god I can't believe they're releasing new Amatelast merch. (to be clear there's been like .... one previous round of new-art Amatelast merch in my memory? there was one time you could get little keychains of any band which included Amatelast, unusually enough, but it was old art assets iirc). not only that but it's merch of the beach night that I haven't shut up about since that chapter came out. aughhh what do I get it's only up for preorder for five days

look at them... for one brief moment, they were so happy... and now after much work and long nights alone they're happy again in a different way (not pictured: defendu, god knows how they're doing. good luck bbs)

You don’t give him the chance to get jealous.

How could he? When you don’t even realize how utterly dismissive of other possible “suitors” you are. Not giving anyone a second glance, eyes straying over to where he is if you two happen to be in the same room, reserving that sweet tone of your voice for when you call his name, shamelessly flashing that pretty ring he gave you whenever someone gets too close for comfort.

It’s not as if he wants to be jealous, far from it. It’s just baffling to think that, in all of your years together, he can’t remember any time he felt threatened by another. To make him burn with anger and freeze in fear over losing you is but a mere fantasy for those who admire you from afar, knowing that you will never like them back.

It hits him one day when you're all hanging out with your shared circle of friends and acquaintances, laughing at their antics and engaging in friendly banter with those closest to you. His friends, in particular, are well aware of his jealous streak, inquiring about the green-eyed beast they had seen in his younger years with past lovers. If the confused look on your face isn't enough indication, his own hesitation before answering gives them all the information they need. They're skeptical, of course. Him? Never getting jealous? What a joke.

"I've never seen him jealous," your earnest answer leaves them gobsmacked, now staring at him as if he's sprouted four more limbs. "he's not really the jealous type." That's a lie and he knows it, so why can't he think of any event that proves it? He frowns, glancing back at you as if you'd know any better than him. But the loving glint in your eyes when he meets your gaze it's like a sucker punch to the gut, heart throbbing at the sheer adoration making you glow.

Of course, he realizes. It's not that he's suddenly become the type of man who can see his love being flirted with without batting an eye or that he gives people the benefit of the doubt. It's that you have single-handedly helped him overcome his insecurities, healing his emotional wounds with your unbridled love and unwavering loyalty. Similarly, his commitment to you is just as strong, as the trust you've built the longer your relationship progressed further deepened your bond.

He's feeling breathless, in awe of you and hopelessly lovestruck, staring at you as if you're the only person in the room. Your shared friends jokingly gag at the sight, teasing remarks and cat-calls filling the room when he boldly leans in to kiss you, melting into you when your lips move against his own with practiced ease.

It's perfect, he can only sigh in bliss, once again realizing that he'd never find someone who loved him like you did. Someone he loved just as deeply, wholly, and desperately.

Another thing I just thought--

Riku asked if this (the story of Shuu getting the diagnosis + deciding to leave Amatelast) was something he'd have to prepare his heart for, and Shuuzo said it might be. When at first I saw that I thought, oh, he's going to tell them he's dying, but the diagnosis of course means that being in Trichro is the opposite of killing him. (Though of course the fact that he's still taking pills years later raises a number of questions, but the story we've heard so far is at least about how he can play Trichronika music forever and only get stronger.) So what does he have to prepare his heart for? As far as he knows Shuuzo's doing great now!

But I'm not giving Riku enough credit there, am I? Riku will of course be happy to be part of making Shuuzo-kun stronger, though I imagine he'll have the same question I did last pararaph. Kai will hear that and go I knew it, everything's great now! But Riku will notice the implication that everything he and Kai have done since graduating Judas Jr., everything he's worked so hard for and overcome his initial misgivings re: Shuuzo for and come to love him for? All of that was really about the band Shuuzo loved first and not about them at all. And whatever they do, they aren't making the music that's true to Shuuzo's soul -- and they can't unless they want to lose him forever.

(This isn't exactly true, of course - Shuuzo said he picked them because he was impressed by them, and that's something we never hear him say about anyone else so I believe him. But it is true that Shuuzo is here doing this in the first place because of Amatelast, because he wants to keep that promise-that-wasn't-actually-a-promise, and I'm not sure he's gotten any better at considering his bandmates' feelings even though he's at least realized he cares about them a lot faster than he did last time.)

