by lifespossible (27K, E, Johnlock) Now that Godfrey Staunton's gone missing, Sherlock Holmes, the gorgeous, cigarette-smoking, fast-driving greaser might be the only person that can find him, if the police are as inept as Sherlock insists they are. And if John tags along by accident, it's simply to make sure everything goes smoothly.
How the mouth changes its shape by Breathedout (132K, E, genderswapped Johnlock, Viclock, John/OFC) 1955. Under the placid veneer of suburban playparks and middle-class conformity churns a hidden London: femmes and butches dancing close in basement bars; clandestine love between women. To Sherlock Holmes, struggling private detective and mistress of disguise, it’s a realm she renounced years before. To Johnnie Watson, daredevil ambulance driver turned auto mechanic, it’s become a little too familiar. But when someone is murdered in the washroom of the city’s most notorious lesbian club, the investigation will lead both women to reconsider their assumptions about themselves, each other, and the world in which they live.
Still of the Night by michi_thekiller (30K, E, Johnlock) 1.) Curfew must be obeyed. 2.) Streets must be clear by sundown. 3.) If you find yourself out after curfew, seek shelter at the home of a friend, relative, or neighbor whom you know and trust. 4.) Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should any unknown persons be allowed into the home after curfew. It's a vampire greaserlock kids!
Without A Doubt by prettysailorsoldier (27K, T, Johnlock) When Sherlock Holmes meets John Watson as a child in 1949, he has no idea what he's in for. Growing up in the age of drive-in movies, leather jackets, and diners and soda shops on every corner sounds pretty picturesque, but the 1950s present plenty of challenges as well, and falling in love with your best friend? Well, that's never easy.
Okay was wheatley really /that/ big (…no pun intended) on tumblr back in the day or are so many gt people former wheatley fans because we all flocked to bonka like an old lady feeding pigeons? 😂 I mean, I was there, but idr the relative size tbh. Either way it was pretty darn big by 2022 Tumblr’s standards, huh? 🤔 This theory just based on how many BNFs I can remember.
beloved Bonka was deffo the Biggest Name in the Big Wheatley fandom, but BELIEVE ME there were so many people who drew giant Wheatley. it was like, the g/t fandom’s Once-ler. there were askblogs, webcomics, people had their diff au versions.
it wasn’t strictly people into g/t, either. by that i mean people who specifically identify as a tiny or giant, or who intensely love the concept, the kind of g/t fan we have today y’know? a lot of the content was made by people who just casually liked the concept, like one would write a coffee shop au or so. it was super common back then, anyone remember pocket!john of the sherlock fandom, and how that lead to a bunch of pocket! au’s across various fandoms? it used to be a HUGE trope, before it kind of just fizzled out among general content creators.
and deffo agreed, the amount of people into giant Wheatley back in the day puts 2022 gt tumblr to shame. art regularly getting thousands of notes, askblogs and webcomics thriving. I feel like I never see ANY g/t post get beyond 300 or so notes these days, and it’s just. man I miss when there were more of us
Gay Sherlock Holmes Pastiches Review- A Murmuring of Bees
Update: I bought the paperback because I didn't find the kindle version of it. But later I realize you can buy E-book and mobi ver. of this book from the publisher's website. And they have even more that I didn't find before!
------------------------------
I gave this book 4 stars on Amazon and Goodreads. But here I have to be honest, for me, it is 3.5 starts at best, leaning towards 3, and if a friend asks me if they should buy it I probably won't recommend it unless they have quite a bit extra money to spend on random stuff. But like I said in the previous book reviews, I will give these LGBT SH books as high a score as I could on Goodreads and Amazon because there are people giving them 1 star just because they are LGBT.
This book is a collection of short stories. Some are relatively longer, and some are only 1 page long. They are of different ratings as well. Some barely got a kiss, but others contain extended sex scenes. There is also one poem, which I basically skipped. I was much perplexed when I first picked up this book. I could not decide which SH universe it is based on. It first looked like BBC Sherlock, but some of them apparently are not, but more like general SH modern AU. And later on, I flipped over and found ACD canon ones. A few are different AUs such as WW2 or...some randomly timed ones.
I personally don't enjoy BBC Sherlock show itself, but I will never reject well-written fanfics. There is one seemingly BBC-based story in this book that is super cute and I would love to give it a 5-star. Another one that I like the most is based on canon, and that one touched me so deeply that I couldn't get my mind out of it for an entire day. I would say I bump up 1 star just for that story alone. Or I should say the experience with that one story makes the book worth it.
There are a few other ones that are cute and sweet, emotionally pleasing, or otherwise interesting to read. Maybe 3-5 of them impressed me pretty well.
That being said, the rest ~20 of them, meaning the majority of the stories, are just...meh. I forgot most of them already. And there is one particularly...well I don't want to kink shame anyone but I simply can't get the hair-pulling kink and it felt too long and not particularly well written either.
But I am very choosy in terms of fiction reading. I think other than a few ones (maybe ~5 of them? I can't remember, maybe fewer than that) that are very short and clearly have nothing to say, most of them are at least enjoyable at the moment, better than the average ones you could find on AO3, so I am sure more readers would find them a nice read.
The aftermath of a rather ordinary case becomes increasingly extraordinary.
And John isn't sure which fork to use.
"Mr. Fell,” said Sherlock, in a tone suggesting doubt that that was the man’s real name. “Noticing things is my métier. Such as small hand gestures. When one has eliminated the impossible – such as a succession of extraordinary and highly favourable coincidences in the space of a single evening – whatever remains, however improbable, must be the explanation.”
On military leave, John Watson discovers that his sister has signed him up for a blind date book event. The set-up is simple: one person brings a book and ends up on a blind date with whoever chooses their contribution.
To say that John is reluctant to attend is an understatement. Luckily, sparks fly between him and a stunning new author when he makes an unorthodox selection from the book choices.