I hope Riku says something instead of bottling it up and going I was right the first time, it really is Rom or Titan that he cares about and not us, he's going to leave us behind. (And I suppose he now has a much clearer picture of how being left behind by Shuuzo looks.) Because I don't know if Shuuzo will realize that's what Riku will take from it. I hope so! He's definitely more willing to say things to people to cheer them up - that's the job now, after all, but he will do it for free too - but he did got a really long time without realizing how Riku felt about all the secrets and Shuuzo's craving for rivalry and all that, even if he does seem to genuinely be striving to fix it now.

Of course, once Riku gets past his concerns for the future of Trichronika, he's also the one most likely to go talk to Rom (and Adam and Eve if he can find them) about it so that they can maybe stop hurting too. Possibly even if Shuuzo explicitly tells him not to. And that is a delightful possibility.

(I can't even imagine how they'll wrap this up in one chapter that's presumably mostly about the Last Gig. I'm not ready to stop noooo tell me where he's BEEN, confirm to me that he was staying away until Rom found a new band, give me a sense of where Adam and Eve are, anything, please,)

What do you think are Kenjaku's favourite manga? We know a bit about what Yuuji've read and probably likes. Though what do you think are Yuuji's favs?

I'm wondering whether they could talk about it or whether it'd be just Kenjaku trying to interest Yuuji in their favs and Yuuji being disinterested because their tastes don't match at all XD

I think their tastes overlap pretty often actually. Like for example, Yu-Gi-Oh! (the original manga). For most of the story it's basically just kids torturing each other Saw-style. It's very bloody and gruesome with some friendship lessons sprinkled over it. So basically like the Culling Games, just with stricter rules and more torture devices. Seems right up Kenjaku's alley, especially because while there's a lot of death, there is for most cases a broader lesson to it and I think they would just find the ways the kids solve the death games very interesting. Plus, you have ancient souls stored in objects possessing other people. Very relatable.

I can see Yuuji liking the manga for very similar reasons. He likes horror, so that part would appeal to him and he would like the broader message of overcoming loneliness, abuse and other trauma together with the friends you manage to make. It's a lot about finding closure and accepting death, quite similar to what he is dealing with. Also, being possessed by a spirit that kills people without your knowledge or influence? Yuuji and Yuugi could start a therapy group together (Yuugi's approach of befriending said spirit won't help Yuuji tho...). actually now I wonder if Yuugi was an inspiration for Yuuji even if their personalities are different

So I think Kenjaku and Yuuji would end up liking a lot of the same manga's but for slightly different reasons.

For Kenjaku, I think they would like manga with a diverse power system or elaborate powers in general, like Hunter x Hunter or Jojo's. Then probably also some of Ito Junji's stories just because they find the ways in which people can drive themselves insane fascinating. Same for Oshimi Shuuzo's stuff (they read Blood on the Tracks for inspiration on how to deal with their children).

Given their extensive knowledge on stand-up comedy, suggesting they watch basically anything that gets aired, I could also see Kenjaku just buying an issue of WSJ and reading everything from front to back only to give the nearest person around a full critique of the contents. Yuuji is similar to that I think. We know he watches basically everything on TV, no matter how dull he thinks it is and I think he could be the same with manga. He'll read everything in a magazine simply because he has nothing better to do, it passes time and keeps him from thinking about less great stuff happening in his personal life (coping mechanism just like his TV habits). The manga he reads in Ozawa's flashback looks like WSJ or maybe an equally packed manga magazine.

Because of that I'm also having a hard time pinning down favourites for him. He's such an omnivore. Did we ever get any specifics from Gege on what he reads? If we go by his movie taste it must be something that isn't just senseless violence and he seems easily moved by drama, like in Lord of the Rings. Don't know how he feels about sci-fi, but maybe some Gundam series (I'd say UC universe, but that's just because I don't know the others)? Evangelion seems a bit too existential, he seems more like a casual reader who doesn't want to be reminded too much of any lurking depression. I think he'd definitely like Yu Yu Hakusho and Fullmetal Alchemist. It has a good mix of action, drama, fantasy and darker elements.
